2-21 Satguru ji Gives Wisdom
The people sat in lines as per Varan and Ashram. They all gathered and sat accordingly. Their hands were washed with water. They were given food with respect. The Panchamrit was distributed first. It was given out quickly. Many Mal Poorays, Pooriyas, Kachoris, Pakoras and other foods were given. It was delicious. People praised Guru ji, whoever ate the food. They all ate food as much as they wanted to. They were all satiated but still ate. The Langris made and distributed the food quickly. They said: “take more!” They gave food to all openly. Everyone ate in a good way. It was delicious food. They all praised the food. They washed their hands with water after. They praised Guru ji and did his Darshan. They touched Guru ji’s feet. They then went to their homes. The whole day was spent in giving the food. Guru ji said to all: “do the Simran of Parmeshwar, the Mine of Virtues. Tomorrow is Thursday and the Panchmi. It is a good day. Think about it. I am getting ready to go to Parlok. Be in joy. Don’t be in sorrow. Do the Jagran all night and chant Gurbani. Gather the items for the pyre. Bring sandalwood and everything. If you don’t find something, find it.” Bhai Santokh Singh ji spoke: “we have travelled around. Whatever has come, they are the needed things. 100 Maunds of sandalwood is here. Attar and Gullab is here. Fine fabrics were made. The tailor is sewing your Chola which will be ready tomorrow morning. It is brand new. Kusha, ghee and sesame Seeds are here.” He spoke of all the items. Deepmalas were done by Guru ji in every home; door and window. The night was bright. Gurbani was chanted by all. Their minds had the love of Parmeshwar. Bhagwant ji was in solitude. Many saints, Sikhs and Mahants came, saying: “his Darshans are rare.” The Darshan was the last one. They all came. They all gathered and came to Guru ji. The night was spent awake. They all did the Simran of Guru ji’s praises.
At Amritvela, everyone bathed. Sri Prabhoo ji sat in Dyana, in his own form. It was the Sat, Chetna and Anand form. He was still in his form. It was the omnipresent form that was all-pervading, like space. There is no one else besides Parmatma. It exists in past and present. It is never destroyed. The Shrutis call this form “Sat” Naam. Maya, universe and Avidya; without the Brahm, they are lifeless. The Brahm meets with the body and makes it Kiraymaan with wisdom. This is the Chetna. The mind becomes aware and begins to wander by this. Without this, everything is lifeless. The pleasures of all the senses; they are just a drop of the ocean of Anand of Parmatma. Guru ji’s focus was still, in that form; which destroys the Agyaan of the people. By Guru ji’s blessing, one can understand this. The solid form, the Asthool, Guru ji’s focus was detached from that now. He was focused on the Sooksham. He was looking at the world as the rope, instead of the snake. He saw himself as the Sat form. It is where there is no child, adult or old. It is never born nor does it die. There is no ego of the body. He was in such the form. Where would joy and sorrow be then, if one thinks like this? The form is indestructible and never in pain. He closed his eyes at Amritvela.
The Singhs came and bowed. Guru ji opened his eyes. They folded their hands and said: “please give us wisdom. We do your Darshan for joy now. How will our minds be still after you?” Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji spoke: “listen Khalsa. You are my beloveds. The Parmeshwar’s will happens as it is designed. In past or future; it will not be destroyed. Whoever is born must die. Whatever you see will all cease to exist one day. Night, day, sun, moon that is made; they have an age, counting down. Only the Akaal is without death. When the age is finished, death eats all. In all of the 14 Loks, there is nothing that stays forever. Who is it that is not under the spell of death? The universe is made of the 5 primal elements. The great and harsh death will eat them too. If the material and cause is destroyed, how will the effect remain? Kamalasan, Brahma, is considered the creator but the death will eat him as well. In this way, Vishnu and Shamboo are the same. When their age is up, they will die as well. What can we say of others? The one who stays still in the 14 Loks; don’t love what you see. This will be the cause of pain. Sat and Chetna, the Anand, it is smaller than small. Death cannot come there or eat it. It is indestructible and forever. That is your real form. Recognize it. Stay in joy. Don’t