6-56 Coming to Amritsar
When Diwali came, the wish to go back to Amritsar became deeper. Baba Bidhi Chand ji and Bhai Gurdas ji, along with other Sikhs, folded their hands and said: “Sri Guru ji, listen, everyone wishes to do Darshan of Amritsar. Sangat from every direction comes to Amritsar on Diwali. Diwali is coming and so we wish to go to Amritsar.” Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib ji heard this and said: “this is a good thing you said. We shall leave in the morning.” Everyone was happy to hear this. Everyone rested the night.
The next morning everyone woke up and got ready. Baba Bhanna ji folded his hands and said: “listen Prabhoo master. I wish to go with you. My father advised me to always stay near the great Guru. I don’t wish to leave you. Give me permission to stay with you.” Guru ji heard this and gave him hope: “Baba Bhudda ji has gone to Sach Khand just a few days ago. It is right for you to stay here and meet the Sangat who come to visit and pay their codependences. Stay here for some time and then you can come to me. You are going to stay with me then.” The Master then got on top of his horse and headed towards Sudhasur.
They all reached Amritsar by evening. It was about 50 km from Jhanday-Ramdas. The whole army came. A servant was sent to Amritsar ahead and told to make Karah Prashaad. The Sikh went and had Panchamrit prepared. Guru ji went to the well and washed his hands and feet. He then took a bath at the well. Guru ji then reached the edge of the Sarovar. He bowed to the Sarovar and bathed in it. He got dressed and bowed at Akaal Takhat. He did an Ardaas there first. The warriors and Guru ji’s personal servants and guards were with him. They then all went to the Darshani Deodi and bowed with their hands folded. Guru ji and the Sikhs took the Prashaad and went inside Harmandhir Sahib. They folded their hands and bowed after doing 4 Parkarmas. They sat inside and distributed the Karah Prashaad. They then came back to Akaal Takhat and had a Divaan. People came and did Darshan of Guru ji with eagerness. They brought gifts and money for Guru ji. They kept looking at Guru ji. The merchants closed their shops and came. They bowed to Guru ji with devotion. They said: “our Guru is the home of joy and peace. Just as Sri Ram ji was the master of Ayodhya, that is how Guru ji is to us.” This is what the people of Amritsar said. Guru ji came to his home at night. Everyone ate and went to sleep.
In the morning, Guru ji sent a messenger to Painday Khan: “tell him: Guru Sahib wants you to come to Amritsar before the Diwali Mela.” Another messenger was sent to Goindwal to call the whole family back. The two messengers set off in their respective directions. They took Guru ji’s messages to deliver them. The one messenger went to Mata Damodri ji and said: “Guru ji wants Baba Sundar ji to come as well as the whole family. Come to Amritsar. Guru ji is calling everyone.” Everyone was happy to hear the message. The whole family, along with Baba Sundar ji, got ready and headed to Amritsar.
Everyone arrived in Amritsar soon. They all came into their home. Baba Sundar ji came to Guru ji and grabbed his feet with devotion. Satguru ji asked him how he was and respected him a lot. Baba Sundar ji was respected by Guru ji as he was the grandson of Guru Amardas ji and his Bani was in Guru Granth Sahib ji. He had him seated next to him. Guru ji then went to his home and met the whole family. The Matas and sons were all happy to see Guru ji. Baba Gurditta ji bowed to his father along with Baba Sooraj Mal ji, Baba Anirai ji and Baba Atal Rai ji. Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib ji was young. Bibi Veero ji also came to see her father. She was carrying her brother, Guru Tegh Bahadur ji, in her lap. Guru ji met his daughter and picked up his youngest son. He gave him a lot of love. He met the whole family. Everyone was happy to see Guru ji. A lot of Sangat came to meet Guru ji, bringing many gifts.
