6-16 Guru ji’s Victory
When the battle got fierce, Didar Ali came. He challenged Bhai Painday Khan ji to fight. The fact was that he actually challenged his own death. Both warriors ran towards each other with their horses. They both mounted arrows on to their bows. They shot at each other, trying to kill one another. The warriors on both sides injured each other. The shields clashed and the swords flashed like lightening flashes. The warriors fell after being struck. The brave fought. The cowards ran away. The blood flowed from the wounds. The horses trampled the dead bodies. The fairies came from heaven to take the warriors. The fairies wanted the best warriors. Their faces were radiant. Didar Ali aimed at Bhai Painday Khan ji and released an arrow. The arrow hit Bhai Painday Khan but it was blocked by Painday Khan’s chain mail. Didar Ali tried hard to shot him down but failed. They maneuvered their horses and fought. Bhai Painday Khan released an arrow but it was blocked by Didar Ali’s chain mail. Bhai Painday Khan aimed at Didar Ali’s horse and released the arrow. It hit the horse in the forehead. The horse fell and Didal Ali jumped off. He took his sword and shield out. He said to Painday Khan in anger: “you killed my horse! That doesn’t mean anything. Come and fight me now, off your horse. I want to see how good you are.” Bhai Painday Khan heard this and couldn’t tolerate his challenge. He got off his horse and yelled: “why do you want to die? Come close. Maybe you haven’t heard my name yet. You won’t survive my punch. Let me slap you. Then I’ll fight you with my sword.” The Syed said: “I will cut your hand off first.” Didar Ali swung his sword. Painday Khan blocked it with his shield and punched Didar Ali under his ear. The punch was too powerful. Didar Ali couldn’t tolerate the punch. He shivered and fell to the ground. He died without being struck by a weapon. Everyone saw this fight. The Sikhs said: “Shaabaash!” Guru ji saw this fight and laughed out loud. He came close to Painday Khan. Bhai Painday Khan walked to Guru ji as well.
Mughlas Khan saw the fight and thought to himself: “Sultan Beg and Didar Ali have both been killed. I have no one left. I will have to lead a charge now. I will have to face the Guru.” He inspired his horse and came forward. He came to the front line. He faced Guru Hargobind Sahib ji and said: “many have died. Nothing has been solved. There is no decision yet. The both of us will fight now. Everyone will see us fight and be happy. I will make you happy with my fight. Either you will die or you will kill me. This will decide the result of the war.” Guru ji heard this and stopped everyone else. He said to them: “everyone: back off and watch the battle!” The Turks backed off and stopped charging. The Sikhs stopped fighting as well.
Guru ji and Mughlas Khan faced each other and released arrows. Both warriors were wise. Mughals Khan was a great warrior. He knew battle strategies well. He said to Guru ji: “I want to fight you with a sword and a shield. Your arrows are too strong. I can’t compete with you. You are a great archer. Your arrows are heavy and your bow is too strong. I’ve seen how many you have killed with your arrows. I want to fight you with my sword.” Regarding the Dharma of warriorism, Guru ji got off his horse. The lion-Guru took a Faulaadi Tulwar in his right hand. It was so sharp that an ant couldn’t walk on it. It could cut metal. Guru ji was proud of his Tulwar. It could cut chainmail. A human was nothing in front of it. It had a golden hilt. In his left hand, was a heavy shield. One of the Boss was 25 Sers in weight. Mughlas Khan took out his Faulaad Tulwar and his shield. He was a skilled warrior. He came to fight Guru ji. He moved back and forth to strike. He wanted to strike Guru ji. Sri Guru ji said to him: “listen Khan, whatever Vidhya you have learned, use it all today. Show it to me all today. I will show you what I have learned from Baba Bhudda ji. The skills that you trust and came to fight with today, show them to me. Both of our armies are watching. They are all hoping for victory. Do the first strike. I don’t want you to have any regrets. I want to see your power.” Mughlas Khan heard Guru ji’s fearless and patient words. He looked into Guru ji’s eyes. He wanted to strike and looked for an opportunity. He thought to himself: “if I strike with my sword, he will block it with his shield. He is very alert. I can see that from his eyes. I won’t be able to strike him.” Guru ji was 7 feet tall. He was like a lion. His Shamsher was in his hand. Mughlas Khan looked for an opportunity. He jumped and swung his sword. He looked towards Guru ji’s neck to pretend that he was going to go for Guru ji’s neck but he swung his sword toward Guru ji’s legs instead. Guru ji lifted his leg up and Mughlas Khan’s strike ran empty. He then swung again and aimed at Guru ji’s ear. Guru ji stopped the strike with his shield. Guru ji then swung his sword and hit Mughals Khan in the ribs. It was a very powerful and clean strike. All of the weapons and chainmail that Mughlas Khan was wearing, cut and split off. It was a diagonal cut. The ribs were all cut. Mughlas Khan’s body was split in two. His left arm and head were on one side. His right arm and the rest of his body fell on the other side. Two legs and one arm were together. Guru ji’s strike was clean, like a wire going through a soap bar. Mughlas Khan’s eyes remained open. He was still holding his sword and shield. The Sikhs started to shout Guru ji’s Jaikaras. The Turks were amazed to see this.
