1-36 Daadhoo Dvara Vivek
In this way Guru Maharaj travelled on everyday. The Gareeb Nivaaj arrived in the Marwar Desh. He then arrived in Narayana where Daadhoo Dvara is located. [Daadhoo Deen Dyaal ji was very close to Guru Arjan Dev ji] Prabhoo ji set up a Dhera there, seeing a very nice place. The place was very beautiful. He got off his horse and sat down. The Singhs came and sat around him. Slowly, the Vaheer arrived as well. As they came, there gathered a great crowd. Many Sangats, Sadhoo groups and the Khalsa army were there. There were many horses there, neighing loudly. The Singhs planted spikes into the ground to tie the horses up. Some went to see the Daadhoo Dvara. Some went to collect firewood and grass.
Jait Sahib Mahant lived there. He was very calm and peaceful. He had a lot of powers. Hundreds of Sadhoos of the Daadhoo following lived there. They practiced many types of Bhagtis to achieve the good afterlife. They would bathe and control their thoughts. They searched for the one form inside all. Compassion, forgiveness, patience, contentment, without ego, without desires, without sorrow; Daadhoo ji wrote nice Bani for this purpose. His Bani was beautiful. Many Sadhoos recited the Bani with focus. A person from the Guru’s Dal came there. He was asked by the Mahant: “who has arrived here? Where is he from? For what task is he travelling?” The Sikh said: “Satguru Gobind Singh ji has come. Anandpur is his capital. The Turks had a great battle with him. He killed Lakhs of the Turk warriors on the battlefield. He fought them many times. Firstly, the battle was in Anandpur with the Turks. Then, he killed many in Chamkaur. 1,000,000 came to attack. He then came to Mukatsar to fight. A battle happened there. Guru ji has now come here. The two Sahibzadas died in battle. The two child Sahibzadas were killed by the Turks. Four of his Sahibzadas were killed upon the Turks’ heads. Their kingdom and radiance has now been destroyed because of their death.” Mahant Jait Sahib heard all this and was amazed in his heart. He thought to himself: “the Turks ruled the whole earth. The Turk Emperor had Lakhs of soldiers. This person is no ordinary person. I should go and do his Darshan.”
The Mahant gathered his Sadhoo and headed to do Guru ji’s Darshan. He came to where Guru ji was holding Divaan. The Mahant thought of Guru ji’s praises. He came close and bowed to Guru ji. Sri Guru ji saw the Mahant and had him sit close to him with respect. The Mahant sat and looked at Guru ji. He was filled with bliss. He spoke to Guru ji about the Sahibzadas: “Sri Daadhoo ji has spoken about this. One should be without claim. This only gives you peace: Daadhoo, make all claims go far away from you. Spend your days without claim. Many have done the business in this shop of the world. To make claims, there is a lot of pain. Many conflicts arise from it. They can’t be counted. To not have claims, all of the peace is there. Forgiveness has all the gains.” Satguru ji heard this and said: “this is the way of the saints. It is good for saints. The ones who have to protect the Dharam, listen to their ways: Daadhoo, make a claim and loot everyone. Only the Khalsa will remain. They others will die in pain. The Turks have ruined the Hindu Dharam. I have ruined the Turk’s determination in their hearts. They must be punished with weapons. Only then can the Dharam survive, by killing the sinners.” Mahant Jait said: “my Guru said that you should forgive everyone and keep your virtues. He told us what to do.” He spoke another Doha of Daadhoo ji: “Daadhoo, analyse the time and think of tomorrow. If someone hits you with a brick, take it on your head.” Guru ji heard this and said: “this is your way. Your Panth is the way of Nirvirti; that’s what they do. The ones who are to stop the sins and crimes, their way is different. Daadhoo, analyse the time and think of tomorrow. If someone hits you with a brick, hit them back with a rock in anger.” When the Singhs and Sadhoos sitting in the court heard: “we will not tolerate the tyranny of the tyrant,” they all laughed in joy and said: “wow! Your words were wonderful!” The ideologies of the two sides were presented in a great way. Guru ji said: “this is the time of Kali. The sinners are radiant. They give pain to the saints, poor, cows and Brahmins. The fools do crimes against them. It is right to punish them. The earth will not tolerate forgiveness. Show them the radiance of your Tegh, rifle and sharp arrows. This is the only way in Kaliyuga. We will kill them and erase the worries. Purity and wisdom are great virtues. The people of Kaliyuga have denounced these from their hearts. Wield weapons and do the Simran of Satnam. Keep the Dharma and you will reach Heaven. For this reason, I have illuminated this Panth. They have Bir Rass by keeping the weapons.” Discussions took place in this way. Hearing both sides, everyone was happy. The Mahant Jait Ram folded his hands and said: “please eat Langar from our place. Sri Daadhoo ji has commanded us to feed anyone who comes to this place. This is our love. Please accept it with your Dal.” Sri Prabhoo ji heard this and smiled. Guru ji spoke to test him: “I have many hawks with me. They haven’t eaten yet. Feed them first and then give us food.” The Sadhoo heard this and became confused. He thought to himself: “this is difficult. We follow the Ahinsa Dharam of non-violence. The hawks eat meat. We can’t satiate them. Satguru ji knows this well but he still is asking for meat form us. Looks like he is testing me.” He understood this and said: “your hawks eat meat. We will request them to eat Juvaar. They will listen to the Sadhoos. We will satiate everyone with grains today. You can then eat afterwards.” Guru ji heard the Sadhoos and said: “we will accept your request.” The Mahant was happy. He made all of the preparations.
