9-21 The Katha of Sant Sarmad

The beautiful Katha of Sarmad, listen oh listeners to his Katha.  He was a great saint who had the Aatam Gyaan.  He was the knower of the Brahm.  His parents were really rich.  They were Jewish (possibly from Armenia) merchants.  Sarmad was an only child of his parents, who was raised with love.  He got what he wished to eat and wear.  When he was around 20 years old, his parents died.  He was left alone with a lot of money.  His good Karma from his previous lives came to fruition and he began to do Satsangat.  For Saints to live in, he made many homes for them.  He had a lot of money and he made many homes for them to live in.  If some saints came from a foreign land, he would serve them and keep them there.  He washed their feet and gave them food to eat.  He gave them beds to sleep on.  He served them in many ways.  He messaged their feet with love.  He would fan them in the heat.  In the cold, he would light a fire and give them blankets.  He served them with love.  He was always ready to serve them.  He made them happy.  When the saints would leave in the morning, Sarmad would see them off with many gifts and money.  He made his riches successful.  He would walk with them for a while before seeing them off.  He would bow to their feet and thank them for the opportunity to serve them.  He would fold his hands and say: “if you know the way to Khuddah, please tell me.  Please see me as your servant and connect me to Khuddah.  Please see me as weak and be compassionate towards me.  I am poor from my mind.  Please give me the knowledge of the Compassionate One.”  The saints would see the young man and give him wisdom: “do the Simran of Allah.  His name is the purest thing.  Do the Simran and do the Satsangat of saints.  Serve the saints and destroy your ego and pride.”  The young man, Sarmad, met the saints of Prabhoo.  He served the saints.  If he saw a saint without clothes, he would buy clothes and shoes for them.  He asked everyone about the path to Khuddah.  He did Seva all day and all night.  He used his money to serve them.  He was a millionaire.  Saints would come to him everyday.  Sarmad served them with everything he had.  He continued to see them off in the distance and ask about the Path of Khuddah.

One day, a complete saint named Shah Hussain came to his home.  Kavi Santokh Singh ji says: “his name could have been Shah Hussain or something else.  I am not sure of this.”  Sarmad served him with love.  He gave him food and massaged his feet at night.  He made the saint very happy.  In the morning, the saint was ready to leave.  Sarmad saw him off for a few miles.  As he was leaving, Sarmad said: “tell me Sant ji, tell me the path to Khuddah if you know the way.  Please bless me.  I am weak.  You are compassionate, oh Dervish.  Bless me.”  Shah Hussain saw Sarmad’s effort.  He saw that the young man had served many saints.  To test him, the saint said: “spend 5 Rajitpuns and buy a nice pair of shoes for me.  Buy me a nice pair.  Hurry up and bring it now.  Don’t delay.  Bring the best one.”  Sarmad heard this and folded his hands.  He said: “wait here.  I will get it right now.”  Sarmad went to the market and bought the best shoes.  He brought the shoes back and put them on the saint’s feet.  The Dervish saw Sarmad’s devotion and said: “the wish you have to meet Khuddah, stay here till I don’t return.”  The saint went away somewhere.  Sarmad stayed there.  He waited for the saint.  He endured pain, standing there alone; without food and water.  Two days had passed.  The saint saw Sarmad’s devotion.  He further tested Sarmad.  He tested him in various ways.  Sarmad passed the tests in every way.  The saint became compassionate and hugged him.  He told him the path to Khuddah.  The love of Prabhoo illuminated in Sarmad’s heart.  He was focussed on the pleasure of the love for Khuddah.  He did Simran of Allah, all day and all night.  He said “Allah” with every breath.  He was drenched in this love.  He took all his money and spent it on the poor and saints.  He sold his home and the properties that he had.  He spent it all on saints and the poor.  The expensive items that he had in his home, he gave them to the Dervishes.  His carefree nature got deeper and deeper.  He was drenched in the love for Allah, all the time.  He began to forget his body.  From Iran, he wandered everywhere and ended up in Delhi, Hindustan.  He left all his wealth and property.  He didn’t wear any clothes.  He wandered naked.  He didn’t see his body anymore.  His meditation got deeper and deeper.  His focus kept climbing up and up.  He was detached from his mind and body.  He became Khuddah.  The powers stood in front of him, waiting for his command.  Niddhis and Siddhis came to him.  He didn’t honour those powers.  He didn’t care for them.  He had the love for Parmeshwar.  He went from saying “Allah” to “An-Al-Haq” (I am the Truth).  He had no desire for anything in the world.  He was engrossed in the love of Allah.  He saw king and pauper as the same.  He was always in the state of bliss.  His mind was always focused.  He was carefree.

