9-26 The Destruction of Mathura
In the morning, Nauranga set off for Mathura with his army. He faced Mathura which was about 150 km from Delhi. He came to disturb the Hindus. He was a great fool and giver of pain. He reached in a day or two. He set up camp in Mathura. He looked around and saw 5,000 Mandirs in Mathura. There were many types of idols in the Mandirs. There were Moorthis (idols) of Radha, Krishan, Rukmani, Balram and other Devatas. There were sounds of bells and conches everywhere. There were celebrations everywhere. There was food offered at the Mandirs. Aurangzeb became jealous and burned from the inside. He didn’t like to see the joy of the Hindus. There was gold on the walls and beauty all around. He called the heads of all the Mandirs. The Pandits and Bairagis all came. He spoke harsh words to all: “what blasphemy is this? You don’t recognize the Path to meet Khuddah. To worship idols is a big sin. You do this day and night with no wisdom. You think Allah is in the idols. You loot people. Stop the Pooja of Moorthis! You will be sinned in Hell for this. If you stop the Pooja, you won’t go. Read the Kalima and come into the Deen. Follow the Shariya with joy. This is the only way to get to Heaven. Everyone else will go to Hell.” He said many things to them in this way. They all responded to him: “we will lose your Dharma if we do as you say. Our elders have told us the path as they saw it. Our elders followed the path of Krishna. We are different from you. We should all follow our own paths. Why should we leave our Dharma? We will go to Hell if we leave our Dharma. You have killed cows and eaten them with joy. What can be a bigger sin than that for us? This is against our Dharma. We hesitate to come into your Dharma for this reason. You don’t use proper hygiene while eating. You eat from the same plate as others. Your people don’t see that as wrong. How can we accept this? The Heaven that you plan on going to, if we follow your way, we will go to Hell while being alive. We do the Pooja of the Avatars of the Prabhoo. There is no one greater than them. We meditate on those Moorthis to think of them. We follow this with joy. Your Dharma is the door to Hell for us. We see our Dharma as pure. We see yours as sinful. You rule the whole world. You had Timur Ling as the Emperor, but no one has ever come to stop us from doing our Pooja. You come in ego and challenge our Dharma. Everyone lived in their own Dharma. They did good deeds and followed the good path. Without good deeds, what is a Hindu or Muslim? They won’t be in joy. They will go to Hell with bad deeds.” They all debated for some time. They spoke harshly to Aurangzeb.
Nauranga got angry. The fool said: “you will figure this out when you will be beaten.” He commanded his soldiers to destroy the Mandirs. He said: “destroy the Mandirs and the Moorthis. Destroy the limbs of the Moorthis. Throw them on to the streets. If someone comes and stops you, arrest them and punish them. Forcefully convert them. There will be no conches blown or Poojas done from now on. Get the labourers to do this. Destroy the Mandirs while I am here. Wherever the big Mandirs are, build Mosques there instead. Wherever the places of the Hindus are, apply a hefty Jaziyah tax there. Their blasphemy is all over the place. They don’t wish to follow the Shariya. Punish them in many ways. They will only then read the Kalima. We will get rid of their religion. Whoever fights with you, torture them so they convert. Keep the Hindus weak. Make sure they don’t have enough to eat. Don’t hire them for work. When they are hungry, they will become Muslims.” The sinner was an egotistical fool. He hurt many people. The soldiers killed many and destroyed the Mandirs. The Hindus yelled out in agony, watching their Mandirs being destroyed. Nobody stood in front of Aurangzeb. There was no brave warrior amongst them. Gokul, Vrindavan and the other places; there was destruction everywhere. The Pandits hid in their homes and cried. They followed the Vaishnav Dharma and did not keep weapons. The pain was deep. They said: “Ram Ram,” helplessly. They didn’t know what to do. They said: “It was as if Haranakash committing sins again. He took away the Dharma and committed bad deeds. Just as Bayn Raja in Satyuga bothered the people who followed the Dharam, that’s how Aurangzeb is. In Treta, Ravan did the same. He stopped the Pooja of the Devatas. He thought he was the greatest. He gave pain to all. In Dwapur, Kans and others did foolish deeds. They made the Dharma disappear. They all died, lying on the ground, losing their powers. Nauranga is the tyrant in Kaliyuga. He is the big sinner who wants to destroy the Dharma. He kills the Hindus. He gives great pain to Sadhoos. He converted many. The Turks don’t object. Aurangzeb made the Deen grow. They were without wisdom.”
