3-1 Manglacharan

Oh River Sarasvati, flow fast so that the waves of the words come with the thought.  Bless me so I may make the right decisions.

The master of the Devatas and the Demons, the one who sustains the unconscious, the supreme master who listens to the servants, you cannot be understood.  The Munis, Shaishnaag and Sarasvati call you “the indestructible one.”  Oh mind, don’t try to describe the Akaal, see Akaal as beautiful and be humble.  You shall be blessed in this way.  Seeking the protection of the Prabhoo, the desires and vices are all gone.  Saying the name makes the attachment go away.  The mind becomes still and there are no more births.  Bow to the feet of Guru Nanak, who is the savior.

I bow to Guru Angad Dev ji, the illuminator, the destroyer of problems.

I do Simran of Guru Amardas ji, who destroys all the desires.

I bow to Guru Ramdas ji who is Akaal Purakh that helped Ram Chander.

I bow to Guru Arjan, whose words are sharp like Arjan’s arrows, the son of Kunti.

I bow to Guru Hargobind ji.  If one drinks the water that he touches, one is blessed.

I bow to Guru Har Rai ji, the master of the universe, the giver of peace.

I bow to Guru Har Krishan ji, the form of Vahiguru, the one of softens the blackest of hearts.  The vices are purges by doing his Simran.

Guru Tegh Bahadhur ji makes the enemy worry but protects his servants.  His Bani is like a sword for the sinners.

Guru Gobind Singh ji is the lion that killed the deer-like vices.  He is all-powerful, the master of the Khalsa Lions.  I do Simran of his name.

The Third Raas now begins by singing the praises of the Satguru.  The Satguru destroys all my problems.

As the Singhs listened to the Katha from Bhai Ram Koer ji, they listened with love and shed tears from their eyes.  They couldn’t get enough of the Katha that Bhai Ram Koer ji said.  They wanted to hear more from him.  Bhai Ram Koer ji’s face was like the moon.  Just as Amrit drips from the moon, that is how Amrit came from Bhai Ram Koer ji’s mouth.  This Katha had the great virtues of Sat, Santokh, Daya and others.  The ones who heard this Katha did not go to the Jumms.  Speaking and listening to this Katha was full of many rewards.  Whoever made this Katha reside in their hearts were blessed.  The Khalsa wished to listen to this Katha everyday.  They heard with a still mind, surrounding Baba Ram Koer ji, Baba Buddha ji’s 7th generation.  He anointed Guru Gobind Singh ji with the Guru Tilak.  Baba Ram Koer ji was like the mountain of Himalaya.  Just as the river Ganga comes from the mountain, that is how the Ganga of the Katha came from his mouth.  The river has water, the praise of the Guru is the river full of love.  The river flows and wears down the shores.  This Katha wears down atheism and doubt, the reasons for pain.  Just as thorns and bushes grow on the shores, the vices of desire and jealousy grow on the banks of atheism and doubt.  Theses bushes and thorns are all taken down with the flow of the Katha.  When one reads and listens to this Katha, the roots of the vices are pulled.  Just as lotus flowers grow in the water, the virtues grow when listening to this Katha.  The Saints fly like bees around this Katha.  The Singhs listen to this Katha and stay alive like fish in the water.  The Singhs love to listen to this katha all the time.  The 10 Gurus are the 10 Ghats of this Katha.  The thirsty and hurt people drink this Katha.  The ones who drink this katha of praise become calm.  Their desires are extinguished and do not feel the scorching heat.  The ones who listen with love, Baba Ram Koer is the gardener who sang the praises for them, he planted this garden for them.  The chapters of this katha are the plants of the garden.  The Chands are the branches.  The lines are the leaves.  The virtues are the flowers.  The meanings of this Katha are the fruits.  There are many pleasures in this katha which is the shade.  Baba Ram Koer ji put love into this Katha.  The attachment does not come near.  The ones who heard this Katha, they received the fragrance of Mukti.

The listeners said to Baba Ram Koer ji by folding their hands with humility: “Baba ji, please tell us the Katha of the birth of Guru Hargobind Sahib ji.  You are omniscient.  Tell us his Katha of how Mata Ganga Ji gave birth to Guru Hargobind ji.”  Baba Ram Koer Sahib ji said: “I will tell you his full Katha.  Listen with great attention:

Wherever there is Sikhi in the world, the glory of Guru Arjan Dev ji spread like the moonlight.  When the glory of Amritsar spread, many Sikhs came to bring gifts for Guru ji.  All of the Sikhs came.  No one stayed back.  Guru Arjan Dev ji sat in the Sangat in the middle, seated on his throne.  He was the light of Akaal Purakh.  He gave bliss to anyone who came to him.  He wiped their troubles away; their pain was gone.  Some Sikhs lived with Guru ji and were saved from the Jumms.  The Sikhs achieved many virtues by denouncing announcement.

Some Sangat goes to Baba Prithi Chand and Baba Mahadev as they did receive blessings from Guru Ramdas ji.  The powers although, were with Guru Arjan Dev ji.  Prithi Chand was always jealous of Guru Arjan Dev ji, his younger brother.  A lot of money would come to Guru Arjan Dev ji.  Many expensive gifts would come to Guru ji.  Prithi Chand was jealous of Guru Arjan Dev ji.  He would see him as his younger brother and being more successful than him.

After a few years of Guru ji on the throne, a lot of Sangat came on Vaisakhi.  The Sangat came for afar.  They came to see the Sarovar and bathe in it on Vaisakhi.  They brought a lot of money and gifts.  Guru ji sat in the Divaan as the Sangat did their Ardaas, just as Krishan ji met his followers in his court.  The Sikhs placed their offerings and asked for blessings.  They left with many blessings.  One Sikh came and brought a lot of jewellery for Mata Ganga ji.  He also brought expensive clothes and said to Guru ji: “Guru ji, these gifts are for Mata ji.  This is my wish that she accepts all this.  I would be happy if she wears all this jewellery and clothes.”  Guru ji sent the gold and clothes to his home.  Mata Ganga ji wore the gold and clothes and was very happy with them.  Mata Ganga ji was young and beautiful.  She looked even more pretty wearing these clothes.

