1-61 Sidh Bhangar, Kaneepha, Bhootvay, Charpat, Dunger, Sanger, Sanbalka
Sri Guru ji’s feet are the pool of peace. My mind is like a deer that wanders endlessly. Once I came into the pool, I became calm and say the pure Katha of Katha ji, as it comes to me.
Guru Angad Dev ji’s Samadhi broke on the 8th day. His breaths were instilled in the 7th Chakra, the Sahasrara Chakra (Crown Chakra). It has 1,000 petals and is a violet or white Lotus. It is located on the top of the head (or pineal gland). Only the Brahmgyaani can connect with this Chakra. The body becomes very still in the Samadhi, while still being fully aware of the surroundings. Guru ji became aware of his body on the 8th day. He opened his eyes, which looked like a lotus blooming, seeing the sun. His eyes were beautiful. He took a bath and ate food in the Langar. The Giver of Joy came back to the Guru’s Throne. He sat on it while being the incarnation of peace and forgiveness. The listeners, writer, and speaker came back upon the calling of Guru Angad Dev ji. Guru Angad Dev ji said for the listening of the Katha: “Bala ji, tell us the Katha as you saw it. This Amrit Katha is with you. Tell everyone. Don’t keep it for yourself. Satiate the others as well.” Bhai Bala ji said: “all of the Sidhs came and sat near me. I will tell you as it happened.” Bhai Paira Mokha ji wrote the Katha as Bhai Bala ji spoke it. He was telling Guru Angad Dev ji the Katha. Listen to as the Katha moves forward.
Sri Bala Sandhur Vaach..
Lohareepa was really happy, hearing Guru ji’s words. He saw his body as successful. He heard the great words of Gyaan. He sat near Guru ji. He then took leave and came to Gorakh Nath. He said to him: “Adais! He is definitely the complete Avatar of Parmeshwar. The dirt of his feet will save the world. There is nobody equal to him. I have never seen anyone like him. Meeting him, my bad wisdom was destroyed. I tell you the truth: no Sidh is capable of defeating him.” Gorakh heard this and said: “sit down and be quiet. The others who are egotistical, don’t say anything to them. When they speak to Guru ji, their egos will be destroyed too. They think they are the greatest.” Gorakh Nath called all of the 84 Sidhs. The Sidhs all said “Adais” and sat down. Gorakh Nath said: “you are all masters of many powers. The Nanak Tappa is wise. Will someone go and defeat him?” Bhangar Nath got up and said: “give me permission to go. I am complete. Who is this being who can face me? I don’t see anyone stronger than us. I will defeat him and send him back. Otherwise I will put him to your feet. I have the power to break the stars. Who is this human that can keep his patience if front of me?” Gorakh Nath gave him permission and said: “go and win him. You are good at speaking. Bring him into the Panth.” Bhangar Nath heard his praise and became egotistical. He left right away with his Yogic Powers. The fool did not know the greatness of the Guru. The Vedas and Shastras took support of Guru ji. He was their form.
Guru ji walked slowly. He went higher. Bhai Mardana ji said: “I am seeing with my eyes but now I can’t see the moon either. Where we are, is there something higher than here? How far will we go?” Guru ji heard this and said: “the master of the night, the moon, is left behind. The sun and moon, if you want to see them, look downwards. What you ask about higher places, there are many dimensions which are beautiful. The Sidhs live on the summit of the Sumer. They have many powers. Kaak Bhasund Rishi and other Rishis live there. You will meet them. Dhruv and Prahalad along with Datta Treya, you will see them all. They live in the higher dimensions. We will go there slowly. The Sidhs are egotistical. I need to kill their ego first. We will go there after. The Sidhs are proud of their bodies. I need to show them the way of Bhagti.” As Guru ji was speaking, Bhangar Nath came and said to Guru ji: “Mai Munday (oh shaved head one – the student of the Guru – a way to call others as saying “oh my fellow person”), where are you going? You don’t have the ability to go on ahead. You will be in pain and may die. Nobody would be able to save you. Don’t be stubborn. If you want to go on ahead then make Gorakh your Guru. He has many servants. He has given them the wisdom of Jog. Turn back or make Gorakh your Guru. Do one of those things if you want to live.” Guru ji said: “I am the one who has shaved the desires. I have shaved the mother of desires, the Maya. They will be in pain who have forgotten the way of the Parmeshwar. I will break your ego and then go. Akaal Purakh will show the way. I know your Guru, Gorakh Nath. He made his age bigger with his powers. He thinks he is immortal. He fights with others after being a great being. Why does he argue with me? He doesn’t deal with his ego. He doesn’t have the Gyaan of his form; how will he give others the Gyaan? He does this to be praised. You fool others for your praise. Your ways are a farce. You pierce your ears and wear crystal earrings. You wear Sailis around your necks and show a farce. You wear ash on your body and wear pink clothes. You carry a bag for your alms. You don’t know the ways of Jog yet. You lost the technique. You call yourself Jogis but don’t know Jog. You made your ages big but the righteous path is far. The real form you have, you can’t go there.” Bhangar Nath went quiet after hearing this. He couldn’t say anything. He disappeared and came to Gorakh Nath. He appeared and sat down in an Asana.
Guru Nanak Dev ji walked forward. The harsh mountains came. He was at the peak of Una Mountain. He sat down there. He sat for an hour and a half. He then opened his eyes and smiled. Bhai Mardana ji said: “why are you smiling?” Prabhoo ji said: “another Jogi is coming to argue with me. I will need to break his ego. Gorakh Nath is sending many Sidhs to me. They come with jealousy. They are shameless and don’t stop arguing.” Bhai Mardana ji said: “this time, I will Chaday Ghatay them (wrestling hold). Give me permission. They have no reason to argue with us. They come here in anger for no reason. They ask so many questions. Let me kill one of them. Then everyone will gain their wisdom. No one will come again. They have so much ego. They think there is no one else like them. Let me fix them once then they won’t say anything.” Sri Guru ji said: “this is not the fight of the hands. This is the battle of words. They argue with words. I will defeat them with words.”
As Guru ji and Bhai Mardana ji were joking and talking, Kaneepha came to speak to Guru ji. He came and said: “have you been here before or are you here for the first time? How far are you going? What is your name? You came here in pride. I will break your pride. If you want to go ahead, take wisdom from me.” Guru ji said: “I have come here before and am going on the same way. Does anyone ever travel without seeing or knowing this kind of path? My name is Nanak. Akaal Purakh has given me the wisdom. If you have the wisdom to break the darkness, then say it. Why are you speaking nonsense? I am going to the Desh of Niranjan, away from Maya. That is my wish. My mind is not at rest without that High Takhat. What is your wisdom? Tell me everything.” Kaneepha said: “pierce your ears and wear crystal earrings. Wear a Khintha and learn Jog. Come into the Sidh fold and let go of your ideology. Beg for food and wear ash on your body. You won’t grow old or die. Your name will be glorified in the world. Think about it. Become our student. You will have to become one of us if you want to go on ahead. You will be praised.” Guru ji said: “I wear the earrings after piercing attachment and ego. I wear the earrings of humility and Gyaan. I wear the Khintha of Dyaan (focus). It is indestructible. I wear the ash of Santokh (contentment). I beg for the Shunya (nothingness). My attention is focused in the Naam. The Giver of Joy lives in Naam. Kaal does not come near me because I have earned the Shabad of the Guru. I don’t see my body as my real self. I live in the form of Hari. So I will never grow old. Listen oh hypocrite Jogi, I have the well-earned Jog. Tell me if you want it.” Kaneepha heard this and left. He understood that Guru ji was a complete being.
Bhai Mardana ji said: “let’s go to the Sumer Mountain Guru ji.” Sri Prabhoo ji said: “we will go slowly. We will see the peaceful places on the way. I need to show you the Sidhs still. They are full of ego. They come, one by one. I need to purify them all.”
