2-16 Comparing the Ideologies of the Hindu and the Turk/ Khalsa is the Third

Listen to the Gatha of Abchalnagar oh Sikhs.  Listen with your mind.  Many Singhs stayed with Guru ji.  Some came and some went.  Bahadhur Shah came one day to Guru ji.  He came to take leave.  All of his Umraavs, he brought along with his Ulmaavs and Maulanas.  They were wearing many expensive jewellery that shined like the moon and stars.  The Shah wore an expensive Chola.  They came to see Guru ji’s handsome form.  The Shah folded his hands and bowed.  He sat beside Guru ji.  Guru ji respected him and said: “oh Shah, tell me, is your kingdom well?  Have the rebellious regimes been dealt with?  Did you win the Dakhan area?  What is in your heart now?  Your kingdom is as big as your father’s now.”  The Shah said: “Sri Guru ji, you have been compassionate.  You gave it to me.  Who would be able to face me now?  I have won them all.  My army goes where they place.  I have won the Dakhan.  I will stay a few more days and go to Delhi.  I will sit on the throne and receive the updates from there.  I wish to go to Hyderabad now.  I have come to you to take leave.  I will leave for the Punjab Desh after.  I will complete the tasks of that area.  Sri Prabhoo ji, I wanted to ask you about the Hindu ideology.  It seems to be quite fragile and weak.  How did it come to be?  They form rocks and make idols out of them to place them inside the Mandirs.  They make paintings on the wall and do their Pooja.  They bow their heads to them.  They place food in front of them.  What task is fulfilled with the idols they make themselves?  They splash water onto the ground but how does it reach their ancestors?  They do Sharaads for their ancestors by feeding the Brahmins, inviting them into their homes.  The third thing Guru Sahib, as the Hindus are weak, I will tell you: they gather nuts, ghee, sugar, and sesame seeds and mix them all.  They put them in fire and make them ash to perform Yagnas.  They say this gives them rewards as told to them by the Munnis.  I am surprised at how they think the lie is the truth.”  Sri Guru ji responded: “the ideology of the Hindus is to earn Karma.  Just as a farmer serves a field, the crops grow and the farmer eats in the home; one serves a cow with love and receives milk which is delicious; by serving the king, one gets money; all these Sevas give you rewards; in the same way, the Hindus serve their Isht in the idols and focus on them.  They meditate on them and focus with love.  The wishes they have, they have them fulfilled by the idols.  This is their faith.  The two kinds of men, Aastik and Naastik (theist and atheist) were created by the Sri Parmeshwar.  The Parmeshwar loves both.  The Hindus are Aastik.  The Turks are Naastik.  The root of the tree is watered and one can take the fruits from the top.  That is how the Karma is on the earth.  The reward is received in the Heavens.  Look at your ideology how fragile it is.  You pray to graves which are dead.  What task can they complete for you?  What wishes are fulfilled from those who are mixed with the soil?  Do Bandagi everyday by becoming a Banda.  You haven’t seen nor heard the Rabb but you offer your Nivaaj.  The Allah has no form no colour nor place.  You bow to him, offer Darood and keep Rojas.  The Nivaaj would be a lie then.  What is there to say and to the task?  Your speculation is useless.  The ones who do good deeds, they remember the Khuddah.  The Peer, Paikambers and other, you bow to them, read the Fatiha and give the Darood along with keeping Rojas.  You give the Bhaang (call to prayer) and offer the Nivaaj.  The Mussalmans believe these things.  The Hindus do 3 Sandyas with love (morning, afternoon and evening).  They do Poojas of the Devatas with love.  In this way, the Hindus are accepted.  I see both Hindus and Turks as the same way.  I have rejected both ideologies.  I created the third, the Khalsa.  I saw both ideologies as lies and rejected it.  I have made the panth of Akaal Purakh.  I have destroyed both sides.  The Khalsa only keeps faith in the Akaal Purakh.  The Khalsa has just been born.  It is new.  It is a child in the world.  When it becomes older and it will be stronger and take what is rightfully belonged to it.  The Khalsa will destroy your graves and will not do the Pooja of the idols.  It won’t worship the Devatas.  It will only say Akaal Akaal!  Where your father is now, he is really worried.  He has nothing to spend.  He is worried in the court without any money.  The Hindus still send money to their ancestors.  Your father is taking deep breaths.  Your father is in a bad state.  He is getting badly punished.  He is a slave there.  He is without any earnings because of his bad deeds.  When one becomes a thief and steals, he can’t even ask for earnings in the true court.  This is the way of the world: this is how the earnings happen.”  Bahadhur Shah heard this and couldn’t say anything as everyone watched.  He understood the response and smiled a little.  He knew the Guru is omnipotent and extremely wise.  The other Maulanas and Ulmao, along with Soobas and Umraavs; the all saw Guru ji as wise.  Nobody spoke in front of Guru ji.  The ones who don’t know how to speak in the court, they are like dead people and are disrespected.  Guru ji gives quick answers to questions.  Everyone knew he was omnipotent and fully capable.  He was complete.  They understood in their minds and nobody spoke at that time.

