Rut 3.46 – 3.50

3-46 The Sangat was stopped from Leaving the Mela

One day, Sri Kalgidhar ji wore his clothes, weapons and jewellery after doing his Nitnem and mourning cleansing routines.  Sri Satguru ji tied a Pashmina Dastaar.  He had his bow on his shoulder.  He looked very handsome.  He came to the court and sat on his throne.  It was as though Inder was sitting in between the Devatas.  The Divaan was in session.  Thousands of people came to meet Guru ji.  People came from every direction.  They came and had their wishes fulfilled.  The Mevra would go and tell the Sikhs to come and meet Guru ji.  The Sangat would then come to meet Guru ji.  A crowd gathered around Guru ji.  Sikhs and Sikhnis came in great numbers.  Guru ji was very radiant in the Sangat, just as Kuber sat amongst the Yakshas.  Guru ji’s eyes were like the petals of a lotus flower.  The Sikhs said to Guru ji: “many Sikhs have come today.”  Guru ji said: “who do these Sikhs belong to?”  The Sikhs responded: “they are the Guru’s Sikhs, of course.”  Guru ji said: “no, they are the Sikhs of Sikhnis.  Not of the Guru.”  The Sikhs were surprised to hear this.  Guru ji looked towards the Sangat and said: “the Mela that has gathered, don’t let anyone leave till further notice.  Don’t let any Sikh or Sikhni leave till I say so, for about 2 to 3 days.”  The announcement was made in the Sangat and everywhere in Anandpur.  The warrior Sikhs stood guard and didn’t let anyone leave Anandpur.  The ones who came from far, they were not allowed to leave either.  The ways out of Anandpur were all blocked.  Everyone was depressed, not being able to go back to their homes.  They were stopped for 3 days.  Everyone started to think about their household tasks.  They wanted to go back home quickly.  Guru ji’s radiance was very strong and no one was brave enough to ask Guru ji for leave.  Keertan continued in the court but the Sangat was anxious.