The beautiful Mandirs of Mathura were destroyed. The idols were beautiful that were destroyed. They had gold and gems on them. The labourers destroyed them. They were paid for this work. It was like Aurangzeb was pulling the roots of the radiance of the Turks. The golden domes were destroyed and grinded to rubble. The Moorthis were destroyed and thrown onto the streets. They cut the arms and legs of the Moorthis and threw them into the river. They threw the parts on the streets.
The Devatas were anxious seeing this. They saw the radiance of the Turks and knew that there was nothing they could do. The Mandirs in the land were made impure. The Moorthis were destroyed. Mosques were built in many places over the destroyed Mandirs. The loud Baangs were heard where conches were once blown. Rozas and Eeds were celebrated. The Hindus were bullied. The Mandirs and Moorthis were destroyed. Aurangzeb made sure the destruction happened. He stayed there the whole time and scared the Hindus. If someone converted to Islam, they would win a court case. That person was given more benefits amongst their extended families. Aurangzeb gave money to the people who converted. He brought them into the Shariya. To some, he married the daughters of nobles. He wanted to destroy the Hindu Dharma in any way he could. The Hindus were scared. They didn’t even fight amongst themselves. If someone did fight, they would convert to Islam and get the officers to help him. They got what they wished for. Fathers did not argue with their sons. The brothers did not angry with each other. There was no counting this. There was chaos. Aurangzeb caused this fear and became happy. Problems came like rainclouds. Aurangzeb had done a strict Tapasya in his last birth by which his radiance grew. There was no one to stop him or scold him. He did what he pleased. He showed his power in Mathura. He gave pain to the Brahmins and other Hindus. The places of worship were made impure. He stopped the Pooja and the recitation of the Vedas and Shastras. The Bhagwat Geeta Katha was not allowed.
Aurangzeb thought: “in some days, the scriptures of the Hindus will be destroyed. They will feel the pain and follow the Shariya. They will convert without force when they have no food or work. They will be rich within the Turks.” In this way Mathura was made impure. He wanted to go to the other places and destroy the Hindu religion.
9-27 The Destruction of Jaipur
Some other corrupt person told Nauranga: “there are many places in Jaipur where the Pooja of idols happens. Raja Jai Singh Svaee was the Raja in Jaipur who did many tasks for Hindus. He had made great Mandirs for the Hindus in Jaipur with gold and gem work. People see the Mandirs and become more devoted in their faith. The fools have love in their hearts there. The people have made that place a means to collect money. They worship the idols with faith. The idols are made with great skills by skilled craftsmen. They are beautiful and cladded with golden jewellery. Strands of pearls hang from the doors. The stools are made of silver and gems on which the idols stand on. Expensive Chaurs are waived over the idols made of gold and silver. There is as much wealth in the Mandirs as the Rajas have in their treasuries. The Rajas have spent a lot of money on the Mandirs. They have expensive fans being waived. They have many celebrations of Diwali, Janmashtami, and other days there. Their Nagaras, conches, bells, Ransinghas and dhundhabs play there. They come together and do Jaikaras. They bow to the idols. They stand with their hands folded. Jai Singh goes and gives the Pandits money himself. The Pandits have become rich. The Pooja of the Teeraths and the Katha of Puranas are done there. This place is the pillar of the Hindus. Destroy these people from the world. The Turks will illuminate with ease after the destruction of Jaipur. The Hindus will see the destruction and their faith will be broken. They will read the Kalima with joy then.” The Qazis and the Maulanas convinced Nauranga in this way.