The Sangat that came, they were given Siropas and blessings.  Some were given great blessings such as wealth and children; some wanted Mukti.  The desireless ones asked for Satnam and the company of Guru ji in the afterlife.  Guru ji gave those people the blessing of not forgetting Satnam; and to some the great Gyaan of the Aatma.  Many types of wishes were fulfilled by Guru ji.  The Sikhs returned home and sung the praises of Guru ji.  They would tell their families and friends about Guru ji: “he has a glorious, handsome and calm appearance.  There is no one more generous than him.  He is the son of Guru Ramdas ji, his glories cannot be counted.  He is the form of Akaal Purakh.  Guru ji makes his Sikhs fearless and without hatred.”  Guru ji returned to his home, “Guru ke Mahal,” after giving leave to the Sikhs.  Mata Ganga ji saw him come in and stood up.  She bowed to Guru ji and said to Guru ji: “where did this beautiful jewellery and clothes come from?  They are rare and expensive.  The Sikh seems to be from a foreign land.  He gave you this with devotion.  This is your glory.”  Guru Arjan Dev ji listened to Mata Ganga ji, his wife, and said: “Guru Nanak Ji is the greatest.  It is his glory that is spread throughout the world.  He came in the severe time of Kaliyuga.  He planted the plant of Sikhi.  The poison of the vices was gone by the name of Satnam.  The Sikhs come from afar and bring lovely gifts.  Their wishes are fulfilled by Guru Nanak Dev ji’s blessings.  It is because of Guru Nanak Dev ji that the Sikhs bow and bring gifts.  Nice clothes, pearls, gold and other things are because of Guru Nanak Dev ji.”  Mata ji heard the glory of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  She listened with faith and devotion.  She folded her hands and bowed her head in remembrance of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  In Ramdaspur, Guru Arjan Dev ji and Mata Ganga ji spent time.  Many Sikhs and servants did Seva.  Mata ji did Seva in the Langar as well.  Clothes of Pashmina and silk, Mataji would wear those clothes sometimes.  Most of her time was spent in the Langar, so she only wore them sometimes.  The maids would keep her clothes and gold in wooden chests.  The servants would say: “these clothes are expensive.”

The rainy months came and the black clouds of Saavan (July) rolled in.  On the days that the sun came out, the maids took out Mata ji’s clothes and put them out on the roof to make sure they don’t stay damp in the chests.  They took out the Pashmina and zarri clothes to hang them out in the sun.  They were hanging out on the roof and some maids sat close by to make sure the clothes don’t get blown away by the wind.  The people who were passing by saw the clothes.  The clothes were shining and reflecting the sun’s rays.  Everyone appreciated the clothes and the Sikh that brought them.  Prithi Chand’s servants caught sight of the clothes.  She was a jealous one and went to Prithi Chand’s home and told Prithi Chand’s wife, Karmo, about the clothes: your sister-in-law’s clothes are out on the roof.  I was amazed to see the clothes.  They are very expensive from a far away land.  I haven’t seen any queen with such beautiful clothes.  They are royal.  They are hanging on their roof.  They are made with great skill.  They are quite expensive.”  Karmo heard the maid and began to burn with jealousy.    Karmo went to her roof and looked towards Guru Arjan Dev ji’s house.  The sunrays of the July/August months fell on the clothes.  The gold in the clothes was shining bright.  She couldn’t tell if the sun was up in the sky or on the roof of Mata Ganga ji’s home.  The glory of the clothes, Karmo could not tolerate.  It was as though a knife pierced her heart.  The jealousy was hurting her.  She went light-headed with such rage.  The maid had to handle her.  It was as though a gambler lost everything in gambling.

All day, Karmo didn’t eat or speak.  When Prithi Chand came home at night, he saw his wife depressed and sitting down.  He approached her and said to her: “what’s wrong?  Did something happen that has made you upset?  Did you get into a fight?  Did you lose something?  Don’t worry and tell me what happened.”  Karmo heard her husband and spoke with anger: “our relatives have expensive things.  I saw my sister-in-law’s clothes which are more expensive than a queen’s clothes.  Her clothes were so bright.  I saw them and my chest was burning like a coal was placed on it.  Their glory is growing and ours is shrinking.  The whole family knows that we are left behind.  If you would have served your father, you would have been the Guru of the world.  You would have received these gifts.  You were the eldest but your younger brother took the Gurta Ghaddi.  You didn’t do any Seva.  He has unlimited money.  There is no end to their joy and none to our sorrow either.  I cannot tolerate this.  It is all your fault that I am not sleeping well.”  When Prithi heard this, he tried to cheer her up and said: “don’t worry.  I am the eldest son of Guru Ramdas ji, I do not lie.  What comes from my mouth will be true.  Till my brother is alive, that is how long he will have these expensive things.  He will die in a few years and then we will get everything.  He doesn’t have any children.  He will not have any children either.  We will get the Guru Ghaddi.  If there is no son, what’s the use of having money?  Our son, Meharban, will get everything.  We will be the owners.  There can’t be any other owner because his nephew will sit on the throne.  Don’t worry.  We will get everything.  Let them have their fun.  Don’t be in pain.  Without children; land and money is worthless.”  Prithi gave his wife hope: “what has happened is gone.  Don’t worry or think about the past.  We have our Sangat that gives us money too.  Make all the gold that you want.  I’ll get you more clothes.  Get all the things that you want.”  After saying this to his wife, his wife was happy.  Both of the corrupt people thought they were going to get everything.  The ones who think bad about others and feel better because of it, Prabhoo has other plans for such people.  What they think unto others, happens to them.  This is evident in the world.

3-2 Mata Ganga ji asks for a son/ Guru ji gives Permission

Prithi Chand’s maid heard the conversation between Prithi Chand and Karmo.  She felt happy to hear their conversation.  She thought about this all day.  There was a maid in the home of Guru ji who was wise.  The maid of Karmo told the maid of Mata Ganga ji: “our Babaji says that we will own everything that Guru ji has because they have no children.  Baba ji was mad at Guru ji.  He cursed the Guru that he will never have a child.  Don’t tell anyone this.  I’m telling you this because you are my friend.  Everything they have, will come to my Babaji’s home one day.  Meharban will become the Guru.  Guru Arjan Dev ji will die in a few days.  Our Baba ji told us not to worry.  Our Baba ji’s words have power.  This is for sure.  It is been a long time since the Guru Arjan Dev ji and Mata Ganga ji were married and they did not have a son.  For this reason, Baba Prithi Chand and Meharban will be the owner.  He will become the Guru as well.  They will never have a son.  Think about it, who else would be the Guru?”  When the two maids spoke, Mata Ganga Ji’s maid began to shed tears.  She was a good maid.  She was honest.  She cried and said: “it is my Ardaas that Guru Ramdas ji will give Mata Ganga ji a son as well.  I am loyal to my masters.  Meharban will not be the Guru.  The Guruship can only be achieved by holy blessings.  Guru Arjan Dev ji is only 30 years old.  He is not old.  Mata Ganga ji is young as well.  They can still have a child.  All of you are burning in the fire of jealousy.  Baba Prithi Chand speaks with fire in his heart.  He lived in the Guru’s house and still thinks bad of the Guru.  He wishes for the Guru to die.  Your Baba will be ruined and will have to wander (this became true as Prithi Chand left Amritsar and eventually resided at Guru ka Kotha).  Mata Ganga ji will be blessed with a child.  A handsome one, that will be feared by the sinners.”  Both maids began to argue in this way.  Mata Ganga ji’s maid went home but was worried.

