2-6 Blessings and Gifts to Banda
Sri Guru ji had Baba Banda Singh ji Bahadhur sit close to him. He took his sword off and was about to give it to Baba Banda Singh ji. He was going to give him the sword with powers and radiance, to make him the Sardar. As he was about to give Baba Banda Singh the sword, Bhai Daya Singh ji and Bhai Dharam Singh ji along with all the Khalsa, sitting with Guru ji, saw this and got up with their hands folded. They said: “Sri Guru ji, you have become overly compassionate. You have melted with compassion. If you are going to give him your own sword, then what will your Panth do? The Panth has been with you from the beginning. The Khalsa endured all of the pains and troubles along with you. Thousands have died. The work of the Singhs would go for nothing. You must answer to this. Were we only to do Seva? We request you. There is nothing else we can do. If all our efforts are fruitless, if you don’t see you Sikhs as right; you will have to answer to them as they will all see this. What will the Khalsa do?” After saying this, everyone’s eyes began to shed tears. They began to cry and were worried (as they had fallen under the impression that Guru ji was about to give the Gurta Ghaddi and planning to leave his body). Bhai Daya Singh ji continued: “if you want to give him something, then give him your arrows. The Kharag should remain with the Khalsa.” Guru ji saw this and became compassionate. He said: “what doubt has sprung up in your hearts? Understand this in your heart: he is my worker that will fulfill my tasks but the Khalsa is my son who will enjoy all of the joys. He will destroy the enemy like thorns so when my Singhs move about, they are in joy. The kingdom of the Desh will be yours. Nobody can stop this. Destroy your worries. The kingdom and the radiance will not go away from you. Be happy as it will be as you wish. Banda will get my arrows.” Guru ji put his sword back on and made the Singhs sit closer with respect. He took out 5 arrows from his quiver and gave them to Baba Banda Singh ji Bahadhur. Guru ji said to Banda Singh ji: “remain chaste and then your radiance will remain bright. It will grow as you remain chaste (not married). Don’t turn your back on Brahmacharj. Because of Brahmacharj, the enemy won’t be able to face you. Brahmacharj will make the radiance grow. Brahmacharj will give you everything. By staying the Banda, if you marry a woman then the power of these arrows will diminish. Cross the Jamuna and grow. Kill the sinners and cause chaos. Cross Booreeya and find a high place. Live there. I will send Hukamnamas to all of the Singhs. The leader Singhs will come and meet you. Go and loot the whole Desh. If someone comes to fight you, kill them. In your first conquest, go to Sidhaura and kill the sinners (who killed Peer Bhuddu Shah). Then kill the villages of the Turks. Loot and beat the sinners. Kill the sinners. When your Dal grows, attack Sirhind. Sooba Wajeed Khan is there, who killed the Sahibzadas. Fight him and kill him. Cut his head with your own hands. After killing him, destroy and ruin the whole city of Sirhind. The Sadhoo, Moola (Bhai Mool Chand ji), he lives in Sunaam so don’t loot that city. Cause chaos everywhere else. Loot and beat them. After that, go to the Pahari areas and kill all of the Rajas and Ranas. Kill all of the Meeyas. Find all of the enemies of the Guru’s home in the Pahari area and send them to the home of the Jumms. Travel the area and find the sinners. Take revenge so the whole Desh knows. Cause chaos everywhere. Peer Buddhu Shah ji and his many Dervishes came to meet me in a great way. He lived in Sidhaura and came to meet me in Paonta. He brought many of his followers to fight along my side. They killed the big enemies and received victory. The Hakam of the area told on them to