6-41 Abdul Khan Sends the Charge

The nagaras and instruments played.  The warriors were fighting.  The fierce warriors cut the others.  Their swords swung fast.  Nobody stopped.  The arrows and bullets flew.  It was like they were playing Holi.  It was like they threw fists full of Gulaal on each other.  The bullets pierced the bodies.  It was like the riffles were sprayers, throwing colour.  The “patangi” wood, that has red colour, seems to be used.  The shields looked like tambourines.  The yelling was like the songs of Holi.  The warriors ran and swung their swords.  The hands, heads and limbs were cut.  The men of Abdul Khan tried to make the Navaab happy.  They did not back down.  They fought with bravery.  The Sikhs charged and fought hard.  There was a lot of noise.  The instruments played.  The warriors stopped the strikes and swung themselves.  Many fell.

Baba Bidhi Chand ji was fighting with anger.  He was able to dodge strikes.  He released many arrows like cobras.  Many warriors were killed by Baba ji’s arrows.  Many fell face first.  Where they were hit, the blood sprouted out like fountains.  Many saw this and began to tremble in fear.  The Sikhs fought with anger.  They sliced many limbs with their strength.  Many got killed and slept the great sleep.  Many legs were cut.  Some fought with one leg.  Some were stabbed in the belly.  Some were shot in the heart.  Some had hands and arms cut.  Some had their heads cut.  The Khandas cut as much as they wanted to.  The Faulaad Khandas swung.  Whoever they sliced; they were cut.  Many headless bodies were on the field.  Many limbs were cut.  Piles of bodies were on the ground.  The proud warriors with strong arms, swung Sirohis, Halabhis and Janabhis.  The Tulwars swung and made a scary scene.  The Sikhs fought with bravery.  They stopped the charge of the Malesh.  It was a fierce battle.  The blood made mud on the ground.  One Sikh killed 10 Turks and attained martyrdom.  Many were still alive.  They got Guru ji’s power to fight so much.

When Abdul Khan came onto the field, Guru ji was filled with Bir Ras.  Guru ji, with red eyes, took the Khapra arrow and mounted it on his bow.  He pulled it to his ear.  Guru ji released the arrow.  It made swishing noises as it flew.  It pierced many chests and went through.  It went through other limbs.  It killed the fourth and then the fifth.  It killed a sixth.  Guru ji released another arrow and killed 6.  Guru ji released many arrows like this.  Many Turks fell to the ground.  Guru ji now killed 10 with each arrow.  He emptied many quivers.  The arrows were really fast.  Guru ji made his horse run.  Bullets fired and arrows were released.  The warriors were injured.  Their clothes were red.  They looked like they were in the garden with red flowers.  Kavi Santok Singh ji said: “how do I write about this?  This was a great battle.  Bullets were fired and then arrows were released.  The Turks did not know what was happening.”  Bullets were fired.  The warriors fell to sleep.  Guru ji released many arrows and killed many Turks.  Sailas and spears were used.  Many Turks were killed.  The swords were swung.  Many were cut in a few moments.  The ground was red.  The battle was wide.  The Kaljognis ate flesh and drank the blood.  They were satiated and happy.  The vultures and crows shrieked and ate flesh as much as they wanted to.  The vultures came and shrieked as they ate.  The Bhoots and Prayts sang and danced.  They laughed and ate.  They were happy with Guru ji for feeding them.  The witches and ghosts came to eat.  They ate a lot of flesh with joy.  There were bodies and heads everywhere.  The warriors were in pieces.  Many bows, spears and swords were on the field.  They were very expensive.  The horses were dead on the field.  The warriors that used those weapons had died.  Some warriors remained from both sides.  Many bodies and horses laid dead.  Some were still suffering while dying.  They were waiting for death.  Some horses had golden saddles.  Some horses lost their riders.  Many warriors were injured and laid on the ground.  The horse trampled them.  Nobody was there to save them.  Many died.  Some survived.  The battle was fierce.  Thousands of Turks died.