The Sikhs of Malva (Ujjain, Oankareshwar area/ the area of Bikramajeet) were there and thought to themselves: “we need to farm our land.  What should we do to leave Anandpur?”  One elderly Sikh said: “I will lay down, holding my breath.  You guys should pretend I’m dead.  Take me on a platform, carried on top of your shoulders.”  The elderly Sikh laid down on a platform.  The family members picked up his body and the others sang Shabads as they moved forward: “Sevak ki Odhak nibhee preet.”  They sang this Shabad with love and out loud.  They acted out a funeral procession.  Where Guru ji was sitting, they procession was going to pass from there.  They wanted to fool Satguru ji but they didn’t think that the Guru was omniscient.  Guru ji saw the procession singing the Shabads and said: “what is this noise in the Sangat?  Who died?  There are women crying and singing Shabads.”  One Sikh near Guru ji went to find out what was going on.  He asked: “what is this noise?”  The people said: “our father has died and we are taking his body for cremation.”  The Sikh went back to Guru ji and said: “a Sikh has gone through Hukam Sat (death).”  Guru ji said: “bring him here.  Don’t go there.  Let me see him before he is cremated.”  The procession reluctantly turned towards Guru ji.  Guru ji looked at the body.  The Sikhs continued to sing the same Shabad “Sevak ki Odhak nibhee preet.”  They sang out loud with love.  They did the drama of crying.  Guru ji told them to sit down and stop crying.  Everyone sat down.  Guru ji spoke: “this is a façade.  They are far from Sikhi and the Guru.  Many are fake Sikhs.  They do not have trust in the Guru.  What does doing Keertan like this prove?  Crying doesn’t solve anything.  There is no devotion or faith on the Guru’s words.  The Sikhs do everything but don’t trust the Guru.  They leave here empty-handed.  If crying would make the Guru happy, then the women cry a lot when someone dies; they would meet Akaal Purakh.  If doing Keertan would give you Brahmgyaan, then the Guru would have been happy with peacocks and parrots, singing their songs.  If taking baths would have made the Guru happy, the frogs live in water, they would reach Brahmgyaan.  If staying quiet makes you a Brahmgyaani, then trees would be saints.  If one wishes to reach Akaal Purakh by eating fruits then monkeys would reach salvation.  Without faith and devotion, many Pandits have sung and done Kathas, they are empty.  They lose.”  The Mevra said: “oh true Guru, the Sikhs are blessed by meeting you.  They have met you and done Keertan.  Will these Sikhs not be blessed?  Please bless these Sikhs.  Wash their sins away.”  Guru ji said: “the manmukhs (followers of the mind) lose in this world.  The Gurmukhs (followers of the Guru) win.  The Gurmukhs stay in their devotion with trust and love.  They are blessed.  Everyone sees the sun but everyone has their own karma; a lotus blooms, an owl goes blind.  The sinners go to Hell.  The biggest Devata is water in the world but people still become ghosts after bathing at the Teeraths; placing the bones of their elders there.  One cannot be saved by looking at the moon and stars.  People who are stuck in the way of the world and care about what people think about them, they can do Simran and be saved.  Without love and faith, they will be stuck in the cycle of birth and death.  Their sorrows are never gone.  They have no faith in Parmeshwar and are attracted to the material items of the world.  They come to the Guru, following other people.”  Guru ji whispered into the ear of the Mevra: “If you want to test them, go get a burning wood from the Langar and put it under the dead body.  Make sure nobody sees you doing it.”  The Mevra was surprised to hear this.  He obeyed and got a burning wood piece from the Langar.  He put the piece of wood under the body as per Guru ji’s instruction.  When the heat burnt the body, the old man got up, screaming.  The piece of cloth on top of him was ripped and the man ran away.  The man was so embarrassed that he ran away from the crowd.  He didn’t want to face Guru ji.  The Sangat was amazed to see what Guru ji was doing.  The Sikhs that were doing Keertan were embarrassed as well.  All the people that were faking the drama were embarrassed.  They lowered their heads and did not raise their necks in front of Guru ji.  Guru ji then spoke sarcastically: “your Keertan has been rewarded well.  You sang with love.  You were going to cremate him but it seems that he is going to heaven with his body.  Look at him run.”  The Sikhs bowed their heads and said: “Guru ji, only you know your works.  Nobody can know your Maya.”  The ocean of compassion then said: “this drama that you played, if you would have succeeded, you would have thought you made a fool out of me.  You would have thought that the Guru is just a person like you.  Your trust in Sikhi would have broken.  If the trust is broken, there can be no Mukti.  If the Sikh sees the Guru as a person like you, there will be no Gyaan.  The person will go to Hell if one does not trust the Guru.  I want to save the Sikhs.  That’s why I had to expose your drama.  You will see the Guru as omniscient from now on.  You know the glory of the Guru.”  The Sikhs sitting close to Guru ji (Bhai Aalam Singh ji and Bhai Daya Singh ji) said to Guru ji: “Guru ji, they have tried to cheat you but please forgive them.  They are your Sikhs, after all.  Forgive their mistake.  Please don’t curse them.  May they not face any pain because of this.  You had stopped them from leaving and this is why they did this drama.  They are householders who wanted to go back to their homes.”  Satguru ji heard the request of the Sikhs and blessed the Sikhs who did the fake funeral procession drama.  Guru ji recited a Salok from Gurbani:

I commit many sins, O Lord, of which there is no limit and end..

Oh Hari, please be merciful and pardon me, I am a sinner and a great offender..

(SGGS 1416)

Guru ji was happy and said: “everyone has tasks in their homes.  Go to your homes and do Simran of Satnam.  Do Seva of the Sadh Sangat.  Have trust in the Guru.  Do Keertan and listen to Katha.  Come during Holla and Dusshera to the Guru’s home.”  Everyone heard Guru ji’s blessings and were happy.  They folded their hands and bowed their heads.  They went to their homes after receiving blessings from Guru ji.  They wanted to be blessed by Guru ji, the one whose praise destroys all sins.

3-47 Bhai Anand Singh

Sangat from every direction would come during the Vaisakhi mela.  Thousands came.  Satguru ji was wearing beautiful clothes and weapons.  Guru ji sat on his throne to meet the Sangat.  The warrior Sikhs were in the court, wearing their weapons.  The Sangat was listening to Keertan.  They would come to bow to Guru ji.  The Sangat came bringing horses and weapons.  They would fold their hands and sit.  Some would stay standing.  They couldn’t get enough of looking at Guru ji’s awesome radiance.  Guru ji was wearing his bow and quiver full of arrows.  People bowed to him like people bowed to Ram Chander ji and Krishan ji.  Seeing his radiance, the faith was increased in the hearts of the Sikhs.  The Sangat looked at Guru ji like Chakors.  People were filled with joy seeing Guru ji.