the Badshah and caused trouble for them. Nauranga then had Peer Buddhu Shah ji and all of his followers killed. There was one boy left who went somewhere else. For this reason, the people of Sidhaura are corrupt. Destroy the whole city first then take your Dal forwards.” When Baba Banda Singh ji heard the instructions of Guru ji, he folded his hands and asked: “what will I do all alone, fighting Lakhs? How will I take revenge upon the enemies by which my honour will remain in the world? Prabhoo, your task is good but tell me how I can do this task so your name as the Gareeb Nivaaj will be known?” Satguru ji said: “you will have a great number of armies. You will have Lakhs of thousands of Akaali Shaheeds. The arrows I have given you will be able to direct the Army of the Shaheed Akaalis. You will have a great army as well. If you don’t believe me then close your eyes. See them in your mind and destroy your worries.” Baba Banda Singh ji closed his eyes after hearing Guru ji. He saw in his mind, Lakhs of warriors standing in the sky. He saw warriors with huge Dumaalas wearing blue. They were holding spears, swords and Chakras. They were ready for war. He couldn’t count how many Shaheeds there were. Seeing the huge army of Shaheeds, Baba Banda Singh ji became patient and courageous. The Shaheeds were holding rifles, bows and many other weapons. They were ready to kill the enemy. He saw the greatness of the Prabhoo and grabbed Guru ji’s feet. He bowed and said: “if I start my own ideology, the Panth will spoil with me. How should I be with them? Tell me. How will I remain on good terms with the Khalsa?” Guru ji said: “my Panth will not be on bad terms with you. If the Khalsa is on good terms with you then I will give you all of the happiness you wish for. Till you are not egotistical, there will be no other like you in this world. If you do not keep your Langote (chastity), the Singhs will turn on you. It will be like putting gold to fire and melting it. That will happen to you; If you receive greatness and become proud of it. Two wise Sahibzadas of the Gurus, one Trehan and one Bhalla, will be with you. They will protect you and stay with you. They will save you from everything in every way. They will stop you if vices enter your heart. They will save you from the enemy on the battlefield. Become alert and gather your patience. Be courageous and take the revenge. Take my 5 arrows and keep them with respect. Baba Binod Singh ji (the first Jathedaar of Shiromani Panth Akaali Buddha Dal) is great. His son, Baba Kahn Singh ji is very strong. Baba Baaj Singh ji is the third that will be with you. They took Amrit from my hands. Their hearts are pure. They will fight along your side and assist you in great ways.” Baba Banda Singh ji heard this and was in bliss. He folded his hands and bowed to Guru ji’s lotus feet. He said: “if you are with me then I can destroy the enemy. I will destroy the radiance of the Turks in all four directions.”
Guru ji blessed Baba Banda Singh ji at the place now known as Gurdwara Sri Banda Ghatt. He then mounted his horse and came to his Dhera at Abichal Nagar. He said to the Sahibzadas of the elder Gurus: “go and cross the Jumana towards the battlefield.” Five Singhs got ready. They packed their clothes and weapons. They mounted their horses and set off on their way. They bowed to Guru ji’s lotus feet as they left. They did Simran of Guru ji on the way. They left to take revenge by killing the Turk enemies. They went for the task of Sri Satguru ji. They went to kill Wajeed Khan and the other sinners. They were going to loot Sirhind and kill the people. They crossed many Desh, villages and cites. They crossed the whole way and came to the Jamuna in a few days. They set up their Dhera across the Yamuna. They were happy to cross the Yamuna.
