Rut 5.36 – 5.40

5-36 Battle with the Rajas/ Breaking the Ego of the Singhs

The armies charged at each other.  The rifles were ready to fire.  The soldiers took aim on their hands.  The fight started.  Guru ji stood on a high place to watch the battle.  He observed both sides.  800 Singhs went to fight.  The Paharis had 10,000.  The rifles were fired.  The Singhs were in a line and fired at the same time.  The rifles all fired like lightening among black clouds.  It was like hail falling.  They hit the enemy in the head.  The Singhs were agile and fast on the horses.  They killed anyone who came forward.  The Paharis looked at each other and said: “this skill in the Singhs is too good.  They can aim while riding their horses.  They can save themselves while doing this.”  The Khalsa came upon ego.  They attacked with over-confidence.  Bheem Chand saved himself and couldn’t come forward.  Bhoop Chand Handooria came forward with Dev Sharan from Naan.  Vizeer Singh came as well.  The bullets fired with loud noises.  The soldiers advanced ahead.  The Rajas wanted to fight themselves as well.  The rifles fired.  The soldiers who were hit, fell to the ground.  The rivers of blood flowed from the bodies.  Many were injured and yelling out with pain.  Chambeli Raja advanced and attacked.  He fought in many ways.  The Rajas of Kuloo, Kainthal and Jasvaari came forward.  Bhai Bir Singh ji, Bhai Aalam Singh ji and Bhai Uday Singh ji released many arrows.

Guru ji sent a servant to give the Khalsa a message: “don’t advance.  Stay there and fight.  Shoot your rifles from there.”  When the Singhs heard the command, they stood and fight.  They didn’t advance.  The Paharis got together and charged.  They shouted: “kill them!”  The Dhundhabs, dhols and Pattas played.  The Maaroo Raag played.  The soldiers were filled with Bir Rass.  They danced like dancers.  They took their unsheathed swords out to fight.  They charged hard.  They attacked the Singhs hard.  They attacked with Sailas and spears.  The Singhs took on damages.  They were wounded.  They didn’t leave their post though.  They stood their ground and fought.  They killed the enemy by Guru ji’s radiance.  They withstood the charge and stood their ground.  They became angry and took out their swords from their sheaths.  They quickly fought many.  They killed about 20 each.  The enemy backed off when the saw the angry Khalsa.  When the Khalsa saw that the Paharis were running, leaving their posts; they started chasing the Paharis.  The swords clashed.  The swords broke.  When the battle woke, the heads were cut.   Many heavy Khandas cut the bodies like saws cutting the trees.  Many soldiers fell.  The Rajas and their people were seen by Guru ji from far away.  The battle was fierce.  The bullets flew.  The ground was red.  The Paharis ran.  They left the battlefield.  The Singhs chased them.  The Paharis were chased.  The Singh ran after them.  The Paharis got scared.  The Singhs disobeyed and ran ahead.  They went on ahead.  They forgot Guru ji’s orders.  They couldn’t remember the command.

Guru ji thought to himself: “they are caught up in ego now.  They won and became egotistical.  They disobeyed and are chasing the Paharis.”  Guru ji got up and mounted his horse.  The horse was blue.  It was decorated nicely.  Guru ji came back to Anandpur.  He didn’t look back.  He was upset.  He left the battle.  He ran fast.

The Singhs saw Guru ji leaving the battlefield.  He didn’t look back.  He was going to Anandpur.  The Singhs were surprised to see Guru ji’s upset mood.  They stopped using their weapons.  They moved back.  They began to retreat.  The Paharis figured out the Singhs lost their morale.  They charged again.  The Khalsa got scrambled.  They left their honour and ran back.  They were hit with many weapons.  Many died.  Some yelled out loud to Guru ji: “Sri Prabhoo ji, this is your Panth!  It is being cut.  We will lose.  Why don’t you come back?  What mistake are you punishing us for?  If the Singhs make a mistake, they are still yours.”  They all called out to Guru ji.

The Singhs reached Guru ji and came in front of him.  They pleaded with Guru ji but Guru ji did not look at them.  He continued to Anandpur.  The Singhs said: “please stop for a second.  Your Panth is fighting.”  They moved in and around Guru ji on their horses but Guru ji didn’t stop.  They rode around Guru ji in circle but Guru ji was upset and moved straight, avoiding them.  Bhai Naurang Singh ji then got off his horse and came in front of Prabhoo ji.  He drew a line on the ground and said: “Neela!  Stop here!  For the sake of Guru ji, don’t cross this line!”  Dal Bidhaar (Neela) stopped.  He didn’t advance his foot.  Guru ji heeled the horse hard but the horse did not move.  Guru ji held a skinny crop in his hand and whipped the horse.  The horse tolerated the hits but stayed there.  He moved around but did not cross the line.  The bit he had in his mouth, it was like he had a sharp one (which is used to stop a horse).  When Satguru ji saw this, that the Singhs stopped the horse with his sake, Guru ji got off his horse and said to Neela: “I know your previous birth.  You didn’t obey me.  You obeyed the Sikhs instead.  You were a Masand who took a lot of money.  You ate food from the homes of these Singhs.  You took the Dasvand from the Sikhs and ate many types of foods.”  When Neela heard Satguru ji, he shook his heads and snorted in agreement.

