10-36 Sri Guru Har Krishan ji Going to Delhi

In this way the Vizier of Jai Singh spoke and Guru Har Krishan Sahib ji heard his words.  He recognized his duty towards his Sikhs.  Whoever comes to the Guru’s shelter, the Guru protects.  Satguru ji held to his promise towards his servants, loving them like a father.  He was tied to the string of love.  The request was filled with love.  The master of the universe was helpless, tied in the string of love.  He had been pulled by his Bhagat.  He couldn’t reject the love of his Sikh.  Guru ji stayed quiet for some time.  He didn’t give a response for a long time.  He thought of the future.  He knew that he was going to leave his body in Delhi.  He recognized what the Ishwar’s will was and how the future was going to unfold.  He thought carefully and deeply.  He decided to go to Delhi.  The senior Masands were called by Guru ji.  Guru ji said to them: “tell me your opinion about my going to Delhi.  I will not break my vow of seeing the Turk.  I won’t give him my Darshan.  Raja Jai Singh has great love towards the Guru.  He has made a request drenched in love.  I can’t refuse his request.  He sent his love along with many gifts.  His gifts were sincere.  I won’t send his ambassador empty-handed.  It is right for me to go to Delhi.  I will tolerate whatever will happen there.  I will honour my servant’s love.”  The Masands heard this.  Mata ji was happy with this decision along with the Masands.  Everyone’s wishes were fulfilled.  They wanted to stay on good terms with the Badshah so their home would remain in peace.  They thought: “if he didn’t decide to go, the Badshah would have started a conflict.  Who knows what that corrupt person would have done.  It would have been difficult to live in Kiratpur.  Everyone says that it’s hard to refuse the Shah.  We will be good now.  He will go to Delhi.  Raja Jai Singh will be happy now.”  In this way, everyone thought and discussed their wishes.  They were calm.  Their worries were gone.  Everyone thought it was a good idea for Guru ji to go to Delhi.  Everyone praised Sri Gurdev ji.  The preparations to go to Delhi began that day.

Many had their duties to get everything ready.  In the morning, Satguru ji bathed.  He wore his clothes and jewellery.  He held court and called the Vizier.  The son of Sri Guru Har Rai ji said to the Minister: “you have demonstrated your king’s love and devotion.  I have seen that.  I have decided to go to Delhi.  I will meet the Raja in Delhi.  Tell him not to make any other unorthodox requests when I see him.  I will not meet the Turk Emperor.  I am telling you this now so there are no expectations.  Write this and tell your Raja this.  Your Raja is wise.  He will understand my wishes.”  The minister folded his hands and said: “Satguru ji, my Raja follows the Dharma.  I came because of him.  My Raja wants to see you.  He will obey you.  He won’t go against you.  This was his thought all along.  He is your servant with his mind.  I will write a letter for him.  Whatever is your command, that is what I will write.  The Raja has faith in you.  He thinks well for you.  He is on your side.  He is wise.”

The Minister wrote a letter to the Raja, according to Guru ji’s instructions: “he saw your love and is ready to come.  When you meet him, do what he says.  Don’t make any requests.  Say what you wish but don’t compel him for anything.  You will need to fulfill all your promises.  The Guru knows every heart.  He is omniscient.  If he suspects foul play, he may get angry and curse you.  See what is good.  This is serious.  Deal with him like Gurus.  The promise you made to the Badshah, Guru ji will complete that but he won’t see the Badshah.  I am bringing him to Delhi because of your good karma.  I will arrive with Guru ji in a few days.”  The letter was written and sent to Raja Jai Singh.

Raja Jai Singh received the letter and read it.  He was happy to hear that Guru ji was coming.  He was worried about Guru ji’s rejection.  He was now at ease.  He knew that Guru ji was coming.  It was like a dry tree getting water.  The Raja had Prashaad made and distributed it after doing an Ardaas.  He wanted to meet Guru ji.  It was like a wilting tree getting water.  He waited for Guru ji.  He kept writing letters to Guru ji.  Guru ji received letters from the Raja every day.  His love got deeper.  He was happy when he got news of Guru ji’s decision.  His messenger went every day to Guru ji and got updates.  The messenger would say: “please bless us Satguru ji, oh giver of joy.”  Different types of modes of travel were brought.  A palanquin with mirrors, diamonds and gems was brought.   Many chariots came with muslin and Zarri cloths.  The domes shined.  It looked like stars shining.  When the wheels of the chariots moved, they sounded like thundering clouds.  The chariots were tied to strong steeds who wore golden jewellery.