2-7 Banda Bahadhur Plants his Feet
Baba Banda Singh ji Bahadhur was the general of the Khalsa. He was given a lot of radiance by Guru Sahib. He had powers, so he used his powers to reach his destination before the Singhs. He arrived and saw a nice place which was about 5 Kos away from Kapaal Mochan. There was a village there named Teha which was higher in elevation and had a high Theh. He came there. He sat there to wait for the Singhs. He wanted to see what the command of the Guru was going to be. In that time, Baba Binod Singh ji arrived with 5 Singhs. They saw a high place near the Jamuna, looking for Baba Banda Singh ji. They came to the Theh of the Teha village. They saw Baba Banda Singh ji sitting there and were happy. They exchanged the Fateh of the Guru with each other and sat down. They read out the Hukamnama of Guru ji. They sat there for a long time and then the Singhs spoke: “we travelled the path but you were already here when we came. It’s your duty to provide food for us. We need to feed our hunger.” Baba Banda Singh ji said: “I haven’t kept any food here. I came here first but I was alone. I don’t have pots, clothes or food. The reason why Satguru ji sent us here, make an effort and eat what you can.” They spoke to each other in this way. As they spoke, some women of the farmers were carrying food for their husbands, working in the fields. They took food for their men. Baba Banda Singh ji said: “listen Sikh brothers, the Guru has sent food. Take it from them. The first Shagun (omen) is the great food that is ready to eat. We will loot other things later.” The hungry Singhs heard this and got up. They took the Rotis from the women. They were sitting near water and so they ate the rotis with water. They all satiated their hunger. The women began to shout. They went to their husbands yelling: “there are robbers sitting in the way! They took our food from us!” They yelled out loud: “we lost the food! They didn’t listen to us. They were afraid of anyone.” There were about 10 farmers in the village. There were only a few settlers there. They took their laatis and came with anger. They quickly came to fight and kill. They ran from afar. The Sikhs became alert. They came close and began to fight. They came from all around. Other people came. They fought with sticks. The Singhs pulled out their swords and killed the people. They didn’t let anyone run away. They came up to the people to kill them. The Singhs went into the village and looted the homes. As the looting began, other people came as well to loot who were robbers and looters. They came to loot. They spent the day in the village. They sat at night and discussed: “we can’t sit in peace now. In the morning, we will loot other villages of the Turks. Let’s loot the smaller villages first. Whoever stands, cut them. Take all their wealth. Wherever other people wish to loot, call them to join us.” Men were sent to many villages as a call for looting. They gathered many people overnight. Baba Banda Singh ji gave them hope: “loot and kill without fear. If we meet enemies, we will be protected. One will kill many in the field.”
They decided on their plans. They were alert all night and didn’t sleep. At Amritvela, they all bathed and grabbed their weapons. They went to the small villages while everyone was sleeping without worry. They all attacked all of a sudden. The ones that ran away with fear were saved. Whoever stayed was killed. Money and wealth were looted to grow the treasury. The ones who were ready to fight, they looted the 3 villages close by. They looted a lot of the wealth of the rich Turk Shahukaars. Hearing the noise and the calls for looting, the robbers in and around the area came and joined the army of the Singhs. There were 300 by evening. They had enough for a lot of food. They were all happy to fight and loot. They all shouted: “loot and take the Desh away from the Turks. Kill them!” They looted weapons and a lot of wealth. They took small and big horses. They caused chaos for about 3 days. The whole Desh was in chaos. The people of the villages became alert. They were scared and held weapons.
There was a village close by called Mustabad. 2,000 warriors were there. The ones who were looted or had their people killed, they went to Mustabad and called to them: “you are our owners, sitting here in peace. Our villages have been looted and ruined.” The warriors asked: “who has come that has ruined many homes without fear?” The people said: “we can’t tell. Many are gathering by the day.” The Turk Hakam of the area got ready. He saddled his horse, quickly. He took his 2,000 mounted soldiers. They took two canons with them.
Where the Singhs had their Dhera set, the Turk army came there. The Turks were a little scared. When they attacked the Singhs, they fired their canons from afar and had their Nagaras played. The looters got scared and said: “who will fight with them? They are many in numbers. It is like salt in flour. Who will fight with them with bravery?” They got ready to run away. Baba Banda Singh ji saw them and said to them: “don’t be scared. Get ready to fight. I will save all of your Pranas. When I give the signal, charge hard. Go and loot the army. Take their weapons and horses. Nothing else for you to do. I will tie all their metal. You will easily be able to kill and loot them. If you don’t trust me, then watch me first. You can charge and win then.” After saying this, Baba Banda Singh ji went ahead of everyone. The looters watched from a distance. Baba Banda Singh ji took one of the arrows of the Guru and drew a line on the ground with it. No arrow or bullet of the Turks could cross the line he drew. He then stood there. He looked at the enemy with anger. His eyes were red as he stared them down. There was nothing the enemy could do. The enemy fired the canons and the rifles but nothing passed the line that was drawn. The enemy could not reach as they had lost their strength. Everyone on Baba Banda Singh ji’s side stood with ease. Nobody was hit with anything. The enemy came close, slowly. Everyone saw the bravery of Baba Banda Singh ji. They were happy and let their fear go. They became alert and grabbed their weapons. They grabbed their Tomars and arrows. Some took swords and shields. They went ahead and began to fight. Baba Banda ji was at the front, giving inspiration to all to fight. As the people came close and began to fight, their courage grew and they fought with the soldiers. When many rifles were fired, many Turks were hit, falling on to the battlefield. The Singhs and the looters were saved. They did not get a single wound. Many enemies died. They couldn’t be saved. Many horses ran around without riders. The soldiers of Baba Banda Singh ji ran and mounted the horses, taking them into their possession.
