10-28 Sri Guru Har Krishan ji sits on the Takhat

Taking on the eight body, the Guru sat on the Takhat.  The body was small, due to his young age of 5 years, but his heart was deep with Gyaan.  He gave the wisdom by saying the words filled with Amrit.  His form was beautiful and sweet.  He fulfilled the wishes of the Sikhs.  The Prabhoo’s form was calm.  The 8th incarnation was the new body.  It was like a king changing his clothes, leaving his old clothes behind and putting on a new set.  Sri Guru Har Krishan ji was radiant in the same way as the previous Gurus.  The Sangat loved him.  The Sangat saw him in the same way as Guru Nanak Dev ji and the other Gurus.  The Sangat had the same level of devotion and faith.  In the same way as the previous Gurus, Sri Guru Har Krishan ji had the same radiance of Brahmgyaan.  To wash away the sins of the Sikhs, Guru ji gave them his Darshan.  Guru ji took their pains away.  He was the great-grandson of Guru Hargobind Sahib ji.  He took on the weight of the Gurta Ghaddi and stood with great tolerance.  The senior Masands came to meet him, just as they came to meet Guru Har Rai ji.  They saw him in the same way as his father.  They did their Ardaas in the same way.  They bowed to his lotus feet, just as they did to the previous Gurus.  They brought a lot of gifts and had their wishes fulfilled.  Everyone had their wishes fulfilled.  They came with devotion in their hearts.  Guru ji blessed his Sikhs by giving them the wisdom of Brahmgyaan.  He revealed the secrets to them and erased their doubts (of thinking they are the body instead of the Aatma).  He took their pains and gave the Sikhs what they wished for.  He made the Sikhs fall in love with the Satnam.  He destroyed their vices and desires all at once.  He gave them patience, Dharam and compassion.  Kavi Santokh Singh ji says: “contentment, compassion, love, forgiveness, benevolence and everything good was in his heart.  He illuminated the radiance of Sikhi into the hearts of the Sikhs, easily.”  He saw the Sikhs as his own and destroyed the 3 illnesses.  He gave the Sikhs Gyaan without them having to do any Tapp.  The Sikhs came from far away lands, bringing gifts.  They would do his Darshan and have their problems destroyed.  Guru ji’s praises spread far and wide.  His body was of a little boy’s but his radiance was very bright.  He could destroy pain with his sight.  The land, ocean and islands, everyone had faith in him.  They came miles on end to do his Darshan.  The Sangat was always crowded on a daily basis.  Keertan and Langar were continuous.  The Shabad and Bhagti was in abundance.  The Sikhs listened with love.  Guru ji was known in every home.  Many groups of Sikhs came.  The Sikhs praised Guru ji and had their pains washed away.  They were happy to see Guru ji.  Jewellery, gems, golden hoops, golden bracelets, pearl necklaces, Dastaar with Kalgi and Jigha; Guru ji wore these and sat on the Throne.  What shined through everything was his radiance of Brahmgyaan from his heart.  It was a unique radiance, never seen before.  It shined in the whole world.  The unlimited power could be seen, living inside his small body.  He was the giver of Gyaan and bliss.  He gave this to all.  He was supreme in every way.  The whole world felt his power and knew of his greatness.  Every caste felt his radiance.

After some time, as the younger son of Guru Har Rai ji was given the Gurta Ghaddi, the elder son, Baba Ram Rai got the news.  Baba Ram Rai ji had a lot of regret in his mind and was upset.  He thought to himself: “look at this.  I got the greatness first.  He put his hand on my hand and gave me many powers.  He made me omnipotent with his love.  He blessed me with great powers.  My words would become true, he said.  He sent me with joy.  A lot of Sikhs were sent with me and a lot joined later on.  I came to the Shah to increase the praise of the Guru.  I completed many difficult tasks.  I kept the peace here.  The Shah gave me a lot of wealth and joy.  I showed my great powers and spread the traditions of Sikhi.  Thousands became Sikhs by my preaching.  I spread the Sikhi in many cities.”

