1-71 Dhroo Parsang
The unknowable, without form, without end; the Prabhoo; whose ways cannot be known; I bow to his lotus feet. He is fearless and carefree.
Sri Bala Sandhur Vaach..
Sri Guru Angad Dev ji, listen to the history: the Giver of Joy went on ahead. He left all the stars behind and went higher. Bhai Mardana ji asked: “tell me oh great Prabhoo, I don’t see any other star now; In which direction are we going? Where is this light coming from? It is white and joyful.” Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji said: “the stars are all below us now. You can see them below. They are illuminating bright. We are heading to the Dhroo Tara (Polaris – the North Star). It is really bright. In a small age Bhagat Dhroo did a great Tapp. He obtained the highest and still-standing kingdom. His radiance remains in the sky.” Bhai Mardana ji, the fortunate one, spoke as he wished to hear the Katha of Dhruv: “Sri Guru ji, his Katha, how he received this high status, why he did this great Tapp in such a young age, he made the Prabhoo happy, withstanding all this pain; tell me his Katha and let’s go to see him.” Guru ji heard this and said: “listen to Dhruv’s Prasang with focus. Mardana, there was a king, a long time ago whose name was Shamboo (Swayambhuva) Manu. His wife was Satroopa. They had two beautiful sons: Priyabhrat; whose wheels of his chariots made the 7 seas of the world; the second son was Uttaanpadh, who ruled the world. He had two wives: Saroochi and Suneeta. Saroochi was beloved to him and his favourite. She lived in his heart like she had bought him. Suneeta, he did not love. Dhruv was born to Suneeta. When Dhruv was 5 years old, he went, one day, to where his father was sitting. He went laughing. He came and sat into his father’s lap with love. He sat with eagerness. His step-mother saw this and became angry. She grabbed Dhruv with force and pulled him up. She spoke very harsh words: “you aren’t deserving of sitting in your father’s lap. If you wished for this status, do a strict japp and Tapp. Fast and do Sadhana. Let go of your body. You will then be fortunate and be born from my womb. Then you can take the kingdom and sit in your father’s lap.” She scolded Dhruv with anger in her eyes.
Dhruv cried in humility. The Raja was under his wife’s control. He did not defend Dhruv. Dhruv cried as his step-mother’s words were like arrows to his heart. Dhruv was really angry, like a snake had been provoked. His lips trembled and he took deep breaths. He came to his own mother’s room. She saw her son’s depressed face and was in pain. She heard from others of what had happened. She began to cry as well. She was upset at what Saroochi had done. It was like a vine drying up. Her face was depressed. She took her son into her lap, took a deep birth and said: “listen son, understand this world: joy and pain are not given by anyone. It is the fruit of our Karma. Good deeds from previous births became joy; sins became pain. Your step-mother spoke the truth. You were born from my womb. I am unfortunate. I am like a maid. If you wish for the Singhasan and kingdom, do the Simran of Prabhoo with focus. Many have served him. Brahma received the Brahm status from doing the Prabhoo’s Seva. Your grandfather, Shvambhu Mun collected a lot of items and did a Yagna. He did the Simran of Hari and received joy. He became one with the Prabhoo in the end. For this reason, with your words, body and action, go to the sanctuary of the creator, whom is sought by the greatest Munnis. Do his Simran. You will be rewarded quickly.” Dhruv heard his mother’s great wisdom. He gathered his courage and patience; and left his home and city like it was a piece of grass, placing no value for it.
