10-31 Sri Ram Rai Meets the Badshah

Sri Ram Rai was thinking of many ways to call his younger brother.  He was looking for an opportunity to speak to the Badshah.  One day, the Badshah said: “I have found out that Guru Har Rai ji has left the world.”  The Badshah asked further: “your father, Baba ji, was known to the whole world.  What was the cause of his leaving his body?  You didn’t go to see him at his end time.  Did you not know about his passing?  Why didn’t you go?  What was the reason?  Who is taking care of his property and household?  Who takes care of it all, as he did?  Who has the Gurta Ghaddi now?  Who is making the place grow?”  Baba Ram Rai ji saw his opportunity and said: “listen Shah, I was sent here by my father.  I came by his command.  He sent a lot of assets and wealth with me.  He sent a lot of Sikhs with me.  He sent me here with joy and gave me anything I needed.  Since I came to you, many new people have become my Sikhs.  The Sangat has grown many times.  I meet with you and we are now close.  You have seen my powers.  For these reasons, my assets, elephants, horses and wealth has grown.  The Sangat keeps growing here.  Sikhi has spread to many lands.  Men and women come to do my Darshan here.  They bring a lot of money and gifts.  Rich and poor bring money.  Sri Guru Pitha ji heard that I had matured and become wise.  He knew that I had grown with my following and wealth.  He saw me as capable and omnipotent in every way.  He saw the youngest son as immature and young.  He left all his wealth and assets for my younger brother.  Because my brother lived with him, he loved him and was closer to him during that time.  For this reason, he left all of the Sikh followers with him.  There were other reasons for this, he got angry at me.  I will tell you all of that.  I was close to you.  I spent a lot of time with you.  Whatever you asked for, I used my powers and showed you what you wanted.  My father got news of everything.  He didn’t like me showing my powers to that level.  He heard about all my powers and got angry.  He said: “if he is going to be so close to the Badshah and keep on showing him miracles, this is not good.  He is fixing every little fault or problem.  He gave him the Padmani woman, the Dariya horse and other things.  This is not a good thing he did.  He does what he is asked for.  He has become his servant and obeys his every command.  He does not say “no” to the Badshah.  For this reason, he should stay with the Badshah.  He has no place here.  He should not come back to me again.  Stay with the Shah forever.  Stay there and don’t come to Kiratpur.  Don’t come close to my body.  He shows the Shah miracles everyday.”  Pitha ji then sent a Hukamnama to me, saying all these things.  When I read the Hukamnama, I let go of any hope of going back home.  I didn’t go back home out of fear of my father.  I was afraid of my fearless father cursing me.  When his end-time came, he made his younger son sit on the Ghaddi.  The Sikh Sangat was attached to his feet then, they were made to follow him.  He gave my brother all the wealth, property and powers.  The senior Sikhs, Masands and the servants, who travelled to all the lands, they were all made as my brother’s followers.  He assigned everything to my brother by all the great traditions.  He instructed his younger son after giving him all of the powers: “don’t go to meet the Badshah of Delhi.  Don’t go to see him nor let him see you.  Don’t show your powers to anyone.  Keep them hidden.  Tolerate the intolerable.  No matter what happens, keep patience like the earth, like Guru Arjan Dev ji.”  In this way, he gave him specific instructions.  He blessed my brother with his divine vision.  My father was the great and powerful Sri Guru Har Rai ji.  He left his body as everyone watched.  I was with you so this is the loss I had to endure.  I was deserving and eligible in every way.  Everything was given to my younger brother.”

Hearing Sri Ram Rai’s words, the Shah spoke with clever eyes: “tell me: what do you care?  You have everything you need.  You have a lot more than your brother.  You should stay as the Guru of this side.  Take the money and gifts from the Sikhs.  You should stay with me.  Delhi is the highest and best place.  If there is some other land you like, I can have a Dhera made for you there.  Whatever place makes you happy, I will get a place made for you there.  I will assign many Jagirs for you of many villages.  You can live there with peace and joy.  Whatever is your wish, tell me.  I will fulfill all of your desires.  You can ask for anything.  You have many powers.  You completed all of my tasks.  I am very happy with you.  I will make a home for where you want to live.  Don’t be upset towards your father or your brother.  He is after all your own brother.  He can have his Sangat do his Pooja.  He is not ruining anything for you.  I heard that he is very young.  He doesn’t go anywhere and stays in his home.  You shouldn’t be jealous towards him.  You should continue with your great work.”

