11.11 – 11.15

11-11 Dheermal hatches a plan to fire bullets.

All of the fake Gurus and Masands came to Dheermal.  They were all worried and jealous.  They thought of many schemes.  One Masand folded his hands and was about to speak to Dheermal.  He was the head Masand who took care of all of the transactions in Dheermal’s home.  He was rich with a richly-sized body (he was “well-fed”).  Everyone listened to him, including Dheermal.  He was a follower of Dheermal.  His name was Sheeha Masand.  He was always against Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib ji.  Sheeha was a greedy and corrupt person.  The fool was not familiar to the righteous path.  He said: “listen Guru ji, your glory is about to finish.  Your Chacha has set up his Ghaddi.  He did not fear you, even a little bit.  Since the Sikhs had been coming to us, we have not received as much money as your Chacha has earned in a few hours.  Your Chacha’s news hasn’t even spread yet.  The thousands that he has received, if he earns more, he will soon be able to keep an army, easily.  His wealth will grow.  Yours will decrease.  As much wealth that your grandfather, Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib ji, had, your Chacha will be equal to or wealthier than him.  You won’t be able to do anything then.  His power will put everyone into the shadows.  Now, the plant is small.  We can do as we wish.  We can make an effort now.  He doesn’t have any servants or warriors yet.  We can either arrest him and keep him with us or we can scare him so he doesn’t come out of his home.  We can kill him so nobody finds out about him.  We can take all his money he had coming to him today.  He has no right over that money.  We can scare him for the future.  We don’t want him to do this again.  Let’s take the servants and take all the money he has.  We can tell the Sangat not to bow to him.  The gifts he has, when the Sangat leaves, we can take all of the stuff and bring it here.  Whatever money he earned and the stuff he has, if we scare him today, then it will be good.  Otherwise, he will scare you.  Our money is going out.  We should take it back.  If we don’t do anything, you won’t get the stuff.  He will hide his money and gifts overnight.  He will keep servants and warriors.  He will become steady then.  We won’t be able to take him out if that happens.  It’s easy to pull a young sapling.  If it gets bigger, who can pull it then?  We need to do something for us today.  If the time passes, it will be useless to do anything then.”

Dheermal heard this and said: “I know my Chacha.  He is not greedy for money.  I know him since I was a child.  If he received all this money all of a sudden, he shouldn’t get to keep it.  We shouldn’t let that money go.  What will he do with it?  There is nothing equal to money.  The money that came for the Guru, it is good that it comes to my home.  The Sikh Sangat that knows the traditions, they see me as the Guru and worship me.  I am the brother of Sri Guru Har Rai ji.  When he was the Guru, I was also seen as the Guru and worshiped by the Sangat.  The Sangat came with money and worshiped me.  It was the same when my nephew was the Guru.  I am the greatest in every way.  It is my right.  This foreigner Sikh, Makhan Shah, shouldn’t interfere.  He didn’t do good.  He doesn’t know of my glory.  He made the Guru with his own decision.  We won’t let this deception go on.  This claim can’t go on.  I have one worry though: Makhan Shah has a lot of men with him.  I don’t want to fight him.  We should think about all this.  He shouldn’t fight us because he is a Sikh of the Guru and I am the son of the Guru.  How can he fight us?  The money he brought for the Guru, he gave to my Chacha.  He completed his wishes.  We brothers and family members can do what we wish.  Makhan Shah shouldn’t interfere.  I think we should take the money from my Chacha.”

Sheeha Masand said: “if you need to do a small task, you should prepare for a big task.  This makes the task easy then.  If you want to hunt a deer, you should take things to hunt a lion.  You may end up hunting a lion, who knows?  That person is considered wise.  His wealth grows.  You should make an effort to get the Gurta Ghaddi.  If we need to kill, let’s do it now.  If you want to arrest him, that’s good too.  If we remove your Chacha, only then will your glory grow like the moon from the 2nd to the full moon.  The task done with wisdom, that’s how it should be done.  If using strength is good, then don’t delay.  You have wisdom and strength.  We should sense the time and place.  Do what I say.  Take all of the money.  Complete your wish for the wealth.  The warriors you have, give them weapons.  Send a spy to your Chacha who can give us news of Makhan Shah leaving.  We will attack right then.  We will take all the money and the gifts.  We will cause chaos and make a fight.  The rifles will fire.  We will finish the conflict once and for all.  He won’t sit on the Ghaddi again.  He won’t be worshiped.  By one of these Sodhi Gurus dying, the others will get scared.  The Sangat will come to your home from then onwards.  You will be worshiped from every direction.  You can make your army grow.  The enemy being 100, 1,000 or 10,000; we can get a bigger army.  The more money we have, the more horses and soldiers we can have.  The army will make your glory look bigger.  You should keep an army and ride elephants with royal decorations like your grandfather.  Your glory will grow.  Your other brothers and Sodhis will fear you when they see all of this.  They will follow you.  Be on good terms with the Turkeshwar.  Give him expensive gifts.  Follow his orders and be the Guru with joy.  You can do as you wish.  You can rule without fear.  You can enjoy wealth and power.  Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji’s glory is great.  Sikhi exists in faraway lands.  They will bring many gifts for you.  Your treasury will be filled with money.  Thousands more will become your followers.  You will live like a king.  The best thing to do is to kill your Chacha.  Otherwise, this conflict will grow.”  Sheeha gave this opinion.  The more the evil Masand would speak, the more enticed Dheermal would get.  He approved the plan to shoot Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib ji.