The fortunate Dhruv went to the Madhuban jungle. Naarad ji heard the whole story. He met Dhruv on the way, quickly. The king of the Rishis understood Dhruv’s state. He put his head on the boy’s head with a lot of love. Dhruv was really soft and young. He had heard his step-mother’s words which made him upset. Naarad ji laughed and said: “child, you are young. You shouldn’t care about respect or disrespect. Don’t worry about these things. It is your age to play and eat. Why are your turning your back towards them? Why are you going against the tradition? You are young and wish for Gyaan. Listen to my words: when a person receives Gyaan, enemies, friends, pain and joy are the same then. To do the Tapp is useless for you. Go back to your home and live in joy. Whatever joy your step-mother gives you, however little it may be, receive it with joy. Be content and live in your home. My child, there is no joy in the jungle. Whatever your mother said to you, if you wish to receive that status, there is a lot of danger there. The Parmeshwar that Munis and Jogis are trying to find, it is hard to do his Tapp. You have to do the Tapp for a very long time in a strict way. Many efforts are required. You still can’t find him after doing all that. The Sri Bhagwant, they find his lotus feet. You are young. Go home. When you grow up, then you can wish for this.” Hearing the Munivar, Dhurv folded his hands and said: “you speak the truth in every way but I still don’t like it. I am not a grown up and not wise. The words of my step-mother hurt my heart. I am in pain. I don’t wish to go back home. You are always altruistic and go everywhere for this reason. The status where my grandfather did not reach, I wish to receive that status. Please tell me about that path. This will be a blessing for me.”
Naarad, who was radiant and a Gyaani like the sun, he was holding the Veena and was drenched in bliss; he heard the devotional words of Dhruv and saw his determination. He was happy. He said: “I was testing you. Oh child, you have faith. You wish for your Mukti. Whatever your mother said to you, that is the correct path. Sri Kartaar is the mine of all virtues. Serve him with your mind, actions and words. Dharam, Arth, Kaam and Moksha; the one who wishes for all this, they should go to the sanctuary of Vasudev. That is the shelter which gives all 4 gifts. Go to the Madhavan, along the shores of the Ganga. Sit in the Asana of Jog. Do the Prana yam in a great way. Your heart will become pure and soft. Focus your attention on the Sri Prabhoo, the complete. It is the Shyam form, the most beautiful. His face is beautiful and round like the full moon. His eyes are beautiful with a mesmerizing sight. He smiles. His lips are red and beautiful. He has 4 arms with 4 armlets. He holds the gurj, Chakar, conch and the lotus. He wears earrings and yellow clothes. He ties bells around his waist. He is the root of beauty. His feet have golden bells. In his neck, he wears a beautiful Vajanti Mala. Focus on this form. Stop your mind and be alert from desires. I will give you the secret mantra. Chant it for 7 days properly. You will meet the Devatas and be in joy.
“Om Namo Vasudev Bhagwat,” chant this mantra by making your mind still. Do the Pooja with sandalwood and flowers, with love.” Dhruv heard this with focus. He bowed to Naarad ji’s feet and headed to the jungle. He reached the Madhuban and started his Tapp, where Jamuna’s waters are pure.
Naarad came to Uttaanpadh’s home, who was depressed, knowing that his son left his home. He saw Naarad ji and respected him. He worshipped his feet and greeted him. Naarad ji, the great, spoke: “oh king, why do you not look well? Has your Dharma or Arth been spoiled?” The king heard this and said: “oh Muni, I am a lustful and foolish person. I remain attached with women. My son of 5 years old, I let him go without fault. He has now gone to do Tapp in the jungle. He must be suffering hunger, thirst, heat and cold. How can he tolerate this great pain? There’s no one to protect him. Some animal may eat him.” The Munni king heard the compassionate words and said: “don’t worry about your son. Ishwar lives everywhere. Your son is doing a great Tapp in the jungle. He will achieve a higher status than the Lokpal. He will come back to you in a few days. He will be glorified in the world and so will you.” The Muni departed after saying this.
The Raja stopped thinking about his kingdom. Dhruv was doing a great Tapp. He ate fruits every 3 days. He did Pooja for 1 month. In the 2nd month he ate only grass. In the 3rd month he ate dry leaves. He did the Simran of the Mine of Joys. He ate leaves every 9 days, which were dry, along with water. In the 4th month, he ate every 12 days. In the 5th month he became Pavan Ahaari (extracting nourishment from the wind). He was victorious over his breaths. He stood on one foot and did Tapp. He stood steady like a tree on one toe. He stopped his mind in every way. His focus was fixed in the feet of Sri Kartaar, the Bhagvaan, the lord of Mahitat, Ahankaar and Prakriti. His focus was still. He stood with determination. He stopped his breath. The whole earth began to tremble. Everyone’s breath stopped. Chaos spread in the world. Everyone was anxious. The Devatas went to Hari. They praised Vishnu with a still mind and said: “oh Ishwar, why have the breaths stopped? The world is in pain. They can’t breathe. Give joy to all.” Sri Bhagwant ji spoke: “don’t be afraid. The pain will be gone. The child Bhagat is doing a stubborn Tapp. He started a strict Tapp. I will go to him as his Tapp is complete. The breaths will start again for everyone.” The immortal ones, the Devatas, heard this and left to their own dimensions.