Baba Ram Rai heard the Shah’s word and spoke: “oh I don’t care about anything.  I’m not even a little concerned.  I have a lot of Sangat from many lands.  On top of that, I am your friend.  You are the king of the whole land.  You send me many gifts and money.  You have given me the rarest things.  I have no shortage.  I do what you say.  You do what I say.  There are a few things that worry me though.  Firstly, I deserved the Ghaddi.  My younger brother took that.  He took all of the followers and the wealth.  My father gave him all of his greatest powers.  He is more powerful than I.  The Masands and Sangat, he has now.  This was injustice towards me.  I couldn’t do anything about this.  Sri Guru ji gives by his own will.  Nobody can reverse what he did.  Nobody is able to do that.  That has passed.  My younger brother had a good destiny. The other thing that bothers me is that because I came to you, the Sikhs slander me a lot.  I only obeyed you.  You wanted to see my powers.  I showed you miracles to make you happy.  My father and his servants are angry with me.  I did what you asked me to do.  I showed you my powers.  My father did send me here for that reason.  By the powers I showed, the glory and reputation of my father grew.  If I hadn’t done that, my father’s honour would have gone sour.  Pitha ji was only a little upset.  The Sikhs around him made matters worse.  The Sikhs are angry with me.  The senior Masands and the Sikhs have accused me wrongly.  The meeting that you and I do, this is considered bad.  They blame me as being your ally.  I am being slandered.  I can’t tolerate this pain.  Both of us are being slandered.  For this reason, you should think about something that the whole world knows.  Send a messenger to my brother to call him here.  Have him come here.  My brother has more than a thousand times the powers that I have.  He sits on the Ghaddi of Sri Satguru ji.  You can ask him to do anything you want.  Call him to Delhi once.  Everyone will stop slandering me then.  Just as I came, he will come here too.  My brother won’t say anything about me.  When he comes here, his Sangat will stop slandering me.  This really bothers me.  It is like a thorn in my heart; like a broken shrapnel of an arrow or spear, stuck in my heart.  This is in your hands now.”  Kavi Santokh Singh ji writes in this way.

10-32 The Badshah Thinks about Calling Sri Guru Har Krishan Sahib ji

The elder son of Sri Guru Har Rai ji was full of jealousy.  He wanted his brother in the same state as him.  He had told the Badshah to call Guru Har Krishan Sahib ji to come to Delhi.  Nauranga heard Baba Ram Rai and thought to himself: “he is jealous of his brother.  The Guru is young in age.  He is too young to leave his mother.  If I call him, how will he come?  He hasn’t left his home yet.  Brothers are usually jealous of each other.  Baba Ram Rai is against his brother.  He doesn’t want the best for him.  What happened in my home; I had to kill my brothers to become the Emperor; this fire is in every home.  There is great pain in family politics.  These two have the same issues.  Just as in my situation, I was younger and took the throne; his brother took the Gurta Ghaddi.  If a send a messenger, the Guru may curse him in anger.  I had called Guru Har Rai ji before but he sent his elder son.  He gave him powers and sent him here.  Whatever I wanted to see, he showed me in every good way.  If I use force to call the Guru, he may think: “the Shah has enmity towards the Guru.”  Everyone will think this.  If I have the elder brother, why should I ask for the younger to come?”  Nauranga thought about this and said: “what should I say to have him come here?  If I ask him to show his powers, I’ve already seen them from you.  It would be fruitless to send my messenger.  The Guru is young.  It is hard for him to travel all the way here.  You are the sons of the same Guru.  Both of you probably have the same powers.  Does he have more powers because he sits on the Gurta Ghaddi and was given the Tilak?  If he has more powers than you, when he is a little older, I will call for him.  It won’t be right for me to call him here now.  I won’t send a messenger to call for him.”

