5-6 Roaming the Maalvih Mountain
The Pahari Rajas all came to the Mela at Rewalsar. They bathed in the Sarovar and gave donations. Their horses were decorated with golden saddles which they donated. They donated elephants, clothes, weapons and money. The Rajas gave a lot of donations. The Mela went on for 3 days. Men and women were happy to see this. The Rajas and the ministers came to Guru ji after the Mela. Guru ji gave everyone a Siropa. They all bowed and went to their homes. They all praised Guru ji on their way home. They reached their homes as their wishes were fulfilled.
Guru ji stayed in Rewalsar after the Mela. He would bathe in the Sarovar everyday and hunt in the jungles. He would roam the mountains and hunt wild animals. There were many types of trees and gardens in the mountains. The plants were full of fruits. The Khalsa would go with Guru ji. They would explore new areas everyday.
One day, the master went quite far into the hunt. He went up really high mountains. There was a mountain named Maalvih Parbhat. The mountain was beautiful. Guru ji went towards the peak. He told the Khalsa and Sangat to go back. He didn’t want others to go with him. He said: “either stay here or go back to the Dhera. 5 Singhs will come with me.” The 5 Singhs were Bhai Daya Singh ji Brahmgyaani, Bhai Uday Singh ji, the warrior, Bhai Aalam Singh ji-on foot, Bhai Mokham Singh ji and Bhai Sahib Singh ji, who was carrying a gun. The 5 Singhs climbed the mountain while the rest were told to go home. Guru ji got off his horse and walked up the mountain. It was a steep climb upwards. At the top of the mountain, Guru ji stood and could see in all 4 directions. There was as Ghandeela roaming around who was not wearing any clothes. Ghandeelas were jungle-dwellers who believed they were the rulers of the land. They swore an oath only to wear clothes when they win their kingdom back. This Ghandeela was no ordinary person though. He was a powerful person. He saw Guru ji’s handsome form and quickly came and grabbed Guru ji’s feet. He folded his hands and stood up in front of Guru ji. Kalgidhar ji looked at him and said: “how do you know me and why did you bow to me? Who are you? Where do you live? Tell me the truth. Where did you come from? Where are you going?” The Ghandeela smiled and folded his hands. He spoke: “why do you not recognize me? You are omniscient. You are the giver of peace and joy. Satguru ji, listen to my Katha: I will tell you my past. I am Rewa’s son. My name is Rewal. The Teerath is named after me from Satyuga. This is my land. My mother told me to do Tapasya. She told me I can achieve anything by Tapasya. “Every achievement requires Tapasya. Every person who has achieved greatness and praise, they had done some sort of Tapasya. Tapp is the rarest thing on earth. Tapp has the greatest powers. Vishnu ji and Brahma ji love Tapasya. The other Devatas love Tapasya. Mahadev’s always doing Tapp, day and night. When Brahma was created out of Vishnu’s belly button, Vishnu ji was in Yog Nindra. Brahma was on lotus flower. The Akaash Vaani said to him: “without Tapp, you are without power. No one can be strong without Tapp. If you want great powers, do Tapasya for a very long time.” Brahma did Tapasya for a long time and then received powers to create the world. Out of the Devatas and humans, Brahma, Vishnu and Shivji are the greatest. They had to do Tapasya. If they had to, what else can we say about others? For this reason, son, do a great Tapp.” I listened to my mother and did Tapasya. I have done Tapp since Satyuga in the Uttarakhand. I spent 3 Yugas doing Tapp. Brahma ji came to me after 3 Yugas. He stood in front of me and gave me his Darshan. I praised him when he came. I bowed to his feet. He was happy with me and said: “oh son of the Naags, you have done a great Tapasya. Ask for a boon.” I folded my hands and said what was in my heart: “I wish to have the wealth of kings. I want to be a king.” Brahma ji said: “so it shall be.” Brahma called Vishwakarma and told him to create a city in my name. He created the city of Mandi but was called Mandip first. I was coronated king. I ruled the kingdom and won many lands. I ruled with power. I ruled for 63 Yugas in bliss by defeating the demons. I then fought the Juchs. I killed thousands of Juchs. Metal clanked with metal. Many died. Many battles were fought. Millions attacked and fought hard. Many of my enemies got together and killed me. My kingdom was conquered. Where I sat before and did Tapasya, this became a teerath known as Rewalsar. Many plants that are here, they can be seen floating on water. The mountains float on water here. Till Nehkalank Avatar doesn’t come here, I will remain here. You have blessed me by giving me your Darshan. You are the human warrior Avatar of Parmeshwar. You came with all of the powers of Akaal Purakh. You are the supreme Avatar. You will kill all the sinners. I seek your sanctuary. I want all of my troubles to go away. Help me. Bless me. See me as you servant and help me. All of the Devatas and demons, they are under your command. Whoever doesn’t follow you, is killed by your radiance. Your command is on everyone. Speak to my enemies, the Juchs. Use your powers to sway them. Destroy our conflict. End the fight.”