One day, Sarmad was standing in the market, naked.  Nauranga passed by on his elephant.  He had thousands of servants and officers with him.  The servants were moving people out of the way for Aurangzeb to pass.  They pushed everyone away.  They came to Sarmad and said: “don’t stand here naked.  The Badshah is coming.”  Nauranga heard this and came close to Sarmad.  Nauranga, sitting on top of his elephant, gave Sarmad a cloth 2 yards long and said: “cover yourself up.  It is against the Shriya to be naked outside (a man should be covered from the belly button to the knees).”  After saying this, the Badshah went on forward.  He travelled around as he pleased.  After a few hours, Aurangzeb came back to the same spot and saw Sarmad standing there.  Sarmad had tied the cloth to his head.  His body was still naked.  Nauranga came close to Sarmad again.  He was angry and said: “what nonsense of a web is this?  You have let go of your shame in the world.  I gave a cloth to cover yourself up.  Why didn’t you cover yourself?  Do you not fear me?  Why do you wish to continue this blasphemy?”  Sarmad heard this and said: “I have seen you without wisdom.  Is this the wisdom you use to rule?  You wish to be praised amongst everyone.  You are the Badshah.  You gave me a gift.  I respected your gift and tied it to my head.  You didn’t understand this greatness.  In return, you are scolding me.  If I had taken your gift and tied it to my Ling, would it not have been a disrespectful act?  You should have been happy with what I did.  Looks like you have no wisdom.  You rule with this type of wisdom.  How will you be just with Hindus and Turks?”  Aurangzeb heard this and burned in anger.  He couldn’t think of an answer.  Embarrassed and in pain, Aurangzeb went home.  He was jealous.  He couldn’t understand the greatness of the saint.  He wanted to get back at Sarmad: “I will think of something to arrest this Fakir.  I will find something on him.”  Sarmad stayed naked.  He was in a single-state of mind.  He swayed around in his bliss.  He was carefree.  He was connected to the Prabhoo.  He never forgot the Prabhoo.   

9-22 Sarmad Does not Follow the Shriya

In this way, Sarmad was carefree.  He was a “Mast.”  He would stand in the market everyday and wander.  His attention was focussed in Khuddah.  He didn’t think or care for anything else.  He would consume cannabis sometimes and meditate.  He didn’t care for the outside world.  If someone gave him some food, he would eat it and remain satiated.  He was without desires and spent his time in the world in this way.  He would sit alone and be in bliss.  One day, he was drinking a cannabis drink.  The Maulana in front of Jamma Masjid saw him.  The Maulana followed the Shriya.  He said to Sarmad: “do you not know that this is not allowed by the Shriya?  You are consuming cannabis.  Are you not afraid?”  Sarmad responded: “I broke those chains.  This noose is for you.”  The corrupt-minded Maulana was angry after hearing this.  He told on Sarmad to Aurangzeb.  He said to him: “the Shriya is not being followed in the city.  Sarmad is going against the Shriya.  If you don’t do anything, the Deen will not be followed.  Sarmad, the Mast, broke the Shriya Law and didn’t care.  He drinks cannabis among everyone.  If we say anything to him, he says: “Shriya is your noose.”  Aurangzeb heard this and became angry.  He said to his servants: “arrest him and put chains in his feet.  Throw him in jail.  Release him if he agrees to follow the Shriya after a few months.  Release him when he follows the Shriya.”