Sri Prabhoo ji sat down and said to all: “the Khalsa is the Guru, the Guru is the Khalsa.  Stand and fight.  Kill the enemy.  Grab the weapons with anger and fight.  Don’t be impatient.  Stand and fight.  Don’t get over-confident.”  The Khalsa heard Satguru ji’s words and took it as a boon.  The Khalsa was filled with Bir Rass.  They turned back with anger in their eyes.  They took their rifles and shot the enemy in the chest.  Guru ji stood their and watched.  He took his bow off of his shoulder and mounted an arrow on it.  One by one, he released 7 arrows.  The arrows made the sky tremble with loud noises as they flew.  The sky became unstable.  There was unrest in the dimensions.  The seats of the Devatas shook.  The Paharis were shocked to hear such loud noises.  The Shaheeds were unleashed.  Fear entrapped the hearts of the enemy.  The Singhs attacked the enemy with force.  The Tapp of 72 Chownkris (1 Chownkri is 4.3 million years) showed a glimmer of its strength.  The Singhs attacked hard.  They were like hungry lions attacking a herd of deer.  The enemy that came forward, they were killed.  Some ran away.  Tomars, sailays and Saangs were used.  The shields were used.  The Khandas swung.  The Shaheedi Army came by Guru ji’s words.  The Shaheed Singhs attacked the enemy.  The enemy went mad as they were being killed.  Many died and fell.  They didn’t know how they were dying.  They fell and looked like addicts after being high.  They laid on the floor in this way, wounded.  Many horses and soldiers died.  The dead bodies filled the battlefield over many miles.  The Pahari Rajas used their strength but their feet could not hold their posts.  They tried to stop their armies from running but the soldiers did not stay.  They ran their horses back.

The Ranjit Nagara sounded and the enemy ran after being beaten.  Many bodies lay headless.  Many vultures flew above.  Jackels came to eat the flesh.  How can I describe this battle?  The Singhs won the battle.  They defeated the Paharis.  Everyone was in joy.  No Singh, martyred or wounded, was left behind.  They all came back to Anandpur.  The Paharis went back to their places.

5-37 The Meaning of “Khalsa”/ Talking about the Future

The Paharis were upset and left, depressed.  There was nothing they could do.  They had thousands of their people killed.  They were talked bad about by the people.  One day they got together and had a discussion: “the battle was not good.  None of the battles were good.  Nothing good came out of them.”  Bheem Chand said to all: “I already knew that it was not a good idea to fight the Guru.  We can’t win him in any way.  Nobody has defeated him.  Guru ji went back and the Singhs got anxious.  When the Guru looked at us again, we were faced with such a charge that we couldn’t hold our ground.  We had 10,000 men who didn’t want to face the Singhs.  Now we should tell the Turks to fight the Guru.  Give them money and have them come quick.  All of the Pahari Rajas should send their ministers to Delhi and bring the royal army.”  Bhoop Chand Handooria agreed.  Ghamand Chand said: “let’s send them to Delhi right away.”

The ministers went to Delhi to meet the Umraavs of Nauranga.  Nauranga was not in Delhi as he had left after the Martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib ji.  He was threatened by the Shaheeds to never enter Delhi again.  Nauranga left to the south and established Aurangabad and Ahmednagar.  He stayed there for 32 years of his last years.  The ministers spoke to the Umraavs.  They folded their hands and said: “we send this money for you.  We are your subjects.  It is your responsibility to protect us.  You must save us from the Guru.  If you kick the Guru out of Anandpur, we will pay you a lot of money and obey your commands.”  In this way, the Pahari Ministers spoke to the Umraavs in Delhi.

Satguru ji returned to Anandpur.  Karah Prashaad was distributed in celebration of the victory.  The Nagaras were sounded.  They had defeated the enemy.  Donations were given to many poor people.  Guru ji’s glories spread.  They did many types of celebration.  The root of joy was Kalgidhar ji.  He was the giver of joy.  The Mridangs and the Rababs were played.  Shabads in many Raags were sung.  The greatest musicians sang and showed their skills, while singing Gurbani.  The injured were treated with Saal Patter.  Whomever Guru ji treated; they were cured overnight.  Guru ji did it himself.  Their wounds bound and they took a bath the next morning.  For many days, many Sangat came to see Guru ji and the Keertan continued.

