12-11 Raja Ram (father of Ratan Rai) is Blessed a Son

Satguru ji came back to his Damdama after crossing the river upon his boat.  Once he came back, the Sikhs built a great and beautiful Dharamsala.  Many Sikhs came to meet him.  Where the Dhoban’s tree was stopped, a whole village was established.  Where the dagger was planted into the ground, there was a great city established.  The name of that city was called “Khanjar.”  Some of the army of the Moghul Emperor was stationed at Khanjar.  That had become the boundary of both states.  There was no longer a conflict between the two kingdoms.  Both sides were happy.  A treaty was signed between the two states so none would enter each other’s territory.  Both Rajas were satisfied.

There was another kingdom near Kamroop called “Tripura.”  The name of their king was Ram.  Raja Ram did not have an heir and did many prayers for a son.  His efforts were not successful.  The glory of Satguru Tegh Bahadhur ji had spread quite far around the East.  Guru Sahib had been there for quite a few years.  It was known far and wide, in and around Assam, Dhakka and Bengal that Guru Sahib was all-powerful and was the granter of wishes.  Low and high, everyone sang Guru ji’s praises as they knew that he fulfilled the wishes of the people.  People said: “if you do his Seva and have faith, your wishes will be fulfilled.  He gives you what you wish for, right away.  His words become true.  Many have asked for sons and had their wishes were fulfilled.  Many had asked for health and were cured of illnesses.  The poor became rich and well off.  Whoever is jealous of Guru Sahib; disrespects Guru ji by not knowing his greatness, they faced many difficulties.  The words that come from Guru Sahib’s mouth, they become true immediately.  Even if he thinks of it, that would become true.  Many have become Sikhs of the Guru.  Thousands come to see him.”  Many became rich from paupers by Guru ji’s words.  The whole land loved and respected Guru ji.  Many came with respect and became Sikhs.

The queen of Raja Ram had heard about Guru Sahib.  Many told her of Guru ji’s praises.  She would pray for a son everyday and was depressed.  Day and night she prayed.  The queen was not happy and did not like to eat nor wear nice clothes.  Nothing made her happy.  The queen had a glimmer of hope as soon as she heard of Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib ji’s praises.  She felt like she was surely going to get a son upon hearing Guru ji’s name.  During one night, as the king came to his room, the queen cried and said: “my King, we have so much wealth but everything is useless without an heir.  They are all faint without a son.  There is no one to give our Tilanjal (traditions for deceased parents) when we die.  Without a son, we will leave without an heir.  We have tried herbs and medicines but nothing worked.  We have done many prayers.  (The Vedas define Putra as Pu= hell, tra= to take across.)  The Putra (son in Sanskrit) can take the parents to heaven according to the Vedas.  The son serves the parents and gives them joy.  The family tradition grows and carries on.  The son that becomes a devotee of Akaal Purakh, he takes the parents to heaven.  We also need an heir to take the crown and maintain order in the kingdom.  Parents see the son which gives peace to their chests.  Akaal Purakh has not given us the joy of a son.  We tried many things.  I have heard from someone today that Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji’s incarnation, Guru Tegh Bahadhur ji, is in our area.  Many people’s wishes are granted by him.  People come to do his seva with respect and are blessed with peace.  Guru Nanak Dev ji’s glory is spread far and wide in the whole world.  My king, please go to the Guru and do his seva.  The Guru will be happy and give us blessings so we may have a son.”  The King heard this and responded to the queen: “I have also heard of the Guru’s beautiful praises.  I have heard that whatever Guru Tegh Bahadhur ji says, becomes true.  Guru Nanak Dev ji is like the sun in this world.  His glory has spread throughout the world.  Guru Tegh Bahadhur ji is the Avatar of Guru Nanak Dev ji, this is what the whole world says.”  The King and Queen decided to go to Guru ji.  They were happy and went to sleep.

In the morning, the King found out where Guru ji was.  The king made preparations.  The King of Tripura, along with his queen and soldiers, set off to meet the Guru.  They sounded their Nagaras.  Many mounted soldiers were with him.  Many chariots and palanquins set off.  They took many gifts and the wish of an heir in their heart.

The Raja and his army crossed the land and came close.  They set up their camp close to Guru Sahib’s Damdama.  Tents were set up.  The Raja’s Dhera was set.  When it was night, the King slept.  He got up early the next day and took a bath.  He gathered his gifts and started off bare foot towards the Guru’s house.  He was really humble and filled with faith.  He brought his queen and minister with him.  They came to Guru Sahib and bowed to him.  The Guru is the dispeller of doubts and pain.  The King sat down with Guru ji’s permission.  He had respect and fear in his heart.  He said to Guru Sahib with humility: “oh Guru Sahib, you are the knower of all hearts.  I can’t say anything to you.  You already know what I wish for.”  The minister of the King folded his hands and spoke: “you came here and saved thousands in our area.  Our fortune has come to fruition.  Guru Sahib, you have fulfilled many people’s wishes in the East.  Please fulfill our King’s wish and make us your Sikhs.  Please guide us on the right path so that we may be one with Akaal Purakh.  Please come to our home and make it pure with your holy feet.  Whoever comes to your court, you fulfill their wishes.  We have heard your praises from many.  We came with our wishes as well.  We have heard of your glory.  The Raja has love and Bhagti for your feet in his heart.”  Guru Sahib ji then spoke: “I have come here to visit the Teeraths of the East and bathe in them.  I came to Brahmaputra because Bishan Singh asked me to come here.  His situation is now resolved.  I have given the donations and done the Yagnas in many ways (Langar).  The Sikh Sangat of this area were given the sermon of Akaal Purakh and they have connected.  Tell me clearly what is it that you would like.  I will listen to your request here as it is not possible for me to go further from this point to your home.”  The Raja and his people stayed the night there.