Sangat came from all around.  There was always a crowd.  Guru ji would get ready to go but couldn’t leave as there were too many Sikhs who came to see him.  Many days passed like this.  Guru ji didn’t get a chance to leave Kiratpur.  People would run and give Guru ji news of the arrival of new Sangat.  They would send their messengers for Guru ji: “Guru ji a lot of Sangat has came.  They are 30 km away.  Please wait for them.”  Some would say: “they are 40 km away.”  Some were even further.  Thousands of Sikhs came, bringing gifts.  They came from the south, west, north and east.  It was hard to count how many came.”  The Raja’s messenger put pressure on Guru ji to leave; the Sangat’s messengers put pressure on Guru ji to wait.  A new crowd came to Kiratpur every day.  They came and did Guru ji’s Darshan.  Many more days passed.  Guru ji finally got ready.  He thought of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji and left Kiratpur after doing an Ardaas.  Many Sikhs and servants went.  A lot of luggage was packed.  Tents and other items of need were loaded on camels.  The luggage was loaded on carts.  Some warriors came with their weapons.  Some stayed back.  The Nagaras sounded and the army moved out.  Many horses were decorated and rode by the warriors.  The Farlas of the Nishans were unfurled.  The Nishans were at the front with the Nagaras.  Kiratpur was empty.  A lot of stuff was taken.  Guru ji knew he wasn’t coming back.  Only the Satguru knew this.  No one else.  Who would know the Satguru’s thoughts?  He was heading towards the city of the Turk.  The Vizier of the Raja was travelling with Guru ji.  Guru ji was going to complete the task of Raja Jai Singh.  The Raja was happy and waiting for Guru ji.  Guru ji was headed east.

10-37 Meeting the Sangat

From Kiratpur, Satguru ji left.  He first rested at Sadabarat, Ropar.  He rested the night and woke up at Amritvela.  As Guru ji got ready to leave, the Sikhs from Lamma Desh came to meet Guru ji.  They bowed and then made a request: “Guru ji, a lot of Sangat is coming to see you.  The Sangat who come for your Darshan, tell others of your greatness when the return.  They tell others that you are going to Delhi.  The Sikhs get eager and come to see you, inspired by the ones who return home.  They are in a hurry to meet you before you leave.  They are really tired now as they have been traveling a long distance.  They have a deep desire to see you.  Women, men, old and young; there are many.  They are coming from a long distance.  They are tired as they rest less.  They have sent us ahead to tell you to wait.  They want you to stay for some time so they can see you.  Please be compassionate towards your Sangat.  The Sikhs have come form far.  They are close by, reaching in a day or two.  If you keep moving ahead, the Sikhs will have to travel longer.  You are in a hurry but the Sangat wants you to slow down.  The Sangat is tired.  Please have pity on them.  You are always the support of your servants.  This is your promise.”  Sri Guru Har Krishan ji, the Benevolent One, heard this: “oh fulfiller of wishes, the Sangat is tired.  Please hear their pleas.”  Guru ji stayed in the Ropar area for some time to meet the Sikhs.  He was young but the mine of virtues.

The Sangat arrived the next day.  They came like a thirsty cow running for water.  Satguru ji sat and held a Divaan.  The Sangat did Guru ji’s Darshan, bowing their heads.  They brought many types of gifts.  They stood and did the Ardaas: “you have fulfilled my wishes and now I bring you this offering.”  Some said: “you destroyed my problems and blockages of tasks.”  Some said: “Satguru ji, give me a son.”  Some said: “please give me abundance.”  Some said: “relieve the pain of my body.”  Some said: “save me from my enemies.”  Many people came with their wishes.  They came seeking blessings with joy.  Whatever wish they had, they did the Darshan of Satguru ji and had their wishes fulfilled.  Some asked for the Satnam.  Only some asked for that who had the love for the Guru’s lotus feet in their hearts.  When Sri Guru Har Krishan ji saw them, he blessed them with what they wished for.  He gave Siropas to the people from Lamma Desh.  They would take the Prashaad and leave with love.  Their wishes were all filled.  Everyone was respected.  Guru ji then headed east from there.  He started his travels again.

Guru ji travelled during the day and rested the night.  Everyone ate and slept.  In the morning, everyone bathed and got ready.  The whole Sangat and army started their travels again.  Wherever Guru ji went, in the golden palanquin, everyone watched from the streets and bowed their heads.  As he travelled, more Sikhs came.  They bowed and said: “from Kabul, Peshawar, Kashmir, Multan and other places, many Sangats are coming to see you.  Many thousands of people are coming.  They wish for your Darshan.  They are eagerly coming.  They heard that you are heading towards Delhi.  They wanted to see you.  The Sangat travels all day to come here quickly.  If you can wait another day, the Sangat can come see you.”  Guru ji told everyone to stop travelling again.  He saw the love of the Sangat and stayed.  He waited to give the Sikhs his Darshan.  His eyes were filled with love.  The Sangat came the next day.  They came singing Shabads with love.  They played Mridangs, Sitars and Dutaaras.  They sang Raags in high pitches.