One Sikh came with his Sikhni to see Guru ji.  They both bowed.  They had their hands folded and made a request to Guru ji: “oh giver of peace, true King, you have given us one son which we have married.  Our daughter-in-law is from a good family.  She is a Gursikh as well.  We don’t know what happened, but our son does not speak to his wife.  We tried to speak to our son but he doesn’t listen.  He speaks as though he has no attachment.  He doesn’t see any relation.  He wants to leave home and go to another country to become a Sadhoo.  He wants to do Simran and become a Fakir.  When we try to stop, he doesn’t care.”  Guru ji said to the couple: “go and bring your son to me.”  The Sikh brought his son to Guru ji’s court.  He was around 18 years old.  Guru ji looked at him and said: “are these your parents?  Is this your wife?  They are saying that you want to leave home?  It looks like you are depressed from the world.  I ask you, why did you fall into vairagya?  What is your name?  Who is your teacher that gave you this teaching?  Where do you get inspiration from?  You are around 18.  What happened?  Those who have experienced the pleasures of life do not satiate in their elder years and do not have vairagya.  It seems that you have good karma to get vairagya from the world.  I wanted to see you.”  The young Sikh folded his hands and said: “why are you making fun of me, Saache Paatshaah?  You know who I am.  The world is a scary place that has a fierce flow.  To meet you is the way to cross this world.  You are omniscient.  There is nothing hidden from you.  You are asking me on purpose.  My name is Anand Singh.  I am your Sikh.  I read Gurbani which was my source of vairagya.”  Anand Singh said his life: “what is old, what is young if a person goes to the Guru?  That person will get Mukti, if one boards a ferry, one gets to the other side eventually.  Oh Paatshaah, giver of peace, listen to me: my parents gave me birth and education.  I read Gurbani and love sprung in my heart.  I started to memorize Gurbani.  I started to ponder on Anand Sahib, the teachings, I though about it day and night.  My mind became unattached from the world.

Ramkali Mahalla 3..

Oh beloved mind, remember the true Parmeshwar, this family that you see, will not go with you..  It won’t go with you, so why do you attach your mind to them?  Don’t do this even by mistake, which will make you regretful..

(SGGS 918)

The meanings resided in my mind and I became a Bairagi.  This world seems very small to me.  It seems like a smoky cloud that has no rain in it.  Like a dream is not real, I see all these bodies around me as temporary.  Everyone will leave according to their time.  Once they are gone, I won’t see them again.  This life is just for a few days.  There is no joy everlasting here.  Just like visitors come to stay overnight and leave in the morning; passengers on a ship, crossing the river, all depart and never see each other again; grass meeting in the river, separate and don’t meet again; the milk coming out of the nipples does not go back in; the leaves do not reattach to the branches; my relatives will not see me again after they die; we are all engaged due to destiny, a system of give and take; why should I attach my mind to them and waste my life?  This life may not come again; just as birds come into a nest and then leave one day; I have thought about all this.  Truth and false; speaking and laughing; eating and sleeping; the mind forgets the truth.  I don’t see any use in living in this world.  I have no wish to gain anything in life.  People think something is wrong with me.  I have come to you now for protection.  Your Gurbani has made me like this.”  Satguru ji then said: “your son is fine.  He is right.  Bani has made him Bairagi.  Don’t doubt him.  He is not possessed nor is he sick.  He is fortunate.  Don’t bother him.  He will go home one day.  Leave him here.  You will get another son.  Be patient.  I will tell him what to do.  I will take him on the right path for him.  Leave him here and go home.  Let his wife stay here too.  They will live here as a family and they will understand right from wrong.”  The Sikh and Sikhni obeyed and bowed to Guru ji.  Anand Singh sat near Guru ji, with his hands folded.

