Poorbaardh 1.46 – 1.50

1-46 Mardana is given Akk and Khakhri to eat/ Going to Kamroop

Meditating on the feet of Sri Guru ji, it is like a strong tree.  Love is the water; poetry, the flower, blossoming when watered.  The great fruit is the collection of all the wisdom.

Sri Bala Sandhur Vaach..

The Master travelled.  The two of us were with him.  He was the Ocean of Compassion who gave us the Gyaan in Kathas.  The Govind, giver of Mukti, first went to Bhai Lallo ji.  Bhai Lallo ji saw Guru ji and bowed to him.  Love sprouted in his heart.  He laid out a beautiful bed and had Guru ji sit on it with love.  Bhai Lallo ji was thirsty for Amrit.  He drank as much as he could from Guru ji’s Darshan.  Guru ji stayed there for 5 nights and travelled on.  Saying his name makes the sins go away.  Bhai Lallo ji came very far to see Guru ji off.  He was drenched in love, he didn’t want to go home.  Guru ji insisted many times for him to go home.  Bhai Lallo ji finally turned back.  He meditated on the form of Guru Nanak Dev ji all the time.

Where the land of Dhakka, Bengal; where a lot of Mantras are said for magic, we all headed that way.  Guru ji walked slowly and softly.  Wherever there was a village along the way, we stayed there.  We set off in the morning.  After travelling for 3 days, we didn’t get any food from anywhere.  I wasn’t hungry because Guru ji gave me the strength to withstand hunger.  I was in bliss, day and night.  Bhai Mardana ji was really hungry.  He got anxious.  Guru ji gave him the hunger to do a drama.  Bhai Mardana ji was getting hungry and was getting angry.  He didn’t say anything though.  Without strength, he was losing patience.  He became weak and felt pain.  He thought to himself: “how will I stay in his Sangat?  He doesn’t eat or drink anything.  I think I will die like this in some place.  He can stay without food, anywhere.”  Sri Guru ji knew what Bhai Mardana ji was thinking.  He was omniscient.  He smiled slightly towards Bhai Mardana ji.  Guru ji gives to all.  Guru ji laughed and said: “what is your news?  What do you wish to say?  You are walking quietly and humbly.  Your face was blossoming before but it looks like its wilting now.”  Bhai Mardana ji said: “you are the Parmeshwar and the Master of the universe.  You are never hungry nor thirsty.  You never think about eating.  How will I stay with you?  It has been 3 days without food.  I am getting anxious.  I will die with sorrow and hunger.  You don’t eat nor give me anything to eat.”  The Mine of Virtues laughed out loud.  Compassion was in his eyes.  Guru ji said: “don’t worry.  I won’t let you die.  If you do die, I will make you alive again.”  There was an Akk plant nearby.  Guru ji looked at the plant and said: “take the fruits (Khakhris) and eat them.  Your hunger will calm down.”  Bhai Mardana ji said: “are you joking with me?  These are poisonous.  How will I eat them?  I will die.”  The Lotus bodied One said while smiling: “eat as many as you can.  Don’t be greedy afterwards for more.  Don’t keep anything with you either, oh wise one.  As much hunger you have, satisfy it with these fruits.  You will be in peace.  You won’t be in pain.  You won’t die.  Obey my words.  Eat.”  Bhai Mardana ji heard this and obeyed.  He ate the Akk fruits with joy.  They were sweet.  He broke them from the branch and ate them.  They tasted better than Amrit.  He filled his belly.  He couldn’t stop but had no more room.  I was with him as well.  The greed did not stop.  Bhai Mardana ji broke some fruit and tied them to his shirt.  He broke as much needed for a whole day’s worth.  He hid them from Guru ji.

The next day, Bhai Mardana ji was hungry again.  He stayed quiet and took out the Akk fruit.  As soon as he ate the fruit, he became anxious.  He yelled out in pain: “I’m going to die!”  He laid down on the ground and wagged his legs.  He yelled: “Guru ji I’m going to die!”  He rubbed his stomach.  He sat up and squished his face.  He didn’t say what he had done, out of embarrassment.  He was in pain.  He was upset.  He was worried.  He suffered.  The Giver of joy to his Sikhs, Guru ji, saw Bhai Mardana ji’s painful state.  Guru ji smiled and said to Bhai Mardana ji: “you kept the fruit with you, didn’t you?  You became greedy.  If you would have asked me about taking fruit there, you wouldn’t be in so much pain now.  You should have asked me.”  Bhai Mardana ji understood that Guru ji figured out what he had done.  He said: “I did this due to my unwise nature.  I didn’t know what was going to happen.  I ate the fruit like it was before.  I ate them and felt pain.  I broke the fruit and hid them from you.  I thought that I would eat them the next day.”  There was another Akk tree there.  Guru ji saw it and broke some of the fruit with his hands.  He gave the fruit to Bhai Mardana ji to rid him of the pain.  As soon as Bhai Mardana ji ate it, he felt at ease.  He was happy.  The pain was all gone.  He folded his hands and bowed his head, many times.  After this event, Guru ji and the two of us travelled on.  Guru ji joked around with us about the situation.  We had some good laughs recalling the events as we walked.

Guru ji spoke great wisdom.  Our doubts were being dispelled.  Guru ji walked slowly.  It was a blissful walk.  We saw villages go by.  We stayed in the villages during the night.  I saw Guru ji gave wisdom to many and give them Mukti.  It was amazing!

We soon reached Kavroo (Kamroop) and entered the land.  Guru ji was in the form of a Dervish.  In Kavroo, people did Mantras, Jantras and Tantras.  The women did a lot of magic here.  They were experts in those techniques.  As we came into the city, Guru ji sat under the shade of a tree.  We sat there for just under an hour when Bhai Mardana ji said: “oh Prabhoo ji, this is a very beautiful land.  There are many beautiful trees here.  Betelnut, Paan, Taal and Tamaal trees are here.  Their leaves are big and green.  Look how the branches are bending.  The banana gardens are full of bananas.  The men and women here dress differently.  Please give me permission to go into the city.  I will roam the city and find something to eat.  I am hungry again.  I don’t lie in front of you.  I am really hungry.”  Sri Guru ji said: “don’t go into the city, Mardana.  Understand this.  This is a place that will give you pain.  Believe me.  It’s not a place for you.”  Bhai Mardana ji said: “you are trying to scare me.  You didn’t go and eat anything yourself, nor did you give me anything to eat.  I have been walking with you.  How will I survive with you?  I will die without food with you.  How long can I tolerate the hunger?  Please give me your command to go and find food.  I will get food and come back quickly.”  Guru Nanak Dev ji understood that he was determined to go.  Guru ji said: “you have no patience.  Alright.  Go and see the city.  I don’t want this wish of yours to remain unfulfilled.  You desire food as well.  Go and eat.”  Bhai Mardana ji quickly go up and left.  He didn’t know why he was being stopped.

Bhai Mardana ji was happy to see the city.  He saw the beautiful women of the city.  The women’s nature was of such: they had uprooted the tree of good deeds, along with the leaves and roots.  They were like elephants who pulled the tree of their Karma.  They wanted to pull Bhai Mardana ji’s tree of good Karma as well.  The women kept their hair nice.  They wore soorma in their eyes and did their makeup.  They would take notice of foreigners coming into their land.  They would say Mantras and possess their minds.  They would never get tired indulging in acts of ill-repute with men.  The women were of bad character.  They had kept their husbands under their control with Mantras.  They did bad deeds.  When Baba Mardana ji came into the city, he went to a place to get food.  There were beautiful women there who were looking at him.  They spoke to others: “he’s mine!”  Another said: “he’s my friend.”  The third said: “I saw him first.”  The fourth quickly got up and put a string around Bhai Mardana ji’s neck.  She used her magic to turn Bhai Mardana ji into a lamb.  Bhai Mardana ji’s human body turned into a lamb.  He noticed that he was a lamb.  The string was a magical one.  The woman tied Bhai Mardana ji to a peg.  The handsome Bhai Mardana ji was now ugly.  He tried to jump.  He was aware of what happened to him but there was nothing he could do.  He was tied.  He was upset and depressed.  He thought to himself: “I didn’t know this was going to happen.  I didn’t obey Guru ji.  I have to suffer this pain now.  I did this to myself.  If someone doesn’t obey him, they will be in pain like me.  This land is not mine.  I lived in Talwandi but now I’m stuck in this foreign land.  Who will go and tell my Master of what happened to me?  How will he know to come here?  I can’t speak now.  How can I tell him to save me?  How will I be saved?”  He thought to himself in this way.  He thought of all this and became anxious.  He then thought: “he is omniscient.  He knows every heart.  He will come to save me.”  He thought of this in his heart.  He looked in all the 10 directions, looking for Guru ji to come.  He loved Guru ji’s feet.

After about 2 hours, Sri Guru ji said to me: “listen Bala, we should go and get Mardana.”  The Giver of Joy got up, quickly.  I said to him: “where are you going?  Where is Mardana?  Tell me, Compassionate One.”  Guru ji said: “he has become a lamb by Mantras.  He is tied to a peg.”  I said: “oh Compassionate One, this is what should have happened to him.  You stopped him but he didn’t listen.  He quickly went to the city.  I think you should leave him in pain for a little while.  When he is in pain, you can save him then.  He won’t disobey you again.  He will understand this.”  Guru ji said: “listen Bala, you are wise but I brought him with me.  I need to take care of him.  He loses his patience when he gets hungry.  I have many tasks for him to do still.  He is doing my Simran and is scared.  Let’s go and save him quickly.”  The complete Guru quickly went to save his servant.