Sri Ram Rai heard this and said: “this is a good thought that you had.  There are two ways of calling him: calling him with ego and using force or calling him with humility.  If you forcefully call him, he may think that this is wrong and curse you out of anger.  The great beings say that humility is the best way.  If you request him to come, your problems will be destroyed and there will be prosperity in your home.  Think about this.  He will come and it will be good for you.  Request him to come with humility.  Think about a way he can come and you can be in joy as well.  Give him respect and call him.  Do his Darshan and sit with him.”

As Baba Ram Rai was speaking, Raja Jai Singh of Jaipur was sitting in the court.  He heard the whole conversation and said: “what the son of the Guru has said is good.  You should call the Guru with humility.  I think it is a good thing.  Something like this has happened before.  The elder Guru came to your grandfather.  Jahangir was great.  He called the elder of Baba ji with humility.  Guru Hargobind Sahib ji came with his bow in his hand when he was called with humility.  He was on good terms with the Badshah.  The Shah folded his hands one day and said: “Guru ji, do Malas for my name by which my problems will be washed away.”  He said this under the directions of the Nazoomi.  He kept Guru ji in the Gwalior court to do the Simran.  It was a big jail.  There were many prisoners there.  Guru Hargobind Sahib ji still accepted his request and went to the big jail fort.  He did a lot of Simran there for the Shah.  The Rajputs that were imprisoned there, Guru ji provided food and clothes for them while he was there.  After doing the Chalisa, the Shah called Guru ji from there but Guru ji had the other Rajputs released.  All of the Rajput Rajas know about this.  There were 52 of them that were released.  Guru ji is the Purshotam.  He is the greatest being.  He only accepts requests with humility.  Pride doesn’t work in front of him.  This is the family of the Satguru.  Praise him with humility.  Why wouldn’t he be happy?  He will come without delay.  Respect him and call him.”  Raja Jai Singh said this to the Shah.  The Emperor liked this idea.

Nauranga thought to himself: “I will send Raja Jai Singh to call the Guru here.  He will request the Guru to come.  If the Guru gets anger, Jai Singh will have to suffer the brunt.  If he gets happy, then he will give me his Darshan.  He will meet everyone.”  Nauranga thought about this and said: “Jai Singh Svaee, you are wise.  I assign you to this task.  Call the Guru and bring him here.  Send one of your senior officers to call the Guru.  Make sure the Guru doesn’t get angry.  Bring him to Delhi.  Send different types of traveling methods so he can choose how he wants to travel.  Make other preparations for him to stay here.  However he wants to travel, he can choose.  He is young but his wisdom is deep.  Take many types of gifts for him to make him happy.  Take my request for him.  Make sure you make him happy.  He shouldn’t feel like he’s being forced to come here.  We should get his Darshan.  Give him respect.  Take a lot of gifts.  You should make a request to him to come: “please come to Delhi and visit it.  Give your Darshan to the Sangat in Delhi.  Give us joy as well.  See me as your servant and bless me.”  Write this from yourself and myself.”  The Raja of Jaipur heard this and said: “I will do this.  Whatever Seva I can do for Satguru ji, I will do.  Firstly, you have asked this of me.  Secondly, I will get to do his Darshan.  He will bless me with boons.  I will make him happy in many ways.  He will come to you for sure.  I have heard that doing his Darshan makes all of the pains go away.  His radiance his great.  Many people have said this in his praise.”  This conversation happened in the court of the Badshah.  They all decided to call Guru ji to Delhi with humility.