Sri Bhagwant ji mounted Garuda and came to where Dhruv was doing his Tapp. He was in a Samadhi, stopping his Munn and Indrees. He only thought of the Keshav. He had his beautiful form in his heart. He didn’t see the Bhagwan in front of him. When Sri Hari ji made his form disappear from Dhruv’s heart, Dhruv opened his lotus eyes. He saw the same form in front of him. He bowed down onto the ground like a stick, bowing to the Prabhoo. He looked towards Bhagawan. Sri Kartaar wanted to hug Dhruv. Dhruv could not praise the Prabhoo but he wanted to. He folded his hands and stood. Sri Hari ji knew what Dhruv wanted. He touched his conch with Dhruv’s mouth. Dhruv received the Gyaan. His wisdom became radiant. He gave him the Gyaan of Ishwar and Jeev. Dhruv then praised the glories of Prabhoo. His heart was filled with Prema Bhagti. He said: “I bow to your lotus feet. You made my wisdom radiant and great. You are the master of Rama; oh Ishwar, Bhagwant. You are the omniscient one who knows every heart. You live in all life forms; plants and animals. You live in everything. You created everything and then reside in them. The ones who don’t do the Simran of your feet, they go to hell and feel pain. The ones who are drenched in the love of your feet, they make their mind into bees. They are in bliss. They are never faced by jumms. They cross this world without effort. They become great and save their families. Give me the Sangat of such people. I will listen to them singing your praises with love. My wisdom is less. I wish to sing your praises my whole life. You are the One Brahm form. You are the string in the mala, connecting all. I can’t know anything else about you. What can I say? I am not wise.”
The Compassionate One heard his servant’s words and became happy. He said: “oh son of the king, listen to me, I know what is inside your heart. Take the highest status that you wanted. No Sur or Asura has ever reached it. The 9 Grehs and 27 Nakshatras will do your Parkarma with purity. Your father will go to the jungle to do the Tapp. He will give you his kingdom. You will rule for 36,000 years. You will then receive the blissful status. Your brother, Uttam, he will always be engrossed in hunting. He will die in the jungle. Your step-mother will go to look for him in the jungle but she will burn in a forest fire. You will rule the whole kingdom. You will do Yagna and Simran to remember me. You will receive the highest status. Everyone will bow to you with their hands folded. It is my command that you go back home. Your mother and father are worried and want you to come home.” After saying this, Sri Bhagwant, the Master, disappeared. His Darshan makes all the pains go away. Serve his lotus feet with love.
1-72 Dhruv Parsang
The feet of Sri Guru ji are the ocean of bliss. I make my mind into a fish of that ocean. I state the pure Katha which will give the listeners joy and peace.
Sri Bala Sandhur Vaach..
Sri Guru Angad Dev ji, listen to the history of how Guru ji showed the illumination to Bhai Mardana ji. The Deen Dayala said: “Dhruv went back to his home. Uttaanpadh heard of his son’s return. He was really happy to hear this. The Brahmin who gave him the news, Uttaanpadh gave him clothes, jewellery and a chariot. Uttaanpadh took the Brahmin and went on ahead to receive his son. He had Dhundhabs and Narsinghas played. The Brahmins did the recitations of the Vedas. Saroochi and Suneeta mounted a palanquin and went on ahead. Uttam, the brother of Dhruv, travelled with the other people. They all went to welcome Dhruv. Uttaanpadh saw his son’s face. It was radiant. Uttaanpadh blossomed seeing his son, like a lotus seeing the sun. He got off his chariot and bowed to his son and hugged him. He was a wise person. He wished to see his son and was anxious. He hugged him tightly. His throat swelled with emotion. He kissed his son’s forehead and touched his head. He shed tears, which landed on Dhruv’s body. He spoke with sweet words and respected him a lot. The 2 mothers then came to see Dhruv. Dhruv bowed to his mothers. They blessed him with a Chiranjeevi life. They hugged him and received joy. Uttam met Dhruv and hugged him. Uttam had love in his heart for his brother. Both brothers mounted a she-elephant and came back home. They all came back home and celebrated.