The Singhs all gathered and started thinking of the Bibek Rehit. They came to Sri Satguru ji and said: “when we came to the Daadhoo Dvara, you did the Namo with your bow. This was against the Rehit of the Khalsa. It is right that you be given a Tankhaa. You are always without mistakes in your heart. You forgive the mistakes of the whole world. You must now ask the Khalsa for forgiveness.” Guru ji heard the Bibek and was really happy. He said: “Guru Khalsa Dhan. I did the Namo with my bow to test you. I wanted to see if the Singhs were aware. Give me the Tankhaa. I will give it right away. This is the Rehit to be earned in the future.” One of the Singhs who had his weapons tied to his body said: “give 5,000 right now.” Another heard and said: “you asked for too much. 500 is enough.” A third heard and spoke: “500 is too much still. It should be less than this.” A fourth spoke: “Guru ji is not concerned with money.” A fifth Singh said: “5 Lakhs should be the Tankhaa. You can get it right now from Guru ji.” The Khalsa heard this and thought about it. They discussed this and then said: “whatever you say, Guru ji will give it now. What if a Singh makes a mistake? Who will be able to give that much? You are not thinking about this. Set an amount that is reasonable.” They all understood and said: “give 125 Rajitpuns, Maharaj.” Satguru ji accepted the Tankhaa and gave it. He gave the money to the Khalsa. The Singhs took the money and used it for the Seva of the Langar. They had a tent made for Langar with the money. Guru ji was happy to see this and thought to himself: “the Khalsa is now aware.” Guru ji said: “here is 500 more Rajitpuns.” Prabhoo ji gave the Tankhaa to the Sikhs and taught: “I gave this. If someone does not give the Tankhaa, their wealth will be destroyed.”
1-37 The Daadhoo Dvara Mahant Brings Food/ Bhai Daya Singh ji Comes Back
Jait Sadhoo came with all his Sadhoos in this time. He brought food for Langar: rice, flour, ghee, sugar and other foods. He placed everything in front of Guru ji. Where all of the hawks were placed, Mahant Jait Ram ji came and stood in front of them. He folded his hands and said: “you are the wise hawks of the Satguru. You did good Karmas in your last birth as you are touched by Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji in this life. This place is the place of Sadhoos who follow the Dharma of Ahinsa. We want to serve the Prabhoo so it is up to you now. Please eat grains today and don’t look for meat. This is the treasure of Sri Daadhoo ji, where thousands eat from.” The millet and Juvaar he had, he spread it all in front of the hawks of Guru ji. The hawks accepted the Sadhoo’s request. They began to eat the grains. Some of the Singhs saw this and were amazed. They went to Guru ji and said: “Prabhoo ji, the hawks are eating the Juvaari after Jait Saadh made a request to them.” Guru ji heard this and smiled. He said: “take the food as much as you need.” Mahant Jait Ram brought all of the food. The Langris took the food and began to prepare the Langar. Firstly, a huge plate was prepared with all of the food that was made. It was brought for Guru ji. Satguru ji ate as much as he wanted to. His plate was then picked up. The Langar was then distributed to all of the Singhs. Everyone ate and satiated their hunger. Everyone then slept the night in peace.
Seeing everyone as tired, Satguru ji set up the Dhera for some time. The people of the nearby villages all came to do Guru ji’s Darshan. They came and bowed their heads. The Sadhoos would come and have discussions with Guru ji. They were happy to gain the knowledge and praised Guru ji. That day and night was spent there. In the morning, Guru ji prepared to leave. He wore his clothes and weapons. He mounted his horse and headed off with the whole Dal army.