I went with the Lotus face one to save Baba Mardana ji.  He had turned into an ugly lamb.  He saw Guru ji coming and started to jump in joy.  He flared his nostrils and blew air.  He scratched his hooves on to the ground.  There was nothing else he could do.  Guru ji saw Bhai Mardana ji and laughed out loud.  The Compassionate One went to the door of the woman who possessed Bhai Mardana ji.  She was pretty.  She was dressed well and had her makeup done.  The woman loved lust and was always looking for carnal pleasures.  The women noticed someone coming to the door.  There were 4 women sitting.  2 of them ran to the door.  They had strings in their hands and spoke Mantras.  They made their eyes dance and made sexual gestures with their bodies.  They smiled and had joy in their hearts.  One of the women tried to put a string around my neck but the vile woman turned into a lamb herself.  The second woman ran towards Sri Guru ji to put a string around his neck.  She became a dog, right away.  She was going to disrespect the Complete Being.  Only pain comes from this.  The other women got scared and ran away.  The dog and lamb, women, ran to their homes.  Bhai Mardana ji was jumping around to get Guru ji’s attention.  Guru ji said: “go Bala ji and break the string around Bhai Mardana ji’s neck.”  I quickly went and broke the string.  Bhai Mardana ji turned back into a human.  He came to Guru ji and bowed to his feet.  He said: “there are many big problems here.  I am a simple person and don’t know the crocked ways.”  Guru ji said: “listen to me Mardana: you didn’t listen to me and you did what you pleased.”  They spoke some more.

The women who turned into the dog and the lamb, went to their husbands and pointed towards the direction of Guru ji.  They couldn’t speak so they ran around frantically.  The dog wagged her tail.  The lamb jumped around.  The husbands saw their wives as animals.  They become worried and understood that a powerful saint had come: “our wives must have done a magical spell but it backfired.  We hope the saint doesn’t leave them like this.  We need to have them forgiven from the saint.”  The husbands ran and bowed to my feet.  They were humble.  I said to them: “the Master is over there.  Fold your hands and ask him for forgiveness.  He can forgive the mistakes of the women.”  The husbands ran to Guru ji and grabbed his feet.  They said: “please don’t be angry for their mistakes.  Saints are calm and cool.  They are never angry at anyone.  Our women were bad.  They are unwise and desired lust, all the time.  They received what they deserved.  Sadhoos don’t have desires.  They are never in sorrow or joy.  These women are unwise and fools who disrespected a complete saint.  They tried to possess you with their magic.  They don’t know good from bad.  They are always possessed with the desires for carnal pleasures.  Please bless them oh Compassionate One.  We take the shelter of your feet.  Please turn them back into humans, as before.  Forgive their sin.  We know that you are the Parmeshwar.”  Guru Nanak Dev ji said: “accept Gursikhi in your hearts.  Make a Dharamsala here and say the name of Hari.  Have love in your heart and let go of these sinful acts.  Do the Seva of Sikh Saints.  You will be well.  You will not go to the Jumms then.”  The men became humble and said: “we are under your command now.  We won’t follow anyone else.”  Guru ji said: “these women who do bad deeds, they deserve pain.  You made requests to me with humility so I will make them back into humans.”  As soon as Guru ji said this, the women turned into humans as they were before.  The women saw Guru ji’s handsome form and regretted their actions.

Guru ji stayed the night in their home.  He was fearless.  He slept in peace.  In the morning, the conches sounded in the Mandir.  The ocean of Joy woke up.  The people heard of Guru ji and came to Guru ji.  They came with gifts and bowed to his feet.  Guru ji gave them Charan Pahul and blessed them.  Their sins were washed away and they had become fortunate.  A Dharamsala was built soon.  The people became coloured in the praise of Parmeshwar.  Guru ji stayed there for 5 days and destroyed their sins.  Guru ji then said: “I need to go on ahead.”  The people folded their hands and said: “this place has come to be with your blessing.  We were unwise and you gave us Prema Bhagti.  You showed us the way to Mukti.  You are the giver of joy and Mukti.  You are the Prabhoo and the Saviour.  Stay here for a few more days.  You are the Supreme in this world.  You are the highest.  You give Mukti.”  Guru ji said: “say Vahiguru with your mouths everyday.  Make Karah Prashaad and do an Ardaas.  Your wishes will be fulfilled.  Have love for the Keertan of Hari.  Spend the most time in the Satsangat with great beings.  The filth of sins will be destroyed.”  Guru ji gave them instructions and then headed on.  Doing his Darshan makes one blessed.  In this way, Guru ji gave wisdom and went on to another land.  Guru ji headed towards Raja Shivnaab, to fulfill his wish.  (This place was called Dhanpur.  The people of Dhanpur asked Guru ji for something to remember him by.  Guru ji gave them a spear, which the people did Pooja of everyday.  The spear is still there till today.)

1-47 Going to Raja Shivnaab in Sangladeep

The beauty of the toenails of Sri Guru ji is like the beauty of the moon.  I make my mind into a Chakor and continue the Katha that gives Mukti.

Sri Bala Sandhur Vaach..

Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji headed onwards.  Bhai Mardana ji and I were with him.  In many places, Guru ji gave wisdom to all by saying: “do the Simran of Satnam, the Master of the Universe.”  He spread the path of Prema Bhagti to many villages.  As we walked, we reached the ocean.  Guru ji stood on the shores and spoke in a deep voice: “tell me Bala, this ocean is deep and can’t be figured out how deep it is; I wish to cross it.  How can we walk on top of the water?  There is no ship nearby by which we can cross it.  You are wise; give me a solution by which we can travel across.”  Listen Guru Angad Dev ji, oh Giver of Mukti: I said to Guru ji: “rocks sink in water but if you say your words, the rocks can sail across.  You have made strong mountains sail across the water, what can we say about humans?  Whoever says your name, day and night, they cross the world ocean, with ease, which is filled with fear.  This ocean is not hard to cross.  They can easily sail across this world ocean who say your name.”  Guru ji was happy to hear this.  He spoke the pleasant Bani:

Sri Mukhvaak..

Ik Oankaar Satnam Karta Purakh Nirbhao Nirvair Akaal Moorat Ajooni Saibhang Guruprasad..

Say this Salok and walk behind me.”  In this way, the mine of virtues walked on the ocean.  The water did not touch his feet.  Bhai Mardana ji and I walked behind Guru ji.  We too walked on top of the water.  Our feet did not get wet as well.  The Compassionate One blessed us.

We soon reached an island.  The destroyer of all pains, Guru ji made everyone say the Name of Akaal Purakh.  The island was called “Naga Bandar.”  We then headed on from there.  Where the land of Sangladeep was, Guru ji reached near there.  He came to that land because the Raja was remembering him.  The Raja had a garden which was completely dry.  As soon as Sri Guru ji entered the garden, the Giver of Joy, as soon as his feet set in the garden, the dry trees became green again.  The branches became beautiful and the leaves and fruit blossomed.  The garden became beautiful.  When the people of the village saw this, they were amazed.  The gardener heard about this and came to see Guru ji.  He bowed to Guru ji’s feet.  He was really happy in his heart.

The gardener went to Raja Shivnaab’s court and said: “listen Raja, I am speaking the truth: a great and powerful saint has come.  When his feet were placed in your dried-up garden, it became green right away.  I saw this with my own eyes.  Having his Darshan, I felt great.  He has two followers with him.  Come and see him with love and eagerness.”  The Raja heard this and was really happy.  He called his minister close to him and said to him: “go to the saint, the giver of joy.  If it is Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji then test him properly.”  The name of the minister was Parshuram.  The minister Parshuram heard this and packed delicious foods with him.  He headed towards the garden where the Compassionate One was sitting.

The Minister folded his hands and bowed to Guru ji.  He placed the delicious foods in front of Guru ji and said: “saint ji, please have the food sent by our King.”  Guru ji saw the food and said to the minister:

Maaroo Mahalla 1

The tastes and desires are many.  They are poisonous but they are sweet.

Whoever the Parmeshwar blesses, they are saved by the desires of the senses.”

(Nanak Prakash Granth)

These tastes are useless.  The taste of the Naam is great.  It gives joy and peace.  The ones who are stuck in the tastes of wines and senses, they give pain.  The taste of the Naam gives peace.”  The minister heard this and was amazed.  He bowed and went back to his King.

The minister told the king what happened: “my King, the saint renounces good tastes.”  The Raja said: “then take the beautiful women to the saint.”  The minister took the prostitutes, whom Kamadeva is embarrassed by, seeing their beauty.

When the women came close to Guru ji, they danced and made sexual gestures.  The minister said: “Sant ji, they are a gift from my Raja.  The Raja has sent them to give joy to your mind.”  The Glorious One then spoke:

“these prostitutes are vines of poison coated with sugar.  Many people are beautiful but meeting with these women, one goes to hell.  The body is a vessel of bad smells and vices.  The one who loves these women and touches them, their life becomes damned; when they die, the Jumms take them to Hell.”

(Nanak Prakash Granth)

The minister was happy and bowed.  He went to the Raja and told him everything: “he is without fault.  He sees faults in the women.  He didn’t wish to even touch the women.”  The Raja said to Parshuram: “go to him again and take beautiful jewellery and beautiful clothes.  This may make him greedy.”  The minister took clothes and jewellery.

