1-41 Baba Kalu ji, Lalu ji and Rai Bhullaar ji Meeting
The toenails of Guru ji are beautiful. They are like the reins of a horse which stop my mind from wandering. I still my mind and begin to say the Katha which gives Mukti.
Sri Bala Sandhur Vaach
Satguru ji, the Beautiful One, sat at my father’s well. A person saw Guru ji and went towards the city. The person went to Baba Kalu ji’s home. He told him about Guru ji. When Baba Kalu ji and Chacha Lalu ji heard this, they both quickly got up and went to see Guru ji. They were like thirsty people going after water. They hadn’t seen Guru ji for a while. Mata Tripta ji heard about her son and her love overflowed like the waves in the ocean. Guru ji was like the full moon, making the waves anxious in the ocean. Mata ji hadn’t seen her son for a while. She was in pain from the separation from her son. She ran with uneven steps, placing her feet in high and low elevations as she ran. She wanted to see her son quick. The whole family heard and came to see Guru ji.
Where Guru ji was, everyone came. Mataji and Pithaji came. The Lotus Bodied One saw his parents and got up. He bowed his head to his parent’s feet and then he bowed to the other elders. Mata ji gave him her blessings and hugged him. Tears shed from her eyes. She was drenched in the great attachment. She didn’t let her son go. It was like a pauper receiving the Paras. The tears drenched her clothes. It was like an ocean of love uprising. Seeing the Kaphni Guru ji wore, Pitha ji was very angry. Guru ji tied a Kumerkassa and held a Sapha. He tied a Chadra on his waste. Another was on his body. He tied a 2-yard Sapha to his head. If someone was to think of Guru ji’s form, their wishes would be fulfilled. When Pitha ji saw this form, he was angry. Chacha Lalu ji understood that his brother was angry. Baba Lalu ji was wise in every way. He thought about it and spoke to his brother: “mine and your honour is the same. Glory is good, slander is bad. It is mine as well. Don’t say anything now. Our mother is Mata Banarsi ji and our father is Baba Shiv Ram ji. There is no difference between us. Our home is the same. Listen to my words: your personality is bitter and strict. Don’t say any harsh words to Nanak ji. Don’t get angry seeing his form. Let go of your angry. Speak sweet words. Let’s take him home once.” Pitha Kalu ji heard this and stayed quiet. He thought about it and didn’t say anything. Chacha Lalu ji said to Guru Nanak Dev ji: “I am your Chacha. I am like your father as we are close in age. When you left to go to another land, your mother was crying a lot. She thought of your separation, she cried day and night. Kalu ji spoke harsh words to you. Don’t think about those words. Forget about that. For your mother, have compassion. Stay in your home now. Don’t go to other lands. Your mother is always drenched in your love. She always says: “my only son has left me.” She remembers you a lot. Her body is always in pain without you. When she heard you were here, she ran to see you. She was thirsting to see your face. My elder brother is like my father. I don’t say anything to him. Let’s go home. Don’t go anywhere now. Give peace and joy to your parents. Let go of this form that you have taken on, of a Fakir. Wear beautiful clothes.” Guru ji’s words are filled with Gyaan. He is the mine of virtues. He said: “you consider this home as your only home. Your mind doesn’t wish to leave it. I have one home which is permanent. Other homes are false and garbage. When you see Sach Khand as your true home, you will see it as your real home. These worldly homes are a myth. They will be destroyed one day. The people of the world are stuck in myth. They cry after them. They spend their whole life not thinking of the Parmeshwar. When they die, they leave empty-handed. They are upset in the afterlife. They then know that they were stuck in garbage their whole life.” Chacha Lalu ji said: “listen to me son, your mother came to take you home. She wanted to see you for a long time. She wished to see you so she ran. I’m your Chacha, here is your father, we all love you. Let go of these words. Live in joy with your family. Don’t talk about going away now. Staying at home, people respect you. Everyone knows you are wise and deserving. The form of Fakir you have taken on, the relatives see you and think that you are useless and good for nothing. They think you ran away and became a Fakir because you couldn’t do anything. Listen to me and live amongst the relatives. Don’t disobey my words.” Guru ji said:
“My family is really big. Forgiveness is my mother. Santokh is my father. Sat is my Chacha, by which my mind was won. Listen Chachaji think about this: the people are bound by attachment. What good can come of it? They are not wise. Rahao
Love and fear of Parmeshwar is my brother. Love of Parmeshwar is my son. Patience is my daughter. I am with such a family. Calmness is my friend. Wisdom is my wife. This is my family. Breaths I take and play. Ik Oankaar is my Master who made us. Leaving him, getting stuck in other things, Nanak will be in pain.
Gauri Mahalla 1..
Let wisdom be your mother and contentment be your father..
Let truth be your brother. These are your best relatives..1..
What can be said, cannot be fully spoken..
The nature of Parmeshwar cannot be valued..1..Rahao
Modesty, humility and wisdom is my mother-in-law..
Good deeds is my wife..2..
To meet the Guru is my wedding date, the separation from the world is my wedding..

(SGGS 151)
I live in this family day and night. My honour is in this family. Love is the father. Wisdom is my mother. The peace is my nurse who plays with me with love. Santokh plays with me who plays with me day and night. Forgiveness is my sister. Vairagya is my brother. Truth is my Chacha who loves me with his heart. Gyaan is my son which gives me bliss. Gyaan made me radiant and honorable. The Gyaan made the ultimate Gyaan illuminate which destroyed Agyaan. This family gives peace. I am happy in this family. Leaving this family, only an unwise person would go somewhere else. The ones who live with this family are respected here and in the afterlife. There is no destruction to reputation with this family.”
The Lotus Bodied One said this and went quiet. Chacha Lalu ji said to Pitha Kalu ji: “he won’t go home now. Take him to Rai Bhullaar ji who can convince him.” Chacha ji said to Guru ji: “let’s go to Rai Bhullaar ji’s home.” Guru ji heard Rai Bhullaar ji’s name and quickly got up. Many other people went with them all. Anyone who saw Guru ji on the way, bowed their heads.
