10-26 Ghaalav’s Offering/ Raja Jujaati
The son of Vinta spoke to Ghaalav: “the way the 600 horses were given, listen ahead. There was a powerful king named Ghandi. Vishvamittar was his son. Ghandi had a wise and pretty daughter. The son of Bhrigu, Rishi Richeek, went to Ghandi and said: “oh king, listen to my words, give your daughter to me. I will take her as my wife. I will have a son from her. This is my wish. Let go of your cleverness and complete my wish. You are the follower of Dharma.” Ghandi heard this and became worried. He thought to himself: “my daughter is young and the Munni is old. How can this be a couple? If I don’t give him my daughter, I fear his anger. If I go ahead with this, I will burn in worry. What should I do?” He thought hard for how this problem can go away. He then spoke after thinking: “listen Tapasvi: with black ears and white bodies, bring me 800 horses like this. You can then take my daughter. First give me horses, as such.” Richeek Munni heard this and went to Varun Dev.
Richeek said to Varun: “I need white horses with black ears. I need 800 of them. My task is not completed without this, oh Devata of the water.” Varun saw the Munni’s body, red like fire. His radiance was like the sun. He thought about 800 horses and gave them to the Munni. They were nicely decorated.
Richeek took the 800 horses and went back to Ghandi. He said: “take the horses and give me your daughter.” Ghandi took the horses and married the girl to the Munni. In this way, the 800 horses came to earth. They were given in exchange for the daughter. 200 have died. 600 remain. Ghaalav, you have the 600 now. The 200 that you didn’t get, give the girl to your Guru. Let go of any other thoughts. Let’s take the girl.” Hearing Garud’s words, Ghaalav went back to Vishvamittar.
Ghaalav bowed to his Guru and gave the daughter of Jujaati to his Guru along with 600 horses with white bodies. Vishvamittar made the girl his wife and had a son from her. The son’s name was “Arisht” (or Ashtaka). The daughter of Jujaati had a total of 4 sons who were really powerful and great donors. The 4 sons came to Naeemkhaar Teerath in Ayodhya to do Yagnas. They did many types of Yagnas. Their grandfather was Jujaati who followed the Dharam. He was great with his Karma. He went to Heaven when he died but displayed his ego there. He said: “there is no one like me. I did many Yagnas and gave a lot of donations. No other Raja was able to do this.” In this way Jujaati was filled with ego. The people of Heaven got angry with him. They condemned his behaviour and said: “may you fall to a lowly place. You don’t deserve to live here. The egotistical cannot stay here. The one who is trapped in lust and anger cannot stay here.” A messenger then came from Inder to Jujaati. The messenger said: “the King of the Devatas says: “leave from here and fall down.” Jujaati heard this and got worried. The garland of flowers from his neck wilted because of his ego. His Karma burned. He became depressed in an ocean of worry. He became humble and said to the messenger: “please do this if you have decided, send me to the great beings who are Satsangis and Sadhoos. The ones who have no ego, the ones who have won their minds and Indriyas; the ones who speak the truth; send me to them. Do this favour for me.” The messenger heard this and sent Jujaati to Naeemkhaar. As Jujaati fell to Naeemkhaar, the 4 grandsons saw him. They saw his as upset. They knew that there was no one to protect him. He was upset. The 4 grandsons got together and wanted to help their grandfather. They all took parts of their good Karma and gifted their grandfather. They told him: “go back to Svarag.” Jujaati became good again. He was received in heaven with respect. He lived there in joy and peace.
In this way, Ghaalav gave the offering to his Guru and made him happy by doing his Seva. Ghaalav found the rare horses that were impossible to find. He made his life a success.” The Satguru’s glory is great. The Sikhs understand this, they know the glory and make the Guru happy. They get the compassion of their Guru and call him “Dhan.” There is no better friend than the Guru who can destroy the pains of many births. Keeping truth and content, one should serve the Guru without ego. By doing the Guru’s Seva, one makes their body a success. One gets the highest status. The Guru is the highest. The Guru gives the Brahm Vidya. In all 4 yugas, this is known. The Guru is the one that gives the knowledge of Brahm. He gives the ultimate bliss. Whoever does the Seva of the Guru and makes him happy, they are rewarded as though they have done all the Japps and Tapps. The ones who tolerate the pain of thousands of years, like doing Tapp in cold or heat; by keeping their arms raised in the air and standing on one foot; keeping the Chandrayan fast; how many types can we count? Giving donations of gold, doing yagnas, donating land, bathing at Teeraths, donating elephants and horses, nothing is compared to the Seva of the Guru. You can look around the whole world, ego and desires threw Jujaati out of heaven. Anger and lust destroy your karma; so don’t even let them come into your heart by accident. Do the Bhagti of Satnam with humility. Do the Seva of the Guru with eagerness. Always be ready for Seva. The Prabhoo will be happy and protect you. The pain of being born and dying will be gone. Uttanka’s task was fulfilled. By saying and hearing, the big Daint was killed. The whole world was in peace. The Daint’s tyranny was gone.” In this way Guru Har Rai Sahib ji said the Katha of Satsang.
