Poorbaardh 1.26 – 1.30

1-26 The Birth of Baba Sri Chand ji

Gurbani, your eyes are like the petals of a Lotus flower.  Your body is pure like the Ganga.  It gives prosperity to all.  I bow to your feet.

Sri Bala Sandhur Vaach..

Sir Guru Nanak Dev ji stayed at the Modikhana all the time.  Doing his Darshan, one’s sins would burn away.  If he looked at someone with compassion, they would be saved from this world ocean.  One day, Guru ji went to his sister’s home.  His face was beautiful like the moon.  It was radiant.  His face was without fault.  He walked slowly.  The glory of his feet could not be described.  Bebe Nanaki ji was happy to see her brother.  It was like she received the bliss of the whole world.  Tulsa saw Guru ji come and quickly laid out a bed for Guru ji sit on.  Bebe Nanaki ji sat close to Guru ji and said: “I am grateful that you have come without an invitation.  Your feet made my house pure.  I see that I am blessed today.  I am always wishing to see your face.  You come as soon as I remember you.”  Guru ji heard these sweet words and said: “see me as your servant.  Whenever you wish to see me, I, your servant, come as soon as I can.  I don’t delay.  You are older than I me.  For this reason, I wish to obey you always.  Your love makes me do this.  I can’t disobey you.  My radiance is because of you.  The net of the world, the whole world is caught in its tasks.  This Modikhana is a net as well.  Only the saints are safe from it.  One can’t come out of the tasks.  Without meeting the saints, one cannot escape the nets of the world.  The wise people say this.”  Bebe Nanaki ji said: “you can say this to an unwise person.  I know that you are the saviour of the World.  You are the Avatar.  Don’t try to put me in doubt.  I know who you are.”  Guru ji said: “you know what you know because the Parmeshwar is compassionate towards you.”  Bebe Nanaki ji saw Guru ji happy and said: “Brother, listen to my request: think about it.  Please give me permission to speak.  I wouldn’t say anything without your permission.”  The saviour of the servants saw the humility of his sister and was happy.  He said: “say what you wish to without any doubt.  Say it.  I will follow it.  I can’t disobey your words.”  Bebe Nanaki ji heard this and said: “your wife is the daughter of a great family.  Respect her.  If you don’t, when her parents come, they speak harsh words.  I have to listen to their words quietly.  I can’t give them a response.  Your personality is of a saint’s.  You are drenched in compassion and altruistic behaviours.  You work for others.  Don’t make your wife upset.  She is of a good family.”  Guru ji heard this and said: “what item does she not have?  Whatever she needed or wanted, that has been given to her.  I never made her upset.”  Bebe Nanaki ji said: “you are the beloved of the poor and weak.  You give donations to all.  Why would your wife be in shortage?  Listen to this though; speaking to someone with respect is the best.  The wise people say that if a husband speaks to his wife with love, that is the most joyful thing.  If a husband is alive and doesn’t speak to his wife; even if the home is in abundance, the wife is not happy.  It’s like the husk of the rice.”  Guru ji said: “Sister, I will do as you say.  Your command is what I always accept.  Let’s let this go.  Let’s talk about something else.”  Bebe Nanaki ji heard this and said: “my wish is to see a son in your home.  This will give me joy.  When I play with my nephew, I will be really happy.  I wish for you to have a son.”  Guru ji smiled and said: “you have desires?  You are the Bhagat of Kartaar.  Since you have made a wish, the Parmeshwar always loves his Bhagats; Parmeshwar will fulfill your wish.”  The ocean of peace said this and got up.

Guru ji came back to his Modikhana.  Bebe Nanaki ji was really happy.  It was as though a poor person got the 9 Niddhis.  She thought to herself: “my brother’s words are never false.  I have seen this many times.  My wish will be fulfilled.  My brother is the Truth.  His words are True as well.”  The destroyer of pain and giver of joy (like a cloud) started going to his home from that day onwards.  His face was blooming like a lotus.  His teeth were like crystals.  From then on, he would stay at the Modikhana during the day and went home at night.  His words would burn the pain.  Joy and sorrow were the same to him.  Pain and pleasure did not affect him.  He was in a single state.

His glory grew in Sultanpur.  Men and women praised him: “he gives the poor many donations.  He is very generous.  He has no greed for money.  There is no one else like him.  Whoever comes to him, they don’t leave empty-handed.  The wise say that even Inder looks for the best time to give but Guru Nanak Dev ji never thinks about the time.  He just gives.  His mind is soft and compassionate.  He destroys the pain of others.  Whoever comes to him, their pain is gone.  He is always calm and cool.  He is always in the Truth.  Not a single bad vice has every touched him.”  The slanderers on the other hand, who didn’t know his greatness, would say: “this Modi who gives donations will run away one day.  He will destroy the Navaab’s money and run away.  Otherwise he will be arrested.  Navaab Daulat Khan will arrest him.  The Turks are harsh.  The Navaab won’t leave him.”  The slanderers would go to Daulat Khan and say: “your Modi is losing your money.  Why don’t you supervise him?  He will run away one day.  When he runs away, he won’t give you the accounts.  You won’t be able to do anything then.”  Daulat Khan would get influenced by the slanderers and get upset.  He would call Guru ji and ask to balance the accounts: “let’s balance the accounts.  Then I can give you the money for your work.”  Munshi Jado Rai would balance the accounts.  There would always be a profit.  The slanderers would be embarrassed then.  Guru ji would take the money of the profit home.  The slanderers would be embarrassed and burn in their hearts.  There was nothing they could do.  It was like a firefly’s light living under the sun.  The thieves never like the moonlight.  They were upset in their minds.  They couldn’t do anything to the moon.  The slanderers were amazed at how Guru ji was always in a profit: “he is always giving his money away but he is always in a profit.”

Guru ji’s glory was radiant like the moon.  His praise was the moonlight.  His friends were like the Chakor.  The slanderers were like the Chakvas, who hate the moon.  Some slandered Guru ji.  Some praised him.  Guru ji was the same with all.  The unwise could not know his reality.  Guru ji was like the sun that destroyed the darkness.  Everyone was the same for him.

The Sikhs with Guru Angad Dev ji questioned Bhai Bala ji with love: “Guru ji did good for all.  Why did people want bad for him?”

Sri Bala Sandhur Vaach..

Listen all with focus.  This is the history of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji.  It is really pure.  This is a precedent for the world.  I will tell you.  There was a beautiful Mango tree that was bending because of its fruit.  A traveller came under the mango tree.  He was anxious because of the heat.  He was sweating and tired.  He walked a long way and was exhausted.  He saw the shade under the mango tree and sat under it.  He was in bliss in the shade.  He saw the nice mangoes and got them by striking the branches with a stick.  The Mango tree tolerated the strikes of the stick but it wasn’t upset.  It instead, gave the traveller its fruit.  It was altruistic, even though the person struck it with a stick.  The traveller had no power to kill the tree but he still thought of cutting the tree and making doors and furniture from it.  These thoughts are of a ungrateful person.  This was his personality.  Whatever one’s personality is, they see generous people according to them.  They can’t change.  The generous is never ungrateful and the ungrateful is never generous.  The ungrateful person is like a snake.  They will drink milk and still bite the giver.  The one who hurts a generous person, they go to Hell.  The ones who only think of giving, they don’t think bad of anyone.  They are happy seeing others happy.  They can’t tolerate others in pain.  They have compassion.  Their hearts are soft, calm and serene.  They are happy here and in the next world.  Jealousy, hatred and having anger is what the good people fear.  Guru Angad Dev ji, listen to the history.

Guru ji spent his time with love.  He was the giver of joy.  Mata Sulakhani ji, the wise, stayed in Guru ji’s command.  Whatever he said, she did.  She did his Seva with love.  The giver of Mukti and “Kamal Badan” (lotus-like body) would come and sit in the home in the evening.  Mata ji would take a fan from the maids and fan Guru ji herself, slowly.  She would clean his feet with cool water.  She did this with love.  She would wipe his feet with a cloth.  She served him everyday like this.  She wouldn’t let the maids or servants do the Seva.  Mata Sulakhani ji did the Seva with love, as her mother told her to do.  She destroyed her ego of being from a good and high-class family.  Beggars came to the home to ask for alms.  They would receive whatever they wished for.  They wouldn’t leave empty-handed.  Mata ji would give the beggars alms.  This made her happy.  She did this just like Guru ji did at the Modikhana.  As she did this, she experienced a deep joy in giving.  She gave the same way as Guru ji did.  She did what made Guru ji happy.  She obeyed Guru ji with her body and mind.  Just as a crystal placed in front of a red cloth, it becomes red; that is how Sri Guru ji’s radiance made Mata Sulakhani ji into a donor.  Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji was happy with his wife.  With great compassion, Guru ji stayed in his home at night.  He went to work in the morning.