The Shah asked about the Banda, the one who killed Lakhs: “Sri Prabhoo ji, make the Desh peaceful now.  Your enemies have died.  Wajeed has died along with Zabbardast.  Khatri Jhoota Nand was killed.  The Pahari Desh has been ruined.  I got news of this everyday.  Punjab has been destroyed.”  Sri Guru ji said: “he got married and so he lost his radiance.  The Khalsa has separated from him.  His ego has destroyed him.  My revenge has been fulfilled.  The Pahari Rajas that were corrupt were all destroyed.  Sirhind has been destroyed.  He will lose powers.  His army has fallen apart.  He will be surrounded in the fort.  He will be caught.  Your sultanate will stay as I said before.  After you, there will be many conflicts.  The Desh will be ruined.  Many will die.  This won’t be stopped.  Such will be the chaos after you.  Your father did many sins, for this reason your family’s rule will be done.  Other rajas on the earth will fight and kill.”  Bahadhur Shah was happy to hear this.  He said: “my kingdom will be fine then.  Whatever happens after me, will be.  Khuddah will do as he wishes.  Who knows.  Satguru ji, you are my protector.  You destroyed my problems of past and future.  You kept my honour as I came to your shelter.  What you have said was true.  Give me permission to leave now.  I will come back and do your Darshan.”  Guru ji smiled and said: “you have my Darshan now.  Go around the Dakhan Desh and make all the Rajas come under you.  Go and sit on the throne in Delhi.  Rule your land as long as you live.”  The Shah bowed and got up.  Guru ji gave him a Siropa.  Everyone bowed and left.  They praised Guru ji as they went back to their camps.  He spent the night and left in the morning.  He travelled in the Dakhan Desh.  Sri Guru ji stayed in Abchalnagar and wanted to go to the Baikunth, Sach Khand.

2-17 Gul Khan Pathaan

In this way Sri Satguru ji spent his days.  The Khalsa came in the mornings and the evenings to do Guru ji’s Darshan.  A huge Divaan was held all around Guru ji.  The Gurbani was sung in great sounds.  Guru ji dressed in expensive clothes and Shasters and sat in the middle of the Divaan.  It was like Kuber in the middle of the Jachs, fulfilling their wishes.  He was like Inder and Sachi among the Devatas.  He was like the Raghuveer among the Munis.  Guru ji would fasten his Kharag and hold his bow.  He was like Shyamghan, the handsome, among the Yadavs.  His eyes were always filled with compassion and would make his servants be without pain.  He would give wisdom to the Singhs as Kapil Muni would give wisdom to his students.  He would speak of the Brahm Gyaan as Brahma would speak of the Kaival Mukti.  Guru ji would assist his servants in any way required; just like Vishnu coming quickly to help his Bhagats.  He was determined within the Blissful form of the Aatma just like Shiva’s unwavering mind.  Just as Vyaas wrote compositions of history, Guru ji wrote many Chands.  He practiced archery all his life like Arjan.  He would give a lot of gifts of the Kavis.  He gave them pearls, diamonds, and expensive clothes along with a lot of money.  52 Kavis always stayed with him.  They would receive as much money as they wanted.  These Kavis translated the Mahabharat in many Chands.  They were very wise.  Just as Bikramajeet was a great donor, he gave it to all and had his praises spread; the Kavis sang Guru ji’s praises.  Shaishnaag and Sharda could not sing Guru ji’s praises fully.  Guru ji did many tasks like humans.  I have only written a few, as much as I could.  It was like an ant receiving a mountain of sugar.  I could only pick up as many skills of Guru ji as much as an ant could pick up sugar crystals.