For a little while, Dheermal went silent.  He thought to himself quietly: “what should I do?  The idea to kill my Chacha, I don’t think it’s a good one.  He is the brother of my father.  His name is Sri Tegh Bahadhur ji.  He is innocent.  He didn’t do anything bad to me.  He is a Mastana.  He doesn’t even speak to anyone.  He sits in his home and does Bhagti all the time.”  Baba Dheermal said: “oh Masand, the thing you said about killing my Chacha, I don’t like this idea.  Do the other things.  Don’t kill him.  I agree with the other things.  Prepare our men and give them weapons.  Go there with courage.  Bring the gifts and money without delay.  Nobody will stop you.  Go without fear.  Go when Makhan Shah goes to his Dhera.  Make sure there is nobody else there.  The Sangat should go home.  Go at noon.  Everyone will go home to eat food at that time.  Stay quiet till then.  Don’t tell anyone of your plan.”  Sheeha Masand heard this and this brought on a deeper rage within him.  He spoke with anger: “to make the Guru is in the hands of the Masands!  We can seat anyone we want on the Ghaddi!  We bring the Sikhs to worship the Guru.  The Sangat follows the Masands.  We can make them worship anyone we want to.  The Masands of the different lands, the Sangat follows them.  Everyone follows them.  Which Masands will go against you?  The ones who do, we can see to them.  They can try but will be killed.  If you don’t wish to kill your Chacha, we won’t stop.  We will kill him.  Whatever is the problem, you should destroy that thing without a doubt.  Otherwise there will be regret.  You would have lost the opportunity then.  When your relative grows, you won’t be able to control him then.  Your advice about not killing him, we won’t let go of the opportunity.  This everyday conflict will finish.  Let’s scare everyone.  The Guruship won’t run without doing this.  You can try all you want.  He will become a problem for you.  Take out this thorn now.”  The corrupt Masand gave Dheermal this advice.  He was drenched in greed for money.  He didn’t listen to Dheermal.  Sheeha wanted to do what he wanted to do.  He said to Dheermal: “you stay here.  Stay sitting on the Ghaddi.  Continue to take the Ardaas of the Sikhs.  This is a political matter more suited for me than you.  Don’t worry about anything else.  You don’t know about these things.  Problems like these will arise every day.  We have to do things with strategy and deception to run our ways.”

11-12 Dheermal’s Opposition continues.

Sheeha, the corrupt Masand, got together with the other men to think of a plan to commit sins.  They sent spies to Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib ji’s house.  They were ready to loot Guru ji’s home.

Bhai Makhan Shah ji was sitting with Guru Sahib for a while.  His wishes had all been fulfilled.  He was in bliss.  Bhai Makhan Shah said: “you have blessed me.  You gave me the joys of both worlds.  You fulfilled all my wants and have blessed me greatly, Guru ji.”  He kept touching Guru ji’s feet with his soft hands.  He spoke to Guru ji with love: “you gave your Darshan to the Sangat.  You pulled the roots of the corrupt people.  This is not the time to hide.  The Canopy will hang over your head.  You should become the leader of the Sikhs.  They want you to be their leader.  Support them and take their pain away.  The Sangat is without support.  They are tired of looking for the Guru.  Give them hope.  Give them your Darshan and take their love gifts.  See them as deserving of Gyaan.  Give them wisdom.  Your praise should spread.”  In this way, Bhai Makhan Shah ji and the other Sikhs sat with Guru ji.  Guru Sahib saw the love in Bhai Makhan Shah ji’s heart and was fulfilling all his wishes by blessing him.  As the day reached noon, there were many Sangats sitting there who were in bliss.  Bhai Makhan Shah ji got up, bowed, touched Guru Sahib’s feet and headed towards his own camp.  He had given all of the gifts to Guru ji.  He happily walked back to his Dhera.  As he walked back, he spoke to people about his experience.  He had deep conversations with them.  He told his men: “my wishes were fulfilled.  He helped me at sea.  He revealed this secret to me.  By his compassion I am being praised.  With my excuse, he was revealed.  My long travel from Kathiabaad was a success.  I got to see the Sangat as well.  I am happy in every way.  Guru ji blessed me in every way.  I don’t see anyone more fortunate than me.”  He reached his camp soon and had lunch with joy.  After lunch, he laid down to rest and had a very peaceful nap.