Rai Bhullaar ji wanted to see Guru Nanak Dev ji. He was waiting for him for a long time. He said: “when will he come to me?” A person came to the Rai and said: “Nanak ji is coming, who you wished to see.” Rai Bhullaar ji was happy to hear this. It was like a thirsty anxious person getting water. Rai Bhullaar ji’s face illuminated seeing Guru ji come at a distance. He saw Guru ji’s moon-like face. It was like the Chakor being happy. Without strength, being in an elderly age, Rai Bhullaar ji remained seated on his seat. He was going to get up. He put his feet on the floor. Guru ji quickly came to stop him from getting up. Rai Bhullaar ji was filled with love. He couldn’t speak from a swelling throat. He shed tears. It was like Gyaan and Love meeting each other in humanly bodies. Both were focused in deep love. Rai Bhullar ji couldn’t come out of this state. His tears kept shedding. His body was anxious with goosebumps. He couldn’t speak. He kept hugging Guru ji. He let him go after a while. Guru ji touched Rai Bhullar ji’s feet. Rai Bhullar ji saw this as a sin. He said: “you have made me do a wrong thing Sri Nanak ji. You have killed me while being alive. I called you to worship you. I wanted to have your Darshan. You touched my feet and gave me pain. This is a very wrong thing. How can I wash this sin? I don’t know a solution to this.” Guru ji said: “don’t worry. You are older than me and a lover of the Khuddah. I am your servant. It is right for me to bow to you.” Rai ji said: “you make the servants look bigger. You give them the greatness. This is your greatness. I know that this is not a new thing for you. This is the ancient tradition that you have done in many Yugas. Yudhister was born as the Pandav. Krishan was under his spell by his Bhagti. Krishan obeyed and bowed to Yudhister. He was the destroyer of sin but stayed as his servant. The Kartar is under Bhagti’s spell. The Murari follows this promise. The Maha Vishnu, in which the whole universe exists, is under the Bhagat’s spell.” When Rai Bhullaar ji said this with his hands folded, he said: “you are the root of the universe, I wish to worship your feet. You are the ancient Parmeshwar Purakh, away from nature, Compassionate One, Sanatan. You are the Jyot, beautiful form. You are the Emperor of Emperors. The King of kings. Oh Compassionate One, forgive me. You are omniscient. You are the friend of the weak. Break the bonds of worldly attachments. To save the sinners is your promise.” As he requested with humility, his attachments began to break. Guru ji saw his humility and became happy. Guru ji said: “Khuddah already forgave you. Your devotion is solid. You will be with me forever. You will be in bliss, which is priceless.” Rai ji heard this and said: “if you accept my request, then I will know that you blessed me. I can’t believe you till then, Hari. I wish to worship your feet. Only then will I be satiated. You are like the ship. I won’t be calm till then. Your lotus feet are the clouds of bliss. I can only be satiated if I bow to them. My mind will be calm then. Only then will my mind will be satiated. Prabhoo ji, satiate me and break my bonds from the world and the Jumms. I don’t wish to come back. Please accept my request oh Compassionate One. I seek the sanctuary of your feet. They are my support.” Guru ji saw the love in his heart and said: “what your wish is, I can’t refuse it. You can do as you wish.” The whole family stayed for about 2 hours. Rai Bhullar ji sent everyone off except for Guru ji. Rai Bhullar ji was happy and thought to himself: “I will make great food for him first.” He sent a Brahmin cook to cook food. He said to him with love: “Khuddah has come to my home today. Wash up and prepare the kitchen. Make the best food. I will feed the food to Guru ji without delay. Use water to purify the place. Make the food with the correct tradition.” Delicious food was prepared with dry fruits and ghee. Fine rice and many types of salty dishes were made. Rai Bhullar ji got up and took water. He washed Guru ji’s feet as Guru ji sat on a beautiful bed. He was the Gem of the Bedis. Rai Bhullar ji sat on the floor and was drenched in love. He respectfully washed Guru ji’s feet with his hands. He took the water from the feet and put it on his head. He drank it and put it in his eyes. He dried and wiped Guru ji’s feet with an expensive cloth. He touched his forehead to Guru ji’s feet. He was emotional and couldn’t speak. He couldn’t speak because of his bliss. Who could sing this Katha of Love? No poet could do that. It is like a dumb person experiencing sweets. What can he say? He called a servant to see if the food was ready. Guru ji was taken to the kitchen with love. Rai Bhullar ji was in joy. He had Guru ji seated in front of him. He said to the Brahmin cook: “give the food according to tradition. Give him as much as he wishes to eat. Bring many types of dishes. Bring the sweet dishes first. Then bring sour and salty dishes. When he eats with delight, my life will be blessed.” Guru ji heard these words and the ocean of joy said, while stating the correct tradition of eating food, by which one can achieve the highest status.
Maaroo Mahalla 1.
Sweet is the knowing of the Parmeshwar’s form; salty is to keep the abstinence from pleasures; sour is the pure focus (Dhyaan) of Parmeshwar; such food, whoever eats this is the supreme human..
Rai ji, eat this type of food. Let go of other foods. Rahao..
Dry fruits is to be connected with the Parmeshwar; Eating this will satiate you..
Satguru is the tree which is with love and compassion (fruits).. Eat this fruit.. The fruit is Amrit, his Naam. The taste is Brahmgyaan.. The one who receives it, only that person drinks.. Akaal Purakh’s Darshan is the success, in which heart he resides..
Says Nanak, this is the best taste; taste of Ik Ankaar is experienced. Other tastes seem watered-down when the True Naam has been given in the mouth..
(Kavi Santokh Singh ji’s Literature)
Rai Bhullaar ji said: “you are the doer of all tasks. Whoever you bless, they chant the Naam.” The Brahmin brought the sweet dishes first. Rice came next with the salty and sour dishes. As Guru ji ate the food, the Rai’s bliss got deeper. Guru ji’s face was like the full moon. The Rai kept staring at Guru ji’s face like a Chakor. His sorrow was gone. Guru ji ate the food and then got up. The Rai folded his hands and said: “you fulfilled my wish. I now know that I will be blessed.” Guru ji sat on the nice bed. He was the moon without the faults. Rai Bhullaar ji was drenched in love. He spoke in love: “Balla and Mardana, you have done a great favour for me. I was like a field without seeds. Without water, it dries up and burns. When it rains on top of it, it becomes lush. That is what you did for me. I am at peace.”
1-42 Baba Kalu ji and Baba Lalu ji
Attachment and hate are two illnesses. The dust of Guru ji’s feet is like the medicated Chooran that cures the illnesses. I use this medicine to cure my mind. I state the Katha which makes one’s sorrow go away.
Sri Bala Sandhur Vaach..
Guru ji, with the great personality, ate food and sat on the bed near Rai Bhullaar ji. Guru ji’s family had left. Mata ji was anxious and came back to Rai Bhullaar ji’s home. She wanted to keep Guru ji with her. She had her face covered with her chunni (known as a kundh) and sat near Rai Bhullaar ji. She said to him with her hands folded, with humility: “Rai ji, listen to my plea, do this favour for me. Keep my son here with me.” The Guru’s mother spoke in this way. She cried as she spoke. When the Rai heard this, his throat swelled up as well. To give her hope he said: “oh Lotus-bodied One you are pure and omniscient. You know the traditions of the home but I still want to say something.” Baba Kalu ji and Baba Lalu ji had come as the Rai spoke. They sat down and sighed in pain. Guru ji, the Moon-Faced One said: “Rai ji, speak without fear and doubt.” When the Giver of Joy gave his permission, Rai Bhullaar ji spoke: “farm on your land by keeping workers. I won’t ask for pay or tax. The land will be farmed for free. I will not ask for any money. I have only one plea, look at your family and stay in your home. Your mother is sad when you leave. She can’t see you, so she cries.” Hearing Bhullaar’s words, the saviour of the weak spoke of the real farming in Raag Sorath:
Sri Mukhvaak.. Sorath Mahalla 1 Ghar 1..