Satguru ji held a Divaan.  The Nishan flags waived in the wind.  Chaurs waived over Guru ji’s head.  A canopy was tied over his head.  Naubats, Napheeryas, and Shehnais were played in the court.  Many Sikhs came, bringing many gifts.  They placed a lot of money in front of Guru ji.  They folded their hands and did their Ardaas.  They said their wishes to Guru ji.  Guru ji fulfilled their wishes as per their requirements and eligibility.  Guru ji gave them leave.  How much Katha can we say?  The ways of the Guru and the Sikhs are unique.

Satguru ji travelled for 2 days and reached the place where the village Panjokhra Sahib is.  There was an ancient river that passed through here.  It was called the “Dangri River.”  (The Dangri does not pass through this area in the present day.  Its course has moved away by a few kilometers.  It still meets the Ghaggar River though) There are fields of peanuts here as the soil is mostly sand.  Guru ji set up camp on the shores of the river.  The Sikhs from foreign lands came there.  The Sikhs sent messengers who stood and requested Guru ji: “Guru ji, a lot of Sikhs are coming from the west.  Please stay a day longer here and give your beloved Sikhs your Darshan.”  Guru ji thought to himself: “a lot of people keep coming to see me.  People know that I am going to Delhi so they want to see me.  They travel a long distance and get tired.  I need a solution for this.  I need to tell the Sikhs to stay here and not go ahead.”  As Guru ji was thinking to himself, Raja Jai Singh’s messenger had arrived.  Where the handsome young Guru was sitting, the messenger of Jai Singh came there.  He bowed and sat by Guru ji.  He folded his hands and said: “since the time you left Kiratpur, you have spent a lot of time in your camps.  If you keep moving like this, when will you arrive in Delhi?  You keep getting stopped by the Sikhs.  They are coming from every direction.  They wish for your Darshan.  Please find a solution for this.  You are spending many days in travel.”  Satguru ji heard this and gave him hope: “what you say is true.  I was thinking about this already.”

Where Guru ji had set up camp, there was a beautiful place there with a lot of sand along the shore of the river.  (Giani Sher Singh ji had seen the signs of the old river there, shown to him by Baba Aatma Singh ji in present times.  When Baba Aatma Singh ji was 6 months old, he had died.  His mother brought his body there and did Ardaas to Guru ji.  Baba Aatma Singh ji woke up again.  Giani Sher Singh ji had himself been blessed with the gift of Katha and many other blessings from this place) Sri Satguru ji came and sat in the sand.  He began to play in the sand.  He began collecting the sand.  People thought Guru ji was playing with the sand as children do.  It was like he was playing like a child.  He wore golden jewellery: golden bracelets in his wrists, Kalgi Jigha and many necklaces.  Mata Kishan Kaur ji would dress him like a king.  He had golden bracelets with diamonds in his wrists.  With his small hands, he collected the sand.  The mound kept getting bigger.  He kept moving his hands to make the mound bigger.  Soon enough, a big mound of sand was made.  He pushed the sand from every direction.  The Sikhs and servants all watched.  The Dangri River was blessed by the touch of Sri Guru Har Krishan Sahib ji.  Guru ji patted the mound and made a platform.  The Sangat watched and thought he was playing.  Some sat and some stood as they watched.  Guru ji did this for a few hours.  The mound was ready.  Guru ji planted a small Nishan Sahib into the mound he made and said: “whichever Sikh wishes to see me can come to this place.  They can do the Darshan of this Nishan.  They should bow their heads.  Whatever wish they have in their hearts, bringing gifts; they should give it here.  Their pain will be gone.  They should stand and have an Ardaas done.  That person’s Ardaas and gifts will reach me.  Come here with faith and devotion.  Do my Darshan here.  Don’t come ahead to see me from this place.  Tell everyone to come here instead.  Whoever wants to do my Darshan, they should do the Darshan of this place.  The reward of my Darshan will be easily achieved by coming here.  This is my command.  Don’t go ahead from this place to see me.  Just as you give me love, love this place and have your wishes fulfilled.”  To fulfill the wishes of many Sikhs in the future, Guru ji blessed this place. (Baba Aatma Singh ji had told Giani Sher Singh ji of a Sikh from Panjokhra Sahib that made bricks and brought them to Guru Amardas ji for the construction of Baoli Sahib.  When the Sikh reached Goindwal, the Baoli was complete.  Guru ji told the Sikh to make a well in his village and that he would come there in his 8th incarnation to bathe from the well) The Nishan was instilled by Guru ji.  Some Sikhs were told to stay and take care of the place.  As Satguru ji said this, the people said: “Dhan, Dhan!”