Guru ji heard Rewal and saw that he was in his sanctuary now. Guru ji took an arrow from his quiver and mounted it on his bow. Guru ji pulled the arrow to his ear. The string of Guru ji’s bow stretched made a loud noise that made the mountains tremble. It was a very scary noise. Everyone heard the noise. A shouting noise came from the mountains: “protect us! We are under your protection!” Another man appeared in front of Guru ji. The man had dreadlocks all over his body. He was the leader of the Juchs. He was wearing deerskin on his body. His eyes were red. His limbs were big and strong. He had a big beard with dreadlocks. He bowed and said while folding his hands: “Prabhoo ji, it is not your time to come here yet. Please think about this. Go back to your Dhera. Come at a later time when your Panth spreads in the world. The pious and strong Khalsa, when they spread on the earth, come then. You should come and do a Dhera in Rewalsar again. My name is Sarad-dhaar Juch. I am the leader of the Juch. We fight the Naags. Sometimes they win and sometimes we win. Please don’t take sides in our war. Our fight is ancient. We bow to you too. You belong to all of us. When you come to our home, do a Dhera with your 96 Krori Shaheeds. we will give you 10,000 armies to join your Panth. Whatever you ask us to do, we will do. We will kill the enemies of the Khalsa. This will happen. You already know about this. You are our support. Bless us Bhagwan.”
5-7 Resolving the Feud between the Naags and the Juchs on Maalvih
The leader of Juchs told Guru ji his state. Guru ji heard him. Guru ji, drenched in Bir Ras, was going to speak to the two to resolve their conflict. Guru ji spoke with radiant victory: “the Turks have an unlimited army in the world. They are the rulers right now. They have many forts, weapons warriors and wealth. They are undefeated. Aurangzeb has used his power to tax and punish anyone. He does what he pleases. Aurangzeb is a tyrant. The Pahari Rajas are his servants. The Badshah commands them as he pleases. He seems to have no opponent. He has destroyed all of his enemies. I have come to kill all of them. I can kill them all with one arrow. No soldier would survive. One arrow would be enough to destroy everything. In Kaliyuga, we are to follow the will of Akaal Purakh. I am in human form and the tradition in Kaliyuga is not to show any powers. Everyone should live in the will of Akaal Purakh and obey the human rules. This law should not be broken. The sinners will all die in time. There won’t be any Turk Nagaras left.” Rewal heard Guru ji’s words. He came into Bir Ras and said: “I will come with an “anikani” army of 2187 elephants, 2187 chariots, 6561 horses and 10,935 foot soldiers when you fight. My army will be very dangerous. They will be poisonous black cobras. Oh father, they will be the same colour. When the time of war comes, I will fight the enemy from your side. I will win the Gandharva Desh and fight alongside the Khalsa. The Turk army will be mixed into the dust. None shall survive. I will rule for 50 years. I will be praised all the way to the ocean. The progeny of “Kapeesh Gandhrab” will come to Hindustan and conquer it. The corrupted ones will run away. The Khalsa Panth will not finish. The Khalsa will be radiant. I will marry a woman named Madna. My children will be strong. When they become the kings, I will let go of my body. There will be a big war after I’m gone. The population will fight. One of my sons will rule to Kamghar. The Teerath of Delhi, Prayaag, and the east, my son will rule till there and be radiant. He will be praised. The great river of Sindh, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej, my son will rule that also. My second son’s kingdom will be big as well. He will rule Kashmir and the west. He will call himself “Aalmi.” After saying this, Rewal went quiet.
