1-21 The Bharaat leaves from Sultanpur

Sri Satguru Harkrishan ji’s face is very beautiful.  He cuts the pain away.  He is the house of joy.  He is the mine of virtue and happiness.  Jai, Jai, Jai to the idol of joy.  Victory be to him.

Sri Bala Sandhur Vaach

One year had passed from the time of the engagement.  Baba Moola ji called a wise Brahmin and had him seated in the home with great respect.  He wanted the Brahmin to find an auspicious day for the Saha.  The Saha letter was written.  The day of Harr Sudhi 7th was chosen as a good day for the wedding.  A person was sent to Sultanpur with the Saha letter.

The Saha Letter came to Sultanpur.  Bebe Nanaki ji was in great joy.  Her brother was going to get married.  She was a sacrifice unto this day.  Bhaiya Jai Ram ji had Nidha Brahmin read the letter: “Harr Sudhi 7th is the day of the wedding.”  They started to celebrate right away.  The women of the city with beautiful eyes came wearing silk clothes to Bhaiya Jai Ram ji’s home.  Seats were laid out for everyone.  Bebe Nanaki ji was very happy.  They all sang songs of joy.  The songs were pleasant to hear.  They all sang to their heart’s delight.  Bhaiya Jai Ram ji said to Nidha Brahmin ji: “make preparations to go to Talwandi.  This letter drenched in saffron with sweets needs to be taken there.”  Bebe Nanaki ji gave the Brahmin the letter.

The Brahmin went to Pith Kalu ji’s home and gave him the letter.  Mata Tripta ji was really happy and so was Pitha ji.  Mata ji said: “who is more fortunate than me?”  They were in joy and got ready right away.  They wanted to spend money.  The mother of Guru Nanak Dev ji did all of the traditions of the wedding.  She celebrated in the home.  The doors were decorated with decorations.  The women of Talwandi were called.  They came with beautiful clothes and jewelry.  They were really happy.  The women of the Bedis were like they had stolen the beauty of the world.  They sang songs of joy.  They wore red chunnis and necklaces around their neck.  They wore red bhindis on their foreheads.  They were really happy.  Mata ji respected all of the women who came.  The home became crowded with people.  Everyone gave their congratulations to Mata ji.  Mata ji respectfully accepted them on her head (a gesture of respect when one would congratulate another, the receiver would touch their own head).  She did the Pooja of Ishver for dispelling all the obstacles.  The beggars came to the door.  Pitha ji gave many donations of clothes and food.  He didn’t leave anyone empty-handed.  Pakvaans were cooked and given to all.  There was a lot of joy in the home.  The Shehnais and Dhundhabs were played near the door.  There were many women in the home.  Mata ji was happy to see this.  Pitha Kalu ji did the traditions of the family.  The Bedis all came with great clothes and joy.  News was sent to the parents of Mata Tripta ji about the wedding.  Pitha ji sent the message to is father-in-law by sending a person.  They told them the day and place of the wedding.

Baba Rama ji and Mata Bhirai ji heard the news and started to celebrate.  They gathered their gifts and personal stuff and came to Talwandi.  They all made plans to go to Sultanpur.  Pitha ji said: “take your own gifts with you.  Don’t forget them.”

Pitha Kalyaan Chand ji went to Rai Bhullaar ji and did his Salaam.  He said: “your servant Nanak is about to get married.  I am going to Sultanpur and need your permission to go.  You are wise so please tell me what shall I need.”  Rai Bhullaar ji got angry and said: “your wisdom has always deceived you.  You see your son as only your son.  You don’t know that he is Parmeshwar.  With your ignorance, why are you making me a sinner?  You call him my servant but in fact, I am his servant.  He is the giver of Mukti and the Master of the 3 Loks.  I got angry when I heard your words.  Don’t say that again.  I told you this before as well but you didn’t listen to even one of my words.”  Pitha ji said: “listen Rai ji, I see you as the Ishwar.  You are elderly and the king of this city.  I respect you and see you as Ishwar.”  Rai Bhullar ji said: “you can respect me in other ways.  By calling your son my servant, you are disrespecting me.  The crown only looks good on the head.  The one who wears the crown on the feet, is called a fool.”  Pitha ji said: “forgive me for what I said.  I won’t say it again.  I always forget this.  I will remember this now.”  Rai Bhullaar ji said: “who am I to forgive you?  Only the forgiver can forgive.  Only Guru Nanak ji can forgive.  He is your son.  He forgives everyone, even the undeserving.  Go now and bow to the feet of Sri Nanak Chand ji for me.  You will be successful.  Khuddah will complete your tasks.  Let go of your cheapness.  Spend money with a big heart.  Do a great wedding.  Take what you need from my home.  I have chariots, palanquins and money.”  Rai Bhullar ji gave horses with golden saddles.  They had jewelry on them.  The chariots were decorated.  Tents and pillars were taken for the travels.  Rai Bhullar ji gave money but Pitha ji did not want to take it.  Rai Bhullaar ji insisted and gave the money with force.  Pitha ji took the money and came home.

Pitha ji called everyone in the home and had invitations sent to the other Bedis.  The messenger was told: “tell everyone: the Bedis are of a high Kshatriya family.  Where my son is to get married, his father-in-law is the Patwari of Randhawa.  Their status is high.  They have a lot of wealth.  Let’s go and have us praised.  This is the honor of the Bedis, not mine.  Let’s go quick.  Take the best chariots.”  The Bedis got this message and had expensive clothes made.  They took a lot of money and got ready to go with the Bharaat.  They wore golden jewelry with precious gems in them.  They were really shiny.  They wore bracelets and armlets.  They wore earrings which made their faces really beautiful.  They wore pearl necklaces.  Their clothes were really expensive.  On their heads, they wore Dastaars with Kalgis and jighas.  They were a royal family.  The young men were really handsome.  They wore rings.  They got on their horses and chariots to be part of the Bharaat.  Some got on their carts.  The chariots had red cloth laid on them.  They were made with golden threads.  The professional dancers were taken who wore beautiful jewelry and clothes which made Kamadeva jealous.  The musicians and drama artists came.  The servants loaded everything.  The Nagaras were placed on camels.  The Nagaras played really nice and looked radiant.

The women of the Bedis sang songs in their sweet voices.  They were really happy.  They saw the Bharaat off and came back home.  Pitha ji and Chacha ji took a lot of money.  They left Talwandi and came to Sultanpur.  Baba Rama ji and Baba Kishna ji came on their chariots.  They had a lot of joy coming into Sultanpur.  They rested during the nights and travelled during the day.  They all came to Bebe Nanaki ji’s home.  They were like fish swimming with joy in the ocean of joy.  Everyone said: “Guru Nanak ji is a great son.”  Bhaiya Jai Ram ji received everyone with respect.  He made preparations for everyone’s resting place.  Pithaji met his daughter and became happy.  He called a servant to get sweets.  He gave the sweets to his daughter.  The luggage was set in the house, along with the other things.  Bhaiya ji’s father, Baba Parmanand ji came and asked how everyone was.  He saw the Bharaat and got really happy.

The mine of joy, heard of his father’s arrival.  Guru Nanak Dev ji came from his shop and bowed to his father.  Pitha ji hugged his son with joy.  The Bedis all came to see Guru Nanak Dev ji with joy.  They all hugged him with joy.  Guru ji, the young Kishore, the Bedis saw him as the gem of their family.  His praises already spread throughout the other lands.  The money of Kamal Nain was given to Pitha ji.  Bhaiya Jai Ram ji said: “we balanced the accounts many times.  He was always in a profit.”  Bhaiya ji gave Pitha ji the 321 Rajitpuns.  Pitha ji was happy and said: “it was the time to spend money.  It is good that my son gathered a lot of money.”  Guru Angad Dev ji, Pitha ji didn’t know anything else.  He only cared for money.  He didn’t recognize his son as the Karta Purakh of the world.

Many types of foods were made and given to the guests.  The men ate first followed by the women.  The other servants were given food too.  They all ate Pakvaans with joy.  Nobody was left empty.  The food was sent to the 4 castes.  Pitha ji sent his servants to send the food.  The rich and poor were given food.  The joy spread in Sultanpur.  The Bedis were praised for being great donors.  A lot of sweet Pakvaans were made and sent by the servants.