From the family of Bhai Behlo ji, Bhai Gurdas ji folded his hands and said: “why are you upset, oh elder son of the Guru?  The Guru himself gave you greatness.  You have a lot of Sikhs and wealth.  You have many servants.  The Shah listens to you.  A lot of money comes to you.  There is no shortage.  What else do you want other than this?  Lakhs bow to you and have their wishes fulfilled.  The master of the land, Nauranga, bows his head to you.  You meet him as you please.  He obeys you.  You go to his court and sit on the highest seat.  The Shah respects you and gives you greatness.  You speak to the Shah everyday.  You are respected like Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib ji was respected by Jahangir.  Guru ji was seated higher among the others.  You have no shortages.  The Shah gives you unique things that nobody else has.  You stay in your home and he sends you his messengers.  We can’t count your wealth.  You receive 13,000 Rajitpuns everyday from the Shah for Langar and feed for the horses.  You have no shortage.  The Shah keeps you happy.  The Sikh Sangat in the world, they know that Sri Guru Har Krishan ji was given the Ghaddi during Guru Har Rai ji’s time.  They also know that you were given powers by your father.  The Sangat knows you.  Think about this: you came here by your father’s command.  What were you when you first came and look what you have accomplished till now.  You have increased your wealth and following since then.”

The elder son of Guru Har Rai ji heard the words of hope but was not happy.  He was wilted and worried.   He said: “listen Gurdas, what you say is true but truly, my heart still burns.  Pitha Guru ji sent me here himself, seeing me as eligible.  If I didn’t come here, the Shah was going to be angry like a big enemy.  He would have sent a big army because he is egotistical.  He spoiled it with many Peers and Fakirs.  He debates and is jealous.  He wasn’t going to fear anyone.  He would have arrested anyone.  He gives pain to saints.  I controlled him.  If he would have sent an army to Kiratpur, what could have been done then?  Sri Guru ji was determined not to meet the Malaich.  He didn’t want to come.  He wasn’t going to give his Darshan or even talk to him.  The Shah rules within 6,000 km.  He has 2,200,000 soldiers ready to fight.  He is powerful and intoxicated by his own ego.  He has 10,000 canons.  When he attacks with red eyes, he destroys.  He has 50,000 swivel canons.  His canons make the earth shake.  Who would have dealt with him?  Who would have fought him?  The whole country fears him.  The Rajput kings are afraid of him.  His command spreads to the whole world.  He finds faults and kicks people out.  He is stubborn and fights.  He does not fear any Guru or Peer.  When Shah Jahan was the Shah, a conflict with Guru Hargobind Sahib ji started.  Guru ji fought him with weapons.  The Mughals came to Amritsar, where a great battle happened.  Guru ji was fearless and victorious in that battle.  Guru ji then went to the Jungle Desh and had a battle because of 2 horses.  In Sri Kartarpur, Guru ji killed many, fighting Painday Khan.  Shah Jahan ignored the matter and backed off, as if accepted his defeat.  Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib ji was a great and powerful warrior.  He was huge and wide.  He was strong.  His army was huge.  He had a lot of motivation to fight.  He made enemies and destroyed them.  This Shah is much bigger than Shah Jahan whose army is really big.  He doesn’t fear Peers or Fakirs.  Whoever apposes him, he kills them.  He is stubborn and egotistical.  He fights with anyone he wishes to.  He doesn’t back off.  It’s not good to be his enemy.  If I hadn’t have come here, how else would the Shah calmed down?  I calmed many other tensions by coming here.  Guru ji lived in Kiratpur peacefully.  I made the Shah my Sikh servant.  I gathered a lot of wealth, which was sent by the Shah.  The Shah had love for Guru ji then.  I was deserving in every way.  Guru Pitha ji got angry at me and renounced me.  What qualities did he see in his younger son, whom he gave the greatness to in front of the Sangat?  He gave him the Gurta Ghaddi by standing up himself and making the Sikhs bow to his feet.  He made all the Masands and Sikhs place gifts and money in front of him.  He didn’t even remember me, like I was some sort of enemy.  Thinking about this makes me upset.  I have heard with my own ears from many Sikhs that a lot of Sangat comes to Kiratpur to see the new Guru.  Kabul and Kashmir are beautiful places.  The Masands from those and other places eagerly come, bringing many Sikhs with them.  They bring a lot of gifts and money.  There’s always a crowd in Kiratpur.  They sing my brother’s praises.  He is more radiant than I am now.  His glory has grown further.  Hearing this, I am not calm.  Day and night, my worry grows.  I fear that all the Sikhs may leave me.  People follow others and copy them.  That is how their nature is.  I hope they don’t start worshiping my brother instead of me.  I hope my servants don’t leave me to go there.”  Baba Ram Rai was jealous of his younger brother.  He thought of many things and made his worries grow.

