6-51 Noora Mahi Continues the Telling of Events
Noora Mahi continued: “Wajeed Khan came out of his palace and came to his court. Many generals and officers were seated in the court. Listen Prabhoo ji, a Sikh told me of the whole events that occurred. I asked many people to find out what happened. As I heard it, I will tell you Guru ji. The big court of Mughals and Pathaan was in session. They were all seated in the court. Many other officers were there. Hindus, Kshatriyas and Baaniyas came. Many other curious people came to see the spectacle. The court was crowded. Many people were in the court. Many were standing. The Sooba sat on his throne. The Rangars of Morinda, Jaani Khan and Maani Khani came. The Sooba looked at them and said: “where the sons of the Guru are seated, from there, bring them here. Speak to them sweetly and with respect. Give them hope and bring them here.” The Sardars of Morinda heard this and went to the Tanda Burj.
Baba Zorawar Singh ji and Baba Fateh Singh ji were sitting in their grandmother’s lap. Mata ji had them covered with her chunni. The Khans said: “listen Mai, everyone is in the court of the Navaab. They all want to see the sons of the Guru. They have called for them.” Mata ji heard this and felt a chill in her heart. She was upset. She said to the Rangar: “the sons of the Guru were with him. I don’t know what happened to them. These two are my adopted sons. I have raised them myself.” The Rangar went back to the court and said: “the Mai says those kids are her adopted sons. The Guru’s sons were with him.” Sucha Nand, a corrupt Kshatriya, was sitting in the Turk court. He was a Divaan. He wanted to marry his daughter to Baba Ajeet Singh ji but the proposal was not accepted. He got into a fight for this reason and had enmity with Guru ji. When he heard the Rangar speak, he spoke harshly: “her son destroyed the Emperor’s armies and killed Lakhs of our soldiers. Didn’t the mother think of our people? She didn’t think of her grandsons then. Now she is scared and saying the kids are her adopted sons. They are the sons of the Guru.” Wajeed Khan said: “go again. Bring the sons of the Guru here. Tell the Mata that they are being called in the court. We won’t say anything else. We will send the boys back.”
The Rangar came back to Mata ji and said: “the Navaab wishes to see the kids. He will see them and send them back. The whole court wants to see them.” Both grandsons were sitting in Mata ji’s lap. Mata ji had both of the kids covered with her shawl. It was very cold. She was keeping them warm as the sinners did not give them any blankets. Mata ji was hugging the boys. She shed tears. Baba Zorawar Singh ji got up and came into attention. He lifted the shawl from his body and said while standing up: “Dadi ji, why are you upset? We have always been enemies with the Turks. If we don’t go, it won’t be right. It is right for us to go.” Baba Zorawar Singh ji took Baba Fateh Singh ji’s hand and set off. They were like 2 moons. They were very beautiful. They were handsome and had very sharp facial features. They looked like they were chiselled from the moon. Their eyes were beautiful. They were very fair-skinned. Baba Zorawar Singh ji was about 8 years old and Baba Fateh Singh Sahib ji was about 6 years old. They were very young. Both had a beautiful radiance to their bodies. They wore expensive Zarri Cholas with Dumaalaas and Kalgi Toras. They were beautiful without jewellery. Both warriors moved forward. The Rangars walked behind them.
The Sahibzadas soon came to the court. The Rangar said to the Sahibzadas: “oh Sahibzadas, your father was surrounded and killed in the Chamkaur Fort. Both of your brothers were also killed. The Singhs with them all died. There is nobody to protect you now because nobody survived. This Navaab you see in front of you; he is a great Sooba. Bow to him and give him a Salaam. He won’t kill you. He will save you. If you bow your head, you will remain alive.” Baba Zorawar Singh ji stood up straight and proud hearing this. He spoke out loud for all to hear: “Sri Satguru ji who is our father, who in this world can kill him? Just as nobody can kill the sky; nobody can dispel a storm; nobody can move the Sumer Mountain; nobody can catch the sun or moon; our father cannot be killed. Akaal Kirpaloo Karta Purakh is the supreme. It is the death of Death. We have given our heads to him. He is the omnipotent and capable Being in every way. He is the Master of the Universe. These people you see in front of you are all slaves of their own desires. They are sinners and do not honour their oaths. They are sinners and have accumulated a lot of sins. How can we bow our heads in front of him?” The whole court heard this and were surprised: “how do these kids know these things? They are milk-drinking kids. What did they ruin for anyone else? They don’t know what conflict and truce is.” Sucha Nand Kshatriya, the fool, got angry and spoke in the court for all to hear: “these kids are the snakelets of a snake! They are filled with poison from their toenails to their heads. They are very bad. They aren’t giving you a Salaam, Navaab ji. They have no fear, seeing everyone in the court. They have a lot of ego in their hearts. How will they bow to you?” Wajeed Khan then said: “your brothers and your father are no more. Come into our Deen-e-Islam now. Accept the Turk Shariya. We will give you greatness. You will get elephants, horses and a lot of wealth. The Emperor will keep you close to him. He will raise you and complete your wishes. He will give you villages to rule. You will have an army as well. Just as I rule, you will also live in joy.” Baba Zorawar Singh ji heard this and got angry. He asked his younger brother, Baba Fateh Singh Sahib ji: “I can see that the time has come that we were waiting for. The time that came upon Guru Pitamah (Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib ji) ji has come upon us as well. It is good to stay simple and as we are. Tell me what’s your opinion, brother?” Baba Fateh Singh Sahib ji spoke: “just as our Pitamah ji kept his Dharam, he is praised in the whole world; he did a great event in all 3 Loks; we are faced with the same situation. We should do the same thing. Let’s give our heads and destroy the root of the Turks. The Hindu Dharma will become