The maid came home and told Mata ji of what had happened.  She cried and said: “Prithi Chand and Karmo think ill of Guru ji and you.  They say that you will not have a child.  I heard this with my own ears.  Their maid told me this.  Karmo and her maid is happy that you don’t have a child.  I was really upset when I heard this.  I have a headache thinking of how bad these people are.”  Mata Ganga ji heard this and became upset as well.  She took deep breaths and thought to herself: “there is no joy in the world without children.  I am without a son.  My own family is waiting for my death.  They wish to take all my material things.”  Many days passed as Mata ji thought about all this.  She did not like to eat anything or wear good clothes.

When Guru ji came home one day, he came and sat on his beautiful bed.  Mata ji got up and bowed to Guru ji.  She folded her hands and did an Ardaas to Guru ji: “we are householders.  We should have a child.  Children lighten the home.  Without children, the home is in darkness.  This darkness brings pains.  There is no glory in any world without children.  You are omnipotent and omniscient; I have little wisdom.  Please forgive me for asking for a worldly wish.  I am telling you my pain.  Your brother was speaking to her wife which I found out.  What they were discussing brought great pain to my heart.  Our maid was told by their maid that we will never have a child and that they will become the masters of all that we own.  When I think of this, I am not at rest.  I understand that everyone will die one day, but still, some symbol of ours should be left behind.  You fulfill the wishes of thousands of Sikhs; they have no shortage of milk or sons.  You give them everything.  Please fulfill my wish of having a son as well.  I want a child that will illuminate the name of the family and that will punish the sinners.  I want the family that speaks ill of us to be quiet.  You can do everything.”  Mata ji lowered her eyes to Guru ji’s feet.  Mata ji was the Avatar of Bhagti.  She recited Gurbani everyday.  Mata ji continued: “they say we won’t ever have children.  Please say it once that we will have a son.  Bless me.  I wish to be fortunate.  See me as your maid and remove my pain.”  Mata ji went quiet after saying this.  She began to cry and wiped her tears with her chunni.  Guru ji looked towards his wife and saw that she had a deep desire for a son.  The Satguru never wished to be praised and did not want to grant the gift himself.  He wanted the praise to go to his Sikh.  He thought to himself: “who is the senior most Sikh which has the ability to do this blessing.  Yes! There is one.  The one that serves the Guru, keeps the grass and never goes to his home.”  Guru ji said to Mata Ganga ji: “the keeper of the keys to Guru Nanak’s treasury and home is Baba Bhudda ji.  He is powerful.  Go to him to ask for a son.  He is complete in Gyaan.  He is the lion that kills the deer-like attachment.  If he says something, nothing can stop it from coming true.  Go and humbly ask him for a child.  Baba Bhudda ji did the Seva of Guru Nanak Dev ji, Guru Angad Dev ji, Guru Amar Das ji and Guru Ramdas ji.  He handles the Jageer of the 84 villages of the Guru’s estate.  He is a great and powerful being.  Whoever he blesses, they are without pain.  He fulfills everyone’s wishes who come to him.  His mind is still and is without desire.  His Seva is great.  He is very wise.”  Guru ji praised Baba Bhudda ji in this way.  Mata Ganga ji heard this and a great feeling of hope came into her heart.  She had faith and slept the night.

The next day, she got up and got ready after bathing and doing her Nitnem.  She prepared a beautiful chariot for her to ride on and had the horses saddled.  The chariot had silver posts.  The bulls had bells with decorations.  Mata Ganga ji spoke with the maids and took many of them along.  She took a lot of people with her as well.  The Sangat came with her.  She took a lot of sweets and fried food with her.  She wanted to serve Baba Bhudda ji with all this gourmet food.  Many chariots and carts were prepared.  They travelled to Baba Bhudda ji’s Bheer Sahib.  There was a great noise of the wheels and the bells.  Dust flew to the sky as they travelled.

Baba Bhudda ji asked a Sikh standing near him: “who is that coming our way?”  The Sikh looked carefully and said: “it is the family of Guru ji that comes our way.  Mata Ganga ji is coming with a great crowd coming this way.  There are many Sikhs with her.  Many chariots are coming.  That is the noise we are hearing.”  Baba Bhudda ji said: “why is there such a noise coming from Ramdaspur?  Why is the family of the Guru in such a hurry?  Why are they coming here?”  Baba ji looked towards the crowd.  As everyone reached the place, the carts stopped and everyone got off the chariots and carts.  Mata ji had all the sweets and gourmet food placed at Baba Bhudda ji’s feet.  Baba Bhudda ji looked at all the food and said: “Mata ji, what is the purpose for your visit in such a hurry for?”  When Mata ji heard Babaji, she trembled like a banana tree swaying in the wind, fearing to be uprooted.  She wondered why Baba ji asked for their “hurrying.”  She knew that what comes from his mouth will become true.  Mata ji was startled and didn’t speak.  Instead, the maid spoke, while folding her hands: “Baba ji, Satguru ji had given us the command to come to you.  We wish to receive your blessing for a son.  You are the most senior Sikh from the time of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  There isn’t anyone else compared to you.  You have done great Seva and are the eldest.  You can cut many problems and troubles.  Please bless us and give us a boon.  Mata ji wishes for a son.”  Baba Bhudda ji responded: “I am a person who feeds grass to the horses.  I have no treasure.  I have no power.  I am the caretaker of the Bheer, the fields.  I am your servant, Mata ji.  Guru ji is omnipotent who fulfills everyone’s desires.  Lakhs of Sikhs receive boons from him.  If someone is thousands of miles away and is in trouble, if he/she thinks of Guru ji, Guru ji protects them from trouble and pain.”  Mata Ganga ji heard this and became depressed.  She lost hope.  All of the servants were depressed as well.  They all lost hope.  Everyone was quiet.  They all bowed to Baba Bhudda ji and returned home.  They were all worried as they came back home.  They all thought that Prithi Chand’s words were becoming true.  There was going to be no son born to Guru Arjan Dev ji and Mata Ganga ji.