The Sangat slowly started to go back to their homes as well after visiting Guru Sahib.  They were all happy and praising the True Guru.  Their wishes were finally fulfilled.  Wherever the news was spreading about Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib ji, the Sikhs would come to see Guru ji.  The Divaan went on for an hour and a half.  When the Sangat all went back, Guru ji laid down to rest.  After his rest, the Guru Bhagavan got up and asked for his horse.  Hearing Guru ji’s orders, one of the servants saddled up Guru Sahib’s horse.  It was decorated nicely.  The horse was beautiful.  The saddle was beautiful.  The reins were tied.  The horse was untied and brought to Guru ji.  Guru ji came out of the home.  The horse was the “Chambi” (with big spots) colour.  Guru ji put his foot into the stirrup and jumped on to the horse.  The servant walked the horse outwards.  Guru ji then rode away on the horse.  After a while, Guru Sahib saw a nice shady area and got off the horse to sit there.  Some Sikhs had followed Guru Sahib and did his Darshan in joy.  All the doubts were now cleared for the Sikhs.  There were no more questions.  It had become clear that Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib ji was the 9th Guru.  The Sikhs would all come with bliss.  They came to make their lives a success.  The people would go to the Sodhis and praise Guru ji

The spy of Dheermal went back to Dheermal and Sheeha.  He told them where Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib ji was at that very point in time.  The spy said: “he has gone out.  The Sikhs have gone with him.  His glory has spread in all 10 directions.”  Dheermal heard this and thought about this.  He said to his Masands: “this is a disease, uncurable for us.  There is no solution to this other than killing him.  The news has spread that he is the Guru now.  This new will spread to other lands.  The people will come to him and worship him.  I hope he doesn’t become known as the Guru.  I won’t be worshiped then.”  The Masands gave Dheermal hope: “why are you regretting this?  Why are you losing hope?  I have kept spies there.  We will kill your Chacha tonight and take all his things.  He is a simple person.  He can’t be equal to you.  He is weaker than you.  Let us worry about this.  We want the best for you.  The spy that just came, he told us that your Chacha just left on his horse.  If he comes close to our home, we will fire our guns on him.  He will get hit with at least one bullet and die.  We will fire many bullets.”  Sheeha Masand took the best warriors with him.  They tied their Kumerkassas and stood in attention behind the front wall of the home.  Sheeha said to them: “when he comes back in this direction, fire all your guns at once!  Kill him!  Aim at him and shoot.  Don’t let him get away alive.  He should not be able to go home.”  The corrupt Masands made this plan.  They sat in the home of Dheermal.  The Masand said: “I heard that Guru Tegh Bahadhur ji rested at noon.  I didn’t go then because people would have found out about me going.  Loud noises would have started during the day.  Who knows what could have happened within the chaos?  I didn’t carry out the plan at that time.  If we fire now, he will die.  If we miss, we will go to his home and kill him.”  Sheeha spoke to his people in this way.

They all waited for Guru ji to come as they hid behind the front wall.  Sri Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib ji came riding his horse with a “Mandasa” (a Parna of a Chadder) tied to his head.   Guru ji came casually.  He held the reins, rolling them in his hands.  When the horse ran fast, Guru ji would pull the reins back to slow it down.  He would give hope to the horse as he rode it because the horse wanted to go faster.  A handkerchief made of a fine cloth was in Guru ji’s hand.  Guru ji was riding his horse slowly as he was coming back to his home.  As Guru ji entered the boundary of the village, loud noises of rifles being fired could be heard.  Hearing the loud noises of the gunshots, the horse got startled and started to run fast.  Guru ji pulled the reins and looked around.  He looked toward the direction from where the shots were fired (near Dheermal’s home) from and yelled out in a loud voice: “very good Dheermal!  Very good!  You are very patient Dheermal!”  Guru ji said this many times.  Sri Prabhoo ji was very patient and fearless.  He fearlessly rode towards the bullets and spoke in a loud voice, repeating the same thing: “Very good Dheermal!”  Guru ji casually rode to his home and got off his horse.  He came into his home and sat on his seat.