The Turks attacked and fired their guns at once. They ran their horses and charged. They fired their guns and then took out their swords. They all attacked Guru ji to avenge their general’s death. The Sikhs attacked as well. Guru ji commanded Painday Khan: “Listen Painday Khan, attack along with Malik Jaati and Bhai Bidhi Chand. The Guru will be with you. The army doesn’t have a Sardar. Take your swords and kill them. They will have to be killed. Make the cowards run away. Let them go. The battle is over. They are going to run.” Bhai Painday Khan ji took his sharp sword and attacked the Turks like a lion going into a herd of deer. He cut many Turks. Nobody survived, who he cut. Bhai Bidhi Chand ji attacked and killed many. Bhai Jaati Malik ji killed many with his sword. The other Sikhs went and made the Turks run away. The bodies piled up. The heads rolled. The hands and feet were cut. Many died under the horses. Many got scared and ran away. The Turks had no leader to lead them. They ran like mad men. The Guru’s army killed them. The cowards ran like deer being chased by a lion. They didn’t look back. The ones that folded their hands, their weapons and horses were taken away. They were allowed to run away on foot. For 3 km, the Sikhs chased them and made them run away. They came back and sounded the Nagara of victory. Guru ji was happy and so were the Sikhs.
Guru ji had the injured picked up and sent to the nearby villages to be treated. Everyone was commanded to prepare for food and dressing for the injured. Gurudev ji won the field and took care of the warriors. Guru Hargobind Sahib ji was like a lion. Kavi Santokh Singh praises the Guru. There was a lot of blood and flesh on the field. People saw that and got scared.
6-17 Cremating the Shaheeds/ Going to Chabaal
The battle started after midnight. It was now afternoon. The whole night was spent fighting. In 9 hours, Guru ji killed the 7,000 soldiers of the Mughal army. Guru ji killed Mughlas Khan. Guru ji looked around the field and saw flesh and blood everywhere. Jackels, vultures and dogs were everywhere, eating the flesh. There were bodies upon bodies. Human and horse corpses were everywhere. Guru ji scoped the whole area on his horse. He went to the Logarh Fort to see the Shaheed Sikhs. Guru ji said to Bhai Bidhi Chand ji: “take others and cremate the bodies of the Sikhs that were martyred in the battle. Gather their bodies and cremate them in one place.” Bhai Bidhi Chand ji heard the orders and gathered other Sikhs to help him. They found a lot of dead bodies of the Turks as well. They separated the bodies of the Sikhs and asked Guru ji where to do their cremation. Guru ji said: “do the cremation near my home.”
The bodies of the Shaheeds were taken to Guru ji’s home. A pyre was prepared near Guru ji’s home. The wood that was going to be used for the wedding was used for the pyre. Guru ji sat down there and read Gurbani. The Sikhs placed the bodies of the martyrs near Guru ji. Bhai Mohan ji and Bhai Gopala ji were about to die. They had a few breaths left. Bhai Bidhi Chand ji brought them to Guru ji. Guru ji got up and went to see them. Guru ji took a handkerchief and wiped the faces of his beloved Sikhs: Bhai Mohan ji and Bhai Gopala ji. Guru ji spoke to them with respect: “Mohan and Gopala, you are very dear to me. Ask for a boon. Tell me what is your wish. The doors of Guru Nanak Dev ji are open for you. There is nothing I can’t give you. I am extremely happy with you. Ask without any doubts. If you want to live in this world, if you want to be kings, or if you want anything else in this world, you will get it all. You can get all of the pleasures of the world from me.” Bhai Mohan Singh ji folded his hands and said: “Bhai Gopala ji and I used to live in your army. We listened to Keertan and served the horses. We used to talk to each other: “when we die, it will be good of the Satguru is in front of us.” This is the only wish we had. We got what we wanted, seeing you right now. You are omniscient. You know everything. We only thought about it but you fulfilled our wish. This is the reason why we didn’t leave our bodies on the battlefield. We wanted to see you before we leave. You were gracious and visited us. There is no other better thing than this. Jogis, Jattis, Tappis, Brahamachaaris, Bhagats, and Gyaanis want this joy. They all want to see you when they die. They do so much hard work for this. There is no other desire that we have. Stay with us in every dimension. Keep us with you. Every time you take an Avatar, keep us with you for your Seva. We wish to not have any wishes. We only want to be with you. The other Sikhs that have died in battle, keep them with you as well.” Sri Guru ji heard this and was very happy. He said: “Bhai Mohan, the generous, you are great! Whatever you asked for, I will give you what you want. The Shaheeds will go to Sach Khand and be with me.” Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib ji looked towards the Sikhs. The Sikhs left their bodies.