Everyone reached Amritsar and had depression on their faces.  They saw Guru ji standing in the courtyard of the home and bowed to him.  Their faces were wilting.  Guru ji noticed this and said: “tell me what happened?  Did you get the boon?  Why are you depressed?  Tell me what Baba ji said.”  Mata Ganga ji began to cry.  She took a deep breath and told Guru ji everything that happened: “we went to Bheer Bhudda ji after you told us to.  We bowed to him and presented our request.  Instead of a boon, he gave us a curse that we are in a hurry.  It looks like we will have to leave Amritsar in a hurry.  I brought back sorrow instead of joy.  His words have me worried.  I don’t know when we will have to leave in a hurry.  It is like a person goes to the Kalapbrish with great effort, but does not get anything.  Instead, I lost something.”  Guru Arjan Dev ji asked his wife: “in which way did you go?  How did you show your feelings?  What gifts did you take?”  Mata ji said: “I went on a chariot with many servants and maids.  We took a lot of sweets and the best gourmet rich foods.  I placed them at his feet.  My maid made the plea to Baba Bhudda ji.  Baba ji didn’t give me the boon and gave me a curse instead.  We are all scared and insecure of us leaving here in a hurry now.”  Sri Guru Arjan Dev ji heard the whole story and gave Mata ji wisdom: “when you go to visit the great and powerful beings, don’t show off your status to them.  Be humble when you go and let of your ego.  Make your plea yourself.  Don’t show your status.  You should become humble like dirt.”  After hearing this, Mata Ganga ji regretted her actions: “I went without thinking.  I got pain because of this.”

3-3 Mata Ganga ji Receives the Boon from Baba Bhudda ji

Mata ji looked towards the ground for a long time.  After a while, she gathered her courage and patience.  She said to Guru ji: “Sri Guru ji, you are omnipotent and the master of the world.  You are the master of all the powers and all the dimensions.  You can do anything you want to.  Prabhoo ji, you can do anything in an instant.  You listen to your Sikhs in far away lands and dimensions.  You reach your Sikhs and help them where they are.  You fulfill the wishes of your faithful.  You do the tasks of the whole universe.  The whole world says this.  Baba Bhudda ji praised you and said that you fulfill everyone’s wishes.  He said that he is only a grass cutter.  I am to ask you for the boon.  Baba Bhudda ji said that he asks for you to fulfill his wishes.  You are omnipotent but you told me to go to Baba Bhudda ji to get the gift of a son.  I didn’t follow your task properly to get the boon.  I have made a mistake.  You are the only one that can correct me.  Please teach me the proper way.  To serve the great beings, one needs to be wise.  To get a son which has the radiance of the sun, teach me how to fulfill this task.  Please look at my folded hands and show me the way.  Please bless me so that my fear and worries are gone.  I want to be blessed as a mother.  I made a mistake.  Please forgive me.  If the dust of your feet touches my head, I will be blessed to be a mother.”  Mata Ganga ji was humble and requested for wisdom.  Guru ji heard his wife and said: “he is a farmer, a Jaat, who has won all of his senses.  He is called the “Jitendra.”  He is a worker who works for a living.  He is the Jogi of Jogis.  Sweets and gourmet foods aren’t desired by him.  Go to him with love and humility.  Serve him with what he likes.  Don’t show that you are the wife of the Guru.  Go to him as a humble Sikh of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  Wake up at Amritvela and take a bath.  Recite Gurbani and do Simran.  Filter and grind the wheat with a chakki, two rotating stones.  Half should be whole wheat and half should be channa flour.  Grind it yourself.  Add salt while kneading the dough.  Make really thick rotis, missay parshaday.  Put ghee on top of the missay parshaday.  Make yoghurt tonight.  Recite Gurbani and don’t put too much water into the yoghurt.  Make a thick lassi.  The pots you are going to use for the lassi, light incense into it to get rid of the smell.  Take two or three onions with you.  Take all that you prepare and place it on your head.  Do not wear shoes and walk to Baba Bhudda ji yourself.  Don’t take anyone with you.  Bow to him and make your request yourself.  He will be happy and give you the boon.  Don’t think too much.  He will give the boon for the next generation of Guru Ramdas ji’s family.  You will undoubtedly have a son.  He will be very powerful and strong.  Whoever will serve him will also become very powerful.  Everyone will bow to him.”  Mata ji was really happy to hear Guru ji’s words.  It was as though she already received her son.

Mata ji couldn’t sleep the night due to happiness.  At Amritvela she bathed and got ready.  After reciting Gurbani, she filtered the flour and grinded it.   It took her a while to grind it.  Her maids wanted to help but Mata ji stopped them.  Mata ji prepared the fire and cooked the missay parshaday.  She made 5 thick rotis and placed ghee on top.  She made very delicious lassi after giving the pot incense.  She took a few bulbs of onions with her.  After preparing everything, she placed everything on her head and started her journey without shoes.  She walked from Amritsar to Chabaal (Bheer Baba Bhudda ji) which was about 20 km away.  2 maids walked behind her at a distance.  Mata ji didn’t let the others come as the 2 that came, came by force to keep an eye on her.  It was a difficult path for her but Mata ji didn’t feel the pain.  She had the food on her head which hurt her head.  She got blisters on her feet but nothing was affecting her.  She had faith in her heart.  There was nothing that was unattainable for her.