The minister came close to the complete Guru and placed the beautiful clothes and jewellery in front of him.  He said: “please take these gifts from our king.”  Guru ji saw the clothes and jewellery and said:

“The body and clothes are garbage.  Don’t look at them and forget the Parmeshwar.

Gold, silver and wealth, these are the roots of Hell.”

(Nanak Prakash Granth)

The body and clothes are false.  People get stuck into them and forget themselves.  They are of no use to me.  Give them back to your Raja.”  The minister went back to his King and said: “the saint is the greatest.  He is calm and great.  He didn’t take anything you sent.  You should come and do his Darshan.  Go test Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji yourself.”  The Raja heard the wise minister and got ready to go see Guru ji.

The Raja took a crowd of people with him.  He was eager to see the Satguru.  He came to the garden and stood in front of Guru ji.  He bowed to Guru ji’s feet.  He had Guru ji’s Darshan and was in bliss.  It was as though the ocean seeing the full moon with joy.  He stood in front of Guru ji with his hands folded.  Guru Nanak Dev ji said:

“listen Raja Shivnaab, you are wise.  You have faith.  Nanak removes your curtain of ego and doubt.  Become the servant of servants.”

(Nanak Prakash Granth)

Hearing Guru ji’s words, the Raja was sure that it was Guru ji himself.  He was really happy.  He still thought about testing Guru ji for one more night.  He then wanted to walk on the path of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  He then went to his home.

Guru ji stayed in the garden.  The Raja had a beautiful bed sent for Guru ji.  Servants were sent for Guru ji’s Seva.  At night, the Padmani women were sent, who were the most beautiful women in nature.  The Raja instructed the Padmani women: “take your prettiest friends and go to the saint in the garden.  Tempt him.”  The women dressed up with jewellery and soorma in the eyes.  They all came to the garden quickly.  They were very beautiful.  Their skin was like gold.  They walked like elephants.  Their hair was black.  It was as though they were the daughters of Kamadeva.  Their breasts were firm and their eyes were beautiful.  Their waists were slim.  Their voices were melodious.  Some were 14 years old and some were 16.  When they walked, their golden jewellery clanked.  It was as though Kamadeva’s Nagara was sounding.  Their sight was sharp like an arrow.  Their eyebrows were curved like a bow.  It was as though Kamadeva set up this drama himself to tempt Guru ji.  The Raja was just an excuse.  Where Guru ji sat, the women came and sat there.  Ratti was embarrassed by the beauty of the women.  The women massaged Guru ji’s feet and smiled slightly as they held his feet.  The feet were the Givers of Mukti.  The women wanted desire to arise in Guru ji’s heart.  They gave enticing looks to Guru ji and spoke softly, as though Kamadeva’s Veena was playing.  Any other Devata or Munni would have been persuaded by this.  The chief Padmani woman said: “listen Saint ji, you are complete.  We came to do your Darshan.  Let go of your doubts and look towards us.  The traits of a Padmani woman, I have all of them.  My chest is firm.  Touch it with your hands.  My lips are sweet like Amrit.  Taste them.  Kiss them.  I am beautiful.  Embrace me and do as you please.  My body will be fulfilled, when you have love in your heart and meet me.  Oh Compassionate One, embrace me and make me happy.”  When the Padmani woman spoke, the deep Guru said: “do the Simran of Satnam, which gives peace.  Make this birth of yours a success.  Don’t waste your life in the pleasures and desires of the senses.  Remember the Hari and you will be free.  You will have Mukti.”  The head woman said: “experience us.  Love us.  You fulfill everyone’s wishes.  Complete ours too.”  Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji heard them and said words which gave peace from desires: “

Sri Mukhvaak.. Aasa Ghar 6 Mahalla 1..

If the mind is jewellery like pearls, wind (breath from Simran) is the string..

Forgiveness be the dressing up of the Bhuddi on the body, the sweet one experiences the Parmeshwar..1..

Oh my love, I am fascinated by your many glories..  Your glories are not found anywhere else..1..Rahao..

If the bride wears the garland of Har Har around the neck, Damodhar is the toothbrush..

Karta Karta is the bracelet, in this way the mind is still.2..

Madhusudhana is the ring, Parmeshwar are the silk clothes..

Patience are the braids, Sri is the soorma..3..

(SGGS 359)

After saying this Shabad, Guru ji, the Master of the world said another Ashtpadi in Raag Basant.

Basant Mahalla 1..

The world is a crow; it does not remember the Naam, the Name of the Lord. Forgetting the Naam, it sees the bait, and pecks at it.  The mind wavers unsteadily, in guilt and deceit.  I have shattered my attachment to the false world. ||1||

The burden of sexual desire, anger and corruption is unbearable.  Without the Naam, how can the mortal maintain a virtuous lifestyle? ||1||Rahao||

The world is like a house of sand, built on a whirlpool; it is like a bubble formed by drops of rain.  It is formed from a mere drop, when the Lord’s wheel turns around.  The lights of all souls are the servants of the Lord’s Name. ||2||

My Supreme Guru has created everything.  I perform devotional worship service to You, and fall at Your Feet, O Lord.  Imbued with Your Name, I long to be Yours.  Those who do not let the Naam manifest within themselves, they depart like thieves in the end. ||3||

They lose their honor, gathering sin and corruption.  But imbued with the Lord’s Name, you shall go to your true home with honor.  Prabhoo does whatever He wills.  One who abides in the Fear of Prabhoo, becomes fearless, O my mother. ||4||

The woman desires beauty and pleasure.  But betel leaves, garlands of flowers and sweet tastes lead only to disease.  The more she plays and enjoys, the more she suffers in sorrow.  But when she enters into the Sanctuary of Prabhoo, whatever she wishes comes to be. ||5||

She wears beautiful clothes with all sorts of decorations.  But the flowers turn to dust, and her beauty leads her into evil.  Hope and desire have blocked the doorway.  Without the Naam, one’s hearth and home are deserted. ||6||

O princess, my daughter, run away from this place!  Chant the True Name, and embellish your days.  Serve your Beloved Lord God, and lean on the Support of His Love.  Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, abandon your thirst for corruption and poison. ||7||

Mohan has fascinated my mind.  Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, I have realized You, Lord.  Nanak stands longingly at Prabhoo’s Door.  I am content and satisfied with Your Name; please shower me with Your Mercy. ||8||1||

(SGGS 1187)

Hearing the sweet words of Sri Guru ji, the words that had the glory of Naam, it was the pearl necklace of Mukti came around their necks.  The women put Mala on and became calm.  They became attached with the Simran.  It was as though a pauper begging for coins, received a diamond, all of a sudden; that is how the women couldn’t describe their bliss.  The fire of their vices and desires was extinguished.  They all did the Seva of Guru ji all night long.  The women were all blessed.  They were given Mukti.

In the morning, the women came back to the Raja in the palace.  The Raja saw the women and said: “tell me, the saint that came, how did you find him?  Did you entice him with your advances?  Did you succeed?”  The head woman, the Padmani, she said: “listen Raja, the Fakirs that had come before him, they would see our forms and fall weak to our lustful gestures.  I tried to tempt him in many ways, which would arouse the greatest of Munnis and Tapasvis, swaying them from their paths.  This saint was not even a little bit affected.  He remained still like the golden Sumer Mountain.  He blessed us with his vision.  He gave us the taste of the Simran of Hari.  Our mind is drenched in that now.  He is the Complete Being.  He is compassionate.  Doing his Darshan is a blessing.  You lose your senses with him.  Our good karma has come to fruition in this birth.  We got to serve the Purshotam, the great being.  He gave us wisdom all night long.  He blessed us.  Listen Raja: vices and pleasures are poisonous.  We don’t like this dirt anymore like a really bad smell.  Our minds are calm in every way.  Hearing his words, our heart is cool and serene.  He took us out of Hell and took us to Heaven.  This is how we saw the saint.”  The Raja was really happy.  He thought to himself: “this is definitely Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji.  In Kaliyuga, chastity and truth have all been robbed from all humans.  Other than Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji, there is no one so complete.”  He thought of this and set off right away.

The Raja walked barefoot and had love in his heart.  He went to the garden where Guru ji was.  Guru ji was sitting under a tree.  Guru ji had his back towards the Raja.  He turned his head the other way.  He didn’t pay any attention to the Raja.  The Raja bowed down on the floor, lying like a staff.  The Raja’s faith got deeper when Guru ji turned his back towards him.  He was happy that Guru ji didn’t give him special treatment because he was a rich king.  The Raja bowed and stood up.  His devotion was solid.  He didn’t doubt Guru ji.  Guru ji didn’t say anything.  He said nothing to the King.  The Raja stood there for 7 and a half hours.  The Raja did not waiver.  He stood there.  Guru ji spoke after 7.5 hours: “Raja, are you well?  Tell me what is your wish.  You have been standing with determination.  You waited for me to speak.”  The Raja thought to himself: “from the clan of Bedi Kshatriyas, Guru Nanak Dev ji, the beautiful, what Bhai Mansukh had said, that is definitely him.”  The Raja said: “listen oh Compassionate saint, tell me your name and caste.  Tell me with your compassion.  I will then tell you my wishes.  I want to know who you are.”  Sri Guru ji, the Master of the Universe spoke from his mouth:

Sri Mukhvaak.. Maaroo Mahalla 1..

The Yogi who is joined to the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is pure; he is not stained by even a particle of dirt.