10-29 The Masands Speak to Sri Ram Rai

Listening to the son of Sri Guru Har Rai ji, Bhai Gurdas ji and the other Masands spoke to him: “why are you upset and worried in your heart?  Your worry is eating you away.  Be alert and enjoy the joy that you have.  You have everything.  Make your glory grow.  The Sikhs and servants are devoted to you.  They will always come to you.  They bow to your feet and present you gifts.  They give you the gifts of the Guru’s home.  You are respected as the Guru among the Sikhs and the Masands.  Send your Masands to far away lands and preach Sikhi.  Make Sikhi grow.  They will preach about you being the real Guru.  They will preach on your behalf.  You are the eldest son of the Guru.  The Sangat and the Shah bow to your feet.  You are complete with all of the powers.  The Jot illuminates in you.  They will preach this.  You have shown your powers many times.  Our Masands will say this.  The master of Delhi and the people of Delhi follow you.  People see your powers and become amazed.  You did the most impossible things.  Some know about this and some don’t.  The people of far away lands need to know this.  We won’t let the faith go down.  We will bring people to you and make them bow.  Do what we say.  Sri Guru Har Krishan ji is your brother.  The Sodhis other than him are also famous.  There are many of them.  Make the Sangat stop going to all of them.  Dheermal is your Chacha but don’t let your Sangat go there either.  The Sikh Sangat is our farm field.  We plough the field and they earn money and bring it to us.  Make our Sangat stop going anywhere else.  Tell them: “the Sodhis are apposed to us.”  Preach this.  Our Sangat will grow.  They won’t go anywhere else.  They will only come to do the Pooja of your feet.  The Sangat that is already with us, they won’t go.  The new Sangat will gather.  The Sangat will grow in this way.  They will bring a lot of money to us.  We will tell them that: Guru Ram Rai is the Guru now.  This should be preached.  Sri Guru Har Rai ji has gone to Sach Khand and left Baba Ram Rai ji as the Guru.  The people of lower castes, Jheevars, Kumhaars, Chumaars and others, give them Sikhi.  They will all come to you and praise you.  In this way, we can grow in the world.  You will be the Guru.  Many gifts will come to you.  Only the eldest son sits on the Ghaddi and the younger one follows him.  We will tell everyone this.  They will all see you as the Satguru.  Only a few Sikhs will be left who will be stubborn and go to your brother.  There’s nothing concerning about this.  He is the son of the Guru and he is still your brother. Sri Guru Ramdas ji had 3 sons but only 1 of them took the Ghaddi.  Guru Arjan Dev ji was worshipped.  Many bowed to him.  Baba Mahadev ji and Baba Prithi Chand ji were worshiped by their own followings.  The Sikhs and Servants their father gave them, they stayed with them.  They kept giving them gifts.  Then the son of the Satguru, Baba Gurditta ji, he had 2 sons.  One was your father and the other was Dheermal.  The Gurta should have been given to the elder but the younger was worshipped.  Some Sangat stayed in Kartarpur with Dheermal and worshiped him.  He wanted the Gurta but how can one get it without destiny?  You have a younger brother.  Leave the few Sangat with him.  Don’t be hurt seeing him.  Your mothers are all there.  That is your home too.  You can send some money to him too.  You should take care of everyone including your brother.  Be on good terms with your younger brother.”

Baba Ram Rai heard this.  He half-heartedly accepted the words.  He said to them: “I can’t meet him now.  We have a conflict.  Satguru Pitha ji has said the words.  Everyone heard them.  My brother won’t want to meet me either.  He will follow Pitha ji’s words.  He will hate me.  Pithaji made everyone worship him.  People have faith in my father’s words.  They will be faithful to my brother.  We can send our Masands to other lands and have them preach our ways.  Give Dastaars to new Masands to preach our ways.  Give as much money as they need.  They should preach to the Sangat and praise our institution.  Make preparations for everyone to come here.  The Masands should bring the people here.  Make sure nobody goes to Sri Guru Har Krishan ji.  The one who goes there, excommunicate them.  Tell the Masands to say this.  They should tell the Sikhs to not go to the other Sodhis either.  Tell young and old this.  They shouldn’t go to anyone else who calls themselves Guru.  Our Sangat should be separate.  Don’t mix with the other Bedis, Trehans or Bhallas.  Degh should only come to us.”

Many Masands were then sent around to other lands after giving them Dastaars and gifts.  They were given respect, money and wealth.  Dastaars were tied to their heads.  Hukamnamas were written and sent with them.  The Masands were sent to different regions.  Their names were written in the Hukamnamas: “this is our Masand.  Give him your Dasvand.  If you listen to what he says, you will be blessed.  Obey his commands.  Come with him to see the Guru.  The money given to them will come to the Guru.  The Guru will be happy with you.  Your wishes will be fulfilled.  Recite the Shabads and make your life a success.  Be steadfast in your Dharma.”  These Hukamnamas were sent to different regions.