Mata Ganga ji reached the city.  Baba Bhudda ji was working in the fields.  He did not eat anything the night before, in anticipation of Mata ji coming the next day.  He knew that the great task of doing the Ardaas of the 6th Guru, the powerful one, was upon him.  He knew that Mata ji was going to come in the morning.  He didn’t even drink water the night before.  When he saw Mata Ganga ji walking towards him, he got up with love and met her.  He folded his hands and said: “you are Dhan.  You are great.  Only you were eligible to become the wife of the Guru.  Your son his hungry that is why you are here.  You travel in palanquins and chariots but today you walked bare-foot.  You carried everything on your own head and came to feed your child today.  Why would your wishes not be fulfilled?  You are great and came without shoes.  You have no pride of being the wife of the Guru and kept your mind low.  You have love and humility in your heart.”  Baba ji came forward and removed the pot of lassi from Mata Ganga ji’s head.  Mata ji folded her hands and bowed to Baba Bhudda ji for being the most senior Sikh of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  Baba Bhudda ji took the bundle and began to eat the Missay parshaday.  He ate the delicious food and drank the lassi.  He said to Mata ji: “when the son is hungry, the mother drops everything and takes food for the son.  You have satiated me today and walked a long way.  I was hungry from the day before.”  Mata Ganga ji heard this and began to make her request.  She was humble and folded her hands.  She said: “please bless me with the heir to the Ghaddi of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  I come to you as a servant.  You have been in the presence of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji and served them.  There is no other powerful being other than you.  You are the sun that removes the darkness of pain.  I made a mistake before and came on chariots.  I beg for your forgiveness as a Sikh of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  I was unwise as to how to serve great beings.  You are great who does not see mistakes.  You only see love.  You are never hungry or have any desires.  You’re telling me your hungry to make me happy.”  Baba Bhudda ji finished his food, being fully satiated, he washed his hands.  Just as he was about to speak, a cool breeze began to blow.  Thundering clouds rolled in all of a sudden.  Flashes of lightning came with the clouds thundering.  The lightening lit up the whole sky.  The cloud looked like a great warrior, thundering, looking at Baba ji and coming towards him to inspire him.  The lightening bolt was like an unsheathed sword in his hand.  It was as though the cloud came to motivate Baba Bhudda ji to bless Mata Ganga ji.  Looking at the great signs, he was amazed.  He understood the command of Akaal Purakh.  He said to Mata ji with great enthusiasm: “you will have a son who will be powerful.  You are great!  Your son will be a warrior and a great wielder of the sword.  He will not sit on a Ghaddi of Saints.  He will sit on a Takhat, instead, like kings and warriors.  These are the signs that I am seeing.  He will be a lover of the battlefield and wage war on the sinners.  He will destroy the sinners.  He will be filled with Bir Rass.  Just as I crush this onion (taking an onion and crushing it between his palms), that is how he will crush the heads of the sinners with his own hands.  Just as you fed me, a hungry person, to satiate me, you will be satiated with your son by having this son.   He will wear two swords: Peeree (sword of the peers, the saints); Meeree (sword of the kings).  His name will be “Har Govind Jagadeesh,” the master of the world.  He will be a great warrior and come to your home as a son.  He will tame many kings and defeat the sinners.  Listen Mata, you will be praised just as Kaushalya for giving birth to Ram and Devaki for giving birth to Ghanshyam, Krishan.  You are amongst those mothers now.  You will receive this reward for your great deeds.  Your son will be the most handsome, strong and tallest person in the world.  His arms and legs will be huge.  There will be no one stronger than him.  His arms will be like the trunks of an elephant.  People will stop to look at his amazing body.”  1651 (Vikram), Asoo (September/October) 31 was the day that Baba Bhudda ji said this.  Mata ji was really happy and said: “you are a great Sikh of the Satguru and served him with great devotion.  You grant wishes to anyone who serves you.”  Mata ji bowed to Baba Bhudda ji and went back to Amritsar.  She walked back and met her maids that followed her, on the way back.  Others joined and inquired of what had happened.  They asked: “did you get your boon?  You went with faith and devotion.  What did Baba ji say?”  Mata ji assured everyone and said: “yes I got the boon but will tell you what happened when we get home.”  Everyone came back to Amritsar and bowed to Harimandhir Sahib, thinking of Guru ji.  From this day onwards it became known that whoever wanted a son, should do exactly what Mata Ganga ji did and go to Baba Bhudda ji’s home to receive a boon for a son.  The mother should prepare Langar and go to Baba Bhudda ji’s home.  The mother will get a child as she wishes.

Mata Ganga ji was quite tired as she got home.  Her feet were blistered.  She didn’t think of eating anything yet.  She hadn’t eaten all day.  Her lips were tried so she drank water.  Her feet were bleeding and her clothes were dirty.  She was hungry but didn’t lose her patience.  She was happy that her son was going to be the heir to the Guru’s throne.  Mata ji had never had to walk so much, as she travelled on chariots her whole life.  She was happy to get the boon.  She had no pain or worries in her mind.  She had worried long enough.  She had faith that she will have a son.  The maids washed Mata ji’s feet with warm water.  They massaged her legs and made her sit down.  The maids asked Mata ji to eat.  Mata ji said: “I want to wait to see Guru ji before I eat.”   Mata ji waited for Guru ji.  There was a joy in the whole house.  Guru ji came to his home from his court and sat on his bed.  He said to Mata Ganga ji: “what happened today?”  Mata ji said: “I will have a son who will wield the sword.  He will wear two swords.  Baba ji was happy with my Seva.  He said many other words in joy.  He said my son will be the master of Meeree and Peeree.  He will be a radiant warrior.  No one will be bigger or more handsome than him.  It is all your grace by which I went to Baba Bhudda ji.  When he ate, thundering clouds came in all of a sudden.  The lightening flashed; the clouds thundered.  Baba ji saw this and got happy.  He said my son will sit on Takhats and be a warrior.  He will punish the sinners.  No one will be able to face him on the battlefield.  He will have many virtues and will make the family grow.  This is what Baba ji said.”  Guru Arjan Dev ji was happy that Guru Hargobind Sahib ji’s Avatar was near.  Guru ji said: “the glory of the Saints is great.  It cannot be fully spoken of.  The Saints can make rivers flow on dry land.  They can dry up filled ponds as well.  They can make kings out of paupers and paupers out of kings.  They can wake up the dead and kill the live with their words.  They can stop the rivers and make the mountains move.  There are many examples in the world that everyone knows.  Nobody knows where the ability of the Saints ends.  Devatas, demons and human were not able to face the Saints.  The command of the Saints is not reversable.  Akaal Purakh listens to the words of the Saints.  The powers of the universe obey the Saints.  Baba Bhudda ji is the embodiment of Tapasya.  He has seen all of the Gurus and is the Aatam Gyani.  Whoever serves him, their wishes are fulfilled.  He destroys pain and trouble.”  Guru ji praised Baba Bhudda ji from his holy mouth.  Mata Ganga ji heard this with faith and bowed her head.  She said: “great is this Sikh without sin.”  It was as though a poor person got the Kalapbrish.  That is how happy Mata Ganga ji was.  All her worries were gone.  She gave food to Guru Arjan Dev ji and sat beside him with love.  After Guru ji ate, Mata Ganga ji ate food as well.  Mata ji slept in joy and peace that night.  I, Kavi Santokh Singh, bow to the lotus feet of Mata Ganga ji, who is full of virtues.  She is to be the mother of the great warrior, Guru Hargobind Sahib ji.

3-4 The Avatar of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib ji

Guru Arjan Dev ji and Mata Ganga ji were extremely happy.  Guru ji wanted his Sikh to be praised and so everyone was praising Baba Bhudda ji.  Guru ji wanted a son with a great radiance, which no one else could face.

Baba Bhudda ji’s words soon became true.  Mata ji was pregnant.  Guru ji, Mata ji and the Sikhs were all happy.  Everyone that had love for Guru ji were happy.  They were waiting for the Avatar Satguru, who was going to have a great radiance and was going to be a warrior.  The maids were waiting to get gifts when the Avatar was going to be born.  They were waiting for the great Avatar to be born.  They said: “there will be a great celebration when he will be born.  The sinners will be worried and destroyed.”  The maids praised Baba Bhudda ji as well: “look how quickly the saint’s words were true?  The Saints are like Akaal Purakh.”