One day, Satguru ji called Anand Singh close to him and spoke to him: “listen young man, I want to give you wisdom.  Control your senses and listen to me.  You can do as you wish after I give you wisdom.  I will tell you the path of the householder and the Bihangum.  You can choose which is right for you.  I will tell you the Sakhi of a Nirvirti Sadhoo.  There was a Sadhoo who did Tapasya in a hut in the forest.  He was full of Santokh, contentment.  He stayed in his hut and never went to the village nearby.  He ate whatever the people of the nearby village gave him.  He ate less and didn’t care for taste.  If someone brought Saag, flour, yoghurt, he ate anything.  He ate whatever was given to him.  He accepted the will of Akaal Purakh.  He did yoga by controlling the Puranas and Apanas.  His desires were all controlled.  The Anaahad Chakra of 12 petals, he had that under control.  He understood Yoga well.  There was a time where 7 days had passed and the villagers forgot to bring food for the Sadhoo.  Listen young man, the Sadhoo thought to himself: “Kartar is angry with me.  I have been given hands and feet but I don’t use them to earn my food.  I should make an effort to feed my stomach.  I should go and beg in the village.  Devatas give pain to the person who is lazy.”  He picked up his things: mala, mat, Bairaagan and toomba.  He did not go to the house of the Ghristis without his Sadhoo clothes.  Without his Sadhoo clothes, he would have not been respected by the Ghristis.   The fault of the disrespect would be on the householder and the Sadhoo.  Begging can only happen once a day.  The clothes should be the same style everyday.  One should be happy with what one gets while begging.  Milk is good to receive.  One should not stand too long outside the householder’s home.  Don’t take the food from the day before.  The food should not be touched by dirty hands and it should be from a home which is faithful.  Sikhs and Sadhoos should watch where they eat from.  Cooked food should be eaten.  If one eats without looking at the home, this causes great losses into one’s mind.  If we don’t know about the Rehit of a person, does not do Simran of the Gurmantra, does not recite Bani or go to Sangat, eating their food will make you forget Hari.  The Sadhoo thought about all this and walked towards the market of the village.  There was a wedding of a Shahukaar’s son.  Many people were gathered there.  There was a great crowd there.  The people had everyone seated and gave them food.  The Sadhoo went there and stood by the door.  Nobody asked the Sadhoo to sit for food.  The Sadhoo had Santokh to not ask for anything.  He stood there in the corner all day long.  When it was dark, people ate and went to their homes.  The Sadhoo returned to his hut, hungry.  When it was midnight, 2 messengers of the Devatas from heaven came.  The 2 messengers had torches in their hands.  They came to the Sadhoo’s hut and said: “the Devatas have sent us.  It is Parmeshwar’s command to take you with us to the village.  We are to take you to the Shahukaar’s home and burn his house down.  Akaal Purakh is very angry that the Shahukaar did not feed you.  He has no right to live.  His house is to be burned.  He is a sinner who did not feed a Sadhoo, standing at his door.  We have come for your support.  Show us the home of the Shahukaar.”  The Sadhoo got up and said: “give me a torch as well.”  The messengers gave the Sadhoo a torch.  The Sadhoo said: “I will burn you first.”  The messengers got scared and ran away.  The Sadhoo said: “there is only one Shahukaar, Akaal Purakh, who provides for all.  He sits in every heart.  It is Vishnu’s fault if I didn’t get food.  My Karma was at fault, I can’t blame Vishnu either.  The whole world is forced to do what Kartar makes them do.  If Prabhoo wanted, the Shahukaar would have fed me.  Hari is compassionate, we are under his Maya.  I bow to you but don’t ask me to burn the house of the Shahukaar.  Don’t come back to me if you want to come for this.”  Listen young man, this is how a Tyagi Bairagi should be.  If you are to stay hungry, then tolerate it but don’t judge other people’s faults.  The messengers bowed to the Sadhoo and went back to Akaal Purakh and said: “the Sadhoo passed your test.  He is free from hatred and revenge.  He is definitely a Santokhi Sadhoo.”  Akaal Purakh was happy.  The real king is one who is satiated.  Akaal Purakh sent a vessel and brought the Sadhoo to Sach Khand.  He lived in Sach Khand for eternity.”

3-48 Bhai Anand Singh Part 2

Sri Satguru ji gave wisdom to Anand Singh.  Guru ji said: “listen son, this is the way of Dervishes.  If you wish to be a Dervish, then be the best you can.  I will tell you about the Ghristi path as well.  Listen carefully:

Listen my son, Sikh, this is how a Ghristi should be:

There was a dense jungle.  A pigeon and a hen lived in their nest on top of a dense tree.  They had little squabs with them.  The hen brought food for them.  There was a time where there were really heavy rains for 7 days.  A hunter came with his net to catch birds.  He didn’t find any birds or animals.  The hunter wandered without a hunt.  He eventually came under the tree where the pigeons were.  He was cold and was shivering.  It was night and the hunter got lost.  He was scared and hungry.  He became numb from the cold and crouched under the tree.  His teeth were shivering.  The hen and the pigeon saw the hunter from up above.  The Pigeon said to his hen: “this person seems like a family man.  He looks like he’s in pain.  We are Ghristis and this visitor has come to our home.  The Dharma of Ghristi says that one should look after guests when they come.  Let’s give him food and peace.  We have bodies but Akaal Purakh did not give us hands.  We pick food with our beaks.  Listen my sweet, we should serve him.  He is cold, lets find him warmth.  His clothes are wet.  Just as one makes an effort, Laxmi comes; the person with ambition is not afraid of foreign lands, let’s try to do something.  If one shakes a fan, the wind will come, effort never goes without fruit.”  The pigeon flew away.  He flew about 2 miles away and saw a fire.  He grabbed a burning piece of wood with his beak and brought it back.  He put the fire in front of the hunter.  The pigeon threw his nest on to the fire and the fire got bigger.   The hunter saw the fire and collected more dry wood and put it on to the fire.  He made a big fire for himself and began to warm himself.  He was no longer cold but he was still hungry.