10-27 Sri Har Krishan ji is given the Guru Ghaddi/ Sri Guru Har Rai ji goes to Sach Khand
From the family of Baba Bhudda ji, his descendent, Baba Jhanda ji, who was filled with Gyaan, he and his son, Baba Gurditta ji, would listen to Katha and be in bliss. The rich Masands of many lands gathered in the court of Guru ji. They were told to come by Hukamnamas. They all came. Many Sikhs came with the Masands as part of their Sangats. They had the deep desire to do the Darshan of Guru ji. They heard the words of Guru ji. They ingrained the words in their hearts and were in bliss. The ones who were fortunate with good karma, they were drenched in the love of the Guru. There was a great crowd in Kiratpur. A lot of Langar was made two times a day. Many types of delicacies were made. Everyone ate with delight. They ate as much as they wished. The Sangat stayed for many days and immersed into the love of the Guru. Wherever else there were Masands, they came with their Sangats. There were tents all over Kiratpur. Guru ji gave his Darshan once a day by which the Sikhs were blessed. Guru ji gave wisdom to the Sikhs. The Sikhs shouted out Jaikaras. They would all say: “Vaho, Vaho!” The Sikhs wondered: “what is Guru ji’s wish? We wonder why he has called us. Why did he gather the whole Sangat? What will he say? What will he do?” They all spoke to each other about this.
Sri Satguru Har Rai ji wanted to give the Gurta Ghaddi to the next Guru. He renounced his eldest son. He didn’t see him as deserving to sit on the throne. Guru ji’s body’s end time was near. He was only 31 years old. He wanted to give the highest status to his younger son. Guru ji was looking for one who was forgiving, patient, fearless, deep, true, content, calm, and tolerant of the most intolerant things. He should always be still, the Aatam Gyaani and not wish to show his powers. He should be able to show his powers when he wished to. Guru ji saw all these qualities in his youngest son, Sri Har Krishan ji. He was able to take the weight of the Gurta Ghaddi. His patience was deeper than the earth’s. He was patient and sweet-natured. His words were sweet. His face was blooming like the lotus. He was complete. Nobody else was greater than him. He did the Simran of Satnam or listened to it. He was able to kill the pains of others like a lion killing the deer. His thought was able to do this. Guru Har Rai ji wanted his younger son to sit on the Takhat.
Guru ji said to his closest Sikhs: “call the Bedis, Trehans, Bhallas, Sodhis and the other wise Brahmgyaani Sikhs. The ones who are like swans; call the family of Baba Bhudda ji. Call the Sangat. Call the Masands of the Sangat. Tell them all to do the Darshan in the court. Go to their Dheras and tell them to come and do the Darshan of the Guru.” Seeing the wish of Guru ji, the Sikhs took the messages to the Dheras. The Sangat from many lands, all heard the message and became eager to go and see Guru ji. The warriors came to Guru ji wearing beautiful cholas and weapons. The senior Masands from all the lands came with their great Sangats. They all brought many types of gifts. They all sat around Guru ji in the court. They bowed and did the Darshan of Guru ji. They placed their gifts in front. Many types of gifts came. The Mevras stood and did the Ardaas. The Sikhs sat in the Divaan. The crowd gathered. The warriors sat on the right.
Satguru ji called for a coconut. He had his younger son sit in the middle. He told the Chaurbardaar: “waive the Chaur over his head now.” Everyone saw this. Guru Har Rai ji stood up and was going to give the Gurta Ghaddi to his son. He did 3 Parkarmas around Sri Har Krishan ji and bowed to him while placing the coconut before him. Guru ji then commanded everyone: “the Gurta of the universe now belongs to him. Everyone get up and place your offerings in front of the new Guru. See him as the same as me and bow to him. He is now the Master of this world and the other dimensions. Whoever has the love and devotion towards him, they will receive many rewards. He is omnipotent and complete in every way. He can create and destroy.” The many Masands got up and bowed to Sri Guru Har Krishan Sahib ji. They placed their gifts to his feet and shouted Jaikaras. There was a great celebration for the installation of the 8th Guru. Everyone bowed to Guru Har Krishan Sahib ji. Chaurs were waived in every direction over his head. The conches were blown. Many conches sounded at the same time. Bells were rung. The Nagaras sounded. Other instruments were played. The beggars were given donations. The Rababis sang Shabads in Raag. Whoever heard the Shabads, their sins were washed away. Many celebrations started in Kiratpur. A lot of Karah Prashaad was brought and distributed to all, near and far.