awake then. The body (and the world) is eventually going to die. If they are going to cross the limit of tyranny, we will surpass the limit of patience. To bring our Pitamah into the Deen, they tried to convince him a lot. The Flag of the Dharma did not wobble. He was patient. He slapped the head of the Turks with his shoe. We will show the same event in the world. Keep your mind strong. Don’t wobble. Our family is the highest, we are the descendants of Guru Ramdas ji, which is the supreme. We will keep the honour of our family.” When Baba Zorawar Singh ji heard his younger brother’s patient words, he spoke with anger in his eyes: “we slap the head of your Shariya with our shoes! We will never corrupt our Dharma! This is the tradition of our family! We will give our heads but not our Dharma! To pull your roots, we won’t be afraid to give our heads! You sinner fools, why are you in doubt? We aren’t greedy for the garbage pleasures of the world. The Dharma is the Truth! It is always with us. Which fool would corrupt the Dharma? The sin that you did towards the elder Guru ji, this is the fire that will burn the roots of the Turks. We will give our heads and fuel the fire even more. It will burn you to ashes. It won’t take long.” Hearing Baba Zorawar Singh ji’s words, the Hindus and Turks were shocked: “why wouldn’t they speak such words of bravery? They are the sons of Guru Gobind Singh ji, the Satguru. His words give the highest status.” The Sikh Sangat and the Hindus said: “Dhan, Dhan!” The Turks heard this and were burning in their hearts. They couldn’t tolerate the words of the Sahibzadas like the Juvasa burning from the rain. Khan Wajeed was filled with anger and widened his eyes as he spoke: “they aren’t afraid! Look how they speak such harsh words! I will have them killed now!” He made this decision in anger.”
6-52 Noora Mahi Continues the Telling of Events/ The Shaheedi of the Sahibzadas
Noora Mahi continued: “the Kshatriya Jhoota Nand (the Khalsa refers to Sucha Nana as “Jhoota Nand”) said to the Navaab: “look at how they are speaking! They aren’t afraid and they aren’t folding their hands to you. When they grow up, they will be exactly like their father, who destroyed lakhs of our armies. They will raise revolts against the country. How would they bow their heads? They are now caught. They are under your command. Make sure they don’t get away. There is no solution for them. Command someone to kill them.” In the court, the Navaab of Malerkotla, Sher Mohammad Khan, was also present. When he heard that the decision to kill the children was being made, he spoke up: “these children are milk-drinking kids! What is their fault? They don’t know of gain or loss.” The sinner Navaab Wajeed Khan (Wazir Khan was referred to as Wajeeda or Wajeed Khan by the Khalsa) heard this and began to look around. He wanted to see who would kill the kids. Nobody agreed to taking the task: “we can’t kill these kids.” The Navaab looked right. People lowered their heads. He looked left. Those people also lowered their heads. Nobody agreed to the task. There was a person named Banchal Beg who was a Gilja from the west. The Navaab said to him: “take these kids and cut their heads off! They can’t be kept. They will cause chaos in the land.” The Gilja heard this and took the Sahibzadas away from the court. The sinner was without compassion. He was a fool. He pulled his sword out. The sons of the Guru stood with courage. They had no weakness in their heart. They wanted to give their heads for the Dharma. They wanted to destroy the roots of the Turks. They remembered the events of their Pitamah, grandfather, Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib ji. They wanted to keep the honour of their family. The sinner, Banchal Beg, swung his sword and cut the head of Sahibzada Baba Zorawar Singh ji. With the second swing of his sword, he cut the head of Sahibzada Baba Fateh Singh ji (in other historical accounts, they were bricked alive and/or had their limbs cut off along with their heads). Shock and condemnation spread throughout the world. The world shook. The 3 Loks lost their balance. The Devatas shouted out Jaikaras in the names of the youngest Shaheeds ever: “Dhan are the sons of the Guru! Their courage was supreme. They gave their heads for the Dharma! They were young and were arrested. How could they have such courage at such a young age? They pulled the roots of the Turks. They are both going to Sach Khand to the Guru with bliss. They stained the honour of all the Turk families. They took the kingdom and radiance of the Turks (Guru Nanak Dev ji had told Babar that he would give 7 heads and take back the kingdom if the Turks went against the Guru’s home: Guru Arjan Dev ji, Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib ji, Mata Goojri ji, Sahibzada Baba Ajeet Singh ji, Sahibzada Baba Jujhar Singh ji, Sahibzada Baba Zorawar Singh ji and Sahibzada Baba Fateh Singh Sahib ji).
All of the Hindus and Turks there were cursing at Jhoota Nand Khatri: “this sinner is a Chandaal! He had no compassion seeing the children.” The Sikh Sangat was yelling out in condemnation. They were Sahijdhaaris. They said: “the root of the Turks will be uprooted.” A Sikh, Bhai Todar Mal ji, was a very rich person. When he heard that the Sahibzadas were arrested, he thought to himself: “I will give money and bail the children out. I will take them to where Guru ji is after. I will be given the greatness of the world. Money will be gone one day. Guru ji will give me the status of immortality.” He left his home quickly but when he came to the court, he was in pain. He heard of the Shaheedi of the Sahibzadas from others. People were upset from the news. Bhai Todar Mal ji was really upset. There was chaos in the area. The earth shook with an earthquake. A storm came that made stones fly. The wind was wild. There was dust flying into everyone’s eyes. The vultures circled the city, shrieking. There were bad omens everywhere. People heard thunder but there were no clouds. Everyone was in regret. The wise ones had discussions: “this is a very bad thing that happened. Some very bad storm will come. The Turks will undoubtedly be destroyed. Their bad actions have been noticed.” Bhai Todar Mal ji saw all the bad omens. He saw the people crying. He was in pain.