be in sorrow. It is always the same. It is not young nor adult nor old. It is not born nor does it die. There is no pain or problem. It is the form of Anand. There is no obstacle there. Sri Satguru ji lives there. It is where there is no joy, sorrow or destruction. When the Jeevs of the world are in pain; when their minds are not calm; they are stuck in the ego of the body; stuck in love and hatred day and night; stuck in the 5 types of Kleshas (Avidya – ignorance, Asimta – attachment to ego, Prem – attachment to material objects, Dvaikh – jealousy and Abhinvesh – fear of death, desire to live); illusioned by Maya all the time; competitions and conflicts, dying in them; going to Hell for pain; for the good of these Jeevs, the Satguru takes on a human body and comes to the earth. The Satguru gives wisdom by his own power. The Satguru destroys the vices from the heart of the Jeevs and shows the righteous path. The ones who follow receive Mukti. They are saved from the pain of Hell. The fortunate ones only meet the Guru. They take the wisdom of the Guru and are saved from the world. They save themselves and save others as well. The Guru shows the good path and then returns to his own home. When there is a drought on earth; the people are in pain, the heat scorches the earth; the crops burn; the clouds come with rain; they rain and cool everything down. The earth becomes fertile for crops and is satiated. The clouds then immerse back. They go back to where they came from. The Satguru’s body is the same way. The Satguru shows the righteous way and gives wisdom. After, the Guru go backs to his own place. The Guru is always with his Sikhs. Love arises in the hearts of the Sikhs. The Guru is always by their side. They do the Simran of Satnam. The Sikhs are never weak. I gave you Shasters for the kingdom. The ones who die in battle, will go to Heaven. I have put you in the lap of the Devi Mata. I have attached you to the cloth of Akaal Purakh. Taking the cream of all the Vedas and the Shastras, it has been illuminated in the Guru’s Bani. Read and listen to Gurbani. Earn the wisdom. You will then go to the Lok of the Guru without a doubt. The body is always in this state: they are all destroyed that are born. The ones who have done the Simran of Satnam, they become Aatam Gyaanis and become still in their real home. Such people have made their lives a success. They cross the earth, easily. They are never born again nor do they die again. They immerse into the Sat, Chetna and Anand form”
2-22 Getting Ready for Joti Jot
It was Thursday, the Panchmi of Kathak Sudhi. It was morning. Guru ji was in bliss. His face bloomed with joy. His words were like fragrance. The people came in the thousands like bees to smell his words. The many that came during the Yagna, they ate and told others of Guru ji’s state. Wherever the news spread, they all praised Guru ji’s great glory: “the Dasam Guru, the Sodhi Sultan, Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji is known in the world. He was the fire that destroyed the jungle like warriors. He is the strongest warrior. He fought like Ghanshyam fought millions. He is an Atirathi. He told everyone beforehand that he is leaving. He made preparations to go to Parlok. Today is the Panchmi. He had all of the stuff gathered. People are running to his door. Let’s go! Let’s do the Darshan of the Sodhi Leader. His Darshan will be rare. His feet give all 4 Padarthas.” Many came running to Guru ji. A great crowd gathered from all four sides. They came from far and near. They were amazed. They were in bliss to see him. Jogis, Jattis, Brahamachaaris, Vairagis and people of different cloths came. Hindus and Turks heard and came. They were anxious to come, from all around. Peers, Fakirs and Sadhoos all came. They wanted to do his Darshan with eagerness. They said: “Dhan is the complete Satguru!” People from near and far said this. There was a Mela in all 4 directions. Satguru ji gave everyone his Darshan. The Divaan was for 2 hours and then he got up to come to his seat. The Karah Prashaad was distributed. People ate as much as they wanted to. Sri Guru ji called for his own plate and ate as much as he wanted to. Guru ji held a cup to drink water. He drank some and then gargled. He washed his hands with water and sat on his seat. He laid down for some time. He was the ocean of the Sodhis, the moon of the dynasty. When it was close to evening, he called for his Sukha and Afeem. He had the Degh and then bathed. He wore new clothes and wore a new Kachera. He