That night the king went back to his camp and came back to Guru Sahib the next day.  The King spoke to Guru Sahib: “Sri Satguru ji, I have heard of your glories and you have blessed this land by planting your feet here.  I have heard your praises and we wanted to do your Darshan.  You made this land pure by coming here.  The people are blessed by your coming.”  Guru Sahib noticed that the King could not say from his own mouth what he wanted to.  Guru ji knew he wanted a son.  Guru Sahib spoke in sweet words, knowing his wishes: “oh King, just say what you want to say and don’t be shy.  Why are you holding back?  This is Guru Nanak Dev ji’s house, there is no need to feel embarrassed.”  The King spoke and made his humble request: “you are the giver of all.  Guru Sahib, we have tried many times to have a son.  We are worried.  There is no one to take the crown.  We are getting old and don’t have much time left.  Our bodies are aging.  Please bless us so that we may have a son.  Give us the next king.  Please bless us oh Compassionate One.  Your feet are our support.  We look towards your blessing and we have no other alternative.  We leave everything behind.  We want to become your Sikhs because we know you will protect us in this world and in the afterlife.  We have met many saints and worshipped them and Devatas and Devis; but we did not have a son.  We did Poojas and gave many gifts.  We are really worried now.  We come to the shelter of the Satguru.  I am confident now that you will fulfill our dreams like the Kalapbrish.  Please take my worries away.  I have faith that I will have a son now.”  Guru Sahib heard the king’s plea and held up to his old promise of honouring his servants.  Guru ji saw the humility in the Raja’s heart and said to the King: “I will give you the boon!”  Guru Sahib had a ring with his symbol on it that he used to stamp his command letters.  Guru Sahib took his ring and stamped the thigh of the King and said: “your son will be my Sikh.  He will follow the Dharam.  You will have a son.  The stamp that I imprinted on your thigh will show up on the forehead of your son.  My symbol will be seen on his forehead his whole life.  He will be a religious and pious King.”  The king and queen were over-joyed.  They received the Charanamrit from Guru ji and became his Sikhs.  They returned to their kingdom with great happiness.

After a few months, a son was born to the king and queen.  The son had a birthmark on his forehead.  The mark was the exact same symbol as Guru ji’s ring, just as Guru Sahib had said it would.

Guru Sahib was given the news of the King’s son being born.  Guru Sahib ordered the King to name his son “Rattan Rai.”  When the son was 12 years old, he came to meet Guru Gobind Singh ji and brought many gifts for Guru ji.  He brought an elephant for Guru ji that would clean his shoes and do Chaur on his head.  Guru Gobind Singh ji would ride that elephant as well.  Rattan Rai also brought a weapon for Guru Sahib that would change into 5 different weapons when pressed.

Now the Katha will go to the birth of Guru Gobind Singh ji.  After a few months of leaving Patna and travelling towards Kaamroop with Bishan Singh and the Sangat (including 700 Sadhoos and saints), Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib ji received the blissful news of Guru Gobind Singh ji’s birth.  Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib ji gave a lot of donations.  The Sahibzada was born!  The Dhundhabs were played.  The Naubats played.  Bishan Singh was very happy that the son of Guru ji was born in Patna.  He ordered all of the big and small Nagaras to sound and fired salutation rounds of canons, 101 times.  Many celebrations were held.  Bishan Singh gave many donations to the poor.  He donated golden bracelets to the poor.  The Sikh that came to give the news from Patna, Guru Tegh Bahadhur ji released him from all bondages and the cycle of birth and death.  He was happy in both Loks.  Singers, actors, Bhatts, Dooms, Maraasis, and performers put on their shows in celebration.  They received a lot of donations and were happy.  The people of Assam, Bengal and the other areas around there held many celebrations in honor of the Guru’s son.  The East was happy that peace was restored.  The army celebrated.  People were given donations and gifts.

After Bishan Singhs tasks were all fulfilled, Guru Sahib then started to look towards Patna.  Now I will state the Katha of the birth of the Tenth Guru with love.  As he played in Patna and did many great tasks; as the celebrations happened; I will state the Katha in beautiful Chands now.

12-12 Dasmesh Avatar

The pure form of happiness and the ultimate celebration, the Guru is that form.  The highest glory and the strongest energy is the Guru.  To uphold the ancient traditions; to destroy the ego of the tyrants; to protect the saints; to punish the sinners; to uproot the Turks; Guru Gobind Singh ji has taken an Avatar in this world.