Sard-dhaar said to Guru ji: “what is your command for me? The king of wealth, Kuber, what orders do you have for him? He has sent me to serve you. I will give your message to Kuber. I will tell him what you tell me. The Juchs are under your command. You can take me with you to Anandpur and I can speak to you there.” Guru ji said to him: “Sard-dhaar, go back to Alkapuri and tell Kuber: there are more battles to fight in Anandpur and then in Chamkaur. I will then fight at Mukatsar. The Hindu Dharma will be re-established. Many Turks will be killed. The Khalsa and Turks will fight. I will kill the Turks. Aurangzeb is the biggest of the Turks. I will kill him with my words. I will go to the Deccan then. From there, I will go to Sach Khand.” Guru ji then said to Rewal: “get rid of your enmity with the Juchs. Your fight has no benefits. You fought for many years. Stop fighting. You will all get your kingdoms when the time comes. You will be in joy and live with all the pleasures. You are fighting for no reason. It is useless. Let go of your hatred for each other.” Guru ji spoke to both. He made both of them hug each other. They called a truce. Guru ji said to Sard-dhaar: “go and tell Kuber to not hate the Naags. Tell him to obey my command and call a truce. Don’t fight for no reason.” Rewal then said: “I accept your words. I won’t be the first to start a fight. If the Juchs don’t discard their ego, then I won’t stay quiet.” Guru ji said: “Kuber will obey my words. He won’t defy me. If you listen to me, so will the Juchs. The Juchs will listen to me better. Kuber will obey me.” A truce was called. Rewal was very happy. He folded his hands and said: “one year will be very troublesome for you. A lot of problems and battles will be upon you. You will face a very difficult time. I will come to see you. I will tell you the reason for these problems: Gayatri is the mother of the Vedas and the Shastras. Gayatri is upset with you. Gayatri says: “Guru ji has disrespected me. He didn’t use my Mantra in his Panth. He didn’t give me a place in his Panth. Guru ji didn’t give the wisdom of Gayatri to his Panth. Nobody in his Panth reads my Mantra. Guru Gobind Singh ji made the Maryada. He saved the Hindu Dharma but forgot about me. I curse him that he will face great trouble for one year.” Oh ocean of wisdom, this is the reason. You gave the Khalsa the Pahul of the Khanda to create them. You took it yourself but didn’t give the Gayatri Mantra to anyone. She says that you didn’t include her. She is angry after thinking about this. Guru ji, stay alert. The curse of the Gayatri is like this. I will keep coming to see you. I will listen to your words and talk to you.” In this way, Rewal and the Juch went back to their place after bowing to Guru ji’s feet. They went to their places. Sard-dhaar went to Alkapuri and told Kuber the message of Guru ji. Kuber heard this and was happy. He let go of his hatred towards the Naags. They met each other with love.
In this way, the discussion of Maalvih Mountain happened. Satguru ji and the 5 Singhs came down the mountain. They came back to their camp. The 4 Sahibzadas were happy to see Guru ji. They were happy to see the Teerath and the Mela. Mata Gujri ji bathed in the Sarovar. She donated a lot of gold and Silver. Mata Jeeto ji give a lot of donations. She gave money to the beggars. Everyone was happy there. Guru ji’s glory spread. They all spent many days in Rewalsar. Guru ji would roam the mountains and come home at night. He then gave out the command to leave Rewalsar. The Ranjit Nagara sounded and the Khalsa mobilized to leave. They travelled the ways through the mountains. Mata Gujri ji travelled on her palanquin along with the 3 wives of Guru ji. They all headed towards Anandpur.
5-8 Setting up the Dhera with the King of Mandi
The Raja of Mandi, Raja Sidh Sen, was informed: “Guru ji is still in Rewalsar. His army is with him.” The Raja of Mandi thought to himself: “Guru ji will travel this way. I should ask him to come to my home before going to Anandpur. I will bring him with me and have him set up a Dhera in my city. I will serve him with devotion and love. He will make my life and afterlife peaceful. Whatever he says, I will obey him. The whole world obeys his words.” The Raja stopped thinking and headed towards Guru ji’s Dhera. He had faith and devotion in his heart. He wanted to see him. He set off with a few soldiers.
As the Raja of Mandi travelled, Guru ji had already set off from Rewalsar and met him on the way. The Raja was happy to meet Guru ji. He got off his horse and went close to Guru ji. He bowed to Guru ji’s feet. He folded his hands and said: “I had heard that you were still here and wanted to ask you to come to my city. I hoped you were travelling this way. My home will become pure. You are omniscient and already knew what I wanted. You travelled this way already. You know what every heart is thinking. You complete the tasks of the Sikhs. Please step foot in my city and make it pure.” Sri Prabhoo ji said: “I came this way because I wanted to come to your city. Mount your horse and lead the way. I will come behind you slowly.” The Raja said: “Prabhoo ji, I will come behind you. You should lead the way. I will set up your Dhera and then go to my home.” The Raja got on his horse and walked along with the Vaheer with Guru ji. He had many conversations of politics, spirituality and war with Guru ji.