Guru ji held a Divaan at Akaal Takhat. Many Sikhs came to see Guru ji. Painday Khan came from Kartarpur, bringing his wife. They both bowed to Guru ji. Guru ji asked how they were. He gave Painday Khan and his wife the home of Mata Kaulan ji. They lived there with bliss. They got a lot of things from the Guru’s home. The Mela became crowded. The Sangat bathed in the Sarovar to make their lives a success. They did Darshan of the Strong Guru. There was a huge crowd. The gifts began to pile up. Clothes, jewellery and weapons were brought. Unlimited money was piled up in front of Guru ji. They all gave their gifts and asked for joy and peace. Satguru ji gave joy to all. The Sangat then took leave after the Mela.
Guru ji spent the days with joy. Painday Khan stayed close to Guru ji. Guru ji asked Painday Khan: “the horse that I sent for you; how did you like it?” Painday Khan folded his hands and said: “you give me the best horses and weapons. You give me many types of gifts and joys. The horse is nothing in front of your joy. Maharaj, I heard you fought a bigger battle than before. You didn’t call your servant to battle. I was of no use to you this time like I was last time.” Guru ji heard this and said: “it was a small task. I didn’t wish to call you. The army from Jalandhar came all of a sudden though. 15,000 Turks came. They were close by and came quick. The Sikhs saw them and attacked them like a hungry hawk on partridges. The Sikhs made a great effort. It was like a lion taking down an elephant. The Sikhs were victorious and killed many. There were only 1,000 Turks left after the battle, who had to run away.” Painday Khan thought to himself: “Guru ji is the complete Purusha and warrior. He wanted to break my pride and that’s why he didn’t call me. He knew what I was thinking. He knew I became egotistical.” He regretted his previous thinking. He said: “you are great Guru ji. You can do as you wish. You are filled with many powers.” He said this many times to Guru ji. He realised he wasn’t able to serve Guru ji because of his ego. Painday Khan’s ego was broken. He would listen to the stories of the battle and realised that Guru ji did not like anyone’s ego.
Some months passed in this way. Guru ji was happy in Amritsar. Painday Khan had a daughter born to him. He gave Guru ji news of his daughter’s birth. Guru ji gave him hope and said: “raise her well. I see her as my own.” Painday Khan came home and became happy. He was happy as he would have been if he was born a son. After Painday Khan left, Guru ji laughed. Bhai Jetha ji saw Guru ji laugh and asked: “Guru ji, Painday Khan had a daughter. Why did you laugh after he left?” Guru ji said: “this daughter will be the cause of war. She is born in the house of a Turk. Because of her, many Turks will die. Seeing this interesting future, I laughed.” He gave Bhai Jetha ji a hint of the future. Bhai Jetha ji was surprised to hear this.
Some years passed in Amritsar with joy. Many Sikhs were blessed by Guru ji. With the Simran of Satnam, the bad wisdom of the people was washed away. One day, Mata Damodri ji came to Guru ji. She folded her hands and said: “please bless our home with a grandson. Bless me with your divine vision. I wish to see a grandson. Please fulfill my wish.” Guru ji heard this and gave a blessing: “you will have 2 grandsons. Understand this in your heart; the words of Pithaji are never empty. Guru Arjan Dev ji said that “the vail will grow and the generation will go on and spread.” Sri Gurditta ji will have 2 sons in some time. Your wish will be fulfilled. You will be happy seeing your grandsons.”
6-57 Dheermal is born/ Baba Atal Rai plays
Satguru ji called his eldest son to him and had him sit next to him one day. He had become big and strong He was 6 feet tall and very handsome. Guru ji gave him a command: “Sri Kartarpur is our place. My father loved that place. He had established the city. I haven’t gone there for a long time. Many Sikhs live there. The Sangat of Doaba come to Tham Sahib to visit. They come there on special days, bringing many gifts. Their wishes are fulfilled. Go with your wife and settle there. I will come see you there sometimes and sometimes you can come to Amritsar to see us.” Baba Gurditta ji heard this and obeyed. He happily told his mother the command from his father. The servants made the preparations.
Baba Gurditta ji bowed to the Matas. Mata Damodri ji met her son and daughter-in-law. She put her hand on their heads and gave them good wisdom. She didn’t want to let them go and neither did Baba Gurditta ji want to go; but they were obeying Guru ji’s command. Baba Gurditta ji went to Harmandhir Sahib and bowed. He then bowed to his father at Akaal Takhat and started off to Sri Kartarpur with a few warriors and his wife.
