5-26 Preparing for the Second Marriage

Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib ji was living in Sri Guru Ramdas ji’s city.  He was performing various blessings and handing out joy to many.  He practised Shastervidya continuously.  He personally trained the other warriors and vigorously trained himself.  He would practise while riding a horse as well.  He would practise his spear and marksman skills while riding.  He practised sword fighting and archery.  He would practise while on foot and on the horse.  He practised many types of strikes.  The warrior Sikhs practised with guns and arrows as well, showing Guru ji for appraisal.  This vidya was given to Guru ji by Baba Bhudda ji.  Baba Bhudda ji received Shastervidya from Guru Nanak Dev ji.  Guru Hargobind Sahib ji practised with the sword and shield.  He would practice ducking and pushing.  He taught the Sikhs as well.  He taught them how to do round strikes of the sword.  The Sikhs would be quick and agile.  This was the Akhara of strong warriors and wrestlers.  They used their skills and tried to win the opponents.  Agility was greatly residing in their feet and hands.  Guru ji would teach them marksman skills.  He would praise the ones that had good aim and swung the sword with skill.  The Sikhs would get Guru ji’s blessings in this way.  Where Akaali Phula Singh ji’s Burj stands today, is where Guru ji practised Shastervidya.  His glory spread to many lands.  His radiance grew by the day.  Guru ji would give money to the warriors as a reward.  The greatest warriors enlisted in Guru ji’s army.  They were experts in warfare.  Many Sikhs came to visit Guru ji from far away lands.  Great crowds would gather in Amritsar.  Guru ji would fulfill their wishes.  He would dispel everyone’s pain.  Guru ji would give his Darshan in the Divaan at Sri Akaal Takhat Sahib.  Guru ji would keep track of all the news regarding the warriors and horses.  He new what was going on everywhere.  He would keep track of all the Sikhs in far away lands with his divine vision and protect them as they needed to be protected.  Whoever thought of him as “Gareeb Nivaaj,” or call out to him, he would go to the Sikh to help them with his spirit.  There was no where he did not go.  He didn’t let his Sikhs be scared or be in trouble.

Sometimes, Guru ji would go hunting in the afternoon.  He would hunt for various animals.  Bullets would be fired.  Arrows would be released.  The noise would echo in the jungle.  There was Keertan all day.  Guru ji would bathe in the Amritsar Sarovar and then go to Harmandhir Sahib.  He would do 4 Parkarmas of Harmandhir Sahib and sit for a little while inside.  By staying for long periods of time in Harmandhir Sahib, there is disrespect in releasing the wastes of the body; so unless one was there to listen to Keertan, it was normal for people to sit for less periods of time inside the Harmandhir Sahib.  The wandering of the mind is not permitted there.  Guru ji would listen to 5 Shabads and leave.  He would sit near the edge of the Sarovar instead.  A big Divaan would be in progress in front of Akaal Takhat Sahib.  The front of Akaal Takhat Sahib would face East (sign of valour).  The entrance of Harmandhir Sahib faced west (sign of humility).  Guru ji would sit in Divaan till Evening.  Guru ji would then go home.

Mata Damodri ji would give food to Guru ji and do his Seva.  She wouldn’t let the maids serve him.  She wanted to do the Seva herself and give him food.  She would wash his hands with warm water.  She would wash his feet as well and wipe them with a towel.  She would fan him with a fan with her hands.  She would massage his feet after he would eat.  She did all the Seva of her husband.  She was of the family of Brahmgyaani Bhai Paro ji, whose soul immersed into Guru Amardas ji.  Mata Damodri ji obeyed the Guru Husband with strictness.

Guru ji would go to Mata Ganga ji to bow to her.  He would discuss the tasks of the Guru’s home with her.  Mata Ganga ji would look at her handsome son and be happy.  He was a strong warrior.  She would speak to him with love.

After some time, Mata Ganga ji started to think about Guru Arjan Dev ji’s words in Gurbani: “the strand has grown and the next generation will grow, the Dharma will grow.”  She thought to himself: “I need to have a grandson to make the family grow.  I want to see my grandson.  This wish is not fulfilled yet.  I won’t be at ease till I see my grandson.”  She thought like this for some days.  One day, she spoke to her son: “fulfill your father’s words.  He said words about growing the family.  I have faith on his words.  The family will grow and be radiant in the whole world.  I am worried though.  I want to see a grandson with my own eyes.  It’s a worldly want but I still want it.  You complete the wishes of all the Sikhs.  Why don’t you fulfill my wishes?  I want to see my grandson.  Make your family happy.”  Guru ji heard this and said: “the complete omnipotent Satguru ji will fulfill your wish.  You are the eldest.  Give a blessing with your mouth.  Bless the family so it grows.  You will have to give the blessings.  You will see the grandson.  Guru ji gives bliss and fulfills all the wishes.”  Mata Ganga ji was happy to hear this.  She had faith and knew she was going to see her grandson.  She heard her son’s words and knew that it was going to happen.  Her wish was going to be fulfilled.