2-8 Banda Singh’s Victory/ The Dal Grows/ Attaching Sidhaura
The warriors charged at each other and fought. Baba Banda Singh ji was happy to see this. His men took the horses from the Turks and mounted them. They became motivated to fight further. Baba Banda Singh ji yelled in anger: “go and charge with force! Take their weapons, horses and canons on the battlefield.” He took the arrow of Guru ji and mounted it on his bow. He pulled it and said: “kill the Turks! Don’t let them go! Take their wealth away from them! Take everything from them!” As soon as he pulled the arrow, the army of the Shaheeds came from the sky. They waged a fierce battle. The weapons were striking. The enemy was killed. The Turks showed their back and ran away. They left their canons. Baba Banda Singh ji yelled: “take their weapons, canons and horses! They won’t be able to stay now. They are running away.” The people of the village watched the drama. Hundreds stood by to watch. They saw the Turks run away in great numbers. They saw the cowards run. They couldn’t fire bullets or arrows. The looters looted the Turks’ horses. They didn’t leave any weapons, horses or clothes laying on the field. The bodies piled up. The arrows and swords struck. Many were cut and fell to the ground. Everyone from all around were killed. Other people who were sick of the tyranny of the Turks came to join Baba Banda Singh ji’s Dal and attacked the Turks. The ground was red with blood. Many were cut and suffering. The Turks couldn’t take care of them. Many men died. The ones who ran away, survived. Baba Banda Singh ji took the arrow off of his bow and put it back in his quiver. He stood in his place. The army of the Turks was looted to the fullest. Thousands of weapons were looted. Many big horses were taken. Everyone was happy with the loot. Many more people joined the army on salaries. Some only looted. Some came for a job. Everyone with weapons came. They met Baba Banda Singh ji and made the army grow. Mustabad was attacked and destroyed. They looked for the bad Turks and looted them. They killed them. They took a lot of money and wealth. The looters were happy to loot this. Many were happy that Mustabad fell. Many looters became rich. They looted many villages. 200 men would go and attack to loot. They looted and beat up the people. They would come back to the army. The whole country heard of this chaos. Many men and women ran away from the Desh. The Dal of Baba Banda Singh ji grew. Many looters joined to loot the Turks. The army grew to many thousands. There was chaos everywhere.
Baba Banda Singh ji thought of Guru ji’s command to attack Sidhaura. It was close by. The people of Sidhaura were corrupt. Baba ji wanted to attack the city. He gave the command to mobilize: “the enemies of the Guru live there. They are corrupt. The Sadhoo Budhu Shah lived there. He was on the side of the Guru. His whole family was killed by the Hakams. We will take his revenge first. Let’s attack and kill them!” Many Nagaras came into the Dal. They were commanded to be sounded. Everyone became alert, hearing the Nagaras. They mounted their horses with their weapons. Baba Banda Singh ji mounted his horse and commanded the army. Baba Binod Singh ji and Baba Kahn Singh ji were with him. They all went to Sidhaura and surrounded it. (Baba Alli Singh ji and Baba Malli Singh ji came) The canons and big guns were fired. The Turks first came out and fought. Many Syeds, Khans and Mughals came out to fight. A fierce battle was fought. Bullets and arrows flew. The Dal attacked the Turks from all 4 sides with force. The Turks were turned back. They couldn’t stay out. They went inside to their big fort to fight. There was a high fort there with solid walls. It was hard to break the fort. The Dal set up the posts there. The canons fired from both sides. There was a grave there that belonged to Kumait Shah. There was a lot of gold on his grave. It was on a high place. There was gold on the inside as well (the grave had powers and would bother the Hindus by not letting their dead bodies burn, forcing them to be buried instead). The Turks threw rocks on top of the Dal. Many rocks rained on the Dal. The battle happened everyday. The charges were fierce. When the fort was not broken, Baba Banda Singh ji thought of a plan: “we need to make a high Damdama.” Thousands worked to make the high Damdama. The Dal got bigger by the day. It grew many folds. People from far away came to loot. They looted many villages and brought money. The Damdama was made really high. Baba Banda Singh ji climbed the Damdama and looked towards the Turk fort. He mounted an arrow of Guru ji on his bow and pulled it. He commanded the Dal: “attack now!” As the army heard that, loud noises of yelling rose from all around. The army was huge. They ran and attacked the fort. The warriors rode up the walls and entered the fort. The swords swung and the fight began. Many were cut. The bodies piled up. Everyone was destroyed with one charge. The fort was destroyed. The walls were taken down. It became a flat field. The whole Dal went into the city and looted whatever they saw. They killed anyone they saw. The Mughals, Pathaans and Syeds were all killed. Not one survived. The big Shiekhs were killed. The place was very scary to see. The Dal went into the homes to loot.