Make the mind the plougher, good deeds the farming, modesty the water and the body the field..
Let the Naam be the seed, contentment the plow, the fence should be your humility..
Doing deeds of love, the seed shall sprout, you will see your home flourish then..1..
O Baba, Maya never stays with anyone..
This Maya has attracted the whole world, only some understand this.. Rahao..
(SGGS 595)
Baba Lalu ji then spoke: “set up a shop in Talwandi then. Stay in your home and do your business. Listen to my words. Keep them in your heart. When you leave, your mother gets really depressed. She cries.” Guru ji said the other Padh of the Shabad by which the great status is achieved:
The Shop is your decreasing life, the Naam is the merchandise..
The understanding and contemplation is the warehouse, store the Naam in the warehouse..
Deal with the Lord’s dealers, earn your profits and rejoice in your mind..2..
(SGGS 595)
Baba Lalu ji asked the Rai to speak: “if Nanak ji is depressed from the home, he is not going then. Ask him to buy horses so he can breed them and sell them going to other lands. He can travel where he likes with them. His mother will have hope then. She will know that her son will come home.” Guru ji heard this and said the third beautiful Padh:
Let hearing of the scriptures by the trade. Truth is the horses..
Gathering up merits for your travelling expenses as you don’t know what tomorrow holds..
When you arrive in the land of the Formless One, you shall find peace in his Palace..3..
(SGGS 595)
When Guru ji spoke words of detachment, nobody understood him. They kept speaking of the householder’s life with the Lotus bodied One. Baba Kalu ji then said: “if you don’t want to do all this, work for the king then. Become his employee or soldier. Listen to me and do this. Let go of your Fakir’s outfit.” Guru ji said the 4th Padh:
Let your service be the focus of your attention, and let your occupation be the faith in the Naam..
Let restraint of sins be the effort. People will call you great then..
Nanak says, The Lord shall look upon with his gracious glance. You shall be blessed with the fourth level of Gyaan (attainment)..4..2..
(SGGS 595)
Everyone went quiet then. Mata Tripta ji become upset with attachment. The family didn’t know what to do to keep him home. They thought of how to keep him home: “our only son has become a Fakir. He will go to another land. How will we keep hope?” The parents only knew of the attachment. They saw him as a human being. The Rai said: “give us your command. Tell me what you want to see. If I can serve you, let me know. I will see my life as a success then. If you want something, I can give it to you and feel blessed. My wish will be fulfilled.” Guru ji heard this and said a Bani of Vairagya: “Sri Kartaar is the saviour of all. He commands me. He is the sustainer of the life on earth and in water; the animals and the plants, he gives them food and watches them. The things of the world will not last. They are destroyed when the Karma is spent. Many kings left all their things. Nothing went with them. Those who won all 10 directions, make other kings their servants; they gathered money and wealth; made the four types of armies; they didn’t see anyone equal to them; at their end time, they left barefoot from this earth. All their belongings were left behind. This world is an illusion of lies. The Maya is the canopy made of many colours. The Maya made the man forget who he really was and love the things of the world. People fall in love with material objects and pleasures of the senses. They are garbage. They are only for pleasure. People are stuck in them. They waste their whole life. They don’t see the form of the One without a beginning or an end. They could know if the Parmeshwar blesses them.” The Rai said: “oh Gracious One, you speak the truth but your parents are anxious. Don’t go anywhere. Stay in your home with joy. Take 3 wells of land. Farm the land and feed the poor. Give them Langar. You can’t see the pain of the poor. Do this oh Gracious One.” Guru ji said: “the Parmeshwar’s Langar keep on going. The whole world asks and eats. The One has no beginning or end. He is the Master of the Universe. He made the body, wealth and food. Remember him all the time. There is no donor like him. There is no kitchen which can compare to the kitchen of the Emperor Parmeshwar. No king or Emperor can compare.” The Rai heard this and understood. He knew that Guru ji will not stay. “If I make efforts, he still won’t stay.” The Rai said to Pitha Kalu ji: “the Form of Joy, your son, he is not under anyone’s command. Don’t bother yourself. Go home and rest at ease. Remove your worries as your son is great. He destroys everyone’s pain. He is Khuddah in human form. Who can disobey him? He is independent. He gives donations to all. He is deserving of worship and bowing. He is the destroyer of hypocrisy and is the greatest beyond great. He is the Avatar of the Great One!” Pitha Kalu ji had regrets. He didn’t see his son as the Avatar. He only saw his son. He then went home, taking deep breaths. The clothes that Guru ji wears, gives peace to all but Pitha ji is in pain because of that. He is not seeing his glory to come. He rejects the ocean of Amrit and loves the mirage. He does not take Gyaan with devotion. Baba Lalu ji walked with Baba Kalu ji and tried to console him: “keep hope. Why are you in so much pain?” Mata Tripta ji was upset. She said: “I have only one son who wishes to go to other lands. The Rai tried to talk sense into him but he didn’t listen to him. He is detached from the home. He doesn’t see his home.”
The Flag of the Bedis spent the night at Rai Bhullaar ji’s home. In the morning, Guru ji went to the jungles. He spent the whole day there and then came to his home in the evening. He was the giver of Mukti, the Kartaar. He came to his home by his own wish. Mata ji was really happy in her heart. Her body couldn’t handle her joy. She said in love: “you don’t need to do any work. Just stay in the home. Nobody will say anything to you. You can do as you wish. Don’t go away from my sight. Don’t worry about anything. I won’t let the worries come close to you. Wear beautiful clothes. Eat what you want to. Stay in the home and sing the glories of the Parmeshwar. Nobody will stop you.” Pitha Kalu ji came and sat down. He said: “you didn’t do a good thing by quitting the Modikhana. You had a lot of money. You ate good, spent good and gave a lot. I told you to save the money but you spent it all for nothing. You gave away all your savings to the poor. I heard that you had a lot of profit. You didn’t take that and gave it all away. You took on the form of Sadhoos and had us dishonored. Since you have been born, you didn’t give us any peace or joy. I tried to tell you many times but you didn’t listen to me. Now, the relatives will say: “he has become a Fakir. He was useless and did not think of the Kshatriya caste or the Bedi family.” Let go of the Kaphni you are wearing. You dishonor me with it. Instead of joy, you give me pain. Stay in your home and don’t do any work. I won’t say anything to you. Don’t work. Why did you become a Fakir?” Guru ji remained quiet, hearing his father. He didn’t say a word. He was the giver of Mukti. The Kamal Badan did not say Bani which was like bees from his lotus mouth. He saw his father’s greatness like the darkness. He didn’t say anything. The swan-like words remained in his mansarovar-like mouth. The Gyaan in his words did not come out. There was no use saying anything to his father. Mata ji called Guru ji to eat food with love. She had him eat the food and drink warm milk. Guru ji then went to sleep.