On the way, Baba Gurditta ji rested a night. He reached the next day in Kartarpur, Jalandhar (not to be confused with the Kartarpur near the Ravi). The Mela of Vaisakhi came. A Mela was held at Gangsar Sahib. The Sangat of Doaba all came to bathe there. Babaji obeyed his father and celebrated Vaisakhi there. He lived in the house there.
It was 1683 (Vikram), 13th of Maagh, Saturday; Mata Natti ji gave birth to a son, the eldest son of Baba Gurditta ji. Everyone was happy to see the eldest grandson of Guru Hargobind Sahib ji. A lot of donations were given. When the beggars found out, they all came. Baba Gurditta ji gave everyone donations. He gave a lot of money. He sent a Sevadaar to Amritsar to inform Guru ji.
The messenger reached Amritsar and told Guru ji about his grandson’s birth. Guru ji celebrated in Amritsar. Mata Damodri ji had become a grandmother. Guru Hargobind Sahib ji laughed and said: “my Thaya has come back.” Nobody understood that, but Guru ji was referring to Baba Prithi Chand. The eldest grandson was Baba Dheermal. A lot of donations were given. Mata Damodri ji gave a lot of donations. Great celebrations occurred. The whole family was happy. Many Sikhs came to bring their gifts. Their wishes were all fulfilled. The special days were all celebrated. Sangat from every direction came.
The 4 other Sahibzadas of Guru Hargobind Sahib ji were in Amritsar with Guru ji. They played and grew up to be radiant, tall and strong young boys. They would play and come to their father. They played with their friends in the streets of Amritsar. People would see them and bow to them. They would wear golden jewellery. Servants would be with them wherever they would go. They were young still so the servants kept an eye on them. The merchants’ children would come and play with the Sahibzadas.
Baba Atal Rai ji was 9 years old now. He would spend his time playing and enjoying himself on the streets of Amritsar. He was always radiant and happy. The Jot of the Nirankaar illuminated within him. People would be able to see this. Many great Tapasvis did Tapasya to become sons of the Parmeshwar Avatar and receive Mukti. Baba Atal Rai ji was such a Brahmgyaani soul. Whatever came from his mouth, became true. If he was happy and said something, it would become true right away. The Sangat knew this. They would be afraid of him and respect him. They didn’t want to upset him, receiving a curse by accident. Baba Atal Rai ji would play and eat as he wished. Everyone one kept him happy and didn’t do anything to upset him. They all knew about his radiant form. He would wear beautiful clothes and golden jewellery. He was eager to play. He rode horses and practiced Gatka. Sikhs would come to him for wishes. They would walk with him to get him to say something good. The Sikhs would do his Seva to make him happy. They would bring him delicious foods to eat. They would fold their hands and give him the food. When he would be happy, they would tell him their wishes. Whatever he would say would become true. Nobody else would say these things. The other sons had the same power but they wouldn’t show their powers, in fear of their father. They would do their Bhagti in solitude. Baba Atal Rai ji would show his powers. The other sons would obey their father and stay in his will. Baba Atal Rai ji wouldn’t show restrain while saying something. If he was happy with someone’s Seva, he would bless them. Guru ji saw this but didn’t say anything. He knew that Baba Atal Rai ji had these powers. He didn’t do it to show his powers but he was a very generous personality. He did it to make others peaceful. Guru ji saw his good will but still did not like what he did. This wasn’t going to be good in the long run. Baba Atal Rai ji got really famous. The people talked about his powers that his words were powerful.
The Sangat for other lands would come to Amritsar. Baba Atal Rai ji’s praises spread everywhere. Everyone would say: “he has the Jot of Parmeshwar in him. He fulfills everyone’s wishes.” The Sangat would go to Guru ji and then go to where Baba Atal Rai ji was. They would give him clothes, jewellery and food. Baba Atal Rai ji would bless the people. Guru ji would speak to Baba Atal Rai ji, one-on-one about giving the blessings openly: “use your powers with discretion. Your personality is a generous one.” He would give Sikhs blessings. He would stop himself, being afraid of his father but then feel sorry for the painful and bless them anyways.