Sri Guru Har Krishan ji was seated on the Takhat. Everyone congratulated each other. The flags unfurled in the air and shined bright. The rifles were fired in salutations, all at once. The army played the Nagaras for their new Commander. The warriors shouted Jaikaras. In this way, the youngest son was given the Gurta Ghaddi. A lot of celebrations happened. The elder son was renounced. The Sangat was aware of this.
The next day, the patient Satguru got ready to leave his body. He was inside his home, Gurduara Sees Mahal. Guru ji had the home cleaned. Fragrances and decorations were done. The Shabads were sung in high pitches. The Sangat came to Guru ji and did their Ardaas. The recitation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji was happening in the tunes that the Vedas were recited in. The people praised Guru ji: “he came to save the world. He came by his own will. If we do his Darshan in our dreams, our sins are washed away. The ones who see him in reality, why wouldn’t their sins be washed away? Who can sing his glory? He gives bliss to all. A cloud comes into formation to give water to the world. It makes the salty water of the ocean sweet and gives it to the world. They are generous to the world. The thirst and heat are erased. One is given life like this. Seeing the people of the world as anxious, burning in their desires and pain, Guru ji came to relieve them. The Jeev keeps falling into temptations and go to Hell. Guru ji casted his compassion onto the people. That’s why he took on a human body. He gave bliss to millions. He blessed them. Where will we find such a benevolent Guru? The Devatas can’t compare themselves to him. Guru ji is the provider for all. He destroys the pain which were mixed in the pleasures. He is without joy, pain, sorrow, attachment or hate. He is like the lotus which is never wet. He has no Hamta (ego) or Mamta (attachment). He has no pride, greed, lust or anger. He is always in one state, pure. He is the Sat, Chetan and Anand form. Let’s go and meet him. Fold your hands and bow to his feet.” The Sikhs thought of Guru ji’s glory. They came to him doing Keertan. Sri Satguru Har Rai ji, the complete Guru, gave his Darshan and prepared to leave his body. He laid on a Kusha Asan. He sat on it casually. His face was really radiant. Double than usual. He was filled with bliss. His eyes were gleaming. He took the worries of his Sikhs away with his sight. His 8 wives all came to do his Darshan. They bowed to his feet and obeyed his command. Guru ji put a beautiful sheet on top of his body and collected his focus. He connected to the Aatma bliss. It was like water going into water. He became one with Guru Har Krishan Sahib ji to stay with him in his body. He left his own body. At that time, everyone said: “Dhan Guru ji!” Whoever took advantage of this sight, they were blessed.
The traditions were then carried out. Guru Har Rai Sahib ji’s body was bathed. The Sangat gathered to do this. A platform was made on which Guru ji’s body was placed. The Sikhs sang Shabads and took Guru ji’s body to the pyre for cremation. This is where Gurduara Pataalpuri Sahib is. The pyre was made of sandalwood. Guru ji’s body disappeared at that time to the Sangat’s amazement. The pyre caught fire afterwards. The wood burned to ashes but when the Sangat came to collect the Phull (bones and ashes) there was no sign of any. Sri Guru Har Rai ji made his body disappear. The people said: “Sri Guru Har Rai ji, you give everyone joy. Where did you disappear to? What play is this that you played?” The Sikhs, warriors and the Sangat began to cry. They thought of Guru ji and were drenched in love. They all then collected their patience and looked towards Guru Har Krishan Sahib ji. They realised that Guru Har Rai ji was inside Guru Har Krishan Sahib ji now.
The Sangat was then happy to be with Guru Har Krishan Sahib ji in the same way as they were with Guru Har Rai ji. The Ardaas was done in the same way. The Keertan was done in the same way. Guru Har Krishan ji sat on the Gurta Ghaddi in the same way as his father did. He looked radiant. Many types of joys spread from the court. Sri Guru Har Krishan ji was the Guru of the Universe now. He was known throughout the land. This Takhat was the highest in the universe. Doing his Darshan would make pain run away. The Sodhis that were there, they tried to influence Guru ji, seeing his body as a young child’s. They all just looked like stars among the moon, with Guru Har Krishan Sahib ji illuminating brightly, like the moon.