The pigeon said to his hen: “oh Sardarni of my home, raise our squabs with joy.  I will provide food for this hunter.  I will give him my body.”  The hen said: “my Dharam says that I should proved food for the guest.  Without her husband, a female’s body is like hell.  The way to Mukti for a woman is through the man.  Other’s way to Mukti is through the Simran of Ram, the provider.”  The pigeon said: “you are right but a home without a woman is empty.  The man is a warrior only outside of the home.  At home he is useless.”  Listen son, the hen jumped into the fire all of a sudden.  The hunter saw the hen and cooked her.  He ate the hen.  The Pigeon thought to himself: “one bird will not be enough for this human.  He needs more food.  If a Ghristi gives half the food required, that’s a sin.  It is written in the Granths that such a person goes to Hell.”  The pigeon discarded the attachment of his body and jumped into the fire.  The hunter figured out what was going on.  He had love in his heart now.  He thought to himself: “these birds are great that gave their bodies to feed me.  I am a sinner.  I have sinned.  They discarded their attachments to feed me.  I am a human.  I will discard my attachment and do Tapasya now.”  He had love in his heart and began to cry.  Akaal Purakh sent messengers to bring the pigeon and hen to Sach Khand.  The whole family of the pigeons was brought to Sach Khand.  The hunter eventually received Mukti by his Tapasya and went to Sach Khand.  They reached the dimension which had no end to bliss.  Listen Anand Singh, this is the path of Ghristi.  This is the Parvirti path.  I ask you son, which path do you prefer?  Which would you like to follow?  The aim is Mukti.  It is not to choose Nirvirti or Parvirti.  It is based on preference.  Other than these two paths, there is only useless wandering.  A Bairagi who just collects food and a Ghristi who does not give, both go to Hell.  There are many Ghristis and many Sadhoos.  Only some pass.  This is the Divaan of the Guru, speak the truth in front of me.  Be a Ghristi or a Sadhoo like the ones I described.  Which path do you like?  Out of all the 4 Yugas, out of all the Bhagats there ever were, Kabeer is the Sardar, the leader.  He showed everyone how to be a Bhagat, living in Ghrist.  He showed how to do Jog, as he lived a householder’s life by doing Simran.”

Nand Singh heard this and folded his hands.  He bowed to Kalgidhar ji’s feet and said with humility: “I obey your commands.  I love your wisdom.  Because I am already married, I will not leave my wife.  I will live a householder’s life; but my mind will still remain Bairagi.  I am lazy.  I do not wish to work.  I only like to recite Bani all the time.  I will do as much Seva of Sikhs as I can.”  When Guru ji heard that Nand Singh was lazy, the ocean of compassion said: “do Seva in the presence of the Guru.  Whatever heavy tasks come on to your head, the Singhs of the Guru will share the weight.  Your household tasks will not stop.  The Guru will make sure of that.  In my last birth, you used to serve my horse.  Your name was Mundoo.  One midnight I said to you: “go and see if the horse is okay and has eaten.  Go and see what the horse needs.”  You heard this and lied to me.  You were lazy.  You said: “I have already put enough feed for the horse.  I prepared it nicely.”  I knew that you were lying and so I said: “you lazy person!  How is your household going to run?  You can’t handle a horse; a house is way too much for you then.  You are lying to your Guru.”  You stared to cry.  You grabbed my feet and said: “I am poor and you’re the saviour of the poor.  You cursed me and destroyed me.  Save me from the Jumms.”  When you said that, I felt sorry for you and said: “whatever happens to you, I will help you.  In the first quarter of Kaliyuga, there will be a lot of sins.  To keep the Dharma and start the Panth, I will come as the Guru Avatar, the 10th incarnation of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  I will come after thousands of years of Tapasya.  You will come with me.”  You now come to me again but your laziness followed you.  Stay here and I will support you in your household.  Stay here with me, I will look after you.  Bring your wife here too and don’t be afraid of anything.  The ones who believe that the Guru is with them, their tasks are never blocked.  I will protect and assist you.  I will save you from all the troubles.”  Anand Singh was happy and bowed to Guru ji’s feet.  The whole Sangat heard this and were in a state of serenity.  The Sangat was amazed of how the personality follows a person from birth to birth.  The way of the Guru is amazing.  His qualities cannot be quantified.  The Guru is happy with a little Seva.  The way of the Satguru is great who does not let his Sikhs go to Hell.  Nand Singh brought his wife and began to live in Anandpur.  He was lazy but he did his best to do Seva.  He eventually got better at it.  He did Seva near Guru ji.  Guru ji made his life great.  He became Ghristi and listened to Guru ji’s words.  He became fortunate and won the battle of life.