There was a Soini Khatri who was a merchant in Amritsar. He was rich. His name was Bhai Gurmukh ji. He had a handsome boy named “Bhai Mohan.” He was 9 years old and played with Baba Atal Rai ji everyday. He would play with the other brothers as well. They would play all day long. He would go home at night to sleep. Many other rich-family children would play with the Sahibzadas. They would play with joy. One day, Bhai Mohan ji was playing the “Khido Khundi” game with Baba Atal Rai ji and the other children. They played with the ball. They pushed the ball and ran. Bhai Mohan was playing. Baba Atal Rai ji played. Some would win and some would lose. They would argue as children would do. It was soon dark and they all got tired. They were about to go to their homes. Baba Atal Rai ji said to Bhai Mohan: “it’s dark now. We can’t play anymore. I won today. Everyone saw this. The bet that you wagered, I won it. You have to start the next play now. Let’s go home and continue tomorrow morning. Remember this.” Bhai Mohan said: “that’s fine. I will take the turn and win tomorrow.” He went to his home as well. They all went to asleep at night.
Bhai Mohan ji was bit by a snake. The family tried to save him, but he died by morning. He was his parents’ only child. The parents began to cry and said: “oh son where did you go? You left us. What will we do? We lived to see your beautiful face. I have been punished for bad karma.” They cried out loud. The neighbours all gathered. They would beat their chests and cry. They all mourned the death of the child. The neighbours said: “this is a big pain. Your only child was killed by a snake.” The news spread in Amritsar about Bhai Gurmukh’s child. Whoever heard this was in shock. He only had one child and he died. Every house found out about this.
6-58 Sri Atal Rai ji Resurrects Mohan
In the morning, Baba Atal Rai ji woke up and did his daily routine. He left his home to play. He went to the playground where he would play with his friend. The sevadaars and friends were all there. Baba Ji was happy to see his friends. The game that ended the night before, he remembered that Bhai Mohan was supposed to go next. He said: “why hasn’t Mohan come yet? It’s his turn. Looks like he avoided coming today.” Baba ji said to his Sevadaar: “go to Mohan’s home and tell him to come. He has to go next.” The Sevadaar went to Mohan’s home and saw everyone crying. He saw Bhai Mohan ji dead. The whole family was crying. He saw the family crying and beating their heads. He noticed the tragedy and came back to Bab Atal Rai ji. He told him: “Mohan died. He was bit by a snake.” When Baba Atal Rai ji heard this, he felt pain. He took all the other kids and went to Mohan’s home.
Baba Atal Rai ji was eager to see Bhai Mohan. He ran inside his home, where the body of Bhai Mohan was. He had heard the crying from a distance. He met the whole family and the neighbours. They all noticed the son of Guru Hargobind ji coming inside. They all folded their hands and said: “welcome, son of the Guru. Your friend has died. A black cobra bit him. We didn’t get a chance to save him. We are going to cremate him. He will never play with you again. You are the son of the Guru; you can do as you please. You have all the powers.” The parents of Mohan spoke to Baba Atal Rai ji. Everyone stood there with their hands folded. Baba Atal Rai ji heard this and said: “it was Mohan’s turn to play next. He has a debt on his head.” Baba ji had the Khundi in his hand. He looked and Mohan’s face. He laid there, dead, lifeless and cold. Baba Atal Rai ji put the Khundi around Bhai Mohan’s neck and said: “get up my beloved one! Give us your service in play. It’s your turn. It’s not the time to sleep now. Look how deeply you’re sleeping.” He pulled the Khundi. Bhai Mohan sat up and opened his eyes. The people that were crying, stopped and were amazed. They all jumped up in joy and said: “great is the Guru and great are his children. They give life back to the lifeless.” The crying quickly turned into shouts of joy. Happiness spread along with the praises of Baba Atal Raj ji. They all shouted Jaikaras in Baba Atal Rai ji’s name. They all said: “he resurrected the rich merchant’s son. He put a Khundi around his neck and made him alive again.”
