1-6 Blessing a Dewana
The extra possessions that Guru ji had; as many people began to bring him gifts; Guru ji kept them at Sodhi Kaul’s home. Guru ji had the whole Dhera move out. All of the Singhs mobilized. Guru ji travelled casually and hunted on the way. Guru ji practiced using his weapons as he travelled. He blessed and saved many life forms on the way. As he travelled a few Kos, there came a village. Guru ji asked one of the Brars: “what is the name of this village? You know this area well.” The Brar said: “what village? There are only about 4 huts here. What would this village be called? Nobody has heard of this village and nobody says anything.” Sri Guru ji said: “don’t speak like that about this place. After some time, there will be huge village here. Many great warrior Singhs will be born here.” Guru ji travelled on to a higher place and took his horse on to the hill. He took out sharp arrows from his quiver and fired them from his bow. He fired many arrows. Guru ji then came close to a village. He stayed one night there to hunt. He hunted many deer. Guru ji travelled on and came to the villages Kotha (Kotha Guru ka established by Baba Prithi Chand) and Malooka. The Dhera was set up between the two villages. A beautiful tent was set up. Many Singhs sat around Guru ji. They ate and slept the night.
At Amritvela everyone woke up. They bathed and got ready. Guru ji sat in Samadhi, connecting with his real form. When the Amritvela was about an hour and a half in, a Dewana came to Guru ji. The Dewanas were a Sadhoo sub-sect that came out of Baba Prithi Chand’s Minas. They wore a thin hat and rubbed a dark colour to their faces. They kept an Ektara with them and sang Gurbani. The Dewana that came to Guru ji had his head and face all shaved. He came close to Guru ji’s tent and stood there. The Singh on guard came into attention and picked up his weapons. The Dewana stood there and said: “I want to go to Guru ji and wish to do his Darshan.” The Singh said: “it is not the time to meet him now. You can bow to him when it’s day.” The Dewana said: “I will go now! I won’t stop by you telling me to. The Satguru belongs to everyone equally. Who are you to stop me?” The Singh stopped him again: “Guru ji is in his bliss in Samadhi. Why are you being stubborn you fool? Go away if you want what is good for you. If you continue to be stubborn you will be beaten. You are a fool for not understanding what I am saying.” The Dewana became angry and picked up a moosal (thick stick) to hit the Singh. He said: “who can stop me? If you stop me, I will hit you in the head with this moosal.” He came towards the tent. The Singh said: “go back and stay there!” The Dewana came forward but the Singh tried stopping him. The Dewana took the heavy stick to hit the Singh. The Singh took his Kirpan and swung it. The Dewana was hurt on his shoulder. It was a quite deep cut. The Dewana fell unconscious. He laid on the floor, quietly. After about an hour and a half, the Dewana became aware and said: “my death is near. Let me see Guru ji now or my wish to see him will remain unfulfilled.” A Singh heard this and went to Guru ji. He folded his hands and said: “a Dewana got into a fight with a Singh. The Singh got angry and hit the Dewana. He wanted your Darshan.” Guru ji said: “bring him here.” The Singhs brought the Dewana to Guru ji’s tent. The Dewana bowed his head and did Guru ji’s Darshan. The Compassionate One spoke with compassion: “Dewana, do you want life? I can save your life. If life is what you want, that is.” The Dewana did Guru ji’s Darshan and his mind became pure. He folded his hands and said: “I came into your presence. I wish to go to the Parlok while I do your Darshan.” As he said this, his Pranas left his body. He received the highest status. He was Mukat. He went to Sach Khand. His body was brought out. The people of the area were surprised to hear of the event. Some fools spoke bad about the Singh: “look at what a bad deed the Singh did? The Dewana was killed. This is a nice Guru? Nobody does what they just did.” Some said: “the Dewana became stubborn and fought with the Singh. The Singh had to kill him.” Some said: “both belonged to the Guru. The Singh and the Dewana fought and died.”