Aurangzeb headed to Jaipur from Mathura. He took his army on elephants and horses. He took hundreds of thousands of soldiers there. Canons, bulls, elephants and horses travelled. The bells were heard. They fired rifles to cause panic and fear. The earth shook as the army entered Rajasthan. Their flags were unfurled. Their Nagaras sounded. The army was ready to fight at all times. Loud noises were made by the army. It was the Badshah coming. The soldiers had weapons and jewellery. Their clothes were multi-coloured as per their regiments and tasks. There was no opposition due to fear. The other Rajas all surrendered their commands to the Badshah. The army travelled and arrived in Jaipur. They saw Mandirs and Thakur Duaras everywhere. There were idols everywhere, looking radiant. There were different coloured flags at all the Mandirs. The Mandirs were beautiful. Sounds of conches being blown could be heard. Bells were rung. Bishanpadhs (type of poetic measure) were being sung with joy. Aurangzeb set up camp around the city. He saw the radiance of the Hindus and burned with jealousy. He said: “these unwise people worship the idols. They have setup their false shops everywhere. They play like children. They have made a play out of this. I am here now and they know. The Kafirs still blow the conches. They shouldn’t do this while I am here.” He commanded his officers: “get the labourers and start breaking the Mandirs and idols.” The corrupt sinner gave out the commands. The labourers brought iron sledgehammers to break the Mandirs and idols. The huge Mandirs were demolished. If someone tried stopping them, they would get beaten. If someone yelled out in grief, nobody heard them. They were to be arrested for that. Many Hindus saw this and ran away. They feared for their lives.
As the Mandirs were being demolished, some Hindus ran to the Rajas and said: “Nauranga the problematic person has come. He is destroying everything. The Thakur Duaras are being demolished. The parts of the Moorthis are being thrown in dirty places. He wants to convert everyone to Islam. If someone speaks up, he arrests them.” Raja Jai Singh Svaee heard this and was upset. He couldn’t think of anything to do. He decided to meet Aurangzeb. He met with his ministers and said: “without meeting him, nothing can be solved.” Raja Jai Singh took his senior officers and went to meet Aurangzeb. He took many gifts, pearls and diamonds along with golden coins, 2 elephants with golden howdahs with Zarri work; 11 horses with golden saddles who were clever; pashmina cloths; and came to Aurangzeb. The Raja and his minsters humbly folded their hands and stood in front of Aurangzeb. Raja Jai Singh spoke with respect: “why did you trouble yourself in coming here? You could have written to me. I could have done your work for you with ease. I would have had the Thakur Duaras demolished. Whatever you thought of, I believe it too. You came this far for no reason.” Nauranga figured out that Raja Jai Singh was trying to please him. Nauranga, the corrupt fool, said harsh words: “you shouldn’t be involved in this. Don’t worry about it. Stay in your home. Don’t say anything against my wish. The bad ways of the Hindus that are spreading in the world, I will erase it all. They do fake rituals for the purpose of making money. They will be in pain in both worlds.” Raja Jai Singh heard this and came back to his home. He was worried and upset. There was nothing he could do. He had given a lot of gifts to Aurangzeb and did nothing out of fear.
Raja Jai Singh said to the Brahmins and Bairagis: “I am powerless in front of him. Whatever is the will of the Thakurs, that is what will happen. The truth can never be erased.” The Pandits saw the bad policies and helplessness. They took the Moorthis and ran away. They hid the Moorthis in their homes. Some were caught as they ran away. The Moorthis and their wealth were confiscated. The Moorthis were broken by the hammers into pieces and thrown on to the ground. The materials for the Poojas were taken. The big Mandirs were demolished. The flags were cut down. The Pujaris were worried. They were told: “read the Kalima and become Muslims. We will make you big Mosques. You can sit inside them with a lot of money. Get deeds to lands written by the Badshah. Take the land and be happy. Be happy in this world. When you die, you will go to Heaven.” The Pujaris were bullied and assaulted in many ways. Problems were created for them by the Malaich. The Hindus were helpless and powerless. Nobody could speak up. They recited “Ram, Ram,” in their hearts. There were 1,100 Mandirs that were demolished quickly. After destroying them, they said: “don’t rebuild them. Whoever rebuilds them, they will be punished.” In this way, the Dharma of the Hindus was spoiled. There was chaos in Jaipur. Everyone stayed home out of fear. Nobody came outside to meet others and talk.