The police arrested Sarmad and chained his feet.  They locked him up in jail but Sarmad was still in bliss.  He was happy in the jail as well.  He did the Simran of the Prabhoo, Allah, and was in joy.  He didn’t feel the pain of the jail.  When the guards of the jail and other people saw that Sarmad was not worried nor in pain, they told Nauranga: “the Mast is not worried.  He is not in any pain while being in jail.  He sits and speaks as he did before.  He still laughs as he did before.”  The Shah then said: “let him go.  He has been here for a few months.  Scare him and threaten for the future.  Tell him to follow the Shriya.  He will be happy then, otherwise we will arrest him again.”

Sarmad was released and given the Shah’s message.  Sarmad then said: “the jails are for the trapped.  The ones trapped in Shriya are in jail.  They are in pain.  They will be chained in the afterlife.  Without Prabhoo’s compassion, no one can be released.  The ones who are released by the Truth, they are not in bonds anymore.  One can only know the truth in the court of Allah.  Who is in bonds and who is free, that will only be known there.”  Sarmad went to the market and stayed in the market again.  He used to wander around the Chandni Chownk, Lal Qila area.  He found the path to Khuddah.  He was the “Aproksh Gyaani,” the One who had seen the Truth.  He didn’t care about anyone.  He didn’t listen to anyone.  He stayed carefree like an intoxicated person.

When Dara Shikoh was arrested, he was told about it.  He said in a loud voice: “I will give him my Throne.  I will give Dara Shikoh all of my Empires.  Without a doubt, he will be the Supreme Badshah.”  He would say this many times in a day.  Many people heard this, everyday.  The slanderers told Nauranga about this.  There was nothing Nauranga could do.  He would say: “he speaks nonsense.  I will kill him one day.  How will he give Dara the Empire?  He is dead.  He won’t be found.  The Mast calls himself a big Dervish but he speaks lies.  He is a fake Sadhoo.  All of the fake Sadhoos side with Dara Shikoh.  I will kill them all.  I will punish them all in a few days.  When my kingdom is stable, I will catch them all.”  The corrupt Aurangzeb thought about this.  He didn’t like anything but the Shariya.  He did what he pleased.  He enforced the Shriya on all.  The saints who were Hindus or Muslims, they all praised Dara Shikoh.  Aurangzeb couldn’t tolerate this.  Just as a Chakva is in pain seeing the moon, Aurangzeb was in pain seeing the truth.  He arrested Sarmad many times.  He tried to convince Sarmad many times.  Sarmad did not listen to anything.  He was a true Mast, carefree and detached.  He was engrossed in the Naam.  He would shout out loud: “I will seat Dara Shikoh on the Throne.  He will get the infinite unending Empire.  Khuddah has seated him next to him.  Khuddah has been compassionate towards him.”  The people would tell Aurangzeb about this.  Aurangzeb would get angry.  How much can I (Kavi Santokh Singh ji) mention this?  Sarmad was arrested many times.

One day, Aurangzeb came to the Jamma Masjid to recite the Jumma Nimaaz.  He came inside the Mosque with many people.  Everyone did the Wazoo and stood in lines to recite the Nimaaz.  Everyone was quiet.  The Qazi stood in front.  Sarmad came to the Mosque as well.  He wasn’t afraid of anyone.  He stood at the front but on the outside of the Mosque.  He was naked.  He began to recite the Nimaaz.  The Qazi recited the Azaan (Baangh).  It was really loud.  Sarmad shouted out loud at the same time.  Everyone heard what Sarmad said: “oh Qazi you blind fool!  Who are you calling out to so loud?  The Beloved Khuddah who you call out to, I have seen him under my feet (explaining that Khuddah is everywhere).  You shout out loud but remain empty.  Without being shown the way by the True Guru, you cannot grab him by your hand.”  Many Umraavs heard this as did the whole Mosque.  Many other people heard this and said: “Sarmad, are you a fool?  What are you saying?  If the Shah hears you, he will punish you.  He kills anyone who does not follow the Shariya Law.  He does not know good from bad.  He doesn’t know about your powers.”  Sarmad said: “what do I have that he can take away from me?  Nothing is mine.  What will he spoil of mine?  I have discarded the attachment of my body and of everything else.  There is no punishment for me.”

