9-41 The Favourite Begun/ Padmani

In this way, Nauranga was really happy.  He sent expensive gifts to Baba Ram Rai ji.  He sent these gifts everyday and respected Baba Ram Rai ji.  The Badshah received gifts from many lands everyday.  He would send the best gifts to the son of the Satguru.  He sent him pears and other foreign fruits along with almonds, pistachios and other dry fruits.  He sent pomegranates, chwaras and other fruits.  He sent fruits from the royal orchards.  He sent baskets full of fruits, flowers and the rarest clothes.  Even the kings of the world didn’t have access to these clothes.  They were colourful.  Whatever the Badshah wore, he sent the same type of clothes for Baba ji.  He sent a lot of money for the horses and the food for his Dhera.  Baba Ram Rai ji’s glory grew in Delhi.  Everyone came to bow to Baba ji.  They were all amazed with his powers.  No Peer or Fakir could match his powers.  The Badshah took care of Baba Ram Rai ji.  He would sometimes call him to his court and have discussions.  Sometimes he would sit with Baba ji in solitude.

One day, Baba ji came in his palanquin and Nauranga had Baba ji sit next to him with respect.  They were alone.  Aurangzeb wanted to see if Baba ji could read minds.  He said: “I want to ask you a secret and personal thing.  I want you to tell me what is on my mind.  Which Begum, from my harem, do I love the most?  With whom do I interact the most with, that is the most beautiful?  Tell me her name.  Tell me how old she is and what she looks like.  Tell me: who do I spend the whole night with and think of all day long in joy?  Which Begum do I love the most?  Tell me my personal household things.  The miracles you’ve done before, I’ve seen.  They were the greatest!  I want to see if you can read minds or not.  Oh master, when you tell me this, I will know that the Guru is omniscient.”  The son of Sri Satguru ji heard this and spoke right away and told Aurangzeb what the name of the Badshah’s favourite Begum was.  He told him what she looked like and how tall she was.  When he married her and when he had been with her, he told him.  He even told him their personal conversations and life events.  He told him of their night events and their discussions.  Aurangzeb was amazed to hear this.  He said: “you are right!  It was like you were there!”  He thought to himself: “I have had a wish for a long time to be with the Padmani woman from Sangladeep, who is of the highest types of women.  I have had this wish in my mind.  I want Baba ji to fulfill my wish.  I will see his powers and get to see the Padmani woman.”  He thought of this and spoke to Baba Ram Rai ji: “if your power can go to far off places, within the Island of Sangladeep, there exist the Padmani women.  They are the most beautiful women with prettiest eyes and who smell naturally like lotus flowers.  Bees are always around these kinds of women.  I have had this desire for a long time.  Fulfill my wish.  I wish to see such a woman.  If your powers go further than the ocean, call the Padmani for me once.”  Baba Ram Rai ji heard this and laughed.  He said: “I will do this for you but the woman will only stay with you for one night.”  After saying this, Baba Ram Rai ji used his powers to make a Padmani woman to appear.  The woman came form above like a fairy.  She was decorated with flowers.  The smell of flowers spread in the court.  Her eyes were big, like the lotus petals.  Her sight was sharp and mesmerizing.  She had a slight smile.  Her teeth were beautiful that tested Kamadeva.  Her waist was small and her chest was high.  Her face was beautiful that would attract the strongest of Jogis.  The Jogis would leave their Jog, seeing her.  The smell of lotus flowers spread form her body.  Her hair was long and black.  She had all the marks of beauty and could not be described.  The Badshah saw her and was amazed at her beauty.  He was very happy to see such a woman.  He thought to himself: “there is no one more powerful than him.  Nobody else can be worshipped.  I have heard of the power of the Hindu Gurus.  I have seen their power now.”  He was happy and respected Baba ji.  He no longer doubted him.