Guru Gobind Singh ji is a lion that stood in the middle of the river and made it flow upstream.  He is the Teerath (place of pilgrimage, holy site) for the Hindus, who made them pure again.  He made sure their existence was stable.  He is the destroyer of sin.  He created the supreme Panth, the Khalsa, and came by the order of Akaal Purakh.  He is the Gareeb Nivaaj who blessed this Kavi (Santokh Singh).  He formed the brotherhood of the Pure Ones (Khalsa) and joined the order himself.  Guru Gobind Singh ji made poor people like me (Kavi Santokh Singh) in to kings.  The slanderers flew and the owls, who cannot see in the sunlight, could no longer prosper.  Like the sun warming the Earth, you warmed the hearts of all with Bhagti.  When the sun comes out, the stars hide; the egotistical people hid in front of him.  Guru Gobind Singh ji made the tyrants run and established the Khalsa as the supreme.  The darkness of Adharma was dispelled, all at once.  You are the Avatar of the sun that made lotuses, like me, blossom.  You made artists bloom and gave art, life.

Mata Gujri ji gave birth to a beautiful baby that was a unique being.  While she gave birth, an eight-cupped ghee deva was lit.  When Guru ji came, the deva’s light fell faint, as this sun (Guru ji) was too radiant.  It was the month of Poh, Sudhi 7th, Amritvela (3 AM), the whole house was filled with light in Patna.  There was light everywhere.  The nurses and midwives celebrated and gave Mata Nanaki ji their congratulations.  They were all happy and praised the baby boy.  They served her well.  The servants and maids ran around and served the whole home.  They met each other and praised the Guru: “the Sahibzada has been born in the Guru’s home!  The whole world is happy!”  The whole world, nature, saints and fakirs sensed the Avatar of the energy of Akaal Purakh.  The down trodden, the poor, the weak; all felt at ease.

When Mata Nanaki ji saw her grandson; there was no amount of joy that matched her emotion.  She remembered her husband, Guru Hargobind Sahib ji’s words of her all-powerful grandson being born.  The baby was blooming like a lotus flower; like the glow of the full moon.  The morning came and the news spread throughout Patna and to all the houses of the Sikhs.  The Sangat got together at Patna Sahib.  Everyone celebrated in their own way for the coming of the 10th incarnation of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  They sang the Shabads of Sri Satguru ji with great love.  Many Rababs were strung and the Mridangs sounded.  Shabad in Raags were done.  The Shabad was illuminating.  Karah Prashaad was made and openly distributed.  Ardaas happened in the Sangat before the Prashaad was distributed.  They all saw themselves as fortunate and said: “Dhan is the Guru!”  The Rababis (musicians) and Taadhis (folk musicians) came to sing.  They gave their well-wishes.  The Kleeves, Bhatts, Miraashis and Hijras came to sing and dance.  The Devatas and the wives of the Devatas came to see and join in the celebration in disguise.  The wives of the Devatas came in disguise.  They danced to the songs of joy.  They gave the Matas their congratulations.  Bells, kungroos (jingling anklets) and tulls (bells) rang while they sang songs in Raag Bilawal.  They clapped to the Taals and stomped their feet with kungroos, sounding aloud.  Their bodies matched the taal and showed the raag through their dances.  When they changed the Raags, their faces and appearance changed and matched the emotion of the Raag.  They danced and sang the songs and grabbed the attention of anyone looking upon them.

There was such a crowd in the house of Guru Tegh Bahadhur ji that you could not see the floor.  Next came the Gandarvs (Raagis of Sach Khand).  They took on human forms and came to sing the glories of Akaal Purakh.  They played many instruments, not seen to humans before.  The people of Patna were surprised to see these singers and dancers.  They wondered where they came from.  They had never seen these people and wondered from which country they were from.  They said: “These people are not from here.  Their clothes, their songs and their dances are new to us.  From which Desh are they from?  Their Clothes are different.”  They were all mesmerized by their Raags, songs and dances.  Raags have the ability to take us out of our senses.  When we are above our senses, we become Brahamgyaani.  The people of Patna lost their senses.  They couldn’t even ask the people who they were.  The performers sang for 2 hours and bowed to the house while going back to their worlds.  The people were surprised to see these celebrators disappear.  They couldn’t tell who the singers and performers were.  They showered many types of flowers as they left.

The gardeners of Patna brought many garlands of flowers and came to see the Guru as they heard.  They bowed to Guru ji.  They hung the flowers on the doors and received money from Mata Nanaki ji and Mama Kirpal Chand ji.  The Khusray (Hijras) and Kleevs (non-binary gender) came to dance and received money for their performances.  Many people came and were happy.  A great celebration happened in the Sangat.  Everyone came to the Guru’s home.  Whatever wishes they had, they were all fulfilled.