Navaab Daulat Khan was sent sweets and Pakvaan.  He was really happy and said to Bhaiya Jai Ram ji: “whatever items you need from my home, take them from my servants.  You can take anything you need.  You don’t need to ask.”

The women called the Kamal Nain to them.  The women looked at his face and admired his radiance.  The sides of his eyes were beautiful which made Kamadeva jealous.  The women rubbed vatna on Guru ji.  7 married women of the Bedis rubbed the vatna on Guru ji.  Guru ji then took a bath and sat down on his seat.  A lot of donations were given to the beggars.  The women admired Guru ji’s beauty.  Guru ji wore yellow clothes that were radiant.  Golden bracelets were worn on his wrists.  Beautiful jewelry was put on his body.  Rings of different colours looked radiant on his fingers.  His Dastaar was beautiful.  The women were mesmerized by his Dastaar.  He was the form of Mukti and the giver of bliss.  His face was like the moon without the craters.  The crown on his head was radiant.  It had rubies and emeralds in it.  People saw him and were mesmerized.  They couldn’t stop looking at him.  Their pain was all gone that saw Guru ji’s groom form.  The ones that held his image in their minds, they received Mukti.  His body had joy.  The beauty of the world rested in Guru ji.  The small Dhundhabs were kept and played.  The beggars came to get donations.  Pita Kalu ji was happy and gave a lot of donations.  The musicians came and sang in Raags.  The Raags came and sang on the tongues of the artists.  There was a great celebration.  I have sung the glory in Kabits.  The celebration was radiant.  The Bhatts sang the glories of Guru ji with emotion.  The Bedis held a great court.  The musicians sang the Alaaps of the Raags all together.  The Bedis were happy to hear the Raags.  They gave the musicians a lot of money.  The musicians were really happy.  The Bharaatis met each other and laughed.  Many types of entertainments were going on.  The Bharaat was standing.  There was golden jewelry flashing all over the place.  All you could see among the crowd was the gold and clothes made of golden thread.  Rubies, sapphires, emeralds, diamonds and pearls were seen.

It was hot so there were fans of golden threads being waived.  The fans shined as they were being waived.  The Bharaatis wore silks clothes along with Pashmina.  There were many colours.  The radiance of Inder’s court was taken by this Bharaat.  Many days passed like this.  The day of the wedding came.  Everyone got ready to go to the wedding.  Bhaiya Jai Ram ji went to Navaab Daulat Khan and told him what he needed.  The Navaab gave him elephants and horses to ride.  They were decorated with golden saddles and howdahs.  They wore golden jewelry with precious gems.  They looked radiant.  Camels were given to carry the luggage.  Many tents were given.  Daulat Khan saw the Modi as one of his own.  The glory would have been his own.  If the praises were less, it would have been bad for his honor.  He called for more money and gave it.  He took the money from the treasury and gave it to Bhaya Jai Ram ji.  He said: “spend it good and spread your glory.”  Bhaiya Jai Ram ji came home and prepared to leave with the Bharaat.  Everyone got on top of their chariots.  They wore great clothes and got on top of their horses.  The traditions of the Vedas and the culture were done.  The women of Sultanpur met the Bharaatis.  It was like cuckoos singing.  They sang songs of joy, with happiness.

Kamal Nain who was the cutter of the bonds of attachment, the women saw him as the groom and were mesmerized.  His Sehra was hanging over his head.  The golden Kalgi on the Jigha was beautiful.  The best Chaur was waived over his head.  The people came running to see Guru ji.  Everyone got ready to leave.  Guru ji got into the palanquin which had precious gems on it.  The elephants had red howdahs.  Pitha ji got on top of an elephant.  His joy could not be quantified.  Baba Lalu ji got on top of an elephant along with Baba Ram Chand ji.  Mama Kana ji was also on an elephant.  Jagjit Mal, Inder Sain and Nand Lal, their beauty could not be compared with Kamadeva.  They were on top of chariots.  Chander Bhaan, Kaul Nain, Shiv Lal, Kaam Sain, Maan Chand, they all got ready with pride.  Parmanand ji, Jai Ram ji, Firanda, Takhat Ram, Jag Rai, Arjan Chand, Divani Mal, Mohan Mal, Lakhpat Rai and Jadorai got on top of their horses.  Many Bedi Kshatriyas along with others, they can’t be all counted; got on top other vehicles or horses.  They all wore great clothes and mounted their horses, elephants and chariots.  The horses were wise and strong.  They danced as they rode.  Many were on elephants that had great smelling necks.  The palanquins and chariots rode.  The Kshatriyas rode on them.  The camels and carts rode with great celebrations.  The dhols and Nagaras sounded.  The Turrarees, Daphs, and flutes played.  The bells, Napheeryas, and horns played.  You couldn’t hear yourself talking, there was so much noise.  Many colours could be seen on the flags in the front.  There were good omens seen.  Everyone saw them.  They saw two married women carrying pots of water walking by, where the Master of the World was.  Kids were playing.  The crows were on the right side.  Deer were seen running from left to right.  The people came out to see the Bharaat.  The cows fed their calves.  A pleasant wind was blowing in the right direction.  Everyone was happy to be going.  The bells in the necks of the elephants made noise.  The bells on the chariots made noise.  The chariots and horses were decorated.  Guru Angad Dev ji, Guru Nanak Dev ji kept me with him.  He gave me some money for my spending.  Listen Guru Angad Dev ji, the Katha of joy.  It is such a pleasant Katha.  The instruments sounded.  We all came to the Beas.  The ferrymen were paid to take us all across.  The ferrymen loaded the horses, elephants and chariots.  The carts were full of luggage.  We crossed the river quickly.  The servants helped us cross quickly.  The ferrymen all came to see the groom.  When they saw Guru ji, Guru ji gave them a lot of money.  The gem of the Bedis gave them clothes and money.  We crossed the river, Beas, and came to Khadoor to set up camp.  The sweets and pakvaans were given to everyone at night.  Everyone ate and rested.  Satguru ji ate and then laid down.

In the morning, the Bhatts sang Guru ji’s glories.  The instruments played.  The fulfiller of everyone’s wishes was getting married.  The Bharaat got ready and got on top of their horses, chariots or elephants.  They crossed many villages.  The people were happy to see the Bharaat.  They all wanted to see the groom.  Seeing Guru ji would make their pain go away.  They would all praise the groom.  They all said: “look how handsome the Groom his.  The Bharaat is huge and beautiful.”  In this way, it took 2 more days to get to our destination.  We came close to the place of wedding.  At about 3 km from Pakho ke Randhawa, the camp was set.  The beautiful Bharaat was stayed there.  The Adhyaaya is complete here.  The Katha continues.

1-22 The Bharaat Meets/ The Wedding

Sri Guru Tegh Bahadhur ji burned the root of the families of the Turks.  He is like the moon.  I bow to his lotus feet.  His Jot is the Sat, Chit and Anand form.

Sri Bala Sandhur Vaach..