Their dying was blessed. They saw the Parmeshwar Guru before they died. Guru ji had all of the bodies bathed with the water from the Sarovar. New clothes were put on top of the Shaheeds’ bodies. A huge pyre was made for the Sikhs right next to Guru ji’s home. Firewood was added on top. Guru ji took a torch and lit the pyre with his own hands. He gave the Shaheeds Sameep Mukti. Jaikaras of Guru ji were shouted. Sandalwood and ghee were put on the pyre. The cremation was done with glory and respect. Vessels from Sach Khand came to get the souls of the Shaheeds. They were boarded on the vessels with great respect. The Devatas came to get them and took them to Satguru ji’s Lok where there is no pain, no ego, no attachment and no sorrow. There is no fear of old age or dying there. The highest and infinite status is achieved there. The bodies were cremated. Guru ji praised the Shaheeds: “they fought with bravery.”
Guru ji and the warriors mounted their horses and went to Amritsar Sarovar. They bathed in the Sarovar and bowed to Akaal Takhat. They went to the Darshani Deodi and bowed. They stood inside Harmandhir Sahib and bowed to Guru Ramdas ji. Guru ji gave donations to Brahmins and Sadhoos. Guru ji then did 4 Parkarmas of Harmandhir Sahib ji, thinking of the Gurus while doing it. He bowed and then came to Akaal Takhat. The Bhatts and singers all came. Guru ji gave them donations. They sang the praises of Guru ji. Guru ji had the Nagaras of victory sounded and mounted his horse. Guru ji took the warriors to Chabaal.
Guru ji was very happy on the way to Chabaal. It was 21 km away. Where the whole family was, Guru ji Bhagavan arrived there. Guru ji gave orders right away. It was Bhai Langaah ji’s place where they were. He and Mata ji had prepared the stuff. Guru ji said to the merchants: “bring the stuff for the wedding.” They brought all of the items of need. They were paid for everything. Ghee, sugar and flour was brought. The Pakvaans were then cooked. The Halvaees began to cook the food and sweets. Silk rolls were bought and new clothes were prepared. Everything in Amritsar was destroyed by the army. Thousands were spent on the new items. The merchants were all paid to bring the items of need. The tailors began to sew the clothes and the cooks cooked food. The preparation that happened over the period of months, had to happen in one day. Everything was prepared quickly by Guru ji.
When everyone found out that the Bharaat was near, the Masands were sent to receive them. They brought the Bharaat in with great respect. Pattas, flutes and dhols were played as they came. Shehnais, Napheeryas and dhols were playing. Money was showered over the Bharaat. Money was showered over the groom. Bhai Sadhoo ji had come to marry Bibi Veero ji. The family traditions were all preformed. The Bharaat stayed in the Junj ghar. Everyone rested. Everyone saw the groom, who was really handsome. The people of Chabaal said: “the groom is handsome and full of virtues.” It was sundown and so the Bharaat was called for food.
In the evening, the Bharaat was served by the Devatas. The Sikhs served the Bharaat. The Devatas took on the forms of humans and came to do the Seva. The Sikhs who had fought the battle were tired. They had to get the items of need but couldn’t. The Devatas came to help them. The Devatas cooked and served the Bharaatis. The stuff in Amritsar was destroyed. Everything that was collected, was destroyed. The Devatas understood that Guru ji did the battle to save their traditions. They came to serve the Guru. They were very handsome-looking humans. Their wives came as beautiful women. Some Devatas brought beds and some laid out the tarps. They lit the fire at night and brought other items of need. Some gave feed to the horses and some brought ghee, sweets and food. Some made Shardai and gave it to the Bharaatis. They sprinkled saffron and Kumkum sandalwood everywhere. Some Devatas fanned the Sangat. They did all the Seva. The beds that were laid out had beautiful sheets on them. Silk ropes were used for the canopies with Zarri. Everyone was surprised at how fast the preparations were made. The people didn’t understand that the Guru is Parmeshwar. The Devatas and powers served him. The Devatas brought water from the river and the wells. It was hot and so everyone needed water to stay cool. The water had fragrant things in them. The water tasted great. It had unique and unfamiliar things in it. Everything was of the highest quality.