rung the water from his hair. He gave Dhoop to his hair and tied his Joora. He put oil on his hair, beard and moustache. A Dastaar made of a fine fabric came. The servants unwrinkled his Dastaar and placed it beside his pillow. Guru ji tied a blue Farla into his hair and let a ploom free. He tied another Dastaar which was wrapped around his Joora. He tied the Dastaar around while going over the Joora. He looked into the mirror while tying it. It was a beautiful Dastaar. The servant brought an expensive Jigha from the treasury. It was made well and worth a lot. Guru ji tied it on his Dumalla. The diamonds and other gems shined on it. They reflected in the light, looking radiant. There were strands of pearls from it. Guru ji tied a beautiful Kalgi in the middle, which had many colours of gems in it. It was radiant. Guru ji tied it high. It swayed when Guru ji moved his head. The clothes of fine fabric, Guru ji wore his Jamma. It had many pleats. Guru ji tied the strands of the Jamma, which were many. He hung his shield on his back. He fastened a sword with a sharp edge and golden hilt. The hilt had many gems in it. The scabbard had many gems in it. The Tokar was made of silver. The Gatra was made of zarri. Sri Satguru ji bowed to the sword before putting it on. He then tied a quiver to his back. The arrows had gold on them. The Kunk feathers were on the back. They were like flying snakes. He put that around his shoulder. On one side he had the arrows and on the other was his sword. He tied an expensive Kamarkassa that had goldwork on both ends. He put a Bichua, Khanjar, Baank, Kataar and a Pech Kabaz in his Kamarkassa in a great way. He tied the Kamarkassa well. He put on his weapons as if clouds of winter were showing their glamour. The weapons all had gold work on them, looking like lightening. He wore a necklace of white pearls around his neck which looked like white herons flying. He picked up a bow which was radiant like a rainbow in the sky. They Sikhs were happy to see this, like peacocks seeing the clouds and the rainbow in anticipation of rain. Guru ji spoke sweet words with his deep voice. The Sikhs listened to him with joy like Chatriks. They were looking for the drops of wisdom, like the Swanti drop. They wanted the Kleshas to be destroyed. Guru ji wanted to give them Aatam Gyaan. Many came to him for his Darshan.
Guru ji then sat on his Singhasan and fulfilled everyone’s wishes. The people folded their hands and bowed to the Master’s feet. Some put their foreheads upon Guru ji’s feet. They said Guru ji’s praise to him: “you came to this world to save it. You gave Brahm Gyaan to Lakhs. Lakhs have begun to do the great Bhagti. Gursikhi has spread in all directions. You gave wisdom and killed the poison of the vices from the hearts of the Sikhs. You created the Panth Khalsa and destroyed the radiance of the Turks.” In this way they praised Guru ji. Thousands came to do his Darshan. Sri Guru ji said to all: “listen Khalsa, stay in attention. Pitch a huge tent around me. Everyone is to stay away from the tent at a distance. Bring all of the sandalwood here. Create a pyre. Clean the place with Lep and lay Kusha there. Build a pyre of sandalwood. Put oil, sesame seeds and ghee into the pyre along with other things. Put all of the fragrant items there. Make the preparations and don’t delay. I have already bathed. I am wearing a new Jama. You don’t need to do any of these things for me. I have put my clothes and weapons on. These will remain with me. I have worn it all in a good way.” The Singhs obeyed and put up a tent where Sri Takhat Sahib ji is today. They dug and planted the studs into the ground with many nails. They tied ropes around them. The inside was cleansed with Lep. Sandalwood was placed there. The firewood was set into a pyre. It was made solid in a good way so the pyre wouldn’t throw sparks outside of it. The wood was placed on top of each other. They sprinkled many bottles of rose essence. The sides of the tent were drenched in rose essence. Attars and Phullels were put in the pyre. A great fragrance arose from there. They completed all of the tasks. Thinking of Satguru ji going to Parlok, the Sikhs began to mourn. They were in pain from this depression. Their eyes shed tears. They thought: “from whose support will we live by? Whose Darshan will give us joy? Who will give us wisdom? We left our own Desh and came to this foreign land.” They thought of all these things within their hearts. They thought of all this while they were working with their hands.