The Mothers all found out that their son had made a dead child alive again. The news spread to everyone. Sri Guru Hargobind ji was sitting at Akaal Takhat with the Sikhs. He was speaking to the Sikhs with joy. The Sangat was sitting with Guru ji. A Sikh came to Guru ji and said: “your son, Baba Atal Rai ji has been praised. Bhai Gurmukh Khatri’s son, his only son, used to play with Baba Ji. He was bit by a snake and died. Baba Atal Rai ji went to his home and saw his dead friend’s body. He used his Khundi and said: “get up and take your turn.” He woke him up.” Guru ji heard this and was surprised. Guru ji stayed quiet for a long time. After a while he got really angry and thought to himself: “what is this that he has done? He did it in front of me. The kingdom of the sinners is radiant right now. If the Badshah or his son dies, they will bring them here and tell us to make him alive again. They will try to be humble and ask; or they will try to show their power and get us to forcefully resurrect their people. They will all line up here. They will want us to make their dead, alive again. This is like trying to become Prabhoo’s relative. The Parmeshwar gives the results of Karma. If Prabhoo punishes someone, we would resurrect the person and erase the punishment. This is not a good thing. One should not be alive after being dead. I won’t ever do this. I should give my life in return.” In this way, Guru ji thought about the next steps. He was angry at Baba Atal Rai ji. He didn’t speak to anyone or look at anyone. The Sikhs were scared. They noticed that Guru ji was angry. Guru ji was not pleased at all. He continued thinking: “if I let my son’s actions go due to love, he won’t stop. He will continue resurrecting people. People won’t stop. This will mess up the dimensions. There is no praise in this.” Guru ji sat there for an hour and a half. Nobody had the nerve to speak with Guru ji.
Baba Atal Rai ji came to Guru ji, playing. His jewellery was clanking as he walked. He had his Khundi in his hand. There was dust on his clothes from playing. Guru ji was not happy. He was angry. Baba Atal Rai ji bowed. Guru ji said to Baba Atal Rai ji: “you showed your powers to everyone? You can’t control your powers? You keep showing everyone your powers. Miracles are the road to tribulation. You do the miracles without thinking about them. Now, the result will have to be: either you can remain alive or I can remain alive. If you stay, I must go. If I stay, you must go. This is the truth.” Baba Atal Rai ji heard the Guru’s words and accepted them in his heart. He stood there with his hands folded. He bowed his head to Guru ji’s feet. He backed away by not turning around. He didn’t show his back to Guru ji, his father, as he left. He kept looking at his father as he walked backwards. He didn’t go to his home. He didn’t speak to anyone nor did he listen to anyone else. He stayed quiet and went to the Kaulsar Sarovar. He bathed in Kaulsar and recited Japji Sahib. After reciting the Paath, he laid a sheet out. He laid down, making the Khundi as a pillow. He took a sheet on top of his body and left his body. It was like a generous person leaving a big home as if it was a straw hut. Baba Atal Rai ji went to Sach Khand to Guru Nanak Dev ji. He went to the realm where there were no desires, ego or anger. He was One with the ultimate status, the “Uttampadh.” Jogis wish for this status for thousands of years. The Sevadaars kept staring and didn’t even know when Baba ji left his body. When they figured out that he wasn’t breathing or moving, they were shocked.
The Sevadaars ran to Guru ji and said: “he is lying down near Kaulsar! He left his body in an instant!” Gareeb Nivaaj heard this and got up right away. He went will all the Sikhs to Kaulsar. The Mothers all heard the news and began to cry right away. Mata Nanaki ji yelled out: “what did you do, my Avatar son? You are able to resurrect the dead, why did you leave? You obeyed your father. Where did you go?” The whole family ran to Kaulsar Sahib. Everyone cried. Mata Nanaki ji’s parents: Baba Hari Chand ji and Mata Hardai ji were there. They were crying. Every child in Amritsar was crying. They all saw Baba Atal Rai ji’s lifeless body. Everyone cried. Guru ji said to all: “don’t cry. He was a great being. This was as much time as he had. This is how he was supposed to go. The time can’t be controlled.” Guru ji called for sandalwood. Guru ji had Baba Atal Rai ji’s body cremated there.