Mata Damodri ji would serve Guru ji and be in bliss to see her husband.  Guru Nanak Dev ji blessed her womb with a great being.  She was pregnant with Baba Gurditta ji.  Her radiance grew like the moon from the 2nd day after new moon.  Everyone found out that Mata Damodri ji was pregnant.  Mata Ganga ji was very happy and had a great celebration.  The whole family was happy to hear this.  Mata Ganga ji took Mata Damodri ji to Harmandhir Sahib ji and had her bow there.  She made her fold her hands and bow.  Baba Bhudda ji did the Ardaas: “may the family of Guru Ramdas ji grow.  Your daughter-in-law has come for your blessing.  Fulfill her wishes, Guru Ramdas ji.  You are the master of your beloved Sikhs.  Give them a radiant son.  Fulfill your duty to your Sikhs.”  They all bowed after the Ardaas.  Prashaad was distributed.  The Parkarma was performed.  Mata ji took her daughter-in-law and came back home.  The fortunate women came home.  Mata ji waited to see her grandson.

Some days went by.  The letter of Guru Hargobind Sahib ji’s second marriage came from Baba Hari Chand ji.  He worshipped Guru Arjan Dev ji and was his devout Sikh.  He was to be Guru Hargobind Sahib ji’s father-in-law.  Both proposals were set the same day but Mata Nanaki ji was too young then.  It was when Chandoo’s daughter’s proposal was rejected.  Only Mata Damodri ji was married then.  The date of marriage was set now.  Now that Mata Nanaki ji was older, the letter came for her marriage to Guru ji: “the marriage will be on the first day of Vaisakh (April/May).”  Mata Ganga ji got the letter.  It was good news upon good news.  The radiance and wealth of the Guru’s home was growing.  Kings and Emperors were nothing in front of Guru ji’s wealth.  The Sikhs heard this news and started to celebrate.  They all came to give their congratulations to Mata Ganga ji.  Joy came from every direction.  Whatever was needed for the wedding, the stuff was collected from other cities as well as Amritsar.  Bhai Bidhi Chand ji was given money to get the stuff that was needed for the weeding.  Ghee and sugar were needed.  Bhai Jetha ji and other Sikhs got busy in the preparations.  Flour, sugar and other stuff was bought.  Ten times the amount was collected that was needed.  The Langar was the greatest expense.  Baba Bhudda ji supervised everything.  The Masands were given duties to shop.  Everything was collected in one area.  Invitations were sent to Khadoor Sahib, Goindwal Sahib, Lahore and other cities.  Everyone was happy to hear this.  Guru ji’s maternal grandparents were happy to hear the news.  They all said: “Guru Arjan Dev ji’s son is great and radiant.  His glories are sung by all.  The wealth is growing like great kings.  The army has grown to the extent of great emperors.  Guru ji is getting married a second time like kings.  Emperors bow to Guru ji and worship his feet.  The task of bringing the Qazi’s daughter, the Emperor didn’t see that as good but stayed quiet on the matter.  He respected Guru ji and so he didn’t say anything.  Guru ji was radiant and great.  Everyone fears him.”

5-27 Bharaat

The relatives were happy and looking forward to the wedding.  Everyone got ready to come to Amritsar.  They all laughed and rejoiced with each other.  Sikhs were happy that it was Vaisakhi and that it was Guru ji’s wedding on top of that.  The Sikhs were all going to come to Amritsar to bathe in the Sarovar for Vaisakhi.  The family was looking to seeing the rest of the family.  A lot of people hadn’t seen Guru Hargobind Sahib ji for a while, so they were eager to meet him as well.  Jahangir had kept Guru ji occupied and kept him with him.  Guru ji wasn’t in his home for a while.  Chandoo had been killed.  The Badshah listened to Guru ji.  Guru ji was well skilled with Shastervidya.  People praised Guru ji everywhere.  As people talked to each other, everyone was getting more excited to see Guru ji and attend his wedding.  The family began to gather in Amritsar: the Bhallas from Goindwal came with all the men and women; the Trehans from Khadoor came; Mata Ganga ji’s parents from Mao village came; the Sodhis of Lahore came to see the beautiful wedding.  Everyone was happy to see each other.  Men and women, all came to see Guru ji.  They all got together and sang songs of celebration.  They celebrated according to the traditions of the time for weddings.  The Naubats and Shehnais were being played.  There was a great celebration.  Sangat from every direction came when they heard about the wedding.  There was a great crowd in Amritsar.  Everyone wanted to see the celebrations of the wedding.  Countless gifts gathered.  Baba Bhudda ji and the Masand made preparations.