Guru ji stayed that day and blessed the Sikhs.  He dispelled the pain of many.  Many Sikhs came and saw the place of Panjokhra Sahib.  They did Guru ji’s Darshan.  Guru ji, the Omniscient One, gave the Sikhs his Darshan and blessed them.  Seeing the love of the Sikhs, Guru ji stayed there for some time.  He had and evening Divaan there, sitting in a nice place.  He gave his Darshan and fulfilled the wishes of the Sikhs.  He completed the traditions of the Guru’s home.  All of the traditions were carried out.  The Sangat brought many gifts.  Guru ji fulfilled their wishes.  The Sangat left with a lot of joy and peace.

10-38 The Jheevar made to Translate the Geeta

The night passed and the morning came.  Sri Satguru ji bathed and got ready.  He wanted to leave quickly.  Guru ji left some Masands in Panjokhra and said to them: “when the Sangat comes in great numbers, keep them here and tell them the words of the Guru.  Nobody should go further from here to follow me.  They should do the Darshan of this place and return home.  This is the wish of the Satguru.”  Guru ji said this to the Sikhs and started his travels further.  He boarded the chariot and head off with ease.  The chariot had strong steeds pulling it.  They would dance as they rose.  The soldiers and Masands followed with expensive clothes and weapons.  They looked very radiant.  They all followed Satguru ji.  They travelled during the day and set up camp at night.  They would all eat and then rest the night.  They all slept the night in peace.  They got ready in the morning and head off again.  They continued their travels in this way.

As Guru ji and the Sikhs travelled, they reached a village where the camp was set.  The chariots and army rested.  There was a knowledgeable Pandit, named Lal Chand, that lived here.  (Other Historical accounts mention that the events in this Katha occurred at Panjokhra Sahib) Pandit Lal Chand had studied the Vedas, Shasters, Vedangs, Nirukt, Vyakarana, Pingal etc.  The Pandit was egotistical about his knowledge.  He was proud of his knowledge and also proud of his caste.  He was proud of being a Brahmin, of the highest caste.  He didn’t see anyone equal to him.  He would debate with other scholas and argue with them.  He would defeat others in debates and destroy their pride.  He would tease them after winning them.  He had pride over his knowledge.  The knowledge that was supposed to destroy his ego and give him Mukti, he used it to overpower other scholars.  Pandit Lal Chand had heard about Guru Har Krishan Sahib ji setting up camp in his village.  He casually went to see him.

The Pandit asked one of the Sikhs: “who has come here?  Where has he come from and where is he going?  What is his name?”  The Sikh said: “this is the Satguru.  He is known in the word as Sri Guru Har Krishan Sahib ji.  He sits on the Throne of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji.  He is the Avtaar of Hari.  His conscious is of the Parmeshwar’s.”  The Brahmin heard this and couldn’t tolerate it.  He was egotistical.  He didn’t like Guru ji’s glory.  He was blinded by his ego.  He was amazed to hear the name.  he said: “Sri Krishan ji came in Duapar.  He was the great Avatar that came.  This Guru has kept a name bigger than Sri Krishan ji.  He kept his name: “Sri Guru Hari Krishan ji.”  It’s such a big name.  Sri Krishan ji wrote a great Granth called the “Geeta.”  People listen to the Granth and walk on the righteous path.  The translations of the Saloks are great.  This Guru is young.  He won’t even be able to read the Geeta.  He can’t possibly know the translations.  It’s easy to keep big names but nobody has the qualities of Sri Krishan ji.  If his name is true to him, he should translate the Geeta for me.  Otherwise his claim to his name is false.  I will not accept it.  I don’t accept what you say.”  The Sikh heard this and said: “stay here.  I will go and ask Satguru ji what his wish is.  The Guru is omnipotent and omniscient.  He is all-powerful.  He is capable in every way.  He will give you your response if he wishes.”