One day, Satguru ji was sitting in the Divaan, many Singhs came and sat.  Bir Singh Jaspaali came and bowed his head.  Madan Singh Rajput came and bowed to Guru ji.  Many others came.  Some Rajas and ministers came.  They all sat to have discussions.  Bhai Shyaam Singh ji sat down.  He folded his hands and said: “Sri Prabhoo ji, I have many doubts.  Please solve them.  There are many Hindus and Muslims in this world.  Many have become our enemies.  The Khalsa Panth is in lesser numbers.  Only a few are found in the other places.  How can all of them be killed and the Khalsa rule?  Tell us.  How will their radiance grow?  How will they rule the earth?  By what action will their rule stand?  How will a few people do the work of many?  How will a few face many?  How will few rule over many?  The Hindus and Turks are many in numbers.  They are the enemy of the Khalsa.  Tell us Satguru ji.  Your Panth sits and wishes to know your answer.  They wish to know the loss and gain.  Tell us what will happen.”

Sri Guru ji then spoke from his beautiful mouth: “what will happen in the world, oh Sikhs listen to it.  Whatever the Satguru wishes, that’s how the wind will blow.  (Guru ji will breakdown the word “Khalsa,” by Khakha, Lalla and Sassa).  The Khalsa will Kha (eat) and Kharch (spend).  They will Lai (take) Laals (gems).  They will Sarke (advance) in battle.  They will make everyone happy.  They will Simti (collect) Lakshmi (wealth) up to the Khaari (salty ocean).  They will clash their metal to get it.  They will Kharr (stand) and Laray (fight) in the Sangram (battle).  They will save the world.  They will Kha (eat) the Khans; they will attack the Lashkar (armies); they will clash the Saar (metal).  The Khalsa will wake up and fight like it is the Mahabharat war.  The Khalsa will be complete in Khang-jog (Yog), Lambhog (enjoy the wealth of kings) and Saar Sangrehne (collect weapons).  The Khalsa will sit in meditation, be wise and be great warriors.  They will rule from the Khaadar (marshes- Jamnanagar to Paonta) La (till) the Saagar (ocean – Karachi where the Sindh empties).  They will rule Delhi but not stay there as Guru Nanak Dev ji gave them cooperation.  Malva, Kurukshetra, Majha, Kashmir, Attock, Hanspur, Malakpur, Jamrud, Hansi, Hassar; they will rule.  Peshawar, Jalalabad, and Kabul will be ruled by the ones who have Kes (hair).  The Khalsa will rule till the ocean and will live like the Emperor of Delhi.  The forms of the Turks will be hidden.  Deep Singh will rule.  I will be gone by then.  I will give my Bhujhangis the touch of metal.  They will rule Lahore and Kashmir and eat for many days.  The Khalsa will pacify the people and I will help them.  The Khalsa is the Guru’s and the Guru is the Khalsa’s.”  Everyone bowed at Satguru ji’s feet.  The Singhs asked: “will we have your Darshan then or not?”  Guru ji said: “I will be in the form of the Khalsa and walk amongst you.  Till the ocean, the wealth I have written about, I have told you the meaning of the Khalsa: Khakha, Lalla and Sassa.  Think about the meanings.  You see 3 letters.  In every sentence, you see Khalsa.”  After saying this, the Master went quiet.  He looked at all the Singhs.  The Khalsa saw Guru ji as happy.  They asked Guru ji about more doubts: “please tell us what will happen?  What will be Kartar’s command?  What will happen in Kaliyuga.  Which king’s rule will grow.  This is our wish to know.  You know past and future.”  Hearing the Khalsa, Sri Kalgidhar ji illuminated the future to them: “432,000 years is the age of Kaliyuga.  Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji was the saint Brahmgyaani in Kaliyuga who destroyed the pain (as written in the Bhavikhya Purana).  One year, Kaliyuga got up in the morning to do the Darshan of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji with joy.  Guru ji was far away from the village.  Kaliyuga was happy to see Guru ji.  Kaliyuga was naked and came as a tornado.  He was eating food with his hands.  Donning blue robes, laughing and talking; casually he came to Guru ji.  He bowed to Guru ji.  In Kaliyuga, whoever would do Guru ji’s Darshan, their sins would be washed away.  The doubt of their body would be gone.  Whoever reads Gurbani in the morning, their wishes would be fulfilled.  Kaliyuga didn’t want people to do this.  He offered riches to Guru ji, which Guru ji rejected.  Kaliyuga was allowed to sit in the shoe area of the Gurduara and come for Karah Prashaad.  When the Pandavas rule finished, the kings of Magadha ruled for 1,000 years.  After them, the Nands ruled for 1,500 years.  They did Yagnas like Parshuram, who killed many Kshatriyas.  The Nands were Shoodras and wanted to shave everyone’s head.  Their symbol was the scissor.  All of the Brahmins had their heads and bodies shaved.  Their hair was shaved.  Everyone looked the same.  They were faced with pain.  Nand was born from a Rajput servant.  His 5 generations ruled.  Sooraj, Maurya, Toor, Turini, Parsi, Chauhan ruled.  The Pathaans took the kingdom from them.  The Mughals came after them.  The public was of other castes.  Their traditions changed along with language and food.  There will be more chaos.  The army from Kabul will came.  Everyone will be scared.  The army from the south, the Marathas will come.  They will loot and beat everyone.  The Singhs will then roar in a great way.  They will fight with the army of Kandahar.  In the east, the Moni (the silent ones – British) will come.  They will grow there.  They will fight and destroy the courts.  The Singhs will fight with the Farangis.  The armies will be great and strong.  They will stay like this for many years and rule together.  The Farangis will rule with the Khalsa.  (The 5 Malva Kings: Patiala, Nabha, Jind, Kaithal and Faridkot had treaties with the British and so the British was there alongside Maharaja Ranjit Singh ji) A great king will rule and the Khalsa will grow.  The rule will grow in every way.  The Singhs will grow and chant the name of the Guru.  They will establish or ruin who they wish.  Many homes will be ruined, many will be established, many widows will cry.  Many homes will have Pooja and many homes will have ego.  Many homes will have deaths.  The Khalsa will rule for a long time.  The Malaich will grow then.  When Kaliyuga will become fierce, Nehkalank will come with a great radiance.”  In this way, Guru ji said the future.  The Singhs heard this and bowed.  Bhai Gurbaksh Singh ji said this to the Singhs.  From Ramdas village, Bhai Ram Koer ji said the Katha of the descendants of Guru Ramdas ji and then went into Samadhi.  He would be in silence, in Samadhi, for days at a time.  We would experience the hidden bliss.  The name of this Katha is called “Kal Vartara.”  Whoever reads or listens to this, Kaliyuga will become their servant.  Their sins will run away and Bhagti will awake.  One will wish for Sikhi.