Bhai Todar Mal ji went to where Mata ji was. He ran to the Tanda Burj. Mata Goojri ji was really worried. She was waiting for her grandsons: “when will my kids come back to me? I don’t know how long we will have to stay here. I don’t know how we will be released. I don’t know when I will see my son again in joy. How will I be in joy again in life?” She had to send her precious grandsons off and sit there all alone. There was no one she knew there. “My grandsons have gone to the Turk court. When will they come back?” She was worried in this way. Bhai Todar Mal ji came to her. He folded his hands and bowed to her. He cried and became helpless. He couldn’t speak because his throat swelled up with emotion. Seeing his state, Mata ji got really worried. She said: “oh Bhai, who are you? Why are you so upset?” Bhai Todar Mal ji said: “what are you asking me? I saw the two sons of the Guru being killed. I am still alive. My chest didn’t burst. I am harder than rocks. I am the unfortunate one who came to give you the bad news. Why didn’t I die with the Guru’s sons? I was ready to sell my whole house and give all my wealth to save them. I wanted to have the Sahibzadas released. I would have done what it took to get them out. There is nothing I can do now. What can I say? My Sikhi did not pass.” Mata ji heard these words which were like arrows from a bow. The arrows hit Mata ji’s heart, piercing them. Her teeth clenched and here face went pale with pain. Her body stiffened up. Her mouth dried up. It was like someone cut the root of the banana tree. Mata ji trembled and fainted. She fell unconscious. She lost awareness. Bhai Todar Mal ji felt a deep pain. He went to care for Mata ji and helped her stay up. He had her sit up and fanned her with his shawl. When Mata ji came back to her senses, she remembered her children and said: “where are my grandsons? Son, Zorawar Singh, why didn’t you take me with you? Why did you leave before me? How can I live without you? I want to die right now.” Mata ji said to Bhai Todar Mal ji: “if you are a good Sikh of the Guru, help me end my life. I want to be with my two grandsons. I will go with them.” She spoke with pain. She went to the wall of the Tanda Burj and began banging her head against it. Bhai Todar Mal ji couldn’t watch her pain. He ran to Mata ji and held her to sit up straight. A lot of blood poured from Mata ji’s forehead as she had ripped it open by banging her head against the wall. Seeing Mata ji anxious and upset, Bhai Todar Mal ji was also in extreme anxiety. He said to Mata ji: “my ring has a diamond in it. If I give it to you, that is bad. If I don’t give it to you, you will be in pain. You will give your body a lot of pain to leave it. You will suffer for a long time.” Mata ji said: “give me the diamond. You won’t be guilty of it. Give it to me so I can end my life.” Bhai Todar Mal ji decided to give her the diamond. He took the diamond out and gave it to Mata ji. Mata ji swallowed the diamond and after a while, she left her body. She met the Sahibzadas in the Realm of Guru ji (in other historical accounts, she fell from the Tanda Burj or she banged her head against the wall. There are other accounts where she left her body by using Yoga Agni).
Bhai Todar Mal ji performed the cremations of all 3 by selling all his assets and buying the ground by placing golden coins on it. The Sooba’s conditions were to price the land by golden coins covering it. The ashes were put into pots and buried there by all of the Sikhs. Listen Guru ji, this is the whole telling of the events. An eye witness Sikh told me everything. I told you what happened. I’ll tell you what happened to Gangu Bahman as well. The Turks found out that he had the golden Dinars. They sent soldiers to his home and arrested his whole family. They beat everyone up and asked where the money was. Where the money was buried, the Turks couldn’t find it. The Shaheeds had made the money disappear. Gangu was beaten to death. He was punished for his actions, right away.”
Satguru ji, Guru Gobind Singh ji, was sitting on the bed. His feet were on the ground. There was Kahi plant (sedge grass) in front of him. As Guru ji was listening, he had a Kard (or an arrow in other historical accounts) in his hand and was scratching away at the root of the Kahi plant. Guru ji heard the whole telling of the events with attention. He then asked the Mahi: “where the court of the Turks was, did anyone else appose besides the Malerkotla Navaab? Was there anyone else who had compassion towards the children?” Noora Mahi folded his hands and said: “I inquired further. Only the Navaab of Malerkotla called them “innocent milk-drinking kids.” He said it without hatred (as he knew you had killed his brothers).” Sri Guru ji said: “now (since they have no compassion towards young children) the Turks will be destroyed. Only the root of the Malerkotlas will remain. The roots of the other Turks will be burnt.” After saying this, he cut the root of the Kahi plant with his Kard. The plant was uprooted. Guru ji spoke further: “just as I cut and uprooted this plant, that is how the Turks will be uprooted. They will be destroyed very soon. Everyone will be surprised to see this drama unfold.” Guru ji gave this curse in deep anger. He was in Bir Ras. He pulled the roots of the kingdom and radiance of the Turks. He said: “a grave sin has occurred in Sirhind. The city will be ruined and destroyed! The people of the city will suffer great pain! My Sikhs will destroy the city and its people! They will take its rule and its wealth!”