Evening came and they had reached the Beas River. They all dismounted their horses as it was time for Shaheedi Degh. The Sevadaars set up tarps and rugs. The Sukha was prepared. The Raja came off his horse and sat with Guru ji. There were Singhs everywhere. The Singhs were up and down the mountain. The Shaheedi Degh and Chatterdhaara were presented and consumed. Guru ji had both and then went to go bathe. Guru ji tied his Dastaar with the Jigha on top. The Kalgi was tied high on his Dastaar. It swayed from side to side as he moved. It had many precious stones which shined in the light. The Khalsa came and started the Divaan at the shores of the Beas. Everyone was happy. The Raja of Mandi was sitting next to Guru ji. Guru ji said: “the flow of the river is slow. The shores are beautiful. Take a pot and place it where the water is coming. Aim at the pot with your guns.” The Khalsa obeyed. One Singh placed a pot in the river. The pot floated on the water. The Singhs brought their guns and started to shoot at the pot. Many bullets were fired at the pot but not one bullet hit it. They all fired and were amazed why they couldn’t hit it. They were all expert marksmen. Satguru ji then picked up a rifle and gave it to the Raja of Mandi: “aim at the pot and shoot it. I hope the target doesn’t get away without being shot.” The Raja folded his hands and bowed. He took Guru ji’s blessing and took the rifle. He shot once. The bullet hit the side of the pot which made the pot upside down. Guru ji was happy to see this. He said to the Raja: “whatever wish you have in your heart, say it. I am happy seeing your aim. Nobody else was able to shoot it.” The Raja folded his hands and said: “Sri Prabhoo ji, I have no desire. You have given me sons and milk. I have wealth and a great family. You have blessed me with everything. What shall I ask for? You gave me everything already.” Guru ji spoke again: “ask for something. It shall be fulfilled right away. I am happy. My happiness does not go empty. I want to give you something.” The Raja was happy and said: “my kingdom has been there for many generations. I want this to stay as it is. This is what I ask for. This is my desire. Your Panth will grow. It will take the kingdoms of other Rajas to rule.” Satguru ji said: “whoever takes your kingdom, they will be left lying upside down like this pot on the water. Whoever snatches your rule, they won’t be seen again.” The Raja bowed to Guru ji’s feet. Everyone mounted their horses and started to travel again.
Guru ji crossed the river with the Vaheer and camped in Mandi. The Raja did Guru ji’s Seva in every way. He wanted to make Guru ji happy. Guru ji stayed there for many days. The Raja served Guru ji. One day, the Raja went hunting with Guru ji. They were near the Kamalagarh fort. It was a huge fort. Guru ji’s camp was set there. (Guru ji made the Gobindgarh fort there, which was undefeated). Guru ji sat there and said: “when the Panth comes here, the Khalsa will win the Kamalagarh fort. They will rule this place.” The Raja of Mandi said the Katha of the area: “this great fort has been independent and undefeated. Sikander came here and wanted to win it. He tried but did not succeed. He had the wise Aflatoon Fakir with him. Aflatoon checked the water path of the mountain. He found the main artery for the water supply and cut it. The water drained out of the mountain. The king on the inside of the fort noticed that they no longer had water coming in. The king thought of Inder. Inder appeared right away. Inder took a stone with pieces of clouds attached to it and gave it to the King. It was put in a box and fastened. The Stone had a piece of cloud in it that could change in size. Whenever the King needed water, he opened the box and the cloud would give them water. The stone could go as big as a cloud and rain. When the water was not needed, it would shrink to a stone size. He used it when he wanted to. The clouds would give him water. Sikander sat for many days but couldn’t win. He left here without taking the fort. Sikander went to some other place. Nobody could win this fort.” Satguru ji said: “there will be a time when the Khalsa will come and win this fort.” (Baba Bandha Singh ji Bahadhur fulfilled that prophecy). Guru ji made a fort there called Gobindgarh and stayed there for a few days. After that, Guru ji started towards Anandpur.
Guru ji and the Khalsa came to Anandpur Sahib. Kavi Santokh Singh ji says: “the words that Guru ji said to the Raja of Mandi, I have seen them come true. Kunwar Naunihaal Singh and Maharaj Kharak Singh took the kingdom of Mandi and both died. Both father and son did not survive. Their whole house was upside down. I have seen their kingdom fall with my own eyes. Maharaja Sher Singh called a truce and brought peace. How can the words of the Guru be untrue? Kamalagarh was won by the Khalsa. The words of the Guru came true. I have stated this Katha from my own research. The great Katha of Guru ji will continue.”