Sri Prabhoo ji had the Dhera move out from Kotha and Malooka. They travelled and came near the village Chauntra. Guru ji crossed it and came to Jaito. Guru ji set up camp near a Sarovar. He spoke of the greatness of the Sarovar. At night, everyone ate and slept. The Jagat Guru Bhagwan slept the night and left Jaito the next morning. After a few Kos, they came to the village Suniyar. Satguru ji got off his horse. The Dhera was set up. Guru ji rested there. A Dogra named Samma lived there who had a lot of cows. He got happy as he heard of Guru ji’s arrival. He had his cows milked and collected them in many pots. He brought the milk to where Guru ji was sitting. He brought many pots. He bowed and presented the milk pots with respect. He sat near Guru ji’s feet with love and devotion. The Compassionate One spoke with compassion: “your milk will grow a lot.” In this time, Kapoora Jatt was hunting and came to this place. He heard that Guru ji was there. He came there with his army. He got off his horse and came to Guru ji’s feet. He became humble and sat in front of Guru ji. Guru ji looked at him and said: “tell me Kapoor Singh, are you well?” Kapoora was humble and folded his hands. He said: “I am not well. I feel empty. I didn’t listen to your command. I am in trouble from both directions. I am afraid of the Turks on one side. On the other side, I didn’t complete your task. You came without meeting me. You left in anger and didn’t give me your joy. For this reason, I am worried of the troubles that lay before me. How can I say I am well? I can’t spoil it with the Turks. The whole world follows them.” Sri Guru ji saw Kapoora be humble. He was happy and gave Kapoora an expensive Khanda and a shield. Kapoora took the weapons from Prabhoo ji and felt a little happy. He folded his hands and bowed his head. He had to travel far so he quickly got on his horse and left. He didn’t have the will to fight though. Sri Guru ji spoke as Kapoora was leaving: “oh Kapoora, you remained a katoora (puppy) of the Turks after all. You are a coward, vulture and a liar. You didn’t become a warrior by fighting. You were bemukh from the Guru and void of any joy from the roots. When warriors die, they marry the fairies of heaven and are praised. You will be in pain and depressed. How would you have been praised? It was not in your destiny. Your heart is void of courage and patience. How would you destroy the enemy?” Guru ji was speaking out loud with the Singhs. Kapoora heard some of the words but didn’t hear all of them.
During this time, a spy came and said: “Prabhoo ji, the army from Sirhind is approaching. Wajeed Khan is bringing an army of Lakhs to attack. They are almost here. They will be here tomorrow or the day after. They wish to capture you.” Guru ji heard this and had a mounted messenger sent to Kapoora, as he wasn’t too far away yet. He said: “tell Kapoora to send a person who knows this area well. We need a guide. The guide should know of all the places, near and far. There will be a fierce battle with the Turks now. I will destroy them all.” The messenger went and met Kapoora on the way. He gave him Guru ji’s message: “give me a person who knows the area well.” Kapoora had a servant name Khana with him. He knew the area well. Kapoora said to him: “go to Guru ji and stay at the front. Take Guru ji where there is water. If a battle breaks out with the Turks, don’t fight from his side. Avoid the battle. Move around and save yourself. If you can, don’t let Guru ji fight either. Where the Taal of Khidrana is, take Guru ji there. Wherever I am at that time, come back to me or go and mingle with the Turk army. Join them.” Khana understood everything and took some mounted men along with him.
Khana came and met Satguru ji. He folded his hands and bowed to Guru ji. He knew the whole Jungle Desh. Guru ji asked him about the area. Khana told him everything: “Prabhoo ji, there is a Taal of Khidrana nearby that has a little water. There is no other place with water here. I will guide you to that place. You can fight and kill the Turks there. I will go through the Jungle area there. The Turk Army won’t be able to do anything there. They won’t have any water anywhere else. They will become crazy and leave.” After saying this, everyone ate. Guru ji slept the night and woke up the next morning. Guru ji bathed and got ready. His horse was saddled and everyone set off.