The Shah got up and went to his palace.  Everyone else left the Qila and went to their own Dheras.  Some mounted their palanquins and some mounted their horses and left.  Some agreed with Baba Ram Rai saying: “he is the Tika of great powers.”  Some talked bad about him, saying: “he didn’t do a good thing.  He has hatred towards his younger brother.  He is jealous of him.  Whoever the father gave the greatness too, all of the wealth and following was given to him.  Sri Guru Har Krishan ji is still a child but his brother used deception to call him to Delhi.  He tricked the Badshah so he could see miracles.  He is still a child.  His brother shouldn’t have planned this deception.  The Guru took care of what was given to him by his father.  He didn’t take anything by force.  Sri Guru Har Rai ji was angry with Baba Ram Rai and didn’t want to see him.  There is no fault of Guru Har Krishan ji in this.  He doesn’t deserve this deception.  The Badshah was avoiding the situation but Baba Ram Rai convinced him.  He convinced him with deception.  Both brothers are filled with powers.  When both brothers get together, who knows what will happen.  Who knows who will say what.  Whatever they say is never fruitless.  They are like experienced archers.  Whoever is a good archer, they never miss.”  In this way, the Soobas spoke to each other.  They knew right from wrong.  The son of the Guru came back to his Dhera.  He was happy with the decisions made in the court.

10-33 Jai Singh’s Minister goes to Satguru ji

Baba Ram Rai convinced the Badshah to call Guru ji.  He made sure his plan was agreed to.  The son of the Guru came back to his Dhera and sat with his people.  Bhai Gurdas ji Behlo ke and others were there.  Baba Ram Rai ji was really happy.  He said to them: “Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji has completed my task.  My wishes have been fulfilled.  The Badshah agreed to call Sri Guru Har Krishan ji to Delhi.  He put Raja Jai Singh into the middle.  My brother was sitting joyfully in his home.  Now he will have to come to Delhi.  I will cause many problems here.  When the Badshah gets mad at him, where will he go?  If he comes at the calling of the Shah, I have heard that he is determined not to meet the Shah: “I won’t meet the Shah, nor will I let him meet me,” his promise will be broken when he comes here.  The Sangat and the Masands know about this vow.  Everyone will know when his vow breaks.  They will call his vow a lie.  People will say: “what kind of Guru is he?”  His Guruship will be spoiled.  People will lose faith in him.  For him to come here, that is a big fault.  People won’t have faith in his words anymore.  If he commands anyone, after that, people won’t obey, saying that he lies.  If my brother doesn’t decide to come to Delhi, seeing his vow being broken, then he won’t be able to stay in Kiratpur even in his dreams.  He won’t be able to go anywhere else.  No other Raja will keep him.  He won’t have the strength to fight.  He will have to leave his land.  He will have to go to Jungle Desh (Malva) where there is no water.  The army won’t be able to go there.  When my brother goes to the Jungle Desh, he will have to leave Kiratpur.  The wealth that he has now, he won’t have the same in Jungle.  People will fear the Badshah and not come to my brother.  They won’t meet him.  The Jungle Desh is without water.  People are upset at not having water.  The people who live there don’t have water, where will my brother get water from?  Thousands come everyday.  They won’t be able to come to Jungle.  The Sangat will slowly stop coming.  Who will come to do Darshan with so many problems?  My Guruship will radiate.  The Sikh Sangat will come to me.  The rich people will give the rich Masands their money.  I will give them Siropas.  I will call the Masands and give them respect.  When I respect them, my brother’s Masands will see this and come to me, leaving him.  They will do my Pooja.  Everyone wants joy and peace.  They go where there is joy.  This is the plan that I put into play.  Only the Satguru knows how this will carry out.  I believe in my heart that Sri Guru Har Krishan ji will not come here.  He won’t break his vow, of seeing the Shah.  He will follow his promise.  Either way, coming or not, it will be good for me.”  He said all of this to his people.  He spoke with joy.  His chest was cool.  Whatever was going to happen, he didn’t know.  He thought he was going to become the Guru.  Baba Ram Rai ate and went to sleep.  He spent the night in joy.