After some time, the love between the wife and husband flourished into the expected arrival of their firstborn.  Mata Sulakhani ji was pregnant.  A deep sense of joy came into her heart.  Her sorrows were all gone.  Guru ji was 32 years old at that time (according to the Samprada, he was around 25).  The giver of joy was 32 (25) and saved thousands.  His Simran would cut the bonds of Jumms.  Mata Sulakhani ji gave birth to the Parambridh, Brahmgyaani Baba Sri Chand ji, the giver of joy.  The whole family was really happy.  Bebe Nanaki ji was really happy.  Her body could not contain her joy.  It was like an ill person getting Amrit to rid of his/her pain.  Celebrations began.  Bebe Nanaki ji had garlands of flowers hang from the doors and windows.  She did other celebrations as well.  The beggars came to beg.  Joy spread and sorrow was destroyed.  Bebe Nanaki ji donated to the poor.  She saw herself as fortunate.  Many came to congratulate her.  New types of joys spread.

Mata Sulakhani ji raised Baba Sri Chand ji with love.  She bathed his body with pure water.  She scrubbed his beautiful body.  She kept looking at his beautiful face.  His face was a garden of the flowers that destroyed pain.  The beautiful women of the city came, who had beautiful eyes.  They saw Baba Sri Chand ji’s face and became happy.  They gave him many blessings.  They said: “may you be happy.”

Bebe Nanaki ji sent a message to Talwandi for her father.  It was the most joyful news.  When Pitha Kalu ji heard about the birth of his grandson, he was really happy.  Mata Tripta ji was extremely happy.  It was like the peacocks seeing the rain clouds; like lotus seeing the sun; like the poor achieving the philosopher’s stone; like a hungry person getting food; like a thirsty person getting water; like a Sadhoo getting rewarded for their Sadhna; like a raja winning his enemy’s land; like a Chatrik getting the Swanti drop; like a Chakor seeing the moon; that’s how the parents of Guru ji were.

Pitha Kalu ji and Mata Tripta ji came to Sultanpur.  Guru ji came to bow to their feet when he got news of their arrival.  Mata ji was really happy to see her son.  She gave him love.  She kissed his head.  She then saw her grandson’s lotus-like face.  She gave donations like a king.  She met Bebe Nanaki ji with love.  Her thirst was gone.  Mehta Kalu ji was happy to see the Modikhana.  He was happy to see his son who was running a great business.  He thought: “my son is doing good.  He will be richer than I am.  He has gathered a lot of stuff in the home.  People praise him.  I am praised because of him.  He gives a lot of donations to the poor.”  Mata ji and Pitha ji stayed for some days.  They were happy to see their son and grandson.  They then left to go home.

When Baba Sri Chand ji was a year old, Mata Sulakhani ji was happy to see him.  Guru ji knew what was in Bebe Nanaki ji’s heart.  Bebe Nanaki ji wanted the task of raising her nephew.  Guru Nanak Dev ji said to her: “take this child and raise him.  Don’t think of anything else in your heart.”  Bebe Nanaki ji was really happy to hear this.  It was as though a poor person getting the Kalapbrish while staying in the home.  She saw the lotus face of Baba Sri Chand ji and gave him a lot of love.  She raised Baba Sir Chand ji.  Baba Sri Chand ji was named.  Bebe Nanaki ji took her nephew in her lap.  She was filled with bliss.  She knew that Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji was happy and that’s why he gave Baba Sri Chand ji to her.

1-27 Munsukh and Bhageerath

I take the sanctuary of the feet of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  His toe nails shine like diamonds.  He is the root of all.  His feet take one away from the cycle of birth and death.  I bow to his feet.  May he bless me.

Sri Bala Sandhur Vach.

Near Sultanpur there was a village named Mailseeha.  There lived a person there, who worshipped the Kali Mata, named Bhageerath.  As Bhai Bhageerath ji learned Gurmat from Guru Nanak Dev ji, I will tell you the Katha with love.

Bhai Bhageerath did the Seva of Kali with faith and devotion.  His Pooja was pure.  He did it with cleanliness.  He worshipped her with love.  He did Simran of Bhawani: “the mother of the world, Jagdamba, you are the mine of the 3 Gunas; you have the 8 arms that hold shiny Shasters.  Your teeth are shiny.  Your eyes are red.  You have a garland of skulls around your neck.  Oh Kali, you breath fire that is fierce.  You mount the lion.  You protect the saints.  You kill the demons, the Daynts.  You killed Mudh, Kaitubh and Mahikhasur.  You destroyed Dhoomraach, Chand and Mund.  You drank the blood of Rakatbheej.  You destroyed the powerful Sunbh and Nasunbh.  You bless fearlessness to all 3 Loks.  You are worshiped by all.  You destroy their sorrow.  You are the reason for the universe.  You are the Virgin.  You are Uma (Parvati), Rama (Lakshmi) and Baani (Sarasvati).  Jai Devi!  Jai Chandi Kapaali!  Jai Jai Ambay, the one with the long arms.  Jai Durga, the killer of the corrupt, Gauri.  Brahma and Shiva and Vishnu do your Simran.  You are the creator, the sustainer and the destroyer.  You are without fault.  You kill the sinners.  You kill the armies and give them pain.  You wield the sword and destroy Agyaan, ignorance.  You give joy and kill the demons.  You give radiance to the sun.  I bow to you.  I bow to you who destroys pain.  You are infinite.  You are wise and the blesser.  You give joy to all.  You are Sarasvati.  You are the Maya of Vishnu.  You are the Jog Maya that was used to create the universe.  The Ishwar reflects into you.  I bow to you.  You are the form of all the Shasters.  You are omniscient.  You are the giver of boons.  Your arms are strong.  I bow to you, the most powerful.  You are radiant.”  In this way, Bhageerath would sing the praises of Kalika every morning.  He worshipped Kali Mata.

To destroy the darkness of Agyaan, Bhageerath ji wanted his Agyaan to go away, he did Simran, day and night to Kalika for this.  One day, he bathed and went to the Mandir.  He kept bowing to the Kali Mata.  He spent the whole day doing Seva.  He had love in his heart.  He stayed in the Mandir and didn’t want to go home.  It was midnight and then he got sleepy.  He fell asleep and dreamt of Chandika.  Chandika said to him: “my servant, you are great!  Your wish will be fulfilled.  Your Agyaan will be destroyed.  You will see your real form and receive the Aatam Gyaan.  You will achieve the great Gyaan and become Mukat.  Till your Karma remains for your body, go and serve the feet of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji.  He runs a shop in Sultanpur.  He hides his powers.  He is the Sri Kartaar Avatar himself.  He came to save the people of Kaliyuga.  Parmeshwar came himself.  He took on a body and came to the world.  Go and do his Darshan, who is the destroyer of pain.  Earn the success of your life from his Seva.  Have faith in your heart.”  After seeing this dream, Bhai Bhageerath ji’s eyes opened.  He began thinking of his dream.  Vairagya came into his heart.  He was detached from the world.  He had no attachments.  He was the Chaudhary of the village.  He left his status and his wealth.  He went to Sultanpur.  People tried to stop him but he didn’t.  The love came as a tsunami.  He couldn’t be stopped.  He came to Sultanpur.

With love in his heart, Bhai Bhageerath ji went to the shop where Guru ji was.  He saw a crowd of beggars there.  He was anxious and slipped through the crowd.  He fell to Guru ji’s feet like a stick.  He was anxious.  He lost the senses of his body.  The Master of the Universe understood why Bhai Bagheerath ji came to him.  Guru ji touched Bhai Bagheerath ji’s forehead.  He lifted him from his arms and had him sit.  He said sweet words to him: “by what wish have you come here for?  I will give you what you wish for.”  Bhai Bhageerath ji heard this and said: “you are omniscient.  You know why I am here, oh mine of virtues.  I will still tell you.  I am in your command.  I wish to stay in your sanctuary forever.  I am from Mailseeha.  That is where my home is.  I do the Upasana of Kali Devi.  The mother of the universe blessed me.  She gave me wisdom.  She told me to come here.  I have come to do the Seva of your feet.  I bow to you.  You give shelter to all.”  Guru ji heard the plea and was happy.  Guru ji showed Bhageerath the whole Myth of the world.  He then gave him his Seva.