When Nauranga came out of the Mosque, he was told by the slanderers about Sarmad: “he says Khuddah is under his feet.  He does not fear you.”  Aurangzeb, the fool, gave a strict and harsh command: “arrest him and throw him in jail.  Chain is hands and feet.  Keep a heavy chain around his neck as well.  He is a fake and influences others.  He does not follow Shariya and spoils others.  When he gets punished, he will follow the Shariya.  If he doesn’t listen, his head will be chopped off.  People will be afraid then.”  The Badshah went to his fort after saying this.  Sarmad was arrested but was not afraid or in pain.  He was the Aatam Gyaani and in bliss.  He was the same outside as he was in jail.  He was not afraid.  He said what he wanted to.  The tyrants tortured him but he didn’t care.  His attention was focused in the One.  The officers tried to scared him.  They told the Badshah: “he doesn’t agree to follow the Shariya.  Looks like we will have to kill him. He speaks what he wishes to.”  Aurangzeb was angry hearing this. 

9-23 Sarmad Executed

In those days, a messenger came to Delhi who was sent by the King of Rome.  The messenger had a letter that said: “What is Shukar (gratitude) and what is Sabbar (patience)?”  The messenger was to ask the scholars of Aurangzeb.  The King of Rome had said to the messenger: “if Aurangzeb and his scholars cannot define these words, then there is a saint named Sarmad there.  Ask him what these words mean and write them down.”  The messenger entered Delhi and set up camp.  He then went to the Shah and met him.  He said to Aurangzeb: “Sire, I have heard of your praises in the foreign.  You are known as a scholar and that you have 1,400 Ulamas (scholars) in your court.  My king heard about this and sent me.  He sent me to ask what “Shukar” and “Sabbar” means.  What are the meanings of these words?  Tell me.  Ask your scholars.”

Aurangzeb called his Umraavs and Maulanas.  They all came and Aurangzeb told them their task.  The scholars spoke according to their intellects using references from the Quran and other books.  The messenger was not satisfied with the descriptions of Shukar and Sabbar.  He didn’t like any of the 1,400 scholars who had given their meanings.  All of the wise people of Delhi were called by the Badshah.  They all tried to define the words according to their wisdoms.  The messenger from Rome was not happy with the definitions.  He felt that the scholars were just regurgitating what was written in the books.  The scholars lacked logic and experience.  They didn’t even have faith in what they were saying.  The discussions went on for many days in the Divaan-e-Aam, Lal Qila. 

The messenger was upset.  He then decided to go to Sarmad, whom he was told about by his King.  He asked other people about the whereabouts of Sarmad.  He said: “where is Sarmad, the great and famous Dervish?”  People told him: “he is in jail.  He was charged with not following the Shariya Law.”  When the Roman King’s messenger heard this, he figured out that Nauranga was a tyrant.  He saw him as a really corrupt and cruel person.  The messenger went to the jail to see Sarmad.  He saw the chains around his feet, hands and neck.  The messenger folded his hands and bowed.  He sat down, seeing Sarmad as a saint.  He told him why he had come: “I have come from Rome to see you.  I have heard about you there.  You are well-known as a great person in Rome.  Many have praised you, greatly.  I see the state you are in now.  I know that this means nothing to you.  I wish to know the meaning of 2 words.  ”Shukar” and “Sabbar” are spoken about in the whole world but what do they mean?  Please tell me.”  Sarmad heard this and said: “if you wish to know the meaning of these two words, then come to me early in the morning.  Come before sunrise.  Bring a mashk full of water and a new Dhoti.  I will tell you the meanings.”  The messenger went back to his camp and spent the night.