The Jyotishi came and made the birth chart.  He looked at the birth chart, Lagan and Mahoorat and said: “wow, there has never been such a birth chart before!  His jog and Mahoorat are great!  He will relieve many people’s pains and his name will stay glorified for the rest of the ages.  The 4 Padarthas will be in his hand.  He will have the wealth of the world in his hands.  Everyone will worship his feet.  He will give salvation to all and everyone will bow to him, Hindu and Muslim.  Though, one thing worries me.”  Mama Kirpal Chand ji was sitting next to the astrologer.  The astrologer continued: “what I have said before is all true but this child is born in the house of the Guru but one thing is very interesting and worrisome to me: he will be praised but when he becomes 5 years of age, he will play with weapons.  He will play with bows, arrows, swords and guns.  He will talk of battles and war as he grows older.  He will wage war in his life and kill thousands, millions with his hands.  He will be a warrior and will slay many.  He will fight wars with great armies.  His lagan is for war.  He will kill Lakhs.  His army will be a special one; one not seen on this earth before.  His army will never diminish.  His one soldier will fight millions.  His glory will spread in every direction.  The army will establish Dharma in all the world.  He will stand like a pillar in the battlefield.  His praise will spread in every direction.  His command will spread.  He will establish the Dharma.  He will be the most charitable donner and will donate millions.  He will be a warrior with the most patience and confidence.  He will be a scholar and Pandit unmatched of all the Vidyas.  He will be a master of 52 languages.  His strength will be second to none.  His arms will be very powerful that will punish the sinners.  He will be a Jitindriya, in full control of his mind and Indriyas.  He will be the wisest amongst men.  He will have a big heart.  He will be the light of the Sodhi clan.  He will be the highest human.”  The Jyotishi praised Guru ji, a lot.  Mamma Kirpal Chand ji and the other elders were really happy to hear the astrologer.  They gave the Jyotishi a lot of money and gifts for coming.

The celebrations were grand.  The Sangat was in bliss.  The citizens of Patna came in great numbers bearing gifts.  The Sikhs of Patna made a lot of Panchamrit.  They wore expensive and glamourous clothes that would shine like lightening in the clouds.  They came to see the Guru and sang Shabads: “Dhan Guru Nanak Dev ji Maharaj.”  They came to the door, did their Ardaas and bowed their heads with faith and hope.  As the news spread, many more people would come to visit the Guru and bow to him.  As some left, more came.  People came in groups and brought gifts to Satguru ji’s home.  Many rich businessmen came and brought expensive gifts.  They had faith in their hearts.  They praised Guru ji as they came.  They came to see the son of the Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib ji.  They praised Guru Tegh Bahadhur ji: “Sri Guru Tegh Bahadhur ji is the complete Guru!  His curse and boons become reality.  He is a warrior of his words.  Guru Sahib has blessed the Sikhs of Patna.  He gave us whatever we asked for.  A Sahibzada is born to him and he will also continue to bless everyone.  He will protect the Sikhs and give them happiness.  Guru ji is omnipotent and is fully capable.  The Devatas wish to serve such a great and powerful Guru.  He helps people in both Loks and has a very calm heart.  He came all the way to Patna from Punjab to bless us with compassion.  He came to live in Patna.  He blessed us.  Guru Sahib has gone to another Desh.  He will be back and bless us again.  We will do his Darshan and he will destroy our pains.  We are blessed to be the Sikhs of the Guru.  We are fortunate.  We were happy to serve the mother and wife of Guru ji, now we will serve the son of the Guru.  Our good Karma came to fruition.  As we do his Seva, we are in joy.  We get the joys of both Loks.  We will take our kids to do the Darshan of the Guru’s son as well.  Our obstacles will be destroyed.”  In this way, the people of Patna praised Guru ji.  The Sikhs would praise Guru ji and come to see Guru ji after their morning Nitnem.  They wanted to meet the son of Guru ji, first thing in the morning.  They came to the door of Guru ji and folded their hands.  They didn’t even drink water before coming to see Guru ji.  People would come everyday to bow before opening up their shops.  They came in the evenings too, after closing up their shops.

12-13 The Celebration of the Avatar

The Gem of the Sodhis was born in the Vikram month of Poh (December), Sudhi (moon phase towards full moon) 7th day from new moon, 1723 (Vikram); December 22, 1666 C.E. It was the beautiful time.

When it was the last watch of the night, going into dawn, the Devatas came and showered the baby with flowers.  They praised him by singing Aartis and blowing conches.  A sweet fragrance spread throughout the area.  The people that were awake at that time sensed that a great Avatar had come into the world.  They were surprised to smell the sweet fragrance, that came all of a sudden.  They had never smelled such a fragrance before: “where is this coming from?” they said.  Mata Nanaki ji saw all of the positive signs of the birth of a great saint: “there is so much joy with his birth!”  She remembered the words of her husband: “you will live a long life.  You will see our grandson.  the Gem of the family will be born.  He will spread the name of Guru Nanak Dev ji, far and wide.  He will spread the Panth in a beautiful way.”  Mata Nanaki ji was happy thinking about her husband’s words: “he was happy when he said this to me.  His words will become reality.”  She had a lot of joy in her heart and called a person to write a letter to her son, Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib ji.  She dictated the letter: “a son with a pure heart is born to you!  I have seen many positive signs when he was born.  Happiness has come.  Guru Nanak Dev ji has blessed us with a great being.  My wish has been fulfilled!  This house is so much more beautiful now.  Come back home.”  She had the letter written and sent to Kamroop to be delivered to Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib ji: “go to him right away, where Sri Gur Tegh Bahadhur ji is.”

The letter was given to Guru Sahib and read out.  The Sikhs celebrated!  Bishan Singh and the army started to celebrate.  The messenger was given the peace of the two worlds and his bonds were broken.  Guru Sahib then ordered a letter to be written: “I am going to the Desh of Kamroop.  I will return when the King’s work is done.  I will come home then.  Raise the Sahibzada with great love and care.  Don’t try to scare him.”