The Bharaat stayed near Vatala.  They were about 3 km away.  Many types of entertainments took place.  The people enjoyed the music and plays.  The son of Baba Parmanand ji, Bhaiya Jai Ram ji, called the Brahmin and said: “tell Baba Moola ji that the Bharaat is here.”  The Brahmin met Baba Moola ji and gave him a blessing of a long life.  He said: “listen Sir, may you be blessed.  Kalu Chand Mehta has brought the Bharaat about 3 km from here.  The Bharaat is radiant.  I am here to give you the news.”  Baba Moola ji bowed and said: “this is very good news.  I will welcome them.”  Baba Moola ji got up and went to the Sarpanch named Hitha Randhawa.  He said to him: “listen Chaudhary ji, I just got news that the Bharaat is here.  I am going ahead to receive them.  I came to get your permission to go.  You are my support.”  The Sarpanch said: “I am old now so I can’t walk.  I am caught by old age.  Otherwise I would have gone with you.  There is no difference between us.  You are my beloved.”  He turned to his son Ajita, and said: “my son, Ajita, go with Mool Chand and receive the Bharaat with respect.  Whatever Mool Chand needs, give it to him.  Stay with him and help him.”  Baba Mool Chand ji said: “I am the Patwari and your honour is my honour.  You are my honour.  You are the leader of our village.  You are known everywhere.  I am your Patwari and everyone knows this.  I am always with you.  The great Bharaat is here.  Kalu ji and Parmanand ji have come on horses and elephants.  They are being praised as they are radiant.  The Devatas are attracted to the Bharaat.”  Hitha ji said: “you speak bad words.  If you don’t speak bad words, you will be praised.  Parmanand ji is here with other elders.  Be wise.  They will come to your home.  Kalu, the Patwari from Talwandi, he also speaks harsh words like you.  Don’t try to compare to them.  Just serve them and don’t say anything.  If he says something to you that is harsh, ignore it.  Whatever you need for the Bharaat, you can take what you need.  Take clothes, food or money.  Serve them and make them look radiant.  Be compassionate and don’t be cheap.”  Hearing the Sarpanch, Baba Mool Chand ji took some people to received the Bharaat.  The Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas and Shudras; all got together and spoke good words.  They all took the Laags and came to the Bharaat.

The Bharaat sounded the Nagaras and Dhonsas.  The Bharaat gathered when they heard the Nagaras.  The two families were to meet.  Both fathers met.  A lot of money was showered.  Both fathers were happy.  They did the family traditions.  Both families had love in their hearts.  Nobody was upset.  Everyone saw the groom with their eyes.  Everyone congratulated Baba Mool Chand ji: “your son-in-law is a pot for fortunes.  He is the mine of virtues.”  Both sides met and were really happy.  They went towards the city and saw a place to stay.  The elephants trumpeted.  They were decorated with jewellery.  The bells rang as they elephants walked.  The horses had golden saddles with gems.  The ground was stomped by the horse steps.  There were horses everywhere.  The chariots had bells on them that sounded when they rode.  The wheels made a lot of noise.  The Dhols, Daphs, Nagaras and other instruments sounded.  One could not hear others or themselves talking.  Flutes, Mridangs and instruments played.  Tambooras, bells and Shehnais played.  The professional dancers sang in Raags.  They sang in Taals and beautiful pitches.  The multi-coloured flags waived in the wind.  The Bharaat walked.  The Lotus-eyed One was in the middle.  A Chaur waived over his head.  On one elephant was Chacha Lalu ji, who threw a lot of money.  On the other elephant was Baba Parmanand ji who also threw money.  They both looked like clouds, showering money instead of rain.  Low or high caste was not thought of.  Everyone picked up the money that was showered.  The praises were spreading like moonlight from the full moon night.

The instruments playing, made the women of the town anxious.  They tied their necklaces around their wastes.  The waste bells were around their necks.  The anklets were worn in the wrists.  They couldn’t take care of their jewellery.  The soorma was on their cheeks.  The red colour that was supposed to be on their feet, they put in their eyes.  They quickly got ready in this way and quickly came to their balconies.  They shined like lightening in the clouds.  They looked at the groom from their lotus-like eyes.  They looked from their windows.  They took fistfuls of flowers and showered it on the Bharaat.  They mixed fragrances with the red colour and threw it on the Bharaat.  They saw the moon-like face of Guru ji.  The women were in bliss, seeing Guru ji.  The women took roses and fragrances and threw it on the Bharaat from their streets.  There was a mess on the floor.  There was an eagerness in their bodies.

The Bharaat came to Moola ji’s home.  They did the Aarti of the Destroyer of Pain.  Many women with moon-like faces came.  Their voices were sweet like cuckoos.  They did the family traditions and said the Sitnees by saying Guru ji’s name.  The Kama was not able to affect the Gyaan though.  Kama was trying to overpower the Gyaan, uselessly.  Guru ji was detached from everything.  Kama was upset and trying hard.  The groom and the Bharaat stayed in the Dhera.  Dust flew on top of everyone, like pollen on the lotus flower.

Tents and poles were pitched up.  They looked radiant.  Beggers were given what they asked for.  Everyone rested and were good as new.  The time for Dhenu dhool had arrived.  The wind blew hard as if it were sending invitations of joy to Heaven.  The fireworks were fired.  Many firecrackers were lit.  They made demons and demonesses in the sky.  Everyone was happy to see the fireworks.  Baba Mool Chand ji sent a person to the Bharaat to give a message: “come to the home now.  It is time for the Laavan.”  The Bharaat had a lot of flags and Nagaras.  The Nagaras sounded.  The sound was loud and sounded like clouds thundering.  There was bliss in the heart.  The Bharaatis all got together and went to the home.  Everything looked beautiful.  The Bedis and the supreme Bedi, Guru Nanak Dev ji, came to the place of the wedding.  Where the Bedi (wedding Mandap) was made, that’s where everyone gathered.  The Brahmins sat there as well.  Everyone was happy to see the Bharaat.  The Brahmins were happy and gave blessings.  They were all sitting around the Bedi.  The Mantras of the Vedas were uttered.  The well traditions took place that were in the Vedas.

From inside the home, the tall and beautiful, the form of Laxmi, dressed with joy, Mata Sulakhani ji was brought out.  Guru Nanak Dev ji was radiant like the moon.  The bride was seated next to Guru ji.  She was seated on the left side of Guru ji.  The fire was lit.  The Isht Dev was worshipped by the Brahmin.  Ghee was put in the fire with a big spoon.  Guru ji and Mata Sulakhani ji did 4 Laavan of the fire.  It was like Kamadeva and Ratti doing the Laavan.

Pandit Hardyal ji and the Brahmin of Mool Chand ji said out the history of the family names as per Vedic traditions.  The bride’s family name was Chona.  They used their Jyotish skills to speak the history.  It was spoken with the good tradition.  Everyone heard this and were happy to hear the history of the family.  The cultural and Vedic traditions were carried out.  As the Brahmins instructed, the wedding tradition was completed and donations were given.  The Brahmins gave their blessings to all and took the donations.

After the Laavan, everyone came back to the place of rest for the Bharaat.  Everyone was tired.  The dankness of the night was thick, like the darkness of ignorance of an ignorant person.  The stars sparkled like the sparkling of desires in a person who likes to indulge in pleasures.

In the morning, the roosters were crowing.  The bees were buzzing over the flowers.  The east was yellow from the light of the sun.  The birds sang, announcing the day.  The Chakvi and the Chakva met (as one is nocturnal so they only meet at sunrise).  The thieves that were out in the night ran away from the villages.  The mailmen left with the mail in the morning.  The rays of the sun spread.  The conches were blown during the morning poojas.  The darkness was gone like the Gyaan destroying the army of attachment.

Guru Nanak Dev ji let go of his sleepiness like a Gyani discards the desire for women.  He was aware, like a Brahmgyaani sitting in the bliss of Bhagti.  He bathed and gave out donations.  He was in a single state of joy and sorrow; he was above attachment and hatred.  He wore expensive clothes.  He destroyed the pain of his servants.  He was like the sun and the Bedi clan was like the lotus flowers.  The sun’s rays were radiant.  His jewellery was like the sun’s rays.  He wore yellow clothes and looked really radiant.  His clothes covered his body like his body was covering the Gyaan inside him.

Guru ji tied a Cheera Dastaar, which looked really radiant.  He had a pearl necklace around his neck.  Everyone stole glimpses of Guru ji’s face. Guru ji destroyed the sins of all.  His handsome face was blooming like the lotus in the morning.  He blessed all.  The golden hoops in his ears dangled over his cheeks.  His Bani gave Gyaan to all.  Pitha Kalu ji, Chacha Lalu ji and the Bedis were ready and radiant.  They wore expensive clothes and jewelry.  They all gave donations to beggars.  There was a crowd of beggars.  Pitha Kalu ji and the other Bedis were happy giving the donations.  Many dramas and plays were going on.  The handsome young men laughed and enjoyed themselves.  They were really happy and gave a lot of donations.  The beggars praised everyone after taking the donations.