Baba Ram Rai ji came to his Dhera.  He didn’t delay while showing miracles.  His glory spread as time went on.  People met and praised him: “he does the impossible.  He can do the impossible in a second.  The omniscient wise Sri Satguru Har Rai ji gave him the unlimited treasure.  The son spends as he wishes.  He was like a king who gave generously.  He did the most impossible tasks quickly.”  The jealous Mullahs and Ulamas were in pain with Baba ji’s radiance.  The Qazis were upset.  They got together and said: “this boy has come and supressed everyone.  He defeated the Turks.  The Badshah follows him now.  He sends him so many gifts and money.  He sends the best gifts.  He calls him everyday.  Let’s speak to Baba Ram Rai ji and ask him difficult questions.  We will defeat him in front of the Badshah.  We will make him quiet in the court.  We will see if he can do that.  We have defeated the world with our debates.  If he debates with us, he will lose.  We are the wisest.  There are no others like us.  If a Hindu defeats us, shame on us.”  The fools were upset and wanted to defeat Baba Ram Rai ji in debate.  They made many plans together.  They were without Gyaan.  What could they have done?  They heard the Bani of Guru Nanak Dev ji and criticized it: “this is against our religion.  He has said that there are Lakhs of Pataals (underworlds) and Lakhs of Akaash (skies).  The Badshah will raise this question as well.  He won’t tolerate anything against our views.  When Baba Ram Rai ji comes and sits with joy, we will raise this point with him.  We should be focused and speak together as a group.  Whatever he believes in, criticize it.  Whatever he criticizes, believe in that.”  The fools made this plan.  They were jealous of other ideologies.  They would gather in the day and the night.

One night, the Badshah called a court in session.  The Qazis and the Mullahs came.  They bowed to the Badshah with joy.  The Badshah called a servant to call Baba Ram Rai ji: “call the son of the Guru here.”  The servant went to Baba Ram Rai ji and bowed.  He folded his hands and said: ‘the Shah is thinking of you.  He has a big Divaan with many Umraavs in session.”  Sri Baba Ram Rai ji heard this and got ready.  He got on top of his palanquin and got ready to leave.  Beautiful Chaurs were waived over his head.  The people on the way saw him and bowed their heads.  The Chobdhaars and the warriors were with him.  He was about to win the Turks.  Baba Ram Rai ji’s palanquin entered the palace and went to where the court was in session.  A beautiful stool was set with beautiful sheets on top.  Baba Ram Rai ji sat on his seat and looked radiant like the moon amongst the stars.  The jealous saw this and became anxious.  The Badshah had Baba Ram Rai ji sit with respect.

9-42 Two Moons/ The Counting of the Toshakhana

When Sri Baba Ram Rai ji, the son of Sri Guru Har Rai ji, sat down in the court, the egotistical scholars signaled each other.  The all started talking about the Prophet, Auliyas, Gons, and Fakirs of Islam.  They saw themselves as really smart.  Baba ji listened with patience.  The scholars spoke with cleverness.  They spoke sweetly, so Baba ji wouldn’t suspect that he was being setup for a debate.  They tried to make the Shah happy as well, with words about Islam.  They praised their own Deen and wanted to show it as the supreme.  The clever ones spoke about many things.  They praised the Prophet Mohammed and the other Prophets.  They praised the words of the Quran.  They resounded the words of the Bible and the Quran.  They then said the name of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji and spoke of his Sakhis.  They started speaking of Guru Nanak Dev ji’s Bani, in which the Prabhoo is mentioned as Infinite.  They said: “Lakhs of Patals and Lakhs of Skies.  Hearing this, I am in doubt.  I thought about this and couldn’t clear my doubt.  In our religion, only 7 underworlds and 7 skies are mentioned.  They can’t be seen though.  There is a space above ours where another sun and moon illuminate.  Why can’t we see the other sun and moon?  How far are they?  If you can see that they are really far, why can’t we see them?  There should be as many suns and moons as there are skies.  This is not a lie.  If you have powers, show us the other skies.  The moon is closer, so show us that first which is from the other sky.  Today is the night of full moon.  We can see one moon, show us the moon from the other sky.  The whole court wants to see this amazing thing.  Then we will accept the Bani as true.”  Baba Ram Rai ji heard this and said: “what doubt is there in this?  Sri Satguru has said the truth.  Whatever one knows, that is what they would say.  Your Prophets only saw 7 skies.  Guru Nanak Dev ji has seen infinite.  When the Satguru went to Baghdad, the Peer (Dastagheer) debated with him on this subject.  He didn’t believe this line.  He wanted to see the other skies.  Sri Satguru ji showed him the other skies.  He held his hand and made him close his eyes.  The Peer lost, seeing so many spaces.  The doubt of his mind was destroyed.  The doubt that all of you have, it is false.  I will dispel your doubt.  I will show you the other moon and destroy your doubt.”