[It was Poh the 13th when the younger Sahibzadas and Mata Goojri became Shaheeds. The four Sahibzadas gave their heads like their grandfather, Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib ji, to uproot the kingdom of the Turks, which was immovable. The Tapasya of the Turks made it impossible to destroy their radiance but it was the Sahibzadas’ blood that accomplished this necessary task. A regime that can kill children without any remorse, giving the justification of religion and rebellion suppression; is a regime that had become cancerous. The blindfold of Shariya had made the country and its people sick. There would be no economical, societal or cultural growth from this.
Mata Goojri ji lived in the Brahm Gyaan. She served her father-in-law, Guru Hargobind Sahib ji, and her husband, Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib ji. She was the great mother that gave birth to the mighty Guru Gobind Singh ji. Mata Jeeto ji had left for Sach Khand very early. She was the mother of Baba Jujhar Singh ji, Baba Zorawar Singh ji and Baba Fateh Singh ji. The younger Sahibzadas were very young when their mother left her body. They had only known Mata Goojri ji as their mother. She raised them. Many arguments can be made towards the Brahmgyaan state and Mata Goojri ji’s deep sorrow of not wishing to live further but truly, to raise the great Sahibzadas and then seeing them leave this earth before you; that life cannot be worth living. Mata Jeeto ji had left her body early for this very reason. After all, the true state of Brahm Gyaan is not that overlooks all sorrows but that can feel every sorrow of every life form in the universe. Mata Goojri ji was a Brahmgyaani whose Darshan would dispel all pain and sorrow. The Sangat would come to bow for her blessings in Anandpur as her words would also become reality, obeyed by nature, Devatas and Jachs.]
6-53 Rai Kalla is Given a Kirpan/ Arriving in Deena
Hearing the curse that Guru ji said, Rai Kalla ji became concerned. He thought to himself: “I am born a Turk. My root will be uprooted as well. I remained seated with my hands folded and didn’t save my kingdom from Guru ji. I still have time to save it.” Rai Kalla ji folded his hands, sitting with his 300 men. He stood up and said: “Sri Prabhoo ji, please be merciful with me. I am your servant from the beginning. I have no love for the Turks. I am your Sikh from the beginning. I don’t follow the Turks. Please don’t include me among the Turks. Keep me separate and save me from your curse.” Sri Guru ji said: “you should have said something before. You should have spoken to me about yourself before. When I said the curse, I could have saved you. I would have separated you from the Turks.” Rai Kalla ji said: “I didn’t know you were going to say something like that in anger. I come to your shelter! Keep my honour seeing me as your servant! Save me! Protect my kingdom and radiance! I seek your sanctuary!” Sri Guru ji said to Rai Kalla ji: “what is going to become reality, how can that be erased? What is going to happen, will happen. That is what Akaal Purakh made me say. The roots of the Turks will be uprooted. They committed sins everyday and have reached their end. Their Nagaras will not sound. Their Nagaras and their Nagara players will be destroyed. Their radiance will be taken away. Their kingdom is 2,100 Kos wide and have the crown of being Chakravarti. In a very short time, they will be destroyed. Their livelihood will become difficult from day-to-day. The Turks did an unforgivable and atrocious act in Sirhind of killing the Sahibzadas. The Sirhind that is scattered over many Kos; which is home to the richest people of the land and their huge mansions; the foundations of those homes will be destroyed. The city will become farmland in the future. Those bricks will be thrown into the river by my Singhs. This will be the result of their actions. It will be known as Fatehgarh Sahib instead of Sirhind. The kingdom of the Turks will be destroyed.” Rai Kalla ji heard the words two times from Guru ji. He became helpless and thought: “he is angry now. He won’t bless me. I should go with him and stay seated beside him everyday. I will serve him and his horse with my army. When he is happy with me, the great being will bless me some day.” Rai Kalla ji spoke out loud to his people: “go to your homes and make preparations. Bring your children and women along. Bring everyone. Keep them with you wherever we go. Otherwise somebody will loot your homes. They will take our land with their strength. They will dishonour our women, holding their braids and swearing at them. They will kick them out of the homes. We will stay with Sri Satguru ji from now on. The time will be difficult on us. Where he stays, we will stay. Wherever he goes, we will go. When he forgives us with compassion, we will come back then and live in our homes.” Satguru ji heard these words and noticed that Rai Kalla ji trusted his words. The Ocean of Compassion became compassionate. To bless Rai Kalla ji, he spoke: “Rai, you are forcing me. You want to keep your root.” Guru ji picked up his pillow and picked up one of his swords. The sword was made in Genova, Italy. The sword had the stamp on it. Guru ji held the sword and said: “I will give you my beautiful sword that I wear in my Gatra. Till you respect this sword, your family will remain and your kingdom will be big. If you stop doing its Pooja or stop respecting it; or if someone wears it; your family and kingdom will be destroyed that same day. Nothing will remain. This is the truth.” Hearing this, Rai Kalla ji bowed and extended his hands to receive the Kirpan. He said: “Give this to me Satguru ji. I will worship it forever. I will never disrespect it.” Rai Kalla ji was really happy. He received the beautiful and expensive Kharag. He thought to himself: “this sword will give me strength and a greater kingdom. My family will flourish. This power will protect us.” He looked at Sri Guru ji’s lotus feet and bowed to them, over and over again. He kissed Guru ji’s feet. He stood with his hands folded and said: “command me to do your Seva.” Sri Guru ji said: “I wish to go further. You should go back to your home. In the Jungle Desh, my Sikhs live there. I will spend my time there now. I have no wish of any Seva. I have no need for anything so what should I tell you to do?” Guru ji had his bed raised. Rai Kalla ji and his whole army bowed their heads.