5-9 The Brahmins did not take the Maha Daan
Travelling slowly, Guru ji and the Khalsa came back to Anandpur. Guru ji came into his home and the Sangat began to come again in great numbers. They brought Guru ji many gifts and had their wishes fulfilled. The Langar was continuous. It never stopped nor did the quantity decrease. Many Sikhs joined the Khalsa. They took the Pahul of the Khanda and began to learn Shastervidya. They would practise Shastervidya everyday. They would recite and listen to Gurbani. They would teach others too. The Guru’s glories were sung all the time.
One day, Guru ji was sitting in Keshgarh, filled in love. He spoke to the Sangat: “the wise ones with Nand Lal and others, whatever they wish to ask, they should ask Bhai Nand Lal.” There were many scribes that wrote Gurbani. 4 of those scribes were “Patshahi Likhaaris” who wrote the dictations of Guru Sahib. 52 poets translated other Granths into the vernacular language. They would write Kabits and read them out to Guru ji. Guru ji would be very happy with them. The Mahabharat was translated by 18 poets. The Vedas and Shastras, including Upvedas were translated into the Vidhaydhar or Vidya Sagar Granth. When Guru ji had the Chandi appear, Guru ji gave Amrit to the Panj Payaaray and took it himself. Everyone was instructed to keep their hair unshorn. They were told to wear the Kachera and weapons. All 4 castes were within the Sangat. The ones who followed the rules of the castes, turned their backs on Guru ji as Guru ji eliminated the caste system. The ones who turned away wouldn’t listen to the Guru and would make their own things up. They stopped coming to see Guru ji. They left Sikhi because they didn’t want to take Amrit nor did they want to renounce the caste system. They would say: “the Guru has become stubborn. He is stuck in his ways. He does unorthodox things at a high level. He made people take off their Janyows. He took them and put them on the branches.” This news got to Guru ji about people speaking about Guru ji going against the caste practices of Mundan (ceremonial shaving of the head), Janyow, and caste separation. Those people didn’t like Guru ji giving Amrit to all the castes from the same Bata. Guru ji said: “the Sangat of the Guru will spread to every land. These types of Sikhs that speak against the Guru’s ways, they are stuck in the traditions of the caste system. They are more concerned with their castes.”
One day, Kalgidhar ji gave donations to the Brahmins but changed what he usually gave. He gave iron, black lentils and oil. He gave hundreds of Maunds of them. Guru ji commanded: “distribute these things amongst the Brahmins.” The Sikhs listened to Guru ji and got iron, black lentils and oil. When the Brahmins came, they did not accept the donations. They refused it. The Mevra told Guru ji that the Brahmins did not take the donations: “Guru ji, we tried but they are not taking it. We told them to take it but they didn’t.” Guru ji said: “why aren’t they taking it?” The Mevra got scared as he felt that Guru ji was getting angry. He folded his hands and said: “you know your ways. Oh true Lord, we don’t know anything. You are omniscient.” Bhai Sahib Singh ji Payaaray was sitting by. He knew that the Mevra got scared and was hiding what the Brahmins really said. Bhai Sahib Singh ji said: “the Mevra is scared to speak Guru ji. The truth is that the Brahmins said: “the Guru is no longer eligible to give donations to the Brahmins because he is a Kshatriya who took his Janyow off.” The Sodhis are saying the same thing. They are saying: “Guru ji has lost his senses or he is possessed.” This is what they are saying.” Guru ji heard this and said: “collect all the black lentils, grind them and fry them to make dumplings. Take the iron and make rings, beads and malas out of them. Make chakars, Khandas and Karas out of them. Prepare chainmail with it as well.” Bhai Shaym Singh ji heard this and carried out the orders of Guru ji.
It was time for Rehraas and the Divaan was in session. The dumplings and metal items were prepared by then. Everything was brought to the Divaan and placed in front of Guru ji. Everyone looked towards the stuff. Guru ji spoke Gurbanis line:
Asa Mahalla 1..
You are the giver and the maker, whoever you are happy with, you give..
You are the knower of all, you give life and take it away with one word.. You are seated in your creation and watching it with joy..1..