In the morning, the messenger got ready and got a cloth of 2 yards.  He got a mashk full of water.  He came back to Sarmad and stood in front of him.  He gave him both things.  Sarmad saw this and got up to bathe.  He took the mashk of water and put the water on top of his body.  He tied the Dhoti to his waste.  He stood up and said: “close your eyes and see.”  The messenger stood up and closed his eyes.  Sarmad put his hand on the messenger’s head and showed him amazing things.  He saw hundreds of thousands of Bhoots and Prayts standing.  They were all standing with their hands folded and facing Sarmad.  They were saying: “give us the permission to throw Delhi into the Jamuna.  We wish to destroy Delhi.”  Sarmad was not giving them the permission.  He was taking all of the torture on his body.  The Bhoots and Prayts had the homes in their hands.  They were powerful and standing in front of Sarmad.  Sarmad showed the messenger this.  He lifted his hand and said: “did you get your definitions?  Are you satisfied?”  The messenger folded his hands and said: “the miracle that I saw after closing my eyes, I was amazed but I still didn’t understand the definitions.  Please tell me what I saw.”  Sarmad then said: “I showed you this to give you the definitions.  The Prabhoo has given me many powers.  He has blessed me.  I was a weak person and the Prabhoo was compassionate towards me.  After having all of those powers, I am thankful.  I am in gratitude.  I was a small ant which the Parmeshwar made really big.  This is what gratitude means.  After having so much powers, I am still content and patient.  Those powers can destroy the kingdom.  I am sitting with patience.  He didn’t even say a harsh word to anyone.  I took all of the pain on this body.  Whatever pain they want to give, they can.  Till my head is here, I will be patient.  I won’t show my powers to these people.”  The messenger heard this and bowed to Sarmad’s feet.  He was satisfied with the definitions.  The messenger went back to Rome after condemning Aurangzeb. 

For a few more months, Sarmad remained in jail.  He was a Mast and so he was not scared.  He didn’t follow the Shariya as he said: “everything is made by Khuddah.  The human is nothing in front of Khuddah.”  People went to Aurangzeb and said: “Sarmad is not afraid.  He is fearless and doesn’t follow the Shariya.  He lives the life of blasphemy.”  The sinner, Aurangzeb, got angry and gave the command to cut his head off.  The command was announced to the beating of a Dhaunsa (drum).  Two guards holding spears brought Sarmad out.  The whole city found out about the command: “Sarmad’s head will be chopped off in front of everyone.”  People came to watch this execution.  Sarmad was without fear as his attention was focused on to the Prabhoo.  His mind was still.  He was told of the execution.  This made him happy as it was his time to leave his body.  Sarmad was taken to in front of Jamma Masjid in Delhi.  He was seated there.  His head was decapitated with a sword.  His head rolled off his body but his body did not fall.  He remained seated as he was before.  His finger moved to use his blood as ink.  His body wrote a Baint with his own blood on the wall.  Whoever would read this, Vairagya would come into their heart.  In this way, Sarmad was executed.  Aurangzeb was a sinner.  The Baint that he wrote was:

Sar Daray Raahay Dildaar Adha Shud, Chih Baja Shud – my head has been given to the Path of my beloved, this is very good.

Ee Baaray Giran Bhood, Adha Shud, Chih Baja Shud – it was a great burden that has been given now, this is very good.

The sinner killed him and did not know of the sin.  His kingdom, radiance and joy were now stained.  He had his brother Dara Shikoh killed 15 days before Sarmad was executed.  He killed a great saint like Sarmad and did not fear the fact that he was going to Hell.  Other Turk and Hindu saints were arrested under the Shariya Law.  Some were killed and some were forced to follow the Shariya.  Shah Jahan was also in jail.  The radiance of the kingdom spread far.  Aurangzeb gave his father 1 pot of water and gram flour to eat.  His father was always hungry and thirsty.  He was given little to eat.  He was tortured in jail.  From the father that the fool was born from, he took his peace away.  He killed him in the jail.  He committed many sins.  He did many other horrible things.  He was really foolish and without wisdom.  The one who would treat his own father so harshly, everyone feared him.  Nobody stopped him either.  His mind was so corrupt that it could not be put into words.  He sinned with many.  Oh wise listeners, his sins will be talked about ahead, by which his kingdom was destroyed.