3-49 Mala Singh and Lahora Singh

In this way, Satguru ji took care of the Sikhs.  He gave the Sikhs everything in abundance.  As the month of Vaisakh passed, Guru ji would mount his horse and ride through the jungles.  He would admire the trees and the fruits.  He would look at the different coloured flowers and be happy.  He would hunt in the jungles and then return home.  If he would hear about anyone causing trouble, he would go with the Singhs to punish them.  Some people would meet Guru ji and give him gifts, in turn, Guru ji and the Singhs would protect them.  The Khalsa would loot the ones that were proud of their strength.

In this way, summer passed and the rains came.  The clouds covered the skies.  There was greenery everywhere because of the rains.  Guru ji would hear the peacocks and the frogs.  He loved hearing the sounds of nature.  The giver of joy and Mukti, was in bliss in Anandpur.  It was Bhadron and the rivers flowed full.  The home of Guru ji was on a higher elevation.  Guru ji was laying down on the roof, as it was cooler there.  There was a cool breeze that passed above on the roof.  The Singhs sprayed fragrances around him.  Jasmines and other flowers were hung around.  The wind would caress the flowers and spread their fragrances all around.  Sandalwood, rose essences and saffron was sprayed.  The bed was beautiful with fine fabrics.  There were zarri strands hanging from the legs.  Fine silk ties were holding the bed together.

The houses of the Singhs were all around Guru ji’s home.  Guru ji could hear the kids playing in their homes at night.  A person named Lahora Singh was in charge of playing with the Sahibzadas, his house was close by.  Another neighbour was Mala Singh.  Mala Singh used to give loans for interest to people.  This was his way of living.  He was a devoted Sikh of the Guru who had moved to Anandpur at the call of the Guru.  He was well-natured and didn’t bother poor people who couldn’t pay their payments.  Because he was a nice person, people took advantage of him.  He eventually took losses and was getting poor.  Lahora Singh had borrowed 100 Rajitpuns from Mala Singh to start his own work.  It had been a while since he borrowed the loan.  Mala Singh would ask for the payments but Lahora Singh would make excuses.  Mala Singh had no more money to loan out.  Mala Singh was not able to make ends meet.  His wife said: “why do you not ask Lahora Singh for your money?  We need it now, so you should tell him.  The children have nothing to eat and we need money for clothes.  Why is he not giving the money and making excuses?  It is night now, we need money in the morning.  Go now and ask for our money back.”  Mala Singh went to Lahora Singh and said to him: “please give me my money.  You haven’t given my money back for so long.  I come everyday, why are you being stubborn?”  They got into an argument and started shouting.  Lahora Singh laughed and said: “if a Sikh eats another Sikh’s, what’s there to worry about?  You should stop worrying about it.”  Mala Singh got angry.  Lahora Singh continued: “whatever is in one’s destiny, that is what happens.”  Mala Singh got angrier and said: “you stole my money and now you are trying to give me wisdom?  You are cheating me.  I am here to get my money.  The one’s with bad intentions are punished in the court of Akaal Purakh.  They are beaten by the Jumms.”  Lahora Singh heard this and said:

There is no give or take if one is saved by the Guru.

(SGGS 1096)

Guru ji heard the line of Bani from his roof.  Guru ji thought to himself: “both are my Sikhs.  Lahora Singh is cheating the other Sikh.  He has thrown his greed on to the Guru to save him.  He did a wrong thing and now he’s using Gurbani to prove himself right.  I don’t want his weight to come on the Guru.”  Guru ji shouted from his roof: “don’t’ eat and spend by fraudulent ways.  Stand in the presence of the Guru with your hands folded.  Understand and think about everything you do and make sure you don’t violate the Dharma.  The Guru will punish or give rewards accordingly.”

Guru ji responded to Lahora Singh’s argument.  When Lahora Singh heard Guru ji, he got scared.  He was proven false and went quiet.  He started speaking softly: “Mala Singh, come in the morning.  I’ll give you back your money.  I was only joking.  Forgive me.  I will give you your money.”  Mala Singh went to his own home.