The Raja said to his servants: “go and decorate every home.” The servants decorated the doors with banana stalks. Pearl strands were tied to the doors. Kumkum, sandalwood and other essences were sprinkled. Golden plates had divas lit in the them. The women stood at their doors to show the king. They sang songs, who had voices like cuckoos. Their eyes were beautiful. They sang beautiful songs to mark the occasion. The palace had gold and gems on the floors and on the walls. The Attaris were made of crystals and had golden domes on top. Beautiful canopies were hung. The Raja sat under a canopy and had his wise son become the king. He had him meet the whole public. Everything was handed over to Dhruv.
When the Raja became old, he decided to go to the jungle for Tapp. He went and Dhruv ruled. He was a great Bhagat of Sri Vishnu ji. The Prajapati Sisumaar, his daughter Bhrami was married to Dhruv. They had two sons: Vatsara and Kalpa. (He also married Ila and had a son named Utkala with her).
His brother Uttam went deer hunting into a thick jungle one day. He got into a conflict with Kuber’s servants, the Jachs. They had a fierce battle. By the strike of their great weapons, Uttam was killed. His mother, Saroochi, went searching for Uttam. There was a forest fire there which killed Saroochi. When Dhruv heard of their deaths, he became sad. He wanted to win the world in a fit of Rage. He mounted his chariot and headed north, where the Jachs lived. He came close to Kuber’s Alkapuri. He blew his conch as a call to war. When the Jachs heard this, they all came outside. They were very strong. They took their weapons and came. A great battle raged. Sharp arrows flew. The Jachs were injured by Dhruv and returned with anger. They were like injured snakes but couldn’t face Dhruv. They roared with ego. In a single charge, the Jachs all shot their arrows upon Dhruv. The spears and Gurjs were used. Many weapons over-shadowed Dhruv’s chariot. His chariot was filled with weapons like many clouds covering the sun; like rain covering a mountain. All the weapons were thrown by the Jachs. The sky was trembling. Everyone thought that Manu’s family was going to be destroyed. The Jachs were happy to see this. They roared in pride. Dhruv saw an opportunity and took his chariot out of the chaos like the sun comes out of the fog. He took his bow and showered many arrows onto the Jachs, injuring them. They ran away in pain. Their bodies were pierced with arrows. They were proud but had to run now. Dhruv pierced their foreheads, arms and legs. The ones that were in front, they were killed. Many Jachs laid cut on the ground like a cut jungle. Like the cloud runs by the wind, that’s how the surviving Jachs ran away. They used their Maya to throw rocks, mountains, feces, urine, blood and other things. All these things showered from the sky. Boars, lions, panthers, snakes and horses yelled as if a Parlo was coming. The Jachs wanted to destroy Dhruv’s army. They made other illusions. Dhruv collected his strength and took out is Narayanastra. He mounted his bow with it and destroyed the Maya of the Jachs. When the arrow flew, it killed all of the Jachs in a second. Many limbs were cut. Some ran away in fear. It was like the snakes running away from Garud.
The grandfather of Dhruv came with compassion. Shamboo Manu appeared in front of Dhruv and said: “don’t kill the innocent Jachs. You are the Bhagat of Hari. Have compassion on them. Calm your anger down. Don’t kill them. They only killed one of your brothers. You killed many of them. When you were a child, you did the Simran of Vishnu. You achieved the complete Gyaan. The same Aatma is in all. Recall your Gyaan and have Vivek. What you are doing is wrong. Son, stop your battle now.” Manu gave his grandson Gyaan and stopped the fighting Dhruv. Manu then went back to his place. Kuber came to Dhruv and praised him: “you are Dhan, oh Bhagat of Hari. You obeyed your Pitamah and renounced your anger. Your brother was not killed by a Jach. You did not kill any Jach. The reason for death was the Kaal. Nobody knows how Kaal kills. Me, mine, and yours; only the Pandit understands that this is just ego. You are wise and a treasure of Gyaan. You became a Bhagat as a child. You earned Bhagti. I am very impressed and happy with you. Ask for a boon from me.” Dhruv ji spoke in a good way: “may my love remain steady for the feet of Sri Prabhoo ji. I wish to cross this world with ease. I wish for this boon from you.” Kuber said: “Evmast! It shall be so.” He went back to his home.