In the morning, Raja Jai Singh Svaee got up.  He was going to fulfill his task.  He got ready after doing his daily routines in a good way.  He sat on his throne and called his wise vizier.  He respected him.  He was a senior and very wise.  He was calm and collected.  He knew his politics well.  The Raja said to him: “the Shah has commanded me to call Sri Guru Har Krishan Sahib ji here.  He wishes to see the Guru.  He should be brought here with respect and humility.  Take different modes of travelling.  See which one the Guru likes.  Take a beautiful chariot with precious gems.  The horses should be really strong and beautiful.  The chariot should be cladded with Zarri that shines.  Use expensive and shiny clothes.  Take a palanquin with diamonds and precious gems.  Take strong carriers.  Take palanquins for the Guru’s mother, Mata ji, as well.  Bring them all with a lot of respect.  Whichever servants and maids he has, give them all a mode of transportation.  Take a few horses with you.  Take a lot of gifts for Guru ji.  Take the expensive ones.  Take money, clothes and Pashminas.  Take silk and Zarri.  Take colourful clothes for him.  Make him happy in every way first then request him with humility.  Fold your hands.  Make a request from the Badshah and myself.  Bow to him first and then make the request.  Ask him: “please come once to Delhi and give us your Darshan.  Give the Sikhs your Darshan and fulfill their wishes.”  Make sure he doesn’t get angry.  He should come in joy.  He should come on his own will.  Use this tactic.  Don’t delay.  Go now and use your wisdom.”  Raja Jai Singh Svaee made all of the preparations for his Vizier.

A lot of gifts were prepared.  The Vizier was sent off.  The Vizier travelled towards Kiratpur.  He headed west from Delhi.  Whatever Jai Singh had prepared, he kept his messengers along too.  He sent his people to Guru ji.

Baba Ram Rai ji thought to himself: “I wonder if he will come or not.  Jai Singh spoke with a lot of love and respect.  He sent a lot of clothes, jewellery, money and expensive gifts.  He sent modes of transportations and horses.  He sent beds for my brother along with tents.  He sent a wise and rich vizier to get him from Kiratpur.  My brother will see the Raja’s love.  The people near my brother will see the gifts and be happy.  They will sing his praises and bring Sri Guru Har Krishan ji to Delhi.  Raja Jai Singh will be on my brother’s side and praise him to the Shah.  He will make the Shah love my brother more than me.  I hope my tasks don’t get spoiled.  A few more may be on Raja Jai Singh’s side and praise the Guru.  The ones that come to the Shah, they may become my enemies.  I have a lot of respect here.  I hope my status does not diminish.  This won’t be a good thing.  The people will then praise my brother.  He is more powerful than I.  I hope my greatness doesn’t lessen.  I think it’s better that he doesn’t come here and meet the Shah.  If he goes to Jungle, fearing the Badshah, that would be better for me.  There is great doubt for me if he comes to Delhi.  Who knows what will happen, where?”  In this way, Baba Ram Rai was lost in his deep thought.  He was worried what would happen if his brother came to Delhi.  He wondered if Guru ji would be praised more than himself.

10-34 Raja Jai Singh’s Minister Arrives to see Sri Guru Har Krishan Sahib ji

The Minister of the King of Jaipur set off towards Kiratpur.  He slowly passed many villages on the way.  He wished to see Satguru ji.  He eventually arrived in Kiratpur with his travelling party.  Many servants were with him.  They all set up their tents.  Guru ji received news of the Minister’s arrival.  Satguru ji had Langar sent to the Minister and the people with him.  Other items were sent for their needs.  The Masands took care of everything.  The Minister and his people slept the night and got up in the morning.  They all bathed and did their daily routines.  They wore expensive clothes.  A person was sent towards Guru ji who informed the Chobdhaar of the Minister’s wishes.  The Chobdhaar came to Guru ji, folded his hands and said to Guru ji: “the great king of Jaipur, Raja Jai Singh Svaee, who stays with Aurang Shah and completes tasks for many; his Vizier Minister has come to see you.  He came to Kiratpur last night, as you know.  You have taken care of him well.  The food and stay were welcomed well.  The Vizier wishes to see you.  His messenger has sent me to ask for your permission.  They are waiting for your command.  He wishes to make his life a success by seeing you.”