After many Kos, they travelled the whole day to reach Laali Nagar. It was quite far to travel in one day. They ate and slept the night. In the morning, they set off again. They travelled, crossing many Desh. They visited many villages along the way. The Vaheer was tired and came to the village Maghroda. Prabhoo ji had the Dhera set up. The rest of the Vaheer arrived. They ate and rested. Everyone got together and made a request: “in these last two days, we travelled really far. The Vaheer is tired. Everyone is tired. Please travel as much as the big and small can handle. Please travel as much as everyone can come with you, oh Master.” Guru ji heard this and said: “I didn’t see a good place to set up camp on the way. For this reason, we travelled a lot in the last two days. In the morning, we will set up camp closer.” The night was spent there. In the morning, preparations to leave were made. The warriors were ready and travelled behind Guru ji, who was really virtuous. After 12 Kos, they reached Kulayat village, which was beautiful. The Dhera was set up. Everyone was happy with the small travels. Langar was made and everyone ate. Guru ji noticed that everyone was tired. They set up camp in a nice place. For 12 days the Dhera stayed there. Guru ji’s praises spread a lot here. Many came with various gifts. They bowed and received blessings. People saw Guru ji’s handsome form and were mesmerized. They brought expensive clothes and weapons. They did his Darshan with joy. The people became well-rested and Guru ji then wanted to go on ahead. He mounted his horse and set off with the army and the Vaheer. Guru ji held his fierce bow in his hand.
Where the Desh of Rajas was, Guru ji crossed Rajasthan with his army, fearless. The people of the villages saw the radiance and glory of Satguru ji. The Nagaras and conches were being played. The people came with many types of gifts to meet Guru ji. They folded their hands and bowed with love. They brought grass and wood. They brought food from their homes. Some people were too proud and didn’t come to see Guru ji. The Singhs would loot such people and punish them. They wouldn’t sell their things to the Singhs, so the Singhs would take the food from them by force. They would show their strength and make them humble. The news spread in the Rajputana of Guru ji’s presence. Guru ji travelled a set distance by the day. They set up camp near wells and sarovars. They came near rivers. Guru ji would set up camp in nice gardens as well. He loved greenery. That’s where Guru ji would stay, among flowers and plants. Guru ji crossed this Desh and enjoyed himself in many ways on the way. He hunted on the way. He hunted deer, birds and other animals. He slowly crossed the area with joy. The Singhs looted the sinners. Some people came with love and some came with fear.
Bhai Daya Singh ji had left the Emperor in the south. He and Bhai Dharam Singh ji came close to Guru ji. They found out where Satguru ji was and came to join him. They met Guru ji and were in joy. They placed their heads on Guru ji’s lotus feet. They had a lot of love for Satguru ji in their hearts. They didn’t want to get up. Satguru ji lifted them up and relieved their depression. Bhai Daya Singh ji closed his eyes and shed tears. The peace he received could not be described at that time. What happened on the way, Bhai Daya Singh ji told Guru ji. He told him how he met the Baadshah. Guru ji asked Bhai Daya Singh ji. Bhai Daya Singh ji said: “we went like Ahidees. We travelled from one village to the next, taking men from the village Panchayats to carry us across. On the way, we met your Sangat. They met us and worshipped us like it was you. They asked about you. We eventually came to the Shah’s Dhera. We tried to meet him but were unsuccessful. We sent you a letter then and then you sent your command. We then went inside and met the Shah. We gave him many responses.” How the dog spoke, Bhai Daya Singh ji told Guru ji. Guru ji slowly listened to everything that happened during their travels: “he then gave us leave. He sent two guards with Gurjs (maces) with us. We heard that you were in the Desh of the Rajputs. We headed this way then. We came and had your Darshan. The guards that were with us, they separated from us and went to Delhi. The Soobas and the Umraavs have been written to by the Shah. He sent Parwanas to them saying: “wherever Sri Guru ji goes with his army, setting his Dheras up; everyone is to go to him with their hands folded. They are to do his Seva. Nobody is to face them and fight battles. Don’t stop him in any way.” The guards went to Delhi with these letters. These Parwanas will be sent to other Desh and kingdoms. He gave us your Kapeera.” Bhai Daya Singh ji gave the Kapeera back to Guru ji and said: “take back what is yours. He sent this for you.” The Sikhs standing around saw this and asked about the Kapeera. Sri Guru ji told everyone: “Nauranga goes to Mecca everyday. I went to Mecca to interrogate him heavily. I scolded and scared him. He was scared. I gave him my weapon over there. Bhai Daya Singh ji brought it back.” Bhai Daya Singh ji folded his hands and said: “when we spent a few more days in Aurangabad after meeting the Badshah, we heard a little news from others: the Zafarnama that you wrote for him, when we gave it to the Shah and he read it. After we left the Shah’s meeting, right away, the Shah was in pain. We didn’t go back inside to see what happened. This bad news spread everywhere but people spoke about this in secrecy. They spoke of his sudden illness. Nobody spoke out loud. What is to happen ahead, is what you wish. I told you what we heard.” Satguru ji heard this and said: “you did good. Nauranga will die without delay. In a few days, the news will spread. High and low, all will soon know of it.” After saying this, Bhai Daya Singh ji stayed with Guru ji with great eagerness. The complete Guru continued on with the travels by the day. In some places, the warrior Singhs would get into fights with the troublemakers. They would loot and beat them in a fight. Some would come to meet the Prabhoo and bow to his feet.