When Guru ji sent his Sikhs to get things, they were surprised to see that all of the preparations were already done. When the Sikhs asked the Bharaatis who did the Seva, they said: “we were given everything we needed.” The Sikhs came back to Guru ji and told him: “the Seva of the Bharaatis had been already done by the people of the village. They got whatever they needed before we got there. The torches were lit, the horses were fed, the Sikhs brought it all.” Satguru ji said: “where did so many Sikhs come from? There are a lot of Bharaatis. Go and find out. Whatever the Sikhs need, give it to them.” The Sikhs folded their hands and said: “Maharaj, we already asked. Everyone got what they needed. They already had been given what they needed. Everyone is satiated. The Sikhs of nearby villages had come and served them.” The omniscient Guru then sensed that the Devatas had come to serve the Bharaatis. They completed all of the tasks. Guru ji was then not concerned about the preparations anymore. He shifted his focus towards the marriage of Bibi Veero ji.
6-18 Bibi Veero’s Wedding
It was around 10 pm, Bhai Jaati Malik Purohit ji said: “Maharaj, it is time for the wedding. Let’s do the Laavan now.” The Laagis called the Bharaat. Bhai Dharma Khosla ji was told: “bring your son to the Mandap. Guru ji has called for you.” Bhai Dharma Khosla ji brought everyone to the Mandap with musicians and fireworks. They went to where Guru ji was. They did the traditions of the family. The groom was seated at the Mandap. The Pooja of Ganpat and the Navgrehs happened. The fire was lit after sprinkling water. Many torches were lit
The fort of the Turks was close by. A guard was watching and noticed that there was a lot of lights lit in the distance. He found out what was going on. He wondered who was getting married. There was a lot of light from the torches. He was told that: the Guru of the Hindus was there. He also found out that Guru ji defeated the Shah’s army: “the Guru killed a big army and has come to Chabaal after his victory.” The Turk wanted to take revenge for his fellow soldiers. He had a good riffle. He wanted to shoot in the dark: “the Guru will be killed and the Sikhs will go away. Nobody will know who shot the bullet.” The sinner prepared his riffle, inspired by his own death. He saw Guru ji separate from anyone, as he was so tall. He aimed towards Guru ji, who was standing with all the Bharaatis. There was a lot of light there. He aimed at Guru ji and fired. The riffle was aimed at Guru ji but the riffle exploded from the back when he fired. His head exploded right away. He died instantly. Nobody else saw him die as he was alone at night. He couldn’t even scream. His body was found in the morning by the next shift. The sinner got his outcome right away.
At night, when the guard fired his riffle, the Sikh warriors heard it and grabbed their guns right away. They were ready to fight. They saddled their horses. The Sikhs near Guru ji said to each other: “get ready! Looks like the Turks are back to take revenge.” Guru Hargobind Sahib ji heard this and said: “there’s no enemy. Stay here and continue with the wedding. There is a Turk who died in the fort you see over there. His riffle exploded when he fired. He was a coward who wanted to kill me in the dark. He received what he deserved right away. The time is coming, this fort of Chabaal will fall as well. The forts of the Turks will fall.” The Sikhs continued to observe the wedding. The Pheray were about to happen.
The Brahmins had the bride come and seated at the Bedi. The Vedic traditions occurred and the Laavan happened. Everyone was happy that the Laavan happened on the day that was decided upon. The wedding was complete. The groom and his father got up with the Bharaat and went to Junj Ghar. The food was ready and so the Bharaatis were invited. Bhai Gurdas ji and Bhai Bidhi Chand ji called everyone for food. No one was afraid as they knew Guru ji was with them. Everyone slept the night without fear.
In the morning, Guru ji got the dowry ready. Golden jewellery and pearl necklaces were given. Mata Damodri ji gave silk and Pashmina clothes with gold work. Strong horses were given with great respect. Bhai Dharma ji and Bhai Sadhoo ji folded their hands and bowed to the feet of Guru Hargobind Sahib ji. Guru ji placed his hand on the head of Bhai Sadhoo ji. As soon as Guru ji’s hand touched Bhai Sadhoo ji’s head, Bhai Sadhoo ji received many powers. He had become very powerful. (He had also written Bani that can be found in other historical texts) He had become a Brahmgyaani. He also bowed to Mata Damodri ji’s feet. Mata Damodri ji gave him a lot of blessings. He then bowed to Mata Mahadevi Marwahi ji and Mata Nanaki ji. Everyone blessed the new son-in-law. The rest of the family met him. Sri Guru ji called for the Dholi which had pearl strands and gold work on it. There were gems on it. Mata Damodri ji hugged Bibi Veero ji and began to cry. The “Kanya Dhaan,” giving away of the bride, is considered the highest of all donations. The coldest of hearts cry during this time. There were tears in the eyes of Mata Damodri ji. The whole family met Bibi Veero ji with love. Baba Gurditta ji, Baba Suraj Mal ji, Baba Atal Rai ji, Baba Ani Rai ji and Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib ji met their sister. After meeting everyone, Bibi Veero ji hugged Guru Hargobind Sahib ji and cried. Guru ji put his hand on his daughter’s head. As a father looked towards his daughter leaving, there were tears in Guru Hargobind Sahib ji’s eyes. The Parmeshwar was sending his daughter off. The Guru is the ocean of compassion who feels the pain of the world. He gave blessings to his daughter and had her seated in the Dholi. The servants picked up the Dholi. The Bharaatis bowed to Guru ji’s feet and left Chabaal with joy. A lot of money was showered over the Dholi. Bhai Dharma ji was very happy.