Baba ji showed everyone the second moon in the sky.  The whole world saw this and were amazed.  They couldn’t understand where it came from.  They said: “this has never happened before.”  They had never heard of another moon.  Many books had been written but none mention a second moon.  People climbed their balconies to see the other moon.  They spoke to each other about this with amazement.  The whole court was amazed.  The Badshah was happy and amazed at this miracle.  They were all deeply shocked.  They all said: “nobody can control this child of the Guru.”  The Mullahs and Ulamas who had hatred, they burned with jealousy, seeing his radiance.  They all saw the second moon and lowered their necks in shame.  They didn’t raise their necks to speak again.  The were speechless.  What could they say?  They couldn’t overpower Baba Ram Rai ji.  They had jealousy and hatred in their minds.  Baba Ram Rai ji had the power of the Guru.  The Qazis still did not bow to Baba Ram Rai ji’s feet.  They were unfortunate.  The second moon was shown.  The night had so much light as there were 2 moons in the sky.  The words of Baba Ram Rai ji had the power of Sri Satguru Har Rai ji.  Nobody could face those words.  Everyone said: “Dhan!  There is no one stronger than you.”  Everyone got up from the court and went to their homes.

Everyone thought about the second moon and talked about it.  Baba Ram Rai ji came back to his Dhera.  His glory overshadowed everyone else.  The Shah was amazed.  He was shocked to see the second moon.  Aurangzeb laid down and thought to himself: “there is no house like the Guru’s house.  Nobody has these types of powers.  Nobody could go into the other sky.  He made another moon.”  Aurangzeb slept the night.

Everyone awoke the next morning and praised the Guru.  Many days passed.  The Shah would call for Baba Ram Rai ji and he would go and see him.  They had discussions everyday.  Baba ji would make the Shah happy with his answers.  He was a joyous person like his father, Guru Har Rai ji, who laughed a lot.

One day, Nauranga said: “in my Toshakhana, there are gold coins, money, pearls, diamonds, sapphires, emeralds and other gems.  How many do I have?  Tell me what I collected and what my ancestors collected.  Count them all.  Count the money and wealth I have.”  Sri Baba Ram Rai ji said: “this Toshakhana should be a secret.  You should come with me alone.”  The Delhi master took Baba Ram Rai ji to his Toshakhana which was buried into the ground.  Baba Ram Rai ji showed him where the treasure was.  He told him how much wealth was there; how many Rajitpuns were there; Dinars, diamonds, gems and other expensive items.  Whatever money he had stored and hidden, Baba ji told him everything.  Nauranga heard this and was amazed.  As it was stored, Baba ji told him where it was without seeing it.  There was nothing hidden from him.  Nauranga thought: “it is like he can see them with his eyes.  Who can fight him?  He has unlimited powers.  He is above the powers.  Whatever problem there is, he can solve it.  He resurrected a dead animal.  He showed me two moons.  Now, he showed me my wealth that is buried.  He spoke about it like he could see it.  I tested him many times but he passes without delay.”  The Shah thought to himself like this.  They both came back to the court.  He told everyone in the court of what happened: “he knows the hidden things.  He knows where my wealth is.  He told me about my Toshakhana.  He told me how much money and gems I had hidden in the secret places.  He went there and spoke about them.”  The Shah praised Baba Ram Rai ji.  Everyone was shocked to hear this.  Everyone got up and went to their homes.  They all praised Baba ji.  It grew by the day.