Bhai Bhageerath ji did Guru ji’s Darshan everyday.  He washed Guru ji’s feet and wiped them with joy.  Just as Guru ji commanded him, he did it with joy.  Some time passed and Bhai Bhageerath ji had deep faith in his heart.

Baba Mardana ji came to Sultanpur to meet Guru Nanak Dev ji.  He bowed to Guru ji and said: “may you be glorious.”  The fortunate Mardana ji sat down and gave Guru ji the news of Talwandi.  Whatever Guru ji asked, Bhai Mardana ji responded and told him how everyone was doing.  Bhai Mardana ji then said his reason for coming: “listen Sire, you had said to me during your wedding that I should never ask for anything from anyone else except the Bedis.  I never have asked from anyone else.  I remember your words.  My household has been running well.  My daughter is to be married.  The expense will be big.  I don’t have money to do the marriage.  I have come to you for this reason.”  The giver of joy listened.  Bhai Bagheerath ji was nearby.  Guru ji said to Bhai Bhageerath ji: “you are wise.  Fulfill his task.  Write down what Mardana needs for the wedding.  Go to Lahore and get the items.  Those items won’t be found here.  Lahore is big.  Get the best things from there.  Stay in Lahore for only one night.  Come back quickly.”  Bhai Bhageerath ji bowed and wrote the items of need for the marriage from Bhai Mardana ji.  He took some money that was required, bowed to Guru ji’s feet and headed to Lahore.

Bhai Bhageerath ji soon reached Lahore.  There was a big shop there with a rich merchant.  His name was Munsukh Shah.  He was rich and a big businessman.  Bhai Bhageerath ji spoke to him by showing him the money.  Bhai Bhageerath ji gave him the list of items needed.  He said: “please give me these items.  I am only here for one night.  Please do this quickly.”  Bhai Munsukh ji heard this and accepted their request.  He respected him and had him sit with him.  He said: “it’s evening now.  Come and stay at my home.  In the morning, I will get you what you need.”  He read the list and said: “I have everything but the ivory choora will take some time.”  Bhai Bhageerath ji said: “listen Shahukaar.  This is not possible.  I won’t be able to stay another night in Lahore.  My life would be a failure then.”  The Shahukaar Munsukh ji said: “what does that mean?  Remove my doubt.  If a king had sent a person, he doesn’t say that his life would be a failure?”  Bhai Bagheerath ji said: “listen Shahukaar, my Guru is complete.  His words are never false.  His command is as such: he didn’t want me to stay a second night here.”  Bhai Munsukh ji heard this and said: “who is so strong in the fierce Kaliyuga?  There can’t be such a person.  What you say about your Guru, there can’t be such a person in Kaliyuga.”  Bhai Bhageerath ji said: “oh wise one, don’t doubt this.  The one whom I praise, don’t doubt him.  If you have faith in him, the bonds of the world will be broken.  He can break those bonds.  The Kartaar has come as an Avatar in Kaliyuga.  If your Karma comes to fruition, only those wise people can understand his greatness.  He lives like a normal person.  He works like others in his life.  He has the Brahmgyaan in his heart.  It is deep and not quantifiable.  He knows every heart.  He is omniscient.  He is the Master of the 14 Loks.  He commands all life.”  Bhai Munsukh ji heard this and wanted to meet such a saint.  He said: “if he shows me some power then I will become his devoted Sikh.  I have met many fake saints.  I wasn’t in peace after meeting them.  Love didn’t come into my heart.  Without seeing their power, I can’t trust anyone.”  Bhai Bhageerath ji said: “listen Shahukaar, remove your doubts.  Don’t argue.  Have faith in your heart and do his Darshan once.  Touch his feet with a request.  When you hear his words, you will be in peace.  You will receive wisdom of your Aatma.  You will know the truth of yourself.  If you want to see his powers, this is not a big thing for him.  Drops of water near the ocean are never scarce.  Have a deep faith and come with me.  The Satguru is omnipotent and complete.  He will fulfill your wish.”  Munsukh Shah heard this and wanted to go and see Guru Nanak Dev ji.  They both had discussions for a while.  They ate food and rested.

In the morning, both got up and bathed.  They packed the items for the wedding.  Bhai Munsukh Shah said: “there is a set of Choora in my home that is red and made of ivory.  It has gems in it.  I didn’t want to sell that but if Guru ji shows me a power, I will give this to him.  If you wish to buy some other Choora, you will have to wait another night.  It will be late for you.”  Bhai Bhageerath ji heard this and said: “you can do what you have proposed.”  The wise men packed the stuff and all headed towards Sultanpur.  Bhai Mardana ji was with them.

Bhai Munsukh ji said on the way: “if he says my name when I get there, if the House of Joy says my name, then I will believe.  I will see him as the truth and know that my pains will be destroyed.”  They spoke to each other in this way.  They soon reached Sultanpur.

Where the Compassionate One was, Bhai Bhageerath ji and Bhai Munsukh ji came there.  Guru Nanak Dev ji saw the two of them coming.  He spoke words to rid them of their doubts: “come Bhageerath, the Benevolent.  Your mind is like sandalwood.  You make others smell like you.  Munsukh’s name was weak before but now he wants to make his name true.  He want’s Sukh (joy) for his Mun (mind).  He came here for this reason.  Bhageerath, your mind is a saintly like the Bhringi insect (who makes other insects into one of them).”  When Munsukh heard his name, he was shocked.  He ran and grabbed Guru ji’s feet.  It was like a thirsty person getting water.  He placed the items for the wedding in front of Guru ji.  Bhai Bhageerath ji said: “you know everything Guru ji.  You are the giver of joy.  I don’t need to say anything.  You know that Bhai Munsukh has the Choora.  You are the one that purifies the sinners.  Munsukh wishes to be your Sikh.”  Sri Guru ji respected Bhai Munsukh ji.  He called Bhai Mardana ji and gave him all of the items for the wedding.  Bhai Mardana ji was happy to see everything.  Guru ji gave him money as well.  Bhai Mardana ji was really happy.  He headed back to Talwandi.  Bhai Mardana ji came to Talwandi and spread the praise of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  He said: “there is no one more benevolent and generous than Guru Nanak Dev ji.”

Bhai Munsukh ji stayed with Guru ji for 2 days.  His faith grew deeper.  One day, Guru Nanak Dev ji was sitting with Bhai Munsukh ji.  Bhai Munsukh ji bowed and said: “these bonds of attachment in the world are deep and blinding.  Please save me, a weak person, from drowning into it.  I am in pain, day and night.  My desires are not calm.  I come to your shelter with my mind, words and body.  Please give me wisdom seeing me as deserving.”  Guru ji spoke words of Mukti: “the ego and pride you have in your mind: my home, my wealth, my son, my wife, my family, my country, my horses, my elephants, my village, my army, my friends, my body and other items; the Jeev thinks of me and mine; there is always pain there.  All these things are the reason for pain.  The desires never stop.  The Jeev has tied himself/herself to the bonds of the world.  He/she takes the pain of the world.  Without the Guru, one does not realize the truth from the false.  This gives them pain and makes them take many births.  Ego makes you take more births.  Ego has blinded the Jeev into thinking that it is the body.  It does not see the Parmeshwar as the Aatma.  For this reason, let go of your “me” and “mine.”  Do the Simran of the Satnam with joy.  See and accept the will of the Prabhoo.  See it as sweet.  Don’t see others as your good friend.  Whatever Parmatma does, see it as your benefit.  Don’t blame the Prabhoo for anything.  Letting go of the ego, concentrating your mind in Simran and accepting the will; this is the pure path.  Practice these 3 things every day.  Your mind will be at peace then.  You will get all of the joys.  There will be no doubt in receiving Mukti.  Your false bonds of the world will be destroyed.”  Bhai Munsukh heard this and his Mun was at peace.  He engrained the wisdom in his heart.  He stayed in Sultanpur for some days.  His Agyaan was gone.  He wrote down the words of Guru ji.  He would read them and think about them.  He learned the Rehit from the Giver of Joy.  He did the Upasana of Guru ji’s feet.  He thought of his feet.  He had deep faith that: Guru ji was Kartar Parmeshwar.  He knew that he was the Parm Pitta Parmeshwar and the giver of Mukti.  He did Guru ji’s Pooja everyday by grinding sandalwood.  He offered flowers to him and bowed to Guruji’s feet.  He then went back to Lahore.  He meditated on Guru ji’s feet all the time.  He still did his Pooja.  Sometimes, he would come to Sultanpur to do the Darshan of the Flag of the Bedis.  He would stay for a month at a time.  He carried on his business in Lahore.