One day, Guru ji was sitting casually in the Divaan.  The Singhs sat all around him.  A son of a Pathaan came into the court.  He did the Salaam and bowed his head.  The Pathaan did not have a beard yet.  He was young.  He stood at the front with respect.  Sri Guru ji said to him: “who are you and why have you come?  What is your name?  From which land is your home?  What is your wish?  What is your father’s and grandfather’s name?  Tell me your story?  The son of the Pathaan said: “Painday Khan was my grandfather.  My father was Sanday Khan.  My name is Gul Khan.  I am a Pathaan man, see me as a warrior.  My Desh and home are far from here.  I am grom Jalandhar in Doaba.  I am from Chota Mirpur.  I worked for the Badshah for a while.  I made a living by his money.  My mother told me about you.  I wished for your Darshan and to have my sins washed away.  I am pure now after seeing you.  You are the Peer of Peers.”  Satguru ji heard the Khan and respected him.  He had him sit next to him and said: “come here, all the time.  Do my Darshan as you wish.”  He sat for an hour and a half and then bowed.  He got up and did his Salaam.  Guru ji was compassionate with him.  He gave him 5 golden coins.  Gul Khan was happy with this.  He went back to his place.

Gul Khan told his mother what happened: “he was compassionate with me.  He gave me money when I was leaving.  He commanded me to come to him all the time.”  His mother heard this and was happy.  The next day, Gul Khan came to see Guru ji again.  He bent over and did the Salaam.  Guru ji had him sit with respect.  After a half hour, Guru ji said to him: “do you know how to play Chauper or not?”  The Pathaan said: “yes I do know how to play.”  Guru ji had the Chapur brought from the treasury.  It was placed out.  The pawns were made with gold and gems.  They shinned.  The dice was made of gems.  They played many plays.  Guru ji then said: “since when have you worked for the Badshah?  Since when have you been with the Shah?  How much money did you get from him?”  The Pathaan folded his hands and said: “I have been with him for a long time.  My mother told me everything.  I will tell you.  The Shah met my grandfather.  For some reason, he had a fight with the Guru.  He died in battle, quickly.  My father remained and got money from the Shah.  He worked for the Shah.  He worked till Aurangzeb.  My father’s age was complete and he died.  I got his job then.  I received the same salary as my father.  I took the same amount.”  After some time, he got up and did the Salaam.  Guru ji gave him 5 Rajitpuns by the hands of the treasurer.  He was happy to receive the reward.  The Singhs sitting by wanted to see what Guru ji was thinking.  The Pathaan spoke very unorthodox things.  They folded their hands and said: “you have said that we are to see the Turks as our enemies.  Your command is steady like a mountain is steady, despite a wind storm.  You are giving respect to this Pathaan.  You make him sit with you and give him a lot of love.  You play Chauper with him and reward him.  You accept his Salaams by looking towards him.  The Singhs are confused seeing this.  This a new behaviour of yours we are seeing.”  Sri Guru ji, the Mine or Virtues, laughed out loud and spoke to everyone with respect: “listen Khalsa to a task of mine: I have a big task to be done for me from his hands.  His grandfather (Painday Khan) was a great warrior.  The Guru (Guru Hargobind Sahib ji) kept him in his own home in a great way.  He gave him greatness in battle.  The Guru then swung his own Shamshir on him.  For this reason, I have compassion for him.  He is the son (from the family of Painday Khan) and therefore I have love for him.”  He said this to the Singhs and they were satisfied with the response.  Satguru ji gave his servants hope without fault.  Guru ji’s ways were beautiful which couldn’t be comprehended.  He destroyed the pains and problems of his servants.

It was night and so everyone ate and went to sleep with joy.  Guru ji woke up at Amritvela and did his daily cleansing routines.  He then sat in Dyana of the blissful form of the Aatma.  When the sun rose, Guru ji opened his lotus eyes.  He wore his clothes and weapons on his body.  He sat within the Khalsa.  At around 10 am, Prabhoo ji would eat with the Singhs.  In the afternoon he would rest.  At around 3 pm, Guru ji would have the Sukha along with the Afeem and then bathed again.