The Turkanis were taken by the lower caste people. They experienced them and didn’t let them go. Some Turkanis were brought into the Dal and mice were put into their Suthans. The Suthans were tied from the top and bottom. The women jumped around. The bottom of the Suthans were tied as well so the mice couldn’t get out. The women Syeds, Mughals and Pathaanis; what can be said about them? They were treated really badly. The women who had never even seen a man before, they were in a really terrible state, made to run around. This was the result of the deep sins these people had done. The whole city was destroyed. The men were all killed. The women were taken. There was a lot of death all around.
Baba Banda Singh ji thought to himself: “the grave of the Peer Kumait Shah hasn’t been destroyed yet. There is a spell on this grave that if a dead body of a Hindu crossed it, it couldn’t burn anymore. They would have to be buried. It is not good to leave the grave as is. It should be destroyed. We will see the Maseet after.” Baba Banda Singh ji went to the grave himself. The grave was made of gold. The grave sensed the arrival of Baba Banda Singh ji and began to shake along with the place it was in. It trembled. Baba Banda Singh ji took an arrow of Guru ji and poked the grave with the tip of the arrow. He stabbed the grave and spoke with anger: “oh coward! What use is it to tremble now? It is the time for our revenge!” The grave stopped trembling. Many other men came to destroy the grave. When the whole grave was dug, the bones of the dead Peer were taken out and burnt in fire. The men then destroyed the Maseet. It was destroyed and reduced to a flat rubble on the field. The powers that were in the grave were destroyed. The revenge was fulfilled that Guru ji had instructed. The Peer and the people of the city were killed.
Many thousands joined the Dal of Baba Banda Singh ji. More weapons, horses and canons gathered. The whole Turkana Desh trembled from this fierce campaign that Baba Banda Singh ji had started. The people heard about this and began to lose their patience and courage. They said: “who is he? We can’t tell. He isn’t a Raja nor an owner of any land. He came out of nowhere. He came all of a sudden and is destroying the Desh. Who knows what he will do in the future.”