2-23 Wisdom for the Sangat
The preparations were made in every way. All of the Sikhs came. They folded their hands and spoke words from an emotionally swollen throat: “Maharaj, as was your command, everyone came together and completed the tasks.” Satguru ji looked towards the Khalsa who had tears in their eyes and thought to himself: “they are lovers of my form. They left their families and came here.” It was soon evening. Everyone did Sri Prabhoo ji’s Darshan. Guru ji had all of the Sikhs sit close to him with respect and said: “my beloveds, don’t be in sorrow. The Sthool body (solid) meets and separates. Ishwar has set this rule for the 14 Loks. The love for the body is never stable. It is like the sand castle near the shores of a river. Have faith on my Shabad, Gurbani, which is my heart. Meet Gurbani, morning and evening. Make your mind mix with the praises of Hari. If you meet with Gurbani, you will never be separated from the Guru. The Gurbani will support you in this Lok and in the next. It will destroy the fear of Jumms from your heart.” The Khalsa heard this and made a request: “Sri Prabhoo ji, all of us are thinking: when the 9 Paatshaahs left, they attached the Sangat to the next Guru. They would then go to Baikunth. On whose feet shall we place our heads now? Who will support us now? Who will the Panth Khalsa follow?” Sri Guru ji gave hope to all: “I have already told you: you are tied to Akaal Purakh. I surrendered you to him and made you hold his cloth. Stay in the shelter of the feet of the Prabhoo (Guru Granth Sahib ji). Don’t seek the support of anyone else. You will be happy in this Lok and content in the Parlok. Keep the faith upon the Guru, everyday. Read the Bani of all the Gurus. Keep the Rehit that I have told you. I put you in the lap of Mata Kalika. The Panth Khalsa will be happy. When you meet Five Singhs who keep the Rehit, see them as my form in a great way. The food and clothes you give to them, that will be received by me. Your wishes will be fulfilled from the Five Singhs. Having faith upon them, your worries and pains will die out. Within the Five Sikhs is where I live. I will fulfill whatever is their wish. Practice Shaster Vidya. Become warriors and destroy anyone who comes to fight you, face on. You will receive all of the objects of the world. You will experience them and make others experience them as well. If you die in battle, you will go to Heaven. All of your desires will be fulfilled. The one who dies in battle without desires, will become One with me. They will never be born again nor will they die again. Do the Ishnaan (cleanliness), Naam (Simran) and Dhaan (charity). Be blessed with love. The Khalsa will grow in the future. The Sikhs will come together and rule the earth. It will be achieved while the Turks are destroyed by the day. The ones who survive will be paupers in pain. They have done many sins. They will be punished by time/death. See me as by your side, all the time. I will always assist you. See me as your own. Do the recitation and practice of Gurbani everyday. Destroy the sinners with the Shasters. As the Ten Gurus did, listen to their history with love. This will give you wisdom along with blessings. Both the reciter and the listener will receive joy. The Guru is the Khalsa, the Khalsa is the Guru; from this day onwards, this is the new tradition. I have placed my Jot inside the Khalsa. The world has seen this.” After saying this, Guru ji rid the sorrow of the Sikhs. Every heart was happy now.
Guru ji’s beard become long, up to his abdomen. He fixed his beard with his hands. The two parts of his beards stiffened up towards the front, by his fixing. The two parts had some distance between them. There were some white hairs in the beard. Guru ji fixed his moustache with his hands. He was sitting in joy. The Sikh Sangat came. They all spoke to him, well into midnight. Guru ji sat in peace. The time to go to Baikunth had come. Guru ji knew this. The Devatas and Devis came to the sky, leaving their dimensions. Agni, Inder, Varun, Kuber, Chander and Soorya came in forms. The 8 Vasus, 11 Shivas, Vaayu, all came in forms. Ashwani Kumar, Vishwakarma and all of the other Devatas came to respect Sri Gurdev ji. Brahma, Naarad and others; Gorakh and others came with joy. They all stood in the sky. The other Powers came as well. Sidhs, Peers from near and far came. The Bidhyadhars and Gandarvs came in great numbers. The Kinnars, Jachs and Apsaras came. They came from Heaven to congratulate the dimensions Guru ji will pass. It was a great celebration they did. They shouted: “Jai Jai Sri Gurudev ji!” The 4 Vedas came in forms as