9-28 The Destruction of Pushkar
Destroying 1,100 Mandirs in Jaipur caused fear into the hearts of the Hindus. The radiance of the Turks was like a fully developed fire. At night time, Aurangzeb held a court. The Qazis and Mullahs were gathered. They were stubborn and fundamentalists. They all came into the court. Aurangzeb said to them: “the Mandirs have been demolished here. They won’t be able to build them again. People have been arrested and punished. The idols have been destroyed. The Mandirs have been demolished. There is fear in their hearts. They will lose faith in their Dharma. When they see the idols of their Gods broken, they will lose faith. Let’s go somewhere else where the Hindus are strong. Tell me so we can go there. I will punish them. When you punish someone in an important place, the news spreads. We will show them our supreme religion. Thousands will know about this and be scared. They won’t have to be forced into the Shariya. They will know of the greatness of the Turks.” When the Shariya followers heard this, they were really happy. They respected Nauranga and said: “we have noticed that you do exactly what is in our minds. Oh Badshah Salamat, you have already said what we wanted to say. You should do such a task which scares many. Just as you destroyed Mathura, an important place, there is another place called “Pushkar” nearby. Hundreds of thousands come to bathe there. Many types of donations are given there. Hindus from afar come there. They worship the idols and give a lot of gifts. If we take over the Teerath, thousands will convert to Islam. There are big Mandirs there. Hindus have made beautiful Mandirs there. They are cladded with gold, silver and diamonds. Let’s destroy the Mandirs and the idols. Scare the worshippers.” Nauranga heard this and said: “get ready to go.” Hundreds of Nagaras sounded. Dhols and Ransinghas sounded. The army left. Horses and elephants were decorated. The whole army headed to Pushkar.
Aurangzeb and the army arrived at the edge of Pushkar. They all set up camp there. The Pushkar Sarovar was oval in shape. Many soldiers set up camp. Aurangzeb saw the Teerath. He saw the Mandirs with the Moorthis inside. There were many Mandirs there. (Brahma ji’s Mandir is in Pushkar). The Moorthis had gold and diamonds. Bishanpadhs were sung. The food was offered to the Moorthis. Aartis were being done with joy. The corrupt Nauranga set up camp. The Pandits saw Aurangzeb and got scared. Some ran away. The soldiers came into the Mandirs and picked up the Moorthis and threw them outside. The small Moorthis were taken by the Pandits. They didn’t want the Turks to disrespect them. The soldiers took them as well. They spent 1 night there.
The sinner woke up in the morning and roamed the area. He saw the Mandirs and the beautiful Moorthis. They were made of silver, marble and stone. One Mandir was the greatest. It was the biggest in the world. The Moorthi of Varah Bhagawan was there. Everyone came to that Mandir for worship. It was 85 yards high. The sinner had it measured. He got jealous and said: “destroy this one first. Then demolish the other Mandirs. Destroy the idols with hammers. Convert the people into Islam, otherwise kill them. Make them read the Kalima right away.” Thousands of servants got to work. Whoever yelled out, they were punished. They would beat them up or kill them. They arrested some. The beautiful Mandir, made of marble, was demolished. It was like a blacksmith hammering iron. The hammering made loud noises. They threw the demolished pieces far away. The Turks were happy to see this. These fools didn’t know that they were destroying their own radiance.
The other Thakur Duaras were also slowly destroyed. The arms and legs of the Moorthis were broken and thrown on to the streets. The materials of Pooja were thrown on to the street. The Hindus tried to hide the stuff but they couldn’t do anything. The problem with the Hindu Rajas was that they had deceived each other due to greed. They didn’t think of unity. They thought of themselves and came to this point. The Kshatriya Hindus no longer kept Shasters nor did they practise Shastervidya. For this reason, the Khalsa is never to let go of the Shasters. Not a single Devi or Devata is without hair or Shasters.