Many Sikhs came and learnt Sikhi from Baba Ram Rai ji.  They saw the greatness of Sikhi.  They brought many gifts and washed Baba ji’s feet to take Charanamrit.  They became Sikhs like this.  Many became Sikhs daily.  Thousands of gifts came everyday.  A great crowd gathered from every direction.  The Dhera grew.  The Langar was huge.  It was for everyone, including the poor.  Kavi Santokh Singh ji says: “the praise of the Guru grew in every home like the Malti flower.”

9-43 Hunting the Lion/ The Previous Birth of the Hawk

One day, the corrupt Nauranga went hunting.  He sent a messenger to Baba Ram Rai ji by telling him: “tell him to come to me, quickly.”  The messenger went to the Dhera of Baba Ram Rai ji.  He stood with his hands folded and said: “the Shah wishes for you to go hunting with him.  He is standing with his soldiers and has called for you.  Please come quick without delay.  He wants to go with you.”  Baba Ram Rai ji mounted his horse and rode off, quickly.  Where the Shah was, the son of the Satguru headed in that direction.

Baba Ram Rai ji came to Aurangzeb and saw him standing.  Aurangzeb got up when he saw Baba Ram Rai ji coming.  He gave a big elephant to Baba Ram Rai ji to sit on.  Everyone mounted their horses and got ready to leave.  The Badshah spoke about hunting: “how many deer will we kill today?  Which species of deer will we kill?  How many will escape?  How many will be brought back?  Tell me everything.”  Sri Baba Ram Rai ji heard this and said: “whatever you wish for, nothing will come in your hand.  A huge lion will come out.  All of you will apply a great effort but will fail.  You will come back empty-handed and upset.”  The Shah heard this and said to all: “if a lion comes out today, be alert.  Kill it in any way you can.  I will reward the person that kills the lion.  Do what it takes so the lion doesn’t get away.  Surround it from every direction.  Use arrows and riffles.  Use swords and spears.  The big elephants, bring them closer together so the lion doesn’t get away.  Be determined and stop the lion.  Don’t be afraid.  Use any weapon you can.  Don’t let it get away.”  He alerted his people.  Everyone made plans to hunt a lion.  Many mounted their horses with their weapons in hand.  Everyone was in attention: “a lion will come out of the jungle.  Don’t doubt this.  Do what it takes to stop the lion.  Kill the lion quickly.”  The warriors on foot were separated from the mounted.  Everyone was eager.  They all went ahead.  They looked for a hunt in the jungle.  They made a lot of noise.  The horses and elephants were in a line.  They looked for a hunt but couldn’t find anything.  They wandered and became anxious.

Six hours passed.  They were without a hunt.  Right then, a lion came out from a bush.  He yawned, extending his jaw.  He then roared, really loud.  When he roared, the elephants and horses urinated out of fear.  The horses ran and the elephants moved back.  The soldiers tried to surround the lion.  The army was told to move on ahead.  The soldiers inspired their horses and elephants to move forward.  Many bullets were fired.  Some took out their swords and stood in front.  The elephants were hit with the ankush to move forward.  They yelled: “kill it!”  The horses moved forward.  The jungle was dense.  The lion couldn’t be seen properly.  There was a lot of noise.  The horses were scared.  The soldiers got scared.  The soldier on the elephant saw the lion.  He aimed at the lion with his rifle and fired.  The bullet hit the lion but it didn’t do much damage.  The lion jumped up when it was hit.  It jumped in the direction the bullet came from.  The lion took the soldier off from the elephant, who fired the rifle.  The lion ripped the soldier apart and threw his body far.  Many got scared seeing this.  The lion injured a few more soldiers.  He came out of the circle and left.