The Sikh went to Guru ji.  He bowed his head and explained the Brahmin’s doubt: “the Brahmin is standing outside.  What shall I say to him?”  Guru ji heard this and smiled.  He said: “the Brahmin is without faith.  I have come to know this.  If you want to respond to him, send him to me.  I will tell him what he wants to hear.  He is doubting like a big fool.  The eyes of the wisdom are pure but sometimes the cataract can distort the vision.  Ego is the cataract.  One can’t see the self then.  If one can’t see the self, then one is truly blind.  He can’t see qualities in anyone else because of ego.  The Prabhoo is very far from this point.  He hasn’t even started walking yet.  To remove this pain, only the Satguru is the good doctor.  The medicine is the speech of the Guru.  The Brahmin is a high caste.  He is proud of that.  He is proud of his knowledge.  He has 2 egos.  He is blind in both eyes.  He is in pain.  Call him.  The Sikh is benevolent.  One should treat the ones in pain.”  The Sikh went to the Brahmin and said: “come to the Guru and ask him what you wish.  I told him what you said and so Satguru ji has called you to him.”  The Brahmin was surprised and went to Guru ji.

The Brahmin started thinking of many questions.  With pride in his mind, the Brahmin sat near Satguru ji.  He saw the gem of the Sodhis, in the child-form.  Guru ji said: “tell me Brahmin.  What would you like to ask?  Tell me what is in your heart.”  The Brahmin said: “Sri Krishan ji was a great Avatar.  There was a lot of Gyaan in his heart.  He wrote the Geeta which is the form of Brahmgyaan.  Whoever listens to the Geeta, they get Gyaan.  You have kept your name bigger than Sri Krishan ji.  You call yourself “Sri Guru Har Krishan ji.”  You then sit of the Ghaddi of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  You call yourself the “Guru” within the world.  I have some great questions regarding the Geeta.  Give me the answers, as you are known as the greatest.  What Sri Krishan ji has written, translate them so I can see this.  My doubt about your name will go away.  Otherwise I will think that your name is not good.”  Sri Guru Har Krishan ji heard this and said: “I have understood you to be a debating Brahmin.  If I translate the Geeta for you, your doubt won’t be gone.  You won’t be calm.  You will say: “he is rich and with great Karma.  Someone must have taught him the meanings of the Geeta in a great way.  He must have heard the translations before from someone.”  You won’t have faith.  For this reason, do this: go to the village and find an uneducated fool. Bring him here, since you know your own village.  He will give you the answers to your questions.  He will answer your deepest questions.”  The Pandit heard Guru ji’s tasteful words.  The Pandit was shocked.  His ego was a little stirred.

The Pandit went to the village and saw a Jheevar named Chajhoo there.  He was uneducated and mentally handicapped.  He was deaf and could not speak.  He would tow water to everyone’s home in the village from the well.  He was quite foolish.  He couldn’t speak and would only work as much that would fill his stomach.  His complexion was dark and his clothes were ripped.  He hadn’t even seen educated people.  Being educated himself was a far-fetched thought.  He was not good-looking nor well-maintained.  He was a fool and unwise.  The Pandit grabbed Chajhoo’s arm and said: “do a task for me as well.  You can come back after.  I need you for an hour or two.  You can come back to do your work again.”

The Pandit came to where Sri Satguru ji was sitting, radiantly.  Pandit Lal Chand seated Chajhoo in front of Guru ji and sat himself with eagerness.  He was curious to see what Guru ji would do.  He had already thought of very difficult questions in his mind.  He thought to himself: “how can this Jheevar’s wisdom get any better?”  Sri Guru Har Krishan Sahib ji heard the mind of the Pandit.  He casted his vision on Chajhoo and blessed him.  Guru ji smiled and said: “oh Brahmin, what you have thought of in your mind, say it now.”  Guru ji looked at Chajhoo and said: “answer his questions and clear his doubts.  Clearly answer the questions.  His crocked mind should become straight.”  Satguru ji placed his cane on top of the Jheevar’s head and made him into a scholar of the 4 Vedas, 6 Shastras, 18 Puranas, 17 Simritees, 9 Vyakaranas, 6 Vedangas, and many other skills.  The Jheevar spoke in Sanskrit: “oh Brahmin, towards which Shaster do you have questions for?  Tell me this first.”  He spoke in Sanskrit as if he was a deep and wise scholar.  The Pandit shook.  He recited the Saloks and the Jheevar answered his question.  The Brahmin asked about 10 questions and the Jheevar gave him 20 answers in no time.  The wise Masands and the soldiers all looked on as the conversation between the Brahmin and the Jheevar carried on.  Everyone was amazed to see this miracle.  They said to each other: “the mute person is speaking like a scholar.  He spoke the meanings of the difficult Vedas.  His body and clothes are dirty.  He is of a lowly caste.  He doesn’t even let the Brahmin speak.  The Pandit has gone quiet.  He has no more questions.”  The ego of the knowledge the Brahmin had was gone.  His good Karma came into fruition.  He became humble.  His ego was destroyed.  He folded his hands and bowed towards Guru Har Krishan ji.  He bowed with love and faith now.  He said: “I have seen your unlimited glory.  You are truly the form of Sri Krishan ji.  You are “Sri Guru Har Krishan Sahib ji.”  There is no doubt in my mind now.  I don’t see any difference between you and Sri Krishan ji.  You are the same Jot.  There is nothing else.  Please save me form this world ocean.  Please have compassion and take care of your promise towards your servants.”  The handsome Sri Satguru spoke: “you are born in the high caste of Brahmins.  You are a scholar but why do you do this unorthodox thing?  Do the Simran of Satnam and believe it with your mind.”  The Brahmin removed his Janyow and said: “I am your Sikh now.  I have no pride towards my caste anymore.  I only seek your support now.  I come to your sanctuary.”  Guru ji stopped him and said: “stay as you are.  Do the Simran of Satnam.  That will give you Mukti.”  The Brahmin did not accept.  He kept insisting.  He said: “I wish to be in your sanctuary now.”  He grabbed Satguru ji’s feet.  He took the Charanpahul from Satguru ji and became a Sikh.  He saw the righteous path and understood the glory of the Guru.