1-28 Guru Charan Mangal/ Going into the Vein (Bein River)

The one to wash away the filth of the mind; the one who listens to his servants; destroys obstacles; gives joy; Jai Jai to the root of prosperity.

Guru ji’s work as the Modi was great.  In this way, Guru ji worked for a long time.  Bhai Bala ji stayed with Guru ji for a long time.  He said Guru ji’s history to all the Sikhs.

Sri Bala Sandhur Vaach..

Guru ji weighed the items with a weighing scale.  He weighed more than required.  He gave more than asked.  He spoke soft words to all.  He was happy doing the worldly task.  He worked like regular people.  He sat in the shop everyday, looking radiant.  It was like Gyaan living in Bhagti.  The shop was Bhagti and Guru ji was the Gyaan.  His glory was like the moonlight.  It was pure.  The people that understand Guru ji’s secret, they saw his greatness.  They would come to his Sangat and listen to his sweet words.  The people saw his form and saw themselves as fortunate.  Guru ji saw the people as deserving.  He said words of Bhagti and Gyaan.  Why wouldn’t those people receive the Gyaan?  The master of the universe was giving them wisdom.  The people of Sultanpur received joy as they received the full Gyaan.  They let go of praising and slandering.  They saw everyone as the same.  The Gyaan made the army of bad wisdom run away.  In Kaliyuga, Guru ji saved them.  The hypocrisy that spread in the world, the people were getting strong.  Guru ji wanted to rid the hypocrites with the sword of Gyaan.  He wanted to plant the tree of Gyaan.  He thought about this: “to keep the mind humble, that is the tree; the love is the seed; the routine is the growth; Bhagti is the cover; compassion is the root; to see all as the same is the moat; the love of truth is the water; purity is the filter; patience is the protector; to stay steadfast in Dharma is the sprouting; to collect good deeds is the leaves growing; to keep the mind pure is the growing of the branches; the Hari’s name are the flowers; to see one’s own form is the fruit; the joy from this Gyaan is the taste; the sunshine is the death; the shade is the Amrit Mukti.  The attachment (animals) does not eat the plant because of the Satsangat protecting the tree.  The saints are the birds living on this tree of Gyaan.  To know one’s self is the fruit for the birds.  They become generous and give the fruit to others.

Baba Sri Chand ji was now 3 years and 6 months old.  Baba Lakhmi Das ji was in Mata ji’s womb.  To illuminate Sikhi, Guru ji decided to leave the Modikhana.  Listen to the Katha now.  Whoever has love for the Guru, listen carefully.  The reason why Guru ji took an Avatar, the Sat, Chetna and Anand form wanted to carry out his mission.  He wanted to show the Path of Mukti; the great wisdom.  Guru ji said to Bala ji: “I am going to reject the worldly honour and do what I please.  You should live at Bebe Nanaki ji’s home.”  Guru ji said this to Bhai Bhageerath ji as well: “only come sometimes here.  Otherwise stay in your home.  The work that I did before, don’t think about that.”

Varun Dev, the Ishwar of water, was told by Akaash Vani (of Parmeshwar’s message): “go to Guru Nanak Dev ji, who is the giver of joy.  Send him to me.”  Varun Dev bowed and accepted the command from Akaal Takhat.  It was like a tree getting water and growing many folds.  He thought to himself: “Parmeshwar came as Guru Nanak Dev ji.  I will get the opportunity to touch his feet.”  Varun Dev came to the Vein River.  Guru Nanak Dev ji’s home was near the Vein River.  He would come here to bathe everyday.  The wise Varun Dev waited for Guru Nanak Dev ji.  Guru ji would come at Amritvela 2:30am.  The peace had taken the form of Guru ji.  Guru ji had a servant with him (most likely Bhai Bhageerath ji).  The servant had Guru ji’s clothes.  Guru ji came to the shores of the Vein and did the Daattan to clean his teeth.  He took the Beri Daattan and planted it into the ground which grew into a big Beri tree (seen by Kavi Santokh Singh ji).  It is known as Sri Ber Sahib Gurduara Sahib.  Guru ji washed his lotus-like face.  His teeth were like lines of diamonds.  Guru ji stood up and stepped into the river.  His feet were into the river.  His feet gave patience to all.  He went to the centre of the river and took a dip.  He went underwater.  The Master of the water, Varun Dev appeared in front of the Giver of Bliss.  He touched Guru ji’s feet and bowed with his hands folded.  Guru ji was the dispeller of thoughts.  Varun Dev was in bliss to see Guru ji.  He said to Guru ji: “I received the message of Akaal Purakh through the Akaash Vaani.  Parm Pitha Parmeshwar told me to come to you.  Kartaar wishes for you to go to him in Sach Khand.  The place where bliss is infinite, where the bliss form Parmeshwar lives, please go there.”  Guru ji heard this and said: “I have received the message in my heart as well.  I knew that the summon was about to come.  The King of Kings, the master of all the Jyotis, the beautiful Parmeshwar, I will go without delay.  I will go right now.”  Guru ji went to Sach Khand.  Guru ji arrived at the court of Akaal Purakh.  He went without delay.

The servant that stood with Guru ji’s clothes at the edge of the river became worried.  He thought Guru ji had drowned as it had been a long time.  He lost his patience and quickly left.  He still had the clothes in his hands.  He was worried.  He went straight to Daulat Khan’s home.  He was like a fish out of the water.  Everyone asked him why he was so shocked and worried.  He ran around like a mad man.  He couldn’t give anyone a response.  He went to the Raja’s court and said: “I checked in the water; Guru ji went in and didn’t come out.  I kept looking, again and again.  I ran here to tell you this.”  Daulat Khan heard this and had his horse saddled.  He ran his horse quickly.  Ferrymen were called.  Daulat Khan stood at the shore of the Vein.  News spread in Sultanpur.  Everyone came, running.  Everyone was impatient.

Bhaiya Jai Ram ji heard the news.  It was a like snake without his mani; a fish without water.  He ran to the Vein River.  He lost his patience.  He was worried.  His heart was in pain.  It was a deep pain.  He couldn’t see the form of peace anymore.  Many gathered at the Vein River.  Bhaiya Jai Ram ji looked towards the river.  He wanted to see the diamond of joy.  Everyone checked with care, all around the river.  They all failed.  They couldn’t find Guru ji.  They said: “did he get lost or did he go into the earth?  We can’t see him with our eyes.”  Guru ji’s glory was like the ocean.  The human mind was like a weak woman at the shore of the ocean.  How would she know the depth and vastness of the ocean?  People’s minds were still.  They didn’t know what to do.  They all searched hard for Guru ji.  They didn’t know what happened.  They were all shocked.  They were in regret.  Daulat Khan asked the servant what happened.  The servant said: “he went into the river to bathe.  He took one dip and never came out.  I looked many times into the water and couldn’t find him.  I quickly came to you.”  Daulat Khan was upset hearing this.  He spoke to all with sorrow: “my Modi was wise and the mine of virtues.  He didn’t have even 1 vice.  He was handsome and the temple of sensitivity.  His praise was like the dwarf sandalwood.  I have never had a Modi like him.  I won’t get another great person like him again.  The time he was the Modi, he did his work with love and responsibility.  I am really upset at this.”  Bhaiya Jai Ram ji was like he had been bankrupt.  It was like compassion took on a form.  His eyes were shedding tears.  He held his head and said: “oh master of the universe, what did you do?  I don’t see a solution to this.  Just as a fish is in pain in the month of Jeth, with less water; I am in pain.”  Chakvi and Chakva along with the lotus without sun, that’s how he was.  Just as a forest of Kavis, Chakors without the moon; how can they be happy?  Peacocks, koks, frogs are not happy without clouds.  Everyone was upset.  Sri Guru ji’s state was seen by all.  His lovers were in pain.