Guru Arjan Dev was thinking about the curse that came from Baba Bhudda ji’s mouth.  He thought to himself: “that curse should come out to be true as well.  He gave the curse before the blessing of the son.  That curse should come out first.  It should be carried out before the Avatar is born.  I will have to complete it.  Baba Bhudda ji said: “where is the Guru’s family going to in a hurry?”  This will become true.  Nobody can reverse these words nor can they be erased.”  As Guru ji was thinking about this, Guru ji found out that Sulhi Khan was coming with 5000 soldiers from Delhi.  He was a friend of Baba Prithi Chand who was in constant contact with him.  Prithi Chand told Sulhi: “I am being wronged.  I am the eldest son of Guru Ramdas ji and I am sitting with nothing.  My younger brother took the Gurta Ghaddi and everything else.  I need you to help me.”  Sulhi Khan took an army and made his way to Punjab.  He said to the Emperor: “Guru Arjan Dev ji has done wrong.  I will arrest him and loot the city of Ramdaspur.  I will help my friend Prithi Chand.”  In this way he came from Delhi.  Guru Arjan Dev ji heard about all this.  He knew if wasn’t Sulhi’s fault.  These were Baba Bhudda ji’s words coming out to be true.  Sulhi Khan had the power of Baba ji’s curse.  It was time for this to come true.  Guru ji thought to himself: “we will have to leave in a hurry.”  Guru ji commanded everyone to pack up.  Guru ji casually packed up and left Amritsar for the purpose of fulfilling Baba Bhudda ji’s words.  He was leaving in a hurry.  Other citizens of the city went with Guru ji.  The people emptied their houses and cursed at Prithi Chand: “Prithi Chand is a jealous person who is calling Sulhi Khan to bother Guru ji.”

Guru ji and the Sikhs came to a village named Vadaali (also known as Guru ki Vadaali).  All of the Sikhs praised Guru ji and Simran of Satnam.  Everyone was in joy and without fear.  Prithi Chand heard that his friend was coming with an army for him.  He thought to himself: “my brother heard this and left the city.  I will go and meet my friend and impress him.  He troubled himself for nothing as my enemy already left.  I will tell him not to come here.”  Prithi Chand collected many gifts and went ahead to meet Sulhi Khan.  He went ahead and met Sulhi Khan.  The two hugged and were happy to see each other.  Prithi Chand presented money to welcome him and said: “you did a great favor for me by coming.”  Sulhi Khan said: “I am not here to take money from you.  I will be giving you money because you are the Guru of the world.  People come to you to fulfill their wishes.  Many people come to you and bow to your feet to become your servants.”  Prithi Chand said to Sulhi Khan: “listen friend, see this money as Prashaad from the house of the Guru.  I gave you the money for your food.  Take this and be happy.  I trust you wholeheartedly and that you can’t see me in pain.  You came with a great army to help me.  Nobody can fight with me.”  Sulhi Khan praised Prithi Chand: “you are a great friend of mine.  I read your letter and came to help you from Delhi.  I will arrest Guru Arjan Dev ji and loot the city of Ramdas Nagri.  Meeting you, my radiance has grown.  I will punish your enemies and go back to my Emperor, Jahangir.  I will tell everyone that the Guru is Baba Prithi Chand ji.  I will make an announcement here too.  You are my friend; I will make you the Guru and give you a lot of joy.”  Prithi Chand was happy to hear this and said: “you are great Sulhi Khan.  The tales of our friendship will be praised for generations to come.  I will give you some good news: when my enemy found out that you were coming with 5000 soldiers, he left the city.  He made everyone leave the city with him.  There is nothing left for you to loot.  You are so great that even your name has value.  It was just your name that fulfilled my task.  You came yourself and therefore I haven’t a worry in the world now.  You completed all my tasks by coming.  You did a great service to me.  You made me flourish like giving water to a dry tree.  I will call people to come and live in Amritsar.  I will call the people who follow me and make houses for them.  The ones that left, that is fine.  If they wish to come back, I won’t stop them.  Sulhi Khan, you can go back home from here now.  My work is already done.  May your connection with the Emperor grow four times deeper.  I bless you.”  Sulhi, the fool, heard Prithi Chand’s words and was happy to hear that the enemy left because of his name.  He smiled and said: “ok, forget the enemy.  Why bother thinking of their name?   You should take care of your house and re-establish the city according to you.  If your brother tries to come back here and be your enemy, or tries to be worshipped here, just send me a message and I’ll be back.  I will come and kill him.”  The two met like two brothers.  Both were happy.  Prithi Chand thought he had a direct connection with the Emperor.

Prithi Chand went home happy.  Sulhi Khan went to another place in Punjab for a royal task.  After doing his task, he returned to Delhi.  He looked towards his army and was filled with pride to have 5000 soldiers under his command.  He thought to himself: “I can do whatever I want.  Nobody can face me.  The Emperor listens to me as well.”  Prithi Chand resided in Amritsar.  He thought: now that Guru Arjan Dev ji was gone, he was going to get all the money.  But that wasn’t case.  He was burning all the time with greed.  He wanted money and power.  He wanted to be worshipped like his father.  When the Sangat heard that Guru ji was no longer in Amritsar, they would go to Vadaali to meet him.  As Prithi Chand found this out, his anger and jealousy grew.  Just like a firefly thinks it is the sun, and doesn’t know that the sun is much stronger; he thinks he is the sun in the night; this is how Prithi Chand was.  He wanted to compare himself to Guru Arjan Dev ji.

The Fifth Paatshaah was in Vadaali.  He was a calm and serene person, void of corruption and greed.  His nature was simple.  He came to this earth with a body to be generous to everyone.  He lives where he wishes.  Wherever he lives, the Sikhs come to serve and worship him.  Guru ji had a house built in Vadaali for him.  It was a beautiful home.  It was as big as the family needed to live in, with peace.  The people that came with Guru ji from Amritsar, they left their homes and made new homes in Vadaali.  They were without sorrow as they were with Guru ji.  Guru ji noticed that water was scarce there.  Guru ji had a well dug there.  Guru ji sang the praises of this well as it was the Guru’s.  It was called the “Chirhatta.”  The ones that bathed from that well, their sins were washed away.  Guru ji gave this blessing himself about the well: “the ones who bathe from this well on the day of Masya (new moon), if a woman has an illness of not being able to be pregnant, they will be cured and have children.  They will receive the wishes they desire.  Having faith in their heart, they should worship the place.”  When the Sangat found out that Guru ji was in Vadaali, the Sikhs came there to meet him.  Some new Sikhs came to Vadaali, bringing many gifts and money for Guru ji.  They would place the gifts and do Ardaas to Guru ji.  There was a great crowd in Vadaali.  One group would come and one group would go.  They would do Seva and be blessed.  They all received joy for doing Seva.  A lot of Karah Prashaad was distributed everyday.  Whoever came, their illnesses were all gone.  The came from Khurasan, Kabul, Peshawar, Kashmir, Dhunni, Ghayp, Lamma Desh, Balak Bukhara, Multan, and other places.  They came and brought expensive gifts from their areas.  Many Sikhs came from afar to have their wishes fulfilled.  They met Guru ji and their hearts would blossom with joy.  They were in constant joy and decided to live with Guru ji forever.  The wise ones came to Guru ji to get the Gyaan from his feet.  The enemies saw Guru ji and were in pain.  They couldn’t take the glory of Guru ji growing.  The slanderers wanted to act like swans but were nothing but flamingos.  A flamingo can never be a swan.  Prithi Chand wanted money and people didn’t like that when they noticed that about him.  Prithi Chand tried to make Guru ji look bad but it didn’t work.  He was always getting bad karma.  Prithi Chand’s supporters would hide their intentions and didn’t do Seva.