In the morning, the lotus flowers bloomed. The Chakvas were happy to see the sun. The Guru’s blessing makes the Sikhs bloom. The Chakvas get Gyaan from Guru ji. The stars hid like vices running away. The attachment is the darkness, which is not seen. Guru ji bathed and went to the jungle. He was alone. He sat there. At night he would go home. In the day he would be in the jungle. Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji was the home of virtues. Sometimes Rai Bhullaar ji would call Guru ji to his home to do his Darshan. The Rai would have the Brahmin cook food for Guru ji. He would request Guru ji to eat the food. The Rai was drenched in complete love. His heart was filled with devotion. Sri Guru ji would not refuse the Rai’s requests. He would go anytime the Rai would call him. Rai Bhullaar ji would take the Gyaan of Brahmgyaan from Guru ji. Rai Bhullaar ji wanted Brahmgyaan. He served Guru ji in many ways. He focused his attention on Guru ji’s form. He was old and had less time left. He wanted his life to be a success. He was meditating on Guru ji’s lotus feet all the time.
One day, the Rai sent his servant to call Guru ji to him. Guru ji came. The Rai said with his hands folded: “oh Giver of Mukti, show me my real form. I have forgotten my real form. I don’t know who I am. I don’t know anything. Gyaan has increased in my mind. The wise say that Agyaan is like darkness. I don’t know it though. In the darkness, one knows his body but not other things. Agyaan has taken my full attention. I can’t know who I am because of that. The darkness is too much. It gives all the Jeevs pain. There is no wisdom like yours. There is no one wiser than you. I don’t know anyone else like. Please be compassionate and bless me. Show me my real form. Tell me who I am. Your compassion will show me this. My thirst has increased. See me as deserving and give me Gyaan. Bless me.” Guru ji heard these words filled with humility. To give wisdom, Guru ji got ready.
1-43 The Wisdom of Gyaan to the Rai/ Tulsa Dasi
The glory of Sri Guru ji’s feet is like a pearl cage. My mind is enslaved to this cage. I speak the Katha of the Mine of Virtues.
Sri Bala Sandhur Vaach..
Hearing the Rai’s plea, Sri Guru ji spoke: “oh king, tell me where your ego resides? Say it to me.” The Rai said: “I believe that I was born in the house of Turks, oh Gracious One. My age is old. My hair is white. My skin is weak and wrinkled. I am weak. My head trembles. I am still stuck in my vices. This is where my self-identity is. This is my “Hamta,” where I see myself; that is “me.” I see my wife, children, brothers and relatives. I call myself as Bhullaar. I am known to all my relatives. I see them as mine. This is my “Mamta,” my sense of “mine.” Guru ji said: “these are the Dharmas of the body. This is an illusion. You have entangled yourself into them. To be born and to die is the body’s Dharam. It becomes a child, an adult and then a senior. This is not your real form. This body is made of earth, wind, fire, water and air. These 5 prime elements are lifeless. The body is made of these 5 prime elements. Whatever the cause is, that is the effect. The body is essentially lifeless without you. You are the “Chetna” – pure consciousness, “Sat” – infinite, everlasting and “Anand” – blissful One. You never take birth or nor do you die. You are without name, form or caste. You are always in the single state and away from pain. When you leave your body, your relatives will take your body out of the house. Without you, your dead body is considered impure. See yourself as separate and pure from your body. You are above the caste and creed. See your form as different. Wherever (or whoever) you have established your “mine,” nobody is with you during your time of pain. See your wealth and belongings only useful till you are alive. They are useless once you are dead. The people you know, they won’t be with you when you leave the body. Your body is like clothes, which get old. Your Aatma is separate and unique. Understand this in your heart.”
The Rai discarded his belief of his body. He said: “you speak the truth. The body is not me. I feel that the Indriyas are where my pleasure is. I see with my eyes and hear with my ears. I walk my feet and hold things with my hands. I speak with my voice. I smell with my nose. I feel with my skin. I taste with my tongue. This is my “me.” This is separate from my body. I have seen the Indriya as me.” Guru ji said: “you are not the Indriyas. Listen to an example: just as an axe is nothing without a carpenter, that is how the Indriyas are without you. The Aatma is sperate from the Indriyas. It is the blissful form. The Indriyas are many with different functions. How did you think you were them? You are the same all the time. You are pure consciousness. The Indriyas are lifeless without you. They can’t do anything without you. The blind person has eyes but can’t see, the dumb person has a tongue but can’t speak, the deaf person has ears but can’t hear. The person is still alive, though. The Aatma is separate from them. The Aatma is the support of the body and the Indriyas. The Indriyas take on their personalities from the prime elements. The character of space is sound. The ear takes this on. The character of wind is taken by the skin. It feels. The character of the elements is taken on by the Indriya. Why do you think you are them? The eyes take on the character of fire. Understand this oh king. The character of water is taken by the tongue, which tastes. The tongue tastes various tastes. The nose takes the character of earth, which is smell. Understand this that the nose is made of the (elemental power of the) earth to smell. The earth smells. Understand the characters of the elements. Why do you hold the feeling you are them? The Indriyas are the well of pain. You are pure Bliss.”
The Rai forgot his Indriyas. He then said: “you speak the truth. I am not the Indriyas. I see that my beautiful form is the Pranas. Till the Pranas stay, I am alive. When the Pranas leave, the body dies. I see my form as the Pranas. Pain and joy are felt through the Pranas. The body and Indriya cannot survive without Pranas. When they are hungry and thirsty, I eat and drink. For this reason, I see the Pranas as my form.” Guru ji said: “oh Rajan, you are not the Pranas. In the three states: “Jaagrat” – awake, “Swapan” – sleep, and “Sakopat” – deep sleep; the Pranas are never still. You are not like them. See them as separate from them. The Pranas experience while you are awake and sleep. In the deep sleep state, they immerse in the “Ghananand” the deep blissful state. Your Aatma is without the Brithi- outer awareness. It does not move. It is always in bliss. That is your real form. What you said about the Pranas supporting the body, listen to the answer: the Pranas are the horses for the Jeev riding it. They go to the afterlife when you leave the body. The relatives are sad then. For this reason, see your form as different. If you know your form, your pain and problems are destroyed.”