The True Lord, his Beloved, is always with him; the rounds of birth and death are ended for him. ||1||

O Lord of the Universe, what is Your Name, and what is it like?

If You summon me into the Mansion of Your Presence, I will ask You, how I can become one with You. ||1||Pause||

The Raja didn’t understand.  He said: “are you a Jogi?”  Guru ji continued:

The Yogi who is joined to the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is pure; he is not stained by even a particle of dirt.

The True Lord, his Beloved, is always with him; the rounds of birth and death are ended for him. ||1||

The Raja spoke again as he did not understand: “if you are a Brahmin, be compassionate and tell me.”  Guru ji continued:

He alone is a Brahmin, who takes his cleansing bath in the spiritual wisdom of God, and whose leaf-offerings in worship are the Glorious Praises of the Lord.

The One Name, the One Narayan, and His One Light pervade the three worlds. ||2||

The Raja heard such beautiful words and said: “are you a Kshatriya?”  the Lotus-eyed One spoke”

My tongue is the balance of the scale, and this heart of mine is the pan of the scale; I weigh the immeasurable Naam.

There is one store, and one banker above all; the merchants deal in the one commodity. ||3||

The Raja still wasn’t sure.  He was anxious and confused.  Guru ji wouldn’t specify his caste to him nor tell him his name.  The Raja said: “there are many saints and wise people who are householders.  There are Sanyasis as well.  Who are you?  Which are you, tell me Sant ji, what your ideology is.”  Guru ji said:

The True Guru saves us at both ends; he alone understands, who is lovingly focused on the One Lord; his inner being remains free of doubt.

The Word of the Shabad abides within, and doubt is ended, for those who constantly serve, day and night. ||4||

The Raja thought about this deeply.  He spoke after a half an hour: “if you are Gorakh, then tell me.”  Satguru ji said:

Above is the sky (Dasam Duar) and beyond this sky is Gorakh- the keeper of the world, the Protector of the World; the Inaccessible Guru abides there.

By the Guru’s Teachings, what is outside becomes the same as what is inside the home of the self. Nanak has become an Udaasi, a detached renunciate. ||5||11||

(SGGS 992)

When the Raja heard the Bani, which gave joy, he heard “I am Nanak, an Udaasi,” the Raja was now sure that it was in fact Guru Nanak Dev ji.  He did not have any doubts then.  Love over-flowed in his heart.  His throat swelled with emotion.  He praised Guru ji: “my life is fortunate.  My good karma has come to fruition so I have received your Darshan.  Oh Master of the Universe, you know what is in my heart.  You know who I am.  I am a small person who could not recognize you.  I am unwise.  My tongue does not have the strength to say your praises.”  The Raja did 3 Parkarmas of Guru ji and bowed to his feet.  He said: “Guru ji, see me as your servant in every way.  Come to my home and make it pure.”  Guru ji said: “first make a Dharamsala.  You can take me to your home after.”  The Raja heard this and went home.  He started to construct a Dharmsala.

1-48 Wisdom for Shivnaab/ Yog

The meditation of Sri Guru ji is like the sun.  It makes the Lotus-like heart blossom.  My wisdom is blossomed and so I write this beautiful Katha of the Giver of Peace.

Sri Baba Sandhur Vaach..

Many people were called by the Raja.  He started the construction of the Dharmsala, right away.  Musk, sandalwood, agar and Kapoor were grinded and pasted on the walls.  Beautiful doors were made.  Many types of rugs were laid out.  Rose essence was sprinkled everywhere.  The fragrance was great everywhere.  A beautiful bed was laid down in the middle with expensive sheets laid out on top.  The Dharmsala was ready, soon enough.  The Raja had love in his heart.  He walked towards Guru ji.  When the Raja came to the garden, he didn’t see Guru ji there.  Guru ji wanted to test the love of the Raja.  Guru ji had disappeared before the Raja came.  When the Raja couldn’t find Guru ji, he became anxious.  He fainted on the ground.  He lost the senses of his body.  His body got dirty with dirt.  His servants picked up him and fanned him to bring him back to consciousness.  The Raja soon regained awareness.  He spoke with a deep sorrow: “where did you go Guru Nanak Dev ji?  Doing your Darshan makes the 3 illnesses go away.  I had been waiting for you for a long time.  I had finally met you and experienced joy.  I must have bad karma because you disappeared.”  The Raja said this and ran towards the jungle, anxiously.  Love had made him crazy.  He was in pain and yelled: “oh Master of my Life, come and meet me again.”  He ran around frantically.  He asked the birds and the trees if they had seen Guru ji.  He asked the bees, lakes and shores: “did you all see the Mine of Virtues?”  He was anxious and spoke to everything in the jungle.  He couldn’t find Guru ji anywhere.  He had sweat all over his body.  He had tears in his eyes.  His clothes were wet.  He fainted again.

Guru Nanak Dev ji, the Master of the Universe, reappeared to him.  The Raja’s servants fanned him and wiped his face.  He came back to his senses after drinking water.  He saw Guru ji standing in front of him.  He grabbed the feet of Guru ji with eagerness.  His throat swelled with emotion.  He spoke: “I have constructed the Dharmsala, Master!  Where did you go, oh Omniscient One?  Come with me and make my city pure.  Come and sit in my beautiful home.”  Guru ji heard the Raja’s requests.  The Giver of Mukti walked with the Raja.

Within the Dharmsala, there was a bed laid out.  Guru Nanak Dev ji was seated on the bed.  The Raja was happy and held a celebration in the city.  Everyone was eager to do the Darshan of Guru ji.  They all came, bringing many gifts.  They folded their hands and bowed to Guru ji’s feet.  They took white flowers in their palms and showered Guru ji with them.  They sprinkled sandalwood and lit incense.  Many celebrations took place.  The praise spread throughout the land.  Rani Chandkala, came with the Raja.  They were eager to see Guru ji.  They did 16 types of Poojas of Guru ji (Chaur, bowing, Parkarma etc.).  Taking a golden plate in his hand, the Raja lit four wick Divas.  The Raja did the Aarti of Guru ji with his own hands.  The whole Dharmsala was filled with sounds of “Jai Jai!”  the Raja was humble and made pleas to Guru ji: “Prabhoo, I am without guidance.  Make me yours.  Give me your wisdom by which the doubts of the world are destroyed.  Give wisdom to my whole country.  Your words have the four gifts (Dharma, Arth, Kaam and Moksha).”  Guru ji heard this and understood his Dharma of relieving the pain of his servants.  He said: “make your mind still and pure.  This is the way to destroy all of the pains.  There are two ways to stop the mind.  The Vedas and the saints say this.  Do what is easier for you.  Think about it and take one path.”  Raja Shivnaab folded his hands and bowed his head to Guru ji’s feet.  He said: “the two ways you speak about, tell them to me in detail.”

Guru Nanak Dev ji said: “the two ways, I will tell you in detail.  The two ways are “Kasht Yog” (also known as Hatha Yog) and “Bhagti Yog.”  These two make the body pure along with the mind.  I will tell you about Kasht (Hatha) Yog first.  It has 8 Angs (Asht Ang), listen to these:  1. Yam 2. Nem 3. Ekaant 4. Asana 5. Prana Yam 6. Dhyana 7. Dhaarna 8. Samadhi.  The one who practices these can obtain the highest Param Padh status.

Yam has 10 types.  I will tell you their signs.  The first is Ahinsa – non-violence with the Munn, words and body.  To think bad of others is the Hinsa of the mind (Munn).  To speak harsh words is the Hinsa of the words.  The third is to kill someone.  Denounce these without delay.  The second is “Sach.”  Speak the truth.  Never lie.  The third is theft of two kinds: of the body and of the mind.  To steal someone else’s things is of the body.  To do a sin and to hide it, this is of the mind.  This is the third type of Yam.  Don’t forget these, oh Raja.  The fourth is Brahmacharj which gives peace.  Win the 8 types of Kaam: 1. Talking about women 2. Listening about the beauty of women 3. Meeting with women alone 4. Touching body parts 5. Looking at women with pleasure 6. Embracing 7. Thinking about women 8. Having sex.  Whoever lets all of these go, that is the following of the Brahmacharj.  The fifth is Dheeraj – patience.  Pain and joy should be tolerated like the earth.  Pain, joy, wealth, heat and cold; one should not be anxious in any situation.  The sixth is Forgiveness.  Tolerate everything.  If someone says good or bad, tolerate it with patience.  The seventh is to never see anyone in pain.  Have compassion on all.  The eighth is to keep a soft heart.  Give wisdom to all with love.  The nineth Yam is to eat food in the Maryada.  Think of good and bad.  The food that comes, eat one fourth less than required.  The tenth Yam is to keep “Soch” – purity.  Wash your hands with dirt and water.  The dirt of attachment and hatred in the mind, let it go and make your mind pure.  There are the 10 Yams.