Bebe Nanaki ji was determined.  She didn’t waiver or lose hope like everyone else.  She said to herself: “my brother is the Avatar of Ishwar.  He is doing a drama like a normal human.  He is indestructible.”  She said to her husband: “have hope.  Let go of your worry.  Just as the sun is not overtaken forever by Rahu, that is how my brother is.”  Bhaiya Jai Ram ji cried and said: “my dear wife, we have checked the river many times.  We put out many nets so many times.  Many ferrymen went into the river.  They took out many fish and frogs.  They checked hard but couldn’t find him.  The Raja and his servants are in regret.  They gave up and came back home.  They checked hard.”  Mata Sulakhani ji began to cry.  She said: “you left me!  You left me humble.  Just as a kunj separates from the line, that’s how I am.”  She pulled her hair and took her jewellery off.  She cried and made her clothes wet.  She lost senses of her body.  She said: “this home is empty without you.  The place where you gave donations looks empty.  Who will give to the poor now?  Who will satiate them?  Many beggars came everyday and you gave them donations.  Where did you go without telling us?  You weren’t sick.  How did death come to you?  Father of my son, I have no other support now.  I lost hope and patience.”  She was in deep sorrow.  She screamed and cried.  Her left side was twitching and giving good omens though.  Nobody knew the reason of what happened.  Mata ji wondered why her left side was twitching.  People had come back and stopped checking.  Everyone was quiet.  The house of Joy, the good omens were being seen.  Who would tell everyone why the good omens were seen?

The yells of sorrow were heard everywhere.  They all left their hopes.  Their chests were heavy.  Bebe Nanaki ji saw everyone’s state.  The servants, maids and relatives in the home were all upset.  She saw her father-in-law upset along with her husband.  Her sister-in-law was crying.  Bebe Nanaki ji said to Mata Sulakhani ji: “listen wise one, let go of your sorrow.  You are pregnant.  Don’t give your body pain.  You don’t know the secrets of your husband.  You are in sorrow for no reason.  Trust me, your husband will come back in a few days.  Keep me words in your heart.  Wait for 3 days.  Don’t take your jewellery off.  Don’t change your clothes.”  She spoke to everyone with love.  The whole family saw Bebe Nanaki ji and stayed quiet.  She would give everyone hope and they would go quiet.  When they would think of Guru ji, they would start crying again.  Whoever heard about Guru ji, they would start crying and say: “he was great!”  Guru ji’s friends cried.  They sat together and remembered Guru ji.  They cried.  Some came to Bhaiya Jai Ram ji’s home and said: “this was bad.  How did this happen all of a sudden?  The moon of the Bedis would bathe everyday.  What happened today?  He took one dip and disappeared.  Many efforts were made but his body couldn’t be found.”  In this way, people thought Guru ji died.  Everyone was shocked.  Some would praise Guru ji.

Some slanderers slandered him.  There was noise in Sultanpur that Guru ji’s body was not found. The slanderers did not know Guru ji’s secret that he was Parmeshwar.  The ones who were caught by attachment, the alligator, said to each other: “don’t worry.  He lost the money and regretted it.  He jumped into the river, knowing he couldn’t repay the money.  He knew that if he remained alive, it would have been bad.  He saw a big loss and decided to take his life.  He knew that Daulat Khan was strict.  He cut the love of his loved ones to pieces.  The divers tried finding his body.  Nobody knew where he went.”  People made estimates.

Bhaiya Jai Ram ji heard these words and got upset. It was like salt to his wounds.  He shook his head in pain.  The slanderers said: “he would feed Fakirs everyday.  He didn’t have a Rasayan.  He didn’t fear Daulat Khan.  He gave the money of Daulat Khan.  He gave a lot of donations.  He wasn’t the king of the village.  We see his so-called greatness today.”  The slanderers said bad things as they didn’t know the greatness of the Giver of Mukti.  The people of the city and the family, they all were worried.  In the second night, Bebe Nanaki ji meditated on the Giver of joy: “oh creator of the universe; giver of joy; giver of Mukti; Sri Kartaar; Murari; destroyer of sins; I know that you came as an Avtar.  If my faith is true, come back at Amritvela and take away the sorrow of your servants.  The fools and egotistical people, put them to shame.  You are the compassionate one.  You are the greatest and without fault.  You are the beloved, you punish the hypocrites.  You destroy problems and fear.  In Kaliyuga, only bad schemes are happening.  The people are sinners.  Their wisdom is poor.  You took on a body to give wisdom to all.  Your face is like the moon.  You left your body without telling anyone. This doesn’t make sense.  Why did you disappear?  Be compassionate and show yourself to all.  Your forest of lotus flowers is wilting.  Your family is worried.  Come back like the rising sun.  Show your face to everyone.”  She prayed with her hands folded.  She bowed her head on the ground.  She said: “Parm Pitha Parmeshwar, fulfill my request as the day rises.”  She did this all night long.  She sang the glories of Parmeshwar all night long.  She meditated on her brother with love.  She thought of him all night long.  In this way, the glory of Guru ji spread in Sultanpur.  Listen to the Kath of Guru ji ahead.  Kavi Santokh Singh does his Simran.  I bow my head at Guru ji’s feet.

1-29 Coming out of the Vein (Bein River)/ Quitting as the Modi

Sri Guru ji’s feet are like a ship which will take me across the ocean of problems without a doubt.

Sri Bala Sandhur Vaach..

Sri Satguru ji went to the Prabhoo Parmeshwar.  The giver of Bliss saw the Parmeshwar and folded his hands.  He bowed to the Prabhoo like a stick on the floor.  The Prabhoo smiled.  He lives in the focus of the Jogis.  Prabhoo said to Guru ji: “welcome Nanak, the lover of the Naam!  The reason why you took an Avatar, do that task now.  Kaliyuga is fierce.  The people have become unwise.  They worship the Devatas and Devis.  They have turned their backs towards the Naam.  They commit big sins, day and night.  Go and illuminate Prema Bhagti.  The world has become heavy.  Lighten it.  The liars are going to Hell in big numbers.  They have no peace.  When they gain awareness, they reject the Path of Bhagti and take the sinful one.  People are stuck in the desires for women and hypocrisy.  Go and make the glory of the Naam radiant.  Destroy hypocrisy in which people are stuck in.”  Guru ji heard this and was filled with bliss.  He uttered a Shabad in Sri Raag: “

Sri Mukhvaak.. Sri Raag Mahalla 1..

If my age be millions upon millions of years, if I am thirty and hungry, I would consume wind..

If I lived in a cave and never saw the moon or the sun, and if I may never sleep or dream..

I still would not be able to estimate your value.  How can I describe the greatness of your Name..1..

You are infinite and True, you have no form.  You are still in your place..

I have heard over and over again (from the Vedas and the Shastras), so I tell it, as it pleases you, Lord, Please instill within me the yearning for you..1..Rahao

If I was slashed and cut into pieces, over and over again, and ground in a mill into flour..

If I am burnt in fire and mixed in ashes..

I still would not be able to estimate your value.  How can I describe the greatness of your Name..2..

If I was a bird, soaring and flying through hundreds of skies..

If I was invisible, not eating or drinking..

I still would not be able to estimate your value.  How can I describe the greatness of your Name..3..

Oh Nanak, if I had hundreds of thousands of stacks of paper, and if I were to read and recite (the Vedas and Shasters) and embrace the meanings with love..

If the ink were unlimited, writing your glory by the wind..

I still would not be able to estimate your value.  How can I describe the greatness of your Name..4..2..

(SGGS 14/15)

The Parbrahm Pitha Parmeshwar heard this and laughed.  Parmeshwar being the Guru of Guru Nanak Dev ji, gave him the Mantra.  Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji engrained it within his heart.  Guru Angad Dev ji, I will tell you the Mantra..

Ath Mantra..

Ik Oankaar (the one Advaita, the one Sat (infinite), Chetan (consciousness), Anand (bliss); the creator, sustainer and destroyer; the one who is the same in past, present and future; the one who is aware in awake, dream and deep sleep).

Satnam (the infinite existence who is known as the Naam)

Karta Purakh (the one that does all the tasks and that is complete)

Nirbhao (without fear)

Nirvair (without hatred)

Akaal (above time)

Moorat (exists in true reality)

Ajooni (is not born in species)

Saibhang (came to existence in his own will)

Guruprasad (the blissful form, attained by the Guru’s compassion)

Then in a deep voice, the Prabhoo said: “let go of your work as the Modi.  Illuminate this Mantra.”  Guru ji bowed his head to the one whose Darshan destroys all pain.  Guru ji then came back to the same place he left from.  Saying the name of Guru Nanak Dev ji gives joy.  His servant came back every day with his clothes.  From where Guru ji entered the river, he came out about 3 km away from there.  It is where Gurduara Sant Ghatt is now.  Sikhs do the Darshan of that place today.