2-18 Gul Khan Stabs Guru ji with a Jamdara

In Pali Village, two wise Sikhs of the Guru lived there.  They had a deep love for Guru ji and wished for his Darshan.  The two Sikhs came to Sri Prabhoo ji.  They brought two beautiful Jamdaras (Kataars) for Guru ji.  The hilts had gold and gems on them.  They shined.  Faulaad metal was used as the blade.  Satguru ji tested them and noticed that the edges were quite sharp.  Guru ji was really happy with them.  He fulfilled the wishes of the Sikhs.  He blessed them with a lot of joy.

During this time, the Pathaan came to see Guru ji.  He came in front of Guru ji and bowed his head.  Guru ji had him seated next to him with respect.  Guru ji gave the Kataar into the hand of Gul Khan.  He said: “Gul Khan, look if you stab an enemy with this, would they die?  If you hit an enemy, would it just injure them or kill them?  If you strike the enemy, will they be able to strike back at you?  Tell me.”  The Pathaan heard this and said: “if I would have such a Jamdara in my hands, I would use my strength to do a strike and won’t let the enemy take a second breath.  The metal is of a very high standard.  The finger can’t touch the edge.  You don’t need to strike the enemy many times.  Only one strike will kill the enemy.”  Guru ji kept the Kataar with him.  He then called for the Chauper board to play with Gul Khan.  They played and threw the dice.  The pawns moved.  They made the plays to kill the pawns.  When Guru ji killed a pawn of Gul Khan, Guru ji said: “the one who does not take the revenge of his father or grandfather, they should be spat on their face.  To have a weapon in hand; the enemy in front; the one who doesn’t kill is a bad son.”  Gul Khan heard this and became upset.  He got angry and thought that he was being taunted: “his grandfather killed my grandfather on the battlefield and sent him to the Home of the Jumms.  He is thinking of this and taunting me.  What is the reason he is saying this?  I don’t understand.  What he is saying is true though.  The son who does not take the revenge is a bad son.”  He thought of all this but wasn’t thinking of killing Guru ji.  They played one or two games and stopped.  The board was picked up.  Guru ji then spoke again: “if the weapon is in hand and the enemy is in front, only the bad son can’t kill the enemy.  The ones who are of good families, they don’t lose the opportunity.  They quickly kill their enemies.”  The Pathaan heard this and became really angry.  It was like teasing a sleeping snake; like a killer elephant poked with a spear; like a lion hit with a rock; the Pathaan began to take deep breaths in anger.  He kept thinking near Guru ji.  He then saw it was time to leave.  He got up in anger and did his Salaam with only his eyes.  He couldn’t look at Guru ji in the eyes.  He turned his face quickly.  Guru ji had the Pathaan receive a reward.  He took 5 Rajitpuns and went home.

Gul Khan was drowning in a huge river of worry.  He came to his mother and sat down.  He didn’t say anything to her.  He felt defeated in his mind.  His mother asked: “son, why do you look worried?  What task of yours is spoiled?  Your face doesn’t look the same as before.  You look worried.  Where is your mind?”  Gul Khan heard his mother and spoke of what happened: “we sons of Pathaans are filled with anger.  Sri Guru ji spoke of the past.  He pierced me with his words.  He pierced my heart and made a hole.  I began to think as I played.  He spoke of revenge many times.”  The mother heard this and stopped him.  She saw him speak of killing.  She said: “let the Guru say what he wishes to say.  They have always been raising us.  If he says something, don’t get angry.  Speak sweet words.  Take joy from the Guru.  You are young still.  Live your life well.  If you spoil it with the Guru, the many Singhs will kill you right away.  He likes you though.  Look how much money he gives to you.  He’s probably joking with you.  Don’t get angry.”  The mother spoke to calm her son down but his mind was not at peace.  As he slept, he kept thinking about it.  Guru ji’s words hurt him.  He got up at night.  Guru ji said: “I spit on the birth, many times, who does not take revenge for their elders.”