Haneepha came next and said: “oh child, Adais!” Guru ji responded: “Adais to Ikankaar, Haneepha! Come and have a seat.” Haneepha was surprised to hear his name. He said: “we are meeting for the first time. How did you know my name was Haneepha? Did someone tell you or are you the knower of the 3 times? I am in doubt. Tell me.” Sri Guru ji said: “listen to your story: your father’s name was Kank-karan. He was a big king. He lived in Seelpur. He ruled that place. When he died, he left this earth. You were 17 years old then and became the king. You owned the land and the treasure. One day you were riding your horse and went hunting for joy. You killed many animals in the jungle by surrounding them. You killed birds, boar, and deer. When you were going home, you met Gorakh Nath ji on the way. He saw the dead animals and said: “are you without compassion? You killed them for taste of tongue. These animals will kill you in the next life. Why do you waste your human life?” You heard this and realized your death. You became scared of sin. You grabbed his feet. You wanted to make him happy and make yourself pure. You said: “be compassionate and make me live a long life.” Gorakh Nath said: “practice Jog. Shave your head and let go of your caste and honour. You will stay in one place. Otherwise your body will die.” You removed your Pugri and said: “if I will stay forever than shave my head.” Gorakh pierced your ears and shaved your head. He made you a student. You became a Sidh and rubbed ash on your body.” Haneepha was shocked to hear this. Guru ji told him everything. His doubt was gone. He saw Guru ji as the Avatar of Parmeshwar. He regarded his body as successful. He had the Darshan of Jagdeesh. He had one more doubt left. He said: “where was my head shaved? Tell me the place. I will see you as the Avatar who has come to save the world.” The Compassionate Kirpal said: “you sat under the shaved Peepal tree. He shaved your head and made you a Sidh. Kingdom, land, treasury, maids, servants, sons, wives/women, army; you left it all. You became a Sidh and didn’t care to see what happened to your old possessions.” Haneepha heard this and was convinced. He folded his hands and bowed to Guru ji. He knew that it was the form of Parmeshwar. He bowed and went back to the Sumer Mountain. He had joy in his heart and spoke nicely to Guru ji.
Haneepha went to Gorakh and praised Guru Nanak Dev ji, a lot: “he is powerful and omnipotent. His glory is great.” Gorakh called all the Sidhs. He said to Bhootva Sidh: “Guru Nanak Dev ji is coming this way. Give him the wisdom of Jog.” Bhootva Sidh quickly came to Guru ji and said: “oh child, stop your stubbornness. I will connect you to Gorakh Nath’s feet and make him your Guru. Your pain of reincarnation will stop. Why do you not wish for the highest status? You are here. Don’t leave without making Gorakh Nath your Guru. What is in your heart? Tell me.” Sri Guru ji said: “he is empty. He does not chant the Naam. He fears the Jumms. I am here to destroy your ego. I will connect you to Hari’s feet. I am not going back. I will come to you. Birth and death are only feared by those you are aware of the existence of their body. The Gyaani does not have love for his/her body. They are not happy or sad over the existence of their body or the body dying.” Bhootva understood that Guru ji was the cloud of Gyaan. He went back to Gorakh and told him what happened. Gorakh made him quiet as he wanted the other to have their egos destroyed. He said to all: “is there another capable Sidh who can defeat Guru Nanak Dev ji with their words?” Charpat Nath was wise. He got angry and went to Guru Nanak Dev ji. He sat next to Guru ji and showed his Gyaan: “where is your Asana? What food do you eat to survive? What is your bed for resting? What clothes do you wear?” Guru ji said: “my Asana is inside the body. Naam is my food, know this. My clothes are forgiveness. The Dasam Duaar is my bed. I rest there.” Charpat’s heart lost its filth. He came back to Gorakh and said: “he is complete and cannot be won. He is not limited. He can’t be stopped by any words. He has every answer.” Jhangar Nath heard this and got angry. He said: “who is the Mai Mundia? Give me permission to go.”
Jhangar came to Guru ji and said: “how can you raise a child without milk? What is your name and where are you going? Where do you live? My name is Jhangar. I ask you, what is your cloth?” Guru ji said: “oh wanderer, listen, my name is Nanak. I am focused in the Name of the Prabhoo, that is the child I raise. Wherever I have work, that is where I will go. My land is Shivdesh Nagri. Gorakh has forgotten the righteous Path. He made his age big and is in ego.” Jhangar heard this and was embarrassed. He went to the Sumer Mountain and said: “no amount of trying can he be stopped with. He gives quick responses to questions.” Sangar Nath heard this and said: “wait, I will debate with him and stop him.” He took Gorakh’s permission and came to Guru ji with anger.
Sangar Nath came to Guru ji, like the sons of Vinta (snakes) going to fight Garuda (Garuda can kill snakes). Guru ji was on the Mina Mountain. Guru ji was sitting in an Asana. He was there to destroy the egos of the Sidhs. Sangar said: “oh child, Adais?” Guru ji stayed quiet. The Jagdesh smiled. Sangar got angry and said: “you don’t give me a response. The Mai Munda laughs.” Guru ji said: “Mai Munda is Gorakh who didn’t give you any wisdom. He pierced your ears and made you wear earrings. He made you into fools. He shaved your heads and dishonoured your castes. He made you rub ash on your bodies and wasted your lives. It’s like the frog who doesn’t know of the greatness of the Lotus and eats filth. You call yourself Jogis but you dishonour the Jog.” Sangar heard this and was embarrassed. He had doubts in his heart and said: “what is the technique by which anger can be won? How can one be an Ateet and win the lust and desires? How can the death be won, that hovers over the head? How can greed be destroyed? How does one become immortal? Denouncing Maya, how can one live in the world? These are my doubts. I ask you for the answers.” The Giver of Mukti, the Home of Virtues heard this. His sanctuary gives all of the joys and peace. Guru ji said: “by staying calm, anger can be won. Leaving the 3 Guns (Satogun, Rajogun, Tamogun) behind, one becomes great. The Gyaan from the Guru can destroy the lust and desires. Focusing on the Naam, death is avoided. Contentment destroys greed. The Dyaan in the Hari will make you immortal. In the Sangat of the saints, you can be free from Maya. See the pleasures and vices as poison. Forget about them. Do the Bhagti with love; that is the best technique. Discard the ego and attachment; you will live above the world, detached from it.” Sangar heard this and became calm in his heart. He came back to the Sumer Mountain. His mind did not wander anymore.
Sanbalka Sidh came next. He came to Guru ji and said: “why did you leave the give and take of the world? How are you connected to the Udaasi? The tasks can never be completed without Jog. With Jog, you can achieve what you wish for.” The Pankaj Badan heard this and said: “the support of Jog, I have grabbed it. I don’t let it go, ever. Live above and detached from the ways of the world. I stay connected to the Name of the Parmeshwar. The Name fulfills all of the wishes and completes all of the tasks. Name gives Vivek, wisdom of what is infinite and what is limited.” Sanbalka heard the summary and went back to the Summit of the Sumer Mountain. He told the Sidhs of his conversation. The Adhyaaya is now complete.
1-62 Sidh Gopi Chand, Ishar Nath, Mangal Nath, Shamboo Nath
I bow to the Lotus feet of Guru Gobind Singh ji, who destroys the sin and gives Mukti. I bow to his feet.
Sri Bala Sandhur Vaach..
Gorakh Nath thought hard and called all of the Sidhs to him. He gave permission to Gopi Chand to go. He went to Guru Nanak Dev ji and said: “Aadesh,” to which Guru ji said: “Ikankaar ko Aadesh.” Gopi Chand sat near Guru ji and was happy. It was like a lotus blooming, seeing the Maartand, sun. He said: “who is the Dhyani? Who is the Gyaani? Who is the Ishnaani? Who is pure? Tell me oh Tappa. By which technique can the internal Diva be lit? What is the Path that has no blockages? Which home can one sit in, forever, in bliss? Sitting in such a home, one would stay still and not wander?” The destroyer of hypocrisy spoke to Gopi Chand to give him bliss: “the Dhyani is: who never loses focus. The Gurmukh is the Gyaani. Pure is the one who has love for Gurbani. The one whom you see as the bather of the 68 Teeraths as the Ishnaani, in fact it is the one who does the Darshan of the Guru (the one who ponders on the Guru’s words), everyday with faith. The heart Lotus becomes upright, the Diva lights, the one who accepts the will (joy or sorrow) of Akaal Purakh. His path has no blockages. The Trikuti (the meditator, the object of meditation, and meditation) becomes one, the one who understands this, they are in bliss. The ones who see the One, their bliss is without breaks. They are still. They do not wander.” Gopi Chand folded his hands and said to the Sukhkand: “come to our Sidh Mandali and give them your Darshan. They will bow to your feet and be in bliss. You are the Destroyer of pain. Tell us your words and listen to ours.” Guru ji said: “I will come slowly. You go and tell them of my arrival.” Gopi Chand bowed to Guru ji’s feet and went back to the golden mountain. He said to Gorakh Nath: “I will tell you of his news: he is worthy of worship. His Jog is the best. He is coming himself. He is independent and free. He does as he pleases. The Kaliyuga is fierce. I have recognized the Avatar of Parmeshwar who has come to save the people.” Gorakh said: “I know about him. I am well aware of him. The Sidhs have ego. I wanted Guru ji to destroy their ego. That’s why I am quiet.” He then called Ishar Nath. Gorakh Nath gave him permission: “go to the Tappa and see to him. His wisdom seems smart in speaking. Go and defeat him. Make him go back. You are the smartest out of all the Sidhs. Therefore, give him your wisdom and teach him Jog, as you did it.” Ishar Nath went to Guru ji.