2-9 Battling with Wazeer Khan
In this way, Baba Banda Singh ji was destroying the Turkana. He destroyed the villages. His army became huge. He then set off from there and headed towards Samana. Many Pathaans lived there. The people of Samana travelled on palanquins. 22 palanquins would travel from there meaning 22 Syeds lived there. They all had kept armies of their own. They lived a very good and rich life. After hearing that they had a lot of money and wealth, Baba Banda Singh ji gathered his army. The Nagaras were sounded. They looted and plundered many villages of the Turks on the way. The dust flew, covering the sky. Many canons and guns were fired. There was a lot of noise in the land. Many people left their villages like dead leaves being blown by the wind. The army travelled one camp at a time. Baba Banda Singh ji came and challenged the Pathaans: “I will kill you all! I will do what it takes. If you run away, I will surround you.” The Pathaans couldn’t tolerate that. They gathered their huge armies. The two armies fought on the battlefield. A huge battle raged on. Canons and guns fired. It was like the lightening striking, like Kalika had awoken. It rained cannonballs and bullets. There was chaos all around. The rifles fired, sounding loud. It was as though Bhairav roared. The Bhoots and the Prayts danced and sang. The Kaljognis drank the blood and shouted in joy. The battle was fierce. The bodies piled up. The vultures pecked at the flesh. Other scavengers came to eat. The crows ate mouthfuls. They cawed. The dogs barked and ate a lot of flesh. The cowards saw this and ran away leaving their egos behind. How much can I talk about the battle? Many Pathaans lay dead on the ground. Baba ji stood and watched the fight. When the battle would get stuck, Baba Banda Singh ji wound take out one of Guru ji’s arrows to call upon the Army of the Shaheeds. He would just pull the arrow on his bow and the army of the enemy would die without being hit. He wouldn’t fire the arrow. In this way, the huge forts of Samana were destroyed. He broke the biggest forts. They mansions and forts of the rich and powerful Pathaans were destroyed. The army would be destroyed with the forts. Such was the power of the arrow of Guru ji. The enemy would not be able to stay. They were all destroyed. Samana was looted and destroyed. The strong and powerful Pathaans were all killed. The Turkanis were brought out and the low caste ones kept them for their own pleasure to have their way with them. The Dal spread out and the whole Desh was looted. The whole Malva Desh was looted. The whole Puaad was looted and ruined. The news spread far and wide.
Guru ji had told Baba Banda Singh ji not to destroyed Sunaam. Sadhoo Moola ji lived there. The Singhs that lived in other lands, they all heard and came to join Baba Banda Singh ji on his conquest: “our great army has become strong. There is nothing else to do but to kill and loot the Desh. Sirhind is damned. We should go and destroy it.” Wazeed Khan the sinner lived there who killed the Sahibzadas. The Singhs wanted to destroy Sirhind by their own hands. Baba Banda Singh ji was ready to attack. He made plans on when to attack and take revenge for Guru ji’s sons. We wanted to make the people of Sirhind scared. The people of Sirhind came to the Sooba and said: “the whole Desh is in chaos. You didn’t think before killing the Guru’s sons. That sin is now coming out to its result. Lakhs of people are in pain because of you. You should get ready to fight. Gather your army and stop them. Many have fought them and died. The Guru’s Dal has become really strong.” The egotistical Wajeed Khan heard this and gave hope to the people of Sirhind: “he hasn’t seen my hands yet. When they see it, the army will fall apart. I will attack and destroy them. The ones that have joined, you won’t see them again. I will kill each and every one of them. Nobody can stand in front of my army. I will see what they do.” He made preparations after saying this. Thousands of horses were saddled. The army of Lahore was called. They all gathered. Hundreds of Nagaras played as they came. It was like the water of the ocean spreading. There were Dheras all around Sirhind. Elephants and horses were many in numbers along with the soldiers. Wazir Khan heard of Baba Banda Singh ji’s whereabouts and headed off. He was proud of his army. He travelled a little and heard of the villages of the Turks that were destroyed. He heard of the places that were looted and destroyed.
Baba ji would destroy a new village everyday. Some were destroyed and some fell under his command. The people would bring food, clothes and money for the army. The army didn’t stop anywhere other than to fight. They would always carry their weapons. Baba Banda ji heard of the Sooba of Sirhind coming with his huge army. Baba ji wanted to kill him. Baba ji looted Ambala and all of the villages in the area. He destroyed them all. He made the army travel in the direction towards the Turk army. He wanted to fight them with weapons. Chatt Banoor was destroyed. Chappar Chirri, that’s were both armies wanted to clash. On one side was the Guru’s Dal. On the other side was Wazir Khan’s. Lakhs of soldiers were ready to fight. Baba Banda Singh ji and Wajeed Khan, the two; both wanted to win. They made plans at night. The Misls were motivated to fight. They gave out gunpowder and bullets to their armies. They made all of the preparations to fight.