5-38 The Pahul/ Rehit/ Brahmin

Many days passed.  Satguru ji came to his court one day and sat down.  The Rababis did Keertan and sang beautiful Raags with the Shabads.

In Ramdas Jhanday village, Bhai Ram Koer ji came out of his Samadhi.  He thought of the limitless Guru ji.  The Sikhs, Singhs and Sangat came to listen to the Katha in bliss.  Hearing the Katha, they were in bliss.  Bhai Ram Koer ji did the Katha which everyone loved.  It was filled with Bhagti and Gyaan.  It was filled with Sikhi and Vairagya.  Bhai Ram Koer ji continued after days of sitting in Samadhi.

Bhai Sudhoo ji and Bhai Mudhoo ji were two brothers.  They sang in Raags as they were knowledged in Sur.  They did the Chownki of Bilawal.  After the Bhog the Ardaas was done.  The Singhs then made a request: “you are omnipotent and complete in many ways, Satguru ji.  You made the Khalsa Bir in Kaliyuga.  It is the highest and most skilled in every way.  The Khalsa is the “Sarab Shiromani,” the supreme.  The Khalsa is the joy-giving Panth.  It stays away from the dirty smoke (tobacco).  The Khalsa is praised in the world.  We ask with the love, please tell us the Rehit.  What should be done?  Who should we give donations to?  How should we love?  How should we be saints?”  Guru ji said: “listen Khalsa: the one who has hair (unshorn) and takes Pahul, they are Mukat.  The Khanda Pahul is the best but the Charan Pahul can be taken.  For the tasks of my Bhagats, I’ve taken an Avatar in every Yuga.  The one who lives by the Rehit is the Khalsa, my crown.  The one who keeps their hair unshorn but does not take the Pahul, that person is only wearing a disguise and is a foolish Sikh.  They won’t get my Darshan.  I will renounce such a sinner.  It is good to stay in one religion.  Don’t follow two.  If one calls themselves my Sikh and falls in doubt to go to others, that person is a sinner.  My Sikhs are of 3 kinds: Sahiji, Charni and Khanda.  For this reason, if one keeps hair, they satisfied all 3 types.

My Sikh will keep the Rehit and stays in the command of the Guru, day and night.  They should bathe at 2 am.  They should practice good hygiene and keep purity.  They should do the Daattan (meshwak) and bathe everyday; comb their hair and be alert.  They should recite the Jap and other Gurbani.  They should read Gurmukhi and not read other made up compositions.  Ingrain the words of the Satguru in your heart along with the knowledge of the Shrutis and Vedas.  Other writings such as songs are just illnesses.  Don’t read compositions of Arabic and Farsi for knowledge.  From the mouth, recite “Guru” day and night.  Don’t bow your head to a Turk.  Don’t sit in their Sangat nor should you eat from them.  If you need to work for a living then fasten weapons and fight on the battlefield as a soldier.  Don’t stay with a greedy friend.  They never stand by you.  The Sikh should never love a Pahari.