The Giver of Joy was sitting on the peak of the mountain, radiant. Ishar Nath said: “Adesh.” Guru ji said: “Prabhoo ko Adesh.” Ishar Nath said: “where are you from and where are you going? Who are you? Come to our Guru Gorakh Nath and take the great wisdom of Jog. It is the highest wisdom.” Guru ji said: “the body is made of the 5 prime elements. You have the same body as mine. Think about it and then ask me. If you ask about the Aatma, that is omnipresent. The Aatma is inside and outside. It is in every direction. Coming and going would be if it were less in anyway. Only Bibek will tell you this. Your question is useless. Go and ask your Guru Gorakh on how to ask questions. Your question is wrong.” Ishar Nath was embarrassed and went back to the Sumer Mountain. He didn’t say anything. He understood that Guru ji was complete in Aatam Gyaan. He said: “he can’t be defeated with words.” Langar Nath heard this and became angry. He said: “Gorakh ji, give me permission. I will see what he says in front of me. I will bring him to your sanctuary.”
Langar Nath got his Guru’s permission. He thought of his Guru and did his Pooja. He came to Guru Nanak Dev ji. He wanted to win him. The Light of the Bedis, where he was sitting, Langar Nath came and said: “Adesh. Come to Sumer. Take the wisdom of Gorakh Nath. Let go of the fear of death. Your Karma would come to fruition if you love Jog. You will focus on the Anhad Dhunni. Let go of your stubbornness.” The Master of the Humble said: “tell me what dies? The body is made of the 5 prime elements; which never die. If one of these elements die, then tell me. The Aatma is infinite and immortal. It is not cut nor does it burn. The Jeev forgets that it is the Sat, Chit and Anand form. Your words are wrong. Who do you see dying? If you don’t know the answer, go and ask Gorakh.” Langar Nath went quiet and went back to the Sumer Mountain. He told Gorakh about the conversation. Gorakh called Mangal Nath to him. He had him sit down with respect and said: “all of the Sidhs have come back defeated. You will need to go now.” Mangal Nath asked: “why are you sending me? Do you want to see his form and nature or do you want to give him wisdom?” Gorakh Nath heard this and thought to himself. He then said: “what wish is in your heart, go and see him and do as you please.” Mangal Nath said: “Guru Gorakh ji, you are the complete Jogi and capable in every way. Guru Nanak Dev ji is complete in every way. I will go to his sanctuary as he is the Giver of Mukti. What use is it to test him or see him? He is the Devata of Devatas. He is the Master of Inder and Vishnu. He is the protector of saints. We have already tested him. Once or twice would have been enough. We have tested him over and over again. This is unorthodox. He has already been tested. Testing him again is useless. I can’t disobey you. I will go and get him if you give me permission. Meeting him will be a blessing. His Darshan will destroy laziness.” Gorakh said: “Mangal Nath ji, bring him so that he takes on our ways. If he begins to follow our Path, his glory will be illuminated in the world. Our glory will grow as well.” Mangal Nath said: “this won’t happen, what you wish for. If he was lower than us then he would take our wisdom. The one who is higher, how can he take wisdom from the lower? This is impractical. It’s like a firefly’s light getting hidden by the sun, that is how our situation is.” Gorakh heard this and said: “you have understood the tradition of the Sidhs. You are great and deserving of Jog. You have defeated your ego. You have understood the glory of Guru Nanak Dev ji. You have spoken accurately about him. The Sidhs are pierced by the arrows of ego. You should do as you wish. Bharthri and Gopi Chand are wise, they understand Guru Nanak Dev ji. Ghughoo Nath didn’t say anything. You are great as well. There are the likes of Khesu and Pesu; some know but aren’t many.” Gorakh said this and sat down quietly. He spoke to the Sidhs.
Baba Mardana ji said to Guru Nanak Dev ji: “are we going to stay here? Let’s go on ahead.” Guru ji said: “what a little longer. We will go to the Sumer. Some Sidhs remain. Let them come. They still have ego that needs to be purified.” Mangal Nath then arrived as they spoke. He sat down and folded his hands. He bowed and said: “Adesh!” He was about to touch Guru ji’s feet but Guru ji stopped him and was going to touch his feet. Mangal Nath was a lot older in age than Guru ji and he was humble. Guru ji, the Giver of Mukti, respected him a lot. Both had love for each other in their eyes. They were really happy to see each other. They met like Bhabheeshan meeting Ram Chander ji. Mangal Nath said: “I am blessed to have your Darshan. Seeing your form, I see myself as fortunate. You are the Avatar of Parmeshwar. My Jog is a success today. My Dhyana is a success as you now live in it. You are the protector of the saints and the destroyer of hypocrisy. You are the Giver of Mukti.” Sri Guru ji said: “you are Dhan. You are the highest within the Sidhs. You are pure. There is no other Sidh like you. You have humility and no ego. You speak sweetly. It’s like you drank the Amrit of humility. This is the advantage of the human life. Destroy your ego and love the feet of the saints.” Mangal Nath heard this and lowered his eyes. He said: “the one whom you are compassionate upon, you give them wisdom. Saints are those who destroy their ego and speak with sweet words.” Mangal Nath said: “come to the Sumer Mountain and meet the Sidh Mandali. Give everyone your Darshan and make them peaceful. If you don’t wish to go then I can bring something for you to eat here.” Guru ji laughed and said: “I am satiated with your love. I don’t wish to eat anything else. I spoke to you and that gave me joy. You go on ahead. I will come after you.” Mangal Nath made Guru ji happy. Guru ji was happy as well. Mangal Nath bowed and went back to the Sumer Mountain.
Bhai Mardana ji asked: “oh wise Prabhoo, this Jogi that just came, his words were soft and he had peace in his mind. His personality and nature were great. He showed love for you and praised you. He didn’t argue with you. He was happy to see you. He made you happy too. He left happy.” Guru ji heard this and said: “listen Mardana, not everyone is the same. Many just wear the clothes but are hypocrites. It’s just a façade. They don’t do good deeds. Out of Crores, there is one that is complete. They have no shortages and are from the inside as they are on the outside. It is only who Kartaar is compassionate upon that they become wise.” Bhai Mardana ji said: “shall we go to the Sumer Mountain now? Let’s go see the Sidhs. Why are we delaying?” Guru ji said: “another Sidh is coming. He has a lot of ego in his mind. His name is Shamboo Nath.” Bhai Mardana ji heard this and said: “is he greater than Mangal Nath or the same, whom we are waiting for? Tell me about him.” The Jagat Nath spoke: “Gorakh Nath and the other Sidhs, out of all of them, Mangal Nath is the greatest. He took on the Sidh form. He has the highest status. The undefeatable vices inside the mind, Mangal Nath has found them all and defeated them. He is a complete saint and made his ego run away. He is without ego. He is humble.” Bhai Mardana ji was surprised and asked: “then why has he made Gorakh his Guru? How did he become the student of someone lower than him? Why did he become a Sidh?” Sri Guru ji said: “Gorakh met him first. Mangal Nath made Gorakh Nath his Guru and became a Sidh. He learnt Jog from him. He achieved the highest status by his effort.” Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji said this and over on the Sumer Mountain, Gorakh Nath sent Shamboo Nath.
Shamboo Nath held a staff and Bairaagan. His ears were pierced with crystal earrings. He has happy as he thought he was going to win. He came to Guru ji and said: “oh child, Adesh!” Guru ji said: “Adesh to Prabhoo! Come and sit.” They had discussions. Shamboo Nath said: “become Gorakh Nath’s student and pierce your ears. Rub ash on your body. You won’t have any obstacles. The lotus of your heart will bloom. The light will shine inside you. You will be connected to the Shunya. Death will run away for your body. Take this staff and Bairaagan. Become a Nath and win the joy. Nobody will stop you. You have got a great opportunity. You will have all of the Ridhis and Siddhis. Make him your Guru.” Guru ji said: “I will make Gorakh my student. I won’t rub ash nor wear earrings. This bowl you carry is for beggars. Death is away from me and will never come close. Ridhis and Siddhis are always standing in front of me. If you need any, ask them from me. I can go wherever I want to go. Nobody can stop me. I am always connected to the Shunya. What will you do for me?” Shamboo Nath said: “you are filled with ego! Where is your sight? Why do you speak nonsense? The chaste and true Sidhs are known in the world. You don’t know how powerful Gorakh Nath is. You slander the Sidh Sadhoos. What are you born of? How are you saying all this? You are born of earth and filled with ego. What greatness have you achieved? You wander in the species of earthly life forms. Without the Guru, everyone is unstable. No one stays.” Guru ji said: “I know your Gorakh Nath. He is born from the seed of Shiva. My sight is upon the Ikankaar. Saints and Sadhoos are my real brothers. Meeting the saints and Sadhoos in the court of Akaal Purakh, this gives bliss. Dirty or clean, the whole world is made up of the five prime elements. Everyone has the same body. The One has created all. The Bhagat of Kartaar destroys the ego. The Sidhs are filled with ego. Ego has made all of the great beings, low. How can you immerse yourself in love without a Guru?” Shamboo Nath said: “how is Mukti received by the technique of Jog? You don’t see the Jogis and Jattis. Who is the greatest? The Jogis are the greatest. Why do see them as bad? Listen to the good and beautiful wisdom. Accept the Path of Jog. Come to Gorakh and become immortal. You will be famous in the world. You will never grow old. Old age will run away from you like a coward running away from a true warrior in battle.” Guru ji said: “without the Naam, Jog is never complete. Connect your focus into the Naam. There is nothing bigger than the Naam. The One who killed the demons for his servants, his Naam, when residing in the heart, destroys attachment and gives Gyaan. The person will not be born nor die again. Death runs away from their head. They become One with the Real Form. Nobody can be equal to them. Any other technique besides the Naam is just a chain in your feet. Naam is the Giver of Mukti. There is none other.” Shamboo Nath said: “you don’t understand after my explanation. Who would argue with you?” Shamboo Nath went back to the Sumer Mountain after saying that.