they came to Sri Krishan ji. Brihaspati, Shukar, Ganesh and the 7 Rishis came and stood in the sky to see Guru ji and the Sikhs. The sky became crowded and a bright illumination could be seen in the night. Whoever sat besides Guru ji, could hear and see what was happening in the sky. Guru ji recited Sri Japji Sahib along with 5 Dohras: Har Har Jan Duee Ik (Hari and the servant of Hari are one) and others; the ones with the wish to become One with the Parmatma. He then recited: “Pritham Bhagauti Simran Kareeya, Sri Nanak Ko Dhyai Sanbhariyai.” He read this Pauri in its entirety and did the Ardaas while standing. He held a Karad in his hand while he completed the Ardaas. He tied a Makhmal Kamarkassa and placed his bow on his shoulder. He put a Karad in his Dumalla and picked up a rifle in his hand. He completed his Kamarkassa at about 2 am. He said to all: “Vahiguru ji ka Khalsa, Vahiguru ji ki Fateh!” Sri Guru ji said this who had the Jot. His face was blooming like a lotus seeing the sun. It was radiant like the moon; like the full moon of the winter. He was in bliss and gave bliss to all. Guru ji called the servant who took care of his horse and said: “in my stable, go and prepare all of the horses. Saddle them all and dress them. Make sure they are all ready.” The servant obeyed and went right away. He readied all of the horses. He dressed them all in golden jewellery which were beautiful. He put the bit in their mouths. Guru ji came to where many Sikhs had gathered. Seeing Guru ji’s ways, many were surprised. Many torches were lit. Sri Prabhoo ji stood in all, looking radiant. There was no one who was not mesmerized by this sight. The Jot on Guru ji’s face was four times brighter. He had his Shasters fastened around his waist. He gave his Darshan to all in a great way. Everyone was in bliss. Guru ji wanted to go towards the pyre. He gave wisdom to all. Everyone said: “Dhan Satguru ji, the giver of joy.” Everyone said this from every direction. Everyone could see Sri Satguru ji with their eyes at that time but when they tried touching him, coming close to him, their hands waved right through his body. The Sikhs were shocked to see this. Guru ji had become the Shabad and was above the physical realm.
2-24 Joti Jot – Immersing into the Light
Many Divas and torches were lit. Attar and phulel was sprinkled everywhere. The lines of the leaking essence oils could be seen. The Ghee was being burnt in the Divas. The night was bright, as though it was day. The thick darkness had disappeared. Guru ji’s eager feet walked towards the pyre. He was wearing clothes and weapons in a great way. Where the tent was pitched, Guru ji stood at the entrance and spoke to all: “when I go and sit on top of the pyre, you can all do the Parkarma at that time. You can then light the pure. Bow and go out then. Don’t delay this. Chant the name of Parmeshwar and keep hope and faith.” After saying this, Sri Prabhoo ji, the Compassionate One, came to the pyre. His bow and shield hung from his back. He had his rifle and spear in his hand. In his Kamarkassa was a Pech Kabaz, Jamdara, Khanjar and Shamshir. Guru ji was the form of Bir Ras, looking like a lion. His face was radiant. The Jigha and the Kalgi swayed on his Dumalla. His face was like the moon and the people looked at him like Chakors. Everyone saw the great radiance on Satguru ji’s face. They saw Guru ji as the sun, radiating. Their eyes were like the lotus. They stared at Guru ji without blinking. Where the sandalwood and Agar wood was, where the huge pyre was, Guru Bhagawan ji came to the pyre. There was firewood all around him. He gave the orders to the Sikhs to go back to their lands: “everyone go back home. Only one, Santokh Singh, will stay here.” Guru ji spoke to Jathedaar Bhai Santokh Singh ji with compassion: “stay in this place and give Langar. The Sikhs with faith, have them come here to stay. There will be a lot of money coming here. Don’t construct a Mandir here. Take all of the money and spend it on the Langar. Make Panchamrit and other things. The one who makes a building here, his family will rot away. For this reason, don’t forget what I said.” At that time, Bhai Santokh Singh ji folded his hands and said: “there is no Sikh Sangat in this area. How will we get money to make the Langar run? The Singhs that live here, how will they eat?” Guru ji spoke to give hope: “this Desh will not remain without Singhs. One or two groups will form here. There will be a lot of Langar here. As you make Langar, the groups of Singhs will come to eat. They will cook and distribute. Don’t worry about money.” Everyone heard this and bowed their heads.