The remaining Turks had no hope of survival.  The cowards ran and the brave fought.  Abdul Khan was surprised to see the state his army was in: “how did the Guru kill so many of my men?”  He had no hope of victory or staying alive.  He knew he was going to die: “I will fight and die now.  I will either kill the Guru and avenge my sons’ deaths or I will die.  I will go and fight the Guru.  I have heard he is a great warrior.  I will fight the Guru myself. I can’t do anything besides fighting.  I will die by the Guru’s hand or I will kill him and win.”  In this way, Abdul Khan was upset.  He went to go an die.  He took Karam Chan and Rattan Chand with him.  They were on his either side.  They went to where Guru ji was.  He was ready to die.  Baba Bidhi Chand ji and the other Sikhs were fighting.  Abdul Khan avoided the Sikhs and went straight to Guru ji.  He went there with a focused determination.  He wanted to see the Guru.  He wanted to kill him or be killed by him.  He wanted to show his strength and see how strong Guru ji was.  I wanted to finish the war.  Guru ji was near the shore of the Beas.  Guru ji saw Abdul Khan, Abdul Khan saw Guru ji.  Both wanted to fight each other.

6-42 The Sooba and the Khatris Challenge Guru ji

After having many of his men killed, the Navaab came in front of Guru ji.  He looked at Guru ji with great focus.  Both saw each other.  The Navaab saw the radiant form of Guru ji.  He saw Guru ji’s sword, bow and quiver.  He looked like a lion.  He was very radiant.  Abdul Khan saw Guru ji for the first time.  He thought: “how am I going to kill him?”  He thought of many strategies to fight.  He made his horse dance, that was wearing metal chainmail.  He wanted to cross all of the Sikhs to get closer.  He released many arrows.  He was wearing golden jewellery with precious gems.  His horse was strong, that did not stay still.  The 2 Khatris came as well on strong steeds.  They got jealous when the saw Satguru ji.  Satguru ji saw them and roared: “now is the time to take your revenge for your fathers.  Why do you hide like cowards?  You don’t come in front.  You started this fight and now you hide.  It is easy to speak in the court.  It’s hard to fight.  You said you will kill the Guru in the court and sounded like you were strong.  Damned are you, that you can’t do what you said.  You don’t even come in front of me now.”  The Khatris got angry when they heard this.  Their eyes went red.  They looked at Guru ji along with the Navaab.  They made their horses run fast and came close to Guru ji.  They released many arrows.  All three fought the people on the way.  They released arrows towards Guru ji.  Guru Hargobind ji made his horse move and deflected the arrows.  He saved himself.  He took his 9 Tonka bow and mounted it with a Khapra arrow.  He pulled it to his ear and released.  It flew like a cobra.  He aimed at Rattan Chand.  Rattan Chand saw it coming and made his horse jump.  The arrow hit the chest of the horse and went out the other end.  The horse fell down and died.  Abdul Khan was impressed at how Guru ji did that.  He thought to himself: “that was awesome!  I can’t do that.  He made the arrow go out the other end.”  Rattan Chand jumped off his horse.  Karam Chand released an arrow which hit Guru ji’s horse in the neck.  It didn’t go deep so Guru ji took the arrow out of his horse’s neck and threw it.  It was a strong steed so it was not affected.  Guru ji made his horse move around.  There was a lot of blood that came out of the horse’s neck but it got up and got ready to fight.  Guru ji was mad when he saw his horse injured.  Guru ji hung his bow and took out his big Tegha.  He made his horse run and went to Karam Chand.  Karam Chand saw Guru ji’s ferocious and big form.  He got scared.  He lost his will to live.  He took out his shield and moved his horse.  He took out his sword.  Guru ji surrounded Karam Chand and moved around him.  Karam Chand knew his death was near.  Rattan Chand and the Navaab were watching.  Guru ji took Karam Chand away from the other two.  Guru ji swung his sword with great strength.  Karam Chand put up his shield and moved back.  Guru ji sliced Karam Chand’s horse’s head off.  Karam Chand got off his dead horse.  Rattan Chand and Karam Chand were both on foot now.  The Navaab came near.  All 3 released arrows.  Guru ji’s horse was hit with many arrows at once.  His whole body was filled with arrows.  Guru ji was angry and looked at Abdul Khan.  He released an arrow and hit Abdul Khan’s horse in its forehead.  The Strong Navaab got off his horse, saving himself.  All 3 were angry.  They all lost their horses.  They all released arrows and hit Guru ji’s horse.  Guru ji’s horse died and fell.  The horse went to heaven.  The horse had done Bhagti for many lives and was fortunate.  Guru ji, the strong warrior was on the ground.  He was filled with Bir Ras.  It looked like he could have burned the whole world.  It was like Rudra that was about to dance the Tandav.