Guru ji would sit at Akaal Takhat and give his Darshan.  He looked like the sun, illuminating everything.  His servants and Sikhs were happy to see Guru ji.  Their hearts were like the lotus blooming while seeing the sun.  Just as the Chakva and Chakvi see the sun with joy, all four castes were looking at Guru ji with great joy.  The haters of the Guru hid; like the owl hiding from the sun.  The darkness was gone.  Great Divaans would be in progress.  Rugs and tarps were laid out for the Sangat.  The rugs had golden thread-work on them.  A huge fan was waived over Guru ji.  The fan had gold-work on it that looked like the sun was going up and down as it was waved.  Sikhs came and bowed to Guru ji.  4 Chaurs were waved over Guru ji’s head.  Sikhs came and did their Ardaas while placing their gifts and offerings in front of Guru ji.  The warriors carried swords and shields.  They were strong due to Guru ji’s radiance.  Guru ji was like the lion sitting on the Takhat.  The people came to bow with faith and devotion.  The Bedis, Trehans and Bhallas arrived.  They bowed to Guru ji as well.  There are many that came, it is hard to mention them all.  It was like the Royal court.  A lot of money was coming and being spent on Langar and other needs for the Sangat.

The day of the wedding came close.  A day before the Bharaat, Guru ji was in his home.  The Vatna was rubbed on Guru ji by the aunts, cousins and other women of the family.  The women were wearing expensive clothes and jewellery.  They sang songs and teased Guru ji as they performed the Vatna ceremony.  Mata Damodri ji and her friends sang songs as well.  Guru Hargobind Sahib ji bathed and wore yellow clothes.  Guru ji looked very radiant.  It was like all of the beauty of the universe was illuminating from Guru ji’s body.  He was very attractive.  He wore jewellery with precious gems.  Guru ji would steal the hearts, whom he would look at.  He wore golden bracelets in his wrists.  Baba Bhudda ji, the Masands, Bedis, Trehans, Bhallas and the Sodhis got ready for the Bharaat.  The senior Sikhs from around the world came.

The Bharaat got ready.  Everyone went inside the Harmandhir Sahib to bow.  After bowing, Guru ji got on top of his horse.  The Nagaras sounded, flutes, Shehnais and other instruments sounded.  The warriors had rifles in their hands and fired them as a mark of respect for Guru ji as they started off.  The clouds were ashamed hearing the sounds of the Nagaras.  The horseshoes made noise as the Bharaat left.

Baba Hari Chand ji, the fortunate one, was waiting near the place where Baba Bakala is today.  He was waiting with his Khatri clan.  They were gathered in one place, waiting for the Bharat.  As the Bharaat came, they showered money over them and gave it to the poor.  The poor were happy to receive the money.  The Bhallas and Trehans also donated to the poor.  The poor didn’t need to beg anymore.  Baba Hari Chand ji came forward to do the Milni with money and clothes.  Guru ji thought to himself: “Baba Bhudda ji should do the Milni of the fathers.”  Guru ji asked Baba Bhudda ji to do the Milni with Baba Hari Chand ji.  The family traditions were performed.  Baba Hari Chand ji came back to the place where the wedding was to take place.  Thousands came to the wedding.  There was a great crowd at Baba Hari Chand ji’s home.  The groom Guru was on his horse as he rode through the city.  The people looked at Guru ji through the windows.  Guru ji came to the door of the home of Baba Hari Chand ji.  The traditions were done of singing Ghoriya.  The Bharaat settled and found places to set up their camps.

There was a great crowd in the city.  Everyone came to bow to Guru ji as he had come to the village as the groom.  Whoever came to do Ardaas, their wishes were fulfilled.  Beggars came and got a lot of money.  The Masands were given permission to give money to the poor and the artists that came to perform.  Many types of instruments were being played.  The day was over and the darkness of the evening fell.  The torches were lit.  Fireworks were done as though inviting the Devatas.  Baba Hari Chand ji quickly sent people: “it is the Dhenu Dhool time.  It is an auspicious time.  It is time to do the marriage.”  The instruments and Nagaras were played all at once.  It was the time for the wedding.  Satguru ji proceeded with the Bharaat.  The Masands came as well.  Everyone sat near the Vedi for the wedding.  The Brahmins preformed all of the Poojas for the wedding.  They asked for the offerings and were given a lot of money.  Ghee was put on the Vedi with long ladles.  The fire illuminated the area.