The letter of Guru ji reached Patna where celebrations were continuing.  This was during the time when Guru Tegh Bahadhur ji was going to Kamroop.  Mata Nanaki ji was quite old.  She was reciting the names of all the Gurus from Guru Nanak Dev ji and walking around the house: “please remove all the obstacles and be by our sides every step of the way.  Please protect my grandson and make him grow, like the moon.”  A Jyotishi was called who noted the time and date of the birth and went home.  He came back after a few days and sat down beside Mata Nanaki ji and Mamma Kirpal Chand ji.  “The birth was in Poh and Sudhi 7th, Sunday, 3 AM.  He was born during a very powerful time.  The Lagan has prosperous positions.  The planets all want us to notice them and their positions.  They are all in the best positions possible.  The Sun, Saturn, Venus and Mars are present in good positions, the chart is of an Avatar’s.  His glory will spread far and his wealth will have no limits.  The land and sea will sing his praises.  He will be known throughout the world.  He will be a warrior like Ram Chander and will punish the sinners like Krishan with anger.  He will be like the Bhavan Avatar: he was born small and became really big to pacify Raja Ball; there was no one like him; this child is born small and has little wealth, but when he matures, he will be very powerful and his wealth will have no limits.  The wealth will come very quickly when he grows up.”  The Jyotishi read out the Kundli and Mata Nanaki ji gave him a lot of money by which he was really happy.  The Jyotishi gave his well wishes for the new born child and said: “may the Sahibzada live long and provide happiness for the whole family.”

Mata Nanaki ji was really happy and took note of all the virtues that the Jyotishi spoke of.  She would pick up the baby and look at his face with deep love.  She ordered for various religious traditions and Yagnas in the baby’s honor to be carried out.  She kept the baby protected inside and gave many types of donations to anyone coming to her door.  She gave the donations while speaking sweet words.  The news spread throughout the city that the Guru’s home gave a lot of donations.  Guru Tegh Bahadhur ji was in his mid 40’s then.  There were many prayers done for the birth of the child.  The whole family felt blessed and happy.

One day, Mata Nanaki ji spoke to Kirpal Chand ji: “in the year of Samvat Vikram, 1678, Maghar the 2nd, with the Sun in the south direction, my son Guru Tegh Bahadhur was born.  He is now 45 years old.  Now it is Samvat Vikram 1723, Guru Nanak Dev ji has blessed us and so I saw the son of my son.  We have worshipped the 8 Joganis and bowed for my son’s happiness.  I have had made Karah Prashaad for all the Sikhs and sent it to their homes.”  She was happy giving.  She said: “our son has been born with a lot of wishes.  May he live long and be with Mukti.  May the whole community be happy.  Sri Gujri ji is a wise woman and wife of the Guru; she waited a long time for a son as well.  Sri Parmeshwar ji fulfilled her wish.  My son is travelling to other lands.  His son was born after he left.  May the son of the Guru live forever.  My eyes and chest are cool after seeing the baby.”  Everyone praised and had great hopes.  The celebrations continued.  Mata Nanaki ji protected her grandson.  People of the city would come all day long.  Thousands came to see the baby.  The women would come and sing their songs of joy and visit the new born baby.  They would bow and see the baby from a distance as Mata Nanaki ji kept a strict boundary for visitors.  The women would praise the handsome baby.  Mata Nanaki ji would give the baby a bath everyday.  She would massage all the toes and fingers of the baby and clean him with silk cloths.  She would straighten out to touch his fingers and toes.  She would look at his lotus petal-like eyes.  His toe nails were like manis.  It was as though Lakshmi herself set them.  Meditating on Guru Gobind Singh ji made the sins go away.  He would wave his feet while laying down.  Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib ji told Mata Gujri ji of the previous life of this baby.  When Mata Gujri ji would say the Baby’s name from his last birth, the baby would laugh out loud upon hearing his name.  After conversations with Akaal Purakh, Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib ji told Mataji his name for this birth: Go= the World, Bind= to achieve; therefor “Gobind” was to be his name.  The name “Singh,” was given by the Goddess when she saw millions of Rakshishes killed.  The light of Akaal Purakh was the blessing of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji.  His Jot was added and so the name “Guru Gobind Singh ji” came about.  The Grandmother would take care and play with the baby all day long.  She would carry him in her lap.  She made his lotus like face laugh and smile.  She was happy with the love.  Both, daughter-in-law and mother-in-law, would take care of and raise the child.  Happiness was in their hearts.  They would protect him in every way.  Everyday, the baby would grow and become stronger. The Daddi would stay close to him all the time.  Kavi Santokh Singh is a sacrifice unto the Guru, who took away all of our pains and problems.