Baba Bidhi Chand ji and other Sikhs were fighting the Turks.  Nobody knew that Guru ji’s horse had died.  They were busy fighting elsewhere.  It was the time for Rehraas.   Many warriors had died.  Guru ji was about to face the Navaab and the Khatris.  The 3 wanted to kill Guru ji before dark.  Guru ji decided to kill the 3 before dark.  He wanted to sleep worry-free.  He wanted to sleep in peace.  The leaders were fighting.  The swords were hitting the shields.  The generals were fighting together.  The battle was fierce.  The Navaab and the Khatris said to themselves: “we shouldn’t wait now.  The Guru is alone.  We are 3.  We should kill him now.  We should go close and kill him with the sword.  Cut him to pieces.  Otherwise we should arrest him.  Then we will succeed.”  Rattan Chand said this.  Abdul Khan advanced with the 2 Khatris.  They had their shields with them.  They came close to Guru ji and challenged him: “you killed many of the warriors of the Turk army.  You first took the Baaz of the Emperor.  You didn’t fear him.  You are still fearless and did what you did.  You didn’t understand our power.  You killed many of our soldiers.  Now we will kill you and avenge my sons and my men.  I will sleep worry-free.”  The True Guru heard this and said: “you fools!  What are you saying?  You are here to avenge the dead?  All of you will die now.  Who will avenge your deaths?  Sons avenge your death.  They are already dead.  The ones who have died, the door is still open.  I will send you there.  I am here to pull the roots of the Turk.  I came on to the Earth for this reason.  I am the all-powerful.  I will fight all three of you.  Fight and die like warriors.  Don’t be scared.  This is just the beginning.  There will be many battles.  My Sikhs will slowly grow in the word.  My Sikhs will be strong.  They will fight many wars with the Turks and take their kingdom.  What Baaz are you talking about?  You keep talking about that.”  Karam Chand came to the front to show the Navaab.  He took his sword and shield and jumped.  He said to Guru ji: “attention!  I am here to kill you.  I will avenge the death of my father.  I am the son of Chandoo.  I will kill you now.  I got the chance now.  This time will not come again.  I was waiting for this.”  He jumped in front of Guru ji.