Guru ji headed towards Jungle Desh (Malva). The Chaur was being waived over his head by Bhai Daya Singh ji. It was the peacock Chaur. They soon reached a village and Guru ji had the bed rested under a Beri tree. They all washed up and rested. After a while they continued their travels. They were close to Jungle. They rested another night. They met a Singh there. He recognized Guru ji in the disguise of a Hazi. He came close and bowed his head. He had a strong and beautiful horse that was fast and clever. The Singh folded his hands and gifted the horse to Guru ji. He spoke with his hands folded: “Guru ji, please ride this horse and leave the bed.” Sri Prabhoo ji accepted the horse and mounted it (Some historians name the Singh as Bhai Nagaheea Singh. This place was near Alamgir Gurduara).
Deena Village was close by. It was founded within the Kangar area. Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib ji had met Bhai Jodh Rai ji here. Bhai Jodh ji took his army of 1,000 men with Guru ji to fight the army of Lalla Beg. He fought the battle. The son of Guru Arjan Dev ji was really happy with that Sikh. Bhai Jodh Rai ji showed his strength to make Guru ji happy. Bhai Jodh Rai ji’s 3 grandsons ruled the area when Guru Gobind Singh ji came. They lived in Deena, coming out of Kangar. Their names were Shameer, Lakhmeer and Takhat Mal, the wise. Everyone in the area obeyed their commands. They were big landlords. The farmers saw them as the highest. A person came to them and told them about Guru ji’s arrival. He said to them: “the one who fought the Turk armies, Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji, he is coming here. He is very close to our village. Who knows where he wishes to go. Who knows where he will settle. You should go and meet him with all your men.” Bhai Shameer ji and his brother Bhai Lakhmeer ji got ready. They gathered many men and went on ahead to welcome Guru ji. They brought fruits and sweets. They brought flower garlands and came 2 Kos ahead to meet Guru ji. They brought many types of gifts. Guru ji came on his horse. He was wearing a blue Chola with blue Chadras. The brothers came and held the reins of Guru ji’s horse. They bowed to Guru ji’s feet. They touched Guru ji’s feet. They bowed and touched his feet on their heads. Guru ji asked the brothers how they were. They responded: “by your blessings, we are great. Please come to our home. Come and rest. You have travelled far. Make our villages and our homes pure. We have been your Sikhs from the beginning. Our father and grandfather were your servants. They made Guru ji happy. He destroyed our pain.” Guru ji heard this and spoke quickly to test them: “I am in conflict with the Turks. I have fought many huge battles with them. They are the rulers and you are their subjects. You can’t fight them. You fear them and can’t measure up to their strength. How will you take me to your home?” The brothers folded their hands and said: “we now come to your sanctuary. Bless us and make our homes pure. Your ways are unique. We have been your servants for many generations. We don’t fear anyone for doing your Seva. We have always met the Sikhs of the Guru. Nobody can stop us from doing this. Please complete our wish and come to our home. You are the Merciful One. You destroy pains and problems. If such a time comes where we have to fight, we will be on your side and destroy the enemy. We will never leave your side. We will wage battle on the Turks.” Guru ji, the Gareeb Nivaaj, the wise, heard their requests. He was happy with warriors. He went to their home. The villagers followed.
They all came to Chaudhary Shameer ji’s village. The men and women all came to do Guru ji’s Darshan. The homes were made of mud. Chaudhary Shameer looked around for a good place for Guru ji to stay. They couldn’t take Guru ji to their own homes as everyone would know about Guru ji’s arrival. There was a home that belonged to a Tarkhaan there. The Tarkhaan had a Chabarra made in his home. Guru ji liked that place. The place was smeared with pure materials. The place was prepared with a nice bed in the middle. White sheets were laid out. Guru ji got off his horse and came into the home. He sat in the home, dressed as a Peer. The 3 Singhs were with Guru ji. The people of the village heard of Guru ji’s arrival and were happy. They came to do Guru ji’s Darshan. They brought gifts and bowed. They said: “we are fortunate that Sri Guru ji has come. He blessed us and destroyed our pains and obstacles.” Many people came to sit. There was a huge crowd. Men and women did his Darshan and sat down. They brough milk and other sweets. The Singhs ate. They had discussions with Guru ji of various types. They praised Satguru ji. In this way, it was soon evening. The men and women went to their homes.