Guru ji’s servant had faith and looked towards the river.  He had love for Guru ji’s feet.  He kept looking at the water.  He thought many things in his mind.  He continuously shed tears from his eyes.  Every time the water splashed, the servant thought Guru ji had come.  Guru ji came out the same time he went in after 3 days.  It was Amritvela.  The servant saw Guru ji.  Love overflowed in his heart.  It is said to be Bhai Bhageerath ji.  He ran to Guru ji and bowed to his feet.  He shed tears on his feet.  He gave Guru ji the clothes he held in his hands.  Guru ji put the clothes on.  The Compassionate One looked at the servant and said: “you are Nihaal (blessed) today.”  As Guru ji said that, Bhai Bhageerath ji’s Dasam Duar opened.  He saw his Aatma.  The 5 types of doubts were gone.  Gyaan came into him.  He was a Brahmgyaani now.  Guru Nanak Dev ji and Bhai Bhageerath ji walked towards Sultanpur.  He was here to destroy the hypocrisy.

Guru ji sent Bhai Bhageerath ji: “go to Bhaiya Jai Ram ji’s home.  Go and see Bebe Nanaki ji who had spent the whole night in prayer.  She did her Ardaas all night long.  Bow to her feet for me.”  Bhai Bhageerath ji went quickly to where Bebe Nanaki ji was sitting in Dyaan.  Bebe Nanaki ji was sitting without movement.  She was sitting in meditation of her brother.  Bhai Bhageerath ji bowed to her feet.  He said to her: “oh wise one, your brother has come back.  Go and see him quickly.”  Bebe Nanaki ji heard this and opened her eyes.  It was like a dead person getting Amrit in their mouth.  Her heart overflowed with bliss.  She went to Bhaiya Jai Ram ji and said: “my brother is back!  Seeing him, the pain will be gone.  His servant just came back to me.  He came to inform me of his coming.”  Bhaiya Jai Ram ji heard this, which was like a fish getting water; like a fish in the desert, alone, being covered in rain by a cloud.  He was pale.  His colour came back after hearing this news.  Like a snake getting his mani back after losing it, that’s how he was.  He ran to Guru ji and met him.  Guru Angad Dev ji, the bliss could not be described.  The whole family was happy.  The fear and worries were gone.  It was like the sun destroying the fog.

The news spread in Sultanpur.  Whoever heard, they ran to meet Guru ji.  Men and women came to see the giver of joy.  The giver of Mukti slowly came into Sultanpur.  His eyes were radiant like the lotus in the colour of Parmeshwar.  The Prabhoo came to the doors of the Modikhana.  His beloved ones were happy to see him.  Guru ji saw the closed the doors.  A servant said: “Daulat Khan had these doors closed.  You can see his seal.”  Guru ji opened the doors and the seal.  The people of Sultanpur were amazed.  They ran to Guru ji.  They said: “he stayed in the river for 3 days.  Nothing happened to him.  He is alive.  We wonder what happened.  His body is not affected.”  Everyone was surprised.

The faultless face of Guru ji was full of blessings.  He said to the poor: “don’t doubt this.  Don’t be afraid.  Go inside and take what you need.  Go yourself and take what you want.”  Many people went inside and looted the Modikhana.  There was a lot of noise.  Some took food and some took salt, ghee, red chili, black pepper, turmeric, and some took money.  Some took Rajitpuns.  There were clothes in the Modikhana.  They were colouful.  Guru ji had them looted as well.  There was no shortage.  Everyone got what they wanted.  People were wondering if this was a shop of the Kamdhenu cow, or a Chintamani.  There was a lot of noise.  Bhaiya Jai Ram ji and other people watched the gem of the Bedis.  The 9 Niddhis, the Siddhis and the Riddhis lived in him.  The master of the universe, how can there be a shortage?  The poor looted and got tired.  The stock didn’t finish.

A person ran to Daulat Khan and told him everything: “the Modikhana is being looted.”  Daulat Khan sent his servants.  He was shocked to hear that everyone was looting the shop.  The people were stopped and backed away from the door.  Navaab Daulat Khan came on his horse.  He looked at Guru Nanak Dev ji in amazement.  He saw the Gyaan form.  Guru ji was wearing a Kaphni, like the Dervishes.  Daulat Khan was upset.  He had regret and didn’t understand what had happened.  Daulat Khan said to his soldiers after seeing the situation: “who has possessed the Modi?  He was very wise.  He worked in a great way.  He spent 3 days in the river and now he is orchestrating the looting of the Modikhana without accounts.  He’s dressed like a Dervish Sadhoo.  What did he see in the Vein River?  He is standing quietly.”  He was upset and then went to his home.

The Compassionate One headed towards the cemetery and cremation grounds.  News travelled in Sultanpur: “Guru ji left the city.  He left the Modikhana and walked a different path.  He went to the scary cemetery.”  The Master of the Universe was in solitude, where the pyres burned.  Whose graves Guru ji’s feet went over, those people received Mukti.  The ones who were in Hell, were saved.  Wherever Guru ji went, the dead came and were saved.  The Giver of Joy sat down there.  He knew that nobody would bother him here.  He was worshiped by the 14 Loks.  Shivji, Sanak, Sanandan, Brahma and others couldn’t quantify Guru ji.  They couldn’t see his full infinite form.  He sat in the cemetery.

Bhaiya Jai Ram ji saw Guru ji’s behavior and thought deeply.  He got worried.  His eyes shed tears.  He went to his home and didn’t come out.  He couldn’t eat food properly.  He wore dirty clothes and was in pain.  He thought of many things.  One thought came and one passed.  He thought to himself: “he left for 3 days and came back.  He came and had his shop looted by the poor.  Daulat Khan will ask for the accounts.  How will it balance?  We will have to cover the difference.  When his parents hear this, they will be upset.  They will blame me for everything.  We are all shocked.  I can’t understand this.”

The people of Sultanpur said to Jai Ram ji: “he has gone crazy.  He doesn’t know his own body.  He sits in the cemetery.  He has been possessed by a ghost.  He lost a lot of money and has taken on the form of Sadhoos.  He is a hypocrite.”  The ones that knew Guru ji, they were like the Jamoora who doesn’t waiver seeing his master acting in different roles.

The slanderers went to Daulat Khan and said to him: “he lost your money.  He is worried now.  He took on the form of a Sadhoo.  This is an excuse.  He is afraid of you.  He left his home and went to the jungles.  Ask Jai Ram ji to balance the accounts.  Fine him for the loss.”  Daulat Khan heard this and got influenced.  He sent his servant to call Bhaiya Jai Ram ji: “bring him here and balance the accounts.”  The servant called Bhaiya Jai Ram ji: “you are summoned by Daulat Khan.”  When he came, Daulat Khan said: “balance the accounts for a whole year.  Do what it takes.  Fill the fine.  Whatever is mine, give it to me.  I won’t let you go empty.  If it is a loss or profit, go and get the stock.”  Daulat Khan didn’t know the truth.  He spoke harshly, like putting hot metal onto a skin boil.  Hearing these words, Bhaiya Jai Ram ji got up.  He was worried.  The river of worry drowned him.  He thought without patience: “what will I say to him?”  He sought the assistance of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  He said to the Navaab: “I wish to go to the sanctuary of the giver of joy.  I will go to him once.  I will come back and balance the accounts.”  He thought about this and was full of pain.