The omniscient and wise Sri Guru Har Krishan ji heard this.  The Omnipotent One said: “come during the last watch of the day.  He can do the Darshan of the Satsangat.  He has come from a far distance.  He should rest longer with joy.”  When the Chobdhaar heard this, the Vizier was given this message: “come in the last watch of the day.”

At around 4 pm, Satguru ji gave the commands to prepare Takhat Sri Kot Sahib (made by Guru Hargobind Sahib ji in Kiratpur.  Gurduara Harmandir Sahib Kiratpur is right in front of it).  Guru ji said: “get ready for the evening Divaan.  Lay out rugs and tarps.  Prepare everything for the Divaan.  One should be happy seeing the Divaan.”  The servants heard this and got to work right away.  The Divaan was decorated beautifully.  A beautiful canopy with Zarri borders and precious gems was tied over top.  It was cladded with diamonds, pearls, sapphires, emeralds and rubies.  The walls had artwork crafted onto them.  The court was shining from every angle.  The rugs were laid out.  Whoever saw the court, they were happy.  The royal grandeur was brought together.  There were praises in every direction.  The court was ready.  Sri Satguru ji came to Takhat Kot Sahib.  A beautiful Throne was laid in the middle.  A white sheet was on top.  It was tied with Zarri tassels.  The Hari Prabhoo sat on the Throne.  The Bhatts and Naqeebs sang his praises.  The warriors came to the court, holding their weapons.  Many Masands and Mevras stood in the court, doing the Ardaas.  The Chaurs were waived over Guru ji’s head.  The Chaurbardaars wore nice clothes as well.  4 Chaurs waived over Guru ji’s head like swans flying over the Mansarovar.  Guru ji was the idol of Brahmgyaan.  His body was of a child.  His body parts were beautiful.  His wisdom was beyond comprehension.  When he spoke, it was like an elderly person speaking.  His feet had red toenails which attracted the Jogis.  Guru ji wore a Chola of fine fabrics.  His shoulders had an expensive stall on it.  His shoulders were high and his arms were long.  His golden earrings were decorated with emeralds and rubies.  He wore golden bracelets in his wrists.  He tied a Cheera to his head with a Jigha and Kalgi, looking radiant.  Diamonds and pearls shined on his Kalgi and Dastaar.  The diamonds were exquisitely cut by the best diamond cutters.  It was like the moon of Kathak Pooranmaashi.  His face was radiant.  When he smiled, his teeth attracted everyone.  The Sikhs kept staring at him like Chakors staring at the moon.  The Divaan was ready.  The Rababis wore expensive clothes and came to sing the Keertan in various Raags.  Rababis (like Bhai Chatra ji) did Keertan.  Whoever heard the Keertan, they were in bliss.

A servant was sent to call the Vizier.  The Naubats sounded at the door.  The Vizier bowed at the door and brought his gifts inside.  He bowed to Guru ji and presented the gifts.  He stood in Guru ji’s presence and did his Darshan.  Guru ji and the Vizier both wore beautiful clothes.  Guru ji was calm and sat in the middle.  The Sangat came to do Guru ji’s Darshan.  They brought many gifts and had their wishes fulfilled.  The Mevras did their Ardaas, standing up.  Men and women were amazed to see Guru ji.  People from many lands came to visit Guru ji.  The Vizier saw the grandeur of the Guru’s court.  He was happy and folded his hands.  He bowed his head to Guru ji and sat with faith and devotion.  He folded his hands and said: “whose capital is Jaipur; the king’s name is Raja Jai Singh Svaee.  He stays in the presence of the Badshah.  He folds his hands and makes his request to you: “I bow to your lotus feet.  Your Darshan is like the sun destroying the darkness.”  The Raja wishes to see you.  Please come to Delhi and give us your Darshan.  The Sangat of Delhi wishes to see you.  Please bless them once.  There is another reason: Raja Jai Singh was told by Aurangzeb: “call Guru ji to Delhi in any way.”  The Badshah and the Raja have sent written requests for you.”  The Vizier gave his Navisindh (administrator) the requests.  Guru ji’s Navisindhs read the requests.  The omniscient Guru understood everything.  He understood the Raja’s request.  He understood his brother’s deceitful plan.  Knowing everything, Sri Guru Har Krishan ji had no sorrow.  The evening Divaan went one.  The Sangat did his Darshan.  The Shabads were completed and the Mevra did the Ardaas for the Divaan’s conclusion.