The lion ran many miles away.  The army of the Shah chased the lion.  The jungle was too dense.  The soldiers couldn’t get to him.  They lost the lion.  They went far into the jungle.  They eventually returned in the evening, empty-handed.  It became dark and the army returned to camp.  The words of Sri Baba Ram Rai ji were true.  The Shah and the soldiers were amazed.  They returned on the horses and elephants.  Aurangzeb said: “whatever the son of the Guru said, became reality.  The lion came out.  We made efforts to kill it but failed.  Our army got tired.  We couldn’t kill the lion.  His words can’t be reversed.  He is miraculous.”  The Badshah praised Baba Ram Rai ji as he came back to his palace.  He slept the night.

The next day, Aurangzeb thought about the powers and miracles of Baba Ram Rai ji.  He held a court and called the son of the Satguru.  The senior Soobas and Umraavs were seated in the court along with the Qazis and Ulamas.  Baba Ram Rai ji came into the full court.  Everyone looked towards the son of the Guru.  He was handsome and radiant.  The Sikhs were happy to see him.  The enemies were embarrassed.  Baba ji wore an expensive Jamma and Cheera.  The fabric was fine and transparent.  The stool of Baba Ram Rai ji was laid out with a shiny cloth on top.  Baba ji sat on the stool.  He was more radiant than everyone else.

The Shah held a Baaz on his hand.  The officers spoke to the Shah.  The Shah looked towards Baba ji and smiled.  He said: “this Baaz is very expensive.  It hunts very well.  When I release it after some birds, it can quickly kill them.  It jumps on the bird and doesn’t let it go.  The Mirshikars then pick up the bird and the Baaz.  He has given me a lot of meat to eat.  It is beautiful.  I love it.  Tell me, what was it in its last birth?  Why did it become a Baaz with many virtues?  It sits on my hand and loves me.  He stays on my hand with joy.  How did it come to me?  What karma did it do that it became my Baaz?  You know past and future.  Present is exposed to you too.  What was its previous birth?  Destroy my doubt.”  The son of the Satguru spoke, saying its previous birth: “he was the Divaan of your father.  He served your father, Shah Jahan.  One day, he cooked meat in his home.  He put spices in it to make it delicious.  He spent a lot of money to make the meat.  He filled a pot and left his home.  He thought to himself: “when the Badshah is drunk, I will give him the meat then.  He will be happy.  I will ask him what I desire.  I will get what I want.”  He prepared the meat and left his home.  When he was walking, it was night time.  He was bit by a snake on the way.  The venom took his life.  He couldn’t reach the Shah’s home.  His body fell on the path.  He wanted to feed meat to the Badshah when he died.  This remained in his heart.  He received a birth according to that.  He now kills animals and feeds you.  Till his body remains, he will keep feeding you meat.  He was the Vizier of your father.  He was known to many rich people.  The senior people, who are very old, will tell you about the Vizier dying by the snake bite.  They will tell you about the pot of meat in his hand.”  Nauranga then called for the old officers of his father.  He asked them: “how did the Vizier die?”  The old officers said: “he died by snake bite.”  Everyone had deep faith in Baba Ram Rai ji.  He told them what the Baaz’s last birth was.  The whole court, including the Shah, was amazed.  Kavi Santokh Singh ji says: “I have stated as it happened.”