1-7 Going Towards Khidrana/ Jugraj Jatt
Sri Satguru ji mounted his horse and set off with Khana. Guru ji faced towards Ramyana Village and set off. As Guru ji travelled a little, Guru ji saw a dense jungle. There was a village there which had a lot of Kareer and Peeloo trees. There was a farmer there who was pulling the fruits from the trees and putting them in his shirt. Satguru ji saw him and went close to him. Guru ji said to him: “what are you doing among the trees here? What are you putting in your shirt?” The farmer said: “I am breaking off the fruit so my family and I can eat.” Sri Prabhoo ji said: “show them to me.” The farmer gave Guru ji one fistful. Guru ji ate some of the fruit. He said: “these are bitter. Throw them away!” The farmer threw a fourth of his fruits away. Guru ji then said: “throw them all away!” The farmer threw away half and kept half. Prabhoo ji spoke again: “throw them all!” The farmer threw some more away. He kept some in his shirt. Guru ji asked: “why aren’t you throwing them all away?” the farmer said: “my family, what will they eat? They are very hungry. We will cook them and eat them. This is how we get by.” Guru ji spoke out loud so everyone heard: “you kept a fourth of the drought. I wanted this area to never have a drought again. I wanted this area to flourish but this farmer deliberately kept a fourth of it. He didn’t obey what I said. If he would have thrown all of the fruits, there would have been many types of crops growing here. This place would have flourished and the crops from here would have fed many other lands. Still, three fourths of this area will flourish with a lot of crops and plants.” Guru ji said this and travelled on. Guru ji came close to Ramyana Village.
Over in Majha, the people of Majha heard of Guru ji’s state. They heard of how the battles of Anandpur and Chamkaur happened. They heard of how the army was killed; how everyone left Anandpur; how the Sahibzadas were killed; that Guru ji was in the Jungle Desh (Malva); Lakhs of Turks have set off towards Guru ji. They all heard this and were upset. They felt ashamed and damned themselves. They said: “our Majha Desh has become Bemukh. We followed Dhunni Chand and came here. We left Satguru ji and ran away. Sri Guru ji’s task was ruined.” The good Singhs were upset at themselves: “our Desh is Bemukh. We will go to Hell for this.” Others talked too. The Singhs honour awoke, understanding their fault. Nobody from any other Desh did such a thing. Majha lost their courage and trust. They were worried. The people from the villages got together and discussed: “how can we help Guru ji?” The Panchayats of many villages got together and had meetings. They all sent their representatives to bigger meetings. They all came to one place and had a huge meeting. The people of Lahore and surrounding areas got together. Only a few people from each village came. They were all worried: “the result of being a Bemukh is going to Hell.” They all discussed for a solution: “100 or 200 men should get together and go to Satguru ji. Let’s meet Satguru ji and try to convince him by folding our hands and bowing our heads: the traditions of past Gurus, if you take on those traditions and make your heart calm, then we can follow your Sikhi. Please be compassionate over us and give us Mukti. The conflict you have with the Turks, you are fighting them on a daily basis. Your Sikhi won’t be followed then. The public will live like the subjects of the Emperor. We can’t fight the Shah. He has Lakhs of armies to fight. If you say that: “with the Turks, I have conflicts,” then we can all come to Delhi and tell the Emperor everything. We will solve this conflict in a good way. We won’t leave any type of conflict. We can solve all of the problems. This enmity will go away. You can live in peace in every way. You can have the Sikhs follow you with love. We are your Sikhs. You are our Guru. Keep good relations with the Turks. Otherwise, we are not your Sikhs and you won’t be our Guru. The matter will worsen from both sides.” The Panchayats of all the villages came to this decision. The Sikhs with love all got ready and wanted to go and meet Guru ji. From every village, they took one person. They got ready to go together. They all got ready with their weapons. They headed towards Satguru ji. They all came to the village Hari Ke Pattan. The Sutlej and the Beas meets at this place. They all crossed the river. They got news of Guru ji’s whereabouts: “he has left Deena. He is heading towards Khidrana.” The Singhs heard this and were happy.