The next morning, they all wanted to fight. Both sides were angry. The command was given to play the Nagaras. The Gomukhs, Dhols and Pattas were played. Many rifles and canons were fired. Countless armies came. The earth trembled as they came. The regiments were bound far into the distance. They were ready with their rifles and bows. As the armies came close, the fights broke out. Many bullets and cannonballs were fired. The sound of the rifles firing came. The body parts were busted and cut. The warriors made their horses run as they attacked. Their faces were red with anger. Some were pierced with spears. Many were killed on the field. There was so much noise that you couldn’t hear your own spoken words. The dust was blinding. You couldn’t see the place close by. Both sides charged and met. The swords came out and the slicing began. Hand to hand combat began. They hit each other. The Singh didn’t care to control the shields. The swords were out and the charges began. By the canons, thousands were killed. Rifles were fired in the battle. Spears, Saangs, Jamdaras and swords were hit. Many horses were bare-backed. Their riders were killed. The warriors yelled: “kill them!” Many bodies piled up. The warriors were drenched in blood. The ground was red. The Bhoots, Prayts and Betaals danced. Many heads laid cut. Hands and feet were cut. How can I describe this battle? The Singhs were filled with anger and rage. They wanted revenge. If I state this history in detail, the Granth would become really long. Lakhs of people died in this battle.
2-10 Killing Wazeer Khan/ Destroying Sirhind
Baba Banda Singh ji stopped his warriors and said: “nobody will kill Wajeed! I will kill him with my own hands!” He said this and made all his men stop. Many warriors had died when Baba Banda Singh ji came himself with his horse. He came in front of Khan Wajeeda. He yelled: “listen oh murderer of the Sahibzadas; I have destroyed your kingdom! You did the lowest crime which can never be forgiven! You will suffer the consequences now! Your army and Desh will be destroyed by my hands! You didn’t respect Guru ji.” Wajeed Khan heard this and yelled to his army: “what has happened to my men? The enemy has come in front of me! He is the Sardar of the enemy Dal. Fire your guns and kill him. Take your spears and kill him! Kill him quickly!” His men gathered and attacked Baba Banda Singh ji. Many arrows and bullets showered. Baba Banda Singh ji was fighting face on. He took an arrow of Guru ji and mounted it on his bow. When he pulled it, guns from both sides began to fire. The Army of the Shaheeds came. Thousands of Turks fell from their horses. The both sides charged and the battle got fierce. Baba ji had pulled Guru ji’s arrow with all his force. Nobody had the power to face Guru ji’s arrow. Many Turks ran away from the battle. Wajeed Khan saw the state of his army and wanted to save his life. Baba Banda Singh ji thought to himself: “I will kill him a horrible death. He is a big sinner. If I kill him with weapons he will receive the highest status of a warrior’s death, easily. He deserves to go to Hell.” Baba Banda Singh ji thought of this and came close to Wajeeda. With his strength, he grabbed Wajeeda’s leg and took him off his horse. He took his horse and trampled Wajeeda (he was then pulled and dragged by bulls. After that, he was hung upside down on a tree and burnt alive). Wajeeda died. The coward sinner died. The one who gave pain to the Sahibzadas, he was killed. When his soldiers couldn’t see Wajeeda, they ran away.
Baba Banda Singh ji’s men looted and killed the Turks. Thousands of horses were achieved. There was no counting of how many weapons they took. The army looted the whole Bazaar of Sirhind. They achieved tents, canons, swivel guns and immense wealth. The soldiers of the city, who were in the thousands, they all ran away from the damned city. Nobody stayed with their feet. The Dal of Baba Banda Singh ji took over the city. They looted and ruined the city. The cowards were kicked out. Thousands came to loot. They came into the city with eagerness. Many who had been running day and night, they came to the city gates. The city dwellers had nowhere to run. Wealth worth millions were looted by the army. The looters took it all. The ones that fought all died. Only the ones that ran away were saved. The whole city was looted. Gold, silver and money were looted. The Bazaars were all looted. Whoever tried stopping them, was killed. The soldiers went into the homes and looted. They took the money and wealth. The Mughal, Syed and Pathaan women were taken by the lowly people and kept with them to have their way.
One Khatri whose actions were of Chandaals, the sinner, Jhoota Nand (Sucha Nand); the one who had the Sahibzadas killed, he had hatred because his daughter’s marriage proposal was rejected for Sahibzada Ajeet Singh ji. The Singhs thought of him. They found his home and grabbed him. They pierced his nose and put an iron bangle through it. They tied a rope to it and dragged him. All of the homes of Sirhind were looted and destroyed. The soldiers took all of the women and kept them with them. The looters were satisfied with the money they looted. They came out of the city and went to their camps. There was chaos, far into the distance. The men and women of the city were crying.
