3-51 A Sikhni under the influence of a Musselman
One morning, Guru Gobind Singh ji came to his court and sat on his throne. Many Sikhs were sitting close to Guru ji, like Devatas sitting close to Inder. A Sikh came running to Guru ji, trying to catch his breath. He was scared and out of breath. He came to Guru ji and bowed to Guru ji. Satguru ji saw him and said: “tell me Sikh, is everything alright? You came running here. You are out of breath.” The Sikh folded his hands and said: “I am a Vanjara Sikh. I’ve seen a very surprising thing. I am scared. I came straight to you. There is a Turkani who has possessed a Sikhi with her black magic. She has read a strong Mantra. The Sikhni has left Sikhi and talks the talk of the Turks. She says: “I am not a Sikhni. I will become a Turkani. I want to live be the ways of Islam.” We folded our hands to her and asked her not to say that. She does not listen to us. We prayed a lot for her.” Satguru ji said: “this is bad. The Sikhni was a follower of the Peers in some birth or she had presented Prashaad to a Peer in this birth. She must have eaten their Prashaad from the Kubber (grave) of the Peers. This is why she is under their influence.” The Sikh folded his hands and said: “forgive us. She is my niece. She is my sister’s daughter. My sister and I try to convince her that we are Sikhs and don’t bow to graves. She insists on going to the graves. We are Sikhs from the time of Guru Nanak Dev ji. Both sets of my grandparents are Sikhs. No one in our family has done such a thing. We recite Gurbani and work for a living.” Guru ji gave the Sikh a solution: “take her to Mukatsar to do a bath. Her kurahit will be washed away there. Recite the Mukatnama near her, 40 times. Recite Japji Sahib after that. The problem will go away. Vahiguru ji will be with you. Write “Vahiguru ji hoe Sahai” on a paper on the Nau Chanda Sunday and tie it around her head or neck. The influence of the magic will go away. The shadow of the ghost that has possessed her, will be destroyed. Keep Sikhi in your mind. Rehani is the best. Only dressing like a Sikh is not good. Sikhi has to be earned with faith. Whoever follows Sikhi of the Guru, they will succeed in life. The Guru is not greedy for money. The weak Gurus take money and forgive their disciples. The Guru who is greedy for the Sikh’s money, cannot forgive anyone. The Sikh and the Guru are on the wrong path. They are the thieves of the Guru’s treasury. They will not be accepted in the court of the Guru.” The Sikh heard Guru ji’s words and went back home. He met his sister and told her the solution. They both did what Guru ji said.
Many days had passed. Kalgidhar ji came to the Sikh’s village while hunting. The village was Jumman Khera. The Vanjara Sikh saw Guru ji coming to his village. He said: “Guru ji please stay a while.” The niece of the Sikh was very fortunate this day. She came and bowed to Guru ji. She folded her hands and said: “the Turkani had possessed me. Now I am regretting it. My mind was not calm. I couldn’t concentrate. My mind was in anguish.” Satguru ji said: “let go of your worries. You have not sinned because you haven’t been touched by them. Don’t trust these four: Turks, step-mother, mind and flies. Tell me about your faith.” The Sikhni folded her hands and said: “I only wish to serve you, the Guru and the Sikhs. I wish to do Seva for the rest of my life of Sikhs. I have faith on the Sikhs. I know the power of Gurbani now. You are my only hope. I wish to be forgiven. I seek your sanctuary. You are the purifier of the sinners. You gave us the solution of washing our sins away.” Guru ji heard the Sikhni’s wishes. The whole family served Guru ji. Guru ji was happy with the Seva. The family bowed to Guru ji’s feet and placed their Dasvand in front of him. Guru ji took away all their tensions and problems. Guru ji said to the Sikhni: “I will tell you your future. You will have a son who will be a great Sikh. In your 7th birth from now, your husband will be Sangat Singh. You will receive Mukti then. You will be rewarded for your Seva.” Guru ji blessed the Sikhni and came back to Anandpur Sahib.