6-54 Rai Kalla’s Descendants
When Guru ji gave his Talwar to Rai Kalla ji, listen oh listeners to the history that happened afterwards. Listen with love. I will say it now. Rai Kalla ji was happy as he came home. He laid out a beautiful bed and covered it with beautiful and expensive sheets. He brought all of the items needed for Pooja and worshiped the Talwar. He brought Attars, flowers, sandalwood and other fragrant perfumes. He lit incenses and did the Aarti of the sword. He sprinkled sandalwood essence everywhere. He saw the sword as Guru ji himself. The Kharag was kept on the new and beautiful bed. The Rai did its Pooja with faith and devotion. He would light a ghee Diva beside it everyday. He put flower garlands on it everyday. He hung a canopy above the sword. In the colder months, the Rai had a blanket made of Kheen Khaaf and put it over the sword. He would light a fire for heat in the room. He would wave a beautiful Chaur over the Kirpan. In the hot months, he would put a Banarsi Dupatta over the sword. He sprinkled many types of Attars and did the Pooja everyday with love. He would wave fans. He had a lot of love for the Guru’s sword. After living like this his whole life, he left his body when his time came. After him, his son sat on his Ghaddi. He had love and devotion for Guru ji’s sword, just like his father. He did its Pooja in various ways and bowed his head with faith and devotion. He also did this for the rest of his life and died when his time came. The grandson of Rai Kalla ji sat on the Ghaddi next. He began to do the Sangat of Maulanas and Qazis by which his faith and devotion began to diminish towards Guru ji’s sword. When the Turks would meet him, they would cast doubts: “why are you following the traditions of the Kafirs? You were Sikhs of a Hindu Guru. You refrained from the Shariya for many generations. You will go to the Dojak (Hell) after you die. You will be punished during the Kyaamat. Why are you worshiping an iron idol of a Kafir? This is against the Shariya. Why don’t you wear the sword? It’s a beautiful sword. You are a king. Wear it. Instead, you keep it on a bed and worship it.” In this way, they convinced the Rai’s grandson. The grandson eventually put the sword on even after his grandmother told him not to. He put on the sword and went hunting on his horse. How would he stop? He was influenced by death. The Rai’s grandson went close to a lake when he saw a deer come out. He made his army stay back and went ahead to kill the deer. He was filled with ego and made his horse run fast. He was alone as he rode. When he came close to the deer, he took out Guru ji’s sword from its sheath. He swung the sword but the deer jumped ahead and escaped the swing. The sword hit him on his thigh. It was a strong and clean cut. His thigh muscle and thigh bone were cut but a part of his leg was still attached to his body. He fell from his horse as his horse stood over him. He fell on the sword which stabbed him in his side. His army came looking for him and yelled: “hai, hai,” when they found him. Other people gathered. The cut-up Rai was seen. The people put the Rai’s body in a palanquin and took him home. He bled to death by the time he came home. I was very young when I heard of this news. I heard: “the Rai was cut by the sword of Guru ji when the Rai went hunting in the jungle. His family and radiance were uprooted by this act of defiance. The words of the Satguru became true. The enemy saw this with their own eyes. I saw this with my own eyes and heard it with my own ears. The whole world saw this. The kingdom had no other heir.
Listen to the Katha of Guru ji as it happened. Guru ji came to Deena, where Bhai Rai Jodh ji lived during Guru Hargobind Sahib ji’s time. Bhai Jodh Rai ji’s grandsons served Guru ji with love. The villagers and Sikh Sangat around the area all came to do Guru Gobind Singh ji’s Darshan. Sangat from far away came. They brought many gifts with their hands folded. They came with joy. They said: “Dhan is the Guru who killed Lakhs of enemies in battle! The Sahibzadas died on the battlefield and went to Sach Khand! Guru ji had no attachment towards his sons. His mind is calm and peaceful. He is always in the single state. He is the highest form of Brahmgyaan and courageous warrior. He is the Atirathi who killed the mightiest enemy.” The people brought clothes and money. Big and small horses were brought that were already saddled. After some time, a lot of money gathered and so servants were kept too. Guru ji would go hunting with his new followers and servants. The Brars of Bhai Kala ji’s family came and enlisted in his army. The news spread to other lands and so people came to Malva to stay with Guru ji. The people with faith and devotion came with love in their hearts for Guru ji’s Darshan. This is where Guru ji uttered the Shabad “Lakhi Jungle Khalsa.” It was in regards to the Sangat of Malva that came to meet with him. Great crowds gathered as people came for the benefit of Guru ji’s Darshan.
About 8 Kos away was the village, Bhai Roopa. Bhai Roopa ji and Bhai Sadhoo ji were Guru Hargobind Sahib ji’s great Sikhs who were Tarkhans. They made Guru ji happy with their Bhagti. In the heat of the noon of a day in the month of Jeth, both father and son went to go cut wood. Their container of water was cooled by the wind, hanging in a tree. They deemed the water only suitable for Guru Hargobind Sahib ji. Guru ji was 30 Kos away. They wanted to call Guru ji, who was laying down on a bed in a cool room in a beautiful home. Guru ji saw the love in the Sikhs’ hearts and set off on his horse alone. He travelled 30 Kos in the heat to drink the water, leaving the pleasures of the cool home in the blink of an eye. He came to the jungle and acted like a thirsty person. The Tarkhan father and son heard the calling of a thirsty person and recognized Guru ji. They gave Guru ji the cool water. Guru ji drank the water with joy and said: “start making Langar and leave your Tarkhan work.” Prabhoo ji blessed them. The Tarkhan father and son have been doing Satsangat since then and serving Langar in their home. Bhai Roopa ji had 2 sons: Bhai Param Singh ji and Bhai Dharam Singh ji. They heard of Guru ji’s arrival and they heard of the great battles Guru ji fought. They also heard of the 4 Sahibzadas going to Sach Khand. They were shocked to hear this news. Their hearts were filled with great anger hearing this. Bhai Param Singh ji and Bhai Dharam Singh ji were great Bhagats. They came for Guru ji’s Darshan with