Listen to the 10 Nems with focus.  The first is Tapp.  It is of 3 types 1. Rajsi 2. Tamsi 3 Shantki.  To keep oneself hungry, to give heat to the body in summer, to bathe in cold water in winter; this is the Tamsi Tapp.  (Vaak Sidhi is achieved with this) Gyaan does not come into the heart though.  If one does this, they are rewarded with Vaak Sidhi.  Rajsi Tapp is to stop the mind from doing bad deeds and doing Seva.  The Shantki Tapp is to make the mind still.  The second Nem is Santokh – contentment.  There are 2 types: when you can’t gain a certain item, and say you don’t need it, there is no joy in the heart.  The person wishes for praise.  The second type is to accept what comes to you.  The Jogi that does this, there is no fault in this.  They are not affected in any way.  If they get something, they are happy with what they got.  They are happy with the will of Vahiguru.  This gives them joy.  The third is Aasthik Bhuddi.  One should have faith on the Guru’s words.  The fourth is Dhaan – donation.  There are three ways: Tamsi, Rajsi and Satki.  Giving donation with anger or speaking harshly; giving donation with conflict; speaking with anger while giving donation; giving donation on inauspicious days; this is the Tamsi Dhaan.  To donate for self-praise; this is Rajsi Dhaan.  There is little reward in this.  To donate while seeing a deserving person (saint, poor, needy); giving with respect and request; this is the Shantki Dhaan.  To see Vahiguru as the ultimate giver, not to see anything as yours, there is a lot of reward in this.  The donation of money or Vidya (knowledge); giving the Shantki Dhaan with humility, the reward is not measurable.  The saints and Vedas all say this.  The fifth is to do Pooja with your heart.  Keep faith in the Guru.  The Pooja will be a success then.  Their wisdom is drenched in love and devotion.  The sixth Nem is to abide by the Guru’s Shabad.  To read those Shabads and listen to them; pondering on them; words that are against the Guru’s ideology, do not listen to them nor read them.  The seventh is to read and listen with “Riti” – tradition.  Love the tradition and teach it in the same way.  Do as you preach.  Earn the Shabad of the Guru without hypocrisy.  Make your body and mind pure by doing this.  The eighth is to keep the mind Satoguni.  Walk with humility.  Speak sweetly.  The ninth Nem is, the Paath (recitation) that you do, don’t speak any other words while reciting the Bani.  The tenth is the Agni Home (Yagna).  To make the Devatas happy for your wish fulfillment.  One should feed hungry Sikhs.  This the Brahm Home, which is successful.  This is the Langar.  Say “Vahiguru” before eating the food.  Angi Dev is the mouth of all the Devatas.  All of the Devatas receive what is put into the fire.  The Brahm is happy when the food is burnt in the belly of the person who says the Naam.  They become pure in this way.  The third Home (Yagna) is of the Gyaan.  The tastes of the Indrees (senses); the Gyaan fire destroys the ego of the body (hamta, mamta= me and mine).  These are the 10 Nems.  This is the second Ang of Kasht Yog.

The third ang is Ekaant Desh.  Living in the place where no other human’s sound can be heard.

The fourth ang is Yog Asanas.  The Vedas and Jogeshwars speak about this.  The Jeevs in the world, as many as Jeevs there are, that’s how many Asanas there are.  (Out of 84 Lakh Jeevs, 84 are considered Mukh.  From those are taken 16 and then 4 and then 2) the 2 supreme Asanas are considered the Sidh Asana and Padam Asana.  The great beings have chosen them.  Listen to their characteristics: dig a hole in the ground and fill it with soft grass.  Lay a white cloth on top and sit on it.  Take a bath and don’t move while sitting.  Take your left foot and press it onto the anus.  Take the right foot and place it on top of the Ling.  Focus your attention on your front nostrils or on the tip of your nose.  This is the Sidh Asana.  Wise Yogis do this.  Padam Asana – put your left foot on your right thigh and your right foot on your left thigh; the two arms should be behind the back; hold the toes; concentrate on the middle of your eyebrows and sit down.  This is the Padam Asana.

The fifth and is Prana Yam.  They have 3 types: Poorak, Kumbhak and Rechak.  Poorak – take your focus away from the world.  From your right nostril, take the Puraans up towards the Dasam Duaar and say Oankaar 12 times.  As long as the Puraans stay inside that is Kumbhak.  Say Oankaar 24 times.  Rechak – take your breath out from the left nostril and say Oankaar 12 times.  To take the breath up and down, slowly, do it in reverse for the other nostril as well.  If you start with the right nostril, say it with the left next time.  This will open up the Trikuti path (between the eyebrows).  When the Puraans begin to stay in the Dasam Duaar, then the Anaahad Dhun begins to open.  The Anaahad sounds ring and the Param Jot can be seen.  The great radiance can be seen moving there.  The bliss is there.  As the focus increases in the Param Jot, the sound increases.  The sound gives immense bliss.

The sixth ang is Dhyaan.  This gives peace.  There are two types of Dhyaans: Bahya – outward and Antreek – inward.  To do the Dhyaan in Vishnu Chaturbhuj, this is the Bahya Dhyaan.  To focus on the Guru’s Shabad, to focus on the belly button, heart, nose and the middle of the eyebrows; to focus on the ground or the Dasam Duaar, the Anaahad Dhunni opens up.  Then focus on the Param Jot.  This is the Antreek Dhyaan.

The seventh ang is Dhaarna.  While focusing, the mind wanders which becomes an obstacle.  To repeatedly control the mind and take it to the Shabad, to make the mind still in Dhyaan, this is Dhaarna.

When the mind becomes still, that is called the Samadhi.  The mind does not wander.  There are two types: Nirvakalap and Sakalap.  To see the Dhyata (focuser), Dyaan (focus) and Dhay (item to be focused upon) as separate, that is the Sa Vikalap Samadhi, as said by Jogis and wise beings.  To see the Dhyata, Dyaan and Dhay as the same, to see only the Brahm; this is called the Nirvakalap Samadhi.  This is the eight ang.  Practice this with determination.  The consciousness should be focused in this Yog; this will give joy while practicing this.  When the focus stops from the Dasam Duar, one takes guidance from the Guru’s word.  Many have been blessed by this way.  The attachments have been broken in this way.  They broke their bonds.

The second way is the “Bhagti Yog.”  The Granths describe 8 Angs for these as well.  The first is Yam – keep the mind humble, even though one being filled with many skills.  See yourself as lower than others.  Don’t be egotistical/proud of your accomplishments and skills.  The second is “Nem” – going to the Satsangat.  Listen to Katha and Keertan in Sangat.  Focus on it.  If you are literate, read Bani with love.  If you can listen, listen to Gurbani with focus.  The third ang, Ekaant Desh – see the Gobind everywhere.  Don’t identify anyone or anything as different from the Gobind.  See the animals and insects as Gobind.  See other humans as Gobind.  There is no other so don’t see duality.  There is only One Gobind in every heart.  Understand the fourth ang as “Asana.”  Keep focused on the Gobind.  The focus is the Asana.  The fifth is Prana Yam.  Poorak, Kumbhak, Rechak; 3 types.  Poorak – listen to the words of the Guru and make them dwell into the heart.  Be eager to listen to more.  Listen to the words and understand them.  Kumbhak – Engrain the Guru’s words in your heart.  Practice this everyday, forever.  Keep it in your heart.  Rechak – recite the words of the Satguru.  Let go of what the Satguru tells you to.  Let go of your desires and vices.  This will give you peace.  The sixth is Dhyaan.  Read, listen and recite the words of the Guru.  Keep your focus in the meanings of the Shabad.  Don’t think of any other thing.  Don’t let the mind wander.  The seventh is Dharana.  I will tell you of the form; if the mind wanders, control it and focus on the Shabad of the Guru.  When the mind is still for an hour or two, that is the Samadhi, the eighth ang.  When the Samadhi occurs within the Shabad, then practice this more and make it grow.  When the mind is focused in the Shabad for 24 hours, then the Samadhi is complete in the best way.

This the Bhagti Jog.  In Kaliyuga, it is the easier way.  The Kasht Jog is difficult and can’t be done by everyone.”  Hearing the wisdom from Sri Guru ji, the Raja folded his hands and bowed his head.  He said: “I wish to learn the way of Yog.  It is a deep desire of my heart.”

1-49 Triya Raaj

The beauty of Guru ji’s toenails is like the Chintamani.  The one who wishes from this, their wishes are fulfilled.  Their pain, obstacles and sins are washed away.

Sri Bala Sandhur Vaach..

Raja Shivnaab heard Guru ji’s wisdom.  He folded his hands and said: “the paths to purifying the mind, oh Destroyer of Pain, Giver of Joy, give me both.  Bless my whole country.  There is no other more compassionate than you.  Live in my home forever.  I will be happy seeing your Lotus-like face.  You travelled many Kos to give me faith.  Please live here now.  Give wisdom to my whole country.”  Guru ji heard the love-filled words of the Raja and gave him his Charan Pahul.  Guru ji lived in the Dharamsala.  The whole country became Guru ji’s Sikhs.  The Raja was given the wisdom.  The Granth was called “Praan Sangli,” which had 113 Adhyaays.  Reading it, one would understand the power of Yog.  Guru ji gave that Granth to the Raja and said: “when my Sikh comes to your land, they will ask you for this Granth.  Give it to them.”

Guru ji lived there for a while. The whole country was blessed.  Bhagat Yog and Hatha Yog, the Raja was taught these well.  Sikhi spread in the country.  Everyone did the Simran of Sri Satguru ji.  Shivnaab’s radiance grew.  He attached his enemies and won them all (internally and externally).  The Raja did Langar in the Dharamsala.  He did the Langar on Guru ji’s name.  21 Maunds of salt was used in the Langar.  There was so much Langar which everyone ate.  10,000 people ate every day.  Keertan and Simran of Satnam happened every day.  The sins of people were washed away.  The Master of the Universe wanted to leave every day but the Raja would insist on keeping Guru ji and stop him from going.  The love kept Guru ji tied up there.  The traditions of Sikhi were practiced well.  The love of doing Keertan and Simran grew in the hearts of the people.  The Raja was solid in his Gyaan.  He was a full Brahmgyaani.  Guru ji was compassionate.  The Raja was given a Manjhi and made into a Masand.  The Raja was worshiped by his people.