Deal with the 4 Varanas in this way, listen oh Sikhs to my words.  You should understand them.  The Brahmin who has taken the Charan Pahul or is a Sahiji Sikh, meet with them.  My Sikh will not deal with other types of Brahmins.  Do not give donations to fake Brahmins who only wear a façade.  Your donation will not be fruitful.  Don’t call a greedy Brahmin.  If you are mine, don’t deal with such a Brahmin.  Sarvar, Ghugha and other such Peers, if a Brahmin and a Brahmini become cowards and do Pooja of them, the Sikh should not be in their company.  How can your donations given to them be fruitful?  The Brahmin who slanders the Guru or the Sikhs of the Guru, give them pain.  If there is a Brahmin who is not my Sikh, don’t give them donations.  The Brahmin who takes the Pahul without hair, make such a hypocrite run away.  Keep purity, keep contentment, follow the Rehit, follow the Dharma and recite the Shrutis and Vedas.

To loot my Sikhs, many will disguise themselves to get donations.  They will keep Kes but be stuck in vices.  They will be like Ketu, the malefic planet.  They are corrupt.  The Brahmin Varana is the highest.  It is the form of the 3 Devatas (Brahma, Vishnu and Shiv).  The one who changes their religion and worships Peers, they will fall into the well of Hell.  The one who keeps the Kes and disguises as a Sikh while doing the Pooja of small Devatas, don’t give them water.  Serve my Sikhs only.  The ones who keep Kes for a disguise are just like a Chandaal, who keep hair for their job.  Giving them donations is fruitless.  Don’t follow crypts, graves or Kabars.  Don’t give donations to hypocrites.  Don’t eat Prashaad from those places.  The one does this is not a Sikh.  Their life is a waste.  Without reciting Gurbani, the ones who do Pooja of Devatas, I leave them and they have left me.  My Sikh will go to the Teeraths and give food to the needy.  The donations given on special days, should be given to the Sikhs of the Guru and to the places of Gurus.  Don’t go the Pandays of the Teeraths.  Don’t even look at them.  They only wear façades.  Stay in solitude, away from crowds.  Stay away from their love.  Stay filled with the thought of Gurbani.  My Sikhs should only give to my Sikhs.  Keeping Kes just for show, that is not my Sikh.  The Brahmin who keeps Kes or not but has faith, such a Brahmin is like Vyaas.  Give them donations with joy.

Give your daughter (for marriage) to Sikhs.  Don’t take money for it.  That person is my Sikh.  They will come to my abode after their life.  Don’t worship Sarvar, Ghugha, Peers, Bhoots, Prayts or other entities.  Do the Pooja of the Guru for all your tasks.  They will come to me after life.  Recite Jap, Anand and Jaap everyday.  If not all, then some.  Recite Rehraas, Aarti, Shabad and Keertan.  Such a Sikh is accepted.  The Sikh and Sikhni should sit together and talk about the Guru.  Teach Simran to the kids along with the Gurbani.  Instruct them to do Simran, over and over again.  To do Sharaads of the Pittars, if you are Kshatriya, Vaishya or Shoodra, have a Brahmin Sikh do it.  Don’t go to other Brahmins.  The one who gives bad donations, the receiver will go to Hell.  The giver is fine but the taker will be in the bad.  One should test the person giving the donation.  Keep the faith in the Guru.  There is no friend like the Guru in this life and in the next.  The tradition of Sikhi is Gyaan, Dhyaan and Ishnaan.  The Sikh should keep this.  They will not be in pain.  The one who has extra-marital affairs, reads Farsi, they are not my Sikhs.  Don’t drink water from them.  The ones who read Farsi and go to their homes, don’t trust them.  If they touch the food, don’t eat it.  They have left the path of Dharma.  If my Sikh Brahmin eats the money of Sharaads and weddings, they are hypocrites and sinners.  Don’t renounce guests.  Give them food.  If a Brahmin sells the Gayatri and Greh Pooja; eats the donations of Grehs and animals, they will go to Hell.  During the eclipses, do the Pooja and chant the Jaap.  Take a bath.

Give donations after the eclipses.  That is my Sikh.  The one who takes donations during the eclipses, that person is like committing suicide.  My Sikh should not let such a Brahmin come close to them.  The one who takes donations from the poor, they will become like the Malaich.  They won’t go to heaven.  The one who eats the money of the daughter, donations of the eclipses, the money of the Pooja; they will leave it all here.  They won’t receive Mukti.

If my Sikh takes money from Ardaas of the Pooja of Guru Granth Sahib ji, they eat poison.  They are slanderers.  If they do take the money of the Pooja, they should make Langar Karah Prashaad and distribute it.  Don’t have greed in your mind.  They will be punished.  The Khalsa will not take donations.  They will not follow Hindus or Turks.  Don’t even touch the donations of the Brahmin who took donations for the eclipses.  I am by their side.  Wear weapons and eat.  This is the tradition of Kshatriyas.  The Brahmin who is not greedy, is content; it is good to give them donations.  The one who takes donations and does Simran, that person is my friend.  I do not like façades.  I do not like any disguise or any Varana.  I only like the Rehit and contentment.  I have said the Rehit of the Satguru.  Keep it close to your heart.  If you read or listen to it, you will achieve Bhagti and Mukti.  They will go to the home of the Guru.”