6-43 Abdul Khan and Others die/ The Battle is Won

When Chandoo’s son came in front of Guru ji, the Sooba and Rattan Chand came behind him.  Karam Chand swung his sword from the top with force.  Guru ji stopped the strike with his 25 Ser shield.  The sword hit the boss of the shield and caused many sparks.  Karam Chand swung again.  Guru ji took his shield and hit Karam Chand in the face.  Karam Chand fell unconscious onto the ground.  Rattan Chand attacked Guru ji like an acrobat.  Guru ji went to the left and Rattan Chand missed.  He jumped to strike again.  Guru ji moved his Khanda and took out his pistol from his Kumerkassa.  He shot Rattan Chand as he was in the middle of his jump.  The pistol was from a foreign land.  It was a lethal shot.  The bullet hit Rattan Chand in the chest.  He froze in the air and felt to the ground.  His mouth remained open.  Blood sprouted from his chest.  He died.  Abdul Khan was angry.  He was alone.  He got angry.  He knew Guru ji was a great warrior.  He challenged Guru ji: “stay there.  Don’t hide.”  Guru ji hung his shield and took out his sword.  He changed his stance and looked at Abdul Khan in the eyes.  Guru ji crouched and moved around.  Sometimes he would be at an angle and sometimes straight.  This was known as “Pattaybaazi.”  They both fought each other.  Abdul Khan was skilled as well.  He changed his stances and struck.  Guru ji did the same.  Both wanted to catch a strike and wanted to win.  Both were the leaders of their armies.  Both were masters in the skill.  Both were in Bir Ras.  They both dropped their shields.  They only fought with swords.  They were both strong.  They didn’t learn how to back down.  Both were tall and strong.  Both wanted to kill.  Both enjoyed the battle.  Their faces were red.  They moved back and forth.  Guru ji was fighting.  The Devatas found out and wanted to see Guru ji fight.  The Devatas came into the sky to watch Guru ji fight.  They showered flowers on to the form of Parmeshwar.

Both warriors were filled with Bir Ras.  They would strike each other and block the strikes.  They went left and right.  Abdul Khan swung his sword hard and Guru ji blocked it with his sword.  Abdul Khan moved back, knowing his strike failed.  Guru ji swung his sword from the top.  He roared and fake-signalled towards the Khan’s legs.  The Khan thought Guru ji was aiming for his leg.  He put his sword down to protect his leg.  The fool miscalculated and Guru ji struck the Khan in the neck.  The Navaab lost his head.  The head fell to the ground.  It was a very clean and sharp strike.  It was like a potter cutting the pot with a wire; like a soap bar being cut by a wire.  It was like a ripe fruit pulled by the wind.  Abdul Khan’s eyes remained open as his head fell.  It was like a lightening strike that destroyed a tower; like a building fallen by an earthquake.  Guru ji noticed that the Navaab died.  The dark fell.  Guru ji stood by the Navaab’s body and thought to himself: “now the sinner is laying dead on the ground.  The fool was filled with pride.  Nobody told him not to be enemies with saints.  The Satguru is always gong to win.”

Guru ji sounded the Jaikara.  The Jaikara echoed in the whole world and into the other dimensions for the Devatas to hear.  Karam Chand woke up when he heard the Jaikara.  He knew that the Navaab had died.  He thought to himself: “I will be caught and killed.  I have an arrow.  I should kill the Guru now.  He is tired.  I will kill him and be praised.  I will tell the Shah.”  He got up and challenged Guru ji: “stay there.  You killed the Navaab.  You will be punished for this.  I will send you to the Jumms.  I am the son of Chandoo, who you tortured and killed.”  Guru ji looked at Karam Chand with anger and said: “you are still alive?  Why haven’t you gone with your companions?  They are waiting for you.  Don’t make them wait.  Come close.  I will send them to you.  Otherwise you will go alone.”  Karam Chand jumped with a sword.  It was like a moth flying onto a lamp about to be burnt.  He came close and Guru ji said: “attention.  Strike first.  I will give you chance.  Otherwise you will regret it.”  Karam Chand struck from the top.  Guru ji saw the strike and stopped the strike with the false blade part of his sword.  Guru ji struck and both swords broke.  The hilts remained in their hands.  Guru ji thought to himself: “how should I kill him now?  If I stab him with a Kataar, he will be killed with a Shaster.  I shouldn’t kill him like that.  I should kill him with my slaps.  He is without weapons anyways.  It is not right to kill a defenseless person.”  Guru ji grabbed Karam Chand’s right arm.  Karam Chand tried to escape but he couldn’t.  It was like a rabbit being trapped by an elephant.  He tried but failed.  He punched Guru ji with his other hand but it was of no effect.  It was like a deer punching a lion.  Guru ji took him to the right and picked him up.  Guru ji spun him hard.  Karam Chand got dizzy.  Guru ji slammed Karam Chand, head-first into the ground.  Karam Chand’s head burst like a watermelon falling to the ground.  He fell so hard that all of his joints opened and all of his bones broke.  In this way, everyone died.