1-38 Travelling/ Dhera in Baghor
In this way, Sri Satguru ji travelled on. The Chaudharys of the villages that came to meet Guru ji, they lived in peace and joy. If they were filled with pride of their own power then the Dal would end up attacking them. The rifles would fire. Whoever would stand in front of Guru ji, they would fall. The Singhs would loot and beat them to eat. The Master would travel during the day. Guru ji and the Dal would see new lands everyday. Wherever they went, the noise would follow. The people would get afraid, hearing of Guru ji’s arrival. They found out that this was the Guru that destroyed the Emperor’s army. Guru ji passed many cities and villages. Many Desh he crossed. The Vaheer then faced a fierce and difficult terrain. The Dal had cannons with them. The carts couldn’t travel either because there were huge boulders on the path through the mountains. When Guru ji saw this way, he made everyone change their direction. He made the Vaheer take the easier way. The people who knew the area, they told Guru ji: “there are mountains on this path. We won’t be able to cross this way. It is hard. The other path is easier.” Guru ji took their advice and went the easier way. They travelled slowly and set up camps along the way, resting. Guru ji crossed that Desh. On the other way, the mountain was avoided. When they crossed the area, Guru ji saw a beautiful Desh. Beautiful fruit trees were standing there. They gave great shade. There were gardens of bananas, oranges and other fruits. There were ponds of water. Guru ji was happy to see this. The wells and the ponds were filled with clean water. Wherever he looked, there was greenery. Guru ji travelled through this area with joy. Seeing a nice place, the camp was set. The people gathered food, goats, grass and firewood. The Singhs went to the villages to get milk, yoghurt, ghee, sugar and other foods. They paid for the items of Langar. In this way, Satguru ji was in joy. They travelled along slowly with joy.
A person from the Dakhan came to Guru ji. He met Prabhoo ji and gave him news: “Nauranga died in a lot of pain. There is noise of this in the whole country.” The Singhs asked: “by which illness did he die from?” The person from the Dakhan told them how the Lord of Delhi died: “the Zafarnama that Guru ji sent, the Shah opened it and read it. He became ill as soon as he read it. He tried to cure himself with Hikmat but failed. He would eat food but nothing would digest. Nothing went below his navel. Whatever he would eat, it would stay in his stomach for some time and then he would throw it up. His vomit was like feces that gave him pain. He was in pain for many days. The sins he had done, he was seeing the results of them. His feces came out from his mouth. He saw huge forms of the Jumms. Sometimes Nauranga would faint seeing the scary Jumms. His eyes would spin and he would go unconscious. He was in a lot of pain when he died [Aurangzeb did not read the Fateh on the Zafarnama. His daughter noticed that the Zafarnama did this to him and that he wasn’t reading the Fateh. She suggested that he say it but he didn’t want to say it. She told him to write it. When Nauranga wrote down: Ik Oankaar Hukam Sat, Sri Vahiguru ji ki Fateh; after writing this, Aurangzeb died] For many days, the news was not released that he had died. Now, people found out and said: “kuppa rirdyo” – the pitcher has spilled; meaning the old king has died. The country is now in mourning and fear.” Guru ji heard this and said: “which fortunate person is the master of his throne now?” The person said: “the son of Aurangzeb, Tara Azam, has taken the army and rebelled. He was already the crowned prince, the Vali Ahed. He now sits on the Emperor’s throne. Many Umraavs and wise viziers, they folded their hands and accepted him.” Satguru ji heard this and smiled. He said: “he won’t be able to rule the joys of this Sultanate. Whom Sri Akaal ji wishes, that person will become the Emperor. Nobody else can do anything.” After saying this, Guru ji travelled on.