After the wedding, Guru ji sat down with the Sikhs in Chabaal. Bhai Bidhi Chand ji spoke: “this place has become pure by your feet. The wedding happened here instead of Amritsar. Nobody knows your Maya. Nobody knows your ways.” Guru ji said: “when the time comes, Gurduaras will be made where the wedding occurred. Pooja will happen here. Sikh Saints will come and bow here. Their prayers will be answered here and they will get what they wish for. If someone’s child cannot get married, they can come here and do Ardaas. Their Ardaas will be fulfilled. On the 26th of Jeth, there will be a Mela here every year. Whoever comes here, they will be rewarded.” It was 1679 Vikram when the wedding happened. Guru ji’s daughter was married here.
Guru ji spent some time here with his family. The items were packed and loaded onto the carts. Everyone took care of their duties. The warriors got ready and saddled their horses. Guru ji wanted to leave Chabaal. The chariots and palanquins were ready. The family boarded their vehicles and left before Guru ji. Guru ji had them sent to Taran Taaran. The 5 Sahibzadas were sent with the 3 wives of Guru ji. The mothers were sad as Bibi Veero ji was no longer with them. They were also upset about leaving Amritsar and the damage that occurred. The mothers said to each other: “we were happy in our own home. He had to leave our home. It was about the Baaz. This was not a big thing that caused so much damage. Nobody can say anything to Guru ji. He does what he pleases. Whatever comes from his mouth becomes true. For not giving the Pakvaans to the Sikhs, Guru ji said a curse right away. He said: “the Turks will eat this food.” He didn’t consider his own damage. He put many obstacles in his own daughter’s marriage. If our wise mother-in-law was here, she would have solved this problem quickly. She would have handled everything. Everything is still fine though. The battle happened and everyone is still well. The family survived.” Mata ji thought about all this and worried. She talked with the other mothers in this way. The whole family was worried. They remembered the joy of Amritsar. They said: “a problem was brought up on us. Guru ji caused the obstacles and so much damage was done.” Nobody understood the ways of the Guru.
The Nagara of victory was sounding. The warriors mounted their horses and got ready to leave. They all started on the journey with Guru ji. They were headed towards Taran Taaran. Noor Deen Di Sarah was on the way (the place of Kavi Santokh Singh ji’s birth). Guru ji came to the east side of Taran Taaran. The camp was set up on that side of the Sarovar. The warriors rested the night here. They all bathed in the Sarovar. The Sarovar is the largest of all at 1,000 feet by 990 feet. Guru Arjan Dev ji had purchased the land along with the nearby villages for 157,000 Rajitpuns. As it was quite hot, they all felt cooler after bathing. Guru ji sat by the edge of the Sarovar. He was looking at the Teerath of Guru Arjan Dev ji, his father. The glory of this place could be seen. Guru ji said to the Sikhs along with the warriors: “listen, whoever bathes here, will be rewarded. The most dangerous illness will be destroyed. The sins of many births will be washed away. One should bathe here for 12 Masyas. If a woman wants a son, she should bathe here on Masya, thinking of Guru Arjan Dev ji. She will get a son. Any other wishes will also be fulfilled here. You must have faith to be rewarded. The radiance of this Teerath will grow in time. Melas will be held here on Masya.” Everyone sat there for some time.
After a while, the food was ready. Guru ji ate food and had everyone else eat as well. Everyone rested the night. The next day, during the late afternoon, Satguru ji had the preparations made. Guru ji said: “there is not too much sun right now. We should leave.” The Nagara to move ahead sounded and everyone headed towards Goindwal. Guru ji bowed to the place where the throne of Guru Arjan Dev ji was and left Taran Taaran. He mounted his horse. Everyone boarded their chariots and palanquins. The destroyer of enemies was travelling to Goindwal.