It was dark and no one was fighting.  The remaining ran away.  The Turks ran away after they found out that the Sooba had died.  Baba Bidhi Chand ji saw the cowards run away.  He came back to Guru ji.  He walked slowly to find Guru ji.

Guru ji was tired and sat down on the ground near the Navaab and the 2 Khatris.  It was dark now.  Sight was limited because of the darkness.  The bullets stopped firing.  The Turks did not speak out of fear.  The army went back to their tents.  The noise stopped.  There was no one close by.

6-44 Gathering the Bodies

The Sikhs away from Baba Bidhi Chand ji found out about Guru ji’s victory over Abdul Khan, Rattan Chand and Karam Chand.  It was dark and so the Sikhs attacked the remaining Turks.  They killed many Turks.  The Turks ran away.  Their horses had died.  They ran away on foot and hid from the Sikhs.  Some brave ones fought and died.  The Sikhs chased the ones running away.  The Turks said: “for the sake of your Guru, don’t kill us!”  When the Sikhs heard that, they stopped and moved back.  They didn’t kill them then.  They went back to Satguru ji’s Dhera.  Some Sevadaars were at the Dhera, waiting for Guru ji to return.  The Sevadaars said to each other: “it is dark now.  Guru ji hasn’t returned.  It is time for Rehraas.”  They took torches and went to the field to look for Guru ji.  It was miles long and they couldn’t find Guru ji.

Baba Bidhi Chand ji saw the Sikhs with the torches. He took his horses to the Sikhs.  The Sikhs asked: “we haven’t seen Guru ji.”  Baba Bidhi Chand ji didn’t know where he was either.  The Sikhs tried to find Guru ji.  They shouted out: “Guru ji!”  Everyone was worried.  They couldn’t find him.  There were piles of bodies everywhere.  The Sikhs looked through them.  There was a lot of blood everywhere.  It was slippery.  The ground was gruesome to look at.  Their feet would slip as they walked.  There were thousands of bodies.  There were bodies of Sikhs and Turks on the ground.  They moved around the field, trying to locate Guru ji.  They lit torches and looked.

Some Sikhs reached where Guru ji was.  Guru ji was sitting with the body of Adbul Khan.  There were other bodies around him.  There were many Turks killed.  Karam Chand and Rattan Chand, their bodies were there too.  The strong warrior, the destroyer of sinners, was sitting on the ground.  The Sikhs saw him and ran to him.  Their eyes gleamed when they saw Guru ji.  They all bowed to Guru ji’s feet.  They felt relieved to see Guru ji.  Baba Bidhi Chand ji said: “Prabhoo ji, why are you sitting on the ground?  Nobody is with you.  You have no servant.  What is your wish?”  Guru ji said: “what I wish to do, can only happen in the morning now.  Let’s go back.  Let’s collect the injured and treat them.  Let’s go to the Dhera and rest.  Find our injured men.  Don’t leave them here.  We will see to the martyrs in the morning.”  Another horse was called for Guru ji.  Guru ji mounted it and went back to his Dhera.

Baba Bidhi Chand ji stayed behind and found the injured Sikhs.  They were taken on platforms back to the Dhera.  He scoped the whole field.  He didn’t want anyone to die, suffering from their wounds.  Slowly, everyone came back.  Baba ji was the last to come back.  The Jaikaras and the victory Nagaras sounded.  The Dhera was taken care of.  Food was given to everyone.  Milk was given to the injured.  The enemy was dead.  Everyone was worry-free.  They all slept peacefully.