11-13 Dheermal has shots fired and loots the house of the Guru

The the dirty act that Dheermal did: firing bullets on his own uncle; was clearly an act of jealousy and greed.  The other Sodhis were going through the same emotions at that time.  They were without truth, contentment and peace.  They were filled with hatred and jealousy.  Guru ji was feeling sorry for them.  He was feeling compassionate towards them.  He was thinking to himself: “they are burning from the inside with jealousy and greed.  They are angry.  They are blind towards the Gyaan.  They have no Gyaan.  They are without peace, truth and contentment.  The fire of jealousy is burning them.  Only the Simran of the Prabhoo’s name can give them peace.  I became the Guru to save the Sikhs and bless them.  These fools can’t tolerate me.  I want to bless them.  They only want the pleasures of the world.”  Guru ji knew with his divine sight of what was going to happen in the future.  Guru ji sat quietly in peace, thinking about all this.

The spy of Sheeha Masand then saw that Guru ji was alone and with only one or two other Sikhs.  He quickly ran back to Dheermal as fast as he could.  He said to Dheermal and Sheeha Masand: “Guru ji is now back from his outing and is sitting alone with only one or two other Sikhs.”  Sheeha heard this and got his men ready.  They were armed and ready to go.  As they were about to leave, Dheermal observed some very bad omens.  Someone sneezed from the right side.  The wind blew hard and dust flew onto their faces.  Dheermal’s left eye started to twitch.  A clay pot, that was carried by a woman, broke in front of all of them.  Dheermal observed all this and said to the men: “wait a half hour and then go.  I am seeing some bad omens.  I feel like something wrong is going to happen.  Our reputation will be ruined and we won’t be successful with our task.  If something goes wrong, I don’t want all of you to blame me for it.  I am warning you now, so I don’t want this coming back to me.  I am not feeling good about this.  My enthusiasm for this task is really low right now.  The wise people would say that you should reconsider and re-strategize before doing anything.  I think we will fail.  We won’t be able to get the wealth.  I want you to be patient.  Think of what can go wrong and who is on the side of my uncle Guru Tegh Bahadhur ji.”  Sheeha and the Masands heard this and didn’t agree with Dheermal.  They didn’t listen to him.  Sheeha responded: “why are you scaring us?  Makhan Shah’s Dhera is far.  We won’t let anyone speak or make any noise.  Nobody will help your Chacha in the village because he doesn’t speak to anyone.  He lives like a carefree Mastana.  He has no love with anyone in the village.  You don’t need to worry about a thing.  You should sit here calmly in your Dhera.  This is my responsibility.  If all goes well, it will be your glory.  If anything goes wrong, I’ll take full responsibility for it.  If I die, only then will someone come to you.”