Guru ji got ready to leave.  The Raja did not want to separate.  The Lotus Mouth One said: “listen Raja you are wise: you are complete.  You have Bibek and the Gyaan of Jeev and Ishwar.  I need to do many tasks.  Keep your Dhyaan in me.  I will always be by your side.”  The Raja’s throat swelled with emotion.  Guru ji gave him hope and set off on his travels.  The Raja was worshipped after Guru ji left.  His subjects worshiped him.  Their wishes were fulfilled by the Raja.  They all did Satsangat with the Raja with joy.

Guru ji travelled on to other lands.  He went to a land ruled by a woman.  Guru Angad Dev ji, Bhai Mardana ji and I followed Guru ji.  Guru ji went to destroy hypocrisy and fraud.  He made people do Simran of the Naam.  That was his only mission.  There was no other reason.  This world was a deep ocean of fire.  Guru ji constructed the bridge of the praises of Hari for people to cross by.  The land where we came to was big.  It was the Triya Desh.  The Giver of Mukti went there.  Guru ji saw the streets and went to the Mandi (market).  There were many shops there, selling different things.  Bhai Mardana ji saw them and said: “Guru ji, please give me permission so I can look for water.  I am thirsty.  My mouth is dry.  You can walk slowly and I will catch up to you.”  The Destroyer of Pain gave him permission to go.

Bhai Mardana ji went to a home and said at their door: “I need water.”  There was one woman in the home who shouted: “come inside and drink water.  Where do you live and where will you go from here?  Oh wise one, tell me what your name is?  I have never seen anyone who looks like you before.”  The woman spoke with respect.  Bhai Mardana ji entered the home and sat on a bed with joy.  He said: “my land is Punjab which is really far from here.  My name is Mardana.  We came to see different lands.  There is no other task for us to come here.”  The woman knew magic.  She made a tantara and tied it around Bhai Mardana ji’s neck.  He became a lamb, right away.  He became ugly and couldn’t speak anymore.  The woman was clever.  She quickly took a rope and tied Bhai Mardana ji to a peg.  The woman went outside the home with a clay pot on her head.  She went to a well to get water.  There was nothing Bhai Mardana ji could do.  He was under a spell, turned into a lamb.  Listen Guru Angad Dev ji, the Master of the Universe was sitting outside of the city.  He stayed there for about an hour.  The Omniscient One sensed what had happened.  Guru ji then said: “Mardana has not returned.  Where did he get stuck?  He must be in the same situation as before.  This whole city is filled with weak people.  They are all without a Guru.  There are many women here who do not follow chastity.  Mardana would play the Rabab in Raags.  He would make me happy.  Somebody has tied him up.  We should go and find out what happened.”  Guru ji could not see anyone’s pain.  Guru ji went to the street with the house with the woman.

The same woman that put a spell on Bhai Mardana ji was met by Guru ji.  Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji saw the woman and said: “one of my companions has come this way.  He didn’t return to us.  I don’t know what happened to him.  He didn’t have any other task.  He just came to drink water.”  The woman said: “nobody came here.  I didn’t see anybody here.  He may have gone somewhere else.  You can go on ahead in the city.  Maybe he’s hiding.”  When Bhai Mardana ji heard Guru Nanak Dev ji’s voice and began to speak like a lamb out loud.  There was nothing else he could do.  His voice reached Guru ji’s ears.  Guru ji said to the woman: “why do you not tell me about my companion?  You are lying.  My friend is with you.  I can hear him.  He is in your home.  He was thirsty.  He came to your home to drink water.”  The woman said: “if you don’t trust me, go inside and see for yourself.  Why would I hide your companion.  I’m telling you that he is not here but you don’t believe me.”  The clever woman was understood by Guru ji.  The woman was not chaste.  Guru ji said a Shabad and showed her his powers:

“You are the merchants of Kullar but ask for musk as a tip..

Without good deeds, Nanak, how can you meet the Master..1..”

(Sri Nanak Prakash Granth)

The pot that the woman was carrying on her head, got stuck to her head.  She got tired of trying to take it off.  Bhai Mardana ji kept making noise.  Guru ji said: “say “Vahiguru!”  As soon as Guru ji said that, the thread from Bhai Mardana ji’s neck broke.  He became a human again.  He picked up his Rabab on his shoulder and came to Guru ji.  He was embarrassed as he came in front of Guru ji.  The clay pot was still stuck to the woman’s head.  The people of the city were amazed to see this.  They tried to take the pot off but they failed.  Just as a rock does not break with the drops of water, that is how it was.  Other women used many spells but nothing worked.  The pot was like a mountain, unaffected by arrows.  The pot wouldn’t break.  Everyone gave up.

Noor Shah was the leader of the land.  Somebody told her of the incident: “a strong Fakir has come to our land.  He attached a pot to a woman’s head.  Everyone saw this.  No Mantar, Jantar or Tanta is working.  We tried everything but the pot did not move.  As a lion is unaffected by jackals; an ant can’t break a mountain; that is how our efforts are in front of the Fakir.”  When Noor Shah heard this, she got angry.  The women standing next to her, who were smart in the dark arts, they were all sent to the woman.  They proudly came to the woman.  One played a dhol; one ran on the wall; one spewed fire from her mouth; one flew on a tree and another flew on a rug of deer skin.  One came proud with her knowledge of Mantras.  They came to the woman with the pot and read all their Mantras.  The pot did not move by any of them.  They were all amazed.

The women came back to Noor Shah and told her what had happened: “we tried everything but lost.  Our strength did not work on the pot.”  The leader heard this and got angry.  She gave hope to all and started to write Mantras and prepared Jantras.  She came herself and said: “I want to see this Fakir.  How strong is he?  I will see to him and win him.”  She came and recited many Mantras.  She tried many Jantras and touched them to the pot.  She played the dholki and tied strings to the woman’s neck.  She made spells which would shake the Sumer Mountain but did nothing to the pot.  All of the efforts tried by everyone, which were like fire; the pot was like water though.  Nothing worked.  Not one try worked.  They all gave up.  The woman with the pot was in pain.  The pot on her head made her anxious.  She kept yelling out in pain: “oh Master of the World, what did you do to me?”  She was in pain and knew the glory of the Guru now.  She newly figured out Guru ji’s power.  She told the Leader about the mistake she had done.  She said to the Leader: “go quickly to the complete saint.  The dirt on his feet is great.  I am a sacrifice to that dirt.  I disrespected the complete saint.  Convince him so my pain goes away.”  Noor Shah, along with her companions and the woman with the pot all came to where Sri Guru ji, the Lotus Feet One, was sitting.  The Cloud of Bliss, the women all bowed to him.  Noor Shah sat near Guru ji.  The Giver of Mukti said a Shabad in Raag Soohi:

Sri Mukhvaak.. Soohi Mahala 1.. Kuchaji.. (the Ungraceful Bride)

Ik Oankaar Satgur Prasaad..

I am ungraceful and ill-mannered, full of endless faults. How can I go to enjoy my Husband Lord?

Each of His soul-brides is better than the rest – who even knows my name?

Those brides who enjoy their Husband Lord are very blessed, resting in the shade of the mango tree.

I do not have their virtue – who can I blame for this?

Which of Your Virtues, O Lord, should I speak of? Which of Your Names should I chant?

I cannot even reach one of Your Virtues. I am forever a sacrifice to You.

Gold, silver, pearls and rubies are pleasing.

My Husband Lord has blessed me with these things, and I have focused my thoughts on them.

Palaces of brick and mud are built and decorated with stones;

I have been fooled by these decorations, and I do not sit near my Husband Lord.

The cranes shriek overhead in the sky, and the herons have come to rest.

The bride has gone to her father-in-law’s house; in the world hereafter, what face will she show?

She kept sleeping as the day dawned; she forgot all about her journey.

She separated herself from her Husband Lord, and now she suffers in pain.

Virtue is in You, O Lord; I am totally without virtue. This is Nanak’s Ardaas:

You give all Your nights to the virtuous soul-brides. I know I am unworthy, but isn’t there a night for me as well? ||1||

(SGGS 762)

Noor Shah heard this and scratched her head.  She thought to herself: “he is a powerful Fakir.  He is saying his Mantras and trying to posses me.  He is fearless.  He is strong.  I won’t trust him.”  She recited her Mantras and tried her Jantras.  She tried Tantras but figured out that he was deep like the ocean.  There was nothing she could do.  She lost.  She then thought to herself: “he is the Peer of Peers.”  Just as the snake tries to overpower the Garuda and scare it; that is how Guru ji was.  Noor Shah tried to use her Mantras.  She tried to make gestures to put a spell on Guru ji.  She finally figured out that Guru ji was a complete saint.  She became humble and begin to beg: “I didn’t know your reality.  We ask for forgiveness.  This foolish woman made your companion into a lamb by her Mantras.  Please take the pot off her head.  She is humble now.  She is in pain.  We will never disrespect any saint that comes here again.  You are the greatest and fearless.  There is no one equal to you.  Nobody can give Mukti like you.”  Hearing the requests of the women, Sri Guru ji said: “say “Vahiguru,” and take the pot off.”  One woman got up and shook the pot.  As soon as she said the Name, the pot came off.  The women were amazed to see this.  They all got together and placed gifts at Guru ji’s feet.  They called for diamonds, pearls and clothes.  They said: “please forgive us and accept these gifts.  You are the Complete Being.”  Guru ji looked at them and said:

Sri Raag Ki Vaar Mahala 1..