In Vadaali, nine months passed.  The Sikhs were being looked after by Guru ji.  The Sikhs did Simran of Satnam.  Many Sikhs came to Guru ji and brought gifts for him.  The money that came from the Sangat, Guru ji used it to make wells or use it for the good of the people.  The Langar was constant.  The Masands would do the Seva themselves.  Guru ji wouldn’t touch the money himself.  The Masands would handle it all and spend it where it would be commanded.  When the gifts would come, Guru ji wouldn’t touch those either.  Guru ji only wanted to help everyone.  The people of all dimensions sang Guru ji’s praises.  As the nine months passed and the tenth month was upon them, Mata ji was in labor.  The midwives were called who said: “may you have a son.”  8 Divas were lit in every corner of the room.  The time was right, all of the nine planets came to bow.  It was 1652 (Vikram), Harr (June/July) 21st, as the night was half way, it was the time of Pukhya Nakshatra (Cancer), which was a pure time (children born in this time were to be great kings); Guru Hargobind Sahib ji was born.  It was Sunday, the first of the light phase of the moon, when the great Guru was born.  There was a great illumination which amazed the midwives.  It looked like as though the moon was born.  It was a very powerful form.  It was the destroyer of sinners and the protector of the servants.  He was a beautiful and wise child.  He was going to burn the vices like firewood.  He was to have the strength of a great conqueror.  His illumination made the light of the Divas low.  The midwives said: “we have seen many babies but this baby brought so much light.  He is the most beautiful baby we have ever seen.  He did not cry being born.  He is smiling.  Both he and his mother had no pain at all.”  Just as the lightening flashes, that is how his illumination is.  The midwives told Mata Ganga ji: “a son is born!  Congratulations!  He will purify the people of Kaliyuga.”  Mata ji was happy to hear this.  The Tapasvis and Jappis received their reward today.  The form of Akaal Purakh came to bless the midwives.  It was as though a poor person received the Kalapbrish.  Everyone was happy in this manner.  Mata ji wanted a son for a long time, this was fulfilled today.  Mata ji did not worry about the family either.  Mata ji’s eyes were gleaming like a lotus flower.  Mata ji gave her necklace that she was wearing to the midwife that gave her the good news.  Mata ji was very happy.  Mata ji said: “open the treasury and give everyone what they want.”  The maids did what Mata ji said.  Mata ji saw Guru Hargobind Sahib ji and was filled with joy.  She gave gifts to everyone in the home.  The news spread in the whole city.  People came to celebrate from their home.  The whole place was celebrating and the news came out like waves from the sea.

3-5 Baba Bhudda ji comes to see the Sahibzada

One of the maids went running to Guru Arjan Dev ji, as he was sitting in Samadhi.  He was waiting for the birth of his son as well.  He was doing the Simran of the Indestructible Purshotam.  He was reciting the True Name on his bed.  He was sitting alone, the ocean of wisdom.  The maid came in to his room and bowed to Guru ji.  She folded her hands and said: “Guru ji, a son is born.  There is happiness everywhere.  Mata ji is really happy.  Congratulations!”  Hearing the great news, Guru ji was filled with love and bliss.  He folded his hands and bowed to Guru Nanak Dev ji, Sri Parmeshwar.  It was Amritvela and he sat on his seat.  He was about to recite Gurbani, as the love was pouring out of his heart.  The great Avatar, Guru Arjan Dev ji, thought about his son with his divine vision and said: “he is a powerful Avatar and will do great for many.  He will punish the sinners and wear the Peeree and the Meeree.  He will start a new tradition by wearing weapons and sitting on a Takhat.  His family will grow for ages to come.  He will be the gem of the family.  He will be radiant and bright like the sun.  He will destroy the darkness of evil.”  Guru ji’s heart was full of love which was going to come out in the form of Gurbani.  It was the time of Asa and so Guru ji began to do the Alaap in Raag Asa.  He began to sing the notes of Raag Asa and recited a Shabad:

(SGGS 806)

Satguru Nanak Dev ji has given us a son who will have a long life.  The sorrow of not having a child is now gone.  A great joy has come.  The tradition of the Gurta Ghaddi brought all of the rewards.  Guru Nanak Dev ji is merciful.  This gift is not hidden.  Baba Bhudda ji is a great Sadhoo who has given us this gift from Guru Nanak Dev ji’s treasury.  Har Govind is with a long life.  There will be a lot of joy.”

Seeing the time of Asa, Guru ji sang the Shabad out loud with love.  The second was sung in Bilawal, the Raag of joy.  He sang these Shabads in gratitude of his son being born.  There was a lot of celebration going on.  The sun came up and the whole city found out.  Whoever heard, they came to Guru ji to congratulate him.  Many types of flowers were made into garlands and hung around the Guru’s home.  Leaves of fruit trees were hung around the house.  Many people came to celebrate.  The Dhundhabs and Shehnais were playing to celebrate the occasion.  The women of the city wore red clothes with a lot of golden jewellery.  They came to give their well wishes to everyone.  The young and fair girls of the city, who were beautiful and had voices of songbirds, sang the Shabads of Gurbani.  They sang songs of joy as well.  It seemed as though the wives of the Devatas came in disguised as human to sing.  There was a great crowd in the Guru’s home.  The Devatas came in human form as well.  They sprinkled sandalwood essence with saffron.  There were fragrant smells everywhere when they came.  They showered flowers on Guru ji’s home.  They threw pretty flowers and brought fragrant incense.  They came to see the 6th Avatar.  They all sang the praises of Guru ji: “Guru ji is the sun of wisdom who is with contentment, peace and many powers.  He is forgiving and gracious.  The glory of his feet is great.  He has come to bless the human.  He came in human form for this purpose.  A warrior son has been born to you who will love the battlefield.  He is named Har Govind.  He will destroy the sinners and be filled with many virtues.  He will be the lover of Dharma and be the strongest person with the greatest arms ever.  He will wield weapons and rage war on the Mughals.  He will bless his servants with Bhagti and warriorism.  He will protect the poor.  He will not let the enemy stand in front of him.  He will colour the earth red with the blood of sinners.”  All of the Devatas bowed and went back to their dimensions.  They praised Guru Arjan Dev ji as well: “you have illuminated the Panth in Kaliyuga.  One can do Simran of Satnam and be blessed.  Those people will be fortunate who walk on this path.  They will receive Mukti and their minds will be calm.  The Jogis and Bhogis will be blessed.  They will do Simran and receive everything they want.”  Guru ji was fulfilling all the wishes.  The Taadis, Bhatts and Dooms were singing their poems.  They showed their skills and sang songs of joy.  Guru ji gave them a lot of money.  The artists said: “may your son live long for many eras.”  Clothes and food were given to the ones who needed it.  The servants and maids got a lot of gold.  Guru ji gave a lot of donations.  The dhols and Nagaras sounded.  The Mridangs, Rababs and Sitaars played.  The Rababis sang in many Raags.  The glory of Satnam was everywhere.  There was a great celebration.  The drama actors came to show their shows for entertainment.  The wrestlers came to set up their rings.  The Sikhs came and brought food and money.  The beggars came and shouted out Jaikaras in joy.  They said: “may your son live long.  Guru Nanak ji has fulfilled a wish which was in the hearts for a long time.”  The poor gave their well wishes as well.