In the morning, Guru ji bathed and put his expensive clothes and weapons on.  He entered his court and sat on his throne.  The Sikhs came into the court.  Lahora Singh called Mala Singh and paid him his 100 Rajitpuns back.  They were both happy, as Lahora Singh was loan-free and Mala Singh got his money back.  They bathed and came to Guru ji’s court.  They folded their hands.  Lahora Singh bowed and spoke to Guru ji to apologize: “the Sikh separated from the Guru by greed.  The Guru forgives.  Let go of your anger and forgive me.  We are always making mistakes.  We are stuck in the worldly ways and see it as the truth.”  Guru ji laughed and said: “don’t follow backward ways.  This is the command of the Guru, this is what Vedas say as well: don’t act out of desire, greed or anger.  Make your mind free of desire and corruption.  Follow the path of the Sadhoo.”  Guru ji had Lahora Singh and other Sikhs sit close to him and was going to give them wisdom.  He was going to give them the wisdom of Mukti called the Mukatnama.  Many scholar, warriors and great Sikhs were sitting in the court, while Guru ji spoke.

Satguru ji gave wisdom to everyone sitting in the court.  He showed the correct actions to get rid of one’s corrupt ideology: “listen Gursikhs, the wisdom from the Guru.  Whoever follows this, their troubles will be gone.  This is called the “Mukatnama.”  That person will go to the Guru in Sach Khand.  A Sikh should never take loans.  If one takes a loan, it should be returned in due time.  Do not listen to lies and do not speak them either.  Do not find joy in lies.  Be a Satsangi and gain the rewards of the virtues.  Increase your love for the truth.  Keep the Maryada of the truth in your heart.  Don’t have treachery or corruption in your mind.  Earn an honest living without lying.  There are some important things to consider though.  There are very minute distinctions in this.  If speaking the truth will get someone killed, then you need to think about it before you say it.  Do not speak such a truth.  Consider where good-will lies.  I will tell you a Gatha about this.  There was a Brahmin sitting and doing Simran.  There was a cow that ran away from a butcher.  The butcher came looking for the cow and came upon the Brahmin.  The butcher asked the Brahmin: “did you see a cow?”  The Brahmin pointed towards the direction in which the cow had went.  The butcher went and found the cow.  He killed the cow.  In such situations, let go of the truth and speak a lie to save a life.  In any other state, only speak the truth with love.

As a Sikh, do not eat the food which is partially eaten by another.  Do not love money.  Always share and then consume.  Do not sit bare-headed for a long period of time.  Do not be bare-headed while eating food or engaging in coitus.  Don’t drink water without your head covered.  Read Japji Sahib, Jaap Sahib and say the name of the Guru before eating anything in the morning.  Say “Tva Prasaad” before eating anything.  Do not look at naked women.  Don’t think of women in unorthodox ways.  Don’t touch the tools of a barber, other’s wealth or people with low thinking.  Do not eat Halal meat where scriptures are read.  Do not eat pigs that you have raised.  After passing waste, wash your hands, feet and face.  Also gargle after passing waste.  Wash your hands with sand.  Wash yourself with water.  Take a bath with cold water.  If your body cannot tolerate it, then bathe with warm water.  Don’t go a whole day without taking a bath.  Don’t eat without taking a bath.  It is sinful to eat without bathing.  Keep a sanitary life and practice the strictest hygiene.  Stay independent and unique from the world.  Meet everyone and do business with them but keep your lifestyle and ideology unique and independent.  Stay away from tobacco.  It is the dirtiest thing in the world.  Don’t wear red-coloured clothes.  Don’t wear surma in your eyes.  Don’t sleep without your Kachera or take a bath without it.  Only change your Kachera one leg at a time.  Do Simran of Parmeshwar all the time.  Recite Kirtan Sohila before going to sleep.  It will destroy your obstacles.  Keep faith in the Guru.  Take the Pahul of the Guru and keep the Rehit.  Stay in your religion.  Don’t follow others’ ideologies.  Eat at the homes of Gursikhs.  Only marry your daughter into the house of other Sikhs.  Don’t take loans.  Stop your children from going to bad places such as places of gambling, bars and casinos.  Stop your wife from going to these places as well.  Recite the Gurmantra, day and night.  Do your work after Nitnem.  Do not be greedy for the money of Pooja.  Eat less Karah Prashaad.  Take the food that the Guru has touched.  Accept the Prashaad given by the Ardaasia.  The person who distributes the Prashaad should given in equal amounts.  That person should not be jealous or greedy.  If one keeps Langar out of greed, that person will be sick and poor.  If a Sikh is eating Langar, do not get up before completing.  If one has to get up (in case of an attack), don’t eat again.  Be cautious of Turks who are looking to cause you harm or convert you.  Don’t doubt Sikhs.  If one becomes a Sikh, coming from any caste, do not discriminate against them.  Sikhs from all castes are brothers and sisters.  Feed others and yourself with great respect.  Don’t follow the ideologies of other faiths.  Don’t do Pooja of the Devi when one has the illness of Seetala.  Don’t take their Prashaad.  The Turks who are tyrants are a disease.  Don’t eat food on which the Kalma has been read.  A Brahman that loots people; a Sikh who fools people with their clothes; a woman with bad character; a back-stabber; let go of all these people in an instant.  Don’t go to the kusangat or meet with kusangis.