12-14 Bheekhan Shah from Kudaam

In the village of Kudaam, there lived a Fakir named Bheekhan Shah ji.  He lived with his teacher in the village Tuska.  He served his teacher.  The day Guru Gobind Singh ji took birth, to establish the Dharma, Bheekhan Shah was up in the early hours of the morning to do his Nimaaz (Prayers in Islam Faith).  He sensed that Akaal Purakh had taken birth in human form to guide humanity to reach its highest potential.  The Turks had adopted a very negative mentality.  They had become tyrants.  The people had become filled with anger, jealousy and bad deeds.  To pacify them, and to destroy their kingdom and radiance; Akaal Purakh has taken on human form and came as the Guru.  Bheekhan Shah ji was performing his Nimaaz and sensed all this.  As he was reading his Nimaaz with all his fellow mates, he got up all of a sudden.  As all the others were facing the West towards Mecca to offer their Nimaaz, Bheekhan Shah ji turned towards the East.  He closed his eyes, folded his hands and sat down with respect.  His mind was now focused on to the new born Guru Gobind Singh ji.  He prayed in his heart with a deep love while bowing his head: “Allah, Dusht Daman, you are here.  Please except my salutations and Salam (Muslim greeting).” He bowed his head and performed the Koonce (Muslim practice towards Allah), three times.  His face was extremely calm.  There was bliss in his heart.  It was like a pauper receiving the Paras.  His mates were all shocked to see Bheekhan Shah ji turn towards the opposite direction of Mecca.  They wondered why he bowed towards the direction of the sun rising, like Hindus do: “he has become humble all of a sudden.”  They folded their hands and asked him: “you have turned your back towards the West.  We have never seen you do this before.  You are folding your hands towards where Hindus bow to in the morning.  We wanted to remind you that we Muslims bow towards the West.  Please follow the Deen.  You’ve always followed this before for all the five prayers.  Why did you give your Salam towards the East?  Who are you bowing towards?”  Bheekhan Shah ji said: “listen to me, I will tell you what I saw.  When I was offering my Nimaaz, I connected to Akaal Purakh and I sensed that the Master of the Universe has come to Earth in the East.  Akaal Purakh has come in human form to break the ego of the pride-filled tyrant kings.  The people who have violated the Dharam, he has come to break their backs.  His glory will spread throughout the Trilok.  He will bust the Nagaras of the Turks.  He will destroy the fear of the Sikh Sangat and will protect the poor.  He will make everyone recite the true name, Satnam.  He will give rise to his own Panth.  Aurangzeb wants the whole world to convert to Islam, but the Guru will make a third religion.  He was born this night that just passed.  As the first rays of the sun in the morning dispel darkness, so has this child’s birth illuminated the hearts of the faithful.  I connect with Akaal Purakh every night, but today, I was in bliss.  I received this message in my Bandagi.  This Avatar, Prophet will belong to all.  Hindu and Muslim.  He is an Anantkalah Avatar (Avatar’s are categorized by 16 Kalahs or powers.  Ram Chander ji had 14 and Krishan ji had 16; but Guru Nanak Dev ji and his incarnations were limitless) who is born in Patna; which is in the eastern direction.  I will now go to see this child.  I will bow to his feet and ask him to destroy my sins.  I will make him my Guru and ask him to save me.  By his Darshan, my sins will be destroyed and my bad karma will erase.  My bad Karma of mind and body will be destroyed.  I will take my students with me as well.”  Sai Bheekhan Shah ji got ready to go and took two of his students (who were ready to travel the long distance).  These students were his dearest students.  He told the other student to wait till he gets back: “I will be back in a few days.”

He grabbed a walking stick and set off.  He was always coloured in Allah’s love.  He picked up the Quran and his praying mat.  He and his two students started off for the East.  They walked slowly.  They travelled during the day and rested during the night.  They crossed many villages and jungles.  Bheekhan Shah ji and his two students crossed Ganga and Jamuna and then Delhi, they had arrived.  They crossed many Desh.  They eventually reached Patna, where the praises of the Guru’s son’s birth were quite widespread.  The gardens were lush and the trees were filled with fruits.  The flowers were very fragrant.  The flowers were bright.  Fruits and flowers were in abundance.  Banana trees and coconut trees were lined in abundance.  Bheekhan Shah ji was happy to see the Rai bel, Champak, and Jasmine flowers.  He was mesmerized by the beautiful plants.  The gardens made everyone happy and in bliss.  The Sai was anxious to see the Guru and would pray to see him, as soon as possible.  There were many streets and markets in Patna.  The 3 saints would pass the whole city through the bazaars and homes.  They saw many businessmen with golden jewellery.  Step by step, they crossed the shops and villages with bliss.  They finally reached the place of Guru ji.  Where the Sikh Sangat was sitting with their wishes waiting to be fulfilled, the 3 sat down with everyone else with joy.

When they saw the right time, Bheekhan Shah ji got up and did an Ardaas.  He folded his hands to Kirpal Chand ji and other prominent Sikhs seated there, and said: “the person who is here to relieve the pain of all and spread happiness to the Sikhs, we wish to see the Sahibzada who is born.  We wish to do his Darshan.  We are from Punjab and have travelled for many days.  We wish to see the baby now and be fulfilled of our wishes.  We have only come to see the child.  We have no other task in this city except to see the light of Akaal Purakh in human form.  We come to the Guru’s Darbar.”  Listening to the Fakir, Mamma Kirpal Chand ji said: “welcome Fakir ji.  Please stay and rest.”  Kirpal Chand ji went inside and told the mothers: “there is a Syed Fakir from Kudaam, Punjab that has arrived and wishes to see the Sahibzada.  He is really eager and anxious to see him.”  When Mata Gujri ji and all the servants heard this, they all got suspicious.  They all sat and heard this.  They were all concerned of why this Fakir was here: “Aurangzeb is not nice to the Hindus.  If he finds out about the baby being born, he may call the baby to Delhi.  Why has this Fakir come?  We wonder why.  Aurangzeb is against us and loves conflicts.”  They were afraid that he was sent by Aurangzeb to perform an unpleasant act.  Mata ji spoke: “Guru Tegh Bahadhur ji is not here.  He would have taken care of everything.  When Sri Guru Harkrishan Sahib ji was 8 years old, Aurangzeb called him to Delhi and wanted to see him.  Guru Harkrishan Sahib ji came to Delhi but did not visit Aurangzeb nor did he let him come to see him.  Instead, he left his body.  Aurangzeb is drunk on the liquor of power.  These Turks do such things that shouldn’t be done.  We should ignore the Turks.  We wonder if this Fakir is on the emperor’s side.  Speak to the Fakir with sweet words.  Tell the Fakir that the baby is too young to see anyone but speak to him nicely.”