Dhruv came back to his city. He was praised by all humans and Devatas. He ruled the earth in this way for a long time. He gave the rewards of the Yagna to the feet of Hari. He was engrossed in Prema Bhagti. His subjects were in peace by his Bhagti. He ruled for 36,000 years. Dharam, Arth, and Kaam were not harmed for his subjects in any way. Everyone had everything. He saw the world as finite. It was like a dream to him. He let it go, seeing it of no value. He gave his kingdom to his son and then went to the jungles. He bathed in the Ganga and sat down there. He went into Jog Samadhi and made the Dyata (focuser), Dhyaan (focus) and Dhay (the one focused upon) into one. All three were one for him. He was in the Nirvakalap Samadhi. The world did not exist for him. His mind did not move again.
Some time passed in this way. He was drenched in Prema Bhagti. A vessel came from Sach Khand which was really radiant. The Kinkars, the servants of Bhagavan, came. They all looked like Vishnu. They all had 4 arms and were young. Their faces were like the moon. They wore a crown, earrings and garlands around their necks. The Kinkars stayed close to Bhagvan. They bowed to Dhruv’s feet and said: “oh Raaj Kumar, you did the Bhagti in a young age. You made the Master of the Universe happy. The Prabhoo sent us to you. It is his command to bring you to him. Enjoy the blissful peace. You have the status which the 7 Rishis wish for. They were not able to receive the status after doing a lot effort which you have achieved. Surya, Inder and the Grehs; they will do your Parkarma with love. Your Pitamah and others have done a lot of Tapp. Nobody has reached as high as you have. Mount this vessel quickly. Enjoy the bliss which lasts forever.” Dhruv heard the Kinkars and bathed in the Ganga. He bowed to all the Rishis that were with him. They were all happy and blessed Dhruv. Dhruv worshipped the vessel and did 3 Parkarmas of it. He bowed to the Ganns of Bhagavan and mounted the vessel with joy. The Devatas played the Nagaras and conches. They showered flowers on Dhruv ji and shouted “Jai, Jai!” The vessel, which gave joy, went to the highest place, where no one has reached before. Listen Guru Angad Dev ji, Guru Nanak Dev ji said this Katha to Bhai Mardana ji. Bhai Mardana ji said: “Sri Prabhoo ji, let’s go and meet Sri Dhurv ji, whose life your spoke about. I wish to see him now.” Sri Guru ji said: “listen Mardana, let’s go. I will show you his place.”
We then travelled at that time. We came to Dhruv’s dimension. When we arrived, Dhruv ji was walking around. He saw us coming and thought to himself: “who are these 3 humans? With what power were they able to come here?” When we came close to Dhruv ji, we all said: “Sri Kartaar, Kartaar!” Dhruv ji heard this and asked: “who are you? You are from the earth. How did you come here? How did you know how to come here? Where are you going from here? It is a hard path to travel here. Devatas or Daanavs, did they not stop or hurt you? This has never happened before. Nobody has come here with their earthly body. You must have crossed all the treacherous mountains on the way.” Sri Guru ji said: “Satnam Karta Purakh; I did his Bhagti. I came here with his power. I recognized the path and came to your place. When I thought of the Sri Kartaar, every path became easy. We are going to see the Nirankaar. Daanav and Devatas have connected to my feet. I wish for yours and Parmeshwar’s Darshan. Give us a boon so we may see him quickly. You are the complete Bhagat who became complete in a young age. Your glory is great. My name is Nanak. I wish for the Darshan of the Bhagats which gives joy.” When Dhruv heard Guru ji’s name, he folded his hands and bowed to Guru ji. He said: “I have already heard about you. I have heard that the Prabhoo took an Avatar on the Earth. You came to give me your Darshan. You have blessed my eyes and my vision.” Sri Guru Angad Dev ji, listen, oh Mind of Joy; we spoke to Dhruv with joy. The Master of the Universe sat with Dhruv for a long time.” The Kavi, Santokh Singh, bows to Guru ji’s lotus feet.