The Pathaan got up in the morning and ate.  In the afternoon, when it was around 3 pm, he came to Guru ji and did the Salaam.  Destiny inspired him for the Darshan.  Sri Prabhoo ji respected him and had him sit next to him.  He praised him: “the Khans do not run away from the battlefield.  When they fight, they do not love their lives.  They can’t tolerate bitter words.  When the time comes, they kill the enemy in their court whet they have the weapons.”  Such words motivated the Pathaan.  Guru ji then called for the Chauper board.  Guru ji killed the Khan’s pawns and spoke bitter words: “the one who does not take revenge for their father and grandfather, their life should be spat on.  They are cowards.  The one who is afraid to die, they are damned.  Why did a mother give birth to such a coward?  Such a person cannot be a son of a warrior whose heart can be compared to cowards.  The one who lives their life, their life should be spat on.  If they carry weapons and are afraid of dying, their life is damned.”  Guru ji taunted him in this way.  Guru ji made him angrier.  When it was around 6 pm, the Khan wanted to go home.  The Chauper was stopped.  Gul Khan was losing his patience.  He was planning on how to kill Guru ji.  He slowly held his sword and was thinking of how to kill Guru ji.  He looked around to see what the Singhs were doing.  He thought to himself: “I will kill him when he is alone today.”

After the Ardaas of So Dar, everyone bowed to Guru ji and went to their homes.  The Singhs began to complete the tasks such as feeding the horses and cleaning up.  As the Pathaan got up, Guru ji made him sit.  Guru ji then laid down on his bed.  He took a Kataar in his hand and said: “Gul Khan, come close and test this Kataar; how expensive is it?”  Guru ji took the Kataar and gave it to Gul Khan.  He began to motivate him: “the son who takes revenge for his father or grandfather, they pay off their debt.  If they meet the enemy alone and they have a weapon in hand; if they still don’t kill the enemy, you should spit in their face.  Their life is damned and cursed.”  Guru ji said this and closed his eyes.  It was as though the effect of the Afeem came upon him.  Gul Khan started to think of his opportunity to kill.  It was dark and the Divas were lit.  He noticed that Guru ji’s eyes were closed and he wasn’t looking.  There were no Singhs close by.  He had a sharp Jamdara in his hand that was unsheathed.  He looked around in fear.  During this time, Guru ji opened his lotus eyes and saw the Pathaan standing by him.  Guru ji said: “if you get the chance to kill the enemy and miss it, it does not come again.  They will be depressed like a coward.  I spit on such a pathetic person’s life.”  The Master said this, over and over again.  He kept closing his eyes, over and over again.  He motivated Gul Khan, over and over again.  Gul Khan had every opportunity he needed.  He had the unsheathed Jamdara in his hand.  He looked to see an opportunity to strike the Prabhoo.  He aimed at Guru ji’s heart but it was a miss.  It didn’t stab him.  He had gotten scared and his hands trembled while he struck.  Not a single scratch was on Guru ji’s body.  He saw Guru ji alone and struck a second time right away, it hit Guru ji under his arm.  It didn’t pierce Guru ji again.  He then struck a third time and hit Guru ji in the abdomen.  It was a deep cut.  Satguru ji got angry and grabbed the second Kataar.  Sri Prabhoo ji struck him as soon as the third strike happened.  Guru ji sliced the Pathaan’s abdomen open.  Guru ji then spoke in a loud voice: “is there a Singh near me?”  The Singhs heard and came right away.  The Singhs came with unsheathed swords.  Bhai Lakha Singh ji saw the Pathaan and swung his sword with all his might.  Gul Khan’s head rolled off his body.  A lot of noise erupted right away.  Prabhoo ji said: “he was already dead, why did you strike with your Kharag?”

(Historians have also stated that the brother of Gul Khan, Uttola Khan, was there as well.  It is said that Bhai Lakha Singh ji had taken Uttola Khan’s head off.)