Kirpal Chand ji got up and came outside to speak to the Fakir: “listen Fakir ji, you are a great saint and you are aware of traditions.  You are wise and follow the Dharma.  The child is not yet 3 months old, that is why we have not shown the baby to anyone.  He is a baby and his body is soft.  The air can be too cold for him and can make him sick.  For these reasons, he stays inside.  He is too young.  Please come back some other time.  We will surely let you see him.  By that time, Sri Guru Sahib will be back and you will be able to meet Guru Sahib ji as well.  Doing his Darshan, you will be blessed.”  The Fakir reiterated his plea: “this great being who has taken birth, is not weak.  You do not understand his powers.  He will send the sinners to Dojak.  He is the limitless power of Akaal Purakh.  He is beloved to his devotees.  He gives them bliss.  Why are you worried?  He is like the sun who makes darkness fly away.  Do not fall to the doubts in your hearts.  Throw away your fears and don’t be concerned.  This baby will blow fear away like a Diva being blown out.  He is the master of the universe.  He has come as an Avatar to establish Dharma.  I am going to sit here and won’t get up till I see him.  He is the master of all the hearts and he has called me to see him.  Until he gives your hearts the orders to let me see him, I will stay here.”  Kirpal Chand ji went back and said: “I tried to tell the Fakir to come back some other day, but that Fakir is stubborn.  He sat down in the doorway and refuses to go away.  He said he is not going to eat or drink till he sees the baby.  I don’t know what is in his heart but I can say for sure that his bodily actions show signs of love and adoration.  He looks like a devoted saint.  His words are true and he is a true fakir.  He is speaking Punjabi and is from Punjab.  I have tried telling him to go, but he says that the baby is not afraid of anything and is much more powerful than anyone of us know.  He will stay till he sees the baby.  He is very stubborn.”  Mata Gujri ji was not convinced as the baby was too precious to her.  She said: “How can I send him outside?  I don’t want to take any risks.  His body is too soft.  For this reason, the baby stays inside.”

12-15 Bheekhan Shah’s Determined Demand

Bheekhan Shah ji and his students spent the whole night outside the door.  They did Simran with their Malas all night long and did not eat or drink anything.  They sat all night long.  He prayed to Guru ji: “please give me your sight, oh complete Prabhoo!  I have come from Punjab and walked a long journey. My wish is to see you.  You are omniscient.  You are great and your father and grandfather are great warriors.  You are the master of hearts and knower of all.  Please convince your family and Sikhs to let me see you.  They see you as a child.  Please bring pity into their hearts so they let me see you.  Please fulfill my wish.  Please see my love, you know the depths of all the hearts.  Please let me see you.  Give me your Darshan that is beloved to my mind.”  The Fakir kept on reciting his prayers and thought of the virtues of Akaal Purakh.

It was eventually morning, and the Sikhs noticed that Bheekhan Shah ji was still doing his bandagi (penance) and Simran of Guru Nanak Dev ji in his heart with his mala.  The Sikhs saw him and said: “he sat here with his Mala and did Simran of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  He wants his Darshan.  He did not eat or drink all day and night.”  Bheekhan Shah ji continued: “I will not leave without seeing you, I will stay seated here till I get to see you.  The house of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji is grand, as both Hindus and Muslims are considered equals.  There is no discrimination, only faith is measured.  The tradition of this house is well-known.  It is not hidden.”  Kirpal Chand ji and the other Sikhs heard the Fakir’s prayer and went back to Mata Gujri ji.  Kirpal Chand ji said: “this Peer is a powerful Dervish.  He has the love of the Guru in his heart.  We can see that.  He truly wants to visit the Guru’s son.  He hasn’t eaten food and is doing Simran since yesterday.  He is sitting on his prayer mat and focused on his Simran of Khuddah.  His demand is to see the baby.  He is not concerned of hunger or thirst.  He said he will only get up once he sees the baby.  He is determined.  Mataji, we need to consider this situation very carefully.  We don’t want a Fakir to die of hunger at our doorstep.  We don’t want to regret this.  This will be a grave sin on us.”  Mata Nanaki ji said: “you are all very intelligent, I want you to carefully think about this in your hearts.  We have received this baby after many years.  In this age, people have grandchildren.  Look at the penance we have been through to receive this child.  I prayed to the elder Gurus to have a grandson.  I did Ardaas all the time.  I asked for a powerful grandson because this baby’s father is really calm.  My son, Guru Tegh Bahadhur ji did a Tapasya for this son too.  Akaal Purakh, Parbrahm Parmeshwar was meditated upon and many yogas were done.  He sang his praises and called out to his name.  Kirtan was done; Simran and glories were sung for this baby.  My son chanted Akaal Purakh’s name.  Akaal Purakh blessed us with this baby.  It is hard to make the Master happy.  The Master gave us this baby.  My son has not even seen his baby.  How can I let anyone else see the baby?  This person is from another religion.  It is not right to show him.  The baby is too young.  I am not convinced that I should show the baby to anyone.  I need to protect him.  I am the grandmother; I am responsible for him.  I have to protect him from heat and cold.  I can’t let bad sights or sounds come in front of the baby.  The Fakir is from another land.  This person is a stranger and Guru Sahib is out of the state.  I am not convinced.  Baby’s can catch evil eyes.  I want all of you people to consider these things.  Make him get up.  Ask the Fakir nicely to have food with ghee and sweets and ask him to discontinue his determination.  If he needs clothes or money, please do his seva.  See what he needs.  The child cannot be taken outside without his father seeing him first.  Serve him well and make sure he is happy.  He is from another land.  Make him happy.”