1-73 Meeting Akaal Purakh in Sach Khand
The Sangat of saints is an amazing Sarovar. Taking a dip in this Sarovar makes a crow into a cuckoo; a heron into a swan.
Sri Bala Sandhur Vaach..
Sri Guru Angad Dev ji listen, Guru ji left us in Dhruv’s dimension. He went alone towards Sach Khand. I was not able to see it for myself. I will tell you what I had heard from Guru Nanak Dev ji, though. The Giver of Joy reached Sach Khand in the blink of an eye. It was a beautiful creation. There were many types of beautiful gardens there. The branches had many tasty fruits hanging from them. The flowers were beautiful, arranged in lines. Bees hummed over the flowers. They sang the praises of Hari all the time. Swans, parrots, cuckoos and other birds sang in sweet voices. The first door of Sach Khand is beautiful. It had diamonds and other gems in them. The Shalok Mukti (ones who are entitled to live in Sach Khand as a Mukti) Bhagats were in that area. They were without pain. They were always in joy. Vices and desires did not touch them, even in their dreams. Their hearts were illuminated with Brahmgyaan. There were beautiful homes there made of gold in that area. Manis were embedded in the homes which shined bright. The Ataris were made of crystal. The seats were made of sandalwood. Pearls hung radiantly from the doors. When Guru Nanak Dev ji came there, all of the Bhagats bowed to Guru ji and praised him in many ways. They looked at Guru ji’s form and became peaceful. Guru ji then went on from there.
At the second door, the praises of the homes were great. In the courtyards, there were many Manis. They were multi-coloured. The Bhagats lived amongst them. The ones who had achieved Saroop Mukti (who were in the same from as the Bhagavan). They wore yellow clothes and were the Shyam colour. They were really beautiful. It was like a blue stone and the sun shinning on it in the morning. They wore earrings in the shapes of fish. They were radiant. They had four arms and four armlets on them. They wore golden bracelets and rings. On their heads, they had golden and radiant crowns. Their hairs were round and black, looking attractive. Guru ji came to these Bhagats next. The Bhagats got up and met Guru Nanak Dev ji with love. They folded their hands and bowed to Guru ji. They felt the highest bliss meeting Guru ji. They praised Guru ji: “you are the Aad (beginning), Anaad (without beginning); you give to all and make them happy. You spread the glory of Naam in the whole world. You protect the Bhagats in every Yuga.” Hearing their sweet words, Guru ji spoke to them and travelled on from there. He wanted to see the Parmeshwar.
The Light of the Bedis then went to where the Sameep Mukti Bhagats (in the presence of Parmeshwar) lived. Their glory could not be said. They received the Darshan of Parmeshwar all the time. When the Deena Nath (the Master of the poor and humble) arrived there, the Sameep Mukti Bhagats got up and came to meet Guru Nanak Dev ji with love.
Guru ji then went to the Darbar of Sri Prabhoo ji. It was brighter than Kots of suns. The rubies and sapphires were really bright. They were embedded into the walls. The pillars were made of gold. The pillars had rubies and crystals in them. It made one surprised to see all the emeralds, gold and diamonds embedded in them. The cuts on the gems were amazing. Strands of pearls hung beautifully. They looked like suns hanging. You could see the pearls reflecting within each other. Purple gems were carved into lotus flowers. Kamadeva was embarrassed to see them. Onyxes were carved to make bees. They could not be described. In the middle of the Darbar, the canopy was beautiful. The ropes were made of silk. The glory of Sach Khand could not be described by any Kavi, poet. It was where mind, words and body reached their limits. How can one understand the beauty and state of Sach Khand? These words are used to make the mind understand. I am trying to explain it. There were many green emeralds and black Manis in Sach Khand. The red rubies, were indescribable. The floor was beautiful. The mind was lost in them. It was so amazing.