Gorakh asked: “who was your conversation? Did he listen to your wisdom? Did he accept it?” Shamboo Nath said: “Nath ji, listen: he speaks nonsense. He doesn’t listen to wisdom. I tried talking sense into him.” Gorakh Nath looked and Mangal Nath and laughed. He then spoke out loud for everyone to hear: “Mangal Nath listen to his words. Does he speak false or does he speak the truth? You spoke in a different way about Guru Nanak Dev ji. Tell me, how should I understand the Tappa?” Mangal Nath said: “he won’t speak of the shortcomings of our Panth. If a person calls the truth as false, they sin. Their good deeds run away. The Shastras, Vedas and Puranas say than there is no virtue greater than speaking the truth. There is no bigger sin equal to lies. I can’t say how he is. He is as he is. When he comes close to you, you can see how he is.” Shamboo Nath was angry and said to Gorakh Nath speaking of Mangal Nath: “he seems to secretly be on the side of Guru Nanak Dev ji’s path. He sees his path as better. If he thinks that is the greater path, he should become his student then. He should leave the Sidh form. Nobody will stop him. I have seen the Tappa and debated with him. I have spoken about him as I have seen him.” Magal Nath spoke: “listen Shamboo Nath, by your speaking, Guru Nanak Dev ji won’t become any less. The owl cannot slander the sun and make it smaller. It is as it is. It is not good for a Jogi following Jog to speak false about a right person. Ask the other Sidhs about him. I wish to become his student, over and over again. Take the dirt from his feet. Only saints bow to saints. Thieves bow to thieves. The ones who have ego in their hearts, they cannot bow because of vices. Speaking like this, you cannot know Jog.” Shamboo Nath became embarrassed, hearing this. He asked all of the Sidhs: “how did you all see him?” Gorakh said: “what fight are you two doing in the home? You lost from Guru Nanak Dev ji and are fighting here now. Don’t fight. Don’t fight with jealousy, having ego. If Guru Nanak Dev ji is lower than you, then go and stop him. He is coming. He is greater than you. That’s why he quickly defeated you. Shamboo Nath, you didn’t understand him. How can I make you figure him out? Sidhs and Sadhoos should speak like this: see yourself was lower than all. See everyone as greater than you. Don’t think you are the only Gyaani, Dhyani and virtuous one. If you think like this, let it go. Saints and Sadhoos are deeper than deep, greater than great. The ones who have destroyed the ego and seen the Niranjan, they are great. Don’t be jealous of the greatness of others. Don’t burn your body in the jealousy of their praises.” Gorakh Nath then went quiet. Shamboo Nath was embarrassed. The fire of anger was burning in his heart. He didn’t say anything.
Mangal Nath was happy. It was like the lotus blooming, seeing the sun; after Gorakh Nath spoke. The ones who understood Guru Nanak Dev ji now, laughed at Shamboo Nath’s jealousy. Gopi Chand said: “listen Mangal, oh great Jogi, Sidh Sadhoos should not do this. The slandering of saints and sadhoos is like free sin on your head. Discussions are good but don’t have anger in your heart. Listen to great words and speak great words with the saints. The losers came and slandered Guru Nanak Dev ji. They are shameless and dishonoring the Jog.” Mangal Nath said: “you speak the truth. The Sidh Sadhoos that do that, the Niranjan form will be compassionate. After being blessed, they understand this status. To keep ego in the heart, they won’t see others as equal to them. They are without Jog. The don’t understand the greatness of the saints.” The Sidhs had discussions with each other on the Sumer Mountain. All of the Sidhs talked and debated. The Adhyaaya is now complete by the blessings of the Satguru.
1-63 Conversations with the Sidhs/ Water from the Pond
My mind was like a dying plant, dried for a long time. The love of the feet of Sri Guru ji was like water. That water made my mind green. I speak the Katha of Guru ji with love, that gives Mukti and protects it.
Sri Bala Sandhur Vaach..
Gorakh Nath ji then spoke to Bharthri: “go there and bring him here, properly. The other Sidhs will be able to meet him. They will have his Darshan and be in joy.” Bharthri ji said: “when I met him before, I heard the great wisdom from him. I was in bliss then. I am always in bliss since then. I will meet him for the second time now, by your permission. I will request him to come by folding my hands.” Bharthri ji came to Guru ji and said: “Adesh!” He met Guru ji with joy. Bharthri folded his hands and bowed. He said: “oh Deen Dayaal, come to the Sumer Mountain. The Sidhs are expecting you. They all wish for your Darshan. They are all waiting for you with love.” Pankaj Nain ji spoke with respect: “Bharthri you are Dhan, who knows the correct Jog. You left your women, whose faces were like the moon. You left your land, wealth and kingdom. You make your life a success, rejecting your honour within the world. Your life is like a gem. Go back to the Sumer Mountain and inform the Sidhs that I will be coming. Say my Adesh to all of the Sidhs. I will come after you, soon. I won’t take long. We can do each other’s good Darshan which will give joy to the heart.” Bharthri ji went back with joy, after speaking to Guru ji.
Bharthri ji praised Guru Nanak Dev ji and said Adesh to all. He said: “he won’t be long. He is coming soon. He wants to see the peak of the Sumer Mountain.” The Sidhs had discussions amongst themselves. Bhai Mardana ji said to Guru Nanak Dev ji: “Sri Prabhoo ji, Destroyer of pain, let’s go see the Sumer Mountain, where Gorakh lives.” The Lotus of the Pond of the Bedis said: “let’s go Mardana! You wish to see it. We will see it.” After saying that, we all quickly came to the Summit of the Sumer Mountain, where the Sidh Mandali was sitting with Gorakh Nath. All of the Sidhs were sitting with their Gyaan. Guru Nanak Dev ji said: “Adesh.” Gorakh said: “Aad Purakh Adesh, Bala (Child). Come and sit near me.” Gorakh Nath ji respected Guru ji a lot. Gorakh Nath thought in his mind: “if he comes into our Panth, we will be praised in the world. We will be worshiped.” Gorakh said to Bharthri: “go and bring the chalice of alcohol and give it to Guru Nanak ji. He can focus with it and be carefree.” Bharthri ji brought a chalice filled with alcohol and placed it in front of Guru ji. Gorakh said: “drink this right now and become carefree.” Sri Guru ji: “what is this water you brought?” Gorakh said: “this is alcohol. Drink it and meditate. It will destroy the fear of death, hunger and thirst. The 3 illnesses will be destroyed and will take you to the 4th stage. You will forget mine and yours. Ridhis and Siddhis will become your followers. You will hear the Anhad sound and become immortal.” Sri Guru ji asked: “how did you make this alcohol? Tell me.” Jhangar Nath said: “a kiln is prepared in the ground by digging the earth. Lahan (gurrh) and Kas (kikar bark) were added. The kiln was lit with fire. The pipe was added and the alcohol was dripped through fermentation. Drinking this makes one see joy and sorrow as the same. The focus stays steady and does not wander.” The Kamal Badan, the Giver of Joy, heard this and spoke about the correct technique of the correct alcohol:
Asa Mahalla 1..
The Lahan of Gyaan and Dhyaan, the kas of deeds was used..
The love is the kiln, the thinking of Brahm is the fire..1..
Oh Sidhs, I don’t get drunk from this alcohol..
The ones who get drunk from alcohol, they are not wise..1..Rahao..
The focus is the pipe, love is the pot, the introverted focus is the drip..
Compassion is the chalice, Sahij is the cup, Gurmat is the alchohol..2..
The Guru’s wisdom, the Naam, makes one drunk in the single state, they play..
Wherever they look, they see the One form; their mind is the student on the path of Prema Bhagti..3..
Sidhs, this is how I get along; for the 8 watches of day and night I am always focused on the Naam..