Sheeha looked at his men and signaled them to move out.  He had 100 armed men with him.  Sheeha called them all and said: “when we go close to his home, aim at him and shoot him at first sight.  Whatever happens after, we will figure it out later.  I will handle it.  Just kill him at once.”  Sheeha had taken 25 armed men with him.  He and his men crept up quickly and quietly towards Guru ji’s home.  They soon reached Satguru ji’s home and then entered the main gate of the house in a sudden flash.  They started beating the Sikhs and servants.  The people in the house were in shock and were yelling “hey!  Who are you and what are you doing here?”  Sheeha and his men broke down the door of the house and entered.  They grabbed the servants.  A lot of noise was made.  The servants recognized Sheeha and the other men.  Sheeha yelled out: “fire the guns!”  The Masand then saw Guru Sahib ji in sitting down in his room and eating his food.  Sheeha aimed and fired a bullet.  Guru Sahib shifted his body with a jerk and deflected the bullet.  The bullet slightly scratched the forehead of Guru ji and a little blood came on to the surface of the skin.  The bullet fell onto the floor in front of Guru ji.  The bullet was round.  The servants got scared and yelled out in disbelief.  They were beaten and tied down.  Some were beaten with the hilt of the swords and whoever spoke was slapped in the face.  Sheeha and his men used their strength to scare everyone in the home.  The men began to loot the house.  They took all of the gold coins that Bhai Makhan Shah ji had brought along with all the gifts.  They took the offerings and presents that the other Sikhs had given as well.  Not only did they take all the offerings, they looted the Guru’s personal belongings as well.  The sinners took the Chaurs and the conch shells.  The expensive clothes were loaded and taken.  A sinner becomes blind and doesn’t distinguish between sins.  Sheeha, the corrupt, stood in front of Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib ji and began to yell.  “you sit as the Guru on the Gurta Ghaddi.  Who made you the Guru?  Why did you sit on a throne and proclaim to be the Guru?  Were you not afraid of Dheermal?  None of the Masands came to you to give you the Pugri of the Guru.  Only we can make you the Guru.  Who gave you the right?  You don’t know how to speak to anyone.  Nor do you know how to meet people.  Why do you want to be the Guru?  You became greedy for money.  You saw Makhan Shah as a rich person and plotted a scheme for yourself to become the Guru.  You made a plan to become the Guru.  He made noise, yelling “Guru.”  You took all of the gifts that Makhan Shah brought for the Guru.  You don’t have any right over that.  We won’t let that stay with you.  The lion’s things can’t be taken by the deer.  You were poor.  Stay like that.  You can’t be the Guru of the Sikhs.  When we loot you, others will be scared too.  If you do this, others would follow.  Don’t ever try to gather wealth again.  Dheermal is the True Guru.  He can do that.  Whoever tries to became equal to Dheermal, this is what we will do to them.  You did all this, unknowingly of the outcome.  This time we will spare your life but if you continue this in the future, we will surely kill you.  This punishment is good enough for you.  You will remain alive today.  This is the second time we fired on you.  I am telling you for your own good.  Don’t call yourself the Guru.”  In all the commotion, the revered mother of Guru Tegh Bahadhur ji, known as Mata Nanaki ji in the world, came running out when she heard Sheeha.  Guru ji was sitting in peace and serenity.  He could see past, present and future.  Nothing bothered him.  Mata Nanaki ji was in a rage of anger and began to shout at Sheeha about the claim to the Gurta Ghaddi: “my son’s father and Grandfather were Guru’s.  They took gifts from every direction.  This is our matter!  Who are you to stop us?  You are causing a conflict for no reason.  Everyone is a master of their own home.  Nobody can come and stop them.  We never came to Dheermal’s town to storm his house.  We are sitting in our own home.  Why are you storming our house like this?  He came from Kartarpur to Bakala.  Why did Dheermal come to Bakala from his town of Kartarpur?  He came here and started a façade, pretending to be the real Guru.  If the Guruship is with him, why didn’t he stay at his home in Kartarpur and have the Sikhs worship him there?  He is burning in the fire of greed.  Dheermal’s claims are false.  He will burn in his greed.  Dheermal’s house will burn (a curse Mata ji gave to Dheermal which later came to fruition).  He will always remain greedy.  He has lost his greatness.  We were in our home living peacefully.  We make our living here in peace by our own means.  If Sikhs come to our home and give their offerings, why are you bothered by it?  You are taking our stuff.  We never came to your home.  The Sikhs came here to give money.  You are looting us.  The poison that you drink and kill yourself with, you think others are like you.  The home of the Guru is the door of humility.  The ones who try to become higher get destroyed by their egos.  Your bad time is coming soon.  That’s why you are doing this egotistical act.  Thousands of Rajitpuns were taken by Dheermal when we left Kartarpur.  You get more everyday.  You are not satisfied.  You are greedy and jealous.  Sri Baba Nanak ji is the master of the universe.  He will surely punish you for this filthy act.  If the bullet would have been inwards slightly, my son would have been killed.  What do you think the Sikhs would have done to you then?  They would have killed all of you.  You have sinned gravely.”  Mata ji kept yelling at Sheeha.  She roared at him.  Her radiance was unmatched.  She was 6 feet tell and very strong.  She was very pretty with a commanding persona.  Mataji wiped her son’s forehead with a cloth.  She had tears in her eyes.  She was thankful that the bullet didn’t do serious damage to her son.  She said: “thank you Guru Nanak Dev ji for saving my son.  He has had a second birth today.”  Hey heart burned.  She was very upset.  Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib ji then spoke: “Mataji, this wealth and money brings upon greed in others.  The money makes people do bad things.  Let it go.  Only then will there be peace.  This brings upon a lot of problems.  Letting go of money gives peace.  The one who takes the money goes through pain.”  Throughout this whole event, Guru Sahib maintained his calm posture.  He did not have a single sign of worry or fear on his forehead.  He remained calm and content.  Sheeha packed up all the loot and headed back to Dheermal’s camp.  He was really happy in his heart.  He presented the gold coins and the gifts to Dheermal.  Sheeha showed the 500 Dinars and the other items he looted.  Dheermal was extremely happy seeing the loot.  Dheermal saw a pair of golden bracelets in the pile and picked them up.  He gave them to Sheeha and said: “very good!”  Sheeha was happy to receive the golden bracelets.