9-24 Aurangzeb’s treatment towards Prostitutes and Sufi Fakirs

In this way, Nauranga killed his father and his brothers.  He was a corrupt sinner who gave pain to others.  He said: “I want everyone to follow the Shariya Law.  Whoever doesn’t follow it, they will be sentenced to death.”  He was determined to carry this out.  He was the most tyrant Mughal Emperor.  He was very stubborn.  Whoever was a scholar of Arabic and Farsi; and could translate them, those Maulanas were kept with Aurangzeb.  He gave them respect and money.  He stayed in their company.  They were blind to the path of Parmeshwar.  They were tied to the noose of Shariya.  It was the blind meeting the blind.  They were far from the form of Aatam Gyaan.  Shariya had made them blind.  How could they see the Path to Khuddah? 

Nauranga thought to himself: “there are many Veshwas (prostitutes/professional dancers) in the market.  They spend their whole life in Haraam.  This is not allowed in the Shariya.”  Nauranga gave the command to have all of the prostitutes to come meet him.  Some were old and some were young.  He said to them: “let go of your work.  Marry one man.  Otherwise you will feel pain in Hell.  You meet with many men and earn Haraam.”  The Veshwas spoke up: “this is our work for many generations.  We have been doing this for thousands of years.  The greatest Emperors have not stopped us.  (In a classical society, the Veshwas were an integral part as their presence controlled incest and pedophilia.  In studies of cultural musicology, the Veshwas were known as the best musicians and classical dancers as the more esteemed professionals were visited by kings and nobleman.  They gave rise to popular folk tunes and light classical music.  Many genres of music flourished in the brothels).  We were funded by the kings who built us homes, gave us jewellery and expensive clothes.  Our brothels were the catalyst for fashion, beauty and music to flourish.  Rich people came to us.  How can we let go of our occupation?  If you force us then we will give our lives at your door.  We will not be able to earn the respect in society.  (Note: although prostitution is not accepted in Sikhi, their existence is acknowledged.  There are many integral sections of society that exist for its normal functioning.  Religion and Law aim to curb chaos.  Indulgence in these types of acts take one away from Aatam Gyaan) Aurangzeb heard this and got angry.  He didn’t like what he heard.  He ordered many of the Veshwas to board a ferry.  The ferry was sailed into the Jamuna and taken to where the river current was strong.  He had them all drowned in the river.  Hundreds of Veshwas were killed.  There were cries of condemnation throughout the city.  They said: “he is unwise and will destroy the glory of his family.” 

There was a Peer with some powers in the city.  The surviving Veshwas went to that Peer and told him their issue: “this Nauranga is a tyrant.  He gives a lot of pain.  Save us from him.  He will destroy us all at once.”  The Peer heard them and became compassionate.  He was a singer and writer.  He wrote some lyrics and told the Veshwas: “sing this in the back-side of the Qila.  He won’t say anything to you then.”  The Veshwas obeyed and went behind the Lal Qila.

The Veshwas all got together and sang in a beautiful pitch.  Their singing reached Aurangzeb’s ears.  They sung out loud.  Nauranga understood that the composition was written by the Peer that he respected.  Aurangzeb gave the command: “if it be his wish, I won’t stop the Veshwas now.  I can’t disobey the Peer.  I bow my head to him.”  The Veshwas heard this and became happy.  They came to their homes and continued their work.  They were like someone caught in the snake’s burrow but saved.

There were Fakirs within the Turks who wore Soof cloth.  They would dance to the sound of a dholak as a form of meditation.  They would spin their heads and lose their senses while dancing.  Many of them lived in Delhi.  Nauranga called them to his court.  They were called around the city and presented in the Shah’s court.  Aurangzeb came close to them and said: “how do you lose your senses?  You lose sight of who you are and where you are.  You lose awareness of who is next to you.  What is in your mind at that point?  You lose control of yourself.  This is not written in Shariya anywhere.  I see this as fake.”  The determined Fakirs heard this and said: “what are you saying?  We do as we wish.  The Fakirs do as they wish.  The ones who follow the path of Khuddah, their minds are bound to the love of the Prabhoo.  The ones whose attentions are focused day and night, they are the lovers of that one home.  We play the Dholak and we dance for Khuddah.  We sing the praises of Khuddah in tune.  The love hits our heart and we lose our senses.  We lose awareness of our bodies.  We lose patience and lose sight of our clothes.  We only want to be connected to Khuddah at that point.  We are not aware of our bodies or minds.  It’s like going unconscious after being hit.  Their focus becomes like this.”  Nauranga heard this and said: “if what you say is true, I want to test this in the morning.  If you speak the truth, I will let you go.  If you are lying, you won’t be allowed to do this again.  Go home now and come in the morning.  Show me what happens to you.  You will be tested in the morning in front of me.  You won’t need to fear anything then, if I see this as real.  Show me this and prove yourself true.”