Baba Hari Chand ji came with his daughter.  She was seated next to Guru ji.  The Laavan were performed around the Vedi.  The other traditions were carried out.  Mata Nanaki ji was married to Guru Hargobind Sahib ji.  Guru ji then came back to his Dhera after the wedding.  Many Sikhs were sitting there and congratulating him.  The food was ready.  Guru ji and the Bharaat came to the place to eat.  Fireworks were set off, signalling the Devatas that the wedding was done.  Many other celebrations were done.  People were amazed to see all this.  They all came to Baba Hari Chand ji’s home.  Guru ji was seated on a high stool.  Others were seated as well.  Many types of delicacies were prepared and prepared in big plates.  Dry fruits were mixed in the food.  The food was delicious.  As they ate, the women sat and sang songs of celebration.  Everyone enjoyed the celebration with Guru ji as they ate.  Guru ji placed money into the plates for the dishwashers.  Guru ji and the Bharaat stayed here for 3 days.  Everyone washed their hands after.  There was a bed laid out for the dowry.  The jewellery was placed on it along with pots and pans, whatever Baba Hari Chand ji could afford to give.  He then folded his hands along with his wife, Mata Hardai ji, and said: “whatever wealth that has been given to us by Guru ji, we are only consuming that.  There is no one more generous than you.  My daughter is your maid.  She will serve you.”  They then bowed to Guru ji.

The Dholi ceremony was next.  Mata Hardai ji and other women cried and hugged Mata Nanaki ji as she was being sent off.  Guru ji along with the Sikhs, left the city and came back to Amritsar.

5-28 The condition of Sri Nanak Matta

When Mata Ganga ji heard that her son was coming back with his new bride, she took everyone in the Bharaat to Sri Harmandhir Sahib.  She folded her hands and bowed.  The Parkarma was done and Mata ji asked for peace.  She then brought her son and new daughter-in-law home.  At home, the family traditions were performed.  She took money and circumvented it around the heads of her son and daughter-in-law.  She then gave it to the poor.  Everyone in the city came to see Guru ji and his new bride.  Guru ji was wearing beautiful yellow clothes.  Sikhs from far away lands came to see Guru ji.  Their wishes were all fulfilled by seeing Guru ji.  The Sikhs that think of Guru Hargobind Sahib ji’s form with the Kesri chola, why wouldn’t their wishes be fulfilled?  The Guru lives in their hearts.  Mata Ganga ji circumvented water over her son’s head and drank it.  They all went inside the home.  They were seated inside the house.  Her name was Nanaki and she was beautiful.  She was the most fortunate.  Guru Tegh Bahadhur ji was her son and Guru Gobind Singh ji was her grandson.  Guru Gobind Singh ji, the powerful one, who gave his servants the kingdom of the earth.  He destroyed the rule of the Turks.  Mata Nanaki ji lived a long life.  She did Darshan of her grandson.  The women of the Trehans and Bhallas came to see Mata Nanaki ji.  They praised her beauty.  They all stayed together for a few days and then went home.  Mata Damodri ji’s parents completed the traditions of the time.  The family from Goindwal and Khadoor were given leave.  The Sangat that came for the celebration, they received Siropas and went to their homes.  They sang the Guru’s praises as they left: “this Guru ji is different then the first 5 Gurus.  He wears the Meeree and Peeree.  His wealth grows like Emperors.  He has a great radiance and command.  He sits on a throne like a king.”  In this way, the wedding of Guru ji and Mata Nanaki ji was celebrated.  It has been stated in short.

Guru Hargobind Sahib ji spent some time in Amritsar after his second wedding.  The fortunate Sikhs came and were given wisdom by Guru ji.  They received the Gyaan and achieved Mukti.  Whoever came to Guru ji’s feet, they received Mukti.