The Masands went to different places and began to collect the Dasvand of the Sikhs.  They became slanderers of the true Guru and preached their own following.  The Masands slandered the true Guru and confused everyone to follow them.  They began to lie and became corrupt.  They collected money in any way they could.  They were greedy.  The Sangat was innocent and fooled to come to them.  They wouldn’t let the Sangat go to Guru Har Krishan Sahib ji.  A lot of money came from the Sangat.  Some money would come to Baba Ram Rai but most was kept with the Masands.  The Masands became rich from the Sangat’s money.  They became egotistical by gaining wealth.  They were without faith and devotion.  They would say: “it is up to us to decide who will be the next Guru.  We can make anyone the Guru.  The Sangat will listen to us.  We decide whose Pooja will be done.  The Sangat is with us.  We can take them to who we want to.  When we shake our Chola and make a Guru fall out of it.  The Guru that listens to us will be the one whose Pooja will be done.  Otherwise we will go to another place.  We can lower or increase the glory of any Guru.”  In this way, the foolish Masands became egotistical.  They started to walk the wrong path.  They began to drink alcohol and visit prostitutes.  They were ruined in big sins.  They would speak harshly to the poor Sikhs and give them pain by scolding them.  They would say: “oh damned by the Guru, you don’t give your Dasvands!  You raise your families instead.  Write a statement saying “I am not a Sikh.”  They would scare the Sikhs and take their money with force.  The Sikhs would have to sell their belongings in their homes to pay the Dasvand.  The Masands used their strength to bother them.  They made the Sikhs even more poor.  The Sikhs would go to Baba Ram Rai and complain: “they give us pain.”  Baba Ram Rai would be afraid of the Masands and not say anything to them.  He would speak to the Sikhs with sweet words and deflect the situation.

In this way, the Sangat was divided by the Masands.  By many ways, they tried to collect all of the power.  Baba Ram Rai would give greatness to the Masands and make sure they were still on his side.  He made great efforts to keep everyone in his following.  He gave a lot of Siropas and wealth to them.  He gave them donations and a lot of respect.  He didn’t get mad at the Masands who bothered the Sikhs.  The way of the Guru’s home was in chaos.  The Masands were egotistical.  Who else besides Guru Gobind Singh ji could have killed them and brought order?