One person came and spoke after folding his hands: “the food is ready.  Please come and eat.  Please bless us with your presence.”  The Bharaat looked great.  Pitha Kalu ji said to everyone: “let’s go and eat.”  Everyone went to the home of Moola ji.  Guru ji walked slowly along with the Bharaat.  His walk was pleasant and mesmerizing.  His arms were long that went to his knees.  His armlets were great.  He wore golden rings with precious gems.  His teeth looked like diamonds.  His shoulders were high.  His forehead was wide.  It looked like the moon wore bliss.  Everyone came to the home holding hands.  They all praised Guru ji as they came into Baba Mool Chand ji’s home.  Colourful rugs were laid out.  The Bharaat looked great with different colours.  They all sat in lines.  A lot of plates were placed in front.  The cooks brought the food out.  Delicious Pakvaans were plated.  Some were sweet like honey.  Modhaks, ladoos, sev and bhoondi were brought out.  There were pakoras in the yoghurt.  Amriteeya, Khurma, sugar was in great quantities.  Raisons, almonds, coconuts and pistachios were put in the sweets.  As per the Vedic traditions, 5 morsels of food were first taken out.  Everyone ate after that.  The women sat in the balconies and sang songs.  They sang Sithineeya, which made everyone happy.  The Bharaatis placed money in their plates (for the dishwashers) and got up to leave.  Everyone came back to their place of rest.

Guru Nanak Dev ji was taken into the home by some women.  The women were beautiful who walked like the elephant and were radiant like lightening.  Their faces were like the moon.  They joked around with Guru ji, the giver of joy.  The women looked with a sharp sight.  The great Munnis’ Tapp would be destroyed by seeing these women.  Kamadeva took on many forms and shot many arrows towards Guru ji.  He tried his best to capture Gyaan but not one arrow affected Guru ji.  The young women did the traditions of the family.  They looked at Guru ji’s handsome face.  They engrained his groom-form in their hearts.  Guru ji spoke soft and priceless words.  Guru ji’s words were the givers of Mukti.  His eyes were like the lotus.  His heart was the home of compassion.  Wherever he would look, peace would flow.  His handsome face was the home of beauty.  He dispelled pain, everywhere he looked.  The women in the middle of the home were like Kamadeva.  Guru ji left the home and came back to the resting place.  There was Mehndi on his hands and feet, red like a lotus flower, which was like pollen, compassion.  He wore yellow clothes.  He wore a Janyow which was radiant.  His golden bracelets and armlets were beautiful.  He wore a long pearl necklace.  He was like the form of peace, decorated in the world.

In the middle of the Bharaat, Guru ji looked radiant.  He was like the Mani stone in the middle of gold.  The court of Bedis was in session.  Guru ji was radiant.  Inder within the court of Devatas was embarrassed by this.  The professional singers and dancers came to the court.  Their hairs were done with a split in the middle of the head.  They came to the court.  The musicians came and played.  The dancers wore bells around their ankles and wastes.  With bells, Mridangs, dholkis and other instruments, the Taal (beats) were met with the Raags and Raginis, which captivated the heart.

The singer woman sang with cleverness and began to dance.  The bells rang as she moved.  She made different dancing positions.  She would go up and down quickly.  She moved her arms in elegant ways.  She danced to beats and stole everyone’s hearts.  Her form was young and beautiful.  She was flexible and danced with agility.  Her walk was carefree.  Her body was beautiful.  She walked with a playful nature.  She bent as she danced.  The Mridang made deep bass noises.  The dancer stomped to the beat.  Her braid hung, which had oil in it.  Her braid was long like a black snake.  She was like a magician as she danced.  She used her clothes to make actions.  The waste bells were mesmerizing and captivated everyone’s attention.  The people watching were still like pictures on the walls.  Their senses were gone.  They focused on the court.  Their sights were fixed on the dancer.  They all forgot about time and place.  Satguru ji looked at the dancer and smiled.  He saw the play of the world like a magician’s illusion.  Guru ji was unaffected by anything.

Guru ji gave money to the dancer in joy.  He was the moon of the Bedis who was the giver of Mukti.  He was forever in the Bliss of Brahm.  He was in the “Brahmanand.”  For 3 days the Bharaat stayed in Randhawa.  This Katha is beautiful.  It has been stated as it happened.  A person came to the Bharaatis to call them.  Pitha Kalu ji, Chacha Lalu ji, Baba Parmanand ji and the other Bedis came to Baba Moola ji’s home.  They were really happy.  Pots, jewelry, clothes which were beautiful pashminas and silks; horses loaded with gifts, camels with gifts; these were all given as the dowry.  Gold and silver were given.  A maid was sent for Mata Sulakhani ji’s service.  Sarpanch Hitha gave gifts as well.  They gathered gifts and gave it.  Every one of the village got together and were humble in front of Guru ji.  Baba Mool Chand ji said to Pitha ji with humility: “my daughter is your servant.  I have nothing more to serve you with.  You are great in the world.  You are deserving.”  They were both happy with each other.  The traditions were done.  Both sides were happy.  Both sides had love.  Hitha Sarpanch had warned Baba Mool Chand ji not to speak harshly, so he was fine.

The wife of Baba Mool Chand ji became sentimental and began to cry.  She hugged her daughter.  Other friends came to meet Mata Sulakhani ji.  Where she was seated, it was a Dholi.  It was taken ahead and everyone followed.  The Kamal Nain was seated in a palanquin.  Money was showered over their heads.  I have stated the history of the wedding.

The young and old from both sides praised the wedding.  They met each other and said: “we have never seen such a great wedding before.  It was very joyful.”

In this way, the praises spread.  The Bharaat started to go back home, slowly.  They stopped along the way as they came.

1-23 Coming to Talwandi After The Wedding

Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji made Sumer Mountains out of grains of sand; and grains of sands out of mountains.  He is the greatest donor.  I bow to his feet.

Sri Bala Sandhur Vaach..

The Bharaat came close to the city.  Its radiance was great.  The Turreeyas, Pattas and Nagaras were played.  The people of the city heard the sounds.  Just as the peacocks would dance hearing the thundering clouds in the Paavas season, that is how the people of the city felt after hearing the sounds of the instruments.  The people came to Bebe Nanaki ji’s home to give her their congratulations.  The women of the city wore new clothes and jewellery to see the Bharaat.  They came in groups.  They came to the home to congratulate Bebe Nanaki ji.  The women wanted to see the new bride, Mata Sulakhani ji.  They said to Bebe Nanaki ji: “we want to see the new bride.”  The Bharaat came into the Sultanpur city.  It was like a cloud of joy entering the city.  The bride and groom were at the front.  Chacha Lalu Chand ji threw money over them.  In this way, the gem of the Bedis came slowly into the house of Bebe Nanaki ji.  Bebe Nanaki ji and the other women did the family traditions.  She brought her sister-in-law into the home with respect.  She had her sit in the middle of the beautiful home.  She gave her a sash full of money.  Bebe Nanaki ji was very happy.  Her heart was happy.  Mata Sulakhani ji wore golden jewellery.  The women were happy to see this.  They gave her their blessings.  The Bharaatis all sat in the home.  Baba Parmanand ji had his son and daughter-in-law serve the Bharaat.  Bhaiya Jai Ram ji had food made.  The Bharaat spent 2 nights in Sultanpur.