(SGGS 461)
After saying this, Guru ji said: “distribute these items made of iron to the Singhs in the Sangat.” Bhai Shyam Singh ji distributed the iron made items to all the Singhs. He gave each Singh: 2 Karas, 2 rings, 2 Chakras, 2 chainmail and 1 Kard (small straight knife). He also gave everyone 5 dumplings. The Khalsa accepted everything with joy. The Khalsa was given Sarblo on this day. Satguru ji spoke in joy: “the Khalsa is the Guru, the Guru is the Khalsa. It is the greatest of the great. It will be the support of the supportless; the home of the homeless. The Brahmins will take donations from the world. They take what they are not supposed to take. They refused the Guru, so the Guru refuses them. The Gaur Brahmins will be the stones of the road. The Sodhis that spoke against the Guru’s way, they will fly away like dust. The ones who spoke bad against the Guru, they will be mixed in filth. The beds of the Kaan Kubaj and Mathur Brahmins will be blown away by the Khalsa.” The Purohit of the Sodhis saw Guru ji in anger and got scared. He stood up, folded his hands and said: “forgive us Maharaj. We stand in your service.” Guru ji became compassionate right away and said: “the Sarasvat Brahmins will stay within the Khalsa and be a part of them (Akaali Kaur Singh ji was a Sarasvat Brahmin). They will be respected by the Khalsa in every form they stay in. Your lineage will grow in Sambalpur. Vishnujas will be born in your family who will protect the people. Nehkalank will be born in that family. Your family will be radiant.” The Sodhis in the Darbar folded their hands and said: “forgive us and let go of your anger.” Guru ji then spoke: “those who like my Guruship, their families will grow. They will be leaders of the Panth. They will be respected like the Guru and live in Sach Khand.” The other Khatris that heard the curse, they got scared and came to Guru ji’s sanctuary. They folded their hands and said: “we come into your shelter.” Guru ji said to them: “my Panth is compassionate. Stay in their shelter. You will be in joy. If you appose them, you will be in pain. The ones who come to then, they will be happy. The Khalsa has taken over everything: riches, royalty, saintliness, completeness, wisdom, radiance, intelligence, generosity, warriorism and politics. The kingdom will be given to Bhai Uday Singh and Bhai Mohar Singh. Know Bhai Dhunna Singh, Maan Singh, Daan Singh and Charat Singh, the Zamindars; they will become the kings.” Guru ji got up and went to his home.
Mata Jeeto ji noticed Guru ji coming home. She folded her hands and touched Guru ji’s feet. She said to Guru ji: “Paatshaah ji, what will our sons do? The Sikhs will become kings.” Guru ji smiled and told her the future: “you are to take care of the true home, Sach Khand, where there is no conflict at any time. You will be royalty there. Your sons will become kings of Sach Khand. Where my Darbar will be in Sach Khand, you will all be there as well as the Khalsa. The Khalsa will obey you. The Khalsa on earth will remember your sacrifice. They will call you their mother and bow to your feet. Your sons will remember your sacrifice. The Khalsa will be 960 million. You have done a great effort for this. The Khalsa will rule on earth for many Yugas.” Guru ji laid down on his bed and closed his eyes. He went into Samadhi. He was one with the Sat, Chetan and Anand form. He affixed his attention into his real form. Mata Jeeto ji was calm and looked at Guru ji’s radiant form. She was happy and obeyed her husband’s command. She folded her hands and bowed her head. Mata Jeeto ji went to her room without speaking to anyone. She understood her husband’s words. She did not tell anyone else Guru ji’s words. She stayed in the will of Guru ji. These are the ways of the Satguru. Whoever hears this Katha, their darkest sins within Kaliyuga will be destroyed. Kavi Santokh Singh ji bows to such a Satguru’s feet.
5-10 The Kavis
There was a time when Satguru ji was sitting with the scholars and poets. The Katha of Mahabharat was happening. One of the Pandits was doing the Katha. Once the Katha ended, a discussion began about it. The discussion was about a dead person never returning: “what happens to the person when they die? Does something even happen or not?” Bhai Nand Lal ji spoke: “the lotus of Karma only blooms. The Sikhs who live in the will of the Guru and become Gurmukhs, they are well in the afterlife.” Kavi Senapati ji said: “the Darshan of the Guru, the thought of the Guru is great and will make you succeed. If you have bad or good karma, the Satguru’s shelter will save you.” Kavi Udhayrai ji said: “whatever actions one does, that is how the result will be. Whatever seeds you will plant, that is the fruit you will receive.” Kavi Raaval ji said: “the Jeev is the product of Ishwar. If a person meditates: that they are Ishwar, they are never punished. In this greedy world, if the person turns their attention inwards and focuses on the Ishwar, they are never punished.” Kavi Ulloo ji said: “the body is unconscious on its own. Bhuddi, Puranas and the 5 primary elements are also unconscious. When the 5 elements separate, the body dies. The consciousness arose from the elements, Bhuddi and Puranas coming together. The unconscious and conscious are both Akaal Purakh.” Kavi Madhoo ji said: “the consciousness is the light of Akaal Purakh. It does not die nor does it kill anything. There is no two. There is only One. Just as fire immerses in fire and ice is the same as ice; ghee and ghee becomes one; look, oh people in doubt, think about this, who is the second? It is just a doubt.” Kavi Chanda ji said: “just as the moon and the Chakor are related; the mother and son are related; that is how the relation of the Jeev and Ishwar is. Only the friends who know this love will understand this.” Kavi Bulloo ji said: “Vishnu and Fakir, Ishwar and the Jeev, they do not see a difference between each other. There is not discussion between them as they are both one. Ishwar is the Jeev. The Bhuddi cannot see this because it is in doubt. The separation between Ishwar and Jeev is only an illusion. The difference is nothing more than gold and jewellery; drop and ocean.” Kavi Lakha ji said: “the one who has 100,000 Maunds of weight on his/her head, (the weight of sins), the person dies of the weight. The Jeev is constantly stressed by the weight of Karma. The ones who have no weight, they laugh at the person carrying the weight. Understand the weight of sins and good deeds. Both are weights on the head. The one who leave this weight in front of the Guru, they are light.” Kavi Ishwar ji said: “oh Sadhoos, listen, what you are seeing as the world, it does not exist in past, present or future. Whatever you see, it is an illusion. A rope can be mistaken as a snake in the dark. The snake can be seen because of the rope, but it is an illusion. Parmatma exists, but we see the world due to the darkness. The knowledge, the light, will destroy the illusion. The world never existed. This doubt needs to be dispelled to see Akaal Purakh.” Kavi Sukhiya ji said: “a person sees many things in his/her dream. A whole new universe is created within the dream. This world is nothing but a dream. This world exists within Akaal Purakh in the same way. It is created and destroyed within.” Kavi Dharam Singh ji said: “to consider one’s saviour as the supreme, that is the Dharam. Other Dharmas are fruitless for you. The Vedas say this too.” Kavi Dhyan Singh ji said: “renunciation is the root of Sadhana. Vices and desires should be renounced. Focus your attention into the feet of the Guru. This is the ultimate wealth. The dirt of the Guru’s feet is the wealth.” Kavi Mala Singh ji said: “recite the Mala of the Satguru. This is Mala Singh’s life. What better practice is there than this? Simran blesses and saves all 4 castes. It gives all 4 Muktis. To focus on Akaal Purakh’s ultimate sound, that is the Mukti.”
Satguru ji heard the Kavis and said: “the words of the Vedas are deserving for 3 types of people, not for the fourth: the mukat, the Mumukshu (Jagyaso) and the Vishaya (the one looking for pleasures of the world. The fourth is the Paamar. The Mukat is the one who understands his/her own form. They are free from all bondages. The Mumukshu is the one tries to understand: who am I, what is the Sansara, what is my relation to the Sansara. The Vishaya is the one who wishes to obtain the pleasures of the world by the directions of the Vedas. That person will obey the Dharma but still wishes for things. They read and understand the Vedas and know what not to do. The Paamar is the person that cannot let go of any pleasures, good or bad. They are lazy towards good things. If they do Bhagti, it is only for the purpose of obtaining pleasures. The one who has determined that they will die today and adhere to devotion, Gyaan will come to them and they will understand who they really are. They will meet the Guru and become one with him. Whatever desires a person has, that is how their thoughts become. The thought that gives peace, is the one that is the love of the Brahm. If the wish to meet The Brahm arises, the person becomes Brahm. The complete love can be obtained by the complete Guru. The complete Guru’s love does not go away. Muktis and Jugtis are lower than the Guru’s love. The love is a deep colour that does not fade. When the 5 primary elements separate and immerge into their form, the foolish say that the person has died. Life is nothing more than a dream. The desires take you from one life to another. To do Simran of Satnam everyday, the desires are destroyed. If the desires are destroyed, the mind is destroyed as well. This is the Sadhana that destroys the reincarnation cycle. There is no other practise higher than this. The other practices such as: controlling the mind’s thoughts, controlling one’s senses, chastity, Yoga (controlling the direction of the conscious), Yagnas, Tapps (penance), or donations; without Satsangat, they are all fruitless. They are useless like a barren woman. A wedding occurred for the purpose of gaining a groom. The Bharaat came and the Pandit did the Pooja of the Devatas. The Ghaana strings were tied. The folk songs were sung. The scholars were called. The sorrows were gone. The day was joyful. Everything happened but the groom did not arrive. Everything was useless without the groom. In the same way, all these Sadhanas are useless if the Aatma is not known. The life is blessed, the family is blessed, the city is blessed for the Kavi who has understood themself. They have understood themself and saved themself for the world’s bondage.”