9-44 The Fruit of the Kalapbrish/ The Hair Turn Black/ Walking on the Jumana

The court adjourned and everyone went to their homes.  Baba Ram Rai ji went to his Dhera.  He wouldn’t delay while showing his powers.  The Shah did Baba Ram Rai ji’s Seva.  He would see the miracles and be amazed.  The Ulamas said to the Shah: “there is a tree in the Bahist (Heaven) that is great.  It is called the Kalapbrish.  The fruit is great.  Call for that fruit and eat it.  Eating that fruit destroys the illnesses.”  The Mullahs said to each other: “he won’t be able to get that fruit.  The Shah will ask for it but he won’t be able to give it to him.  He will lose his faith in him.”  The Shah heard the advice and thought: “such an amazing fruit will come to me!  It belongs in heaven.  Can it really come?  I will ask Baba Ram Rai ji when he comes.  I will ask him.”  The court was in session and Baba Ram Rai ji was called.  Nauranga asked Baba Ram Rai ji when he came: “I have heard about the Kalapbrish, in heaven, which has delicious fruit.  The fruits have many qualities.  I have heard that the fruit makes new blood in your body.  It spreads throughout the body and the there is no filth left in the stomach.  I have heard of its praises.  Nobody has ever seen that fruit with their eyes.  As much as it weighs, that’s how much blood is made.  By your blessings, I would like to see that fruit from heaven.  How can I obtain that?  It has been written about in many books but never seen.  What can’t be seen, achieving that would be great.  Complete my wish.  You are omnipotent.  If you give me that fruit, that would be great.”  Baba Ram Rai ji raised his hand to call the fruit.  The fruit came into his hand right away.  It didn’t take him even a second to do this.  He gave that fruit to Nauranga.  Nauranga saw the fruit and was really happy.  He was amazed seeing the fruit.  Everyone was amazed.  They were speechless.  The corrupted ones that gave the advice were in pain.  The Shah was happy.  The other Sikhs with Baba ji were happy.

The Badshah ate the delicious fruit.  He couldn’t speak about his bliss that he experienced.  He had a lot of love for the son of the Satguru.  His love got deeper.  Baba ji was omniscient.  Wherever the Badshah would go, he kept Baba Ram Rai ji with him.  He respected him a lot.  He was happy to see him.  He sent him 13,000 Rajitpuns everyday with love.

There was always a crowd of people with Baba Ram Rai ji.  An army stayed with Baba ji all the time.  The Soobas and Umraavs couldn’t tolerate his radiance.  Baba Ram Rai ji would come into the court and sit on a high seat.  The Badshah would meet him with love.  The love grew.

One day, the Shah said to Baba ji: “you are young.  I am getting old now.  My hair has gone white.  It ruins my beauty and makes me upset.  Say the words and make my hair black for some time.”  Baba Ram Rai ji heard this and said: “for one year, your hair will remain black, as you wish.  Your hair will be like a young person’s.”  The hair went black right away.  The people in the court saw this.  Everyone was amazed at this.  Everyone praised the Badshah: “you look handsome!  It is like you are young again.”  The Badshah was really happy hearing this.  He saw an amazing miracle.  The hair remained black for one year.  They then became white again.  The old age came back again.

The Master of Delhi took the son of the Satguru and came outside.  They stood by the shores of the Jumana.  It had rained and so new water had come.  Wood, grass, the destroyed huts from the villages were flowing in the river.  The current was strong.  The Badshah said: “listen son of the Guru, there is a lot of water in the river.  Let’s board a boat and cross the river.  Let’s go to the other end.  It will be fun to ride the river.  The current is strong.”  The Badshah commanded his soldiers: “go get a boat, quickly.”  When the soldiers went to get a boat, Baba Ram Rai ji stopped them and said: “that will take a long time.  You will use your strength to bring the boat.  We won’t need a boat.  We will cross the daughter of Surya on foot.  We will go to the other end.”  Baba Ram Rai ji pulled the Badshah but he hesitated out of fear.  The Badshah didn’t step foot on the river current.  The son of the Guru said: “I am behind you.  Don’t be scared.  Your shoe won’t get wet.  Cross it without a doubt.  We will cross the river slowly.  Wherever you wish to go, we will go.  We will return as you wish.  The water won’t touch you.”  He gave the Shah hope and started walking on the water.  Nauranga walked a few steps and walked on the water.  The water didn’t touch his feet.  He was really happy to see this.  He was patient, seeing this.  The two of them walked on the water.  They walked on the Jumana as people walked on dry land.  The Soobas and Umraavs heard this and were amazed.  They ran to see this miracle.  The news spread in the city.  The people came running to see this.  The people of different castes and soldiers came.  They saw the amazing news they heard.  Where the shore of the Jumana was, the Badshah and Baba ji walked on top of the water.  The whole city was amazed to see this.  The current was strong.  There was a lot of noise among the people.  The news spread in every home.  The two of them walked on water.  Others saw them pick their feet to walk.  They walked slowly, with patience.  They weren’t scared.  Baba Ram Rai ji and the Shah spoke as they walked.