The Rai heard this and discarded is feeling of being the Pranas. He said: “I have seen that the whole word is fragile. I speak the truth. I am not the Pranas. I see my real form as the “Munn,” the mind, then. All of the Gyaan is dependent on the Munn. Till the Munn is not focused, Gyaan cannot be achieved. I have made a determination by the Munn to kill all of the vices. The Munn makes all of the determinations, that is its Dharma. For this reason, the Munn is my real self. I see the determinations as my mind. That is my form. There is nothing separate from the Munn.” Guru ji said: “Rajan, you are not the Munn either. The Munn has many vices. Your real self is without vices. See your Chetan properly which gave birth to your Munn. That is your real form; which is always illuminating. Your Munn is lifeless as well. The Munn is made of the Satogun portion of the prime element “space”. The Munn is born and it dies. You are forever. You are infinite and in the single state. Let me explain further: if one says, “my Munn says that I will fight the enemies and win,” who is saying “my Munn?” The one saying that is your real self. If you were the Munn, you wouldn’t say “my Munn.” You are the one that knows the movement and the stillness of your Munn. You are self-illuminating. Just as you see the eyes, ears and other Gyaan Indriyas, see the Munn as another medium as well. Without eyes you can’t see and without ears you can’t hear; in the same way without the Munn, there is no awareness.”
When the Rai heard this, he understood the ego of his Munn. He didn’t see that as his real self. He thought for a long time and said: “I am not the Munn. I know that now. I am the Bhuddi (wisdom). That is my real form. To make a judgement, that is the Dharma of the Bhuddi. I see my ego in the Bhuddi. I don’t see anything deeper than that. If there is something, please tell me.” The Lotus-Bodied One said: “Rajan, you place the ego in the Bhuddi. That is not you. Think about it. The Jeev is in pain because of the Bhuddi. From the Tamogun portion of the elements, the “Sthool” (solid) body was made. From the Rajogun portion of the elements, the Indriyas were made. From the Satogun portion of the elements, the “Antiskaran” was made. The antiskaran has 4 parts: Munn – mind, Bhuddi – wisdom, Chit – desire and Ahankaar – ego/(false) awareness of self. See their characteristics. They depend on you. The body is like the chariot. The Indriyas are the horses, oh patient one. The reins are the Munn. The Bhuddi is the chariot driver. The rider/owner of the chariot is the Aatma. That is you, which is away from joy and sorrow. See that as your real form. Let go of other egos (the feeling of “me”). Fire cannot burn you. Water cannot drench you. The weapons can’t cut you. The wind cannot blow you away. You are not young, adult or old. You aren’t born and don’t die, only the Antiskaran is born and dies. You aren’t hungry or thirsty, ever. Pain comes because you forget your real self.” Rai Bhullaar ji heard these words and understood his real form. His real form was revealed to him. As soon as he saw his real form, he felt a deep bliss. He was in a single state. His worldly bonds were all broken. He folded his hands and bowed to Guru ji. He praised Guru ji:
“Dhan Dhan oh complete Gurudeva. By your compassion I came to know my real self. Attachment and hatred are two lions. You saved me from their fear. I was engrossed in the deep snake of ego. You saw me as weak and saved me. I know my Aatma form now. Knowing it, the pain of the world is destroyed.” Rai Bhullaar ji heard this wisdom and knew his real form. He saw his Aatma everywhere. He saw himself in the smallest particles. There was no difference between him and the universe now. He was blessed. Guru Nanak Dev ji then came to his home. He was the sun of Brahmgyaan. Doing his Darshan, the sins of Kaliyuga would run away. Guru ji spent some days like this. He had come to give people the righteous path.
One day, the Destroyer of Pain, Lotus Body One, was resting in his home. He was sleeping on his bed. It was then time for him to eat. Delicious foods were made. Many foods were made. Mata Tripta ji was in the kitchen. She had many foods made for her son. She called a maid (either it was Tulsa or a maid named Mantra) and said: “go and wake up my son. Bring him here. The food is getting cold. Many types of food are made. Tell him to eat.” The maid heard this and went to where Guru ji was sleeping. The maid wanted to wake up Guru ji but she was very wise. She didn’t say anything. One of Guru ji’s feet was uncovered. The maid wanted to touch his foot. She wanted to kiss his foot as love overwhelmed in her heart, seeing Guru ji as the form of Parmeshwar. She had seen and heard of his glory. She didn’t touch his foot. She touched Guru ji’s foot with her tongue out of devotion. She was fortunate. She had love. As soon as her tongue touched Guru ji’s foot, she gained the awareness of the 3 Loks. She could see everything. She saw villages and homes. She saw jungles and mountains. She knew what was happening in the oceans. While seeing the ocean, she saw an interesting event: she saw Guru Nanak Dev ji’s form in the ocean. The great Sikh from Lahore, Mansukh Shah was in a ship. The ship was about to be in trouble. He did the Simran of Guru Nanak Dev ji with love: “oh Compassionate One, complete Guru, Protector of the Weak, please come and help me, quickly. Where no one can help, you, the Master of the Universe, helps everyone. Please take me to Sangladeep. Please take me to the Island.” Guru ji went to help his Sikh in the ocean. He is the Omniscient One. The maid saw Guru ji take the ship to the shores of Sangladeep. The ship reached the island safely. Bhai Mansukh Shah ji was happy. The maid saw this whole event.
The maid ran to Mata Tripta ji and said: “I didn’t wake him up. He is gone to save a ship. When he finishes his task for his Sikh, when he takes the ship across to the shore, I will go and wake him up. I speak the truth. There is no lie in this.” Mata Tripta ji heard this and got angry. Mata ji went herself. She shook Guru ji and woke him up. Guru ji got up and ate the food. After eating, Mata ji said: “listen son, seeing your state in such a way, the maid made fun of you to me. She said that you were gone to take a ship across the ocean. For this reason, she didn’t wake you up.” Mata ji said this to the Master of the Universe. The Omniscient One understood what happened. In order to not reveal himself to his mother, he said: “she is crazy. Don’t listen to what she says.” After saying this, Guru ji went to the jungles to sit in solitude.
The maid became crazy, as Guru ji had said those words. She lost her senses. She wasn’t aware of her body anymore. Till she was alive, she was not aware of her body. She had achieved Mukti. She had seen the Brahmgyaan. When she left her body, she went to the home of Hari, Akaal Purakh and received Mukti.
1-44 Bhai Mansukh goes to Raja Shivnaab in Sangladeep
Sri Guru ji’s feet are like the complete Diva. My heart is the home, this Diva lights my heart. I write this Katha with research in a great way. The gem of the Bedis lights my heart by giving me the strength to do the right research.
Sri Bala Sandhur Vaach..