love. They came with other Sikhs, singing Shabads on the way. They sang Joti Shabads, taking turns. They came to Deena in this way. They sang out loud with a lot of love. They grabbed Guru ji’s lotus feet. They shed tears, meeting Guru ji. The two brothers washed Guru ji’s feet with their tears. They brought beautiful clothes for Guru ji. They were white cholas made of fine cloths. They brought a strong and clever horse along with money for Guru ji. They brought weapons. They cried saying: “hai, hai! You did a unique drama. The Sahibzadas died! This is such a shock to us! Prabhoo, they were such good sons who were so handsome. Their Japp, Tapp and charity was unmatched. Nobody can achieve such sons with thousands of years of Japp, Tapp and charity. They were so young. They died in front of you. When they wore their royal clothes and jewellery, they looked so good. Millions of monies, gold, jewellery, the weapons in the treasury, Parshaadi Haathi and other expensive items; the thousands of horses in the stables; Dal Bidhaar and Dal Shingaar; royalty, the wealth that couldn’t be counted; was all destroyed, all at once. We don’t see any of it anymore. Sri Prabhoo ji, we regret all of this. The Sikhs are upset seeing this state. You are alone. What is this drama that you played? This can put a lot of people in a state of illusion and doubt.” Sri Satguru ji heard this and saw their sorrow. He said: “the way of the world is that all items in this world can be destroyed right away. Whatever is created, sooner or later, they cease to exist one day. They don’t stay for forever. The Gyaanis don’t wish for them. Only the existence of the Aatma is true, forever. It is not created nor destroyed. It is immortal. Understand that it is your real form. This will reveal the unending illuminance to you once you see it. The Gyaanis don’t regret or enjoy the false items, destined for destruction in this world. The Gyaanis are always in the single state of mind. They remain connected to the Aatma. Just as lines drawn in the sand have no gain or loss, that is the state of the Satgurus, seeing the items of the world. Understand this, wise ones. I did this drama to uproot the roots of the Turks. That is done now. The Sahibzadas are my form. They can’t be killed. They are immortal. They are always in bliss, even as we speak. They had no attachment in their minds. Not even a little bit. Why should I mourn for them who are always in the state of bliss and transcend the worldly and otherworldly realms?” Bhai Param Singh ji and Bhai Dharam Singh ji heard this and gained a bit of hope. They still had a little doubt, though, as to why Guru ji lost all his money and wealth. They both folded their hands and said: “please wear this new Chola that we have brought. Take off the blue clothes and wear white now.” Satguru ji saw their faith and wore the white chola. He blessed his servants. Guru ji took off the blue clothes of Peers and wore the new chola. Everyone did the Darshan of Guru ji. Men and women were all happy to see him. The family of Bhai Roopa ji sat for some time. They then bowed and went back to their homes. They praised Guru ji as they left: “he lost so much but still has not a lace of sorrow. His beloved sons died and all of his wealth is gone. He is not in any regret or conflict.”
6-55 Dharam Singh (Roopa) meets a Shaheed Singh/ Shameer
The next day, Bhai Dharam Singh and Bhai Param Singh ji had great food prepared with love. They set off for Guru ji’s Darshan with the Langar. Some Sikhs came with Bhai Dharam Singh ji. Some went ahead and some left after. Bhai Dharam Singh ji was eager and left alone. After some time, he looked right and left and wished for another Sikh to be with him. He wanted someone to go with him. He then looked back and saw a Singh coming behind him. He thought to himself: “he’s going to Guru ji. We should walk together.” He stopped walking and waited for the Singh. The Singh’s form was unique. When Bhai Dharam Singh ji saw him before, the Singh’s clothes were white. They then turned yellow when he looked again. He walked ahead and looked back again; the Singh’s clothes turned blue. He noticed the height of the Singh changed as well. The Singh had red clothes now. He met Bhai Dharam Singh ji and said the Fateh to each other. Bhai Dharam Singh ji stood and met the Singh with love. The powerful Sikh of the Guru spoke: “why are you standing? You should be moving. Where are you going?” Bhai Dharam Singh ji spoke: “I am going to meet Satguru ji. Everyone went on ahead. I saw you and so I stopped for you. Tell me about yourself. You have been showing me unique traits. You are powerful. You are radiant. I know you are a Singh of the Guru. Where are you going? Tell me.” The Shaheed Singh said: “listen Bhai, your elders, Bhai Sadhoo ji and Bhai Roopa ji served Guru ji well and earned Seva. Guru ji came to them, seeing them as his Sikhs. He travelled many lands to give them his Darshan. I am giving you my Darshan for that reason as well. I am always in the presence of Guru ji. There a Lakhs of us who can go anywhere and we have the capability of doing anything. We Shaheeds are in the millions. We can control the whole universe by Guru ji’s power that he’s given us. 5,000 of us take turns to stay in Guru Gobind Singh ji’s presence. We are always by his bedside. Other Shaheeds are always under his command. As Guru ji commands us, we obey. I am one of those great Sikhs.” Bhai Dharam Singh ji had a doubt in his heart from before. He thought to himself: “Guru ji is omnipotent and can do anything he wishes but his whole family died. He couldn’t even save one of his sons. He lost all of his wealth and royalty. He is left alone and he came to Jungle Desh in our area with effort.” Bhai Dharam Singh ji asked the Shaheed Singh about his doubt: “you are very powerful and stay with Guru ji all the time. You didn’t save anything of Guru ji. Everything was gone. His sons, wealth, army, Singhs and servants were all destroyed. What was the reason for this? This is my doubt. The Turks fought big battles and gave problems to Guru ji.” The Shaheed Singh said: “the ones who are limited and not wise, how can they understand the omnipotent being? In his previous birth, the Devi said to him: “let go of your attachment towards your sons. In Kaliyuga, I will be by your side. You will receive your wish (the Khalsa will receive the radiance of the world).” Gayatri was also angry with him as she felt she was disrespected. She gave a curse because Guru ji didn’t accept