The news reached the palace.  The Begums stood on the balconies to see this amazing miracle.  The ones who saw this were amazed.  They all looked at the two.  Men, women, children, old and the young; they all spoke to each other: “they are walking on the water but the water is not touching them.  The current is strong.”  They praised the Satguru’s son: “there is no other like him.  He could do as he wishes.  He is the Peer of Peers with a lot of powers.  He shows new miracles everyday.  He does whatever the Shah says.”  They both crossed the Jumana and reached the other shore.  They roamed for about 2 hours.  They then came back home as it was evening.  They slowly crossed the river again and came back to the original shore.  The Badshah was amazed and happy.  Lakhs of people saw the miracle.  Poor and rich, they were all amazed.  The Pandits and fools couldn’t understand this.  Their wisdoms were deceived.  They met each other and said: “he is really powerful.”

The Shah came into his palace.  He spoke about the miracle.  Baba Ram Rai ji went to his Dhera.  Many people came to bow to him.  They all said “Dhan Dhan.”  The Sikhs were amazed and a sacrifice unto him.  Thousands stayed with Baba Ram Rai ji.  The Langar continued day and night.  The income was a lot.  The cost was a lot too.  Baba ji’s glory and radiance spread everywhere.  There was no counting the Sangat.  His radiance spread.  Kavi Santokh Singh ji says: “many came to him.”

9-45 Stopping the Hail/ Getting on top of the Drunken Elephant

One day, the son of Sri Guru Har Rai ji was sitting in the court of Aurangzeb when the clouds thundered loudly and the rains came down hard.  The wind blew fast.  The lightening flashed.  It hailed and made loud noises.  Heavy and big hail fell from the sky.  The earth was covered with hail like a white sheet.  The black clouds covered the sky.  The darkness covered the earth.  Nauranga saw this and said: “listen, son of the Guru, it’s hailing everywhere.  The huts of the poor will be destroyed.  The crops will be destroyed.  The fruits and flowers will be destroyed in the gardens.  The radiance of nature will finish.  The animals, cows and others will be in pain as the hail will hurt them.  You are a follower of the Hindu Dharma; you should protect everyone.  Otherwise many will die.  I have never seen such heavy hail before.  The animals and the crops will die.  They will all be destroyed.  Say the words to save them.”  Sri Baba Ram Rai ji heard this and said: “if this compassion has come into your heart, then this is what will happen.  The hail will stop right now.”  As soon as he said this, the sky cleared up.  The rain stopped.  The sun came out.  The darkness was gone.  The wind stopped.  Everyone saw this and accepted the miracle.  They said: “the hail and rain stopped.”  The glory of Baba Ram Rai ji spread.  The event was talked about in every home.  Everyone praised him.  New miracles happened everyday which made everyone surprised.