Nanak says, the servant is drunk who looks towards the Ikankaar and detached from everything else..4..
(Sri Nanak Prakash Granth)
Hearing the words of Guru ji, the Sidhs used their ideology and spoke to Guru ji:
Sidhan Vaach..
Wealth and youth, one should not wish for it.. Do not touch the woman (whom is not yours) with your body..
Sound and semen should stay in the body.. Parbhat serves such a person..
Parbhat speaks of the Sat (infinite) form.. In the Parm Tatt, there is not line or form..1..
(Sri Nanak Prakash Granth)
Sri Mukhvaak.. M:1..
The Ghristi is the one who denounces the pleasures of the Indrees.. Japp, Tapp and abstinence should be the alms that one should beg..
Donate your body.. Such a Ghristi is like the waters of the Ganga..
Ishar, Infinite is the form.. The Param Tant has no line or form..2..
M:1..
The Avdhoot is the one who burns one’s ego.. The food begging should be the Tapp..
Beg for the Prema Bhagti in the heart.. Such an Avdhoot goes to the place of Shiv..
Gorakh, Infinite is the form.. The Param Tant has no line or form..3..
M:1..
The Udaasi is the one who is detached from the world.. Breathing in and out, one should live in the Niranjan Akaal Purakh..
Moon and sun, that is the knot.. Such an Udaasi does not come into bodies again..
Gopi Chand, Infinite is the form.. The Param Tant has no line or form..4..
M:1..
The Paakhandi (Paap-khandi) is the one who cleanses the body or Bhuddi.. The ego of the body should be burnt with the fire of Brahm (thinking of)..
The Semen should not fall in the dream.. Such a Paakhandi will not grow old nor die..
Charpat, Infinite is the form.. The Param Tant has no line or form..5..
M:1..
The Bairagi is one who detaches from the world and connects to the Brahm.. In the sky, one should stop the mind..
One should stay focused introvertly day and night.. Such a Bairagi is equal to the infinite.
Bharthri, Infinite is the form.. The Param Tant has no line or form..6..
Guru ji gave the Sidhs the Gyaan, as the sun, being compassionate.
Sri Mukhvaak..
M:1
How is evil eradicated? How can the true way of life be found? What is the use of piercing the ears, or begging for food?
Throughout existence and non-existence, there is only the Name of the One Lord. What is that Word, which holds the heart in its place?
When you see the sun and shade as the same, says Nanak, then the Guru will speak to you.
The students follow the six shastras and ideology that is pure; they are neither worldly people, nor detached renunciates.
One who remains absorbed in the Formless Lord. Why should such a person go out begging? ||7||
(Nanak, Infinite is the form.. The Param Tant has no line or form..) – From Nanak Parkash Granth
(SGGS 953)
The Sidhs heard this and went quiet. They did not speak again. They realized that Guru ji would not lose in debate. The highest Naths were focused in their meditation. Guru ji was very happy. Ghughu Nath said: “how is your silence? What ideology do you follow? You did not question nor answer anything. Your Darshan feels nice. I can’t see your greatness. How can we know your ideology without speaking?” Guru Nanak Dev ji spoke to Ghughu Nath, who knew that Guru ji was the Avatar of Parmeshwar. Ghughu Nath then said: “I do not include myself within the Sidh Naths or Jattis. High or low status; I have let this go. I do not play the deer horn either. I don’t show façades. I don’t grow my ego. I erased the joy and sorrow. I have forgotten the duality. I have discarded praise and slandering. I am worry-free. I don’t call myself a Guru nor make anyone my student. I don’t bow nor have anyone bow to me. I know the play is of Ikankaar. Shiv and Shakti don’t meet. I have forgotten to speak. I don’t speak.” He got up and so did Guru ji. They touched each other’s feet. Both hearts had a lot of love and joy. Guru Nanak Dev ji sat with joy. He spoke to Chamba Nath with smiles: “in which home do you live in? What is your ideology? Let go of your silence and say your ideology. You didn’t speak anything. The other Sidhs spoke. I am asking you for this reason.” Chamba Nath said: “the speaker speaks, the weigher weighs. The player plays; I have no task with them. The singer sings; the stopper stops; the goer goes; the runner runs. There is no Raavan nor Ram; no Devata nor Daanav. There is only One at play. The only One lives in all and has created everything. I have decided that there is only the One. This has given me the great bliss.” Guru ji and Chamba Nath met. They bowed their heads in joy. Chamba Nath had no more doubts. There was a lot of bliss. Gopi Chand, Ghughu Nath, Chamba Nath and Mangal Nath, they all had bliss in their hearts along with Bharthri and others. They all said with their hands folded: “you are the Ishwar, the Giver of Mukti. You are the Parmaadh, Niranjan form. You blessed us with your Darshan. With your blessing, we have received Mukti without doubts today.”
Many were in bliss. Many were happy. Some were the same. Some were angry and said: “we will see your power. You speak big words in front of us.” The Sidhs started to show their powers. Gopi Chand said: “listen Mangal, oh great Jogi, these fools are arguing with the Guru without thinking. They don’t listen or say good things. They are like magician actors, showing off their powers.” Mangal Nath said: “let them do what they want to do. The Jag Nath (the Master of the World) is the greatest. He will destroy their egos. Guru ji is not lesser than them. These Sidhs will be embarrassed when they lose. They will stop then. They will use their powers like shooting arrows at a rock. Gopi Chand, just watch their show.” Bhangar, Surat Sidh, Jhangar, Nirat Sidh, Langar, Kanak, Shamboo Nath were many. They were angry. They made their deer skins fly and made their Bairaagans hover. They played their deer horns to make noise. Some made their sticks fly. Some made their possessions fly in the sky. Many rings and stones flew in the sky. Everyone used all the strength of their powers. They were egotistical, showing off their powers. The Sidhs flew like the birds. The sky was filled with the Sidhs and other objects. Guru Nanak Dev ji sat there quietly. He watched the drama and didn’t say anything. The Sidhs thought Guru ji got scared seeing them fly. Their egos became bigger. They became more eager. They came close to Guru ji and said with anger: “do you see the Siddhis of the Sidhs? You sit and show off your words. You call yourself a Tappa and are proud of it. We tried to make you understand but you didn’t listen. You saw our power and now you are sitting their quietly. Follow the Sidhs, there’s still time. Let go of your stubbornness. Become Gorakh’s student and wear earrings. You will be like us. You will have the treasure of Yog. Rub white ash and tie a Langote. The pain of old age will go away. You will always stay with us. You will become powerful. Others will worship you. Become our follower or show your powers. Do one of the two or else you will die.” Guru ji heard this and laughed. The Home of all the Powers spoke calmly: “oh my sandal, go and fly in the sky. Show your power. Hit the Sidhs in the head and make them fall.” As Guru ji spoke, his sandal flew up into the sky and broke the power of the Sidhs. It was like a hawk hunting the sparrows. The sandal flew over everyone and pulled everyone down. It was like the warrior over the cowards; like the lion over the deer; like the Garud over snakes; the arrow over the target; Gyaan over Agyaan; the Compassionate Parmeshwar destroying the Hurters of saints; Naam Simran over sins; Bhagti over duality; panther over goats; not being scared; that is how the sandal was over the power of the Sidhs. It destroyed their power. It slapped the Sidhs and threw them down. The Sidhs lost their patience. The power of the Sidhs was attacked. The Sidhs became embarrassed. They lowered their eyes. They were like defeated warriors. They all became quiet.
Gopi Chand, Bharthri, Mangal Nath and the others laughed and were happy in their hearts. They clapped and laughed. They said: “they needed this! What was needed, that was done.” Mangal Nath said: “Gorakh Nath ji, do you see how the Tappa is? The ones who argued with him, they are all embarrassed now. They don’t speak. They were inflated with their egos. They are cowards now in front of the warrior. They were illuminated like stars in the darkness. When the sun came out, they all disappeared.”
Gorakh Nath said: “you speak the truth. Not even a rye of lie you speak.” Khinthra Nath came to Guru ji and sat near him. He said: “without Jog, the mind is not pure. Just as the mirror cannot be clean without rubbing it. What effort did you apply for jog? Tell me.” Guru ji said: “there are 3 actions of Pranayama: Poorak, Kumbhak and Rechak. By listening to the words of Prema Bhagti, that is the Poorak, the inhaling. To focus on the Naam is the Kumbhak, holding the breath in the Dasam Duar. Letting go of the desires and pleasures of the vices is the Rechak, the exhaling. Let go of the bad thoughts. In Kaliyuga, this is the Jog that gives Mukti. Accept this.” Khinthra heard this and became over-joyed. He grabbed Guru ji’s feet and said: “you are the Avatar of the Kartar that has come to destroy hypocrisy.”