Let me know tell you the Katha of Sri Nanak Matta.  There was a wise Sikh who was an Udaasi Sadhoo named Baba Almast ji.  He was travelling East and visited all the Teeraths.  He bathed at the Teeraths.  He reached Sri Nanak Matta and bowed there.  Guru Nanak Dev ji’s Aasan was made there.  Guru Nanak Dev ji’s power can be seen here.  Guru ji stopped a Pippal tree there.  The Reeta Sahib tree was close by as well.  The disciples of Gorakh Nath were living there.  They made themselves popular there and disrespected the place of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  They spoke bad about Guru Nanak Dev ji and praised Gorakh Nath.  The Sikh was upset to hear this.  He couldn’t tolerate this.  He began to live there and did the Seva of the place in many ways.  He lit a Diva every night.  In the morning, he bathed and did Simran of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib ji.  He would clean the Aasan of Guru Nanak Dev ji and place flowers and incense there.  He would worship the place.  The Sidhs of the area would see Baba Almast ji and become jealous of him.  They came and argued with him: “leave this place!”  They would argue everyday.  They saw him alone and tried to use their force on him.  They said: “there is no other Sikh nearby.  Let’s kick him out of here and take over.  This is our place.  Gorakh Nath has done Tapasya here.  Guru Nanak Dev ji came here to meet Gorakh Nath.  He stayed here for 2 or 3 days.  He came as a visitor.  That doesn’t make him the owner of this place.  The Sidhs have lived here for a while.  How can you say this is your Guru’s place?  The name of this place is “Gorakh Matta.”  The Sikhs said: “there are two trees here which shows Guru Nanak Dev ji’s power.  This is Guru Nanak Dev ji’s place.  The Sikhs come and do Pooja here.  The symbols on the trees are a sign that this place is Guru Nanak Dev ji’s.  I will show you if you can’t see the signs.  The Pippal shows Guru Nanak Dev ji’s hand print.  The Reeta tree has sweet fruits on it, where Guru Nanak Dev ji sat a little distance from here.  The fruits in the directions of the Sidhs are bitter.  The following of the Sidhs was lowered then.  I have heard the great Katha of Guru Nanak Dev ji with love.  Guru ji destroyed the pride of the Sidhs.  I won’t leave the place of Guru ji.  I will use my power to turn you around.  Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib ji sits on the throne of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  He wears the Meeree and Peeree.  He is the punisher.  He is powerful.  Whoever remembers him, he comes to help them.  He is the one to make Sikhi grow.  The complete omnipotent Guru’s hand is on my head.  He will come immediately to help me.  The Guru is always with me.  I meditate on my Guru.”  The earring wearing Jogis heard this and got angry.  They said: “let’s see what your Guru can do.  We will burn the Pippal tree that you talk about.  Nobody will be able to see the signs of your Guru’s hand.”  The Sidhs gathered firewood and burnt the Pippal tree.  When the tree burned, Baba Almast ji was upset and set: “the Sidhs with Gorakh Nath tried to make this Pippal fly.  Guru Nanak Dev ji stopped it and kept it.  The Sidhs lost.  Guru ji will still help me.  He will come here.  I will get this place.  You have committed blasphemy.  You are causing your own destruction.”  They fought some more.

Baba Almast ji left the area and sat down at another place.  He did Simran of Guru Hargobind Sahib ji: “Sri Guru Hargobind ji, help me.  Protect me like you protect your Sikhs.  You are omniscient and know every heart.  You are the master of the universe.  The Sikhs who are in trouble remember you.  They have faith and devotion on you.  I am in trouble.  The Jogis took the place of Guru Nanak Dev ji from me.  You are very far from here.  Without you coming, this place will not be free.  Your servants trust you.  If you don’t come, the Sikhs will lose faith.  You are the protector of your servants.”  In this way Baba Almast ji prayed everyday.  He didn’t eat much.  He stayed outside and took the sun and rain.  He bathed everyday and sat in Simran.  He had great love for Guru ji.  He thought of Guru ji in his heart.  Sri Guru Hargobind ji understood everything.  He was bound by Baba Almast ji’s love.  Guru ji got restless and wanted to go to his Sikh.  He wasn’t going to be calm till he would meet his Sikh.  Guru ji thought: “I can’t go alone.  Otherwise I would have gone in a second.  I need to take my warriors with me and save the Sikh.”  Guru ji thought in this way and wanted to go to Sri Nanak Matta.  Baba Almast ji was persistent in his prayer.  Guru ji had another Sikh named Bhai Sai Das ji calling him at the same time.