2-19 Stitching the Wound

In the past, he didn’t let the shadow of a Turk come close to him; but now that he had a task with the Turk, he was giving him a lot of respect.  Nobody could understand what drama Guru ji had played.  He took the strike of the Jamdara by the hand of the Pathaan.  Gul Khan was on the floor.  Nobody could see Guru ji’s wound in the dark.  When Bhai Santokh Singh ji went close to Guru ji, he saw the flow of blood.  Guru ji’s white Jama was red with blood.  The sheet on the bed was also red with blood.  Jathedaar Santokh Singh ji said: “Maharaj!  Look at your body!  You are bleeding!  Your clothes are drenched with blood.  You are still patient like a great warrior.  You aren’t acknowledging the wound.”  The Khalsa heard this and all came to Guru ji.  They saw the wound on Guru ji after removing his clothing.  They yelled: “Prabhoo ji, the wound is very deep!  The Jamdara cut you deep.  We see this.  What is this drama you are playing?  You kept this Turk with you everyday.  No Singh was in your presence today but you kept this Turk with you.  You would say everyday “don’t trust the Turks.”  What is this that you did then?  You took a deep wound from the Khan.”  Bhai Santokh Singh ji and other Singhs looked at Guru ji and were in pain.  To give them hope, Guru ji said: “Akaal Purakh has protected me.  Don’t worry about anything in your mind.  The wound is small.  Sri Asket ji is with me.  The Khan had an old anger with me and struck me.  He had hatred from a long time ago.  He thought of it and hit me.  The Sixth Guru was a great home of power.  He killed Gul Khan’s grandfather in battle.  Gul Khan heard of the past and was looking for a chance for revenge.  Akaal Purakh was my protector.  The wound is small from the Jamdara.  I took the second Jamdara and struck him.  I didn’t let him go.  I killed him.”  The Singhs heard this and brought water, right away.  They wiped the wound with water and then brought a hot pin.  They stitched the wound with a silk thread.  They sewed it slowly.  They tied a bandage on top.  The bed sheets were changed.  Guru ji ate food as much as he wanted to.  Guru ji slept the night.

In the morning, the Khalsa wrote a letter to Bahadhur Shah.  The letter was read to Bahadhur Shah, who wasn’t too far away.  The Shah heard the letter and said: “what has happened?”  He was surprised.  He called for surgeons who were the best.  He gave them strong horses to go to Guru ji right away.  He said to them: “make him well right away!”  The surgeons came quickly on their horses.  They came to Guru ji and bowed their heads.  They opened up the wound to analyse it.  They stitched up the wound and treated it.  The Shah wrote a Parwana and condemned the Pathaans and their families.  He asked Guru ji in a letter: “if it be your command, I will have all their hands cut; or I will board them in a ship and drown them in deep waters.”  This letter came to Guru ji.  Guru ji heard it and was compassionate.  He said: “I had this task done from them.  Don’t see them as guilty.”  Guru ji sent the response right away.  Guru ji’s praises of compassion spread far and wide: “the Satguru is compassionate upon the corrupt.  He is compassionate and with great patience.”  The Shah sent the wisest surgeons.  They stayed with Prabhoo ji to cure him.  They used a great bandage and ointment that cured the wound in a few days.  The wound healed in 15 days.  Guru ji bathed after 15 days.  He wore new clothes and sat.  He gave his Darshan as he did before.  All of the Khalsa came to him.  They bowed their heads and were in bliss seeing Guru ji.  Everyone heard of Guru ji’s news and came to meet him who were nearby.  A lot of Panchamrit was made.  A big celebration was held.  Everyone was happy.  A lot of money and Siropas were called and given to the surgeons.  The surgeons were really happy to receive the money and Siropas.  They praised Guru ji as they left.  They went to the Shah and told him of what the update was: “he gave us a lot of money as gifts.  We can live with ease for the rest of our lives.”  The surgeons went to Delhi and praised Guru ji.  They were inspired by Guru ji’s great form and personality.

Guru ji was then in attention.  The 16th day came.  Guru ji sat in the court in the morning.  He sat like Kuber, radiant.  Two great bows of 9 Tonkas, a craftsman brought them to the court.  Guru ji saw them and was really happy to receive them.  Guru ji gave the craftsman a lot of money for rewards.  Guru ji kept his weapons on a bed close to him.  He worshipped them with flowers, Dhoop and sandalwood essences.  The two bows were placed among the other Shasters.  The bows looked really big and strong.