Turk Wajeed Khan and his men were condemned by his own people. They said: “he destroyed the foundations of the city by his sin. He killed the sons of Sri Guru ji and now the sin has taken fruition. The whole city is in pain.” The people of the city became humble and left all their wealth to run away. They were scared. They said: “if we survive, we will go and make a decent living.” How can I describe the state of the city? Everyone left their stuff and ran away. Krores of Rajitpuns came to the Dal. Everyone gathered a lot of wealth and money. The biggest Umraavs were all killed. The ones that used to ride elephants, they couldn’t be found anymore. The soldiers entered their homes and looted everything. Their women were captured. The poor people were greedy and began to dig the homes of the rich people. They were trying to find buried wealth. They found a lot of money in the ground. Many big homes were torn down. The forts that had the wealth, they found them and took the wealth. Baba Banda Singh ji took Krores of Rajitpuns. Whatever wealth Wajeed Khan had, Baba ji took it under him. Where the rich people lived, they were robbed as well. The people of the city were scared and ran away. Their whole homes were looted. The people only had the clothes on their backs. They wanted to save their lives and left all their belongings. Everyone was in trouble. If someone stopped, they were killed. The sons of the Guru were killed and so these people suffered the sins. Who was going to save this city?
For many days, the Dhera stayed there. Baba Banda Singh ji commanded: “tear all the homes down. Take all the roots of the city and throw them into the Sutlej. Make the curse of the Guru true! Whoever destroys the homes of this city, they will receive a lot of money.” The people of the Dal and other poor people came to destroy the homes that were beautiful. They had huge doors, windows, 4 stories and huge Ataris. The most expensive material was used to make the homes. The doors were beautiful. Some had gold on them. A lot of art was on the homes. They had stools and chairs that were beautiful. The homes were amazing to look it. It was like the Amravati Puri. They were all torn down and destroyed. The people dug and found a lot of wealth. The homes were reduced to flat rubble. This was the result of killing the Guru’s son. It was as though nobody had ever lived there before. Baba Banda Singh ji had the Khatri Jhoota Nand called. His nose was pierced with an iron bangle. His hands and feet were tied. He was dragged and given to the Chandaals. Baba Banda Singh ji commanded: “the Bazaar of the Dal, drag him throw the whole Bazaar. Have him beg for Kodis from all of the vendors in the Bazaar. Have everyone hit his head with their shoes 5 times each. Take him all around. Beat him to death like this.” The people heard this command and did what they were told. Jhoota Nand was slapped in the head with shoes. The enemy of the Guru was killed in this way. He suffered the pain and went to Hell.
Jhoota Nand had a daughter who was 8 years old. She was captured by the Dal when they came to know of her. Some became compassionate and said to Baba Banda Singh ji: “what is this poor girl’s fault? His father was the sinner. She doesn’t know anything of the world. We should let her go. Let her go and nobody should capture her.” Baba Banda Singh ji heard this and became very angry. He said: “what is this that you are telling me? The Sahibzadas were milk-drinking children. They didn’t know of the world either. What was their fault? There was a court full of thousands of smart people. The fools did not think of this then. They listened to the Khatri and killed the children. The daughter of Jhoota Nand, she should not be released. Bring her to me. She should be given to the Chandaals. They will make her one of their own. The Chandaal will become the sinner’s son-in-law.” The girl was called and the Chandaals were ordered to take her. They took the girl to their home. In this way, all of the sinners were killed, one by one. The people who were the slanderers of the Guru, they were brought to the attention of Baba ji. Baba ji had them found. They were brought and had their hands, feet or nose cut off. Some had their faces blackened and paraded on donkeys. Some were grabbed and thrown into the well. They all died horrible deaths. The men remembered their sins and killed them one by one. Their roots were pulled. In this way, Sirhind was killed and destroyed. Krores of Rajitpuns were dug up and taken. The slandering enemies of the Guru were killed. The revenge was taken and the Fateh was said.