A strong and carefree elephant was kept in Aurangzeb’s palace.  It was tied up with chains.  If anyone would go to feed it, they had to take many people with spears and sticks to come close.  If someone went without a weapon near the elephant, the elephant would rip the person in two.  It was really strong.  It ate a lot.  It stayed standing in one place.  Nobody came near it.  Water was always kept at a distance from the elephant.  The servants would pour the water from a distance.  Everyone was too scared to go near it.  The corrupt ones told Nauranga to ask Baba Ram Rai ji to mount the elephant: “make the son of the Guru ride the elephant.  When he gets on top of the elephant to ride it, remove the Mohavat.”  The Shah heard this and liked the idea.  Alcohol was brought and given to the elephant.  The Mohavats stood all around the elephant.  The Howdah was a golden one.  It had a tarp of Zarri in it.  The elephant was drunk.  When the elephant walked, the tassels and sheets moved.  The Mohavats walked with the elephant and brought it to the court.

When Baba Ram Rai ji was sitting in the court, the Badshah said: “lets go to the garden to see the blooming flowers.  I want to show you them.”  He got up along with Baba Ram Rai ji.  The Badshah got on top of his mount.  The Badshah said to Baba ji: “I have prepared an elephant for you.  Mount it and come with me.  Leave your palanquin today.  Ride the elephant.  We have to go quick today.  The Day won’t last long.  We need to come back before evening.”  Baba Ram Rai ji heard this and sensed the deception.  He thought to himself: “this fool is still not satisfied.”  He said: “Vahiguru,” and mounted the elephant.  He rode the elephant with the Badshah with speed.  The Delhi Master was on his mount.  They both went fast.  The Mohavat came off the elephant after some distance.  The elephant moved its trunk around.  Its eyes were red and looked around.  It trumpeted out loud.  It was scary.  It was angry.  It wanted to kill.  The soldiers with the Badshah ran around.  They were scared.  The son of the Guru moved and sat on top of the Howdah.  He used his cane to guide the elephant.  He rode it towards the direction he wanted to.  He moved his cane to move the elephant.  The ones who were close to the elephant, went further away.  They were scared to see the elephant.  The elephant was scary-looking.  The Mohavats didn’t come close to the elephant.  As they ran with fear, the Shah laughed out loud.  Some stood and saw the drama.  Some were scared with their hearts beating fast.  They said: “it is like it’s going to kill someone right now.  Save yourselves.”  The elephant trumpeted and curled its trunk.  It moved its tail.  The elephant showed its tusks.  The son of the Guru used his cane to control the elephant.  The people watched this and were amazed.  They saw Baba Ram Rai ji and walked about 3 km to see this.  Baba ji rode the elephant without a Mohavat.  The elephant obeyed Baba Ram Rai ji.  People saw this and were scared.  They were scared that the elephant was going to kill someone.

When it was evening, they all came back.  Baba Ram Rai ji set the elephant to sit.  He got off the elephant, slowly.  He let go of the drunken elephant.  The Mohavats came running with their spears to tie the elephant up.  They surrounded the elephant with fear.  They took it back, slowly.  The stood afar and brought it back.  Till the elephant remained drunk, nobody went close to it.  After some time, the elephant was quickly chained up again.  It was tied up with chains.

Everyone praised the son of the Guru.  Everyone heard the praise and were happy.  The poor and rich all came to Baba Ram Rai ji’s Dhera.  They would bow and present money to him.  Some became Sikhs with love.  They saw his radiance, which spread far.  To do his Darshan, there was always a crowd.  They all said: “Dhan, Dhan,” when they saw him.  Many servants stayed with him.  Baba Ram Rai ji bought a lot of horses.  Many weapons were made for the army.  The wealth grew in his Dhera.  His income grew.  A lot of money and gifts came.  The Masands did the Ardaas of the Sangat.  The Mevras were always there.  The money came in big amounts from the Sangat of many lands.  Baba Ram Rai ji would sit with the Sangat.  High and low classes, they all did the Darshan of Baba Ram Rai ji with joy.  Poor and rich, all came.  They all ate Langar.  Nobody was judged in any way.  Everyone got Langar, as much as they wished for.  Kavi Santokh Singh ji has stated the Katha.  The Sangat couldn’t be counted.