Oh Guru Angad Dev ji, listen to the Katha of Bhai Mansukh Shah ji. Listen oh Greatly Praised One. Bhai Mansukh ji had reached Sangladeep. There was a really big city there, where really rich people lived in great numbers. The city had beautiful markets. Bhai Mansukh ji took his merchandise to sell it there. Raja Shivnaab lived there, who lived by the Dharma and did great Karmas; he did Upasana of The Saligrama and kept the Ekadashi fasts, twice a month. The people of the whole city kept the fasts as well. Nobody ate food on the Ekadashi days. They bathed at sunrise and marked their bodies with Tilaks. The Raja lived in this way and so did his subjects. Bhai Mansukh ji came to this city. He brought his merchandise and set up a Dhera in a nice place. Bhai Mansukh ji lived by the Sikhi traditions of Guru Nanak Dev ji. As Guru ji commanded, that’s how the Sikh lived everyday. He bathed in the last watch of the night (2 am) and did Keertan with a focused mind. He had written down the Shabads of Guru ji. He read and recited them with love and devotion. When the sun would rise, he would make Panchamrit Prashaad and perform the Ardaas. He would distribute the Prashaad to the people who were near him. He would then eat it himself. In this way, he did this everyday. He then did his business with great profit. In this evening, he recited Gurbani. He would recite it in love, which gave joy. He meditated on the form of Guru Nanak Dev ji. He did this two times a day, which destroyed the pain. The people of the city saw this and laughed. The fools slandered him. They didn’t know the righteous path. They said: “he calls himself a Hindu but is without the Dharma. He does not do Pooja or keep the fasts. He doesn’t do the traditions of Pooja or Seva of the Saligrama. He does not mark his forehead with a Tilak.” The whole city saw him as a Baaniya (merchant) who had fallen from the Dharma.
The people of the city went to the Raja and said: “a person has come from across the ocean who calls himself a Hindu but doesn’t do the traditions. He does some new traditions.” The Raja heard this and was surprised. He called for Bhai Mansukh ji by sending a person.
Bhai Mansukh ji got the message. He took a coconut and a Rajitpun with him. He met the Raja and placed the coconut and Rajitpun in front of the Raja as a sign of respect. He bowed to the Raja and sat down. He said: “Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji.” The Raja said to him: “you call yourself a Hindu but you don’t follow the Dharma. You don’t do the bathing after sunrise, Pooja of the Thakurs or keep any fasts. You don’t have any abstinence of foods or keep any traditions. You don’t apply the Tilaks. Your traditions are different. Who taught you these unrighteous ways?” Bhai Mansukh ji said: “listen Raja, don’t doubt this. This world is like a tree. Mukti is at the top, like a ripe fruit. There are two ways to get the fruit: the way of the bird and the way of the ant. The saints and the Granths say the same thing: the fruit can be attained by the way of a bird or an ant. Both travel in ways of love. Whoever the Satguru meets, that person flies quickly to the fruit like a bird. The ones who don’t meet the complete Satguru, the fruit is really far for them as they walk the speed of an ant. It is hard to walk that path for them. You keep the fasts of Ekadashi and abstain on the 15th day; desire, anger, food and drink; you only abstain from them only on 1 day. The saints always abstain from these, everyday. They keep their mind humble and consume less. They eat less and sleep less. They talk less. Desire and anger cannot overpower such a person. You only do this every 15 days; the fast of Ekadashi. The fast of Ekadashi is always in the hearts of the saints. The fast you talk about, that’s how it is. Now listen about the bathing: understand this, there are great rewards in bathing in the last watch of the night (2 am). It is like the reward of donating gold of 1 Bhaar. The one who bathes at around 4 am, it is the same as donating 3,200 Tolas of silver. The one who bathes at half an hour before sunrise, is like donating 1.25 Maunds of milk. The one who bathes at sunrise, that is like donating 1 Maund of water. The one who bathes after sunrise, they are not rewarded for anything. The only reward is that your body is clean and pure. To bathe during the last watch of night is the ancient traditions. The Vedas and Shastras say this, not me. If you doubt what I say, you want everyone to bathe after sunrise; then listen to me with a good wisdom: this is the tradition of Karam Kaand. Bathing after sunrise, they only do the Karmas. Understand this, this is only actions. To bathe in the last watch of the night and doing the Simran of the Naam with love, there is great glory in waking up at this time of the night. The Vedas and Shastras say this too. In regards to doing the Pooja of stones, listen to me with focus: the stones don’t eat or drink anything. They don’t speak or give wisdom. What rewards are there in doing their Seva? The Satguru is the complete Compassionate Being. I do his Seva and receive rewards. He has taken an Avatar in a human body to save the world. He came in Kaliyuga. His words are illuminating like the sun. His words destroy the darkness. He gives the path to the bird, to get the fruit of Mukti. He took me close to the fruit with joy. The other Karmas are with ego. The Japp, Tapp and fasts; these Dharmas are like walking the walk of an insect. I can show you that path too. For many births, a person does many good karmas. The filth of the Antiskaran (Mun, Bhuddi, Chit, Ahankaar) is slowly washed away. By meeting the Guru, wisdom is received. The bonds of the world are then destroyed. In this way, do this to get to the Mukti fruit.”
Bhai Mansukh ji told the Raja the Katha of how to rid one’s ego. He recited the Bani of Guru ji. The Raja’s heart was pierced with the Bani, like an injured soldier pierced by a bullet. The small gun can’t cause a wound. Without penance, one’s words are nothing. Like a full car, wherever it goes, it breaks the road, leaving tracks. The empty car rides the road without marks. The Manmukh’s words are like an empty car. Bhai Mansukh ji was a Gurmukh who had earned his Dharma. His words effected the Raja’s thinking. The Raja agreed with Bhai Mansukh ji. Raja Shivnaab was amazed. He knew in his heart that Bhai Mansukh ji spoke the truth. He thought to himself: “he has met the true Guru. He received the Gyaan and destroyed his doubts.” He said to Bhai Mansukh ji: “you are Dhan, Shah ji. You are the mine of virtues. What is the name of the Guru, whose Bani you have recited? The one whom you stayed close to and received the Gyaan of the Jeev and Ishwar; who is such a person?” Bhai Mansukh ji heard this and said: “Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji is the destroyer of all the sins.” The love overflowed in both of their hearts. Bhai Mansukh ji’s throat swelled with emotion. His eyes shed tears as he said his Guru’s name. Raja Shivnaab shed tears as well, hearing the Satguru’s name. After collecting their patience, Bhai Mansukh Shah ji recited more Gurbani, the mine of virtues. Raja Shivnaab was filled with love and wanted to do the Darshan of Guru ji. He heard the beautiful words of Sri Guru ji. The Raja said: “I would like to do the Darshan of the Guru. Do this favour on this poor (by virtue of mind) person. Make an effort so I can meet Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji, the complete Guru. I will go with you right now, oh merchant. I will leave my kingdom and go with you. I want to meet the Guru and destroy the doubts of my body’s existence. I want the wisdom and wish to receive the Mukti. The Guru’s words have pierced my heart. I am not calm without meeting him now. The merchandise that you brought to sell, I will buy it all from you. Let’s leave right away. Don’t waste time. Take me to where Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji is.” The fortunate Raja had the love illuminating in his heart. Bhai Mansukh Shah ji saw the love and said: “you don’t need to do all of this. Don’t leave your kingdom or your land. If you go with me, it will take many days to meet the Master of the Universe. If you think of him here with love, you will get the Darshan in a few days. Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji is omniscient. He knows every heart. He is aware of every place in this universe. He will see your pure love and give you his Darshan without delay.” The Raja said: “how will I know of him? Tell me his caste and family name. What does he look like? How does he dress? Where does the Ocean of Virtues live?” Bhai Mansukh ji said: “it is hard to describe him. He is a Kshatriya of the Bedi clan. He is from Talwandi. He worked in Sultanpur. He quit the Modikhana now. He took on the form of Fakirs. He is like the actor who changes clothes all the time.”