Over in the Jungle Desh, Guru ji left Ramyana. Guru ji and the Singhs travelled ahead. There was a Jatt named Jugraj Virang standing where Guru ji and the Singhs were passing. The Sikhs said to him: “listen Chaudhary, an army of the Muslims is coming. If they ask you if Guru ji passed from here, don’t tell them anything.” The Jatt heard this and said: “if the Muslims ask me, I won’t tell them anything. I will tell them: “what do I Know?” The Sikhs spoke to Jugraj and came to Guru ji. They then went far into the jungle. One of the Singhs came ahead to meet Guru ji as he had news. He said: “the army is coming. There was a Jatt named Jugraj that was standing back there; he told the Turks everything. He said to them: “the Satguru went in this direction. His warrior Singhs told me not to say anything.” He told them in which direction we were going. The Muslim army is coming this way now. If that Jatt didn’t say anything, they would have been led off our trail. He told them everything.” Sri Prabhoo ji heard this and said: “the words didn’t stay in his stomach? He and the people of his family will die with bloated stomachs. This will be the cause of their deaths when they die.” By the Guru’s words, Jugraj died by a bloated stomach right away. I (Kavi Santokh Singh ji) have seen his descendants. When anyone in their family is about to die, their stomach bloats for 3 days and then they die. They have to be burnt with bloated stomachs. The lowlife took a curse for himself and for his descendants to come.
Satguru ji travelled onwards to where there were a lot of Kareer and Peeloo trees. They came upon another village where Roopa Khatri lived. He came to meet Guru ji with a roll of Gurr. He bowed to Guru ji’s feet and sat down. Guru ji saw him and said: “Roopa, where should we set up a Dhera? We will stay here and fight the Turks. When they come, we will kill the enemy.” Roopa heard this and said: “your Dhera here won’t be a good result for us. You are in conflict with the Turks. The army will come and catch us all. They will take my family and children and punish us. They will destroy our village and loot everything. If you stay here then this place will be ruined.” Guru ji heard this and said: “you won’t survive then. Your children won’t survive either. Your village will be destroyed and settled again many times.” Guru ji gave him a severe curse. Since then, the village has been re-established many times. The village has been ruined over and over again, destroying the joy. The Khatri and his children died. His roots were destroyed and so were his branches. The village was ruined 30 years ago. I (Kavi Santokh Singh ji) have now heard that the village has begun to rebuild again. When the Satguru gave a boon or curse, it happened right away. It is not delayed even for a second. Guru ji went on ahead in the jungle where there was no village.
1-8 The Bidhava of the Majha Singhs
Guru ji was riding at the front with Khana and the Singhs. The Brars were riding slowly along as well. There was a Sikh Brar named Bhai Dhaan Singh ji who was riding with Guru ji in the jungle. His son was riding behind Guru ji. He noticed that Guru ji was riding slowly. He said to Guru ji: “ride the horse faster otherwise we will see the Turks come close to us.” Prabhoo ji continued riding slowly. The young Brar spoke in fear again: “the enemy army is close by! Countless armies will come to us. I said this to you many times but you aren’t riding your horse faster.” Guru ji didn’t speed up. The son of Bhai Dhaan Singh ji had a whip in his hand. He came close and hit Guru ji’s horse to make it go faster. He hit the horse and said: “the Turks are approaching! Why aren’t you going faster? Make the horse go faster. The enemy is close by. Why aren’t you seeing this?” When the boy hit Guru ji’s horse, Guru ji got angry and said: “may your offspring be killed! You hit my Jaan Bhai! He was riding as I wanted him to go.” Bhai Dhaan Singh ji heard Guru ji’s anger-filled words. He noticed his son was cursed. He folded his hands and said: “my son is guilty but please forgive him. He is young and did a foolish thing. He doesn’t know your greatness and radiance. He has never done the Sangat of Gursikhs by which he would have known your greatness.” When Bhai Dhaan Singh ji said this, Guru ji became compassionate. He said: “Dhaan Singh, don’t worry. If a father swears at his son, it doesn’t mean anything. There is always love in the heart for each other. If the father gives a curse to his son out of anger, he doesn’t really want his son to die. You Sikhs are like my sons. I want all of you to have a lot of joy.” Bhai Dhaan Singh ji heard this, folded his hands and said: “your words are irreversible though. There is a big doubt and fear in my heart. How can I be calm? I am your servant.” The Treasure of Compassion then spoke of an example to make him understand and to rid his doubt: “if the jungle catches fire, where the cubs of the lion and lioness are; they pick their offspring by their mouths to save them. The watcher would think that the lions are going to eat the cubs. The lions do not make their teeth pierce the cubs. They pick up the cubs with joy and take them to safety. Knowing this, let go of your doubt. Don’t think of this in your mind.” Bhai Dhaan Singh ji heard this and was happy. He got off his horse and bowed to Guru ji’s feet. He said: “Guru ji, that is well. Guru ji, that is well. Give us peace. You are the power itself.” Guru ji spoke with the Sikhs as they all travelled ahead.