Guru ji then heard that Baghor was near, where Bheem killed Kreechak. Satguru ji wanted to see this city. The Vaheer travelled on and came close to Baghor. The place was beautiful. It had a lot of trees. Satguru ji set up camp there. The people of Baghor heard: “an army has come! We hope they don’t loot us.” The people were scared. They picked up their weapons and got ready to fight. They prepared to fight. The people sent a messenger into the Dal. Where Satguru ji was holding his Divaan, the messenger came. In the Divaan, Satguru ji sat in the middle. The Chaurs waved over his head, looking radiant. The messenger folded his hands and bowed with humility. He then said his request on behalf of the people of Baghor: “I was sent by the people of Baghor who are scared. You have a huge army with you. They’re afraid that your men will come into the city and loot and beat the people. Where did you come from? Where do you wish to go? For which task have you come here for? Please tell us everything.” When Guru ji heard the fear-filled words, Bhai Dharam Singh ji was instructed by Guru ji: “go to the city and gave the people hope. Erase their fears.” Bhai Dharam Singh ji obeyed and went right away.
Bhai Dharam Singh ji saw the people of the city standing in attention. He stood and explained everything: “he is the Guru of the World. He is the giver of joy for you. He gives joy and peace to all. Become his Sikhs and meet him. Your both eyes will be in joy. Where Bheem Sain killed Kreechak, Guru ji wishes to see that place. There’s no need for you to be afraid. Nobody here wants to destroy your city or loot it.” Bhai Dharam Singh ji gave them hope in this way. The people still were not convinced. They said: “tell him not to set up camp near our city. The people will be well if you are far from here.” Bhai Dharam Singh ji tried to give them hope but it was of no use. He came back to Guru ji.
Bhai Dharam Singh ji came in front of Prabhoo ji and said: “the people of the city are scared. They don’t have patience. There is another beautiful garden among the forest at some distance. Please command us and we can set up the Dhera there. We will be in joy there. Everyone will be happy.” The Master heard this and said: “do the Dhera over there where the other garden is.” Everyone got up and went to the other garden. The trees gave good shade. The Singhs set up their Dheras. The people of the city came to do Guru ji’s Darshan. They gave many types of gifts and bowed, seeing Guru ji’s beautiful face. Sri Prabhoo ji spoke with compassion: “don’t make the effort of running around. Don’t go to get grass or firewood. We will get everything, right here. This garden is nice and peaceful. Take what you need from the garden.” Many people of the city gathered and came together. They trusted Guru ji. They then took Prabhoo ji to their city and showed him the place where Kreechak was killed. Guru ji asked the people and the people took him. Guru ji commanded the Singhs: “walk on foot.” The Singhs walked on foot. They walked a few miles and climbed some elevations. Guru ji saw all of the nice places. The people told Guru ji of the places. The people of the other villages came to do the Darshan of Prabhoo ji. The ones who spoke in fear, Guru ji said to the Singhs: “each one of you go to the different villages so they stop worrying.” The Singhs obeyed and went to the villages. They gave them courage and hope. Guru Bhagwan ji toured the area and came back to his Dhera. He saw the nice places of the area.
1-39 Battle in Baghor
One day, the camels of the Dal of Sri Guru ji went into the gardens of the city to graze. The vines were dense. The camels went towards the vines. The camels began to eat the leaves from the plants and the trees. The gardener came during this time and began to hit the camels with a stick. He swore at them and kicked the camels out of the garden. The riders of the camels came and began fighting with the gardener. They swore at the gardener. They began to fight with their sticks and staffs. The gardener’s employees came and fought as well. The gardener and his men were beaten up and so they ran away. The camel riders brought the camels back to Guru ji.