The Raja noted down the description of Guru ji. Love arose in his heart. It was a beautiful love. He asked about the Gurbani and noted that down as well. The days Bhai Mansukh ji lived there, he visited the Raja Everyday and said the praises of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji. The Raja became more anxious to see Guru ji. He suffered like a fish without water. When Bhai Mansukh ji sold all his merchandise and went to the wise Raja. He spoke to the Raja with his hands folded: “I wish to go back to my land.” The Raja showed him a lot of love, like the Jeev loves his body. He said: “you have done a great favour for me. My body will be a success if I see the Guru. I won’t be able to describe the day when I see the Compassionate One. You used to come to me everyday and say the praises of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji. Without the Darshan, I am depressed. When will he come and complete my wish?” Bhai Mansukh ji gave hope to the Raja: “listen Raja: your mind is pure. Stay determined on your goal. The Compassionate One will come soon.” Bhai Mansukh ji and the Raja bowed to each other with love. Bhai Mansukh ji left by doing the Simran of the Breaker of Bonds.
The Raja did the Simran of Guru ji, day and night. He was fortunate. Getting up, sitting down, and walking around, he said the name of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji. He said: “please give me your Darshan, oh Guru ji. I am like the peacock. When will you come to me like the rainclouds? My heart calls to you like the Chatrik, thirsty for the Swanti drop. My eyes are desperate for your Darshan; like the Chakor awaits the moon. When will you show me your body? I heard of your glories that you are compassionate on the poor. I am poor from the mind. I wish for your Darshan.” In this way, the Raja wanted to see Guru ji, day and night. The desire grew like the branches of a tree. He let go of his sleep at night. During the day, he ran around without eating or drinking. He only lived by the support of love. His eyes kept shedding tears. He spent many days like this. His good Karma came to fruition.
1-45 Guru ji Leaves Talwandi
Sri Guru ji’s feet are like the Kalapbrish which are always the mine of joy. The heart in which they reside in, problems and poverty cannot exist there. Sri Guru ji gives them Mukti.
Sri Bala Sandhur Vaach..
As the Raja became drenched in love, he was fortunate. When the Fakirs heard of the Raja’s state, they came to the Raja’s city and called themselves “Nanak.” They said to everyone that they were in fact Nanak. When the Raja heard this, he quickly came to the Fakirs and sat near them to relieve his doubts. The Fakirs did not have any Gyaan so they couldn’t relieve the Raja’s doubts. The Raja thought about all this: “I should test them all.” The Raja called all of the beautiful women in his city and said to him: “whichever foreigner that comes to our city and is dressed like a Fakir; calls himself a saint; go and do his Seva and night. Find out if the saint is real or not. If you see such a saint that is true, come to me and tell me about him.” The prostitutes heard this and started their tasks.
When a Fakir would come to the city, the women would dress up and go to the saint. The sides of their eyes were like arrows. Their eyebrows were like bows. Whoever would see them, they would be pierced. The fake saints would lose their patience and their Dharma. The women were so beautiful that Devatas and strong Munnis would lose their chastity. What are the weak men of Kaliyuga in front of them? Many Fakirs lost their abstinence with the women. They lost their Dharma and stained their caste. Hindus, Turks, Tappis or Brahamachaaris; they all lost their patience seeing the beautiful women. The women said to the Raja: “we have not seen a complete saint yet. Kamadeva has emptied out the chastity and truth from their hearts.” The Raja heard this and thought to himself: “it is Kaliyuga. Nobody is complete. Only Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji is complete. Nobody else. The other Fakirs are slaves to the 5 vices.” The Raja thought of Guru ji and took deep breaths. His face began to go pale as the days passed. His eyes shed tears. In this way, love pulled on Guru ji’s thought.
Guru Nanak Dev ji felt the Raja’s love and thought of blessing him. Guru ji decided to go and see the Raja, who was drenched in love. Guru ji could not tolerate his servant’s suffering. Guru ji was tied to the rope of love. The Raja kept pulling on the rope. One day, Guru ji was sitting in the jungle, just outside of Talwandi. Guru Angad Dev ji, I went to Guru ji with Bhai Mardana ji. We bowed to Guru ji and sat with him. The Diva of the Bedis spoke: “let’s go and see the world. Let’s roam the world. The Parmeshwar has made many lands. Some people have different natures. In some places, Rakshishes live. Some people are Dharmic and some are sinners. Some are in pain and some live in joy. Some do the Kathas of Vedas and Puranas. Some read the Quran. There are many languages in the world. Come with me if you wish to see this all.” Baba Mardana ji said: “Prabhoo ji, you are omnipotent and the ocean of virtues. Wherever you wish to go, you can go. We are always behind you. You are the Prabhoo. Where would we go, leaving you?” Listen Guru Angad Dev ji, giver of Mukti, listen to Guru Nanak Dev ji’s Katha. I said to Guru ji: “oh Compassionate One, keep us with you all the time. There is no other master like you.” Guru ji heard this and was happy. It was evening and so Guru ji got up and came back to the village at his home. His face was radiant like the lotus. I went to home and said to my father: “Guru Nanak Dev ji is going somewhere. I will go with him. I love him deeply.”
Guru Angad Dev ji, we got ready to go but Guru Nanak Dev ji’s parents found out. Guru ji’s parents lost senses of their bodies. They were worried in their hearts. They were humbled but there was nothing they could do. They went to Bhai Rai Bhullaar ji and cried to him. Guru ji’s Mata was really worried. Guru ji’s father and Chacha ji went to. They spoke with humility: “you love Nanak, keep him here as you think it’s good.” They took a deep breath. Bhai Rai Bhullaar ji was drenched in compassion. Rai Bhullaar ji sent a servant named “Umaida,” and said: “go to the Tappa, the son of Kalu, and make requests to him with humility. Ask him to be compassionate and give us his Darshan.”