We are good be our words but bad from our character..

Our minds are black but white from the outside..

We imitate those who serve the Lord by standing at his door..

They are attuned to the love of their husband master, and they experience the pleasure of his joy..

They remain powerless, even while they have power, they remain humble and meek.

Nanak says, our lives become a success if you meet us with them ..2..

These Shabads were that which destroyed the ego.  Guru ji recited the Suchaji and other Shabads.  Vairagya came into Noor Shah’s heart.  She became humble and said: “I regret my mistake.  Please forgive us.  You can roam this land with freedom.  We don’t know of your greatness.  We saw you as pain.  We know you now.  Bless us.  We bow to your feet, over and over again.  Accept these gifts.  Please take them and bless us.  Give us your Sikhi so your previous life is a success.”  When she said this to Guru ji, she was given Charan Pahul.  She was given the traditions of Sikhi.  She was given Mukti.  A Dharamsala was made in the land.  Guru ji gave her wisdom.  The praises of Parmeshwar were sung there.  Guru ji said: “when Sikhs and saints come into the land, do not recite Mantras on them.  Do their Seva.  Let go of your ego.  Say Vahiguru from your mouth and your pains will be gone.”  Guru ji gave joy like the Sun does.  Santokh Singh says this.  Guru ji stayed in Triya Raaj for some days and gave Dharma to the land.  Noor Shah was drenched in love.  She did the Simran of the Master of the Universe.

1-50 Bharthri/ Koda

The home of compassion, the cutter of the attachments and giver of mukti, the face of Sri Satguru ji is beautiful like the lotus.  I rely on the support of Guru ji’s feet.  I am in his sanctuary.  The touch and Darshan of his feet give peace and joy.

Sri Bala Sandhur Vaach..

The complete Guru travelled on ahead.  He gave Mukti to his servants.  Where the Ashram of Bharthri was radiating proudly, Guru ji, the one with the pure praise, went there.  The whole land followed Bharthri.  Triya Raaj and other lands followed him.  All the men and women worshipped him.  The Yogis were praised there.  The Light of the Bedis came close to the Ashram and sat down.  Bharthri was away.  When he came back, he saw the Lotus face of Guru ji.  He saw the great radiance of Guru ji.  He felt the form of the Parmeshwar.  He saw Guru ji’s radiant forehead and wide eyes.  It was as though the sun had appeared in the world to give Gyaan.  Bharthri came close and said to Guru ji: “where are you from and where are you headed?  Your form is unique.  Please tell me your name.”  Listen Guru Angad Dev ji, oh Mine of Virtues: I looked at Guru ji and spoke to the Jogi: “we are from Punjab which is far from here.  This is Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji, the Satguru who is benevolent.  We are his servants.  We serve him to be in bliss.  We stay with him by his compassion.  We have seen many lands.  He blesses the lands.  He travels the different lands to bless them.”  Bharthri heard this and was really happy.  He ran to Guru ji’s feet and bowed his head.  He said: “I am fortunate that you have come here to meet me.  I have been waiting for you for a very long time.  My wish has been fulfilled today.  I have received the fruits of my Sadhana today.  My Jog and Vairagya has been successful today.”  He said this and sat close to Guru ji.  The Deepak of the Bedis said: “how do you know me?  Why were you waiting for me?”  Bharthri heard this and said: “I will tell you everything truthfully.  There was a time when Naarad, the pure Munni, met me here.  He was very radiant.  He held a Veena and was always drenched in Bhagti.  He was omniscient, coloured in love, all the time.  When I saw him, I bowed to him.  He was compassionate and blessed me.  I praised him and wanted to ask him questions.  The Dev Rishi said: “whatever you wish to ask me, the Master of the Universe will come and answer all of your questions.  He will soon take an Avatar on earth.  His name will be Sri Nanak ji.  He will spread Bhagti of Prem in the world.  He will destroy hypocrisy in the different dimensions.  He will give the wisdom of Satnam, which is the easy way.  He is the Master of the whole world.  He will travel the world.  He will have discussion with the Sidhs.  He will first meet you in this place.  Stay here and be connected to the love of the Name.  Stay focused.  Ask him whatever is in your heart.  He will answer all your questions in a second.”  I have been waiting for you, ever since.  I stayed here, determined to see you.  Now I got your Darshan.  What the Munni said, that became true.”  Sri Guru ji heard Bharthri’s words and spoke with compassion: “whatever you wish to ask me, say it to me without delay.  You have been waiting for a long time.  Listen to your answers from me.”  Bharthri ji spoke: “listen oh Compassionate One, the Mine of Virtues: I have practiced the Hatha Yoga.  I stilled my mind in many ways from the vices.  I wanted to make my mind pure to achieve the highest status and destroy the pain of being born and dying again.  Till the mind remains dirty, the bonds cannot be broken.  The attachment cannot break.  Bhagti makes the mind pure, you say.  How is that done?  Please tell me.  Without Yog, this is impossible.  How can the mind be still without Hatha Yoga?  This is my doubt.  My second question, I speak to you.  Sidhs drink alcohol to become Mastanas.  They stay immersed in the Anaahad sound.  They stay unattached from the vices and desires.  They stay connected in the Parmeshwar.  How does Bhagti keep you connected to the colour of Hari?  How does Vairagya stay without alcohol?  Without Vairagya, how does love come?  These are my doubts.  When Naarad ji came, I asked him the same questions.  I ask you now.  Please answer them after thinking about them.”  Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji spoke: “listen Bharthri, you are very wise.  Without Bhagti, the mind cannot be pure.  This is the truth.  You say, the mind cannot be pure without Yog but Bhagti is the best way.  The wise people wish for Mukti.  I will tell you the characteristics of Yog:

Aasa Mahala 1..

Let the Word of the Guru’s Shabad be the ear-rings in your mind, and wear the patched coat of tolerance and forgiveness.

Whatever the Lord does, look upon that as good; thus you shall obtain the treasure of Sahij Yoga. ||1||

Baba, the soul which is united in union as a Yogi, remains united in the supreme essence throughout the ages.

One who has obtained the Amrit Naam, the Name of the Immaculate Lord – his body enjoys the pleasure of spiritual wisdom. ||1||Rahao||

In the City of Shiva (Dasam Duaar or Satsang), he sits in his Yogic posture, and he forsakes his desires and conflicts.

The sound of the singhi (horn) forever rings out its beautiful melody, and day and night, he is filled with the sound current of the Naad (sound). ||2||

My cup is reflective meditation, and Gyaan (spiritual wisdom) is my walking stick; to dwell in the present is the ashes I apply to my body.

The Praise of Hari is my tradition; and to live by the word of the Guru, detached from the world. ||3||

My Samya (support stick) is to see the Lord’s Light in all, although their forms and colors are so numerous.

Says Nanak, listen, O Bharthri Yogi: love only the Supreme Lord God.  Focus your attention in the One. ||4||3||37||

(SGGS 359)

If a person follows such a Yog in this world, the filth of their mind is then washed away.  The alcohol you speak about, listen carefully now:

Aasa Mahala 1..

Make Gyaan (spiritual wisdom) your Gurr (sugar cane sweet), and Dhyaan (focus) your scented flowers; let Bhagti be the herbs.

Let devotional faith be the distilling fire, and your love the ceramic cup.  Thus the sweet nectar of life is distilled. ||1||

O Baba, the mind is intoxicated with the Naam, drinking in its Nectar. It remains absorbed in the Lord’s Love.

Night and day, remaining attached to the Love of the Lord, the Anaahad (celestial music) of the Shabad resounds. ||1||Rahao||

The Perfect Lord naturally gives the cup of Truth, to the one upon whom He casts His Glance of Grace.

One who trades in this Amrit of Bhagti – how could he ever love the alcohol of the world? ||2||

The Teachings of the Guru, the Amrit Bani – drinking it, one becomes acceptable and renowned.

Unto the one who loves the Lord’s Court, and the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, of what use is Mukti of Vaikuntha? ||3||

Imbued with the Lord’s Praises, one is forever a Bairagi, a renunciate, and one’s life is not lost in the gamble of desire.

Says Nanak, listen, O Bharthri Yogi drink the intoxicating Amrit of the Lord. ||4||4||38||

(SGGS 360)

They are always drenched in the praise of Kartar.  They do the recitation of the Name.  They have broken the bonds of the vices.  They are intoxicated in the love of Sri Prabhoo ji.  In this way, the bonds of the world, attachments, have been broken.”  Bharthri’s doubts were all destroyed.  He understood the glory of Bhagti and was filled with bliss.  He folded his hands and bowed.  His mind was drenched in love.  He had discussions with Guru ji in a good way.  He asked questions and Guru ji gave him the answers.  Guru ji then set off from there.