The gardeners went to the city and spoke to the owners of the land. They all came to a decision: “if a Singh comes this way. We will punch them and hit them with sticks. We will take our revenge. They did a bad thing.” The camel riders were just employees. They weren’t Singhs. The people began to scope out Singhs. One Singh was walking through the area and was surrounded by the gardener and his men. They raised their hands to hit the Singh. The Singh got angry and took out his sword. He jumped and hit about two of the men. A lot of noise spread, here and there. “Somebody threw blood on a Singh,” the Singhs heard this and got permission form Guru ji. They prepared their rifles and went to fight. Men from both sides got ready and a fight broke out. Metal clashed. Rifles were fired. A fight happened outside of the city of Baghor. The warriors fired their rifles. When they came close, they all took out their swords. They cut the men with their swords. When the Khalsa attacked, the men of the city ran away. The Singhs were ready in every way. The people of the city went into their homes and the fort to fight form. The Singhs surrounded the city. They set up the fort and shot their rifles in anger. The dead bodies of the Baghor people stayed on the field. The people just ran away. Nobody came to pick up the dead. They fought form inside their buildings in the city. The battle was fierce. It was hard to describe it all. Rifles from both sides fired. When both sides fought with pride, Satguru ji scoped the whole city and came to the main gate of the city. He said to the Singhs: “the gate is not solid. Charge the gate and break it down. Whoever comes in front of you to fight, cut them.” The Khalsa took their rifles. They shot and yelled out while charging the gate. They took out their swords. They ran towards the door and broke it down. The people behind the gate ran away towards the fort in the city. The strong Singhs came into the city. They began to loot the city. The people of the city ran away in fear. The people came into the fort and closed the gate. The ones that were outside were killed. The Singhs surrounded the city and the fort. They looted the whole city. They looted ghee, sugar, food and money. They looted money or anything else that was useful. The Singhs were satiated with the loot. The Singhs surrounded the fort. They didn’t let anyone out or go in. Rifles were shot. The battle was fierce. On the streets were many dead bodies. The people of the city all ran away.
Bhai Dharam Singh ji was called upon by Guru ji. Guru ji said: “gather and charge. Go close to the fort and set up the post. Kill all of the enemy.” Bhai Dharam Singh ji obeyed and scoped the fort. He thought of the strategy and then wanted to execute his plan. Bhai Rattan Singh ji ran to Guru ji and spoke of his plan: “Singhs will die if we charge the fort. We should find an easier way to attack: let’s take the cannon up the mountain and fire cannonballs from there. When the fort is hit with a few cannonballs, the people inside will get scared and come out.” Satguru ji heard this and deemed it a good plan. He said: “take the canon up the mountain.” The Khalsa got together and took the canon up the mountain. The canon was loaded with a cannonball and gunpowder. They aimed at the fort gate. The gunpowder was lit with fire. A huge blast happened like thundering lightening hitting a mountain. When the enemy heard the noise, they lost their courage in their hearts. The cannonball hit the main gate. Another shot was fired from the canon. They shot it 4 times. The men near the gate were all killed. Seeing their dead, the people got scared. They thought they were all going to be killed. They lost their courage to fight or attack. They went to the top floor of the fort and waved a white flag. They said: “save us Guru ji! Grant us life. We will leave if we are alive.” The Khalsa heard the humble request and let everyone inside the fort go. The people were released. The Singhs took over the city and then took the fort. They looted all of the wealth in the fort. One Singh came to Guru ji and gave him the news of victory. Satguru ji looked at the fort and noticed it had a well and a cliff. There was food, sugar, clothes and ghee inside. Everyone inside the fort left everything as they became cowards.
Satguru ji called for his horse. He rode it towards the fort. Bhai Dharam Singh ji, the great warrior, was with him. They both rode towards the won fort. As they travelled towards the city, the king of Baghor just arrived. He heard of the fight and came towards his city. He was gone out for the past few days. He saw Guru ji’s Dhera and became angry. He attacked Guru ji’s Dhera. Some of the Singhs fought the king. [The name of the Raja was Shiv Pratap] The Singhs fought the king’s men. Some Singhs died. Guru ji heard of the noise and quickly came back. He became alert along with Bhai Dharam Singh ji. They saw the battle with the king of Baghor and the Singhs. The Raja had another king with him. On this side, Guru ji was with Bhai Dharam Singh ji. The Raja had foot soldiers. Arrows and bullets flew. Guru ji said: “listen Dharam Singh, go and fight like a lion. There are two over there and we are two here. It will be one on one. Bhai Dharam Singh ji took his horse and wanted to kill the enemy. He yelled out loud and challenged one of the Rajas: “come here and strike your weapon! I will strike then. We can defend.” The Raja came and took an arrow out. He mounted the arrow on his bow and released it. The arrow came towards Bhai Dharam Singh ji. Bhai Dharam Singh ji moved his horse. He saved himself from the arrow. He took out an arrow and mounted it on his bow. He pulled it and released it. The arrow hit the Raja in the heart and exited the other end. The Raja fell after being hit with the Khappra. He died in an instant. The Raja of Baghor got angry and fired an arrow towards Guru ji. Guru ji moved his horse around. The Raja inspired his men. His arrows all missed. Guru ji took out an arrow from his quiver. He pulled it to his ear on his bow and released it. The arrow hit the Raja in the forehead and exited the other end. Both Rajas died. The soldiers then ran away, leaving their courage. Satguru ji saw this and said to his Singhs: “they are running away from the field. Don’t kill them!” Guru ji made all of the Singhs stop. The Singhs then took care of the Dhera and began to tidy it up. The Raja of Baghor was killed on the way back. The city and the fort were looted. The guards of the fort were all killed. In this way, the Singhs achieved victory in the city. Everyone praised Guru ji; both high and low praised him. The Dhera was packed up and Guru ji left with all the Singhs.