Baba Atal Rai ji obeyed his father. Guru ji gave him many boons: “Amritsar will be a great city. My son’s symbol will be the highest. The Harmandhir will be worshiped and so will the Tower of my son. Every man and woman will have devotion in my son. Their wishes will be fulfilled. There will be golden Mandirs and the highest in Amritsar. You will be praised more now than you were when you were alive. Nobody will be more illuminated than you. He will be the Sooba of Amritsar. Nobody will be more radiant than you.” (The tower of Baba Atal Rai is 9 stories, for his 9 years of life, built by the Misl Sardars). Baba Bidhi Chand ji said: “this is the only empty space I see. There is no other place like this one.” Sri Guru ji heard this and said: “this place will be hard to occupy. Many saints and great beings will be cremated here. This will be the final resting place for many. Whoever will be cremated here, Baba Atal Rai ji will be by their side.” In this way, Guru ji gave many boons to Baba Atal Rai ji. The traditions were carried out. The Rababis sang Shabads. It was Assu, Vaddi 10th, 1685 (Vikram), when Baba Atal Rai ji left his body. His praises are spread in the world.
6-59 Mourning
Satguru ji took a bath after the cremation. He sat and had a Divaan. Everyone was shocked. They said: “what just happened? That was a tragedy.” Everyone in Amritsar came. They were in mourning. They said to Guru ji: “this was very tragic. What just happened? He was still a child. He had a lot of powers. He gave peace to everyone. Everyone was happy to see him. He played and walked with all the other children. The kids did not like to leave him.” In this way people spoke to Guru ji. Guru Hargobind Sahib ji would give wisdom to all in the best way: “the ways of the Prabhoo are unknown to all. The whole Trilok is under the Parmatma. Child, adult or elder, this is not seen when the time comes. Strong or weak is not considered either. They are all the same. The destiny cannot be erased. The way of the Prabhoo is unique. Prabhoo is not attached or detached to anyone. Prabhoo is above hate and attachment. The saints don’t hate or love anyone. They are never in jealousy or hatred. The Brahmgyaani does not mourn the loss. What is going to happen; cannot be changed by wisdom or strength.”
Mata Nanaki ji was in pain the most. Her beloved son died. She cried, hearing his praises. She would see him everyday and loved him; he was no longer there. She was the mother of Baba Ani Rai ji, Baba Atal Rai ji and Guru Tegh Bahadhur ji. She would cry, thinking of Baba Atal Rai ji. When the women would come to pay their condolences, she would cry. Mata Damodri ji and the other women would console her but she was very upset. When Guru ji found out that Mata Nanaki ji was very upset, he came to her and said: “the one who accepts the will can only be happy. You are wise. Don’t be upset. This is what was supposed to happy. Don’t regret or be in pain. Your son’s glory was big but his glory will grow exponentially by the day now. Atal Rai will be everlasting. He will be bigger now.” Guru ji consoled his wife. Guru ji sent messages to all the relatives.
The family of Guru Angad Dev ji, the Trehans, came with all the men and the women. The family in Goindwal all came. Baba Narayan Das ji, Mata Damodri ji’s father, came with his wife. Baba Duara ji, Mata Mahadevi ji’s father, came with his wife. Bibi Ramo ji and Bhai Sai Das ji came. Bhai Rama ji, the father-in-law of Baba Gurditta ji, came with his wife. Any Sangat that heard the bad news, all came to Amritsar. When Baba Gurditta ji heard the news, he was in mourning and came from Kartarpur, along with Mata Natti ji and Baba Dheermal (who was 6 months old). Everyone was sad. Everyone mourned. The women of the city mourned. They saw Baba Atal Rai ji as a very strong and powerful saint: “he was so strong. Who knows who powerful he would have been.” There was depression everywhere. Guru ji sent Bhai Gurdas ji. Bhai Gurdas ji gave hope to all: “don’t cry. Don’t by in pain. This world is a farm of the Prabhoo. The farmer cuts the raw or the ripe; it’s up to the Prabhoo. He cuts who he wishes. There is no point in mourning that which is destined to die. Everyone leaves when it’s their time to go. Everyone goes. No one stays. Don’t mourn in the house of the Guru. Don’t mourn for too long. So what if he left his body? He will be immortal by the words of the Guru. His name will live on forever. He will be glorious forever. Baba Atal Rai ji is forever.” Bhai Gurdas ji spoke to all with love and gave them hope.