The Singhasan (the seat of Akaal Purakh) was in the middle. It was really beautiful. Kots of suns could not compare to it. The Sat, Chit and Anand, Akaal Purakh sat on this throne. It was like the illumination of all the lightening; like all of the clouds collected; all of the suns gathered in one place; many Brahmas gathered in one place; many moons gathered together; a mountain of blue sapphires. The feet of Parmeshwar were like lotuses. The nails were so beautiful that many moons were lost in front of them. The Munis and Jogis focused on them. They would be in Samadhi and be one with the Dhyaana. The anklets were beautiful. When they clanked, they gave peace to all 3 Loks. The legs of Akaal Purakh were like the banana trees. When Akaal Purakh would walk, the walk was mesmerizing. The thighs were thick and strong. The clothes were yellow. The waist had bells of Manis around it. The abdomen had 3 lines. The navel was deep and looked like a whirlpool in the Ganga and Yamuna. It was the well of Kamadeva. The waist was strong. The arms were long like elephant trunks. They were the ones that destroyed sinners and gave power to the Bhagats. There were armlets on the arms, rings on the fingers and bracelets on the wrists. This was so beautiful to look at. Weapons were in the hands of Akaal Purakh. Sinners would run away seeing this. Akaal Purakh had 4 beautiful arms. The shoulders were wide and big, like a bull. He wore yellow clothes on his body. There was a yellow cloth around his neck. They looked like lightening. Around the neck was the Vajanti Mala. The neck was shaped like a conch and had 3 lines in it. The chin was beautiful. There was nothing more beautiful than this. Only one who could see this would know. Akaal Purakh’s words were sweet and soft. He slightly smiled, which was priceless. His face was like billions of moons. The earrings were shaped like fish. His eyes were like lotus petals, wide and beautiful. The eyes would destroy the 3 illnesses of the Bhagats. His sight was full of compassion and blessings. It was sharp and full of blessings. The hair was curled and black. The bees weren’t even that dark. His forehead was wide. The crown was beautiful and radiant. The Chattar over his head made the moon shy. Chaurs were waived from every direction. It was like many suns making the radiance. Who can speak of the radiance? Kots of Shaishnaag and Shardas would give up, trying to praise Akaal Purakh. The Vedas call him Nayt (this is not your end). The wisest scholars and Kavis could not know the end of this form. What can I say about his form? I am unwise. It is like an ant trying to swim across the ocean. How can an insect lift the Sumer Mountain? How can a human know the depths of space? His power created the whole universe. Maya and Brahma were created from this power. Akaal Purakh was their support. One hair of Akaal Purakh had many Vishnus in them. Those many Vishnus created many Shivas and Brahmas. Who can think of this? The hairs of Akaal Purakh were like the branches of the Sequoia tree. The leaves were the many galaxies and universes. Creation, sustenance and destruction occurred in them. Akaal Purakh created the 3 Devs (Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva) in every universe.
The place where the King of the universe sat, the Giver of Joy to Sikhs, Guru Nanak Dev ji, came there. Guru Nanak Dev ji folded his hands and bowed to Akaal Purakh. He laid on the floor like a stick and then got up. Sri Akaal Purakh ji smiled and spoke sweet words: “in the world, Kaliyuga has been forming its crocked ways. It is like a jungle on fire. The people are engrossed in desired and vices. The dark winds blow hard. Hypocrisy and attachment along with other vices, these are the flames. The humans are burning and yelling out for help. The heat is hurting everyone. I have sent you like a cloud. The sweet Keertan you sing is the rumbling of the clouds. The praise of the Naam is the water in the cloud. It destroys the fires of Kaliyuga. The Bhagti is the coolness. To understand one’s own form, that is the peace. The humans are burning. You came into the world to destroy the hypocrisy. Have you completed your task or are some places still left?” Hearing Sri Akaal Purakh ji’s words, Guru Nanak Dev ji, the Giver of Joy to Sikhs, spoke: “in the 18 islands of the ocean, the glory of your Name has spread there. Jamboo Dveep (India) has many places where your Bhagti has spread. I am going to the 9 Khands of the earth now. I will give the wisdom to the ones who are in pain now. In the 7 Dweeps (continents), the glory of the Naam will be heard. They will chant the Naam. Bhagti and the glory of the Naam will erase the weight of the sins and pain. They will sing the glories of the Naam and destroy the sins of their many births.” The Karta Purakh spoke to the Giver of Joy: “sing the glory of the Naam, which will be deserving of saving the people. Sing the glory from your mouth once and then go to the world to give the people this wisdom.” Guru Nanak Dev ji heard this and sang the Bani in Asa Raag:
Sri Mukhvaak..