Guru ji woke up at 2:30 am.  He did his daily routine and bathed.  He sat in Samadhi, connecting with his real form.  The Sikhs read Gurbani.  The sun came out.  The army bathed and got ready.  Guru ji mounted his horse and took Baba Bidhi Chand ji with him.  He saw the fields.  14,000 Turks were on the field.  1,000 ran away.  Sikhs were among the dead.  Guru ji told the Sikhs to dig a grave.  Sooba Abdul Khan’s sons were picked up and buried with respect.  Abdul Khan was buried along with them.  The 5 generals’ bodies were also buried with the 3.  Guru ji had a platform made on top of their graves.  He then sat on top it.  Guru ji laughed towards Baba Bidhi Chand ji and said: “the Shastervidya we used to practice everyday, it rewarded us now.  It worked.  We would have lost otherwise.  Shastervidya kills the enemy.  You were far away when I was fighting Abdul Khan.  He fought hard.  He fought me with a sword.  He took a lot of blows and gave them too.  Both Khatris died too.  They wanted to avenge their fathers’ deaths.  Their wishes are all dead now.  There’s no one to carry on their legacy.  It was a big war.  It was bigger than the Amritsar battle.  Thousands of Turks were proud of their strength but the Guru destroyed them all.”  Baba ji folded his hands and said: “the ones who don’t know of your power and radiance, those fools were destined to die like this.  Who can escape alive from you?  There is no one stronger than you in the 3 Loks.  Who can face you?  The Turks are nothing in front of you.  They wanted to be equal to you.  They died.”  Satguru ji commanded the Sikhs: “gather other men from the nearby villages.  Call the labourers.”  Everyone gathered.  Guru ji said: “collect all of the Sikh Martyrs and set them into the Beas River.  First gather the Sikhs’ bodies.  I will sit near the shore.  Show their faces to me first and tell me their names.  I will have their funerals done in the river.  I will sit there till every last one has been placed into the river.”  Guru Hargobind ji got up and other Sikhs went with him.

People of the villages all came to help and work.  Some came to do Seva and some came to earn money.  Guru ji sat on a chair near the shore of the river.  A canopy was set on top of Guru ji’s head.  Chaurs were waived over his head.  The Shaheed Sikhs were brought to Guru ji.  Their names were said out loud.  Guru ji blessed each of the Shaheeds’ bodies.  The bodies were respectfully placed into the river.  The river current was strong and took the bodies along.  Guru ji saw the river flowing.  He stayed till the last was done.  Some Sikhs were with desires; some were desireless.  He gave bhugti and Mukti accordingly.  The ones with desires got kingdoms in their next life.  They were given those blessings.  The desireless ones had all of their bonds cut and given Mukti.  After the funerals were done, Guru ji said: “bring the bodies of the Turks as well.  The 14,000 that came, bring them.”  The Turks’ bodies were placed into the river.  Thousands were dragged by the legs and thrown into the river.  There were many fish and creatures in the river that came and began to eat the flesh of the dead warriors.  Thousands of people were working to gather the bodies.  They quickly threw them all.  The bodies on the field, they were thrown in the river.  Some bodies were eaten by scavengers.  Some were cut in pieces.  Everything was thrown.  The water splashed as the bodies were thrown.  Guru ji had the place cleaned up as illnesses would have spread otherwise.

Guru ji got up and went to his Dhera.  The Sikhs with Guru ji were happy.  The Sikhs would talk to Guru ji about the battle: “the Turks were given a strong blow.  The whole world will know now that the Turks lost.  Shah Jahan will understand now too.  He will know how the Sikhs are.”  Everyone came back to the Dhera with Guru ji.  Saying the name of Guru ji, the Jumms run away.  Majha and Doaba sang the glories of Satguru ji.  His glories spread throughout the land.  They talked about the battle: “the Turks were all killed.  Guru ji wore weapons and proved his right.  He won.  He killed countless sinners.  There was Peeree in the Guru’s home first.  Now it seems like the Meeree, kingdom, will be taken as well.  The Avatar of Parmeshwar will kill the Shah’s forces and make his Sikhs rule the land.  If he continues fighting like this, all of the Turks will die.”  The good people heard this and were happy.  The jealous ones were upset.  In the east, south, west and north; Guru ji’s pure glory was spread.  Everyone said: “Dhan Sri Satguru, the complete omnipotent one.  He is a strong warrior and the destroyer of the sinners.”