Aurangzeb was like Haranakash. The Hindus were in pain. The Tapasya of the Malaich was too much. There was no solution for this. Saam (seeking the shelter), Dhaam (bribe), Bhed (dividing) or Dhand (punishment) was of no use. The Hindus stood near the Teerath. The Mandirs were all destroyed. Aurangzeb did as he wished to do. He sat and watched. The Mandirs and Moorthis were destroyed. This Teerath had a lot of water. He said: “this Sarovar needs to be filled up. Throw the garbage here. Nobody should be able to rebuild it. Mathura had the Jamuna. I couldn’t stop that. It flows day and night. It’s new water everyday. That can’t be stopped. You can try but you will lose. This Sarovar can be filled though. Throw dirt and mud into it. If this is done, the Teerath will be destroyed. They won’t be able to rebuild the Mandirs.” The people of his court said with their hands folded: “your wish is our command. If you wished to get rid of the Jamuna, we would have done that too. We would have made the effort. This Sarovar is small. It’s an easy task. It should be filled up. We are waiting for your command. Watch what we do. Without destroying the Sarovar, the Mandirs will be built again. This place is a pillar of the Hindus. The Hindus think this is a miracle. They think the Sarovar is a miracle. Whatever is your wish, Khuddah will complete it.” Nauranga was happy to hear this. He said: “put mud in it. I will stay here till it is done. I want to see it done. Use a lot of people. Pay them more. When the Sarovar is filled, I will sleep on it at night. I will go somewhere else then. I will destroy other Teeraths. I will convert the whole world into Turks. I will destroy the Hindus.” He then told everyone to hurry up: “do it quickly! Bring the workers. Start filling the Sarovar from your sides.”
The workers were called and given money to work. They started working. They put dirt and mud into the Sarovar. Many baskets filled with soil and mud were put into the Sarovar. The workers did the work as fast as they could. Knowing the Badshah’s command, the workers worked fast. They wanted to make the water go away. The supervisors stood at different sides of the Sarovar and made the workers do the work. They workers showed their skills. They wanted the Badshah to see them and be happy with them. Thousands of workers were working. They put the soil in the Sarovar, quickly.
9-29 The Pushkar Teerath Becomes Angry
In order to level the whole Pushkar Teerath to the ground, thousands of workers did the demolition. There was a lot of noise as this happened. Some dug soil and some brought it. One would throw the soil into the Sarovar and one would bring it. One would direct the workers and one would pay the workers to work. They stood at the edge near the Teeraths. Some would say: “hurry up!” Soil was going into the lake. The water would come up and cause bubbles. There was a big crowd of workers where there used to be pilgrims. Thousands were watching. The workers threw garbage into the Sarovar to fill it up. They put baskets of soil which would disappear into the water. The land was at a higher elevation and the lake was quite deep (said to have been formed when Brahma ji threw his lotus flower). Wood and soil went into the lake. The Turks made a lot of noise. Lakhs of Rajitpuns were spent on filling the Sarovar. Everyone was paid.
The people of nearby villages heard about the work and came to earn money. They earned a lot of money. The Badshah used money from the Royal Treasury. Everyone got paid in the evening. Many workers would sit and get paid in the evening. The treasurers counted and paid the money. Many days passed in this way. Everyone was shocked that the Sarovar was not getting filled. They all made many attempts but they gave up. They put a lot of rocks, soil and grass but they couldn’t understand where it all went. It was as though someone was taking the stuff out of the Sarovar. They all made guesses. It seemed like all of the money was going to get spent here. The fools were still working. They were stubborn. The Chavghutta tried hard. Lakhs of people made an effort and yelled: “fill it!” Many ran fast and tried to fill the Sarovar from every direction. Many put baskets of soil. Many more days passed.
From some sides, the Sarovar was filled. Aurangzeb was getting happy at the progress. He said to his people: “set up tents on the part where the Sarovar is filled. Do it quickly. I want to sleep on top of the Sarovar. The whole army will sleep here. I will fulfill my declaration. We will leave tomorrow. The workers will continue the work. Who knows if I will come back here or not.” The Fraash (the workers that set up tents and rugs) set up the tents for the Badshah and the army. The tents were grand. They had zarri and beautiful posts. Colourful canopies were added. The ropes were made of silk. There were tassels of zarri on all sides. The domes were golden on top. They shined from far away. When it was around 5 pm, Nauranga went inside the tent. The tents had rooms with furniture. The army, cooks, Begums and servants went inside as well. The materials were all brought in. The jewellery and personal items came in. The expensive rugs were laid out. Pots and plates made of gold and silver were there. Dinner was cooked. After eating, the fool Nauranga laid on his bed. He was happy. He slept in peace, after about 2 hours, when it was really dark, everyone went to their tents. The Hindus who were in pain, were crying out in pain.