Guru ji spoke to the Khalsa: “now the battle for kingship will happen. Let’s see who wins and loses now. Turk warriors from both sides will die. The Takhat will go to who Kartar wishes. The tyrant emperor of Delhi has died.” The Singhs heard this and said: “the elder son took the Takhat. Who can take it away from him? You are omnipotent, oh Master of the Universe, but he has unlimited armies with him.” Guru ji said: “everything is in Prabhoo’s hand. You will see what happens. We will see if he can be shaken or not.” Guru ji traveled many Kos. He saw a nice place and set up camp. Guru ji is a strong warrior. He is a lion for the deer-like enemy. His Singhs are the lions for the enemy deer as well. Santokh Singh bows to the Guru.
1-40 Meeting Bahadhur Shah
In Balak Bukhara, was Bahadhur Shah. He heard of his father’s (Aurangzeb’s) illness and came back. He set up camps along the way and made his way back to his Desh: “father has died and my brother has taken the Takhat.” When Bahadhur Shah heard this, he was upset. He thought to himself: “what can I do now? How can I save my life? My brother will arrest me and kill me. No strong person will be able to save me then. He has an army of 2.2 million. There is no way I can face him in battle.” Bahadhur Shah called his well-wishers and had a meeting with them. He told them all of his problem: “what can I do now? I need to save my life. Shall I run away or stay? Which powerful person can help me? Find a Peer, Fakir or big Auleeya who will do what we say and complete our task. We need to find such a person, today.” Bhai Nand Lal ji was among his well-wishers as he had taught Bahadhur Shah. Bhai Nand Lal ji spoke: “there is only Guru Sahib that I see. There is nobody like him in the whole world. You can search the whole world. You already know this quite well. Everyone knows of his immense powers. If he is compassionate and helps you, you can receive the Sultanate of the whole world.” Bahadhur Shah heard this and was really happy. He said: “he is definitely worship-worthy. Munshi Nand Lal ji, who else knows him better than you? Nobody else can go to convince him. You have his blessings. He loves you a lot. Hakam Rai will go with you. Go to where Satguru ji is, without delay. Complete the task and come back.” Bhai Nand Lal ji heard this and made preparations to go. Bhai Nand Lal ji heard news: “he is in the Desh of Rajputana. Satguru ji is travelling in that direction.”
Bhai Nand Lal ji took Hakam Rai with him and set off. He went in that direction where Guru ji was, after destroying Baghor. Bhai Nand Lal ji travelled quickly. Sri Prabhoo ji was sitting in Divaan. Many gifts were being presented. Bhai Nand Lal ji brought the gifts from Bahadhur Shah and bowed his head. He made his requests to Guru ji: “Shah Bahadhur is your servant. He comes to your sanctuary with his hands folded. Please be compassionate and protect him. Save him from his enemy brother.” Guru ji heard this and casually spoke: “I will give him the Sultanate of the world but I want him to agree to one of my tasks. If he is not deceptive like his father then his task will be completed.” Bhai Nand Lal ji was happy to hear this. He said: “Dhan Guru,” and bowed his head. He then said: “I will tell him what you want. He will surely agree to your task. He doesn’t even have hope for life. I will quickly go to him and tell him what you said.” He took leave from Prabhoo ji and went back.
Bhai Nand Lal ji came back to Bahadhur Shah and told him everything: “this is what he said. Accept his agreement. Write it with your own hand. One task that Guru ji wants you to do, if you do it, he will give you the kingdom of the world.” Bahadhur Shah had a Murshid. He spoke in the meeting: “how much army does the Guru have? How will he give us the kingdom? Tell us.” Bhai Nand Lal ji said: “the word of the Guru is the greatest army. He is omnipotent. He can do as he wishes. He can fill the empty and empty the filled. Don’t have any doubts about him in your mind. Whatever Prabhoo ji says, do that. He will do what you say. If you obey him, all of your problems will be destroyed in an instant. His greatness is not hidden. Everyone knows about it. He is on the Throne of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji. Everyone worships him.” Bahadhur Shah said: “go back and tell us the answers. I will complete his task but ask him how I will get the kingdom. Find out everything and tell me. What is the task that he wants me to do? Bhai Nand Lal ji heard this and got ready to leave again.