Ooram Sidh and Dhooram Sidh then came and said: “where does the Munn (mind) live? Where does the wind stay? Who is the King and who is the minister? How do the bonds occur? How does the body become immortal? Who is the Guru? Who is the student? Where is the joyful home? How does the attachment of Maya break? Tell us. Gorakh has the answers to these questions. Become his student and obey him. Learn the wisdom from him. You will get the highest status from this. There is no one equal to him.” Guru ji said: “the Munn lives in the heart, the wind lives in the navel. The mind is the king and the Pranas are the minister. The pleasures of the vices are the bonds on the body. In the Dasam (10th) Door, if the breath stays there, the body does not die. The Shabad is the Guru and the student is the awareness. The joyful home is the Turiya Padh – living above the Satogun, Rajogun and Tamogun. When Gyaan comes, the attachment of Maya breaks. (The world is Brahm but because of no Gyaan, we saw the statuses and pleasures of the world. It is like seeing a rope in the darkness and thinking it is a snake.) To give this wisdom is why I came. I didn’t come to make students.”
Dhangar asked Sri Guru ji: “who is your father? Who is your mother? Are you are Jogi, Bhogi or sogi? Do you stay happy? Tell me the truth. By which illumination did your chains break? What made your Bhuddi pure? Take the wisdom of Gorakh. Your body will be undefeatable in the world. You will never lose.” The Pankaj Lochan said: “Santokh (contentment) is my father; forgiveness is my good mother. I am not a Bhogi, Jogi or sogi. I am not happy nor sad. I am like a lotus living in the water, never drenched by the water. The chains were broken by the illumination of Oankaar. Meeting the Guru, my Bhuddi became pure. Gorakh and the other Sidhs with you, I will give them wisdom.”
Gorakh Nath then thought to himself: “we should show him a lot of wealth. He will come into our Panth then. I need to make him greedy. I will show him temptation.” Gorakh gave a bowl to Guru ji and said: “child, go to the pond and bring water. You will become without pain.” Guru ji took the bowl and went to the pool. When he came to the pond, there was no water there. There were diamonds, rubies, emeralds and sapphires in the pond. Guru ji looked at the pond and stood there. The gems were shining in the light. Seeing Gorakh’s trick, The Root of the Universe turned back. Guru ji came to Gorakh Nath and said: “there is no water there. Take your bowl.” Guru ji, the Deen Dayal, sat near Gorakh Nath.
1-64 Taking Leave from the Sidhs
My mind is like a mouse, running in the burrows of desires. How can it be caught? The love of Guru ji’s feet is heavy like mercury. The mouse-like mind should drink this mercury so it sits still.
Sri Bala Sandhur Vaach..
When the Sidhs tried many things, they got tired. They couldn’t win over Guru ji. Gorakh Nath got worried: “we tried many things but all went to waste.” The Sidhs got together and came. The ones who had run away out of defeat, they all came back. They sat in front of Guru Nanak Dev ji. For a long time, everyone stayed quiet. Gorakh thought deeply and then said: “accept my words. Listen to what I am saying: become the master of the Sidhs. Cast your command over all. Wear earrings and carry a bag. Rub Bibhuti (ash) on your body. Wear a Khintha and enter the order of the Sidhs. Take our food and eat it. Play the deer horn with your mouth. Hold a stick in your hand and trust the Sidhs. You will gain great powers and win the whole world. Meet others and say: Adesh! Add Nath to your name and live for many Yugas. Keep the Jog and meet the Jogis with joy. Be called the son of the One Mother. The Jogis and the followers of Jog, all of these Sidhs will be your servants in your court. There will be no one higher than you. You will sit as the Master of all. Sit anywhere you wish to. The people will bring you gifts and food. Cast your command everywhere. Do this task.” Guru ji heard this and said: “there is nothing for me to do. Everything has already been made. What new thing should I do?
Sri Mukhvaak.
Make contentment your earrings, humility your begging bowl, and the Dhyaan be the ashes you apply to your body.
Let the remembrance of death be the Khintha, the patched coat you wear, let the purity of virginity be your way in the world, and let faith in the Lord be your walking stick.
I belong to the Ayee Panth, the brotherhood of all mankind, see that as the highest order of Yogis; conquer your own mind and with it conquer the world.
I bow to Him, I humbly bow.
The Primal One, the Pure Light, without beginning, without end. Throughout all the ages, He is One and the Same. ||28||
Let Gyaan be your food, and compassion your attendant. The Sound-current of the Naad vibrates in each and every heart.
He Himself is the Supreme Master of all; wealth, Ridhis and Siddhis, and all other external tastes and pleasures, are all like beads on a string.
Union with Him, and separation from Him, come by His Will. We come to receive what is written in our destiny.
I bow to Him, I humbly bow.
The Primal One, the Pure Light, without beginning, without end. Throughout all the ages, He is One and the Same. ||29||
The One Divine Mother conceived and gave birth to the three deities.
One, the Creator of the World; One, the Sustainer; and One, the Destroyer.
He makes things happen according to the Pleasure of His Will. Such is His Celestial Order.
He watches over all, but none see Him. It is a beg amazement!
I bow to Him, I humbly bow.
The Primal One, the Pure Light, without beginning, without end. Throughout all the ages, He is One and the Same. ||30||
On world after world are His Seats of Authority and His Storehouses.
Whatever was put into them, was put there once and for all.
Having created the creation, the Creator Lord watches over it.
O Nanak, True is the Creation of the True Lord.
I bow to Him, I humbly bow.
The Primal One, the Pure Light, without beginning, without end. Throughout all the ages, He is One and the Same. ||31||
(SGGS 6-7)
Gorakh heard Guru ji’s words and said: “why did you come here? How did you come here? What is your intention? Tell me. I will fulfill your wishes. Believe my words.” Sri Guru ji said: “my wishes have been fulfilled by the complete Satguru, all at once. If you wish to take my indoctrination, you can. I will fulfill all that you wish for. I will get what you wish for from the Kartaar. Tell me once.” Gorakh became quiet after hearing Guru ji. He didn’t say anything. The wish to bring Guru ji into the Jog Panth was erased, like a wave in the ocean immersing back into the ocean.
Mangal Nath spoke: “listen Gorakh Nath ji, oh king of the Sidhs: has Guru Nanak Dev ji taken your wisdom and acceptance into your Panth?” He said this jokingly. Gorakh said: “I was testing him to see if he was complete or empty. I have understood your true words. He is exactly how you said he was. He is the complete being, the cloud of Gyaan. He is beautiful in his actions and his speech.” Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji had many conversations with the Sidhs. Guru ji stayed there for a long time.
Bhai Mardana ji asked: “are we going on ahead from here or not? We should see the other places as well, if it be your wish.” Listen Guru Angad Dev ji, oh Giver of Mukti, Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji said to me: “Bala, what is in your mind?” I said: “oh Prabhoo Kirpala, I am under your command. Do what is in your heart.” Guru ji, the Pankaj Naina, stayed there. Praan Nath Jogi then came and sat next to Guru ji. He said: “Adesh! Whatever clothes and food you wish for, take it from me. If you eat my food, you will never be hungry again. You will never be naked again. You can wear expensive clothes.” Hearing Praan Nath’s words, Guru ji, the still and unlimited One spoke: “I wear the cloth of Santokh. The Simran with my mouth is tasty. The Prema Bhagti are my clothes which are never old. They are always new. These clothes are beautiful in both worlds, radiant. I am above hunger and nakedness.” Praan Nath heard this and had love arise in his heart. He got up to touch Guru ji’s feet with love. When Sri Guru ji saw his love, he respected him a lot. Guru ji didn’t let Praan Nath bow to him. He held his head and hugged it. They both met with love and joy. Praan Nath then said: “I have met the Niranjan now. You are the home of unlimited powers and virtues. You are Kartaar himself. You came to save the people of Kaliyuga. You took on a human body for them. Whoever doesn’t see you for who you are, they are not Jogis. They are unwise.” He folded his hands and spoke with love. He continued: “we are fortunate to have your Darshan. You came here to save me. I have been doing Jog for a very long time. I finally got rewarded for it.” Sri Guru ji said: “you are Dhan, oh Jogi. You are without the illness of ego. The Niranjan is compassionate with you. He is more compassionate with you.” Both were happy to speak to each other.
Mangal Nath said: “Praan Nath, how did you find Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji?” Praan Nath said: “I have understood that he is the Niranjan. Whatever you told me about him, there was not a rye of lie in that.” When Praan Nath left, Bhai Mardana ji spoke: “this Jogi had a good personality. He spoke sweet words. He was happy to have your Darshan. It was like a long-lost friend meeting you.” Sri Guru ji said: “whoever the Kartaar is compassionate over, that person has these types of qualities. Other fools don’t understand this. Out of all the Naths, Praan Nath is the highest. Nobody else is higher than him.” Bhai Mardana ji said: “tell me the names of all the Naths and the Jattis. How many Sidhs are there?”