11-14 Dheermal’s Cruelness

Dheermal could not contain his happiness seeing the loot.  The Masand was extremely happy with his golden bracelets.  The Masand was asked about the whole event.  The Masand said: “listen Baba ji, the Guru was saved because of his Karma.  I fired on him but I missed.  My hand slipped so the bullet just scratched his forehead.  His mother then came and started yelling.  She saved her son.  He was saved.  He didn’t die.  He won’t sit on the Ghaddi again though.  He will be scared know because we fired on him.  You should be sure that there is no challenger to your claim to the Gurta Ghaddi now.  You can take as many offerings as you wish.  The Sikhs of the whole world will bow to you.  What is Sri Tegh Bahadhur ji in front of us?  All of the Sodhis have ran away.  They won’t fight with you.  There is nobody equal to you.  If anyone tries, only then will they become the Guru but if you stay determined, nobody will try.  There is no doubt that you will be the 9th Guru.  You should keep an army now and make it grow like your grandfather so everyone fears you.  Your brother Guru Har Rai ji kept 2,200 soldiers.  The armed soldiers are good to keep.  People are afraid of such a leader who has an army.  Keep strong horses and strong soldiers.  Your brother kept 2,200 soldiers who were able to fight people.  They were fearless.  The army should be ready to go wherever we go.  We can overtake strong enemies.  Your younger brother, the way he had an army, the way he had his radiance, you should do the same thing.  You have the Aad Guru Granth Sahib ji Bir.  This is the biggest sign of you being the Guru.  Sit on the Ghaddi of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji.  Be in joy and keep us with you.”  Baba Dheermal heard this and was really happy.  He said: “the Gurta Ghaddi is mine.  The whole world knows I am the grandson of Guru Hargobind Sahib ji.  The gifts from far away lands will come to me.  You are good and deserving Masand of mine.  You are wise.  Keep wise people with you.  Enlist strong soldiers.  You know the traditions of the Guru’s home.  You have been connected with this house from a long time.  The Masands of the other lands, some big and big small, they gave Lakhs of Rajitpuns.  Keep them all in your control.  The Sikhs all listen to the Masands.  Use your wisdom to convince those Masands.  Give them respect and give them money.  Do this effort day and night by which everyone keeps coming here.  If the Masands come, the Sikhs will follow them.  They will bring money and gifts.  Be in joy without a doubt.  We will have the joys of every kind.”  In this way, Dheermal was happy and gave his Masands gifts.  They all made these plans.  They spoke as they wished for a while.  They had corruption, ego and greed in their hearts.

Sri Guru Tegh Bahadhur Chand ji was always connected to his real form in bliss.  Money coming and going was the same to him.  Joy and sorrow never sprouted in his heart.  He was always in a single-state of mind.  He was always in bliss without any worries or fear.  He was always patient.  He was the great victor of his Indriyas.  He was filled with unlimited virtues.  He was generous, benevolent, radiant, wise, forgiving, and compassionate.  He was without any corruption.  His mind was free from attachment, ego, greed, lust and jealousy.  He was sitting on his seat just as he was before the attack of the Masands.  He felt no loss or sorrow.  He had no worry.  His mother, Mata Nanaki ji was really upset.  She shed many tears from her eyes, seeing her own grandchild, Dheermal, attacking them.  She said: “oh son, why don’t you become aware?  You sit there all day with laziness.  Your relatives make many efforts to insult us.  Dheermal has always been doing this.  He takes thousands everyday that he eats.  He doesn’t give the money to anyone else.  He does acts of deception in many ways.  He does what it takes to gather money.  The wedding and celebrations within the Guru’s home, he sees us as the lowly ones.  He thinks that you are unwise and unintelligent.  He thinks you are not worthy but you keep forgiving him.  This is your greatness, but they don’t see it that way.  Look at what he has done now.  He sinned in the most foolish way.  You don’t take any action to make the Guru’s home run.  If the corrupt Aatma one would have shot you, to take the money in a sinful way, what would have happened to me?  I only have 1 son, which is you.  I have no one else.  I have no grandson either.  You have no children yet.  I live to see your face.  Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji saved you today.  The bullet didn’t hit you.  There is nobody to stop these sinners.  They are proud of their money and strength.”  Mata ji spoke about Dheermal and then began to cry.  A lot of tears were shed.