6-45 Bhai Subhaga brings 5 Horses

Listen all Singhs and Sikhs!  Listen to the beautiful Katha of the Satguru.  It will give you Mukti.  In this way a great battle was fought.  Guru ji’s praises spread.  Guru ji sat in a Divaan in Sri Hargovindpur.  Guru ji was the form of Gyaan.  Guru ji said to the Masands: “make a wall around the city.  There will be a nice city here.  Everyone will be allowed to live here.  Hindus and Muslims will make their houses here.  Make 5 gates to the city.  Make the walls high.  Make craftsmen work on the gates.  Make it quickly.  Give a lot of money to the workers to do the work.”  The Masands obeyed and started to work.  They gave a lot of money to the workers.  Many brick-baking kilns were set up.  The bricks were baked.  Many labourers came to work from nearby villages.  Craftsmen were called and paid.  They all worked fast.  The bricks were set for the wall.  Everyone did the Seva with joy.  The craftsmen worked with joy as well.  They were paid well.  Houses were constructed for people to live in.  Rich and poor were all given houses.  Many people came to settle there.  It was a new place.  It was beautiful, as it was near the Beas.  Satguru ji thought to himself: “where Bhagavan Das’s house was, we should pull its roots.  Some relative will come to claim inheritance.  He was against the Guru and egotistical.  He bothered the people.  If his root is not pulled, some Gherard relative will come and claim the land.  His son died too but some other cousin may come and get help from the Turks.  They will stake a claim years later.”  Guru ji thought deeply and gave a command: “where the home of Gherard is, tear it down.  Pull the foundation.  He slandered the Guru.  We should make a Dharmsala there but the Turks will tear it down later.  The Gherard relatives will make their house again.  I want to make sure there isn’t a conflict here again.  For this reason, make a Mosque there.  Make beautiful doors to it.  The Muslims will love it.  They won’t do anything bad to it.”  The Masands heard that and carried Guru ji’s orders out.  The Mosque was still there during Kavi Santokh Singh ji’s time.  It was known as “Guru-ki-Museet.”  Up till 1947 CE, Muslims came there.  After Pakistan was made, the Muslims left the area.  The place began to deteriorate over time but Jathedaar Baba Bishan Singh ji of Tarna Dal had it cleaned up.

Guru ji stayed in Sri Hargovindpur for the remaining rainy season.  He admired the rains.  The clouds would come and rain.  It was like saints coming to shower their blessings onto the world.  The rain would not discriminate on where it would land; fields or barren lands.  Everyone loves rain just as everyone loves Gurbani.  Just as seeds grow after the rains, if Gurbani rains, the seed of love grows inside you.  The peacocks would sing and dance hearing the rain.  The listeners would hear Keertan, their minds would dance.  They would sing Gurbani.  Just as frogs make more noise when it rains, the Sikhs would hear Gurbani and do more Keertan.  The fish are happy as well.  The Sikhs would be happy and swim in the ocean of Gurbani.  The Juvasa plant is the only plant that dies when it rains.  The Manmukh slanderers would burn with jealousy by the praise of the Guru.  Majha, Malwa and Doaba was green.  Beas was flowing.  Sikhi was spreading and flourishing everywhere.  The river current was strong. The water splashed on both shores.  The love in the hearts of Bhagats overflowed, seeing the Guru and hearing Gurbani.  They loved listening to Gurbani.  The seeds all grow in Saavan.  Sikhi gives birth to a lot of virtues.  Guru ji would sit near the shores of the Beas.  He would look at the current.  Wood would be in the water.  Sometimes the water would be clean and sometimes it would have dirt from the mountains.  Sometimes the trees would be taken by the current.  The love and Gyaan of Sikhi kills the hate and attachment of the mind.  Guru ji would hold Divaan there sometimes.  The Rababis would do Keertan in Raags.  The people would come there and give their gifts.  They would see Guru ji’s radiance.  Guru ji’s glory spread.