Pitha Kalu ji then said: “Nanak ji’s mother, who is full of love, is eager to see her son and daughter-in-law.  She is waiting for us.  We need to fulfill her wishes.  The whole Bharaat should fulfil her wish.  We should go to Talwandi to meet your mother, Nanak ji.  Rai Bhullaar ji wishes to meet you too.  He told me to have you come to Talwandi after the wedding.  You should stay there for a few days and come back here to continue your work.  Parmanand ji, what do you think if Nanak ji goes home for a few days?”  Bhaiya Jai Ram ji looked towards Guru Nanak Dev ji and spoke quickly to his father-in-law: “Pitha Kalyan ji, if you take him to Talwandi, the work of the Modikhana won’t continue.  The give-and-take is really busy and hard.  Without Nanak ji, nobody else can take care of it.  There is a lot of stock in the Modikhana.  The account with the Navaab is done by Nanak ji.  Who else would do it?  Kamal Nain doesn’t seem to wish to go either.  How can he go home?”  Pitha ji heard Bhaiya Jai Ram ji’s words void of love and said: “listen son, your mother wishes to see her daughter-in-law.  When she sees you, she will be really happy.  Let’s go to Talwandi once.  You can go where you wish to go, after.  You can stay there or here if you want to.  Rai Bhullaar loves you a lot.  He bowed to you with his two hands folded.  If you don’t think of my love for you in your heart, don’t go for me; but do consider your mother’s love and Rai Bhullaar’s.”  They went back and forth for a while.  They had a bit of an argument.  Baba Moola ji had come as it had been 3 days since the marriage.  He came for the love of his daughter.  He came to take his daughter back home once, known as the “phera.”  He came to Bhaiya Jai Ram ji’s home and bowed.  He heard the argument and said: “Sri Nanak ji should stay in Sultanpur and continue his work.  There is no one smarter than him to do the work.  He balances the huge ledgers by himself.”  Baba Parmanand ji was wise.  Every wise person in Sultanpur listened to him.  He spoke words of love: “listen everyone, I will tell you the tradition.  Nanak ji’s mother has only one son.  Her son just got married.  She wishes to see her son and daughter-in-law.  She has been waiting for you.  It is like an anxious cow looking for her calf.  If she can’t meet her son at such a happy time, that would be an unjust act.  You are all smart.  This would be a bad thing.  Mool Chand ji, your daughter hasn’t gone to her mother-in-law’s home yet.  When the mother sees her new daughter-in-law, she will be calm.  She can get her blessings for a few days.  She can bow to her feet and come back to Sultanpur.  Nanak ji doesn’t need to stay in Talwandi since he is the Modi of Sultanpur.  Bala can stay here.  He can work in the meantime.  Nanak ji can come back and continue his work.”  Hearing Parmanand ji’s wise words, everyone agreed and stayed quiet.

Guru Angad Dev ji, after making the decisions, I was called.  The Compassionate One said: “I am going to Talwandi.  You will stay here and do the work of the Modi.  Spend without a doubt.  Don’t think about anything.  I will come back and figure out the accounts.”  Listen Guru Angad Dev ji, I said to Guru Nanak Dev ji: “the give-and-take is a great and difficult task.  I won’t be able to handle it.  The accounts are too detailed.  Only you can do this work.  I wish to stay with you all the time.  If there was someone like you, only that person could do the work of the Modi.”  The Radiant One said words of Amrit: “Bala, you will always be with me.  I will be with you your whole life.  You have the love of Akaal Purakh in your heart.  This will cut the bonds of rebirth.  Kartaar will do everything.  Don’t worry about anything.  My beloved friend, just stand in the Modikhana.  I will come back after 1 month.  Stay happy till then.”  I heard this and was at peace.  I said: “I am your servant.  Please be compassionate and give me this boon: I don’t ever want to disobey you.  I wish to remain faithful and obedient towards you.  This is my wish.”  Guru ji heard this and said: “may your mind remain drenched in the love for the Prabhoo.”  He then got ready to go to Talwandi.  The whole Bharaat went with him.

I did the work of the Modi while Guru ji was gone.  The Lodhi Navaab gave me whatever I needed for the expenses.  The stock was in abundance.  I did the work.  Many people came and I did the work easily.  I never got tired.  I didn’t see what happened in Talwandi.  I didn’t see the joy.  I will tell you what I heard.  Guru Angad Dev ji, you are the Giver of Joy.  I will tell you what happened in Talwandi from what I heard.

Guru ji and the Bharaat came to Talwandi with a lot of instruments playing.  The Bharaat looked like an ocean of joy.  The people of Talwandi got ready to see the Bharaat.  The women wore their jewellery and new clothes.  They wore gold.  The beautiful women came out, who were radiant.  They looked like the fire in the sea.  The radiance of the Bharaat was like the moonlight of the full moon.  The Bharaat wore jewellery.  They looked like stars.  The Giver of Mukti was in bliss.  His words were Amrit.  He was like the full moon.  Everyone was eager to see him.  The people rejoiced like the waves in the sea.  People left the city like the sea leaving the shore.  They came out of the city.  They saw the Bharaat and couldn’t get enough.  They were really happy.  They looked at Guru ji like the Chakors.  They had seen the Joy-Giver after a long time.  They were thirsty to see Guru ji.  In this way, the Bharaat came and entered the city.  Where the square in the market was, Guru ji came there with the Bharaat.  Pitha ji and Chacha ji threw money over him.  It was raining money.  The men and women sang the praises of Guru ji.  They came close to the home.  Many congratulations were given.  Mata Tripta ji was really happy.  She wanted to see her son and daughter-in-law.

Guru ji came home.  Mata ji threw a lot of money over their heads.  She did the family traditions and circumvented water over the heads of her son and daughter-in-law.  She said: “son, I am a sacrifice unto you.  You have blessed the home and family.”  Mata Sulakhani ji bowed her head to Mata Tripta ji’s feet.  Mata Tripta ji gave her a lot of blessings.  She hugged her with joy.  She saw her face and was happy.  The married women of the Bedis came to see Mata Sulakhani ji’s face.  Her face was pleasant.  Their bodies could not contain their joy.  Mata ji saw her son and daughter-in-law and noticed how beautiful they were.  She took salt and mustard seeds along with grass blades; and threw them over their heads to ward off evil eyes.  Guru ji was the destroyer of pain.  Guru ji met everyone with love.  He respected everyone.  He sat in a meeting with his relatives.  He spoke with everyone and exchanged pleasantries.  They all spoke with love.  Guru ji was sweet and calm.  He was handsome.  Everyone praised him.  Guru ji sat for an hour and then got up.  Everyone else went home as well.

Pitha Kalu ji said: “son, we should go to Rai Bhullaar ji to meet him.”  Guru ji went with Chacha Lalu ji and his father to go see Rai Bhullaar ji, where Rai Bhullaar ji’s court was.  Rai Bhullaar ji was asking about the wedding, when Guru ji arrived.  Guru ji destroyed the separation in Rai Bhullaar ji’s heart.  He was filled with love.  He got goosebumps in joy.  He got up and saw the moon-like face of Guru ji.  He looked at him like a Chakor.  He came close and bowed to Guru ji’s feet.  Guru ji was going to bow to Rai Bhullaar ji, seeing him as the elder.  Rai Bhullar ji stopped him and hugged him.  He began to shed tears.  He asked how Guru ji was and both became emotional.  Both knew each other’s love.  Rai Bhullar ji had Guru ji sit on his bed.  Guru ji insisted not to but Rai Bhullaar ji forced him to.  Rai Bhullar ji wanted to see Guru ji for a long time.  He was drinking his Darshan with his eyes.  For a half an hour, nobody said anything.  They looked at each other with love.  They basked in each other’s love.  Rai Bhullaar ji then asked about the wedding.  His mind was pure.  Baba Mardana ji was there too.  He said: “oh king, with your blessing, our glory was praised in Sultanpur.  Men and women sang the praises in every home.  Whatever was needed, Daulat Khan gave.  We got a lot of things from him.  The Bharaat left from there.  The meeting was done with joy.  Baba Kalu ji spent a lot of money.  There was a lot of celebrations.  Both families had a lot of love.  They all wanted their praises.  I have seen many weddings.  Brahmins, Kshatriyas and Vaishyas had many big weddings.  No wedding compares to this one.  There was so much joy in this wedding.”  Rai Bhullar ji was happy to hear this.  He said: “Shaabaash, Kalu ji!”  The gem of the Bedis spent some time there and came home.