5-29 Daroli/ Bhai Sai Das/ Bibi Ramo

Mata Damodri ji was from the Dhalla village.  Her parent’s home was there.  She had an elder sister named Bibi Ramo ji.  She was a great Bhagatani.  The name of her husband was Bhai Sai Das ji.  He lived in Daroli but spent most of his time in Dhalla because there was so much Sat Sang there.  They did a lot of Simran of Satnam.  The Dhalla village had 72 Brahmgyaanis at one time by the grace of the Satguru.  Many people started to live the Gurmat lifestyle seeing the Gursikhs of this village.  Bhai Sai Das was influenced by the good Gursikhs and had become Guru Arjan Dev ji’s Sikh.  He became full of virtues and earned Sikhi.  He had deep faith and devotion.  He did Bhagti of Guru ji.  He did Simran of Guru ji in his home.  All you could hear was Satnam in his home.  When he became a Sikh, he became the relative of the Guru as his sister-in-law had become engaged to Guru ji.  He was happy to hear this.  He came to live in Daroli and would come to Amritsar to see Guru ji.  Bhai Paro ji, Param hans, Jhulka, Bibi Ramo ji and Mata Damodri ji were his direct descendants.  They understood Gurmat well.  Bibi Ramo ji knew all the Sikh traditions as her parents were great Gursikhs.  Her mind only knew Gursikhi.  Her parents were great Gursikhs, why wouldn’t their children be good Gursikhs?  Bibi Ramo ji did Simran of Satguru ji while she did her household work.  She had love for the Guru in her heart.  Both wife and husband did Simran.  Their minds had become pure.  They washed the filth of their minds.  Every time there was a special day, Vaisakhi or Diwali, they would come to Amritsar and meet Guru ji.  They would feel happy seeing Guru ji.

Bhai Sai Das ji’s house had become old.  They had it demolished and rebuilt.  He spent a lot of money.  It was beautiful.  The labourers did a lot of craftwork there.  Bhai Sai Das ji said: “don’t leave any detail.”  They didn’t want to live there though.  They said to each other: “Guru ji gave us this house.  Guru ji should come here first.  Then we will live here.  It is not right for us to live here before Guru ji comes.”  In this way, they were determined not to live there till Guru ji would come.  Bhai Sai Das ji had a big door built in the front.  The door was more than 7 feet because Guru ji was so tall.  He didn’t want Guru ji to bend while entering the home.  They had the door locked up, which was considered bad luck at that time but they wanted Guru ji to go in before anyone else.  They had faith that Guru ji would fulfill their wish.  They had prepared all the things needed in a household such as a bed for Guru ji to sit and dishes for Guru ji to eat from.  Bhai Sai Das ji spent a lot of money on the bed for Guru ji.  They placed everything in the house before locking up the house.  As they prepared everything, the love in their hearts grew.  The longing to see the Guru got deeper.  The couple didn’t like anything besides Guru ji.  They didn’t like the material things in the home.  They waited for Guru ji: “when will Guru ji come?  They would talk about Guru ji.  They would talk about his praises to each other.  Many days had passed but Satguru ji had not come.  Their hearts burned as they wanted to see Guru ji: “why hasn’t Satguru ji come yet?  He is omniscient.  He is the master of the 14 dimensions.  Did he not hear our hearts?  We are the chakors, wanting to see the moon.  When will the sun Guru come and make our lotus heart bloom?  We are the Chatrik, longing for the Swanti drop.  We are drying up like a dry tree.  When will he come as a cloud and rain upon us?  When will we see his feet?  When will we be really happy?  He will calm our hearts.  He hasn’t come yet.  We are unfortunate.  We probably don’t have enough love for the Guru.  We have heard that Guru ji comes quickly when someone loves him; just as water goes towards the declining grade.”

After a few days, Bibi Ramo ji said to her husband: “let’s go to Amritsar and bring Guru ji here.  We will humbly ask him to come.  We will bring him here for sure and fulfil our wish.”  Bhai Sai Das ji said: “listen, you are silly.  This is not good what you said.  Guru ji is omniscient.  Only the unwise speak like this.  The Guru is the complete Purakh.  He is omnipotent and omniscient.  He knows everything.  He is gracious.  He knows every heart.  We will continue to call out to him.  He can hear us.  We won’t go.  We will stay here and sing his praises.  He will look towards us one day.  He will fulfill our wishes.”  Bhai Sai Das ji was full of faith and love.  He wanted Guru ji to come to his come.  He didn’t want to say it to him either.  He thought of Guru ji while standing, sitting, sleeping and awake.  He kept looking towards the road that came into the village; to see if Guru ji had arrived.  He thought to himself: “Guru ji will come with my sister-in-law, Mata Damodri ji.”