Sri Guru ji said: “all of the Sidhs call themselves Naths but there are 9 Naths. They are the wise and great ones. I will tell you their names:
Praan Nath, Gopi Chand, Surat Nath (who will not be taken by the Jumms), Gorakh Nath, Machinder Nath, Mangal Nath, Charpat, Chamba, Ghughu the wise.
Listen to the Jattis: Lakshan, Gorakh, Hanuman, Bheesham, Bharo, Datta Treya.
I will tell you the names of the 84 Sidhs: Soor Sidh, Lohareepa, Bhangar, Hajji Rattan, Khinthra, Jhangar, Keval Karan, Jaalika, Sanghar, Samrath, Nirat, Bimalka, Langar, Pooran, Naasik, Aughar, Ooram, Bharthri, Ishar, Parbhat, Dhooram, Jot Magan, Sidh Sain, Haneepha, Rai Ain, Patpraan, Kaneepha, Bimal Jot, Seetal Jal, Ghirvar, Chatturbain, Mukteeshar, Girdhar, Soor Ain, Ghirbodh, Palak Nidh, Shamboo, Maghandhaar, Kanka Sidh, Gaunguaal, Kalindray, Darshan, Chalanjot, Tulsa, Govardhan, Kevalkarmi, Kalabilaasi, Bhootvay, Keskaran, Kramnaasi, Sandhar, Kisankuaar, Asarnidh, Palka, Ram Kumaar, Ram Sidh, Meer Hussaini, Apanroopi, Meer Jambeel, Kalaisanbhoopi, Jog Hare, Khulaas, Kasdhoopi, Kevalkarmi, Jog Anoopi, Mool Mantri, Kidaar, Ik Rangi, Nasika, Silsila, Turatrangi, Kelankal, Kranjog, Bachitra, Isarprangi, Yogpavitra, Sambhalka, Bihangam, Jogi, Brahmangjogi, Brahmangbhogi, Sarsuti, Bisanpatti, Gandhari, Vaasigupha, Brahm Bratdhaari, Mughal Jog; these are the 84 Sidhs. Understand them.”
Bhai Mardana ji said: “whatever you said, I have heard the names of all the Sidhs and the Jattis. I have one doubt though. Please answer that and then we can leave. The ones who have not had coitus with women, there are many of them. Why did you only mention 6 Jattis? This is a doubt I have.” Guru ji heard this and said: “they are not Jattis whom you are thinking of. The seed comes out through the Indrees. The true Jattis are the ones who do not release their semen through any Indrees. One can be aroused by sight as well which can lead to the release of semen. One can also listen to the words of women and be aroused. This can lead to the release of semen. Speaking to women with lust can do the same. Touching body parts surely releases semen. There are 8 types of “bhogs” (indulgence of pleasure). The who does not engage in any 8, that person is known as the true Jatti. That person has won the “Kaam” (lust). There are only 6 Jattis, none other.” Bhai Mardana ji heard this and was convinced. He then said: “if you wish, shall we go on ahead? The higher places from here, I wish to see them.” Sri Guru ji said: “there is no delay. Let’s go and see what you want to see.” After saying this, Sri Guru ji, the Giver of Joy, got ready to leave from the Sumer Mountain. Gopi Chand saw this and said: “Mangal Nath, listen to me with your ear: Nanak Tappa ji is ready to leave. Let’s go and give him respect. See if you can convince him to stay here. That will be the best. His words are drenched in Gyaan. His Sangat is successful. It is full of blessings.” Gopi Chand spoke with joy.
The Sidhs came to Sri Guru ji. Ghughu Nath, Mangal Nath, and Praan Nath, all came with love. Bharthri, Gopi Nath the wise; they sat with Guru ji with love. They folded their hands and said: “stay here, oh Tappa ji. Why are you leaving? Bless the Sidh Mandali. Stay here and tell us the Katha of the Niranjan. You have no bondages. You have no tasks with the world. Give us your Darshan at the Sumer Mountain. Stay here.” Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji heard this and said: “I have no other bondages. I only wish to do Darshan of the saints. Their Sangat has all of the joys. To stay in one place, I have let that go. By meeting the Satguru, my bonds were broken. My focus is always in the Nirankaar. My sense of self identity is gone. My sight and focus go nowhere else. I only think of the place of Kartaar. My love is in the feet of Akaal Purakh’s feet. Without that, I am not at rest.” Mangal Nath then spoke: “you are Kartaar! Your Darshan is rare and difficult. All of us discuss this. The time we spent with you was a great success. Please be compassionate and stay here for some time. You can go after that.” Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji heard this and said: “all of you are beloved to me like my Pranas. We will meet again after some time. I have to go now as I have some important tasks. Be compassionate and give me permission to leave. Give me your joy.” Mangal Nath and the other Sidhs said: “look Tappa ji, do as you wish. The Niranjan is always happy with you. You can play as you wish. Every place is yours. We don’t see another master.” The Pankaj Badan stood up and was about to leave. He said “Adesh” to all. The Sidhs all had love for the King of the Universe. Mangal Nath, Praan Nath and Lohareepa came close to Guru Nanak Dev ji. Gopi Chand and the others met Guru ji with joy. They looked towards Chander Badan like Chakors looking at the moon. They all bowed to Guru ji’s lotus feet. Their minds were like bees. They all listened to Guru ji with respect. They walked for a while with Guru ji to see him off. Guru ji loved the Sidhs and gave them leave to go back. Sri Guru ji then travelled onwards.
1-65 Kaak Bhasund/ Datta Treya
If you wish to acquire something then think of the Satguru’s feet. You will get all the joys while being alive and receive Mukti in your end time.
Sri Bala Sandhur Vaach..
Guru ji arrived in a new place, continuing on his travels. Kaak Bhasund ji, the greatest of the birds, was sitting there. Kaak Bhasund was known to do the Katha of Parmeshwar all the time. He was the Rishi of the Behungams (birds). Many Sadhoos from the bird species were there with him. Kaak Bhasund ji was sitting among them. He was sitting in the middle and doing the Katha with love. The Behungams listened with a deep love and devotion. They all did Bhagti with great love and eagerness. The Giver of Joys came and sat there. Bhai Mardana ji and I were with him. When Kaak Bhasund ji finished his Katha, all of the birds bowed their heads. After some time, Bhai Mardana ji sang a Shabad. Kaak Bhasund ji heard the Shabad and became drenched with love. He was like a Chakor looking at the full moon; like the ocean striking its waves, wishing to hug the moon; Kaak Bhasund was in love and went into Samadhi. Bhai Mardana ji sang for a while. When he finished, he sat quietly. Kaak Bhasund ji opened his eyes after and spoke sweet words: “whose Shabad did you just sing? This was fire for the great jungle of attachment in the mind. Hearing this, love arose in my mind. You sang it in a great Raag. Tell me the name of the one who wrote this. That person must be drenched in the colour of Bhagti.” Bhai Mardana ji said: “Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji, the Prabhoo, the Giver of Mukti; this is his Shabad which I just sang. He is the beautiful Avatar of Nirankaar.” Kaak Bhasund ji heard this and quickly came to grab Guru Nanak Dev ji’s feet. He bowed to Guru ji’s feet. Seeing this, the other birds also came to bow to the Lotus Feet of Guru Nanak Dev ji. Kaak Bhasund ji folded his hands and said to the Prabhoo: “I have already received news that Hari was going to come in the Kaliyuga (quoting from the Bavish Purana written be Ved Vyaas ji) to save the people. I wanted to meet the Compassionate Form. I had this wish in my heart. The great and auspicious day finally came today. You came to my home! You came to Humble me, to give me your Darshan. You are the Light of the Bedi Clan (Ved Vyaas ji mentions that Hari himself will come in Kaliyuga in the Bedi Clan). You fulfilled my wishes. I saw your form with my own eyes. Blessed is the time and day that I’ve seen you. Fortunate, I see myself as. People are unwise in Kaliyuga. They have become fools (in chasing pleasures). Because of attachment and desires overtaking their wisdom, the Dharma has become spoiled. Their attachments and desires are growing by the day. You came to give them all the righteous path. You came to open the stubborn knots of ego, attachment and desires in the Bhuddi. You took on a human form and came into the world. You are the support of all 3 Loks. The ones who come to the shelter of your feet, why would they not be released from the cycle of life and death? The ones who earn your words and live by them, they will become purer than Teeraths. You have the power of Gyaan. Whoever reads your words, why would they not receive Mukti?” Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji said: “you are supreme in every way! You do Bhagti, continuously. You are the greatest listener.” Kaak Bhasund ji said: “oh Satguru Deena Nath ji (the master of the humble), assist me! How many types of listeners are there? Please tell me.”