To make Karah Prashaad, take a bath and clean the preparation area.  Take flour, ghee and sugar in equal amounts.  Do the recitation of Japji Sahib while preparing it.  Do the Ardaas of the Prashaad in front of the Guru.  Fold your hands and stand while doing Ardaas.  Wear the Kachera, Dastaar and Shasters while doing it.  Prepare it with faith and devotion.  All the tasks will be fulfilled.  Do not call a Sikh with his/here half name.  Say Singh or Kaur after their name.  Whoever says the half name, they will be in the net of the Jumms.  Do not consider a marriage without the Anand ceremony.  Don’t indulge in sexual acts for pleasure.  A Sikh should not sleep during dusk or dawn.  One should do the Simran of Parmeshwar during that time.  Don’t go near impurity.  Don’t keep your hair open.  Do a Joora.  Give the Dasvand to the Guru.  Brush your teeth with water.  Recite Gurbani and bow your head.  Don’t marry into the castes of your paternal and maternal ancestors.  Marry into the family of other Gursikhs.  These are the ways of the Gursikhs.  Only have faith in the Guru.

If a Sikh dies, cremate the body and distribute the Karah Prashaad.  Don’t cry too much during that time.  Let go of sorrow and embrace bliss.  Don’t cry out loud.  Read Gurbani and do Keertan.  Sit in Vairagya and listen to Bani.  Call Saints and Sikhs and do a Langar at the death bhog.  Provide Langar, clothes and money to the Sikhs who recite the Gurbani, as per your abilities.  Do not go against the ways of the Vedas.  Traditions should be according to the Sikh Maryada, though.  Do not shave your head at any cost.  It is the stamp of the Guru.  An Amrtidhari should abide by the Rehit and not listen to the Brahmins and shave their head.  If one shaves their hair by listening to another, they will be excommunicated and will suffer at the hands of the Jumms.  They will go to Hell.  Nobody will save them.  See the stamp of the Guru, the hair, just as you see the Guru.  Respect the hair just like the Guru.  The one who cuts their hair, being a Sikh, don’t meet with them.  Don’t drink their water and do not keep familial relations with them.  If one gives them food or water, they will be part of their Karma.  Do not befriend the Turk who forces their traditions unto you.  Don’t adapt to the ways of the Shariya after learning Farsi.  In death, birth, children and wedding situations, if one makes a mistake, ask for forgiveness and take the Tankhaa.  Do not take food from the person with shorn hair.  Don’t worship statues or take their Charanamrit.  Don’t eat Paans.  The way of the Varan Ashram is to cause conflicts.  My Sikh will not fall into this.  Don’t follow into the rituals of the world, family or Devata traditions.  The Sikh will take wisdom from the Guru and have faith.  If one is born in the house of the Guru, which the Vedas call great, respect and honor them.  Do not give pain to Tapasvis, Jap, donators, Gurus, parents, scholars or kings.  The scholars of the Vedas cry without the Vedas, sinners cry as well; the one who turns their back from the Guru, or cursed by the Guru cry; the ill cry.  The one who comes to my home, they should only love the word of the Guru.  Make the wisdom of the Guru dwell in your heart and live by the Rehit.  The one who lives by the Rehit will get the highest status, where no one else can reach; where Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva cannot reach; where the disciples of Shankaracharya, Dattatray, Ramanuja, Gorakh or Mohammed’s cannot reach.  The Khalsa will reach that high of a status where there is no Kaal.  Just as rains cause plants and life to grow, that is how a Sikh who listens to the Guru grows.  The Guru rewards that Sikh.  This is the Mukatnama, my beloved ones.  If one bathes at Mukatsar while reading this, their bad karma will wash away.  That Sikh will go to the Guru’s home when he/she dies.”

Guru Gobind Singh ji stated the Rehit to the Sangat: “they will not come in the 84, who will listen to and follow this.  The ones who follow the good Rehani, their sins will be washed away and they will receive Mukti.  The ones who are stuck in the trap of the world, just as a fish caught in the net, don’t listen to them as they do not believe in the Rehit of the Guru.  They are full of doubt and have no faith in the Guru.  They see the world as the truth.  One should only listen to the Guru.”  Guru ji stated the wise Rehit to all.  It started from the Lahora Singh and Mala Singh situation.  Anand Singh was given this wisdom as well.  Everyone heard this and were in Anand, bliss.