6-19 Shah Jahan gets news of Mukhlas Khan’s Loss
In this way, Guru Hargobind Sahib ji was headed towards Goindwal. In Lahore, listen to the Katha of what was happening there. Listen to what happened to the Turks. The ones that ran away from the battle, they spent the night in some village. They came to Shah Jahan in the morning. They had torn clothes and no weapons. They were scared. They were lower-ranked soldiers. Their comrades had died. They said to the Badshah: “the generals you sent; they have all been killed along with Mughlas Khan. No one survived. The Guru killed them all.” Shah Jahan heard this and was really surprised. He said: “how did such a big army get destroyed?”
The soldiers that ran away, they were called close to the Badshah. They did their Salaams to the Badshah. The Badshah said: “how was the war? How did the Guru kill everyone? What magic or deceit did the Guru do to kill everyone? Did the Guru have a bigger army? I heard he only had a few hundred men with him in his army. How did they kill everyone?” The soldiers said: “Khuddah’s ways can not be known. We were ten times more than the Guru’s army. He didn’t cheat us. He fought in front of us. We tried cheating them. We went at night and tried to kill them in the dark. The Guru had a canon before the city on a high place. We saw the canon. It was made of wood. The canon had dirt and stones in it. We fought there first. They killed many of our men. There were only 25 Sikhs. We killed them all with difficulty. We attacked and took the canon. We charged hard and had a fierce battle. We surrounded them. They had a dirt wall there. That was their fort. We killed them with our swords. We were surprised to see the wooden canon. We then went to the Guru’s home. He looted his home and ate his food. We looted the other homes as well. We fell asleep and thought the Guru was gone but the Guru came back and attacked with his Sikhs. They fired many bullets at us. The Guru’s arrows were released. They caused chaos. His arrows were 4 fingers thick and made of faulaad. They were scary arrows. They would go through 5 people at once. His one arrow would kill so many. His Sikhs were great marksmen. They had few soldiers but killed many of our people. The bullets were like hail in Bhadron. Thousands of our people died. Our bullets were fired but they didn’t hit the Sikhs. We didn’t know where our bullets were going. (Qazi Noor Mohammed mentioned in his writing that the focus that the Sikhs had made them into excellent marksmen. Their waking up at Amritvela and meditation gave them focus) They killed half our army with bullets. When we went close, they fought with swords. Our swords broke. The Guru had low caste, uneducated and uncivilized working-class people. They didn’t know Shastervidya. They were farmers and carpenters. They were all gathered and made into an army. They fought with their swords and killed our army. They cut us like carrots and radishes. Our metal deceived us. We tried striking them but we missed. The Guru gave us a big slap on our face. We have never faced such a loss before. That’s how the army was destroyed. The Guru killed Mughlas Khan with one strike of his sword.” The Badshah heard this and became very angry. He said: “if the Guru will be this stubborn, the whole country will rebel. The Guru must be arrested or killed. I nor the kingdom will not rest till this happens.”
The Badshah called a meeting with all of his Umraavs and Viziers. The head vizier, Bhai Wazir Khan ji also came. He had been close to Jahangir. He did 2 Sukhmani Sahibs everyday. He obeyed the Badshah. Shah Jahan said: “have you head what the Guru has done? He has taken enmity with the crown. He killed the whole army I sent. What is it that you should do? Go and arrest him. Take all the canons and swivel canons. Arrest him or kill him. He will know what it means to rebel. He took my Baaz and didn’t give it back. He was stubborn and fought my army.” The Umraavs heard this and said: “whatever is your command, we will obey.” Bhai Wazir Khan ji folded his hands and said: “do you not have other Hawks? You have the best hawks from around the world. You can ask for more. Your father went to the Guru. I went with Kinch Beg to get him. Divaan Chandoo lied and had the Guru sent to Gwalior. After 40 days, 2 lions would come at night and stand on top of your father’s chest. Your father would call out to the Guru in fear. The Guru would shoo the lions away with his power, holding handkerchiefs in his hands. The Guru listened to the Badshah’s pleas for help. The Badshah called me in the morning and told him his nighttime situation. I went to get Guru ji from Gwalior. The Badshah did not see the lions again. He released 52 kings in his prison, at the insistence of the Guru, for his own peace. The Guru was respected with gems, gold, diamonds and money in the court. Chandoo was surrendered