5-39 The Brahmin

There was a time, long ago when Guru ji wanted to test the Brahmins.  He held a Yagna and invited all of the Brahmins for a Bhoj.  He said: “the Brahmins that eat meat, they will be given a golden coin in the donation.  They can take it home.  The ones who eat Kheer, they will be given 1 Rajitpun.”  Many came greedy for money and ate meat.  When Guru ji saw that most of the Brahmins ate meat, he gave them only 1 Rajitpun and gave the golden coins to the ones who ate Kheer.  Guru ji said: “the greedy ones are without Dharma.  The Sadhoos who didn’t eat meat, they earned their Dharma.  What Brahmin eats meat?  They are the friends of Chandaals.”  Guru ji then said after: “listen Sikhs with your focused minds.  If you are a Sikh, eat meat.  The Brahmin who eats meat is not a Brahmin.”

The Sangat heard this and made a request: “the Brahmin who has taken the Pahul, what is their way?”  Satguru ji said: “listen Aalam Singh, good son, the Brahmin that has become a Kshatriya (Khalsa), they are like Indra.  Having entered the Khalsa Kshatriya Dharma, they should serve the Kharag.  They should not take donations for Pooja.  The one who gives it will also be in pain.  I have removed the promises of the Janyow.  Alcohol and Meat, to leave this, is the way of the Brahmins.  The Brahmin who does the Bidhi Karma, they should not commit violence or eat meat.  The Brahmin who eats meat is like the Chandaal.  They should be without greed, be indiscriminate with all and have Gyaan in their hearts.  Such a person is like a Dev Rishi.  My words are true.

The Ghristi that lives in the jungle and reads the Vedas with a focused mind; eats raw grains for a living; that is a Brahmin Muni.  The one who lives in his home with Dharma in a city, renounces slandering and jealousy; that person is a Brahmin.  This is my ideology.  The one who wears Shasters is a Kshatriya.  The one who sits in a shop is a Vaishya.  The one who serves is a Shoodra.  Such a person would only be Brahmins by clothes.  The Brahmin who sings and dances; spies for the Malaich; does not do the 6 Karmas; filled with desires; such a Brahmin is a sinner.  The one who does not distinguish between good and bad food; drinks alcohol; eats meat; indulges with other women; such a person is a Chandaal.  Leave them.  My Sikh should not think of such a person as a Brahmin.  That person takes donations with greed; looks at others with an evil stare; such a Brahmin is a cat.  Don’t give them donations with love.  The Panda Brahmin that takes money for chanting Mantras or performing weddings; such a Brahmin is a home of sins.  Giving such a person donations will also result in bad rewards.  The Brahmin should study, meditate on the Prabhoo and renounce slander and praise.  The one who does good deeds, such a Brahmin is deserving of donations.  A Brahmin should only get married once.  He should marry a girl from the Brahmin family and no other caste.  He should not take donations for weddings and not worship other Devatas.  He should wear the Janyow with the traditions; read the Vedas with traditions; don’t discriminate to take donations.  He should renounce the food of hunters.  Such a Brahmin is deserving of Pooja.  A Brahmin should not take donations for eclipses, Tulla, Chaya, death or birth.  He should read the Vedas and Puranas without asking.  He should eat what the Lords give him.  Such a Brahmin is a Gyaani of the Devatas.  While taking and giving, don’t have attachment.  Such a Brahmin is above the world.  Touching their feet gives radiance.  Such a Brahmin is a Dev Gyaani and has good Karma.  I have made the Panth for this reason, or else why would I have come?  My Sikh should be a Vairagi, detached from everything.  Understand that death is either today or tomorrow.  Follow the Dharma of the Master.  Find the true path of the Dharma.  Give food from time to time.  Leave laziness and sing the Bani.  Listen Sikhs, don’t have Mamta (mine).  Serve the good and bad.  Don’t be friends with the low (the ones stuck in pleasures).  The one who goes back on their word, stay away from them.  The ones who call themselves good Sikhs, they should take the Pahul and do good deeds.  Their past sins will be washed away when they come to the shelter of the Guru.  Renounce the Seva of Asuras and Bhoots.  Don’t do the Pooja of stones.  The Pooja of the stones, don’t preach or love this.  Don’t worship the graves and crypts.  They are the false ways.  If you put up a façade, close your eyes or nose, use the Jap Mala, such a person is impure.  The ones who don’t have love in their hearts, why do those fools wander the Teeraths?  The Keertan and Simran is the flow of the Ganga.  That person is Mukat who does the Simran of Murari.”  Guru ji said this Prasang to the Sikhs with love.