At midnight, the water level began to rise. The water came gushing out from the depths of the lake. Thousands of gallons came out. Nobody got a chance to prepare. The water came into the tent. Where Nauranga was sleeping, the water filled in his room. His bed was going to go underwater. The expensive rugs became wet. The guards saw this and yelled: “the water is rising. Get up Badshah! Your bed will drown!” Aurangzeb got up quickly and came out. He got on top of his elephant and said: “take me out of here.” His furniture and personal items all sunk into the lake. Nobody was able to save anything. Everyone was worried for their lives. The women all ran for their lives. The Begums didn’t have a chance to gather their clothes. The maids all ran too. Many torches were lit. They all tried to see if anyone drowned. It was like day with all the torches lit. The Badshah and his Begums were in trouble. There was a lot of water. Whatever they filled, the water was higher now. The howdahs couldn’t be tied in time. The elephants were mounted bareback. The saddles sunk. There was nothing to put on the horses. The weapons sunk. The rifles sunk. The gunpowder was wet. There was a lot of noise. Everyone was told not to stand. The Teerath was angry. The whole army was given pain. The Hindus were happy. The Turks were in trouble. The Teerath made the water rise. The Turks were anxious. The ones that were in the lower area, they drowned and died. Their items drowned as well. Food, salt and sweets were all destroyed in the water. Half of the items drowned. Their losses couldn’t be counted. Many things were damaged; plates, pots and beds. This was a problem for the Turks. Pushkar showed the Turks its power.
This Teerath had a lot of power. Its radiance would wash sins away. Brahma made this Teerath in Satyuga. Its glory was spread throughout the 3 Loks. Bathing in the Sarovar washed the sins away. The Turks committed a grave blasphemy by disrespecting it. They were punished and couldn’t save themselves. The army was in pain. There was a lot of yelling everywhere. A lot of damage was done. People said: “look how much damage happened. They almost drowned.” Nauranga thought to himself: “I am stuck. There is nothing that can be done now. Its night now. It’s hard to do anything right now. Nobody knows what happened. How can the army be helped? Who can stop the water from coming up? The workers can’t do anything now. Where did the water come from? Its hard to see right now. There is nothing we can do.” The Turk Badshah was worried. He understood the greatness of the Teerath. He thought to himself: “my Dhera has drowned. I will have to make a request to save my army. I will have to please it.” Seeing the greatness of the Teerath, Aurangzeb became humble and folded his two hands: “forgive me, I have sinned and didn’t know your greatness. I know your power now. You are the greatest Teerath. It has been shown to the world. Your glory has grown even more now. I have demolished a lot here. I destroyed the biggest Mandir. I will make these Mandirs again. The soil that was thrown in your waters, I will have it taken out. I will give food in your name. I will do your Seva till I remain alive.” He became humble and prayed. He got off his elephant and bowed his head.
The Teerath lowered its waters. The water went back to its normal level. It came down to a lower flooding. The army had land to stand on. They all ringed their wet clothes. They tried looking for their weapons. The army was flustered and in chaos. Everyone found a place and sat. They spent the night upset.
In the morning, they all woke up. The Darogas were all called by Aurangzeb. He said to them: “pay the workers double and have all of the soil taken out of the lake. Throw the soil far from here. The Mandirs that were demolished, the high ones; have them rebuilt. Make them the same as they were before. Do this quickly. Build them quickly. Make them as they were before. Spend the money for it. I have seen Pushkar with great powers. There is nothing fake about this place. There is no hypocrisy here.” The Shah mounted his elephant and left from there. The whole army went to a place near Ajmer.
9-30 The Fraud of the Mujaavars of Ajmer
Till today, the marks of the destruction can be seen in Pushkar. It is known in the world of how the Turk Emperor ran away.