Mata Tripta ji made many delicacies.  She sat by her son with love.  She fed him the food.  The Compassionate One ate as much as he wished.  He ate and then laid on his soft bed.  He slept at around 9 pm.  He then woke up at 2:30 am.  He slowly bathed and did his daily cleansing routines.  He wore beautiful clothes.  The sun soon came up.  Guru ji sat in his beautiful home.  Guru ji sent a servant to call for Pandit Hardyal ji.  When Pandit ji came, Guru ji said: “whatever is in your heart, ask for it.  Don’t hold back.  Don’t be shy.”  Pandit Hardyal ji said: “you are the reason for creation.  You are the giver.  Whatever knowledge you allowed; I have understood your greatness.  I am not like the people of the world.  The other people see you as a normal human.  You are the cause, the effort and the doer.  The whole creation is because of you.  You are Parmeshwar, the Parbrahm and the ancient one.  You are the Master and without beginnings.  You are Sat (infinite), Chetan (consciousness) and Anand (bliss).  You are the giver of Mukti.  Your drama gives joy to the Bhagats.  Since you gave me the real Janyow, I have been in bliss.  I know that you are the Kartaar.  My desires have been destroyed.  My wishes have been fulfilled.  I have seen your drama.  I am old now.  Oh wise one, give me Jeevan Mukti.”  Guru ji heard the words of Bhagti and laughed.  The Compassionate One said: “oh Brahmin.  You are great!  You are wise!  You discarded the ego and pride of your body.  Your age is almost done.  You will receive Mukti.  You will leave your body easily; like an elephant breaking a flower garland with little effort.  You will go to Hari with ease.”  Guru ji gave him money and blessed him.  Pandit ji received the Gyaan and saw his real form.  He saw his Aatma.  He lost his ego of being the Jeev.  He went home with bliss.  He received the priceless bliss.  His faith was deep now.  It was not going to waiver.

The Pandha, Vaid and the Maulana came to where the giver of Mukti was sitting.  They wanted to see Guru ji with joy.  They had been coloured with Satsangat.  When they saw the son of Kalu ji, they all came to bow to Guru ji’s feet.  They saw the infinite and beautiful form.  They couldn’t say anything due to emotion.  Kamal Nain ji had them sit with respect.  They exchanged pleasantries.  They gathered their patience and spoke to Guru ji by praising him: “the Kaliyuga is an ocean of fire.  It is fierce.  Who can swim across it?  The Jeevs are doing sinful acts and burning in its fire.  People can’t be saved.  Where people are being burnt, the bridge of Naam, you took an Avatar to build it.  The ones who don’t have good karma have no feet.  The unwise are blind.  To control the mind and senses, the ones who can’t, they are without hands.  The ones who are on your bridge, will cross with ease.  We always think and wait for you to illuminate the Gyaan in the world.  You have hidden your powers.  The unwise see you as a human.”  After speaking such beautiful words, they drank the Darshan of Guru ji with their eyes.  They met him with love and then went to their homes.  They had Bhagti in their heart and were with peace.

Guru ji’s childhood friends came to see Guru ji.  They praised Guru ji amongst themselves.  They were with love and bliss.  They looked at Guru ji without blinking.  They spent their whole days with Guru ji as kids.  They came to Guru ji everyday now too.  They came everyday with a new joy in their hearts.  In this way, the master of the world did this drama in Talwandi.  He was with joy.

1-24 Coming back to Sultanpur from Talwandi

The Guru’s Gurbani is the river of bliss which washes away the illnesses and ignorance.  It is white as it is Satoguni.  Gurbani is like the swan, which makes the Mansarovar (Satsangat) radiant.  The wise people have praised it.  The whole world knows it.  It is the moonlight which cools down the fire of attachment.  It gives joy and bliss to all.  It is the queen of love and the mother of Gyaan.  Many have composed Bani but the Guru’s Bani is the supreme.  It is the Guru of the Gurus.

Sri Bala Sandhur Vaach..

Guru Nanak Dev ji lived in Talwandi with peace.  His praises were sung in every home.  People met Guru ji and praised him.  They sang his praises over-and-over again.  They said: “his words and his personality are soft and sweet.  He has no ego or other vices.  He is altruistic.  He is generous.  He is a saint.  He is calm and serene.  He is compassionate and handsome.  The desires and vices did not take root in him.  He is detached from joy and sorrow.  He went to Sultanpur and earned a lot of money.  He has no shortage.  He gives a lot of donations to the poor.  His praises have spread everywhere.”  In this way, Guru Nanak Dev ji spent time in Talwandi for 1 month.  The praise of the “Giver of Mukti” spread.  Guru ji then got ready to go back to Sultanpur.  He thought of Rai Bhullar ji’s love and went to him.

Rai Bhullaar ji was alone when Guru Nanak Dev ji came to him.  Guru ji sat close to Rai Bhullaar ji.  The Rai folded his hands and said: “seeing you, I am in joy.  You are the crown of Brahmgyaan.  You are full of powers and the mine of virtues.  I am stuck in the worldly ways.  The pain of the world bothers me.  I wish to receive wisdom from you.  Why do you not see me as deserving?  I come to your sanctuary.  Why do you not cut my bonds and immerse me into you?  Guru Nanak Dev ji said: “do the Simran of Satnam which is the home of joy.  An arrow that has the feather of the Humayun bird, the arrow flies back to the land of the Humayun birds.  It does not come back to earth.  That is how the Naam is.  If one does Simran with full attention, day and night, they go to the Parmeshwar after leaving their body.  One will go to the land of the One you are doing Simran of, without delay.  The person will not get a body in this world again, who falls in love with Satnam.”  Rai Bhullar ji heard this and became still in Simran.  The great love flourished inside his heart.  His ego was destroyed.  He was now calm.  He became humble and said: “I wish to have your Darshan.  You will go to Sultanpur so I am feeling sad.  I am in pain.”  Seeing the true love, the Lotus-bodied one said: “keep me in your heart.  I am always close to you.”  He gave him hope and came to his home.

Guru ji met Mata Tripta ji with a deep love.  It was like a cow meeting her calf after a long time.  She kissed Guru ji’s forehead and gave him many blessings.  She prayed to the Master of the Universe for her son’s joy and prosperity: “you are compassionate.  Protect my child.”  Guru ji was Parmeshwar but bowed to his mother’s feet.  He then left his home.  His friends came to meet him.  They touched his feet and went to their homes.  Guru ji got on top of his vehicle.  He was omniscient who knew every heart.  When he was leaving, Pitha Kalu ji gave him instructions on how to earn money: “listen son, you are married now.  You have many tasks to do.  You should earn and save a lot of money as you have to spend for your family.  Let go of your generosity of the past.  Ghristi people make efforts to earn money for their families.  You need to do the same.  The rich person is respected everywhere and considered the leader.  People call rich people wise.  Even fools are considered wise if they have money.  Everyone treats the rich person well.  Without money, nothing can be done.  Money is like the Pranas for the body.  The whole world depends on money.  A Sarovar without water does not look good; that is what a person looks like without money.  Farming cannot be done without rain clouds; business cannot be done without money.”  After giving all these instructions, Guru ji said: “I will do as you say.  They are good instructions.”  Guru ji bowed to his father’s feet and went on his way.  The Dispeller of pain travelled to Sultanpur.

Mata Sulakhani ji bowed to her mother-in-law’s feet.  Mata Tripta ji met her with love.  She gave her many blessings: “may you stay Suhaagan and be with joy.  May you be the mother of a fortunate son.  May the love for your husband remain in your heart forever.”  Mata Sulakhani ji got into her palanquin and set off.  Mata Sulakhani ji did not want to leave and neither did Mata Tripta ji want her to go.

The Generous One soon came to Sultanpur.  Bebe Nanaki ji and Bhaiya Jai Ram ji saw Guru ji and Mata Sulakhani ji coming.  They became happy and came to meet them.  Guru ji was going to bow to his sister but Bebe Nanaki ji grabbed his hands.  They came into the home and asked each other how they were.  The messages and gifts were given.  Mata Sulakhani ji entered the home as well.  Bebe Nanaki ji was happy to see her sister-in-law.  They bowed and hugged each other.  It was like the meeting of the 9 Niddhis for a poor person.  A bed was laid out in the home.  A nice sheet was laid on the bed.  Mata Sulakhani ji was seated on it.

Listen Guru Angad Dev ji, I was at the shop when I heard of Guru ji coming back.  I wanted to see him so I went to see the Bedi gem.  When I saw Guru Nanak Dev ji, I bowed to his feet.  He said to me: “may your heart be instilled in Kartaar’s Simran.”  He asked me how I was.  I said: “I am well because you have destroyed my pain.  I think of you all the time and therefore I am saved from the 3 types of illnesses (Aadhi, Biaadhi and Upaadhi).”  The people of the village who loved Guru ji, came to see him and bowed to him.  The Giver of Joy respected everyone.  We spent a whole day like this.  It was evening and it became dark.  Bebe Nanaki ji made delicious foods.  She was happy that her brother was home.  She sat with us and made sure we ate.  At night, Guru ji slept.