After a few days, Bibi Ramo ji said: “if you don’t want to go to Amritsar, then we should write him a letter.  He will write back to us and tell us if he wants to come or not.  Do what you want after that.”  Bhai Sai Das ji shed tears and spoke in love: “my wise sweet, my Guru knows everything.  I am determined to sit here and think of him.  He will come here.  Our Desh will be blessed.  People will become Sikhs of this area.  I will do his Simran day and night.  I won’t go to Amritsar to get him nor write him a letter.  He will see my love and come himself.  He will bless this Desh.  Many will become his Sikhs.  I won’t write to him nor will I go to Amritsar to get him.  I will do his Simran, day and night.  He will come himself and fulfill my wish.  He will see my love and fulfill my ask.”  Bhai Sai Das ji kept waiting for Guru ji.  He collected all the feed for the horses and food for the other Sikhs.  He wanted to do all of the Seva for Guru ji.  He made preparations for Guru ji, whenever he was to come.  He prepared clothes and jewellery for Guru ji.  He collected the stuff and kept it in his home: “Guru ji will come any day now and sit in my house.  I will be fortunate that day, when Guru ji comes.  When the master becomes gracious unto me, coming with his family, he will see the state I’m in.  Guru ji will come from Amritsar and bless my new home and the bed I made for him.  I will fold my hands and stand ready for his Seva.  I will do what he would say.”  Bhai Sai Das ji only thought of Guru ji and didn’t think of the worldly tasks.

Guru Hargobind Sahib ji, the wise, knew of the love of Baba Almast ji and Bhai Sai das ji.  He was being pulled by both Sikhs.  The Sadhoo of Nanak Matta was remembering Guru ji, who was disrespected by the Sidhs.  On the other side, Bhai Sai Das ji of Daroli wanted Guru ji to come to his home.  Guru ji was being pulled from both sides by the ropes of love.  The Gareeb Nivaaj had to keep his promise to complete the tasks of his servants.  Guru ji thought of going to Daroli with his family.  Baba Almast ji wanted to win the Sidhs and free the place of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  Guru ji thought of what was the best thing to do.  He understood everything and did what was the best thing.  He also wanted to go to Nanak Matta.

5-30 Mata Ganga ji comes to Daroli

Guru Hargobind Sahib ji was sitting alone when Mata Damodri ji came and sat next to him.  Guru ji told her the state of her sister Bibi Ramo ji: “Bhai Sai Das has constructed a beautiful new home.  When they saw it as really beautiful, they wanted to have me come there along with you.  That is why they haven’t come to Amritsar for a while now.  They want me to come there first.  The couple is doing Simran like chatriks.  They are thinking of me day and night.  Tell me, what is your suggestion?  How should we go and fulfil their wish?”  Mata ji heard her sister’s state and spoke enthusiastically: “you heard my heart’s wish.  I was wondering why my sister hadn’t come to see me for so long.  Bhai Sai Das ji is her great husband.  If this is what they desire; both are doing Simran for this reason with humility, since you are bounded to your Sikhs’ love, then it is according to your promise to go there.  They are your servants and they are your family.  Oh master, we should go at once!  Complete their wishes.  I haven’t seen them for a long time.  I wish to see them.”  Guru ji said: “make preparations to go to Daroli.  Let’s leave as soon as we can.  My heart is in pain by their longing.  I need to relieve their pain.  I can’t tolerate this.  Their love is pulling me.  I will go, like a sand wall being eroded by water.”

Guru ji went to Mata Ganga ji and told her the state of Bhai Sai Das ji and Baba Almast ji: “I need to go to Nanak Matta.  A Sadhoo is thinking of me who is being disturbed by earring-wearing Jogis.  They bother him because he is alone.  They quarrel with him.  The Sadhoo is just doing Simran.  The Jogis weren’t afraid of me and instead they burned the pipal of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  I need to free the place from the Jogis and help my Sikh.  I need to go quick.  The other situation is about your daughter-in-law’s sister and brother-in-law.  Both wife and husband are doing Simran of me.  They have built a new home and want me to go there before they go into the house.  They are doing my Simran, day and night.”  Mata ji heard this and said: “the journey to Nanak Matta is long.  It is in the far east, but you need to go.  You need to punish them.  Going to Daroli for love is important as well.  You are omnipotent.  Do as you please and go where you want to go first.”  Guru ji heard this and said: “this is what I have planned: you should take your daughters-in-law and go to Daroli and give hope to Bhai Sai Das.  Go and stay there along with your servants and maids.  Take 25 mounted warriors as well.  Take carts and load them with the stuff you need.  Go to Daroli slowly and wait for me in peace.  I will come soon to Daroli after.  It will be blissful for all.  Bhai Sai Das will be in bliss.”  In this way Guru ji had a discussion with his mother.