Guru ji wanted to test the people of Malva. He spoke at that time: “I am really thirsty. Go and find water, whoever has it.” Everyone heard Guru ji and began to look for water. They all asked each other if they had water. Khana, the servant of Kapoora had a mashk full of water. The Sikhs asked him: “do you have water?” Khana lied and said: “I don’t have water.” He then thought: “if they give me money, I can sell them the water.” When nobody found water, the Singhs said it again: “we need water for Guru ji.” Khana then spoke up: “I have water. I will take money for the water. Give me a Rajitpun and take a cup of water. It is really cold like it has been cooled with shora (Potassium Nitrate or a clay pot).” Guru ji’s servant gave Khana a Rajitpun and took a cup of water. The servant told Guru ji how he bought the water. He gave the cup to Guru ji. Guru ji looked at the cup of water and then spilled it. After a while, Guru ji spoke: “I didn’t drink the water because it wasn’t clean. Bring me another cup of water. If it is pure, I will drink it.” The Sikh went back to Khana and said: “Guru ji needs another cup of water.” Khana said: “I won’t give another cup of water. I am keeping it for myself.” The Sikhs said: “you have a lot of water. Why aren’t’ you giving a cup of water? The Prabhoo is thirsty.” Khana said: “give me a Dinar and take a filled cup.” The Sikhs said: “take a Rajitpun and give us water for Guru ji.” The fool said: “I won’t give the water. Give me a golden coin. Only then will I give the water.” Satguru ji said: “give him a Dinar and take the water.” A Dinar was given and the cup of water was filled. Satguru ji saw the cup of water and said: “water is the thinnest of all things but Khana you know nothing. I see you as thinner than water. I figured you out today.” Guru ji said this and travelled further.
The Sikhs of Madhur Desh (Majha) arrived, looking for Guru ji. They folded their hands and said the Gurfateh. They bowed their heads to Guru ji’s lotus feet. The Sikhs of both sides were happy to see each other. It was a good time that they came and met Guru ji. The Sikhs stood and made their request: “listen to our request, Guru ji. The people of Majha villages all met together. They were all worried about you. They were in sorrow and worry for you. All of these Sikhs were sent from all of the villages of Majha. Please come off your horse so we can speak to you. What they wish to say to you, please listen to them.” Satguru ji heard them and stopped. Guru ji got off his horse and sat down. Some Singhs stayed on their horses to keep watch. Some got off their horses and came with Prabhoo ji. The Majha Singhs stood with Guru ji. A Divaan was in session. Everyone was in Kumerkassa. They had rifles ready. The Turks were close by. The battle was about to break out by early morning. The preparations for battle were all done. One Singh was told to climb a tree to keep a lookout: “climb the tree and look far. Tell us if you see something.” The Singhs of Majha spoke: “there are many villages in Madhar Desh. The elders all met. The Panchs and lovers of the Guru; whose fathers and grandfathers were Sikhs; they all heard your story and were upset. They were in mourning. They damned themselves as their Desh was Bemukh from you. Where your Sikhi had flourished since the beginning, we were unfortunate and didn’t follow through with it. We got together and had discussions. We gathered and sent the Sikhs towards you for this reason. Please leave your conflict with the Emperor. We will be the mediators and call for peace. We will complete this task. We will praise you to the Emperor and have him worship you. Only then will our Sikhi be a success. We will stay in your blessing then. If you wish to keep a conflict with the Turks, there will only be pain then. We won’t be able to follow your Sikhi then. The people will lose faith from their hearts. Our Desh told us to say this. We will destroy all of your problems.” Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji heard this and became really angry. He responded to them in the whole Divaan: “Sikhs are those who take wisdom from the Guru. You are giving me a faulty opinion. I don’t wish for Sikhs like you. You all ran away before without seeing anything. Since you have ran away, remain as runaways! Who is calling you now? You want to solve all my fights? I was fighting for all of you! Where were you before? Why didn’t you go and speak to the Shah during Sri Guru Arjan Dev ji’s time? You didn’t go and say anything when he was martyred. You stayed in your own homes with fear. Your Panchayats lost their power then. Then during the 9th Paatshaah’s time, when he went to Delhi to give his head; Majha and other lands were all quiet with fear. Nobody went to the Shah to say anything. Nobody mediated the conflict then. Why didn’t you go to Delhi and finish the conflict then? I would have seen you then if you had solved it then and free the Guru. I would have seen you if you would have completed the task. If you would have done something then, I would have listened to you today. None of you did anything then. No task was solved then. None of you wanted to show anyone that you were Sikhs. You now come to me to give me wisdom? You had no shame saying all this! What will I get making you my Sikhs? When the task is at hand, you show deception and run away. Write it right now that: we are not Sikhs! Go back to your Desh!” The Majha Sikhs heard Guru ji’s harsh words and lowered their heads. The Panchs that came, they discussed and spoke to everyone. After a while, Guru ji spoke: “I wish to destroy the Turks but these Sikhs are here to mediate a truce. They are afraid of war, that’s why they came here to speak to me. Why do you not write a Bidhava for Sikhi? Write it Majhails! Why are you delaying?” When Guru ji said it a second time, the Majha Sikhs all got ready to write a Bidhava. The whole Desh had decided that if Guru ji wanted to continue to fight the Turks, they weren’t going to follow Sikhi. They were given the authority by the elders of Majha Desh to write a Bidhava without any fear. They all discussed and wrote a Bidhava. Guru ji watched them write it and put the Bidhava in his pocket. They wrote: “the whole of Majha is out of Sikhi.” The unwise people wrote the Bidhava because of fear.
1-9 The Majha Sikhs Come Back to Fight the Turks
The ones that became Bemukhs and had no faith, they thought of what the Panchayats had decided. They wrote the Bidhava without delay: “we are not your Sikhs.” The Sikhs that had faith and love for the Guru, they felt a deep pain in their minds: “a very bad thing has happened. We lost this Lok and the Parlok. We lost everything.” Sri Satguru ji was upset and depressed at the situation. It was as though a father’s son spoiled right in front of the father. Both sides were really upset. Whoever saw this were upset. The ones that were faithful among the Majha Sikhs, they were really worried with what their leaders had done. They couldn’t leave the people of their Desh either but they had become Bemukhs. They damned themselves for this.
The Singh that was on top of the tree, keeping the lookout, he spoke: “Prabhoo ji, what are you looking at, standing? The enemy army is coming! Dust is flying, covering the sun. I can hear the Nagaras playing. Thousands of mounted soldiers are coming. I can hear loud noises. We should prepare the rifles. Use the ramrods and prepare the double bullets. They aren’t very far. They are near. They will be less than a half hour. There will be a fight now.” He got off the tree as he spoke. Satguru ji mounted his horse. He took his bow and pulled his string to make a noise. He took out sharp arrows from his quiver. The Brars all folded their hands and said: “Prabhoo ji, Let’s go further. The Taal of Khidrana is ahead. That is a good place to fight from. We can go further where the Turks can’t get water. They will die without having us fight them. They will run away with dry mouths. The Turks won’t be able to stay. They will run away when they don’t find water.” Guru ji heard this and travelled on ahead. The Sikhs said: “the enemy is nearby. They will see our horse tracks and chase us. They will come behind us.” Guru ji spoke, thinking about the enemy: “Khar Turkan ki aankhan ghatta. Khoj Kahai Nih mukh vich Datta. Hoe matvaaray tar tar takay. Nikat hoe bhi vekh na sakai. The foolish Turks will have dust in their eyes. They won’t be able to speak as to what they find. There will be rocks in their mouths. They will become foolish and stare around. They won’t be able to see as, even when they are close to us.” After saying this, they all headed towards Khidrana Di Taab. The Turks were approaching.