Satguru ji got up and went to his home, Sheeshmahal.  He sat on his bed.  Everyone else went to their places to rest.  The minister came to his Dhera.  Baba Ram Rai with his deceitful plan, the reason for why the minister was there; everyone in Kiratpur figured this out.  People said to each other: “Baba Ram Rai is jealous.  He made the Badshah call Guru Har Krishan ji.  This is not a good thing he did.  Baba Ram Rai is jealous of his younger brother.  Guru ji’s body is still young.  He called him to Nauranga who is corrupt and deceitful.  He likes to argue and quarrel.  He is stubborn and does what he wants.  Who knows what he will see to Guru ji?  The brother is his enemy as well.  The saints and Fakirs Nauranga has captured, the Shah debates with them and kills them.  He does not fear Parmeshwar.  He is a big fool who preaches a strict version of the Shariya.  He wants to implement the Shariya everywhere.”  In Kiratpur, this is what everyone talked about.  They didn’t like what was being done.  It was a bad thing that they were calling Guru ji in his young age.

10-35 The Minister with Guru ji

The Masands and the Mevras heard of the news floating around, regarding why the Minister of Raja Jai Singh had come.  Satguru ji’s mother, Mata Kishan Kaur ji, and the other family members were quite worried.  The heads of the Guru’s home got together with patience.  Some were called for a meeting and some came by themselves to Mata ji.  They all gathered at Mata ji’s place and bowed to her.  They sat down and said: “Sri Guru Har Krishan ji has been called to Delhi.  The corrupt Badshah is always ready for conflict.  He is corrupt.  He is tied to his Shariya and thinks he follows it with strictness.  He stops all the saints and asks them to show him their powers.  Whoever doesn’t show him their powers, they are told to convert to his version of Islam.  Satguru ji’s brother, Baba Ram Rai, is filled with ego and jealousy.  He is the one who instigated this plan.  He has joined the Badshah and planned many obstacles.  He is scheming something.  He sees his younger brother’s greatness and becomes jealous.  Sri Guru Har Krishan ji is young.  Nobody knows him in Delhi.  He has no support there.  His father is not with him.  He went to Sach Khand.  He was omnipotent and all-powerful in every way.  He was the giver of joy.  This is a very worrisome thing.  We wonder what will happen in Delhi.”

During this meeting, Satguru ji arrived to his mother.  He was in a child’s body but his patience was of a Brahmgyaani saint.  Everyone stood and folded their hands.  They bowed their heads with love.  The Jot of the Guru was inside Satguru ji.  The Sikhs had faith but the body they saw was of a child.  Guru ji sat in the middle on a stool.  The Sikhs gave him respect.  Guru ji was the idol of Gyaan, wisdom.  Sri Mata ji spoke casually: “what is in your heart?  Your brother has family jealousy.  He didn’t like your greatness.  He can’t tolerate your glory.  He influenced the Shah to call you to Delhi.  He wants you to meet the Badshah like him.  He has hatred in his heart.  It will be necessary to go, otherwise the conflict will grow.  If the people of Nauranga are returned empty-handed, the Shah will be angry.  He is egotistical of his power and strength.  He will send an army and oppose you.  If this spoils, then it won’t get better.  Everyone around him think bad about us as well.  This is difficult.  Who will help us and show us the way?  How can there be calm?”  The wise Satguru heard this and said: “I will not give my Darshan to the Malaich.  I am not going to meet him.  Pitha ji kept this vow.  I will keep the same vow.  Whatever Pithaji did, I will do the same.  I won’t go against this vow.  It is unmovable like the Sumer Mountain.  The words of the Satguru cannot be changed.  No matter how much storm there is, I can’t move from my vow.  The patient ones stay strict on their Dharma.”  Guru ji spoke brave words.  Everyone sitting there that heard Guru ji got scared.  They thought: “if he does what his father did, there will be trouble.”