Umaida went to Guru ji and said: “Tappa ji, the Rai Bhullaar ji folds his hands and says: please come and show me your beautiful form once. You can go where you wish to then.” Guru ji heard this and let go of his seat. He went with the servant to meet Rai Bhullaar ji. Rai Bhullaar ji saw the Pritam and was blooming like a lotus. He got up in respect for Guru ji. Guru ji ran to the Rai so he didn’t need to get up. The Rai bowed to Guru ji with humility. He spoke his requests: “please sit higher than me. Your father and mother are depressed and worried. They are drowning in the ocean of attachment. How can they cross this? You are omniscient. You know everyone’s pain. Give them the Gyaan and take them across the waves of attachment. Otherwise, stay with them and don’t go anywhere. They will see you and be in patience and joy.” Guru ji said: “Rai ji, there is a reason why I need to go. What you say in regards to giving them Gyaan, in due time, they will have the Gyaan. They will break their bonds of the world. These relationships are like passengers on the same ship. Meeting and separation happens with time. The Gyaani stays the same in both situations. He is never in sorrow nor in joy.” The Rai said: “your face is like the lotus. Your commands are like the nectar of the flower. My mind is like the bee who wishes for the nectar. I wish for the radiance of your blessings. My mind is like the Papeeha who wishes for your words that are like the Swanti drop. Your tongue is like the cloud and your words are like the Swanti drops. Command us, so our Seva is a success. I did not do your Seva properly. My mind is not calm for this reason. Stay here so I can see your feet. I wish to hear your words all this time. My mind will be radiant and happy. Oh Master, Giver of Mukti, you are omnipotent but you always stay hidden. You are the complete form of Parmatma. You are pure. You are the Parmeshwar. I can see you.” Guru ji heard this and said: “just as the shadow is always with the body, that is how you are always with me. Make your mind still. You have love and devotion in your heart. It is Akaal Purakh’s command, who no one can compare to. It is not up to me to stay here. That is in Kartaar’s hands.” The Rai was in bliss hearing Guru ji. He bowed to Guru ji’s feet by folding his hands. His bonds were all broken. His wisdom was like a bee, taking the nectar from Guru ji’s feet. He went quiet as he was in bliss. He knew of his real form in his Aatma. He received the complete bliss. The Rai looked at Guru ji’s face and was filled with bliss, seeing the form of the Govind. He was blessed deeply. There was no one more beloved to Guru ji. Guru ji got up and took leave.
Guru ji came back home. It was night time. Rai Bhullaar ji did not want to separate from Guru ji. He wanted to see Guru ji all the time but he couldn’t force Guru ji to stay. Rai Bhullaar ji thought of Guru ji day and night. He wouldn’t forget Guru ji, ever. Pitha Kalu ji and Chach Lalu ji spoke to Rai Bhullar ji. Rai Bhullaar ji said: “Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji is the complete being. He is the Parmeshwar. You have done great deeds in your last birth. You were rewarded with such a great son. You will receive the Mukti slowly, by yourself. You are Dhan for having such a son. You did such a Tapp to get such a son. Your family is blessed. Don’t be in doubt, even for a second. Your bonds will break from the attachments. The worry of mind, let it go. Do your daily tasks amongst yourselves. See your son as the Sat, Chet Anand Avatar. We can’t keep him in our home.” Guru ji’s parents had some hope, hearing this. They came back home.
Mata ji said to Guru ji: “come son. Get up and eat your food in the kitchen.” Guru ji went to his mother and ate the food. Mata ji saw the Lotus-faced and was happy in her heart. She said to him: “son, I can’t control you. You can do as you wish.” Guru ji casted his blessed vision and spoke words to destroy the Agyaan. The deep bonds of attachment of the world, they were all broken. Mata ji was now eligible and deserving of Nirvana, Mukti. Mata ji was given contentment. Guru ji then went to his father. Pitha ji said: “whatever you think is good, do that. How long will my words hold right? You are our only son but are leaving us now. Why do you think this is good?” Pitha ji said other words to convince Guru ji’s heart. Guru ji looked towards his father with compassion. He destroyed his father’s attachment bonds as well. It was like a bird pouncing on its prey, all of a sudden, the prey could not get up them; Pithaji’s mind could not get up them. His mind was calm. He couldn’t speak then. He was in bliss. He remained quiet. Guru ji laid down on his beautiful bed. He was the giver of Mukti. He slept the night.
When it was the last watch of the night, Guru ji let go of his laziness and got up. He was the giver of joy to his servants. He left his home to take a bath. The light of the moon is radiant in the whole world. Guru ji was going to travel to spread the light of Bhagti in the world. None of the wheels of the wells were running. He traveled around and did not get water for a bath. He said from his mouth: “there is no Sarovar here. The place is without water. No well wheel is running.” Rai Bhullaar ji heard Guru ji’s words. Rai Bhullaar ji thought to himself: “I will have a Sarovar built by the name of Nanak. I will start it today. I will see my life as a success.” He wanted to make a pool for Guru ji. Rai Bhullaar ji had the Sarovar built in a few days. The Rai looked at the Sarovar and thought to himself: “the pool is now built for bathing. The pure Guru will bathe here now. Sins are washed away by him.” When the Sarovar was ready, Guru ji called me and had me bathe in it. After taking a bath, Guru ji met his family and started his travels.
When the night was only an hour remaining, Guru Nanak Dev ji left Talwandi. The both of us left with the ocean of joy. Bhai Mardana ji and I went with him. He was the Chetna, Ananad and Sat form. He was the Gobind, the giver of Mukti and the destroyer of pain.
I, Kavi Santokh Singh, am always a sacrifice unto the lotus feet of Guru ji.
Guru ji travelled slowly and beautifully. He rested his feet slowly on to the ground. Bhai Mardana ji and I walked behind Satguru ji. To spread the flow of the river of Bhagti, The King Guru Nanak ji wanted to bless the world. This river was pure. That place is the greatest which purifies one and makes one humble. The water was Keertan, which flowed all the time. The waves were the praises of the name of the Prabhoo. Satsang was the mountain from where the river flows. The doubt and Agyaan are the strong banks of the river. To break them, the Bhagti is great. The trees are the sins of Kaliyuga. The flow of the river would uproot these trees. The Sikhs of the Satguru are the life forms in the river. They don’t wish to leave the water. The current of the love flows strong and fast. Maya is the filth in the water. The Dyana on the lotus feet would purify the dirt and make the water clean and cool. The real form is the ocean, in which Bhagti immerses into. The river is calm then. One does not take birth again, nor does one die again. One is still then. Bliss exists. There is no fear of death. one goes to Sach Khand by this river. Satguru ji started this river. Whoever let this river go, they are unfortunate, stuck in the doubt, like a deer seeing a mirage. They wander the world, chasing the false pleasures. Guru ji made this river which spread everywhere. It is achieved with great fortunes. Kavi Santokh Singh does Simran of such a Guru.