Bhaiya Jai Ram ji went to the cemetery.  He saw Guru Nanak Dev ji sitting there.  It was like Shivji sitting in the cemeteries, with a garland of skulls.  Bhaiya Jai Ram ji shook with fear.  He bowed and said: “oh beautiful and compassionate one; we need the accounts for a whole year.  I have been called by the Navaab and he gave me the task.  I got permission and came here first.”  Guru ji heard this and got up.  He didn’t care for anything.  He walked slowly.  The giver of Mukti and joy came to the Navaab with Bhai Jai Ram ji.  He was the form of the Parmatma.  The Jeev and Atma were walking.  the gem of the Bedis reached Daulat Khan’s home.  The accountant came.  Guru ji’s heart was in bliss.  The accountant, Guru ji and Bhaiya Jai Ram ji began to balance the accounts.  The Parmeshwar is the Master of accounts.  How can he be in shortage?  It was for the whole year.  All the journals and ledgers were counted.  The revenue and costs were counted.  Many calculations were done.  The accountant recorded everything.  His brain got tired.  He was amazed that there was a profit for the Compassionate One.  Sri Guru Angad Dev ji, listen to this: 760 Rajitpuns were found in profit.  When Daulat Khan heard this, he was shocked.  Bhaiya Jai Ram ji was very happy.  The foolish slanderers were embarrassed.  The fools didn’t know Guru ji’s glory.  His glory was like rain to the Juvasa flower (slanderers).  He was the moonlight.  The slanderers were like the Chakvas.  The slanderers were considered liars.  Daulat Khan called Guru ji, the Master of the Universe, Kamal Nain.

When the balancing of a whole year happened, he said: “take your profit.  Do the Modi job.  I will give you more money.  Keep working.  Take more money.  When you get more profit, take it from me.”  The Baba said: “I won’t take the money.  Whatever is left, listen: keep it.  Keep your faith.  This money is Khuddah’s so give it to the Fakirs.”  Guru ji came back to the cemetery.  He sat among the burning pyres and graves.  He dressed like a Dervish.  He sat in the Samadhi of the infinite one.  The first form of the Infinite, Guru ji sat there.  The form that cannot be described, which gives the rewards; which destroys the illnesses, he meditated on that form.

The whole family, except for Bebe Nanaki ji, was surprised and amazed.  They came to Guru ji and stayed quiet.  They couldn’t speak to him.  Bhaiya Jai Ram ji took all of the stock of the Modi and tidied it up.  He gave all of the stock to Mata Sulakhani ji and said: “I can’t control him.  Stay simple and be patient.  Do his Simran, day and night.  The Raghuvir will do good.”

People came to Bhaiya Jai Ram ji and said: “we don’t understand what happened to him?  He’s living in the cemetery.  He doesn’t come to the city.  He has lost his senses.  He doesn’t hear anyone.  He has no enthusiasm or will.  He doesn’t respond to anyone.  He doesn’t tell anyone his secret.”  The ones who didn’t know Guru ji, they showed their foolishness.  Some said nonsense.  Some said: “he is crazy.”  Some said: “he is possessed.”  Only Bebe Nanaki ji was determined, like the Sumer Mountain.  She knew how her brother was.  He was sharp like the wind.  Normal people lost their faith.  Mata ji was steadfast in her beliefs.  She said to Mata Sulakhani ji: “whatever my brother does, is good.  We can’t say anything to him.  We are weak and limited.  He is omnipotent.  He is the Master.  We are foolish.  How can we go against him?”

1-30 Baba Moola comes/ Baba Lakhmi Das ji is born

The feet of Sri Guru ji are the form of Love.  They are like two beautiful swans.  Come to the ocean of my mind.  Destroy my vices and illuminate virtues.

Sri Bala Sandhur Vaach..

Mata Sulakhani ji saw everything uprooting.  She called a servant and spoke to him.  She sent him to her father’s home.  When Baba Mool Chand ji heard from the servant, he came to Sultanpur right away.  He thought many things which were utter nonsense.  He was in a deep pain in his mind.  He took his Pandit, Pandit Shyaam, along with him.  He met his daughter with love.  He was quite anxious and upset.  He sat down with his daughter.  Mata Sulakhani ji said: “my husband has become a Fakir.  He has renounced the home.  He gave away the money.  He spent 3 days in the river.  After 3 days he came to the shore.  The water did not affect him.  He then had the shop looted.  He is sitting in the cemetery.  He doesn’t speak to or listen to anyone.”  Listening to his daughter, Baba Moola ji became angry.  His eyes were red and his lips were quivering.  He spoke harsh words from his mouth.  When he heard that Guru ji gave all the money away, he couldn’t tolerate that.  He shook his head and walked towards where the Crown of the Bedis was sitting, looking radiant.

Baba Moola ji came to Guru Nanak Dev ji and spoke harsh words: “you were born to destroy your family!  You burn the chest of your parents.  Your father told me that you used to give away money as a child.  You destroyed his wealth.  I didn’t see your character with my eyes.  I followed Jai Ram and married my daughter to you.  I have been in pain ever since.  I have never been happy since my daughter has been married.”  Guru Nanak Dev ji regarded his father-in-law as his father and stayed quiet.  Baba Moola spoke harsh words.  He was upset.  He came back to his daughter’s home.  He did not know that Guru ji was the Parmeshwar.  His chest was burning with anger.  He kept thinking many things.  Without seeing Guru ji as omnipotent, he was upset.  The Brahmin, in whose company he would sit, he sat with him and told him his pain.  He cried, seeing his daughter and said: “I have not been happy for even one day.  Since I married my daughter off, I have been in pain.  He is sitting in the cemetery.  He left his home and work.  He left my daughter.”  Shyaam Pandit heard the words of anxiety and got up.  He said: “let’s go and speak to your son-in-law.”  They both went back to the cemetery.

The Gem of the Bedis, was the destroyer of pain.  He came to Earth to punish the hypocrites.  Baba Moola came with the Pandit to the cemetery.  They both sat near Guru ji and said to him: “you are like a child.  You do childish things.  You quit the great work of the Modi.  You didn’t think of this.  You renounced the honour of your parents and took on a form of a Fakir.  You are sitting in this impure cemetery.  You are sitting here in joy.”  Guru ji heard the Pandit.  Guru ji, the Master of the Universe uttered a Shabad in Basant Raag as it was spring:

Basant Hindol Mahalla 1..

The king (mind) is a child, the city is raw/fragile (body), the friends (vices) are corrupt, whom he loves..

There are 2 mothers (Avidhya and Maya) and 2 fathers (Ishwar and Jeev), Pandit, think about this..1..

Oh Pandit, I will give you the wisdom of the Master.. How will one attain the Master of the Pranas..1..Rahao..

(SGGS 1171)

The mind is the king.  It is always wandering and can’t sit still.  That is how the mind is.  The wisdom of the Gyaan form, it does not listen to it.  It does not accept it.  It is stuck on the play of the pleasures.  It lives in this raw and fragile body.  The body can be destroyed today or tomorrow.  It sees the body as everlasting and loves it.  When the rain of death comes, the body will be destroyed.  It happens all of a sudden, just like raw mud houses are destroyed by rain.  When the child understands this, he will regret it.  He only loves the 5 corrupt ones, who always spoil his tasks.  Lust, anger, greed, attachment and the mighty ego; he becomes their friends but they destroy him.  He keeps meeting them and becomes anxious.  Those 5 thieves loot his city (body) day and night.  The Ishwar, Master is inside.  The Mind child doesn’t understand how much damage he is taking.  He keeps meeting the 5 thieves.  His mothers are Avidya and Maya.  Ish and Jeev are the fathers (of the mind) who gave birth.  They gave him birth because of crookedness.  What would they fix for him?  Think about this wisdom and tell me.  Attain the Prabhoo.”  Guru ji then went quiet.  Baba Moola ji then spoke: “if this is the ideology you had, why did you get married then?  You gave me pain.  You gave away your money and destroyed your shop.  You didn’t think about giving anything to your wife or son.  Without shame, you left your home and family.  You ran away.”  Guru ji then spoke:

Sri Mukhvaak:

Vegetation flourishes with fire inside it, the ocean is in a bundle, stuck to the earth..

The moon (Vairagya) and sun (Vivek) are in the one home, but this Gyaan (of the Parmeshwar) has not been achieved..2..

(SGGS 1171)

The mind has the fire of desire.  Just as fire is never satisfied and keeps burning, the desire is never satiated.  Desire asks for 100 and then 1,000.  It then asks for 100,000 and then millions.  Even billions upon trillions are not enough.  Think about this in your mind.  Does the mind ever find satiation?  The Sumer Mountain is like a rye seed.  The stomach of desire is vast, like the sky.  The vegetation are the leaves and branches.  Woman, daughter, son, in-laws, relatives are the body.  As the age grows, the relations grow.  Day and night, one’s mind gets caught in this.  One can’t escape from this.  One is stuck their whole life.  The ocean Parmeshwar lives in the body.  The one who listens to the Guru, they attain the Parmeshwar.  That person receives Mukti.  The moon and sun are in the body.  The moon is the detachment and the Sun is the wisdom.  When Brahmgyaan is achieved, one sees the illumination everywhere.  The lotus is upside down in the belly button.  How can Gyaan illuminate in the heart?  When the mind is straightened, standing in front of the Guru, the Gyaan comes.  The Agyaan is destroyed.  This Gyaan cannot be achieved without the Guru.  The darkness has covered the Gyaan.”  Sri Guru ji then went quiet.  The Pandit then spoke: “do the Simran of Ram and continue your work.  It doesn’t matter if you’re in the home or the jungle.  The Ram will protect you everywhere.  Ram is in the land and in the water.  He knows all life forms, no matter where they are.”  Guru ji then spoke the 3rd Padh:

Sri Mukhvaak..