It was soon the Masya of the Kathak month.  The Deepmala was performed in every home.  Ghee Divas were lit in a great way.  Many types of Deepak Malas were done.  In the home of Guru ji, there were Jots all around his seat.  The Divas were really bright, making the night look like day.  Panchamrit was prepared.  A great celebration happened which gave joy to all.  The day was done.  The next day was Kathak Sudhi 1st.  The day was done as well.  On the 2nd of Kathak Sudhi, Yamma went to his sister, Yamuna’s home to eat food.  This was the day known as Bhaya Dooj or Jamdutiya.  Sisters would put Tilaks on the foreheads of their brothers on this day to mark the occasion.  Guru ji had a beautiful tent pitched up.  Two Chobas were set in the tent.  The four sides were tied up.  Colourful rugs were laid out.  Guru ji came into the tent.  Guards were seated at a distance.  Guru ji said: “stand guard for 3 hours.  Nobody is to come inside the tent.”  He set a strict guard set up and came inside the tent.  A great brightness illuminated in the sky at that time.  Everyone saw this and were amazed.  It was really bright.  Two beings had come from the Heavens to do the Darshan of Guru ji.  They bowed to Guru ji.  Guru ji had them sit close to him with respect.  Guru ji spoke to them about pleasantries.  The two beings gave Guru ji a letter.  Guru ji took the letter with joy.  He opened it up right away.  The letters were of otherworldly ink.  Guru ji read the letter and understood.  The two beings spoke to the Bhagwant: “Prabhoo ji, come to Vaikunth now.  All of your work is done here now.  If you wish to stay here, oh Compassionate One, you can stay here and bless the people here.  We have told you the command of Akaal Purakh but it is up to you what you wish to do.  The Karta Purakh Akaal is compassionate.  You are the Great Son of the Great Father.  You pulled the roots of the corrupt Turks and created the Great Panth Khalsa.  You gave a straight path to the world.  You illuminated the Simran of Karta Purakh.  You fought many great battles with anger and destroyed many great warriors.  You killed many sinners and corrupt people, one by one.”  Guru ji heard this and said to them: “I have already made preparations to go.  What the command of Akaal Purakh is, I accept him on my head and obey it.”  In this way, he had the conversations with the two beings.  The two beings bowed and left in the same way.  Bhagwant ji stayed alone in the tent for 3 hours and then came out.  His face was glowing like a lotus.  His eyes were huge like the petals of a lotus flower.  His heart was in 4 times the bliss.  He sat within everyone with double the radiance.

2-20 The Stitches Breaking

Bahadhur Shah called two of his Umraavs with respect and wanted to send them to get news of Guru ji’s progress.  They were sent to get news of the progress of Guru ji’s wound.  The Umraavs rode elephants along with some soldiers and came to Abchalnagar.  Some army came with them.  The Umraavs were eager to do Guru ji’s Darshan.  They came quickly and arrived in Abchalnagar with the army.  They saw a nice place along the river and set up camp.  They saw the pure water flowing and set up their tents.  They sent a messenger to Guru ji, informing him of their arrival.  The messenger said to Guru ji: “the Shah has sent two Umraavs.  They came to see how you were doing and they wished for your Darshan.”  Guru ji commanded for grass and food for the Umraavs.  Many types of items of need were sent.  The Umraavs ate as much as they needed.  They were tired from the long journey so they rested that day.