The Fakirs all came out and met each other.  They thought and discussed: “this Nauranga is a tyrant.  He won’t leave us alone unless he tests us.  He wants to see our power.”  They got worried and didn’t sleep the night.  In the morning, they all got ready and came back to Nauranga.  Nauranga had a stage made, supported by pillars.  It was 20 feet high.  The stage was covered in oil.  There were ovens of fire all around the stage.  Whoever would slip, would fall into the fiery ovens.  It was scary to look at.  The ovens were red hot.  It was hot to go close to them.  The stage was on top.  It was very slippery.  Singers were told to sit on top.  The Sufi Fakirs were called and seated on the stage.  The dholaks were then played.  The singers sang in Sur and Alaap.  The Dholak thaaps were played in Taal.  The Fakirs were afraid and no one lost their senses.  They couldn’t get into the meditative state as they were scared of slipping and falling into the oven.  One Fakir prayed: “Allah, only you are our support.  Oh Khuddah, you are our support.  Your name is “Parvadigaar,” who sustains and nourishes the whole world.  For the honor of your name, save the honour of the Fakirs.  We are your Dervishes.  We are liars but we say your name.  Khuddah, you are the home of peace.  Keep our honours intact.”  He prayed to the Peer of Peers.  He went deep into his prayer.  The prayer was answered.  One Fakir lost his senses and went into a deep meditative trance.  Everyone was happy then.  The Fakir got up and danced around, waiving his head.  His foot slipped.  He fell and rolled into the oven.  When the Fakir’s body touched the oven, the oven cooled down.  Everyone was amazed to see this.  The Fakirs were innocent.  Their show was real.  Nauranga said: “go to your Dhera.  Nobody will stop you from now on.”  The Fakirs were allowed to leave.  They did the Simran of Khuddah and were happy.  The people of the city swore at Nauranga, seeing his tyranny: “the fool argues with Fakirs.” 

9-25 Baynava Fakir

Baynava Fakirs would go about insulting people who followed the Shariya.  They would scold the Maulanas for following the Shariya.  They made fun of the Maulanas and debate with them.  The Maulanas decided to tell Aurangzeb about the Baynava Fakirs.  Aurangzeb called all of the Baynava Fakirs to the court.  He had them come to his throne and said: “why do you not follow the Shariya?  You don’t speak to anyone with respect.  You laugh and insult others ideology.  You insult everyone.  What do think of yourselves?  Everyone follows the Shariya.  The Shariya will save you from Hell.  Let go of your own ways.  Follow the Shariya path.  Otherwise, you will go to Hell.  Only Shariya can save you form that.”  The Baynavas did not agree.  They said to the corrupt Nauranga: “your command doesn’t work on us.  We speak what we wish to.  We are not thieves, womanizers or robbers.  You should punish those people according to law.  We are Fakirs of the Dervish traditions.  We are not deserving of punishment.  We are separate from the world.  Why should we follow you?  Nobody has said anything to us before.  No king has called us before.  Don’t try to call us again.  We are fearless and are never scared of anyone.  We do as our elders did.  We follow their path.”  Nauranga heard this and got angry.  He had all the Fakirs boarded on a ship.  He wanted them to be drowned where the current was strong. 