10-30 The Radiance of Sri Guru Har Krishan ji/ The Jealousy of Ram Rai

Sri Guru Har Krishan Sahib ji’s radiance was great.  The whole world praised him.  Baba Ram Rai ji heard this everyday: “he is young but really patient.  He has many powers.”  A lot of Sangat came everyday and brought gifts for Guru ji.  They did his Darshan and had their wishes fulfilled.  Some received the gift of Vivek – to be able to see the infinite, separate from the diminishing world.  Guru ji’s praise spread to every village and every home.  Whoever came to Guru ji, their pain was all gone.  The Sangat came and sang the Guru’s praises.  Baba Ram Rai would hear this and get upset.  This would hurt him.  He couldn’t tolerate his younger brother’s greatness.  He was jealous.  His heart would burn.  The more he would hear Guru ji’s praises, the more he would be in pain.  There was nothing he could do, as the Guru is the supreme.  Baba Ram Rai kept thinking: “how can I become the Guru?”  He would sit with the Sikhs, Masands and Mevras and be worried.  He would tell his closest people what he thought: “I have been waiting to get the Gurta Ghaddi.  Without any right, my younger brother got it.  I came to the Shah in Delhi.  Nobody else dared to come here.  Pitha ji sent me here in front of everyone to the Badshah whose name is fearful to everyone.  Their hearts trembled hearing his name.  With the strength of my wisdom, I showed many miracles.  I showed my powers.  I spoke to the Badshah with cleverness.  I made good relations with the Shah.  Where the Turks kept debating about everything, I broke their pride.  I kept good relations with Nauranga.  I sat in the court with respect in a high seat.  I keep the Badshah in my control.  I didn’t let the Badshah spoil.  I was sent to Delhi so Pithaji could be at peace at home.  Everyone was worry-free because of this.  When it was time to give the greatness, Pitha ji renounced me out of anger.  Sri Har Krishan ji took everything.  Whatever Pithaji had, was given to him along with the Gurta Ghaddi.  He got the supreme status.  Nothing can be done now.  There is one thought I have that may work.  I will do that.  I won’t stop.  All of you people sitting with me should listen: I will speak to Aurangzeb in a way that his relation with my brother would become sour.  I will tell the Shah that my brother has more powers.  I will praise my brother and make him look bigger.  I will tell him to call my brother to see miracles.  I will say: “he will show you more powers and fix your problems.  He can do whatever you want.  He lives in your country.  Send someone to call him here.”  I will say this to the Shah.  I will tell him to send a messenger.  When my brother will come here, I will tell the Shah to ask for miracles.  I will cause a problem between them.  The Shah will become the Guru’s enemy because my brother won’t show his powers.  His reputation will be ruined in this way.  He will look bad.  His immaturity will be seen.  I will look bigger.  Nobody will have faith in him then.  Nobody will give him any money or gifts.  Everyone will have faith in me.  My brother will come to me as well.  I won’t let the Badshah be on good terms with my brother.  The Turks with the Shah don’t like the Guru anyways.  I will speak to the Badshah.  If my brother comes, I will do this.  If he doesn’t come to Delhi and keeps the same stand as my father; doesn’t come to Delhi on the Shah’s invitation; turns the messengers back; then it is still good for me.  My wish will be fulfilled.  If my brother doesn’t come, the Shah will get angry.  He may send his army to Kiratpur.  How will they fight such a great army?  The master of Delhi is Jorawar (strong).  There won’t be any other solution to this.  My brother will have to go to Jungle Desh, leaving Kiratpur, which was established by my elders.  Just as I am not living there and staying in Delhi, my brother will have to leave as well.  He will look bad.  I will look great.  My brother’s praises will get watered-down.  My glory will grow.  I am good with Nauranga due to my powers.  Both scenarios are advantageous for me.  I will show my younger brother as immature.”  Baba Ram Rai said this to his Masands and Mevras.

The Masands all respected Baba Ram Rai’s words.  Bhai Gurdas (the descendant of Bhai Behlo ji) said: “who is wiser than you?  You are omnipotent.  Loss, gain, praise or slander; good or bad, that’s all there is.  The greatness of the Guru’s home, you know them all.  It is quite evident in the world.  Whatever you think is good, that is what we want.  We are all boarded on your ship.  Our gain and loss are with you.  Both of you brothers are praised in the world.  Many people follow you both.  Your glory is spread in the world.  It is white and bright like the Himalayan Mountain.  If the enmity between you grows, the glory will go less then.  Who knows what will happen then?  It seems like it’s heading in that direction.  We don’t want the Gurta Ghaddi to leave your home.  The other Sodhis want it.  They are trying really hard to get the Gurta Ghaddi.  They are fighting with each other.  The anger between you two will be bad.  The Gurta will go away.  The Badshah is always ready to fight.  If something goes wrong, we hope you don’t get blamed for it.  You should do what does not stain your reputation.  If Nauranga causes a problem, that will be insulting for the place of your father and elders in Kiratpur.  The Turks will start doing bad things if you instigate them.  It will be out of your hands then.  If someone gives a stick to a strong elephant in its trunk and then wish to take the stick away, that will be difficult.  Aurangzeb is a strong elephant.  Don’t give him the idea to attack Kiratpur.  We won’t be able to solve this.  Don’t carry out such a plan.  Nauranga wants to destroy Sikhi.  You will give him an excuse to.  This will be bad for us.  We want the best for you and that’s why I am saying this to you.  Guru ji sent us with you so we will always be with you.”

Baba Ram Rai heard this and said: “what you are thinking, that won’t happen.  Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji will do good.  I won’t let the conflict grow so deep.  I will just motivate Nauranga to call Guru ji to Delhi.  Just like I left home, I will have Sri Har Krishan ji come here.  He can come to Delhi and speak to the Turks.  He should make an effort too.  Otherwise, he should leave Kiratpur.  I will do one or the other.  My wish will be fulfilled then.  You are wise.  Think about this.  If I don’t do this, what honour do I have then?  It will be useless to be so powerful then.  If my brother is worry-free, how can that be?  Everyone knows I deserved the Gurta Ghaddi.  Sri Har Krishan ji took the Ghaddi.  Both of us brothers are against each other.  How can I stay quiet?  My heart burns.”  In this way, Baba Ram Rai was determined to carry out his plan.  He wanted his brother to come to the Badshah.  Kavi Santokh Singh ji says: “listen to the Katha ahead.”