Bhai Mardana ji and I were behind Guru ji.  We joked around.  We laughed and said pleasant things as we travelled.  We travelled many Kos.  Satguru ji, the sustainer of all, sat down and thought to himself: “I need to put Mardana in doubt.”  Bhai Mardana ji said: “I need to go back.  I want to go back home.  I am depressed.  Please give me permission.  I don’t want to go on any further.  I seek your permission to go back.”  Sri Guru ji said: “don’t go now.  There are many problems on the way.  If you go now, something will capture you and eat you.  Stay with me and be in joy.  Why have you made your mind depressed?  Why do you find it painful to stay with me?  Stay with me and travel the world.  Stay with joy.”  Guru ji gave him hope and said many things.  Bhai Mardana ji was not convinced.  He wanted to see his family.  He wanted to go home.  Sri Guru ji said to me: “see if you can convince him to stay.”  Sri Guru Angad Dev ji, listen oh Mind of Virtues: I then said: “why are you forgetting, Mardana?  Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji is the Ikankaar.  You would be a fool to leave him.  You are stuck in the attachment of your family.  You are taking on pain to buy glass. Guru ji is like the philosopher’s stone.  His company is the Amrit.  You want to love the attachment of your family which is like poison.”  He did not listen to me.  I tried.  Bhai Mardana ji took leave and left.

Bhai Mardana ji was happy and left towards his home.  He was eager to go home.  There was a thick jungle where Guru ji sat.  Guru ji didn’t take another step after Bhai Mardana ji left.  Guru ji spent the whole day there.  Bhai Mardana ji was travelling towards his home.  He had love in his heart.  After travelling for a day, he set off on Day 2 of his travels.  He was then met with a Rakshish.  The Rakshish captured Bhai Mardana ji and took him to his home.  Other than the Satguru, who could save Bhai Mardana ji?  Bhai Mardana ji was trembling with fear.  His mouth was dry.  His face went pale.  There was nobody else there to help him.  He couldn’t even yell for help.  The jungle was thick.  He lost his patience and was numb with fear.  He thought to himself: “I won’t survive this.  I didn’t obey Guru ji.  I made a mistake.  This Rakshish will kill me.  It is the Dharma of the Great Being; he will destroy my fears.  He is the Sri Prabhoo.”  He thought about this and thought of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  He did an Ardaas: “he is a scary Rakshish.  I promise to never disobey you again.  You are the friend of the weak.  You are fearless.”  Guru Nanak Dev ji the Giver of Joy, sensed everything.  He laughed and said to me: “Mardana has been captured by a Rakshish.  He will boil him in oil and eat him.”  I heard this and folded my hands.  I said to Sri Guru ji: “you told him that something will capture him.  This should have happened.  Why would your words go amiss?  The 3 Loks obey your command.  We tried stopping him but he was being foolish.  He left in the attachment of his family.”  Guru ji said to me: “let’s go quickly and save him.  He came with us so we need to protect him.  I need him for many tasks.”  After saying this, we set off quickly.  I asked Guru ji: “how far is the Rakshish’s place?  He wants to eat Mardana ji.  We need to get there quick so he is not eaten.”  Guru ji said: “it’s not far.  It’s nearby.  It’s about 33 km.”  After saying this, Guru ji held my hand and we travelled in the blink of an eye with his power.

The jungle was thick, where the Rakshish’s home was.  Guru ji saw Bhai Mardana ji as very scared.  He laughed and said: “why are you sitting here?  Why don’t you go home?  Tell me what happened.”  Bhai Mardana ji was embarrassed.  He lowered his head and didn’t say anything.  He was very happy to see Guru ji though.  He felt as though he had a new birth.  He knew he wasn’t going to die.  The Compassionate One said to me: “this cauldron, which is boiling, Mardana will be put in it.  The Rakshish will boil him in oil and eat him.  We should hide back there.”  I heard this and said: “if we hide, what’s the use of us coming here?  If the Rakshish eats him, then?  You should do what it takes to free him.  He is your servant.  He should not be destroyed.”  Sri Guru ji said: “just watch the drama.  Be happy with what the Kartaar shows you.”  The Rakshish couldn’t see Guru ji but Bhai Mardana ji could.  The oil was hot like fire.  The foolish Rakshish picked up Bhai Mardana ji and threw him in the boiling oil.  Bhai Mardana ji yelled out to Guru ji: “save me!  Honour your promise and save me!  Save me from being burnt!  It’s not the time to see my faults!  It’s time to protect me, oh Compassionate One!”  As soon as he said Guru ji’s name, the oil went cold.  When Bhai Mardana ji felt the oil.  It was cold.  Fire didn’t touch Bhai Mardana ji.  It was like the water of winter.  Guru ji showed himself to the Rakshish.  The Rakshish saw Guru ji and said: “who are you and where did you come from?  You made my cauldron of oil cold.”  Guru ji laughed and said: “Koda, what do you care about where I am from?  Why are you delaying eating your food?  Eat him.  Your food is without being boiled.  You can still eat him like this.”  The Rakshish was surprised.  He said: “how do you know my name?  We have never met before.  I have seen you for the first time.”  After saying this, he remembered his previous birth.  By the radiance of Guru ji’s Darshan, his curse was broken.  He remembered everything.  He brought a mirror from his room and looked at Guru ji’s reflection in the mirror.  When he saw Guru ji’s beautiful form in the mirror, he quickly grabbed Guru ji’s feet.  He bowed and then stood up.  He folded his hands.  He was filled with love.  He folded his hands and was filled with emotion.  Guru ji said: “tell me about your story.”  Koda said: “first give me permission to give you a gift.  I wish to give you sweet fruits from this jungle.  I will tell you my story then.  I will tell you what happened with me in my last birth.”  Guru ji gave him permission.

Koda went where sweetest fruits were in the jungle.  There were many fruit trees there.  He brought the sweetest and ripest fruits which would temp the greatest Munnis.  He put the fruits in front of Guru ji.  Guru ji smiled and said: “your Guru is Mardana.  Give him the fruits first and bow to him.  By doing his Pooja, you will be saved.”  Koda then said: “he is the crown of my head now.  I got to see you because of him.  Meeting him, I am in bliss.”  Bhai Mardana ji was happy and said: “I received everything oh Giver of Mukti.  You should be worshipped.  Forgive my big mistakes.  I disobeyed you.  Please bless me and keep me with you.”  Sri Guru ji laughed and said: “you are always happy.  I am happy with you.  I will always keep you with me.  You must by hungry.  You are always hungry.  Eat this delicious fruit.”  I took permission and placed the sweet fruit in front of Guru ji and then gave them to Bhai Mardana ji.  I took some as well.  We all ate the fruit.  The fruits in front of Guru ji, Guru ji picked them up and gave them to Koda.  As soon as Koda bit into the fruit, his body turned into a Devata’s body from a Rakshish’s body.  He became happy and praised Guru ji: “Namo!  Namo, oh Sustainer of every dimension.  You are the Nirgun and Sargun.  You are beyond mind and words.  You are beautiful beyond comprehension.  You are the Master, Parbrahm Parmeshwar.  I bow to you, Namaam Namaami.  You are the lover of the Bhagats.  You destroy their pain.  May you be victorious, oh Supreme One.  You give peace to the Munnis.  The ones who are the enemies of the saints, you destroy them.  You made the bridge of Dharam to cross this world, oh Sustainer.  I bow to your feet oh Bhagwanta.  Listen to what happened to me.  You are omniscient.  You know everything.  I will still obey your command though.  I was a Brahmin in my last birth.  I studied a lot of Vidya from my Guru.  I was filled with ego from learning so much Vidya.  My Guru was a Tattveta (the knower of the Brahm).  One day, my Guru casually came to my home.  I didn’t get up to respect him.  Filled with pride, I remained seated on my seat.  My Guru saw this disrespect and became angry.  He cursed me: “this unwise thing you did, you became egotistical of your Vidya.  Nothing is spoiled of mine but if you aren’t punished, then others will disrespect their Gurus.  You deserve to by punished.  Otherwise the good traditions will be destroyed in the world.  You will be born as a Rakshish.  You sinned and forgot about the Dharma.”  In this way, I was cursed by my Guru.  I got scared and trembled hearing my Guru’s words.  I said: “oh Guru ji, the sin that I did, I will be a Rakshish now, but how long will I suffer this in the world?  Please be compassionate and tell me.”  Guru ji became compassionate and said to me: “the Ikankaar will take an Avatar and come into the world.  You will meet him.  He will bless you and save you.”  I said: “Guru ji, how will I know him?  Tell me how I can recognize him.”  My Guru ji heard this and gave me a mirror.  He said: “take this.  You will recognize him.  Whose ever reflection in this mirror, is seen as a human being, that will be the Avatar.  He will save you.  The other people who are born in this world, they have come from other species.  When you look at them in this mirror, you will see them as animals they have been in other births.  You won’t see them as humans.”  I took the mirror and came here.  I have lived here ever since.  I have captured many people and brought them here.  I checked their reflections in this mirror and would see them as pigs, dogs, donkeys, birds, lions or other animals.  I saw their faces and then ate them.  I saw your reflection and saw you as a human.  Having your Darshan, my curse was broken and I remembered who I was.  This is my story.  Give me your command oh Bhagwanta.  I wish to leave this birth cycle.  I wish to be rewarded with your Darshan.”  He was a Devata now.  He bowed and departed.

Bhai Mardana ji saw this whole event.  He bowed to Guru ji and said: “Dhan Dhan Prabhoo!”  He praised Guru ji.  Bhai Mardana ji said to Guru ji: “Sri Prabhoo ji, let’s keep this mirror.  It is unique.  Keep it with you.”  The Gareeb Nivaaj said: “what use is this mirror to me?  People who have thoughts like this mirror, they have the illumination of the Aatma.  Keep this thought with you forever: the Parmeshwar lives in every heart.  Only see the Parmeshwar in all.  You will be in bliss.  The doubts will be destroyed.”