Ram living in all creation, is known by the union of Maya and thereby detaching from it..

The person is known (to be attained) by having forgiveness; gathering this as wealth..3..

(SGGS 1171)

Ram exists in all.  These properties are known: the one who gives money to all and does not love it (money), this is who the Brahmgyaani is.  The good virtues, such as forgiveness and others, one collects these.  It is the same in the home and the jungle.  He knows the Ram, as being omnipresent.”  Baba Mool Chand ji then said: “he his stubborn.  He is crazy.  I don’t understand what he is saying.  He says what he thinks of.  He doesn’t listen to anyone.  Pandit, what are you speaking to him about?  Stop talking to him.  Let’s go home.  You came because of me but this one is stubborn.  He won’t listen to us.”  Guru ji then spoke to give wisdom.  He said the 4th Padh of the Shabad to take away the pain of the Sikhs:

Sri Mukhvaak..

The ones who don’t listen to what is said and don’t accept what is consumed, they live in the Jeev..

Prays Nanak, become the servant of the servant, in one instant the mind is a Tola; in another instant it is Massa..4..

(SGGS 1171)

One is a slave of the Indriyas (senses) who don’t listen to anyone.  They don’t listen to wisdom.  They want pleasure.  They only what to sense pleasure.  The eyes are never satiated of seeing pleasurable sights.  They ears are not satiated listening to various Raags.  The nose is not satiated by pleasant fragrances.  The tongue is not tired of great tastes.  The skin wishes to touch softness.  The Indriyas live in these pleasures all the time.  The Jeev lives in these Indriyas.  It consumes all this and doesn’t accept what has been consumed.  It wants new things.  They always live in pleasures.  Listen Brahmin, become the servant of the servant of Hari.  The bonds will be broken.  They achieve the bliss.  The mind is never in a single state.  It receives objects and becomes heavy like a Tola.  When it loses it, it became sad and empty like a Massa.  Make the effort to make it better.  Do what is best for the Jeev in this world.  They are saved then.”  The Pandit heard this and folded his hands.  He bowed to Guru ji’s feet.  He realized that this was the form of the Parmeshwar.  He hadn’t seen such a wise person before.  Guru ji saw the humility of the Pandit.  He blessed him with his sight.  The great bonds of attachment of the world, they were instantly broken for the Pandit.

Baba Moola got upset and went to the village.  He was in deep pain.  He was surprised.  He stayed with his daughter for a few days.  He didn’t go back home.  Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji was still in the cemetery.  There were many graves and pyres burning.  He sat there cross-legged.  The wise people who knew Guru ji’s greatness, came to bow to Guru ji.  In this way, Guru ji lived in the Cemetery.

After 3 months, Baba Lakhmi Das ji was born.  1553 Vikram was the year.  The whole family was happy.  Mata Sulakhani ji was like the eastern sun.  Her face was happy.  Baba Sri Chand ji was like the sun, Baba Lakhmi Das ji was like the moon.  A servant came to Guru Nanak Dev ji to give him the news of his second son’s birth.  Guru ji was in a single state.  Pleasure and sorrow were the same to him.  Guru ji didn’t step foot in Sultanpur.  He loved the jungle.  He stayed there, day and night.  There were many pyres there.  The dead were being saved.  The reason for Guru ji being there was to give Mukti to the dead that were buried there.

Guru Nanak Dev ji kept repeating from his mouth: “there is no Hindu, nor is there Muslim.  Nobody is a Hindu or a Muslim.  These are all false names people call themselves.”  Some people came close to Guru ji and heard this.  They went to the village and told others.  The Qazi heard about this.  He disguised himself and went to see for himself.  Some people went with him.  They saw Guru ji sitting down and saying: “there is no Hindu.  There is no Muslim.”  The Qazi came close and sat down next to Guru ji.  He said to Guru ji: “how are you saying this?  There is no Hindu or Muslim in this world?  How would we know that?  Wherever we look, we see Hindus and Muslims.  I have doubts about what you say.  Answer my question after thinking about this.”  Many people were gathered near Guru ji.  There was a crowd there, all around.  Guru ji gave his Darshan to the humble.  The ones who came with faith, Guru ji destroyed their pains.  The Lotus-bodied One heard the Qazi’s words.  Guru ji was the destroyer of bad wisdom and the giver of joy.  Guru ji said Saloks for the unwise:

Salok M:1..

To call yourself Mussalman is difficult, if one is true, then he can call himself Mussalman..

Firstly, the saints, see their religion as sweet; destroy your ego by scrubbing it with Vivek..

Becoming a true Muslim, a disciple of the Prophet, let him put aside the delusion of death and life..

Accept the will of the Lord on your head; accept the Lord’s way and let go of your delusion of the self..

Then, Nanak, when the Lord is compassionate, when these virtues are present, one is called a Mussalman..1

(SGGS 141)

Salok M: 1..

Let mercy be the Mosque, faith your prayer mat and the honest living, the Quran..

Make modesty your circumcision and good conduct your fast.  This will make you a Mussalman..

Let the good deeds be the Kaaba, truth your Peer; your karma the Nimaaz…

Your Tasbih (Mala) should be your calmness that impresses the Lord.  Nanak, the Lord will protect your honour..1..

 (SGGS 140)

M:1..

The Hindus have forgotten the root Parmeshwar, they are decreasing..

Just as Naarad said, they worship the idols (but do not apply their focus)..

They are blind and mute, they are in darkness..

The uncivilized fools worship the stones..

When the stone sinks, how will they carry you across..2..

(SGGS 556)

The Mussalman and Hindu, see them as so: they don’t do good deeds.  Their names are a lie.  Both are wandering in the jungles, forgetting Bhagti.  How will they reach the place of bliss?”  The Qazi was embarrassed to hear this, like a firefly in front of the sun.  He stayed quiet.  He didn’t give an answer.  He got up and came home.  The wise praised Guru ji.  The unwise slandered him.  The fools did not bow.  Guru ji showed everyone Prema Bhagti.  He stayed in the cemetery.

Bhai Bhageerath was with Guru ji, doing his Darshan.  Bhai Mansukh ji came with love.  They were drenched in the colour of Naam.  They folded their hands and bowed like a stick.  Guru ji said: “Sat Kartaar.”  He asked how the Sikhs were.  The Sikhs sat near Guru ji with faith.  Bhai Mansukh Shah ji was emotional and couldn’t speak.  Bhai Mansukh ji said to the light of the Bedis: “I am happy to see you.  All my pains are gone.  I am going to a foreign land.  I wish for your permission.  I am going for business.  I am taking a lot of commodities to sell them.  I am going to Sangladeep on a ship.  I will be gone for a long time.  I will be separated from you for a long time.  Please give me words of bliss.  I will write them and read them everyday.  I want my love for your feet to grow.”  The destroyer of poverty said beautiful words which had the glory of the Sri Kartaar in them.  The words had Bhagti and Vairagya.  Bhai Mansukh ji wrote all of the Bani down.  He read it and was filled with love.  Guru ji then said: “bathe in the morning at 2 am.  Let go of your laziness and bathe.  You will be rewarded by reciting this Bani with your focused attention.  You will see the form of Parmeshwar.  When the sun comes up, make Prashaad.  Do Ardaas and then distribute the Prashaad.  Eat it yourself after.  When the sun is up, do your business with focus.  In the evening, recite this Shabad again.  Keep your mind drenched in Bhagti.  When you are stuck in a big task, do the Simran of the Satguru, the giver of joy.  Your task will be fulfilled.”  Bhai Mansukh Shah ji heard this and bowed.  He went to Sangladeep.

Bhai Bhageerath ji was sitting there.  Guru ji gave him permission to go back to his village: “do the Simran of Parmeshwar.”