Guru ji came and went to his court.  Baba Buddha ji and other Masands were sitting in the Divaan.  Guru ji told them what his plan was.  Guru ji always consulted with Baba Bhudda ji and Bhai Gurdas ji.  He said: “it is important for me to go.  I have thought about this deeply.”  Everyone got anxious knowing that Guru ji was leaving.  They all stated their feelings.  Guru ji gave them hope and told them that he will be back soon.

Mata Ganga ji made preparations to go.  The women of Amritsar found out about Mata ji leaving and came to meet her.  They brought gifts for her and said: “please come back quickly.  Think of us.  You are our master as well as Guru ji.  We will feel like orphans while you are all gone.  You are our protector.  Who else would look over us?  Don’t be long.”  Mata ji gave them hope and said: “the protector of this city is Guru Ramdas ji.  Go to Harmandhir Sahib everyday to worship the Guru.  The Guru’s Jot is inside Harmandhir Sahib ji.”  The women all bowed to Mata ji and came back to their homes.  Mata Ganga ji went to the Amritsar Sarovar and bathed.  She bowed at the Darshani Deodi and went to Harmandhir Sahib with both of her Daughters-in-law.  She did Ardaas to Guru Granth Sahib ji: “you are the Jot.  Please protect us, everywhere.”  They folded their hands and bowed.  They did Parkarma of Harmandhir Sahib and the Sarovar.  They kept looking towards Harmandhir Sahib and bowed.  Mata Ganga ji got on top of her chariot.  The charioteer signalled the horses to move.  Mata Damodri ji and Mata Nanaki ji mounted palanquins and headed south.  The maids and the servants got on top of carts and gathered all the items of need.  The warriors with weapons mounted their horses and went with the travel party.  Many Sikhs came along to do Seva with joy.  They slowly travelled and soon reached Sri Taran Taaran Sahib.  They set up camp at night.

They all woke up at Amritvela and bathed in the Sarovar, thinking of Guru Arjan Dev ji.  They did Parkarma and Ardaas.  They then continued their travels and reached close to Daroli.  A messenger was sent on ahead.  He met Bhai Sai Das ji and said: “Mata ji is coming.”  Bhai Sai Das ji heard this and was happy.  He was like a dry tree getting water; like fish getting water from rain in a drying pond; like peacocks hearing the clouds thunder.  Bhai Sai Das ji went to his wife and said: “Guru ji’s mother is coming!  She brought her daughters-in-law.  He has blessed us.”  Bibi Ramo ji said: “is Satguru ji coming too?”  Bhai Sai Das ji said: “listen my love, Guru ji will fulfill our wish.  He will come.  He has to go to Nanak Matta first as there is a Sikh who is calling out to him as well.  He is just like us, calling out to Guru ji.  Guru ji is under the spell of love.  He is helpless in front of love.  He has gone to protect his Sikh in Nanak Mata.  When he is done blessing that Sikh, he will come here.  He will complete my wish.  He is omniscient and complete.  I wanted his family to come and therefore he sent them first.  I didn’t need to send any letter.  He knew what I wanted.  Get up and receive his family now!  Let’s welcome them!  We will bow to them and make our birth a success.  Our sins will be washed away.”  They made sweet Prashaad and set off to receive them with bare feet.

The couple travelled ahead and met Mata Ganga ji.  They bowed to Mata ji and received her blessings.  Mata Ganga ji said: “how are you and the family?”  The couple responded: “we are well by your blessings.  Meeting you, our bliss has grown.”  They were happy like Chakors looking at the moon.  Bibi Ramo ji ran to meet her younger sister, Mata Damodri ji.  Bibi Ramo ji, wanting to bow to her sister’s feet, bent down.  Mata Damodri ji stopped her and said: “Bhain ji, you are my elder sister.  You should not bow to me.”  Bibi Ramo ji said: “you are fortunate.  You are the wife of the master of the world.  You are worship-worthy in the 14 dimensions.  You are the mother of the universe.”  Bibi Ramo ji then went to meet Mata Nanaki ji.  She bowed to her feet and hugged her with love.  They both asked how they were.  She respected them and took them towards their home.  They came to their home with joy.  Everyone set up their camps and settled the bulls and horses.

The two wives of Guru ji along with Mata Ganga ji, came into the new house of Bhai Sai Das ji and Bibi Ramo ji.  The lock was opened and everyone went inside.  Bhai Sai Das ji and Bibi Ramo ji served everyone.  The animals were given feed.  Grass and grains were already collected.  Bhai Sai Das ji said: “I had prepared for this a long time ago.”  Many types of foods were prepared for everyone with love.  They served everyone by saying sweet words.