The soldiers took the Fakirs and boarded them onto the ship.  As they boarded the ship, another Fakir came running and yelled: “I am Nauranga’s son-in-law.  Why are you leaving me?  Take me with the other sons-in-law.  His daughter will be a widow.”  Nauranga heard this and released the Fakirs.  He said: “these people are stubborn.  They speak nonsense.  How many will I kill?  They are not afraid to die.  They still swear without fear.  If they are killed, the remaining ones will cause more problems.  They are stubborn.  Let them go and don’t say anything to them.  They are stubborn fools.  They will come from other lands and cause problems.”  The Baynavas were all saved.  They were saved from death.  In this way, Aurangzeb argued with other Turks.  He was a big fool who was lost.

Aurangzeb then started to argue with Hindus.  He said: “they worship idols.  They are not wise.  They have many Mandirs in many places.  They have rock idols in their homes.  They give them sandalwood and flowers to worship them.  They bathe them with yoghourt.  They drink the water after washing them.  They give them fake food and eat it themselves.  They think they will go to Heaven.”  The Qazis told Aurangzeb to do something about the Hindus.  They said: “only you are the “Alamgir” (the Badshah of the world).  Many follow you.  You should make everyone walk the righteous Path.  Command everyone.  Let’s make the Shariya of the Deen grow.  Let’s convert the Kaphars.  You will be praised till the world lasts.  They will call you the “beloved of the Deen.”  You will be given many joys.  There has never been anyone like you in the Deen.  There has never been anyone like you, nor will there ever be anyone like you.  Whatever you wish to do, do it.  You have the Empire now.  You can do it.  Just as the deep water in the river exists, it looks for your command.  Wherever you go, nobody can stop you.  The greatest kings fall to your feet and give you gifts.  They obey your command.  There won’t be any enemies.  If someone fights you, they will be killed.  You won the big forts.  Your praises spread everywhere.  You have the country, the forts, the army, the money and the donors.  You are the greatest Badshah.  You have everything in your home.  No one is your equal.  The Prophet has blessed you.  He is happy with you.  For this reason, you will make the Deen spread in the world.  This is the work of the Prophet.  Do it as you please.  Why do you not want the praises?  The ones who read the Kalima and follow the Path, they will read the Quran and understand Khuddah.  The Hindus follow a backwards ideology.  They are in pain.  They will go to Hell and be punished on the Day of Judgement.  The Prophet will not approve of them.  Nobody will help them then.  Khuddah has made you great and able.  You command the whole world.  Dara Shikoh and your other brothers stayed in the company of the Kaphars.  He was slandered and his Empire was taken away from him.  You had him killed under the Shariya Law.  For this reason, you were praised in the world.  Nobody else can do this task.  You have to convert the whole world into Turks.  Guide them on the Path of the Shariya.  Tell the Hindus to convert first.  Bribe them with incentives.  Do what it takes so they follow the Shariya.  Give your sisters and daughters to them so they agree to convert.  The Prophet will be happy with you if the Hindus become Turks.  You are able to do this.  Make the Deen grow.  Stop them from worshiping idols.  Make them read the Kalima.  Close to us is a place called Mathura Puri.  The Hindus do really bad things there.  They say: “our elder, Krishan, came here.”  They say his Katha and talk about how he indulged with many women.  They follow that religion.  They get dressed and dance like they are Krishan and the Gopis.  They speak blasphemy.  We can’t tolerate it.  They dance and have fun.  They commit many sins which makes us upset.  They wish to go to Heaven.  They think they are right.  They make many idols of him in many ways.  They worship the idols, day and night.  They light Divas and give flowers to the idols.  They give sandalwood and play instruments.  The men and women dance.  They do bad things.  They have thousands of idols and Mandirs made for them.  They spent a lot of money on the Mandirs.  The Hindus follow these Mandirs.  They follow their religion in this way.  You should go and destroy the idols and Mandirs.  Destroy them all.  Make Mosques there.  Make them all fear you.  The ones who convert, give them joy.  The highest places of the Hindus, tear them down and build Mosques there.  Scare the Hindus and praise the Turks.  This will do your task with little effort.”  In this way, the Qazis convinced Aurangzeb.  The corrupt Nauranga was motivated to do more corruption.  He wished to make the Deen grow: “let’s go in the morning,” said Aurangzeb.