There was joy in every home of Vadaali.  Men and women were all happy.  When it was 10 am, Baba Bhudda ji and Bhai Gurdas ji came.  They came to see Guru ji and the new child.  There was a great celebration as they came.  Dhundhabs played and Keertan could be heard.  The son was born to Guru ji.  Everyone came to see the child.  Baba Bhudda ji was over-joyed.  He folded his hands and bowed to Guru ji.  He congratulated him: “may your son live forever.  May he sit on the throne of Guru Nanak Dev ji and be a great warrior.  May his praises be sung everywhere.  Kingdom and wealth, he will have like Kings.  He will have Jog and Bhog.  He will live in peace and joy.”  Guru Arjan Dev ji gave a lot of respect to Baba Bhudda ji and said: “you are the servant of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji.  You see joy and sorrow as the same.  Just as there is fire, hidden in the ashes, in the same way, you are the master of all powers and have the full gyaan.  Your words are irreversible and you can do the impossible.  You are the greatest saint.  There is no other Sadhoo that can compare to you.  You are the apex of Sikhi.  Your boon was fulfilled.  It is your glory.  You gave your servant a gift.  Whoever you bless with love, they receive the four gifts (Dharam, Arth, Kaam, Moksha).  You are a great Tapasvi who does Simran all the time.  You are the head of all the Sikhs.  Your glory can’t be sung.  You are a Saint but in fact, are Parmeshwar.”  When Bhai Gurdas ji heard these words, he folded his hands and said: “Guru ji, you speak the truth, oh omniscient Prabhoo.  Baba Bhudda ji is the complete being who has been in the company of 5 Gurus.  He has served them and been in bliss.  All of the Gurus were happy with him.  There is no other like him.”  Baba Bhudda ji was praised by both.  Baba Bhudda ji and Bhai Gurdas ji stayed in Vadaali that night.

The news reached Amritsar of the birth of Guru Hargobind Sahib ji.  Guru Arjan Dev ji had a son.  The Sangat of Amritsar got ready to go to Vadaali.  Men and women got dressed in beautiful clothes.  They collected money and gifts for the new child.   The Sangat eagerly set off for Vadaali.  They came and saw the celebration.  They came and congratulated Guru ji.  They bowed and placed their gifts.  They said: “after a long time, a son is born.  The son is to have the light of Guru Nanak Dev ji reside inside of him.  May he live long.  This son has gotten rid of the worries of Mata Ganga ji.”  The women of Amritsar wanted to see the child and stood outside of the door.  They were lined outside waiting to see the child.  They bowed from outside, knowing the young Guru was inside.  They came with faith and devotion.  They said: “please let us see the Sahibzada.”  Mata ji was resting.  The midwives wrapped Guru Hargobind ji in blankets and brought him outside.  The women saw the child and were amazed.  Mata Ganga ji said to the women: “my friends, Baba Bhudda ji gave me this gift.  His words were fulfilled and now we are in joy.  He is the gem of the family.  He is a beautiful child given by Guru ji.  Oh friends, this night was a blessed one.  My son was born this night.  I am a sacrifice to this night that passed.  This child came with the blessing of Guru Nanak Dev ji.”  The women of Amritsar saw the child and were over-joyed to see such a beautiful child.  The women said: “he was born with the blessing of Baba Bhudda ji.”  The Langar was ready and everyone ate.  The Sangat from Amritsar went back home after eating.  They talked amongst themselves as they walked home.

Baba Bhudda ji said to Guru Arjan Dev ji: “I would like to see the child as well.  It is a great wish of mine to see him.  When he came into Mata ji’s womb, I had the wish to see him since then.  I saw signs in nature that he was a warrior Avatar.  I saw many miracles which made me say the words that I said.  Mata ji came without shoes to see me.  She got this son after much effort.”  Guru Arjan Dev ji told the maids: “take Baba Bhudda ji and have him see the child. Thank Guru Nanak Dev ji and show him to Baba Bhudda ji.  There is nothing to fear as Baba ji is the one who gave the boon.  Sri Kartar is the protector of the child.  Do as Baba Bhudda ji wishes.  Obey is every command.”  The maids took Baba Bhudda ji and had him sit on a seat in the courtyard.  Mata Ganga ji was told of the command of Guru ji.  The Sahibzada was wrapped in beautiful blankets.  Mata ji said: “this is Baba ji’s gift.  We are the servants.  This child is loved by Baba Bhudda ji more than us.  He will see the child because he gave the blessing.”  The maids took the child and brought him to Baba Bhudda ji.  Baba Bhudda ji saw the child and got up.  He stood up with his hands folded.  He saw the child with soft and red feet.  The baby lifted his feet to show Baba ji his feet.  His arms and legs were big.  His foot had the symbol of the fish, which signifies greats kings.  In his right hand, was a symbol of a canopy, also a sign of kings.  There was a symbol of a Chaur in his left hand.  His nails and toenails looked like gems.  His forehead was wide.  His hair was black and lush.  He eyes were like lotus petals.  His eyebrows were like bows.  Akaal Purakh, Sri Prabhoo ji, was in the form of a child.  This was the form that Brahma and others praise.  Baba Bhudda ji bowed to the child and was filled with joy.  He said the name of the child out loud, saying: “his name is Sri Har Gobind.”  He came back to Guru Arjan Dev ji.  He took permission and went back home to his place after a few days.