10-39 Guru ji Comes to Delhi

As soon as the Jheevar left Guru ji’s Dhera, his wisdom reverted back to as he was before.  He did not have the same Gyaan anymore as he did when Guru blessed him.  Seeing the greatness of the Satguru, the Brahmin, Pandit Lal Chand ji, who had the Gyaan in his heart, became a Sikh and made his life a success.  He spent his time independent form attachment and delusion.  He was in bliss.

Satguru ji spent the night and prepared to leave in the morning.  He headed towards Delhi.  The army followed Guru ji.  They all came playing the Nagaras and Ransinghas.  The Nishans were unfurled.  The Naqeebs and Bhatts sang the praises of Guru ji.  Guru ji travelled in a palanquin.  Two Sikhs waived Chaurs on the both sides.  Guru ji wore royal clothes and golden jewellery.  Guru ji kept a cane in his hand which he dangled from right to left.  Men and women stood on the street to see Guru ji.  Guru ji’s child-form was mesmerizing for the Sangat.  There was only one day left to reach Delhi.  The messenger of Jai Singh came to Guru ji and said: “I will write a letter and tell the Raja that you are arriving tomorrow.  The Raja will be happy and come to meet you ahead.  He will receive you along with the Sangat of Delhi.  He will respect you with greatness.  You will enter Delhi with royal grandeur.  He will come with respect.  The Sangat will come to see you.”  Satguru ji heard this and said: “the wish that I have, you already know.  There won’t be any change in my wishes.  Tell the Raja that I am determined to keep my vow.  I won’t meet the Turk.  You need to make all of the preparations.  Don’t compel me to go.  Tell your Raja this.  I am coming to meet everyone.  Tell the Sangat of the Guru as well.  The senior Masands should come.”  When Guru ji commanded this, the messenger got ready and went back to the Raja.

The messenger came to the Raja quickly with joy.  He met Jai Singh Svaee and told him the facts.  He said: “Maharaj, listen to my words: you are fortunate.  I have seen Guru ji’s power before.  He can make the impossible task, possible.  Guru ji had no wish to come here.  He wouldn’t accept anyone’s request of coming to Delhi.  He heard your name and decided to come here.  He is the support in both worlds for his Sikhs.  There was a big reason why he didn’t want to come.  Listen, I will tell you: he didn’t want to see the Malaich.  He didn’t want the Malaich to see him.  His father had made the same vow.  His father fulfilled his vow to the very end.  When the Guru sat on the Ghaddi, he made the same vow as his father.  He wants to fulfill his vow like his father.  He didn’t want to come here.  He’d rather go to the jungle.  He made requests of love on your behalf.  I told him: “my raja wants Mukti form you.”  I told him that you bow to his feet many times.  I asked him to come and help us keep our honour.  I told Guru ji about your promise to the Badshah.  I asked him to help us fulfill our promise: “please come to Delhi and give us your Darshan.  You can do as you wish after.  You can see the Shah if you wish.  We won’t make any requests to meet the Badshah.”  I made many requests to him.  He saw your love and stopped thinking about everything.  He decided to come, seeing you as his servant.  Lakhs of Sangat come to him in Kiratpur.  Thousands come from many different lands.  They bring him many gifts of love.  Money and gifts pile up in his court.  The Sikhs give the gifts and bow to his feet.  From all 4 directions of the land, they all see Guru ji as Parmeshwar and worship him.  He fulfills everyone’s wishes.  He is in child-form and very beautiful.  I can’t even begin to describe his qualities.  His praise crosses many oceans.  You are fortunate, Raja ji, that Guru ji agreed to come.  Many people from many lands come to see him.  You must have good Karma from many births.  You are going to get his Darshan.  Remain in his command.  Do as he says.  Don’t disobey him.  Do as he wishes.  His brother, Baba Ram Rai, is like a pond; Guru ji is like the ocean of powers.  His patience is like the earth’s.  He doesn’t show his powers.  His power is deep.  Let’s leave in the morning to receive him.  Let’s meet him with gifts.  Let’s meet him with respect.  We must stay humble in front of him.  You will get what you wish for.  Do his Seva with love and devotion.  I made all these requests to Guru ji.  The Sangat met Guru ji on the way.”  The Raja was happy to hear all this.  He bowed to Guru ji with his mind.  He had faith and devotion in his heart.  The lotus of love bloomed in his heart.  His face became radiant.  He prepared his army and ministers to leave.  He prepared many gifts and baskets of flowers for the reception.