Sri Guru ji then spoke: “Mata ji, keep calm.  Have patience.  Don’t be upset with the act.  The one who uses force because of their ego, Sri Hari Prabhoo ji gets mad over them.  The Prabhoo takes all their wealth away.  They then became upset and afraid.  Sri Kartaar’s hand is over everyone’s head.  He sees the Karma and gives joy or sorrow.  The ones who seek the Prabhoo’s shelter, they are not afraid of anyone or anything.  The Master of the Universe, I have his support.  The ones who are content with his will, they are not in the pain or pleasure of being born or dying.  The Kamalakant (the husband of Kamala- Hari) gives, no one else.  This sinful act that those people did, Mata ji, don’t worry about that.  They are already dead from the Prabhoo.  They will be faced with a lot of trouble.  They will be under your will one day.  They will be embarrassed and afraid.  They will beg the Sikhs for help.  (Baba Vadhbhaag Singh ji was Dheermal’s 5th generation who asked the Khalsa for help.  Nassar Ali had destroyed Tham Sahib and ruined his home.  Baba Vadbhag Singh asked the Buddha Dal for help to win Jalandhar.  Nassar Ali’s dead body was burnt after being dug up from his grave.  Baba Vadhbhaag Singh took Amrit with his brothers) These people fired bullets on the innocent.  They sinned because of money.  They weren’t afraid to do this sin.  The fools lost their wisdom because of greed.  These people will be punished.  What you wish for, the Kartar Prabhoo will fulfill it.  The Masands and Dheermal did a very bad thing.  They sinned because of greed.  The fish grabs the iron hook because of desire.  It is taken out of the water and is in pain then.  Thieves go towards a rich person and loot him by scaring him.  The king’s army comes and punishes them by surrounding them and killing them.  Their weapons and wealth are taken away; they are in jail in pain; doing such things, nobody has ever been happy.  They are slandered and they are in regret.  You should forgive them.  That is the best thing to do.  The Bhagavan will be with the one who forgives.  The corrupt people are insulted and die.  The greedy people got attached to the money.  Big people like Duryodhana and others, they became greedy and disregarded the traditions.  Every such person has been in pain.  They wish for joy but get pain instead.  I didn’t take any share from Dheermal.  I was never greedy.  The Sikh came to me with faith.  He folded his hands and gave me the gifts.  I never went to his Dhera to call him.  He came here by himself to give me the gifts.  For this reason, I am not at fault for anything.  Dheermal saw me and was angry.  He will be insulted and in pain very soon, today or tomorrow.”  The mother and son spoke to each other in this way.  Mata ji was really upset and worried.

Many Sikhs witnessed the attack on Guru ji’s home.  The news spread throughout Bakala.  The people of Bakala said: “Dheermal is egotistical because of his money.  He claims to be the True Guru.  If he has powers, why doesn’t he call the Sikhs?  He should pull the minds of the Sikhs with his power and have them follow him.  He should have the power which is the reason why Sikhs come with offerings.  Dheermal did a very bad thing.  He went into another home to do evil acts.  He looted everything in that home.  Nobody stopped him.  If he continues to do this, then strong people will always loot the weak.”  People spoke about this and gathered.  The Sikhs were upset.  They couldn’t tolerate this.  They said: “Dheermal did a very bad thing.  What can we do?  We are without any strength.  We can’t face Dheermal.  He insulted our Guru.  He disrespected him.  The men with Dheermal are all thugs.  We can’t handle them.  Bhai Makhan Shah ji has 500 men.  He can do something if he wishes.  He can take revenge for his Guru.  He can punish Dheermal for his ego.”  For this mission, 2 Sikhs ran to where Baba Makhan Shah ji was staying.  They gave him the update of how Dheermal looted Guru ji’s home.

11-15 Bhai Makhan Shah ji’s Anger

Bhai Makhan Shah ji, the great Sikh, was laying down, resting on his bed.  He heard someone yelling from afar, coming towards his camp.  It were the servants of the Guru.  They were shouting: “oh Bhai Makhan Shah ji, where are you?  There has been a robbery at the house of the Guru.  The money that you gave to the Guru, plus the money that the Sikhs brought; Dheermal got angry and jealous and had it looted.  Out of greed, he sent his Masands and soldiers.  They came with ego and anger.  They brought their men and committed great sins there.  They fired a gun on Guru ji.  The bullet scratched Guru ji’s forehead and fell in front of him.  We figured out that Guru ji saved himself with his own powers. The money that you gave along with gifts, Dheermal’s men came to the house of Guru ji and took everything.  They took all the stuff that you had brought plus all the household items.  They even took the pots and pans from the kitchen.  They took many expensive things.  They disrespected Guru ji and spoke harsh words.  They didn’t fear anyone.  Dheermal and his Masands are egotistical.  They did what they wanted to.  They wanted to kill Guru ji.  If Mata ji was not close by, the men of Dheermal would have caused more damage.  Mata ji is respected by the whole Panth as she is the wife of Guru Hargobind Sahib ji.  If it wasn’t for her, the men would have killed Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib ji.  She scolded everyone and stopped the men.  She yelled: “who are you and where did you come from?”  She was the wife of Guru Hargobind Sahib ji so her words have powers.  The Masands couldn’t speak in front of her.  Her radiance was too much for anyone to handle.  She saved her son.  Mata ji stayed there till the thugs didn’t leave.  They took a lot of the stuff from Guru ji’s home.  They were fearless.  They took everything to Dheermal’s Dhera.  Sri Guru Tegh Bahadhur ji was very patient.  He sat there with patience.  He has been like that from the beginning.  We have seen him from before you had come.  He never disrespected anyone.  He is generous and compassionate towards all.  He stays in his home with his wife and mother.  You revealed Guru Sahib to the World and gave him many gifts.  The Sangat gave him gifts too, after you showed them.  This caused problems for Guru ji.  You put him in conflict.  We have seen all the damage.  A lot of problems have been caused for him because you gave him all those gifts.  You doing his Darshan was problematic for him.”  Bhai Makhan Shah ji heard this and became angry.  The joy of his heart was gone.  Bhai Makhan Shah ji was very hurt after hearing the whole story.  He was feeling bad that Guru Sahib ji almost got shot.  He thought to himself: “why did Dheermal do this?  Who helped him?  By whose advice did he do such a bad thing?  Why did he do such a foolish act?  Nobody stopped him.  Dheermal will face losses.  Where thugs like Dheermal are, how can people live there?  The weak people will be looted by the powerful.  My Satguru ji is not weak.  Whoever he blesses, that person never losses.  He is the Master of the whole earth.  There is no one like him.  Dheermal is nothing in front of him.  The Satguru’s greatness is great.  He tolerated the insult.  He is powerful, spiritually and physically.  He didn’t show his strength or power.  He tolerated it all with patience.  He didn’t show himself to anyone.  He is omnipotent and radiant.  There is nobody like him in the 3 Loks.  His glory is the greatest.  Nobody can compare to him.  Guru ji can tolerant the intolerable.  There is no man in this world who can control his power after having unlimited powers.  Only the Satguru can do this.  No one else.  He doesn’t care about his loss or damage.  He didn’t speak about it to anyone.  The damage caused to his home, I find myself guilty for it.  He stopped me from revealing him but I thought about the good of the Sangat.  If these problems continue, that is bad.  I will be punished further for this.  This is all because of me.  I will use my strength to fix this once and for all.  If the powerful kill me then I will be successful.  I will be a Shaheed.  I am not successful right now.  I need to punish Dheermal.”  After thinking about this, Bhai Makhan Shah ji commanded his men: “listen warriors, don’t delay.  The reason we came here for, after travelling many miles with pain, our mission is about to be spoiled.  We need to take our weapons and fight them.  We will fight them and win.  This is the battle of Dharma.  If we die, we will undoubtedly go to Swarga (Heaven).”  Baba Makhan Shah ji got his soldiers ready and set off.