Satguru ji said: “there are 5 types of listeners in this world. I will tell you: 1. The ones who understand Raags and Raagnis. 2. The ones who have wisdom of Sur (pitch). 3. The ones who listen to the Taal (beats) with love. 4. The ones who enjoy the instruments. 5. The ones who try to understand the meanings of the Shabad. They understand the cream of the Shabad with great wisdom. These types are the greatest. They understand the meanings and are wise. They are great in every way and every place. They understand the meanings and receive joy. They are always drenched in Prema Bhagti. That person becomes “Chiranjeev,” lives forever. The ones who ponder on the meaning with love, that person eats the cream and becomes satiated. The other 4 types of listeners are just eating the peel or the barks. They fall in love with eating the peel of the fruit. They get stuck in useless tastes. They don’t know the internal taste. You know the taste of the Satsangat and have achieved the Chiranjeevi status.”
When Bhai Mardana ji heard this, he said: “Rishi ji, please tell me how old are you? How many Yugas have you seen go by?” Kaak Bhasund ji said: “I have been sitting here for a very long time. When 1,000 Yugas pass, then it is 1 day of Brahma. The same length is the night. Months are formed in the same way. When such 100 Divine years of Brahma pass, Brahma’s age finishes. I have seen many Brahmas pass. I have seen many “Parlos,” (complete destructions). I have seen the world destroyed and created again many times. I’ve seen Brahma being born and create the universe many times. He creates the non-sentient and sentient life forms, Suras, Asuras and many types of creations. I have seen many Brahmas die and born again. Many I have seen. They keep coming back. I have been sitting here and singing the glories of Hari. I sit in Dhyaan of Parmeshwar and receive bliss in my heart.” (Kaak Bhasund had the ability to time travel and travel to many types of Multiverses, seeing the life of Ram Chander ji play out 11 times and the Mahabharat 16 times with varying results, as described by Sri Valmiki ji in his Ramayana and by Sri Tulsidas ji in his Ram Charitmanas) Bhai Mardana ji was amazed to hear this and went quiet. Listen, oh Compassionate One, Guru Angad Dev ji: I then asked: “you are the greatest of all the Bhagats of Hari. You destroyed your attachment and received the Aatam Gyaan. You are greater than everyone else in many ways. How did you become a crow? This is a great doubt and question I have in my mind. Please answer my question oh virtuous one.”
Kaak Bhasund ji said: “listen to how I came into the body of a crow: in one birth I was born as a Shoodra and did Seva of Shiv with great love. I had hatred towards Vishnu. I did not see anyone else. I lived in Ayodhya when a great drought came. I left and came to Ujjain. There, lived a Brahmin who was in bliss. He destroyed his duality and his desires. He became my Guru and I started to live there. He wanted me to do the Bhagti of Vishnu. Hearing this, my heart burned. I had always loved the Bhagti of Shiv. I hated hearing Vishnu’s name. I stubbornly would refuse to do Bhagti of Vishnu. I didn’t want to hear my Guru’s words. My Guru gave me wisdom in many ways but I didn’t listen. I was egotistical and saw everyone as lower than me. I had become a hypocrite. I had become a show-off. I liked this.
One day I was sitting in the Mandir of Shiv when my Guru, the compassionate one, came. I didn’t get up to respect him. I didn’t bow my head to him in pride. For my Guru, respect and disrespect was the same to him; joy and sorrow did not affect him. He saw everything as the same so he didn’t say anything. I heard a voice from the Mandir of Shiv ji (Shiv speaking himself), saying: “you corrupt person! You will go to hell for this blasphemous act! You will then fall into damned species and take many births. You will suffer a great punishment for your lack of showing respect to your Guru. You are a hypocrite and an egotistical person. You hate Vishnu and disrespect your Guru. You will have to suffer the stick of the Jumms. Your pain will grow.” When my Guru heard this curse, he became compassionate. He prayed to Shiv Shamboo by praising him in many ways. Chander Choor (Shiv) then said: “oh Dwij (Brahmin), because of your compassion, your student will remember all of his births. My curse never goes without effect so he will have to suffer the pains of Hell.” I had to go to Hell then and suffer heavy punishments of pain. The Jumms had their noose around my neck. After a long time, I was taken out of Hell and put into 8,400,000 species of births. I was born as everything. I was born in every species and died. I then became a Brahmin and I did Bhagti of Sargun. I remembered all of my births by the words of Shiv ji. The curse became a boon for me. One day, Lomas Rishi was doing Katha. I saw and listened to his Katha and told him my wish. He then said: “do the Upasana of Nirgun.” I didn’t like anything. He tried to convince me but I didn’t listen. I kept asking about the Sargun. I kept raising doubts about the Nirgun. Lomas ji saw my wisdom as corrupt. He got angry and then spoke: “you take sides of wings. You keep doubting me. I thought you were deserving of wisdom so I kept speaking to you. You will become the lowest type of bird, the crow. This is my curse to you.” I was destined to be born as a crow. I folded my hands and praised him: “your curse will become reality, I know this. Please see me as your follower. Cast your compassionate vision on me. Give me the boon of keeping my memory. I don’t want to forget my memory.” Lomas became compassionate and said: “you won’t forget anything as a crow. You will eventually get to know the Aatam Gyaan and live in bliss. You will have my compassion. I will give you another boon: you will die when you wish. Without your wish, death will not come to you.” Hearing this I became happy and came here. This place gave me peace. I don’t leave this body now. Prema Bhagti gives me bliss. I am born as a crow but I am in bliss. I didn’t let go of this body as I received the Anand, bliss, in this life form.”
In this way Kaak Bhasund ji spoke of his Katha. Sri Guru ji was ready to go on ahead. Both bowed to each other. Guru ji headed towards the higher realms. Above Kaak Bhasund ji was Sri Datta Treya ji, the wise. He knew Aatam Gyaan like an Amla on the palm. He started the tradition of the Sanyasi order. He was the detached “Virakat.” He wandered as an Udaasi. He had 24 Gurus in his life (as described in Dasam Guru Granth Sahib ji. Datta Treya was the Avatar of Shiv. He was told by Akaal Purakh’s holy words to take on a Guru. He saw Akaal Purakh as his first Guru and his own mind as his second Guru. He learned to focus from a heron waiting to catch a fish. He learnt from a married girl who removed her bangles to not disturb anyone; one should not have many wishes because it would make too much noise. The cotton weaver was his next Guru who focused on his work as the King’s army travelled by. He had other Gurus as mentioned by Guru Gobind Singh ji in the Datt Avatar Bani). He was drenched in the colour of Ikankaar. He saw the pleasures of the 3 Loks like a piece of grass and rejected them. He only loved the Brahm. He was the knower of the Param Tatt. He was a great Munni who won all his Indrees (senses). He was a great Gyaani. Guru ji went close to him and stood in front. Datta Treya ji was laying down in bliss with his eyes closed. He was silent. He was savoring the internal taste of bliss. Bhai Mardana ji said to Guru ji: “oh Prabhoo, who is this great being that lays here? He is connected in his Samadhi. He is still and laying down. We should talk to him. We should listen to his words. Let’s listen to him first and then give him your Gyaan.” Sri Guru ji said: “listen Mardana, this is the great Datta Treya. He is the greatest Avdhoot (the destroyer of vices) in the world. He is always in a still state. His wisdom is pure. He remains detached from his body while living in it. He remains without wobbling. He has received the bliss of the Aatma which cannot be measured.”
Listen Guru Angad Dev ji to the Katha: I then spoke: “Sri Guru ji, I have heard his name. I have heard that Datta Treya ji was in the world. By your compassion, I got to see him. I have read that he is a Param Hans Avdhoot, the Sanyasi. We should speak to him. We should call to him. Let’s speak and listen about Gyaan with him. If he speaks, we can see what his ideology is. We can’t know that with him staying silent.” Sri Guru ji then spoke: “you are a body but don’t speak. Don’t stay without any action till you are in a body. Listen to my words in your mind. Open your eyes but keep your mind still. You will still remain still if you open your eyes. Your mind will never wander. The One is everywhere, in everyone. There is no one other than the Kartaar in every heart.” Sri Datta Treya ji said: “I have no task with the world. It is not my nature to speak. I have let go of all wishes. I am without wishes. My mind is still. It does not wonder. You have blessed me in the best way. You live inside me, whom I am connected with. Your form lives in my every hair of my body in the best way. What shall I say with my tongue?” Guru ji heard his words and said: “you are Dhan to remain so still. Aatam Gyaan resides in your heart like the ocean. It is like the fish living in the ocean. You are always in the Aatam Gyaan. People call jewellery: earrings, bracelets and rings but you don’t see the form. You only see the gold. You only see the Aatma in everyone and the world. The forms are false to you. You see the truth in the best way.” Datta Treya ji opened his eyes and met Guru ji. Both met with great joy. They sat together for a long time. Guru ji then got ready to leave. Both bowed to each other. Sri Guru ji then continued on with the travels. The Kamal Badan was the giver of Joy. The Adhyaaya is now complete.