Everyone returned after listening to Mata Nanaki ji and said to the Fakir: “Peer ji, mothers are attached to their children and the child is very young.  You are asking to see such a young child.  Which mother will allow that?  He is only a few days old.  The Sahibzada has not been taken outside yet.  His own father has not seen him.  We are glad that you are here.  Please have Langar and we will give you clothes and money.  Have all the Langar you need.  Be satiated.  Accept our Seva.  To bring the child out is impossible till his father has not seen him.  Mataji and the grandmother have not agreed to bringing the child out.  Please come back some other time.  Meet the Guru and be happy.  Bless us.  Please accept our request and have some Langar.  You are connected to Akaal Purakh, we want you not to be stubborn.  You are a good Dervish.  You are coloured by the love of the Parvadigaar.  You can stay here till his father is back.  Please accept our apologies, as we did not complete your request.  We know great saints are forgiving like the Earth.  Please forgive us.  We are concerned that you have not eaten.  Please eat and rest.  You have sat here quietly in a single state of mind in front of the Guru’s Darbar.  It is not good to sit here so long.  When Guru Sahib comes, you may see the baby.”  Bheekhan Shah ji, who had deep faith, said: “when I entered the boundary of Patna, I bowed and made a promise that I will see the baby first and then eat food with joy.  I have travelled thousands of miles and eaten along the way.  As soon as I entered Patna, I did not eat.  I will be happy when my travels will be a success.  My life will be a success.  I have nothing to give and don’t require any charities.  I am a Fakir.  Akaal Purakh feeds me and gives me what I need.  I only need one thing:  I just need to see the baby to save my soul.  I wish to see the Gareeb Nivaaj.  I am a beggar of the house of the Guru.  I wish to cut the pain of my life.  As you can, please let me see the child.  Please accept my request.  If you don’t show me the child, I’ll stay here on your doorstep and not eat anything.  I will focus my attention on Allah, and recite his name.  I am a Fakir and can endure a great amount of pain.  I can stay hungry for months.  I don’t need sleep either.  This is not hard for me.  We have fought ourselves, to rid of our needs.  If you don’t show me the child, there is nothing I can do, but remain here.  I will get up and eat when I see the baby.  This is my determination.  The baby knows my wishes, my love and will fulfill it.”

Kirpal Chand ji and the other Sikhs saw the Fakir’s faith and determination.  They came back to Mata Nanaki ji.  They folded their hands and said: “Mata ji, the Fakir is determined not to get up and will not eat till he sees the child.  Mata ji, think and advise us: shall we let him die at our doorstep?  He is tired from his travels and he has not eaten for a whole day.  He spent the night sitting by the door.  It is now afternoon and he has not eaten anything since he has been in Patna.  He is still calm and has no pain of hunger.  He is a true saint and talks very sweetly.  He showed no sign of anger or pain.  He is a Fakir connected to Akaal Purakh.  He keeps saying this child is a messenger of Allah; a great being sent by Akaal Purakh and is an Avatar.  He has come from afar and wishes for his Darshan.”  When Mata Nanaki ji heard this, her mind changed and she spoke: “Listen Kirpal Chand, set out a bed in the middle of the doorway.  Have your armed soldiers nearby and on guard.  All the Sikhs and servants should be close by.  Set out expensive carpets and have the Rababis sing Gurbani.  Call the Keertanis and tell them to begin singing Kirtan.”  Kirpal Chand ji carried out her orders.  A bed was set and carpet was rolled out.  Sandalwood essence was sprayed.  All the Sikhs were told that Guru Sahib’s son will be shown to everyone in the Divan.  Everyone was told to come to the place in front of the house if they wanted to see the Baby.  The Sikhs came with joy, bringing many types of gifts.  The baby was wearing a colourful shirt.  The border was shiny.  A small dastaar was tied.  The Sikhs all heard and came with eagerness.  The Sikhs brought gifts and jewelry for the baby and finally got to present them to Guru Sahib.  All of the Sikhs and servants came.