Baba Bidhi Chand ji’s horse was injured in the battle.  It eventually died the next day.  Many other horses died.  Some Sikhs that were injured, they were tended to.  Guru ji made sure they were getting better.  Guru ji started to buy more horses.  They were strong and expensive.  He gave them to the Sikhs whose horses had died.  The Sikhs were happy to receive them.  They were expensive.  Guru ji had them called from the east.  The stronger horses would be for Guru ji.  Guru ji was really heavy and tall and so the stronger ones would go to Guru ji.  He needed strong and clever ones.  A weak one wouldn’t do.  Guru ji was well built like iron.  He was tall and wide.  He needed fast horses.  Guru ji didn’t like any of the horses presented to him.  He thought of his previous horse that died: “that horse was virtuous.  It was great.  It moved with my thoughts.  That horse was from Lahore.  I had to go through a lot to get that horse.  It died in the battle.”  Guru ji would talk about that horse with everyone.  It was the one that Mata Kaulan ji’s father had claimed for himself but was originally bought by a Sikh from the west.  Guru ji said: “tell me if you find such a horse again.  I will pay what is asked for.  I will be happy with the one who brings me a horse like that.  Such a horse is not found in this land.  Find out where we can get such a horse.”  Guru ji would enlist new young men into the army.

Time passed.  Guru ji did not forget his horse.  He wanted a strong horse and thought about it everyday.  Sangat gathered from the west to come to Guru ji.  A rich Sikh in that Sangat, named Bhai Subhaga ji, came with that Sangat.  He collected his Dasvand for the last 2 or 3 years.  He knew what Guru ji liked.  He paid 100,000 Rajitpuns per horse.  He bought 5 of them for Guru ji.  He was a really rich person.  He brought those horses from the west.  Thousands of Sikhs were travelling.  Bhai Subhaga ji brought those horses by hiding them from the Turks.  He did their Seva as well.

Bhai Subhaga ji arrived to Guru ji’s court.  It was night and so he tied the horses.  The Sangat camped the night.  The Divaan started in the morning.  The Mevra came to announce the Divaan: “it is time to visit Satguru ji now.  Come and get his blessings.”  The Sangat collected their gifts and came to the court.  They brought jewellery and clothes.  Weapons and money were brought for Guru ji.  Horses were brought.  They met Guru ji.  The strong and powerful Guru was seated on his Takhat.  Chaurs were waived over his head.  The Mevra did the Ardaas of all the Sangat presenting their gifts.  They all bowed to Guru ji’s feet.  The Sangat was very happy to see the Guru of the world.  Guru ji looked at the Shasters first.  He then saw the horses.  He checked the colour and form.  The 5 horses were strong.  Guru ji was really happy.  He broke the bonds of birth and death for Bhai Subhaga ji.  The other Sikhs that came, all of their wishes were fulfilled by Guru ji.  They got what they wanted.  Their love increased, seeing the handsome Guru.  He smiled and looked at the Sikhs.  He blessed everyone as he saw them.  The Sikhs were making their lives a success.  The Sangat stayed for a few weeks and left for home.  They travelled during the day and rested at night.  They sang the praises of Guru ji as they went home: “the Guru Avatar is the destroyer of the Turks.  He has made the Sangat very happy.”  They all praised him in this way.  The others who heard the praises, wanted to go and see Guru ji for themselves.