her in the Panth. When Chandi appeared in front of Guru ji, she was not given a gift. Guru ji promised her the sacrifice of 100,000 Singhs and his 4 sons in return for the uprooting of the great kingdom of the Turks and to establish the Kingdom of the Khalsa. Guru ji made the Turks do this sin to make them guilty. They had not honoured the rights of any other religion in their land. They needed to be uprooted. Guru ji did all this to destroy the kingdom and radiance of the Turks. Their courts will be gone now. Their radiance will be gone. Their Nagaras will not play now so where will their armies be? The kingdom you see in the world, it will no longer be seen. There are many other great reasons that people cannot understand. What doubt can you cast on the Omnipotent Being? The ones who doubt are unwise and without faith and devotion. They will endure pain in many ways. They will never see joy. I alone can destroy all of the kingdoms of the Turks in the world. I can destroy the whole universe. There are millions like me who stay with the Satguru. We stand in front of him with our hands folded and say: “Prabhoo ji, please command us!” He never gives us the permission. He tells us to stay as we are. Millions and billions of Shaheeds obey his commands. They can make anything they want to in the blink of an eye. They are omnipotent.” Bhai Dharam Singh ji was embarrassed for his doubt in his heart: “I doubted the Omnipotent Satguru. I am limited. I doubted him.” He folded his hands and said: “Dhan Dhan Gurudev. His wishes are so big. Nobody can know his ways.” He than asked the Shaheed Singh: “how big is your body? Are you this size or can you make yourself bigger and smaller? You are very powerful. You destroyed my doubts and so you are like my Guru. I am blessed to hear your words.” The Shaheed Singh said: “listen, I can make my body as I need it. We can become bigger than the world that scares the humans. I have told you this because you are a Sikh from the beginning. If you wish to see my huge form, I can show you.” The Shaheed Singh made his form really big. He spread over many Kos. His arms were many miles long. His head was out of this world. It was the Varaat form of Ishwar as Shaheed Singhs are Brahmgyaanis and the same as Ishwar Brahm. Bhai Dharam Singh ji got scared seeing the huge and scary form of the Shaheed Singh. He folded his hands, bowed his head and said: “you are Dhan! I have understood that you are limitless. The indestructible Satguru Prabhoo is greater than great.” After showing his powers, the Shaheed Singh came back to his good size. Bhai Dharam Singh ji travelled on with a pure heart now. His doubts towards Guru ji were gone after seeing the Shaheed Singh.
Bhai Dharam Singh and Bhai Param Singh met Guru ji and bowed. They placed the food they had prepared in front of Guru ji. Guru ji saw his Sikhs and commanded: “distribute this food to the Sikhs.” The Singhs obeyed and distributed the food. Everyone ate the food. The Sikh Sangat heard of Guru ji’s arrival and came to meet him. Only Chaudhary Shameer knew where Guru ji was sitting. He would screen the Sikhs before taking them to Guru ji. Everyone had to meet Chaudhary Shameer first. They would say: “take us to Satguru ji.” Chaudhary Shameer would bring everyone to his home and give them food to eat. He would secretly go to Guru ji to inform him of who came. He would get permission and take the Sikhs with him to Guru ji. A lot of Sikh Sangats came from all 4 directions. They came and bowed to Guru ji.
In the family of Bhai Roopa ji was a person named Baba Guddhar Singh ji. He was a very powerful and radiant Singh. [Baba Guddhar Singh ji was the one who saved Maharaj Ranjit Singh ji’s mother when she was born. He said to her father: “the lion of Punjab will be born from her.”] His father was Baba Dyaal Das ji who was a powerful Brahmgyaani. When he found out of Guru ji’s arrival, he came to meet him with Chaudhary Shameer ji. He received permission and came to see Guru ji. There was another Tarkhan with him who also bowed. He placed a chola of fine cloth in front of Guru ji. Guru ji asked how everyone was. Bhai Dyaal Das ji sat with Guru ji for a while. They had discussions. Guru ji was happy with Chaudhary Shameer ji’s Seva. He would prepare food and water for Guru ji all the time. He would bring the food with love. He stood with his hands folded while Guru ji ate. He would quickly do the tasks that Guru ji commanded. Guru ji was happy and said: “your horses will spread far. You will rule a big land. Dyaal Das gave me a new Chola. I want you to say “Satnam” and wear this Chola. After wearing the Chola, mount your horse and take it as far as you want to. Your kingdom will be as big as the area you take your horse to now. In the future, your family and rule will be big.” Chaudhary Shameer ji was happy. He took the Chola and came home to tell them of Guru ji’s boon. He said to his brothers: “our kingdom will be huge.” The brothers had a Mamma who was a Bemukh from Sikhi and followed the Panj Peeree. The brothers all obeyed their Mamma. The Mamma said: “what are you saying? You don’t know what you are saying. The home, wealth, sons and everything the Guru had has been destroyed. He says from his mouth whatever he feels like. You think its true. What kingdom will he give you? What does he have? You know this very well.” Lakhmeer spoke: “if we don’t believe him, he will get angry. He will get angry and curse us.” Takhat Mal, the third brother said: “we have served him. We don’t want anything to go wrong while we are serving him for blessings.” Chaudhary Shameer heard everyone and then said: “we shouldn’t disobey his words. We shouldn’t lie to him either.” The Mamma then said: “our villages are in every direction. Take your horse in our area. You will obey him and you won’t feel tired.” Chaudhary Shameer wore the Chola and mounted his horse. He travelled around his villages. When he came to Guru ji, he said: “Prabhoo ji, I took my horse in every direction.” Guru ji, the Omniscient One, sensed that Chaudhary Shameer’s Mamma was a fool and he didn’t let his nephews have a big kingdom. He did a very bad thing for them. Prabhoo ji said: “you did good. Sit down Shameer.” Guru ji wanted to give them a bigger kingdom but the brothers were only good for their villages. Chaudhary Shameer and Lakhmeer both sat with Guru ji. Guru ji saw them as his servants and was compassionate towards them. Their Pitamah had served him as Guru Hargobind Sahib ji. Guru ji had a deep love for them.