After 13 days, Panchamrit was made and distributed. The Sahib Paath of Guru Granth Sahib ji was completed. The Rababis sang Shabads. Expensive clothes were made and given to the reciters of Gurbani and Keertanis. Guru ji did the final Ardaas for his son. The Karah Prashaad was distributed as per the tradition of the Guru’s home. Everyone was given leave the next day, who had come to pay their condolences. Baba Narayan Das ji and his wife went back to Dhalla village. He praised Baba Atal Rai ji to his fellow villagers. Baba Duara ji went back. The Bhallas and the Trehans went back. Bhai Rama ji and his wife went back to Vatala. Everyone went back to their homes and told everyone the Katha of Baba Atal Rai ji: “look how powerful he was. He made his friend alive again. He left his own body at the command of his Guru. When he saw his father upset, he left his body. Such a great being is rare. He was young and yet so powerful.” The Sikhs went back to their villages and praised Baba Atal Rai ji. They said: “the throne of Guru Nanak Dev ji is the highest and most powerful. There is nothing compared to it. Many servants of the Guru are extremely powerful. Lakhs of Bhagats received Brahmgyaan. They achieved the “Parampadh.” The servants of the servants; and even their servants, have been great. They are powerful too. There is nothing shocking about the son of the Guru being so powerful. The Guru fought a big battle with Shah Jahan, the master of the land, and defeated him. Who would dare take enmity with Guru Hargobind Sahib ji who has defeated great kings? The 5 Gurus were in the Peeree form. Now, Guru ji has Meeree as well. No Peer can face the Guru. No king can face the Guru. The Kings fear the Guru. The best thing to do is to only bow in front of the Guru.” Everyone praised the Guru.
Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib ji was handsome like the moon. He sat at the great Akaal Takhat. His family was big. He had sons and grandson. He had many relatives. He gave peace to all. He lived casually amongst everyone. He was detached to everything and everyone; just as the lotus lives in the water but does not get wet. Happiness and sorrow would come in the home; the family had ups and downs; joy and pain came; Guru ji would love and be detached at the same time. The one that lives in the family is entrapped in joy and sorrow; love and hate. Vices arise from this attachment. The whole world is stuck in this trap. The root of all this is the ego of the body; the pride of one’s body. Attachment arises from this ego as one wishes to gather things for it. From this, many things are born such as love, hatred and jealousy. Ego and attachment do not come near Guru ji in past, present or future. Because there is no cause, the effect does not happen. Guru ji does not have the ego or attachment. The type of seed you sow, that plant will grow. The land that has no seed, what can grow from there? Guru ji was always in a single state. He never came out of this Samadhi. He lived in this state, all day and night. It was like he lived in water but never got his clothes wet. If a person lives in a room of soot, and does not get dirty, that is how Guru ji was. He lived in a household, which had many causes for joy and sorrow; but Guru ji was not affected by anything. There was no one else like him. Whoever he blessed and gave wisdom to, they would be able to understand the world. The best thing to do is to live in the shelter of the Guru with faith and devotion. When the compassionate One blesses you and looks at you; the vices in your mind will all die. He would give the Gyaan of Bhagti which gives Mukti. The Guru saved billions. May the Guru be with all of us. Whoever listens to this Katha with faith and devotion, they will be taken out of the cycle of birth and death. Their problems will be gone. Whatever wisdom the Guru gives, this is a blessing in Kaliyuga. Do the Simran of Satnam, day and night. They will be in peace. Their mind will by calm as well as their body. That person will receive the Sikhi status. They will achieve the great status of Mukti.
Thus ends the 6th Raas.