Raag Asa Mahala 1 Ghar 1 So Dar..
How is That Door of Yours, and how is That Home, in which You sit and take care of all? The Sound-current of the Naad vibrates there for You, and countless musicians play countless instruments there for You. There are so many Ragas and Raagnis; so many minstrels sing hymns of You. Wind, water and fire sing of You. The Righteous Judge of Dharma sings at Your Door. Chitragupta, the angels of the conscious and the subconscious who keep the record of actions, and the Righteous Judge of Dharma who reads this record, sing of You. Shiva, Brahma and the Goddesses along with Beauties you created, ever adorned by You, sing of You. Indra, seated on His Throne, sings of You, with the deities at Your Door. The Siddhas in Samadhi sing of You; the Sadhoos sing of You in contemplation. The Jattis (Lakshan, Gorakh, Hanuman, Bheesham, Bharo, Datta Treya), the Satis, and the Santokhis (content) sing of You; the (52) Birs sing of You. The Pandits, the religious scholars (Vyaas, Prashar, Agusta, etc.) who recite the Vedas, the Rikhishwars, with the supreme sages of all the ages, sing of You. The Mohinis, the enchanting heavenly beauties who entice hearts in Swarga, in this world, and in the Pataals (underworld), sing of You. The jewels created by You, and the sixty-eight Teeraths sing of You. The brave and mighty warriors sing of You. The spiritual heroes and the four sources of creation sing of You. The worlds, solar systems and galaxies, created and arranged by Your Hand, sing of You. They alone sing of You, who are pleasing to Your Will. Your devotees are drenched in the taste of your Bhagti. So many others sing of You, they do not come to mind. O Nanak, how can I think of them all? That True Lord is True, forever True, and True is His Name. He is, and shall always be. He shall not depart, even when this Universe which He has created ceases to exist. He created the world, with its various colors, species of beings, by the use of various forms of Maya. Having created the creation, He watches over it Himself, by His Greatness. He does whatever He pleases. No one can issue any order to Him. He is the King, the King of kings, the Supreme Lord and Master of kings. Nanak remains subject to His Will. ||1||
(SGGS 8-9)
It was as though Guru ji was the idol of love, singing in Raag Asa. After singing the So Dar Shabad, Guru Nanak Dev ji bowed in the Ashtanga way. The round (without beginning and end), single state, the radiance of Kots of suns, the aggregate light of the lightening; how can they compare? That is how the form of Akaal Purakh ji was. Sri Akaal Purakh ji heard his glory from Guru Nanak Dev ji and was happy. He smiled and said: “go back to the world and do what you need to do. Fulfill your mission of why you took on a human form. Destroy the pains of the people of the world. When Sikhi will spread everywhere, then come back to me. The ones who commit sin, destroy their sins and hypocrisy. Give the wisdom of “Satnam.” Destroy the pains of the Dharti.” Hearing the words of Sri Akaal ji, Guru Nanak Dev ji bowed to him. He folded his hands as he bowed. He then turned towards the earth. The Compassionate Master took on a human form. There was no other reason for him to come to earth other than to save the people form pain.
The ones who follow Guru Nanak Dev ji’s words, they are not afraid of the Jums. As Bhaavan’s feet were washed with water, that water became the Ganga; Bhageerath brought the Ganga to earth; that is how the Bani of Guru Nanak Dev ji was spread everywhere on earth. Within the Ganga, only the body bathes in it which destroys the sins. Within the Gurbani, the Sooksham body, the Munn, can bathe in it. Whoever bathes in the Gurbani with their Munns, their sins are destroyed and Mukti comes into their hands. The Ganga exists in one location and only flows in specific areas. Gurbani exists everywhere. It is accessible everywhere with ease. It is easy to bathe in it. The ones who recite it and read it, they are in bliss. The ones who don’t earn it, they lose in the world. The Satsangat is the great Ghatt (port/ steps of the Sarovar), where one can sit and bathe in Gurbani everyday. Kavi Santokh Singh folds his hands and bows to the Mine of Virtues.
Thus ends the Poorbaardh, the first half of the Nanak Prakash Granth.