to the Guru. He was killed in revenge for killing the Guru’s father. Guru ji is powerful. He can kill many with his words. He stayed with the Badshah for a long time. The Guru always had his army with him. Your father respected him a lot. The Guru saw his love and stayed with him too. You know all of this, though. What should I tell you? I want you to be fine. For this reason, you should not become enemies with Gurus and saints. The throne of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji is the supreme power. The ones who serve that throne, become great themselves. They become happy. Whoever becomes an enemy of the throne of the Guru, they are destroyed. They whole world knows this. Nobody can compare to Guru Nanak Dev ji. Sian Mia Mir ji is the Peer of Peers. He is the greatest Peer. People of Mecca respect and obey Sian Mia Mir ji. The Peer respects Guru Hargobind ji. He says that he is Allah. You even asked him about Guru ji. The Peer told you that he was the form of Khuddah. All of the Peers meditate on Guru Hargobind Sahib ji. If you make Guru ji mad, he can curse you and destroy you. You won’t survive. There won’t be any solutions if he says something in a cursing way. No other Peer would be able to help you. His words cannot be reversed. I want the best for your health and body. For this reason, I say this to you. You are the master. It is up to you what you want to do. You should see what is best for you. I have just heard that Guru Hargobind Sahib ji has left Amritsar. How can you chase him now? It will cause chaos in the land if people see this. If you chase Sadhoos with an army, people will not like that. There are many negatives in fighting the Guru. Listen to me and let go of your anger. Rule the land with joy in your home.” Shah Jahan thought about what Bhai Wazir Khan ji said. He thought to himself: “Wazir Khan speaks the truth. The best thing is to be healthy. Everyone wants to live in peace and joy.” The Badshah discarded his anger and said: “we won’t fight. We will live with peace and joy. My country should be peaceful. The Guru didn’t attack us. We attacked him. The situation of the Baaz was a small thing. If the Guru doesn’t fight, I will let this situation go.” Bhai Kinch Beg ji was close by. He said: “I know the nature of the Guru. He doesn’t bother the land or the people. If someone opposes him, then he fights and does not back down. He won’t start a rebellion. He is benevolent. He protects everyone.” The Shah said: “this is a good thing then. There is no reason to fight if the Guru doesn’t bother anyone. I won’t send an army. Tell the Guru he can go and live anywhere he wants to. He won’t live in Amritsar so I won’t fight him. He has gone far so there is no need for conflict.” After saying this, the issue was forgotten. The Badshah prepared to go somewhere else. There was peace in Lahore then.
The Katha of the Satguru will continue. Listening to this Katha will bless the lives of the listeners.
6-20 Guru ji Arrives in Goindwal
Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib ji arrived in Goindwal after travelling from Chabaal. It was around 5 pm when everyone reached. The whole village found out: “the warrior Guru is coming after killing the Mughal Army. He won the field and came. The ones that ran away only survived. Guru ji is coming here with his family and army.” Everyone was eager to see Guru ji. They left their work as is and came running to receive Guru ji. Everyone in Goindwal came, bringing dry fruits, sweets and Pakvaans. They met the Guru Bhagavan and bowed to his feet. They placed the food at his feet and folded their hands. They were overjoyed to do his Darshan. Guru ji casted his divine vision on all. He asked everyone how they were. He gave everyone hope and continued moving towards the village of Goindwal. The Sangat did Keertan on the way.
Guru ji first went to Baoli Sahib and bowed his head. The whole army camped there. Guru ji sat near the Baoli and sent a Sikh to call his family: “bring the 5 Sahibzadas here and have them go and bathe at the Baoli.” The Sikhs all came including the Sahibzadas. Everyone bathed in the Baoli, obeying Guru ji’s command. Mata Marwahi ji, Mata Damodri ji and Mata Nanaki ji bowed at the Baoli with devotion and bathed. There was a division for men and women there. Baba Gurditta ji and the other Sahibzadas bathed with joy. Guru Hargobind Sahib ji bathed and then sat with the Sangat to hold a Divaan.
Guru Amardas ji’s family came and brought sweets and Pakvaans for Guru ji. They met everyone and asked how everyone was. Guru ji then got up and went to the Chabarra Sahib, where Guru Amardas ji used to do Tapasya and meet everyone from the window. Guru ji entered the village slowly. He bowed at the Chabarra and put the dust of the place on his forehead. He thought of Guru Amardas ji and did an Ardaas. He bowed and came back to the camp.