Everyone folded their hands and said: “you are omnipotent, omniscient and the mine of virtues.  What is good for everyone, that is what you should do.  Your word should stay as well.  You should do what is good for you and your word.  The Sangat should not be in any trouble.  Your mother is in deep worry.  Please do what gives joy to all.  This is everyone’s wish.  If you don’t go to Delhi, the Badshah is very corrupt.  He will spoil it with you and do some damage.  He will send his army here.  If we fight against him, there will be a lot of damages.  How will we face him?  We can’t go in front of his army.  His control is over all of the lands.  He doesn’t leave any opposition in front of him.”  Guru ji heard the concerns of all and gave everyone hope.  He spoke with great patience: “Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji will do good.  He will come and complete all of the tasks.”  After saying this, Guru ji got up and went outside of the home.

Where the Sangat was waiting, Guru ji went there.  Jai Singh’s minister was called.  He was seated in the court with respect.  Guru ji said to the Minister, clearly: “I will not give my Darshan to the Emperor.  I will not see him.  What task does he have with me?  He sent you to take me to Delhi.  What is the reason for calling me?  My father’s vow was correct.  I can’t break his vow.  He kept his vow till the end.  I love him.  I will follow his way.  The Badshah wants to see the powers of the Guru.  My brother went there for that reason.  Whatever Nauranga wanted to see, my brother showed him all the miracles.  He showed the most impossible things.  My brother is still there.  He can show him some more.  He can show him what he wants.  That was his duty.  I am called for no reason.  Ask him what is the reason.”

The Minister heard Satguru ji’s words and was amazed.  He folded his hands with humility and said: “Prabhoo ji, listen: you don’t need anything because everyone asks from you and you give.  You are the treasure of powers.  You control the 3 Loks.  You are under the control of your lovers.  My king, Raja Jai Singh Svaee, has sent a request for you with the deepest love: “bless me with your Darshan.  Please give me your Darshan.  Come to Delhi for me and the Lakhs of Sangat.  See me as your servant.  Don’t think about anything else.  When you come to Delhi, the Sangat will come to see you.  Whatever you say is what will happen.  We will do as you say.  If you wish to meet the Shah, you can.  If you don’t want to meet him, then there’s nothing to worry about.”  The Raja has taken a vow to bring you to Delhi.  Only you can complete his vow.  Please come to the Raja’s home.  You can go where you wish to.  You don’t need to see the Shah.  He won’t be stubborn about meeting you.  When Baba Ram Rai was speaking to the Badshah my king heard the conversation.  The Badshah was calm and humble.  The Shah was understanding that you are young and soft.  He didn’t think it was right for you to be called to Delhi.  Your brother spoke a lot about you and convinced him.  The Badshah then wished to see you.  My Raja goes to the court everyday.  I go too.  Everyone praises you in the court.  They know you are the All-Powerful One.  They also know that you are young and still a child.  They know that you are great in virtues though.  If we see Nauranga’s stubbornness, my Raja will come into the middle to calm him down.  My Raja is under your command because he is born in the Hindu Dharma.  He follows his Dharma strictly.  He will never go against you.  If the Raja had seen the Emperor insisting on seeing you, Raja Jai Singh wouldn’t have agreed to this.  Raja Jai Singh’s heart is pure.  That’s why he sent me to you.  Your brother insisted that you come though.  He is doing this to make you come to Delhi.  If you go, everyone in Delhi will start to follow you that are following your brother right now.   If you don’t want to meet the Shah, stay at our place as long as you wish.  Meeting or not, that’s up to you.  If you go, Raja Jai Singh’s honour will remain intact.  The wishes of the faithful will be fulfilled.  In this way, the great Raja Jai Singh, requests you with deep love.  You can do as you wish.  Do what makes everyone happy.”