The Sangat of Majha Desh had written the Bidhava and turned to go back home. There were 5 Sikhs that were wise out of them. They decided to leave the group and go back to Guru ji. They damned the rest, saying: “you all made our Desh drown. You made us lose this Lok and the Parlok. We will give our lives for the Guru. We will fight the enemy and kill them or die ourselves. There are thousands of Turks coming for Guru ji. Which real man would leave the Guru in this situation? Such a painful time is upon the Guru. We are damned for leaving the Guru now. What will we do with this damned life now if we can’t be useful to the Prabhoo? Everyone will die one day. Coward and warrior will both die. The life and death of a person is great if the Seva of the Guru is done at this time. Staying alive, we will be slandered by all. When we die, we will burn in Hell. This is a bad deed you have taken on.” Hearing the 5 wise Sikhs speak, the honour of others awoke. They left the group and joined the 5. They said: “it is not right to leave the Guru now. We will have to live in Hell for thousands of years, being scared of the battle; turning our backs on the Guru. It is only a half hour’s effort on the battlefield. We will be in joy for Lakhs of years. We will stand here like pillars in the battlefield. We will fight the enemy. We will kill or be killed. We won’t let the Turks reach Guru ji, till we have our Pranas. We won’t let a stone be thrown at Sikhi. We won’t leave our Dharma. This is our oath. You can all do as you wish.” They criticized the others: “life will be slandered and we will go to Hell.” 40 Singhs separated and gathered their courage to fight the battle (It was as though the 40 Shaheeds for Chamkaur inspired the spirit of these 40 Majhail Singhs). The others became cowards and lost their strength. They quickly went back to their homes. They loved their Pranas and left their Dharma. They left their Satguru and did a bad thing. They went back home really fast. They were like deer going back home.
When Sri Prabhoo ji reached Khidrana, he saw a good place and said: “the place is low and dry. We will fight from here. There are dense Beri trees all around. We can fight and kill the Turks from here.” Bhai Dhaan Singh ji and the other Brars said: “there is jungle in every direction. You shouldn’t be within the army. The enemy may surround us. You should go on ahead. You should stand on a high place. Keep your back to the jungle and face the enemy. We will fire the bullets from there. As many as we can kill, we will. They will turn back if we fight hard. Listen to us Guru ji. Let’s not stay here. This is our request.” They requested Guru ji with humility, over and over again. They said this with folded hands: “listen oh Great One!” Satguru ji and the Singhs left Khidrana and went on ahead a little. Guru ji stood at a high place to fight and scoped the area. As Guru ji and the Singhs left, the 40 Majail Singhs came to fight with courage. They were heading towards Guru ji. They had their rifles ready. The 40 Singhs saw the pool of Khidrana and decided that it was a good place to fight. They loved the area as though one would love a good fort to fight from. They said: “let’s stay here and fight. We will surprise the Turks from here. We won’t let them go after Guru ji.” They all decided and stayed in the Taab of Khidrana. They were ready to fight. The Singhs wanted to make themselves look like they were many in numbers. They took their Chadras and put them on the bushes. They put them on high trees. They covered the area with shawls and clothes. They made it look like there were tents set up so the enemy would get scared and not attack. The Singhs were going to attack them with their rifles from far away. They would kill them and bust their limbs. They stood with a lot of courage. Their lives were blessed. They didn’t want the Turks to reach Guru ji. They wanted to kill them there. They wanted to fight a fierce battle. The Singhs took their posts and said: “don’t move your feet. Fight from here. If you die here fighting face on, you will go to Heaven. Our protector is the complete and Omnipotent Guru. Fight a fierce battle.” Some recited the Chadi Charitar and some recited the Vaar of Baghauti. Some recited the Ramayan which had the Chands of praising the warriors. They got ready like this. They were aware and did the Simran of the Satguru.
The Turks made a lot of noise. They Singhs heard this and aimed their weapons. Some fired bullets. The enemy heard this and came to fight. Wajeed Pathaan heard the noise and said: “we are close to the Guru! I can hear the bullets firing. They are close. We will fight. He already killed Lakhs of our men. He is a brave warrior and won’t accept defeat. Prepare your rifles and do a massive charge all at once!” The whole army was given these orders. They all prepared their rifles. Jaat Kapoora was with them. He told the Turks the story of Guru ji. He told them where Guru ji had stayed. He showed them the signs. They all looked for the signs and came to find Guru ji. They rode their horses fast, making a lot of noise. As they came close, they saw the Taab of Khidrana. They saw the hanging clothes and thought they were tents. Bullets flew from both sides.