Guru ji woke up at 2:30 am.  His Darshan gives everyone joy.  He did his daily cleansing routines and took a bath.  He sat in a Samadhi and connected to his real from.  When the sun came up, he opened his eyes and went to his shop.  He sat down and did the work of a Modi again.  He did the give-and-take that was required.

After a few days, Baba Mool Chand ji came to get his daughter for the Phera.  He stayed for 2 days in Sultanpur and took his daughter home.  He slowly came to his home.  Baba Moola ji was really happy.  Guru ji was generous and gave donations as he did before.  He was the Ocean of Joy.  Just as the Ganga flows towards the east and never towards the west; just as it is the Sun’s Dharma to destroy the darkness; that is how Guru ji destroyed the pain and troubles of the poor.  He saved his servants and fulfilled his Dharma.  Just as the Kalapbrish has a great personality to fulfill the wishers wishes; that is how Guru ji gave to the poor.  He gave them what they asked for.  Daulat Khan gave less to spend but Guru ji gave a lot.  In the whole day, he didn’t do anything but give donations.  The virtue had taken an Avatar as a body to sit as the Modi.  It destroyed hunger and nakedness in Sultanpur.  There was no one poor or hungry in Sultanpur.  The men and women of the city were surprised to see Guru ji give so much donations.  They all made estimates that Guru ji had some sort of Rasayan to make gold out of metal.  They said: “he gives donations that’s why he makes a profit.”  Some said: “he is full of powers.”  Some said: “he must have a philosopher’s stone.”  Some said: “he has a boon from the Devatas to give donations.”  Some said: “he has some tantric techniques.”  Some said: “he is a complete Bhagat of the Parmeshwar.  That’s why his stock is never in shortage.”  Some said: “he has Siddhis and powers.  He gives donations to the poor quickly by them.”  The ones who were blessed by Guru ji, their Avidya (doubts/ignorance) was destroyed.  They knew that it was Parmeshwar himself sitting at the Modikhana.  The Parmeshwar came as an Avatar to destroy the pains.”  They would come to see Guru ji with devotion.  Their attachments and doubts were destroyed.  If someone would come to learn wisdom, they would listen to Guru ji.  There doubts were destroyed (they understood that they were not the body).

In this way, a month passed.  Guru ji did not let any poor person leave sad.  Bebe Nanaki ji thought to herself: “my brother’s wife should come back.  She needs to take care of the home.  Without her, the home’s tradition cannot be fulfilled.”  She thought in this way and said to her husband: “send a wise Laagi and call back my brother’s wife.”  Bhaiya Jai Ram ji called a wise Laagi and send him to Baba Mool Chand ji’s home.

The Laagi came to Baba Mool Chand ji’s home and gave him the message.  Mata Chando Rani ji ran to her daughter and became filled with love.  She packed her luggage and gathered gifts.  Mata Sulakhani ji was the form of the Devi.  She bowed to her parents and got in her palanquin.  She took a maid with her and came to Sultanpur.  She came and bowed to Bebe Nanaki ji’s feet.  Bebe Nanaki ji blessed her and had her sit in the home.  For many days, she spent time in the home.  A separate home was built on the property for Guru Nanak Dev ji.  The new home was cool in the summer and warm in the cold.  Pots, pans, dishes and other household items were kept in the home.  Ghee, salt, sugar and flour was kept in the home in abundance.  Bebe Nanaki ji had arranged for all this.  She also gave jewellery with gold and gems.  Bebe Nanaki ji was very happy to see her brother’s home.  The Lotus-body would spend all day and night at the shop.  He wouldn’t come home.  If he would come home, he wouldn’t speak to Mata Sulakhani ji.  He did not show any love towards her.  The customers and poor people would always gather at the Modikhana.  Guru ji didn’t bring any money home.  He only gave donations.  He was great at giving donations.  He started this tradition for Sikhi.  There was always a crowd at the Modikhana.  Guru ji gave without laziness, day and night.  The wise ones would praise Guru ji.  Some were jealous.

Mata Sulakhani ji would get upset when someone would slander Guru ji.  She would see the shop and get angry at the way Guru ji behaved.  She thought to herself: “he doesn’t know the needs of the home.  He gives donations outside of the home.  He doesn’t save any money.  He keeps giving it away.  The things needed for Ghrist requires money.  There are many expenses.  If a Ghristi has money, they can do their tasks but my husband doesn’t think about that.  Whatever comes to him he gives it away.  He doesn’t think about saving anything.  Nobody stops him.  They all listen to him.”  Mata Sulakhani ji thought about this all day and all night.  She was upset all the time.  She was angry.  She would go to Bebe Nanaki ji sometimes and say to her in anger: “why don’t you speak to your brother?  How will his Ghrist go forward?  He doesn’t come home to show himself.  He gives away all of the money.  He is a big donor.”  Bebe Nanaki ji heard this from her sister-in-law with respect.  She spoke to her with sweet and calming words as she understood the way of the world: “whatever he says, you should do.  Whatever he does, be happy with him.  He is smart in every way.  What can we tell him?  He is already wise.  Let go of your bad thoughts about him.  Be obedient towards him.  Whatever item you wish for, tell me.  I will get it for you.  It is good to be obedient.  You will be in joy and peace.”  When Mata Sulakhani ji heard the sweet words of Bebe Nanaki ji, she went quiet.  Mata Sulakhani ji went to her own home.  She was worried though.  She spent a lot of time like this.  She remained quiet.

1-25 Moola and Chando Rani come and get Angry

Her face is beautiful like the moon; she destroys the bad wisdom; she brings prosperity and progress; She is the form of Ooma (Prabhati), Bani (Sarasvati) and Rama (Lakshmi); I bow to her; the Goddess of Vidya, Gurbani.

Sri Bala Sandhur Vaach..

After a while, Baba Mool Chand ji came to meet his daughter.  As soon as he came into the home of his daughter, love overflowed in his heart.  Mata Sulakhani ji got up, seeing her father.  She began to shed tears.  She hugged her father and began to cry.  Her pain and love were together.  Her clothes were wet by her tears.  It was like she was washing her pain away.  She had her father sit.  She sat with him and began to tell her father the pain she was going through.  The tears kept flowing.  She was without hope.  She took deep breaths as she cried.  She said: “listen Pithaji, who did you marry me off to?  He has no worries towards the home.  By marrying me off to him, you have drowned me.  I must have done some bad deeds in my last birth.  He stays out of the house for a month or two and never shows his face in the home.  He comes at home like a visitor from a foreign land.  He is without any love.  The big profit that he makes from the shop, he donates it all to the Fakirs.  He doesn’t fear anyone.  His brother-in-law, sister or friends don’t say anything to him.  They all fear him.  He doesn’t do anything that Ghrist people should do.  He is opposite to it.  This house is for nothing.  The Fakirs and Sadhoos is who he wishes to meet.  He doesn’t care about the home.  He doesn’t ask if I need anything.  Since the day I came, he hasn’t respected me.  I carry this pain in my heart.”  Hearing his daughter’s painful words, Baba Mool Chand ji began to shed tears.  His heart burned in anger.  He was regretting his daughter’s relationship.  Guru Angad Dev ji, Pitha Kalu ji’s anger was nothing in front of Baba Moola ji’s anger.  He was a really angry person.  He didn’t know the purity and greatness of Sri Guru Nanak ji.  Baba Moola ji gave hope to his daughter.  He got up in anger and went to Bhaiya Jai Ram ji.