In the court of Guru Gobind Singh ji, the discussion of Brahm Gyaan would occur all the time. The Sikhs who listened with extreme focus, their worldly pain was destroyed. One day, in front of Guru Gobind Singh ji, the scholars started another discussion. The Kavis said: “Sachay Paatshaah, we have some doubts. Please clear them for us. One person makes an idol out of metal of a God and worships it with great devotion. Another person does not worship an idol but only does Simran with their speech and mind. Who is the better of the two?” Guru ji, the true master, said: “without love, both are weak. It is better to have a clean mind and be filled with love. The idol is fake. The Simran of the Name is the true task. First have faith. The Jumms will not come then. The Simran of the Prabhoo is the treasure of joy. The idol is fake and made by inspiration. For which the Sadhoos do focus for, the Jagyaso receives Mukti. Desires are destroyed. The one who destroys their desires, that person is calm and serene. The ones who have focused their devotions in idols, they are foolish. They do not go deep. My Sikh is wise who focuses on the Akaal. The one who focuses more in the Name, their words are sweet. The Sikh should be an expert in weaponry and be compassionate. There would be no one calmer than my Sikh. One is doing Simran of the Naam, the other is focusing on the Brahm, another is worshiping an idol; all 3 are Bhagats. The Hari’s Bhagat does Simran. The Dyani focuses on the Brahm. The idol worshipper is done by a person who is Taamsi. They cannot do Simran or focus on the Brahm so they need to do idol worshipping. All three Bhagats are wise. My ideology is the Bhajan, the Simran. The Dyaan is to keep the Rehit. Guru Nanak Dev ji has done a great effort which can be seen in the world. In Kaliyuga, Hari’s name is the highest, by which one is blessed in this world. This effort is above records. The Sikhs have understood this. The Sikhs are to come together and fight the Turk kingdoms. The Turk Peers will come to the Khalsa and be in their protection. I have come to pull their roots. I have come to destroy sins and sinners. Our form is with unshorn hair. The one who cuts their hair, that person is like a Turk. The Kachera is the uniform. The Khalsa is to not to practise the wearing of Tumba or do the loud calls of the Turks. The one who eats the bore/pig is the Khalsa. The one who can kill the wild bore is a Sikh. The Guru’s Sikh is the one who asks for the Naam. Drought is bad, cold is bad, the love of a whore is bad, to praise oneself is bad and to keep other’s possessions is bad. Debt is bad, to love someone too much is bad. Telling one’s own’s secrets is bad. Go in the world and make sure your Guru does not face any type of loss. The friendship or enmity of the doctor is not good. Don’t listen to astrologers too much. Don’t ask about the planetary positions on your astrological birth chart. Don’t keep a coward as an advisor, nor should the wife be the only advisor. The tasks won’t be completed. Take advice from wise and senior people. It is right to answer someone’s questions truthfully. Eat less in the home; that keeps one happy. Let go of greed. Wealth, thoughts and dreams; don’t discuss this with anyone. Wake up in the morning and bathe with cold water. Heat water in the winter. If one is hungry, only eat as much as what is needed. Saag of the home is Amrit. Someone else’s weapon, horse, woman, home, wealth, mind, land; don’t be attached to these. Land, cow, gold, horse, woman, home, worship, these are the supreme donations. The donation of food is the highest. The highest “Paath” (learning) is the Paath of Naam. Food is the highest donation. Human is the highest species. The Devata-like wise people have said this. Clouds are the ultimate support. Kings are the keeper of the land like the woman is the keeper of the home. Hari is the ultimate friend. Dying is bad, living is bad, living without good deeds is bad. A Kshatriya without weapons is bad, an illiterate Brahmin is bad, a weapon-wielding Brahmin is bad. A Sikh becoming a Brahmin is bad. An educated Vashya is bad. A Kshatriya who worships the Devi is bad (A Kshatriya who follows the Saakat religion would become a Tyagi. Only the Vaishnav or Shivait would be a good warrior but a Kshatriya does worship the Devi). A Shoodra who reads the Vedas, a Tyagi who gets married, a Sikh who loses faith, do not trust these. Mantra and Tantras are bad. One who does magic spells, a woman who worships ghosts is bad. A child who drinks alcohol is bad. Take care of yourself. Don’t eat or talk too much. Don’t indulge too much in intoxications. My Sikh should listen to me and follow the Rehit.” In this way, Satguru ji gave wisdom to the Khalsa. The Sangat came and did Guru ji’s Darshan. Their pain was gone. They took the Pahul from the Guru and kept their hair to become Singhs. They wore Kacheras and weapons. They did the Simran of the Name, all the time.