In the morning, Raja Jai Singh mounted his horse and left.  He wanted to see the Guru.  Many soldiers and ministers followed.  The Raja went ahead 5 km to meet Guru ji.  The Raja was barefoot.  He came off his horse and bowed towards Guru ji with humility from afar.  He came close to the palanquin and bowed.  Guru ji told the carriers to stop.  The Raja bowed.  Guru ji asked how the Raja was.  The Raja folded his hands and exchanged pleasantries.  Guru ji told the Raja to mount his horse and continue with the travel.  Everyone travelled slowly towards the city.  The Sangat showered flowers.  The Raja looked towards Guru ji with love.  The Masands came with the Sangat.  They all met Guru ji and presented their gifts.  Guru ji greeted everyone as he travelled.  The palanquin entered Delhi.  The area of Jaisinghpura (currently Bangla Sahib) is where Raja Jai Singh took Guru ji.  Whichever street Guru ji travelled, people showered flowers on Guru ji.  They folded their hands and bowed to the holder of the Throne of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  The people said: “Sri Ram Rai ji, who had come before, his brother has now come.  He is the one on the Guru Ghaddi.  He has the powers of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  He is a child but very wise.  He is the Peer of Peers.  He is the most patient one.”  Guru ji passed in the streets as the people praised him.  Chaurs waived over Guru ji’s head.  Great crowds gathered to see Guru ji.  The palanquin moved slowly.  As the Dhera came close, Raja Jai Singh came off his horse and came to Guru ji.  He helped Guru ji off the palanquin and took Guru ji towards his palace.  The home of the Raja was cool in the summer and warm in the winters.  It was pleasant in all 6 Ruts.  He laid a beautiful bed for Guru ji.  Many sheets were laid on the bed.  A nice canopy was tied overhead.  Guru ji was seated with respect on the bed.  Everyone sat with a deep respect.  The Raja bowed and sat near Guru ji.  Guru ji and the Raja had pleasant conversations.  The Masands said to the Sangat that came for Guru ji’s Darshan: “do Guru ji’s Darshan tomorrow to make your eyes pure.  This is Satguru ji’s wish.”  Hearing the command, the Sikhs of the city bowed and went to their homes.  They said: “we will come again to do his Darshan.”

10-40 Stay in Delhi

Sri Satguru ji came into Delhi.  The Raja served Guru ji in many ways.  Raja Jai Singh was happy to do the Seva.  Guru ji ate many types of foods and slept the night.  Guru ji woke up at Amritvela and bathed.  The Sangat woke up as well and got ready.  Raja Jai Singh wore a new set of clothes and was going to go to the Badshah but went to Guru ji first.  He bowed to Guru ji’s feet first and said: “I am going to the Badshah to tell him that you are here.  Please give me permission to go to the Badshah.  I will praise you there and give him the news that you are here.  I will make the Badshah bow to you.”  Satguru ji heard this and said: “I will never meet him.  Tell him that I am here but will not meet him.  I have nothing to do with the Badshah.  Nothing to give.  Nothing to take.  I came here because of your love.  I told your minister of my vow.  I am here because you promised the Badshah you will bring me here.  I came to fulfill your promise.  I heard your promise and decided to come for your honour but I won’t see the Badshah.  He killed his own father and brothers.  He killed many saints.  I only came because of your love.  I had no other reason to come here.  I won’t break my vow.  I won’t see the Turk, nor will I let him see me.  This vow cannot be broken.  I told you my vow.  You are wise.  Think about everything you are going to say to the Badshah.”  Hearing Guru ji’s vow, the Raja went into deep thought.  He bowed and went to the Badshah.