Bhaiya Jai Ram ji was sitting with Guru Nanak Dev ji.  Baba Moola ji came, they met him with respect and had him sit.  Baba Moola ji said harsh words: “Listen Jai Ram, you are my enemy.  We seem to have some enmity from our last births, that’s why you put me in this state.  This relative of yours meets with Fakirs.  I am sure he will become a Fakir one day.  This is what he wishes to do.  The wise people say that you become like your company.  You stay with the type of people that you like.  If you already knew about his personality, why did you marry him to my daughter?  He makes a lot of money from the shop but gives it all to the Fakirs.  My daughter told me this.  I must have sinned in my previous births.  This is the reason this person is our relative who gives us pain.  Since the day my daughter came, he hasn’t respected her or loved her.  Nobody has told him anything either.  My daughter lives humbly in pain.  She told me everything.”  Baba Mool Chand ji spoke harshly and angrily.  Baba Jai Ram ji said: “don’t get angry Mehta ji (a term used for respected administrators, as was used to call Mehta Kalu ji).  Don’t accuse us of wrongdoing.  Your daughter has no shortage for anything.  The Parmeshwar has given everything to your daughter.  She has good clothes, food and jewellery.  She has a lot of money.  She eats well and spends well.  Tell me if there is any shortage.  Tell me and I will get it.”  Bhaiya Jai Ram ji spoke sweetly.  Baba Mool Chandi ji calmed down.  His anger was extinguished like fire by rain.  Bhaiya Jai Ram ji’s words were like water.  Kamal Nain ji remained quiet.  Observing Baba Mool Chand ji as the same level as his father, he didn’t say anything to him.

Baba Mool Chand ji stayed with his daughter for 1 day.  He gave her hope and blessed her: “you will be happy.  Don’t worry.”  He went back home.  He told his wife, Mata Chando Rani ji, everything.  After a few days, Mata Chando Rani ji came to see her daughter.  She hugged her cried.  Mata Sulakhani ji cried as well.  She spoke words of pain: “oh Vidhata, why did you make the woman?  She is always dependant on others.  She takes a birth and stays in worry all her life.”  Mata Sulakhani ji then sat down with her mother.  She said to her mother: “listen Mata ji to the interesting thing.  My husband spends the money he makes at the shop.  What can I say?  I see him after a month.  He sometimes shows his face, otherwise he stays at the shop.  He hasn’t done anything about his Ghrist responsibilities.  He should collect money.”  Mata Chando Rani ji got angry, hearing this.  Her wisdom was wrapped in anger.  She went to Bebe Nanaki ji to speak to her.

Mata Chando Rani ji went to Bebe Nanaki ji and asked how she was.  She then said: “you don’t fear the Parmeshwar.  You have made you own rules.  You have kept my daughter like a maid.  You don’t guide your brother at all to see how my daughter is.  He spends all of the money on Fakirs and beggars.  You have no compassion.  My daughter is in pain after marriage.  Jai Ram ji requested the relation and now he doesn’t guide your brother.  Your brother stays in the shop and never comes home.  If he does come home, he doesn’t say anything.  He earns the money but doesn’t keep it.  He has no fear for anyone.”  Bebe Nanaki ji heard this and thought: “if a fool gets a gem in their hand, they think it’s just a rock.  She spoke sweetly: “listen Massi, you are very wise.  What can I tell my brother?  He doesn’t do anything bad.  He doesn’t meet thieves to steal.  He doesn’t gamble nor does he drink alcohol.  He doesn’t go to prostitutes or other women.  He has won his desires.  He is not greedy, angry nor is he a cheater.  Desires don’t come to him even in his dreams.  He doesn’t do anything wrong for which I need to guide him.  If he did, I would say something.  I have seen his good personality since he was born.  He is calm and serene.  He does not have any faults.  Not even a little bit.  He is calm and full of compassion.  He gives clothes and food to the poor.  He is a generous person.  He can’t see anyone in pain.  He is the giver of joy.  He is like the tree that keeps giving shade and fruit.  He is altruistic.  The tree takes the fiery sunrays and heat on its head.  It stays humble in cold and rain.  It gives shade and a place for birds to build their nest.  In this way, my brother earns money and gives food to the saints.  My brother is the form of Bhagti.  The Brahm Gyaan came in a beautiful body.  If a person does good deeds, whoever stops him is an unfortunate person.  The Vidhatta has rewarded you with a son-in-law like my brother.  He has blessed many families.  My brother is calm and has destroyed his desires and vices.  There is no one more generous than him.  His praise has spread that: he is the destroyer of pain.  His accounts have never been in the deficit.  He made a profit many times in his accounting.  You say that your daughter is in pain; tell me, what shortage does she have?  How did determine that see is in pain?  She has everything she needs.  She has money to spend and food to eat.  She has clothes and foods of many kinds.  She has beautiful jewellery.  Look how much gold she has to wear.  She has not one worry of the home.  Whatever she wishes for, we can get for her.  You are bothering my brother with false allegations.  What will we do with false allegations?  Listen Massi about these interesting things.  If we argue back with you, just as you did, this would be bad.”  Mata Chando Rani ji heard this and went quiet.  She didn’t know what to say.  It was like an unwise person staying quiet in front of a Gyaani person.  She was embarrassed and came back to her daughter’s home.

Mata Chando Rani ji sat down and said to her daughter: “listen daughter, I spoke to your sister-in-law and told her everything.  I told her that you are in pain.  She spoke true words that made me quiet.  I couldn’t think of anything to say to her.  She says that you have no shortages.”  Mata Sulakhani ji heard this and said: “listen wise mother: clothes, food and jewellery I have.  I have been given everything by my husband.  I have no shortages.  I tell you the pain of my heart.  My husband has never come home with love.  He does not speak to me with joy and laughter.  Who should I tell my pain to?  Who will understand me so my pain goes away?  I am in worry, day and night.  My heart burns in pain.”  Hearing the words of her daughter, Mata Chando ji understood what her daughter was implying.  She went back to Bebe Nanaki ji and told her.

Bebe Nanaki ji said: “Massi ji listen, your daughter’s personality is harsh.  When I call her to me, she never comes.  If she does come, once in a while, she has anger in heart and argues with me.  I stay quiet, seeing her as my Parjai (sister-in-law married to the brother).  I spend my time in silence, hoping she will get wiser.  She is a from a good Kshatriya family.  I don’t say anything to her.  I give her respect.  I want to see her happy.  That would make me happy.”  Mata Chando Rani ji said: “If a husband speaks nicely, even if the wife is without money and clothes, she is still happy and in joy.  She would sleep in joy.  If you have everything but the husband doesn’t speak or give respect; it’s like a cloud without rain.  Those clouds are useless.  My daughter said that he never shows his face in the home.  He spends the whole day and night at the shop.  If he does come home, he doesn’t speak to her.  Think about it yourself.  What if your husband behaved like this to you?”  Bebe Nanaki ji heard this and spoke sweetly: “Massi, you speak truth in every way.  Your daughter speaks the truth.  I still say that you should tell your daughter to stay humble and earn Seva by serving him.  The Great Beings are impressed by Seva.  You can get them to do what you want then.  The wise people say this.  The great beings are impressed by humility.  Doing his Seva is never fruitless.  I will fold my hands and speak to my brother.  I am afraid of him though.  You think that I am praising my brother to you for no reason.  I don’t see him as my brother.  I see him as the Parmeshwar.  It is Parmeshwar.  I believe this.  You should trust me, Massi.  He is the one who has destroyed his desires.  He is the saint who is calm.  Whatever he says, becomes true.  That’s why I fear him.  You can go back home in peace.  When my brother comes home, I will give him and his wife hope.  I will make them come to an understanding.”  Bebe Nanaki ji spoke sweetly in this way.  She calmed the angry Mata Chando Rani ji down.  The two spoke with love to each other.  Mata Chando Rani ji then came to her daughter.

Mata Chando Rani ji gave hope to your daughter: “your husband is a very good person.  He is very generous.  He follows the Dharma.  You were given a lot of love in our home that’s why you don’t know how to serve your husband.  Be wise and serve your husband.  If you make him happy, you can get all the joys you wish for.  The women that serve their husband while being obedient, they are happy in this world and in the world hereafter.”  She gave wisdom to her daughter and stayed in Sultanpur for a few days.  She then went back home.  Kavi Santokh Singh ji says: “do the Simran of the Guru’s feet, Santokh Singh, by which the bonds of the life and death cycle is broken.”