They all did the Parkarmas of the pyre. They lit the pyre with fire and came out of the place. When they left the entrance, they heard a really loud noise: “Vahiguru ji ki Bahu Fathe!” Guru ji said the Fateh over and over again. The fire became fierce but did not touch Guru ji’s body. Satguru ji went into Samadhi. The Jog Agni came out of Guru ji all of a sudden. Guru ji left by the path of the sky. Everyone standing yelled: “hai hai!” The sky roared in a “Jai Jai!” They could hear the Jaikaras but couldn’t see anyone in the sky. The Devatas played their Nagaras and Naubats. Everyone heard it but couldn’t see it. Shehnais could be heard. It sounded like clouds thundering. The whole sky echoed loud. It was loud. It was like clouds slowly rumbling. There was light in the sky. It was red. Everyone could see it. It was as though the clouds lowered and ripped after the Savan rains; with the sun piercing through. It was like the red rays of the sun. You could see yellow along with red. There was a crowd of vessels. Everyone knew that Satguru ji was leaving. All of the Devatas came and shouted Jaikaras, along with conches and Shehnais. The Devatas came and said the “Vahiguru ji ki Fateh.” All of the Devatas met Guru ji and said: “Dhan is the Guru! You completed all of the tasks. You killed the families of the sinners with your strength.” Brahma, Shiva, Inder and Naarad with the Veena, sang praises. The throne of Guru Nanak Dev ji was great. Agni came. All of the wives of the Devatas came. They were in joy. They all showed their skills to Guru ji, the home of Vivek. They said: “the son of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadhur ji, bowing to you makes the pain go away. You created the Panth and established the Great Granth. You killed many sinners. Their families were killed. You gave joy to all. You are radiant. You are compassionate. Your face is blooming like the lotus. You kept the honour of the Hind and all of us Devatas. You destroyed the radiance of the Turks.” The Devatas celebrated. The wives of the Devatas danced. They celebrated the joy. They shouted Jaikaras. Mridinags, Nastrangs and Muchangs were played by the Devatas. Sarangis were played. Everyone wanted Guru ji’s Darshan. They were happy to see Guru ji and said: “Dhan Gurudev!” To respect the son of Guru Tegh Bahadhur ji, the Devatas came. Guru ji was the home of bravery. The Devatas and Devis were happy. They travelled with Guru ji. Guru ji met everyone and completed the traditions. Many celebrations took place. All of the Devatas were happy. In this way, the Devatas celebrated in the Sur Lok. There was joy in every gate.
The Singhs left the gate of the tent. They all came outside and sat. Their eyes shed a lot of tears. They focused on the form of Sri Guru ji. The meditated upon Guru ji’s handsome form and made their minds still. They thought of the many virtues of Sri Guru ji. They praised Guru ji’s patience and serene nature. The Singhs said: “oh Sri Prabhoo ji, the Singhs from Punjab, you were their support. Who is our support here now? Who will we sit with everyday? Who will we see, morning and evening? Other than Sri Guru ji’s sweet words, who will we listen to now? Whose wisdom will we listen to now, surrounding them? Who will we look at and be in bliss? You are our faith in the both Loks. You are our master.” They shed tears and lowered their heads. They had worry in their minds. Nobody talked to each other. Nobody looked at each other. Just as many snakes would gather and have one mani between them, if it would disappear all of a sudden; this was the state of the Singhs. They said: “we are unfortunate that we tolerated his separation. We should have left our bodies along with Guru ji. Look at the love of the moth; it sacrifices its body in the fire, seeing its light. The deer hears the sound of the kandahera, deer horn, and becomes mesmerized, losing its life. The bee loses its life for the fragrance of the flower. It doesn’t leave and gets trapped in the lotus in the evening. The fish lives in the water but dies when it separates from it. These lower life forms are greater than us; they give their lives for love. We have human bodies and know everything about gain and loss. Sri Guru ji’s love is the giver of joy, always. It blesses us in both Loks. We know of his greatness but we still didn’t follow through with the love. We remained unwise. Our hearts are harder than rock as we tolerated the separation of our love. There is no joy without him. He is the Master of the two Loks. We are sitting here, humbly without him. We didn’t go with the master.” The Singhs were the idols of depression. They sat still. They were under the command of Guru ji. They sat till morning.
In the morning, the servant of the stables went to the stables. He noticed that the horse of Guru ji, named Kumait, was missing. His ropes were untied, that tied the front and the back of the horse. He looked around to see by which way the horse may have travelled. He couldn’t find any tracks. The gates were closed. He ran to the Singhs and said: “Kumait, the horse, is not in his place. He was saddled and readied by Guru ji’s command. It seems as though he mounted the horse and left with him.” [The Mir Shikari also came at that time, informing the Singhs that Guru ji’s white hawk was also missing] The Singhs heard this and were shocked. They checked and said: “there is only one horse missing, which he loved a lot. The others horses are standing and crying. We are shocked. We don’t understand what happened.” When the day was an hour old, they all thought with pain.