The Sikh Sangat came to the Divaan. They did Darshan of Guru ji and sat down. The son of Baba Mohri ji, Baba Anand ji came to see Guru ji along with his son named Baba Sundar ji. Baba Sunda ji was very wise. Baba Sundar ji wrote a Bani named “Sadh,” which was included into the Guru Granth Sahib ji. They brought Prasaad along with the Bhalla family for Guru ji. They bowed to him with great joy. Guru ji respected the family and received them with joy. They sat near Guru ji. Baba Sundar ji folded his hands after a while and said: “the five Paatshaahs before you were very calm and peaceful in nature. They would preach love to the Sikhs. They would give this wisdom and cut the pain and obstacles of everyone. You have started a new tradition. You have worn weapons and kept an army. This is the sign of conflict and fights. You battled the Turks in a big war. I have heard that Shah Jahan’s force came and you destroyed them all. You had prepared for your daughter’s wedding. All the items were looted and destroyed by the Turks. You let go of the previous traditions and love weapons and horses.” Guru Hargobind Sahib ji heard Baba Sundar ji and spoke to him with love: “I did everything by the command of Karta Purakh Akaal, the compassionate one. Whatever is his wish, is what happened. The Turks were supposed to be destroyed. They were not afraid of Akaal Purakh and did many acts of tyranny and sin. The earth could not tolerate the weight of their sins. The earth called out to Akaal Purakh to help her. I will now slowly destroy the kingdom of the Turks. This is why Guru Nanak Dev ji came. I will give this kingdom to my Sikhs. The Turks have become corrupt and so they need to be destroyed. Oh brother, this is the reason why I have kept weapons. This was the first battle in which I killed many Turks.” Baba Sundar ji heard this and bowed to Guru ji. Guru ji placed his hand on Baba Sundar ji’s head and said: “Guru Amardas ji was the greatest of greats. The Satguru destroyed attachment from the minds of his Sikhs. You are the grandson of his son. You are in a higher position than me.”
At that time, Baba Sundar ji’s mother came. She had great love and devotion in her heart for Guru ji. Her heart was drenched in love. Baba Sundar ji’s wife came along with her. Many other women came to visit Guru ji form the Bhalla family. The mother of Baba Sundar ji circumvented money over Guru ji’s head and gave it to the poor. She bowed to Guru ji after. She was Guru ji’s Chachi ji. She said: “please come inside into our home. Spend the night in peace. Our home is your home. Stay here without doubt. Stay here as long as you want.” Guru ji said: “that is true but my army is with me. I can’t leave them and go inside. By your blessing, I am in joy right here.” Chachi ji said: “you may stay here but please give the rest of the family permission to come inside. The 5 Sahibzadas and the 3 mothers should come inside. They can spend the night in peace and joy. The children should not stay outside.” Satguru ji spoke with love: “if this is what you wish, you can take them.” The mother of Baba Sundar ji heard this and met the family of Guru ji. The women of the Bhallas all came as well. Chachi ji told them that Guru ji gave the permission for them to come inside the home. The family then headed towards Chabarra Sahib.
Mata Damodri ji was the great granddaughter of Bhai Paro ji. She took Mata Marwahi ji and Mata Nanaki ji, along with the children, and went to the home. The beds had beautiful sheets on them. Everyone was seated with respect. The maids were given beds as well. Food was brought for everyone. Delicious foods were given to them with great respect. Everyone ate and then rested with great satiation. They slept on the beautiful beds. Chachi ji and the other women came to Mata Damodri ji and asked her about Amritsar. They asked about Bibi Veero ji’s wedding: “what happened at the wedding? You didn’t invite us to the wedding. You didn’t call any of the other relatives either. On top of that, a battle was fought, which was a big problem. The wedding had to happen somewhere else. We were all worried hearing this. You used to call us first for the weddings. Why didn’t you invite us?” Mata Damodri ji took a deep birth and told them her pain: “these great beings are not related to anyone. They do as they please. They see profit and loss as the same. They are not attached to the family. The other 5 Gurus were the same. They did not listen to their own families. They gave their throne to their servants. Guru ji called for the sweets made for the wedding for the Sikhs. I didn’t give the sweets and so Guru ji said a curse. He said: “the sweets will be eaten by the Turks.” The house was going to be destroyed, he didn’t think about that. Guru ji knows the past and future. He knew what was going to happen and so that’s why he didn’t call the family. He knew that there was going to be problems. He knew what was going to happen to the family. We had to leave. Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji saved us by placing his hand on our heads. We only took the people. We left everything. I asked him to invite the family but he would stay quiet. The Turks came at midnight, the night before the wedding. The poor Sikhs fought the battle. Many died. That night was scary. We had to leave at midnight. Oh friends, what can I say? We were taken out and sent to Chabaal overnight. Guru ji fought with the enemy after sending us off. For 9 hours, bullets and swords were used. Many died from both sides. Many thousands were in the Turk army which Guru ji killed. When it was afternoon, Guru ji came to Chabaal. The Bharaat was told to come to Chabaal instead of Amritsar. The Pheray happened at Bhai Langah’s place. From then on, we stayed one night at Taran Taaran and then came here.” Everyone heard this and were amazed. Baba Anand ji’s wife said: “it is good that all of you are safe. Money and material things come and go. They will accumulate again.” They all talked and spent the night. Everyone slept at 10 pm.
In the morning, Guru ji was sitting in his tent and eating. Listen to the continuation of this Katha with joy. One night was spent in battle and the second night was the wedding of Bibi Veero ji. Guru ji had not slept for 2 nights. Guru ji along with the army slept in Goindwal at night.