Bhai Nand Lal ji came back to Sri Guru ji again. He met him and bowed to his Lotus feet. He sat down in front of Guru ji and said everything: “how shall he become the king? Whatever you say, he will do. He doesn’t have strength to fight though.” Guru ji, the Compassionate One, said: “keep courage and be alert. He shouldn’t run away. By running away, he won’t get the kingdom. If he goes and meets Tara Azam, that is not good for him either. He should understand what his father did. He also met his brothers but had them killed. Therefore, don’t meet the brother. His father killed his father and brothers and took the throne by force. Don’t do these two things. The third way is to fight. That is the only way to get the kingdom. The kingdom of his family, I have destroyed it, seeing it as corrupt. Because he came to my shelter and requested me, so I will give him some time to rule. There are many reasons for him to rule. His age is less that’s why he will rule for some days but after him, the rule will end. The throne will remain unstable. There won’t be much hope for them. Tell him to prepare to fight. I will get him the Sultanate. Tara Azam, I will kill myself. Bahadhur Shah will get the Takhat to sit on. Tell him to gather all the army he can. Without fighting, the kingdom cannot be achieved. Make this determination. You will get everything. Go quickly and make preparations.” Bhai Nand Lal ji heard this and bowed to Guru ji’s Lotus feet. He went back to the son of the Emperor.
Bhai Nand Lal ji arrived and bowed to Bahadhur Shah. He told him what Guru ji said: “you will definitely get the kingdom. Sri Guru ji’s hand is on your head. Obey him with faith.” Bahadhur Shah heard this and said: “where do I gather an army from? I need time to gather it. I don’t have time. Without soldiers, how do I fight?” Bhai Nand Lal ji spoke: “do as Guru ji says. He will kill Tara Azam himself. He said this to me. Your army will be behind him. The army of Delhi will all be yours. The weight of your victory is on Prabhoo ji now. He will stand in the middle of your tasks. Have faith and take the kingdom. Don’t run away or meet your brother. There are only problems in this. No joy. You will have pain and worry in your life. Leave these two things. There is only one option: war. If you die, you will go to the Bahist. If you stay alive, you will be the Emperor. Sri Guru ji will give you the victory.” He said this and gave Bahadhur Shah hope. Bahadhur Shah began to gather an army. He departed by the hope of Guru ji. He said: “I will either die or take the kingdom now. The Prabhoo will fulfill my task.”
Bahadhur Shah came to the River Chambal. He then said to Bhai Nand Lal ji: “take Hakam Rai with you and go to Prabhoo ji. Bring him for my help. I will do his task. I am fighting the battle on the dependency of his support. Bhai Nand Lal ji came to Guru ji. He bowed and said: “please come and give Bahadhur Shah your Darshan. Bless your servant. He will obey your command. He has moved forward to fight a war.” Prabhoo ji said to Bhai Dharam Singh ji: “take the biggest 5 Singhs and give Bahadhur Shah victory. I will protect you.” When the fight starts, I will come and kill Tara Azam. Fight with courage. Do the Smran of the virtues of the Guru and take victory. Tell Bahadhur Shah: the Guru is present everywhere. When you think of me, I will be present. Don’t doubt this. He will be the king. His brother will die.” Bhai Dharam Singh ji heard the command and left on his horse along with 5 other Singhs. Guru ji told everything to Bhai Nand Lal ji. He obeyed and bowed his head. Guru ji said: “I will leave from here. I will come. Fight the battle without fear.” Bhai Nand Lal ji came back to Bahadhur Shah. The Singhs came and said to the Shah: “Prabhoo ji will come. When you attack, Prabhoo ji will come once you do his Simran. He is complete and omnipresent. Have faith and let go of your doubts. Effort is always rewarded. Your wish will be fulfilled.” Bhai Nand Lal ji told him: “go with a strong mind. He will give you his Darshan on the battlefield. He will kill the enemy and your task will be fulfilled.” The son of the Shah had hope. He advanced ahead to fight. He went to the field near Agra in the Battle of Jajau, on the shores of the Yamuna in June 1707 CE.