Baba Makhan Shah ji and his men took their swords and shields.  They set off.  The Guru had been insulted.  The men were going to avenge the disrespect of their Guru.  When they came close to Bakala, they heard the noise.  There was noise about what Dheermal and his men had done.  Everyone said: “what Dheermal and his men have done is wrong.  He is guilty of criminal activities.  They fired on Guru Tegh Bahadhur ji.  The Sodhis have done a bad thing.  There is nobody on the Gurta Ghaddi.  The Sodhis are fighting for the Gurta Ghaddi.  The Sikhs are losing faith.  The Guru has powers by which they become the Guru.  The fake ones will run away.”

The servant of the Guru, Baba Makhan Shah ji, came into the village.  The people of the village told Baba Makhan Shah ji of what had happened.  Baba Makhan Shah ji’s anger grew even more.  He asked the eye witness: “the Masand that did all this, show him to me once.”  The Sikh told Bhai Makhan Shah ji.  Bhai Makhan Shah ji and his men headed towards Dheermal’s Dhera and attacked it.

Bhai Makhan Shah ji and his men yelled and beat up the people in Dheermal’s Dhera.  Dheermal’s soldier were all taken down and captured.  They beat them up.  Baba Makhan Shah ji had 500 men.  Dheermal had only a handful of people.  Baba Makhan Shah ji’s men all had swords.  Baba Makhan Shah ji yelled out to his people: “don’t strike first.  The men of Dheermal, the one who strikes, kill them.  You can shave them and cut them to pieces.  They should know of our strength.  They are corrupt sinners who need to be punished.  Loot the whole Dhera.  The wealth he has, living like a king, we won’t leave it.  If someone tries to attack us, or speaks harsh words, we will do 2 from 1 and 4 from 2.  Use your swords.  They caused damage to Guru ji.  I wish to do the same to them but Dheermal is still born in the house of the Guru.  We will let him live.  Don’t do anything to Dheermal.  Don’t say anything to him.  Capture all his Masands and tie them up.  Tie their hands behind their backs.  Take every thing they have.  Take it to Satguru ji’s home.”  Baba Makhan Shah ji said this in anger.  His eyes were red.  He was angry like a fearless and scary lion.  He was upset at Dheermal’s actions.  He didn’t care about dying: “damned is the life that sees the disrespect of the Guru!  I can’t hear the slandering of my Guru.  When a sinner does this, they are corrupt and full of sins.  They insult the Guru, openly.  How can the Sikhs tolerate this?  It is better to die.  I can’t tolerate this, even a little bit.  The scale that can’t tolerate a Massa, how can it tolerate a Tola?  The hearts that are pure, they can’t tolerate this type of insult.  How can those people tolerate the disrespect of Guru ji?”  Baba Makhan Shah ji was really angry.  He attacked Dheermal’s Dhera.