One day, a Raagi was doing Keertan in Raags in the court of Guru Gobind Singh ji. The Raagi did Keertan with Vairagya. The Raagi sang the Vaar of Gopi Chand (Raja Bharthri’s sister’s son, who was also a Jogi. Gopi Chand met Guru Nanak Dev ji for Mukti). The Khalsa listened with love. They had joy in their hearts. It was the Amritvela and so everyone’s minds were still. They had love in their hearts. The instruments, vocals and the sounds were all in harmony. The Taal and Raag was in harmony. The Raagis finished and bowed their heads. When some Sikhs heard this, they did not like to listen to anything else besides Gurbani. They only listened to Gurbani. They got up and folded their hands. They said to Guru ji: “listen Prabhoo ji to our plea: the Raagis seem to not have faith on Gurbani today. Instead of Gurbani, they sang the conflict of Gopi Chand. They did this during the Amritvela. Hearing this, I am surprised. My mind was not still. Any other Bani besides the Guru’s is weak. It says in the Guru Granth Sahib ji this way. The Raagis did this on purpose. It was the time to do Gurbani Keertan. They praised Gopi Chand instead. Why did they do this?” Kalgidhar ji laughed and said: “my good person, listen to me, there is no difference between the Guru and the Sikh. The servants of Akaal Purakh who do Simran of Akaal Purakh with every breath, Sikhi is still too far. Sikhi is achieved only by the blessings of the Guru. Gopi Chand was a great Bairagi. He left his kingdom, 1400 queens who were beautiful beyond belief. He was a wealthy king. He broke his bonds and attachments; and threw away everything like a piece of grass. He did Tapasya and became of Sidh. He renounced everything. He joined Gorakh Nath. He had elephants, diamonds, rubies, pearls, gold, horses, palanquins and a lot of wealth. His queens were beautiful like the moon. Many children he had, who were also beautiful. Once he renounced them, he did not look back again. He had a strict Vairagya in his heart. He saw the world as false. All of you Sikhs stay in the presence of the Guru but your mind is not still for an instance. You have a wife who is ugly and one-eyed. She does not know the ways of the world or have good manners. You are attached to your wife. You are always writing her letters. You take money from the Guru’s home and give it to your wife. You wish to be happy in your home and have all the wealth you want. How can you compare yourself to Gopi Chand? You are stuck in your desires still. You take money and send it home; Gopi Chand renounced his home and wealth. That is the great man that he was. Guru ji belongs to the great Bairagis as much as the Sikhs. The Bani that you recite and listen to, gives your mind peace, gyaan, and Vairagya; the Bani written by the wise Saints; that is like Gurbani as well. If the Vedas have a line which has no meaning, the Rishis, Munis and Devatas don’t agree with; it is right to let that go. Whoever listens to useless words, they will go to Hell. If a 4-year-old speaks wise words versus a useless statement from the Vedas, listen to the child. That person’s vices will be destroyed which sing the praises of Parmeshwar; speaks of the true Aatma and the world being the false; the stories of the saints and Avatars; the stories of warriors; Ram Krishan life stories. Listen to the history of Guru Nanak Dev ji and the other Gurus. If a fool doubts these Kathas, they will not see the purpose of life. They will be beaten by the Jumms and take many births, over and over again. For this reason, whatever katha or story has wisdom in it, the wise ones should listen to it. One should listen to and read it. They will adhere to Gurmat. They will cross this world ocean. If one doesn’t read, listen to or do any good things; doubts Gurbani; they will go to Hell. They will lose their birth and go. I am writing the Bani for the Khalsa. I will be commissioning the writing of the Mahabharat and other such Granths for the Khalsa to read and be inspired by. The Kavis will translate the originals for the Panth. I want the Panth to be wise and scholarly. They will read it themselves and tell others.” Guru ji had 52 poets who translated many Granths. Satguru ji gathered their writings and had them written on big paper. The name of that Granth was Viday Saagar. The writings and poets were examined by Guru ji. The poets were the wisest in the land. Guru ji would help the poets fix their writings. Guru ji would give them a lot of money with joy. He spent Lakhs on translating those Granths. The Katha of the poets will come in the next Rut. The 3rd Rut is now complete. Kalgidhar ji’s history has been written here. It will bring love into the hearts who read it. Guru ji will give Mukti to them. I think of the 10 Gurus, Kavi Santokh Singh writes this poetry.
This ends the 3rd Rut