Aurangzeb set up camp in Ajmer. His whole army set up camp with him. After staying a night, when the Martand (sun) arose in the morning, Aurangzeb called all of the Mujaavars of the Dargah of Khwaja Shareef and said: “what is this show that you do? You loot people and gather their money. Why hasn’t my bow been strung here? (It was a belief that if a king kept a bow there, it would be strung by itself if the king were to be victorious) How did Dara Shikoh’s bow get strung by itself? You must have conspired with Shah Jahan to make Dara Shikoh’s bow strung. You told him that his eldest son would win and that Kwaja Shareef was happy with Dara Shikoh. You gave him respect. Tell me, why is Dara Shikoh not the Emperor? He was killed and he didn’t get the kingdom. He wandered around in doubt. You didn’t see me as the one who would sit on the Throne. You didn’t respect me but I am the Emperor. Why did this happen? Tell me. What I think is, is that you performed this fraud. Tell me the truth! Who strings the bow in reality? I will test you and see the truth.” The Mujaavars all gathered but didn’t give a response. They said: “we don’t know. Only Allah knows. It’s up to Khuddah on who’s request is to be fulfilled. It’s not up to us. What can we do?” Aurangzeb figured out that they were lying. He thought to himself: “they do this to collect money.” The Badshah called some workers and said: “dig the area.” He sent two of his Umraavs as well. He said: “go and see what you find around the grave.” They all obeyed and started to dig.
As the workers dug the ground, they found a soft area. As they dug further, they saw a tunnel. They went through the tunnel. It led them to the home of the eldest Mujaavar. It was now known that the Mujaavars would go through the tunnel to strung the bow at night.
All of the Muslim kings would come here. Whoever came here with their disputes, they would come and bring their bows here. Whosever’s bow would be strung, they would become the Emperor. The Mujaavars were in fact faking it. The Delhi Emperors came here many times. They would bow here and give a lot of money. If they were ever in doubt, they would keep their bows here and say: “will it succeed, or no?” The bow would be kept inside the beautiful temple. They would close the door from the outside. They would lock the door and keep a guard there.
The Mujaavars had made a tunnel to go inside the temple at night. Whoever bribed them, they would have that person’s bow strung. In the morning, the bow would be strung. These Mujaavars had set up this farce. The Emperor would apply his decision in this way. If the Emperor trusted this place, the public would follow it as well. They had set their power in this way. They showed their fake miracles and earned money in this way.
When the workers walked the tunnel, they caught the Mujaavars. They had set up this façade from many years. Aurangzeb had exposed their game from many years. They had cheated many people for money. They used to amaze people with the stringing of the bow. People thought it was Khwaja Shareef that did it. The Delhi Badshah would come here many times. They would determine their win or loss. This would give faith to the Emperor. The Mujaavars looted everyone. The Hindus and Muslims would come here. Nauranga exposed them. Without the miracles, no one would trust them. In front of Aurangzeb, fakeness didn’t work. The Mujaavars would fool everyone.
Aurangzeb collected all of the Mujaavars. He said: “the fools and wise didn’t understand this. The Rajas and paupers were all fooled. You have been looting everyone from many years. Nobody knew your secret. I have seen their reality today. You have been fooling many from many years.” The Mujaavars were scared. Aurangzeb spoke to them with anger. The Mujaavars were frightened. He said: “what is this fakeness? You showed fake miracles to everyone. You looted money from everyone. Nobody knew your secret. You did this sin everyday. You did a grave sin. You have been looting from many generations. Your elders did this too. They didn’t let any king know your secret. They all paid you. You should be sentenced to death. This is what you deserve.” He scared them all. The Mujaavars didn’t know what to say. Aurangzeb took their assets and beat them up. He took their wealth and lands away. He punished them and let them go. He told them not to do this again: “let go of this fakeness. If someone gives you money, take that and eat from there. If you earn money in this way again, I will have you killed.” He threatened them. They were exposed. They could hardly breath. They were released and they came to their homes. They hid in their homes and didn’t show their faces.
Aurangzeb was happy to expose these people. He travelled away from there. Wherever he saw a Thakur Duara, he had it demolished. He would have the Moorthis broken and thrown far away. The Pujaris were threatened and terrorized. Aurangzeb would scold them, beat them and punish them. He had Parwanas written and sent to many places. Wherever the Soobas and Umraavs were strong; wherever the leaders were, they were given this Proclamation: “there is to be no idols anywhere. Destroy the Mandirs. Do not rebuild them. If someone converts to Islam out of greed, give them what they ask for.” The Parwanas were sent to all of the districts. Everyone respected the proclamations and put them to their heads. The Hindus in all of the lands were scared. They lost their radiance. Their Dharam was lost. The Thakur Duaras were demolished. The Moorthis were destroyed and thrown on to the streets. Nobody could do anything. They just suffered. They would sit quietly in their homes.