A person carrying firewood had done the Darshan of Sri Guru ji, outside. He came to the Singhs who were crying in mourning. He saw them sitting in pain. He stood in front of the Singhs to give them a message: “Guru ji met me at a distance in the jungle. He said to me: “tell the Singhs: the horse came to me [along with the hawk]. This vessel of mines is really strong. It moves like the wind. Don’t mourn or worry in your minds. Chant the Satnam which will assist you in the end time.” After saying this, Sri Prabhoo ji left.” The Sikhs heard this and were amazed. It was Samvat 1765, recognize this. It was the Panchmi of Kathak Suddhi, the night, when the Prabhoo went to the Baikunth.
2-25 A Sant gets Darshan/ Helping Balay Rai
Hearing about the horse, the Singhs sat in mourning. The brave and powerful Warrior Guru took his own mount with him. When it was around 9 am, they were amazed thinking of the Guru’s ways. A Sadhoo walked to them. He saw the Singhs and said to them: “why are you all sitting here together? You are depressed, worried and sitting quietly.” The Singhs heard this and told the Sadhoo: “Sri Satguru ji has gone to the Baikunth. The whole army is without its general. It is like the night without the moon; as Shyaam departing from Mathura, leaving behind the depressed Gopis; as Ram going to the forest, leaving the people of Aud Puri in pain; in the same way, the Singhs are without the Satguru. Our hearts are full of pain and grief.” The Sadhoo spoke: “as I was walking on my way, I saw Guru ji coming from ahead. I folded my hands and bowed to his feet. He smiled and spoke to me at that time: “come Sant, take my Darshan and give me yours. It is blissful to meet the beloveds of Hari. This is our last meeting, where meeting and separation happens.” I heard this and said to him with folded hands: “where are you going? You have no servant with you. Master, where are you going alone?” Sri Guru ji smiled and said: “I am going hunting into the jungle. I will travel as much as I wish. I will go where I am in bliss.” He said this and went on ahead. He was on the Kumait horse, with all his weapons. It was just a little while ago. I came here to you right after. You told me that he has left. If he has gone to Parlok then how did I do his Darshan? I saw him on the way, properly. I am in doubt of how he went to Parlok.” The Guru’s ways were amazing. The Singhs were amazed. They all came to a conclusion: “Guru ji lives in every heart in the same way. Wherever you do his Simran, he comes to you. He sees the faith of the Sikhs and fulfills their wishes. He is not within birth and death. He can come into his human form, right away, on Demand. For the reason of protecting the saints; to uproot the sinners; to show the righteous path in the world, establishing it; to destroy the tyrants; to save his Bhagats; to lessen the weight of the earth, to lessen the pain of the people, to kill the tyrants who gave pain to the saints; to make all do the Simran of Satnam; the Guru came. He is great. He is the doer of all. There is nobody like him. He saved all. His ways are amazing. They can’t be known. Shaishnaag and Ganesh can’t know his end. He lives in the Dyana of the Jogis. Devatas, humans and Munis serve him. He takes on a body for a reason. He did all the tasks and went to Baikunth. We shouldn’t mourn him. The Vedas and Puranas praise the Guru. He is within all but separate from all. He experiences everything but is not affected by anything. His Katha cannot be spoken. Whoever tries, they lose.” The Singhs spoke amongst themselves and got rid of their depression for Guru ji’s separation.
It was late afternoon and the time for Sukha: “make the Degh and become alert. Come in attention and do Simran.” The Singhs got up for the Degh. They did the Sukha as they did for Guru ji. They did Bhog of it and then drank it themselves. They saw water and washed up. They bathed and tied their Dastaars. They then all came to Guru ji’s Darbar. They had all the Bhog done and Langar was distributed. They all ate and bowed with their hands folded. They sat around the place of the pyre. Many Singhs recited Gurbani and many listened with bliss. They slept little. Most were awake. They bathed in the Godavari in the morning. They then went to the place of the pyre. They opened up the coverings and collected the ashes. They didn’t find any weapons (alternatively in another account of history, a small Kirpal was found). Seeing this, they were amazed. There were no bones in the ashes. There were many burnt wood ashes. They understood that Guru ji went with his body. The people who met him on the way were right: “you are Great Guru ji! Your way is unique.” Everyone came to this conclusion and said this. They collected all of the Ashes and made a Singhasan at that place. Whoever does the Darshan of that place, their sins of many births are washed away. You receive many rewards. Your wishes are fulfilled.