When it was evening, the Umraavs got ready.  Guru ji sent a messenger to call the Umraavs.  The Umraavs then came to meet Guru ji.  They took some wise and trusted men along with them.  Prabhoo ji’s Divaan was in session.  Multi-coloured rugs were laid out in the court.  The Khalsa was there with their weapons fastened.  They had rifles, bows and shields with them.  The Umraavs saw Guru ji from far away and bowed to offer their Salaam.  Their names were called out and Guru ji had them sit close to him.  The Umraavs folded their hands and said: “his highness has sent us to you.  We have come to see the progress of your wound.  We were happy to hear that you have taken a bath after many days.  The Shah was worried and wanted to know how you were doing.  Look at the low act these fools did.  The Shah had all his Pathaan companions called.  He punished them and interrogated them.  They were put under oath of the Quran.  They said: “we had no news of Gul Khan’s plan.  The boy was unwise of the Guru’s greatness.”  The boy did a bad thing and was punished along with it.”  Sri Guru ji heard this and said: “what Akaal Purakh ji wanted to happen, had occurred.  Nothing can happen without his command.  He does everything he wishes to, within the humans.  Tell the Shah that I am in peace.  The wound has cured and there is no danger.”  Guru ji and the Umraavs had discussions for some time.  The day was only an hour left.  Guru ji’s weapons were close by on another throne.  There was a canopy over the Shasters.  The two new bows were placed on the throne as well.  The Umraavs saw the new thick bows.  They saw the huge and thick bows and were amazed.  They were thick and strong.  They wondered: “who has the strength to pull these bows?  Look how thick the musht is.  The string looks like rock.  These Guru Peers keep these types of weapons to show off.  They can’t be used.  They must be for show.  They are definitely to show off to people so they think the Guru is omnipotent.  The people then give many types of gifts while worshiping them.  Otherwise there is no way anyone can pull this bow.  Humans don’t have that kind of strength.  Maybe a Farishta may use his strength to pull this bow.  In this world, there is no man that can pull this bow.  To fire arrows from this bow, there is no one.”  The Umraavs thought of these things in their minds.  They kept looking and doubting.  Sri Satguru ji, the Omniscient One, understood the doubts of the Umraavs: “they think I am a hypocrite and that these bows are kept here for show.  These Umraavs have never seen the battles of Anandpur or Chamkaur.  They haven’t seen how many I killed with my arrows.  I’ve killed 10 with one arrow.  The biggest enemies were killed at once when they were hit.  I should show them my strength otherwise they will tell others that this was just hypocrisy.”  Guru ji thought of all this in his heart.  Guru ji picked up both bows.  He picked both mushts in his left hand and grabbed both bowstrings with his right hand.  He pulled both bowstrings to his ear.  The strings made waving noises as they were pulled.  He pulled them about 3 times.  He was showing this to all.  As he pulled them, a lot of his strength was used.  Guru ji didn’t care for his wound which was not fully healed.  The stitches on his wound broke.  Blood came gushing out which drenched his clothes.  The wound stretched and was wider than before.  Guru ji quickly saw his clothes.  The Singhs were shocked and yelled out in pain: “what is this?”  The Umraavs stood and folded their hands.  They said: “Sri Prabhoo ji, why did you do this?”  They were given leave by gifting them Siropas.

It was evening and so the Divas were lit.  It was Monday, the Jamdutiya day.  With great effort, the wound was sewn up again.  The night was spent.  The Kathak Suddhi 3rd came.  Guru ji commanded: “take 500 Rajitpuns from the treasury and prepare Karah Prashaad from it.  Get sandalwood of 100 Rajitpuns.  Bring the items needed for the pyre.  Obey my command and don’t delay.  Do the Simran of Kartaar and stay in joy.  Make food from today.  Tomorrow is Wednesday the 4th of Kathak Suddhi.  Give delicious food to all and have a great Bhoj.  Every Singh is to make the effort together.  Use more money for ghee and sweets.  Get nuts, flour and other foods.”  The Langar was started.  They cooked all night to the next day.  Many purays and Pooriyas were made.  Many foods were made and kept.  Kachoris and a lot of pakoras were made.  Masalas were put in the yoghurt to make Raita.  Guru ji said: “don’t delay.  Everyone go and do the work.  Go to the city and buy what you need.”  Bhai Jodha Singh ji and Bhai Dharam Singh ji along with Bhai Santokh Singh ji and others heard all this.  They took money and went to the city.  They bought all of the items of need.  They had many bundles tied and picked up.  They were taken to Abchalnagar.  Huge pots were on the fire.  A lot of Pakvaans were made.  They bathed and made the food with purity.  Everyone was worried: “Guru ji wishes to go to Baikunth.  Who will be our Master now?  Whose Darshan will we do for joy?”  Many heard of Guru ji’s deep wound.  People saw it and were upset.  They tried to treat the wound with bandages.  Two Chaurs were being waived around Guru ji.

The third day of Katha Suddhi was over.  The Pakvaans were made all night long.  Everyone worked together for this.  The food piled up till morning.  Everyone bathed and did their daily routines.  Sri Guru ji commanded: “people of the 4 castes and the 4 Ashrams, call them all and have them sit.  Don’t delay.  Have them eat food.”  The command was heard and everyone sent the messages to the cities.  They told everyone and invited them: “come to eat food in the huge Yagna.  The food is ready.  Don’t delay.  Come now.”  The Sadhoos and Fakirs heard this.  The Ateets, Brahmins and others came with love.  They said: “the one who eats the food of the Guru’s home, their body and mind become pure.”  The people of all castes and Ashrams came to eat.  Other types of Sadhoos came to Abchalnagar.  A great crowd gathered.  One would come to do Darshan and one would go.  One would come and sit in the Pangat.