Guru ji said: “Deep Singh will take an Avatar and pacify the sinners.  My Sikhs will keep coming in the world.  They will illuminate the world.”  Once Guru ji said: “the Sikhi in Kaliyuga, the one who earns Dharma, they will be saved.  Without faith, they will be empty.  The Sikhs who fought in the Bhangaani battle and were Shaheed, they will be in bliss in Anandpur Makhowal.  Then was the battle of Nadhaun, to help the Paharis when they were attacked by Alaf Khan.  The Turks came from Lahore who were servants of Nauranga.  The Paharis fought amongst themselves and the Turk Sardars, Hussaini, was killed.  Kartaar killed the others and I was saved with his hand.  There was a battle in Lakhno Agampura.  The army from Delhi came and many Turks were killed.  The Khalsa did many battles and won.  The sinners were killed.  The Khalsa killed the Turk families.  The Khalsa gave their heads for Dharma.  The Malach are still growing.  The Singhs will kill them.  See my instructions as true.  Don’t forget it oh patient ones.  My Sikhs will grow and every home will rule.  After me, one of my Sikhs will keep the honour of the Panth.  For many years, the Sikhs will fight.  The Sikhs will then become the kings.  They will be very radiant and in the form of the Khalsa.  The Khalsa kingdom will stay for a time.  They will win the west, mountains and Kashmir.  The Pahari Sikhs (Dogras) who will have authority and command, they will be enemies of the Khalsa.  They will kill and then dissolve like hail.  The Khalsa will fight among themselves.  (The Dogras will shine like a new pearl.  Instead of Daleep Singh, Dhyaan Singh’s son, Heera Singh will shine on Ranjit Singh’s throne – Guru ji speaks in riddles but this is the accepted version of the translation).”

Bhai Ram Koer ji speaks the Katha: “when Guru ji spoke of the Drisht Koot, I said: “the Avatar Rajas in the Khalsa Panth,” as I said this, Guru ji went quiet and didn’t speak of the future.  Guru ji looked towards the weapons.  He then looked towards Bhai Aalam Singh ji.  After about an hour and a half, he smiled.  He became compassionate and joked: “Aalam Singh, you are a great Rangar!  I have seen you!”  Bhai Aalam Singh ji was surprised.  He folded his hands and said: “I am your Sikh.  See me as your servant and have faith in me.”  Satguru ji said: “only metal cuts metal.  Only the Rangar can kill the Rangars.  You will be born again in the home of Rangars (Rajputs) and all of the Rajas will be under you.  I will give you all of the kingdom.  Half of the Sikh Panth will be yours.”  Bhai Aalam Singh ji folded his hands and said: “will I have your Darshan again?”  Satguru ji said: “I will fulfill your wish.  I will come to Sri Amritsar where Ramsar is.  I will come the 11th time and only some will recognize me.  The Khalsa Panth is my field.  I will take care of them.  The kingdom of the Singhs will grow.  There will be a lot of war and ruin.  The Khalsa will trip.  They will think of me with every breath.  I will come then with the Mukat Singhs.  The foolish, weak and greedy kings will be destroyed.  The Sirhind will be destroyed and so will my biological family.  It will be like Krishan ji taking all of the Yadavs with him.  His family was cut like grass.  The 5 Sikhs will be my Sardaars.  This is the Koot.  Don’t ask me who they will be, for my sake and my children’s sake.”

After this, Sri Prabhoo ji got up and went to his stables.  He looked at the horses and counted them.  He stood for a half hour and was happy to see the horses.  Sri Guru ji then went to the Langar and ate Prashaad.  Guru ji then went home and laid on his bed.  The Singhs were happy.  The Khalsa went to their Dheras and were in joy.  Kavi Santokh Singh bows to the feet of the Guru.

5-40 The Sangat Commanded to keep Weapons/ Saal Patter/ 3 Types of Warriors

One day, Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji, the king of kings, was sitting in his court.  The Khalsa was sitting radiantly, all around Guru ji like Kuber.  Guru ji gave wisdom to the Sikhs by which their life and death cycle would be over: “oh Sikhs brothers listen, listen to what will be good for you.  Do the Simran of Satnam Satguru everyday.  You will receive the highest joy by this.  You won’t come into the 84 Lakh species again.  You have received the human life with good karma.  This life knows about loss and gain.  You have received this expensive gem.  Don’t waste it.  Nobody will stay here forever, understand this.  Do the Simran of Sri Satguru Satnam.  This is the highest purpose of the human life.”