The Godavari is beautiful with pure water flowing. The river is like the shore of the Ganga. Great trees with green leaves are there. They stand in lines, giving shade. Many coloured birds sing songs. This is the Singhasan of Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji. It is radiant. Whoever goes there, their wishes are fulfilled. Santokh Singh sings of this.
Abchalnagar is radiant in the whole world. The presence of his light is quite evident there. The Khandas, swords, bows, Khanjars, rifles, Tulwars, Kirpans and sharp arrows are there. The powerful Sirohis, Saifs, Saangs, Jamdaras, chakars, shields, spears, that had killed many sinners. The weapons shine bright like Kalika’s scary form. The Kavi bows to the place with his hands folded.
Till today, the Jot of the Guru is there. Whoever does its Darshan (Takhat Sri Sach Khand Hazoor Sahib), their sins are washed away. Just as gold is purified, the Sikhs are tested and forgiven there. After Guru ji went to Baikunth, many Singhs stayed there for a while. The Singhs then got permissions and went back home after bowing. Jathedaar Santokh Singh ji remained at the place. He ran the great Langar there. Many helped him from that Desh. Listen to the Katha oh listeners. There was a place named Janvara. Rustam Rai and Balay Rai were strong brothers. They ruled over some area in a good way. They looted the Desh of the Marathas. They would beat anyone who fought them. Everyone was afraid of them. Nobody could stand in front of them. They would give them their gold. The Raja of the Maratha attacked them. He brought an army of 1 Lakh. They fought many battles. Both brothers were surrounded and captured. They were chained and jailed. They were jailed in Satara jail where a bird couldn’t even go. What could humans do? Both brothers worshiped many Devs, Saints and Peers. Nobody helped them. In the jail was a guard who was a Singh. He recited Gurbani and kept Bibek. He guarded the jail and read Gurbani. The brothers listened. One day they asked: “whose Bani do you read?” The Singh said the praises of the Guru: “there is no one a bigger redeemer than him. His grandfather freed the Rajas of Gwalior who had no chance of being released. He helped the Rajput Rajas come out. Wherever you do his Simran, he comes there. Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji was a great Guru. His place is in Abchalnagar. He was the 10th Paatshaah. He made the Singh Panth in the world.” One Pathaan heard this and also praised Guru ji: “the Guru is really brave. He fought battles in Chamkaur and Anandpur. I have been there. I saw his strong arrows. He killed 10,000 with one arrow at Chamkaur. He has many powers. He can do whatever he wishes. His arrows go 5 km and more. He battled 1 million.” The Singh said: “what can you say about humans, he can save you from the Jumms.” Balay Rai heard this with his heart. Faith grew and he said with love: “Singh ji, get up and do Ardaas for us. Save us from the jail. We will serve the lotus feet of the Guru. We will give Panchamrit.” The Singh heard this and did the Ardaas. He did the Simran of the Guru’s name. He had love in his heart. He focused on the Guru, day and night. They did the Simran at midnight, Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji appeared. They heard the sound of the horse. The Rai got up and looked. He was shocked. He asked: “who are you?” Sri Prabhoo ji said: “I am who you were thinking of. I came to help you. Get up without delay.” Bala Rai said: “my feet are chained. My younger brother is sleeping nearby who is in the same state as me.” Guru ji said: “wake him up so he goes with you. Say Vahiguru so your chain breaks.” Bala Rai woke his brother. He said the Naam and the chains broke. Both got up and grabbed Guru ji’s feet. They said: “you are great! You saved us.” Guru ji said: “the ones who are my Sikhs, they do the Simran of the Satguru, morning and night. Forget about saving them from humans, I save them from the Jumms as well. You are standing on my either side. Grab the reins of my horse. Wake up the guards so they try to catch us.” The brothers grabbed the reins and said: “the Guru is now our helper. If the guards have strength, then catch us. Otherwise, we will go to our own Dhera.” The guards heard the loud voice and awoke. They tried to surround and catch them. Satguru ji made his horse fly like a bird. They flew 12 Kos where the Bindhyachal mountain is. After saving the brothers, Guru ji said: “don’t be stubborn to do the Darshan. Go to Abchalnagar. Whatever you wish to give, give it there. The five Singhs of mine are there. Have faith on them as they are my form. Your wishes will be fulfilled if you do the Pooja of the place.” Guru ji then disappeared. Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji is the wisest. He helped the captives. He cuts the noose of the Jumms for his servants.