Raja Jai Singh entered the court of Aurangzeb.  The Raja folded his hands and said: “I have promised you that I would bring Sri Guru Har Krishan Sahib ji to Delhi and let the Sangat of Delhi see him.  He is filled with many powers and miracles.  He is staying at my home.  The rest is the wish of both sides.  You can both do as you wish.  Whatever I said in the court, I have fulfilled my promise.  I am happy about this.”  The Shah heard this and gave his Umraav instructions and money: “take gifts: dry fruits, money and other stuff.  Bow to the Guru for me and request him when he could give me his Darshan.  I will go see him when he wishes to.”

The Badshah’s Umraav went to go see Guru ji.  He sent a Sikh with news to Guru ji.  The Sikh said: “the Shah has sent his messenger to see you.  He wishes to come and meet you.”  When Guru ji heard this he had a tent set up for court.  The warriors set up the tents.  Guru ji made the Turks sit outside the tent.  Many Masands and Mevras stood and did the Ardaas’s of the Sangat.  The Sikhs of Delhi came to see Guru ji.  They brought many types of gifts.  The Rababis sang Shabads in great Raags.  The fortunate ones heard the Keertan with love.  The Sikhs waived Chaurs over Guru ji’s head.  The Sikhs were happy to see Guru ji.  The Shah’s messenger came into the court.  The Umraav placed the gifts.  He was received in the court after bowing.  He said to Guru ji after presenting the gifts and money: “these gifts are for you.  The Emperor bows to you.  He wishes to have your Darshan.  Whatever is your wish, that is what I will say to the Emperor.”  The messenger was standing as Satguru ji heard this.  Guru ji said: “my elder brother is capable in every way to show miracles.  He can do anything he wishes to.  He meets the Badshah regularly.  Whatever answers the Shah wants, my brother gives.  Our father was the complete Satguru.  I follow his command.  He said from his own beautiful mouth, the wisdom of greatness.  He told me: “your elder brother is wise.  He has gone to Delhi at the Badshah’s invitation.  He is eligible.  He is capable of showing any miracle he wishes.  Whatever the Badshah wishes to see, your brother will show him.  You shouldn’t wish to go to Delhi.  Don’t wish this in your heart.  If you do go to Delhi, go to meet the Sangat of Delhi.  To meet the Badshah, don’t have the wish of meeting him.  For the two brothers to meet in one place, jealousy will come about.  There is no friend in this world like a brother if there is love in the heart.  There is greatness in siblings.  When people give the best examples, Ram and Lakshaman are mentioned as ideal brothers.  They were with deep love.  Brothers with deep love can do the impossible.  There is also no worse enemy than a brother.  There can be no one worse.  Ravan and Bhabheeshan were brothers.  Bhabheeshan gave away the secret to killing Ravan to Ram Chander ji.  Sugreev had his brother killed.  Dara Shikoh was the Emperor’s brother.  He was killed by the Emperor.  That was bad.  There have been many brothers in the world.  Who can count them?  The ones that can’t be killed by anyone, can be killed by their own brothers.  They can be killed by deception.”  Our father had said all this to me.  He thought about all this and stopped me from seeing the Badshah.  I don’t have the strength to go against my father’s words.  I am determined to follow his words like the Sumer Mountain.  I will die but not go against his instructions.  I won’t back down.  This is my decision.  You can tell your Shah this.  He should not wish to meet me.  Tell him all this.  I am under my father’s command.”  The Umraav heard this and thought deeply.  He thought to himself: “he is young but really wise.  He proves to be a warrior by his words.  His long-term vision is excellent.  He is the master of many powers.  He has no wish to see the Badshah.  The Badshah wishes to meet him.  People see greatness in seeing the Badshah but the Guru does not wish this.  There is no other courageous saint like him.  He was called by the Badshah but he refused with bravery.  Only he is like this.  The Guru of Hindus and Peer of Muslims, whoever the Badshah invites, nobody refuses him.”  The Umraav praised Guru ji in his mind.  He folded his hands and bowed.  He was amazed as he returned.  He thought of Guru ji’s greatness in his mind as he went back home.

The Umraav came to the Badshah and did his Salaam.  He told the facts to the Shah: “the Guru sends his happiness and blessings.  He told me of his vow not to see the Badshah.  He follows his father of not seeing you.  He won’t change, no matter what the storm.”  He told the Shah everything about the brothers.  Nauranga understood everything.  He thought: “he is deep.  His elder brother is egotistical.  He had his brother called because of jealousy.  The Guru’s words have forgiveness.  He has no ego or jealousy.  He is the rightful heir to the Gurta Ghaddi.  He has unlimited powers.  It is not right for me to call him here without his wish.  I shouldn’t force him to come.”  Nauranga knew not to bother Guru ji.  He knew that Guru ji was too big for him.  He stayed quiet after thinking about all this.