As Satguru ji was saying this, a Sikhni came and bowed.  She sat near Guru ji and began to cry.  She drenched her clothes with her tears.  Sri Guru ji asked: “why are you crying?  What pain are you in?”  She folded her hands and said: “listen Guru ji, I am in pain.  My husband and I came here for your Darshan.  My husband died.  I am in pain.  What should I do, oh Sacha Paatshaah?  I am from another land.  Where shall I go?  Jalalabad is really far from here.  I am a widow and in great pain now.  I don’t have anyone in this land now.  This is my problem.”  Guru ji said to the Sangat: “keep weapons with you everyday.”  The Sangat heard this and obeyed.  The ones who kept the weapons, they made the weapons their friends.  “When my Sangat fights the sinners, I am happy.  You recite the Vaar of Baghauti and give pain to the sinner Turks.”  The Sikhs praised their weapons and fought battles.  The fight between the Sangat and the Turks had grown ever since.  Wherever the Turks did bad things, the Sikhs would kill them and win.  The martyrs went to Sach Khand.  Their motivation grew in the world.  The people realised their power against the tyrant rulers.  The Sikhs had faith in the Guru which grew as well.  They trusted Guru ji’s words.  The Sikhs convinced their friends and loved ones to become Singhs.  The good became radiant.  The bad began to hide.  There was joy within the Sikhs and pain in the Turk homes.  They chanted the Naam and had faith in the Guru.  They were blessed.  They bowed to Guru ji’s feet.  Their pains were all gone.

Guru ji applied Saal Patter to the injured Singhs.  The wounds would be cured over night.  There was a hospital there.  Shah Sikander was a Fakir from Guram who once came to Punjab.  He was a Hakeem who had the power to cure wounds.  His students wanted to learn this skill from him.  He stayed in Ludhiana for 50 years.  He wanted the highest status.  In his last year of his life, he met Guru Gobind Singh ji in Rewalsar.  He gave his skill to Guru ji.  The skill of the Saal Patter came into the home of the Guru in this way.  Any type of big or small wound would be cured with the Saal Patter.

The Sikhni bowed and went back to her land.  She received her wishes and did the Simran of the Guru.  Guru ji gave wisdom to the Sikhs, everyday which gave them peace.  He gave them joy with ease.  He destroyed their pains.  He gave them Mukti, easily.  The thick-skulled could not read.  They couldn’t listen either.  They were told by Guru ji: “if you can fight, you will go to Heaven.  Warriors live there.  The ones who love life and show their backs, they are cowards.  They are without good wisdom.  They run away themselves and destroy the courage of others.  They suffer the punishment of sins and go to Hell.  They make others run and become the destroyers of Dharma.  The ones who start a fight but stay back, don’t take them along to battle.  The warrior advances without fear and fights.

There are 3 types of warriors: best, medium and lowest.  Practice weapons everyday; standing in the battlefield and fighting, moving left and right; killing the enemy that comes in front in a charge; this is the lowest type of warrior.  The medium one advances in the battle and kills the enemy.  He makes the enemy run.  The highest warrior stops his comrades from running after the fleeing enemy.  He only spreads his chest in front of the enemy without fear.  If the army runs, it is hard to stop them like the flow of a river.  Like deer run seeing the lions; the ones who run without patience, the best warrior stands there.  He tolerates the enemy strikes.  He stops his comrades from running away.  The leader never runs away.  They give hope to all.  They receive the rewards of the Asmedh Yagna.  That is the best warrior.  He strikes even if he is surrounded.  He goes to the infinite Sach Khand.  His sins are all washed away.  He does not speak like Kleevs (Hijra, Hermaphrodite) and is never scared.  He doesn’t think of how less weapons he has.  He is determined to die.  He loves the battlefield with courage.  He does not love his life.  He fights and dies for the Dharam.  When the enemy comes in strategic formations, he stands and fights like a warrior.  All of the warriors should stand shoulder to shoulder.  They should all be equal.  This is the biggest sign of victory.  Everyone should have the same aim of killing the enemy.  Kill the enemy in the battle.  This would be the wish.

These are the signs of victory: the wind blows from the back.  The sun and clouds are behind you.  If birds sing behind you, you will win.  Whatever age you have left, you will not die till your times come.  If your age is up, you will die no matter what effort you do.  Understand this and have courage.  If you win, you will receive wealth and praise.  If you die, you will go to heaven.  Love the weapons and take care of them.  Keep the weapons clean and sharp.  Offer flower garlands to the weapons.  Offer incense and sandalwood fragrances to them.  Offer flowers to them.  Wear them with respect and keep them with your body.

To perfect your aim, practice with a slingshot first.  This will make your hand steady.  Then practice how to pull the bowstring everyday.  Aim with a steady eye.  Raise the hand up till the shoulders.  The fist, arrow point and target should all align.  When the are aligned, then release the arrow.  When they are one, the aim won’t be a miss.  Practice this everyday.  The left hand should hold the bow and right hand to hold the bowstring.  The rifle aim is the same.  Your hand should be strong.  The arms should be still.  You need to work out your arms and shoulders.  They should be like metal.  The scope hole on the rifle, to see this, the eyes should be healthy.  The mind should be still.  The aim, balance and breath should be still.  If all are aligned (eyes, mind, scope, target, breath) the enemy cannot survive then.  Stay connected to the weapons everyday by practicing.  Why wouldn’t the weapons give you success if you practice everyday?  Don’t keep the weapons under your head.  Keep it with respect.  Keep the weapons close to your body.  Never trust the enemy.”
