1-66 Bhai Paro ji goes to Sach Khand/ Mohri ji is shown 1 Lakh Taka
One day, Satguru Amardas ji, the giver of peace, called Bhai Paro ji to him. Bhai Paro ji was the top Brahmgyaani who had the “Param Hans” status. It was he, who asked Guru ji to start a Jor mela once a year, namely the “Vaisakhi” mela. Bhai Paro ji’s state could not be described. The Param Hans can separate the conscious and unconscious. If milk and water are together, the hans (swan) can separate the milk and water. This is how the Param Hans separates the body and the Aatma. He stayed in the Turiya state all the time, also known as the fourth state. The three states are Jaagrat (awake- 42 Indriyas are active), Swapna (dream) and Sakopat (deep sleep). There are 14 actions with physical components (i.e. Eyes, hands, ears). There are 14 energies behind these physical components that perceive the experience and the 14 perceptive states that are experienced. The Turiya is above all 42.
Guru ji called Bhai Paro ji to the Chabarra and said: “I have had a thought in my mind: I wish to give you the throne of Guru Nanak Dev ji and make you the next Guru. You are the Param Hans and are one with me. This is the highest state, which cannot be described by the Vedas or Shaasters. I want to give you the throne of the Guru. Go and bless the world. Make them do Simran and preach the way of Sikhi. Spread Bhagti, as this is the blessing of Guru Nanak Dev ji.” Bhai Paro ji folded his hands and bowed his head to Guru ji’s feet. His head was on Guru ji’s feet. He spoke with fear and humility: “Guru ji, I would like Sikhi. I am in love with Sikhi. Only the Satguru can sit on the Guru’s throne. I would like your divine sight and stay a Gursikh.” Bhai Paro grabbed Guru ji’s feet and continued: “please forgive me as I am returning your command.” Guru ji heard Bhai Paro’s request and said: “if you wish to earn Sikhi then renounce your body without delay. Go to your home and leave your body. Your love will be accepted in the Guru’s feet. Your soul will immerge into me. We will be one form. Your soul will live in my body and we will both go into a new body as the new Guru. We have a lot of tasks to do for the wellness of the Sikhs. We need to save the saints and destroy the sinners.” Bhai Paro heard Guru ji’s command and bowed to Guru ji. He was happy in his heart. He went back to his village of Dhulla. He gathered the Brahmgyaanis of his village and told them what his plans were. He went to his home and gave away all his items in his home to people who needed them. He kept three things: his horse, some clothing material and money. He told the Sangat to send these three things to Guru ji. In this way, Bhai Paro ji left his body; just as an elephant wearing a garland of flowers can easily take if off by breaking it, Bhai Paro ji left his body without any difficulty. The people of the village cremated his body and made a place in his remembrance. (Bhai Paro ji’s grandson will be Baba Narayan Das ji, whose daughter will be Mata Damodri ji, the wife of Guru Hargobind Sahib ji) Bhai Paro ji’s soul immerged into Guru Amardas ji.
One person from the village Dhulla came to Guru Amardas ji and told him about Bhai Paro ji departing to Sach Khand: “he loved all the other Sikhs and everyone loved him. They all remember his qualities. He was gentle and pure. There was no one else like him. He was a warrior who won all the enemies. He was giving like a great tree and had a lot of patience.” Satguru ji said to the Sikh from Dhulla: “he has become one with the ocean of bliss. Don’t mourn for people like him, as he was connected to the Brahm Gyaan. The people who waste their life in fulfilling their worldly desires and lose money in gambling; never listened to the Guru’s word; did not do Simran of Satnam in the Satsang; are not engaged in the worship of the Guru, they deserved to be mourned.” Guru ji consoled the Sikh.
Guru ji, the remover of obstacles, called for his younger son, Baba Mohri ji. Guru ji’s son came and bowed to his father, whom he worshipped and wanted to impress. Guru ji saw his son standing. He had 6 other Sikhs go with Baba Mohri and instructed them: “My beloved Bhai Paro “Param Hans” has left his body. He was very patient and left his body with ease. Go to Dhulla village and make sure everyone is cheered up.” Baba Mohri ji got ready and mounted his horse, right away. 6 other Sikhs, along with some servants, all headed towards Dhulla. They soon reached the village and went to Bhai Paro’s house. Everyone met Baba ji and the Sikhs with great respect and bowed to them. Baba Mohri ji sat down and asked how everyone was doing. Everyone praised Bhai Paro: “there was none other like him. He was the gem of his family and made them immortal. He left his body and went to Sach Khand.” Everyone was happy to see Baba Mohri ji. The people of the village folded their hands and said: “oh son of Satguru ji, listen to what he did: he gave away all his things but kept 3 of them to give to Satguru ji. He himself has immerged into the Guru. Even when he was in his body, he only thought of the Guru and nothing else. His beautiful, clever and strong horse, which was the best one in the area and none can compare, he left this for Guru Sahib. He also left expensive cloth for Guru Sahib ji to make a chola with. Some money in a bag was left as well. He recited Japji Sahib and left his body in an instant.” Baba Mohri ji spent the night there. The next day, the Sangat came to visit Baba ji and thought of Bhai Paro ji. People came and bowed to Baba Mohri ji, just as they would have to Guru Amardas ji. They brought gifts for him and walked a far distance as he headed back to Goindwal.
Baba Mohri ji came back to Goindwal and went straight to Guru Amardas ji. He bowed to him with great humility and presented the three gifts to Guru ji, that Bhai Paro ji had left for him. Baba Mohri ji told Guru Amardas ji of how he had left earth. Guru ji looked at the gifts and thought in his mind: “this horse belonged to a Brahmgyaani. This should all go to Sri Ramdas ji.” The three things were given to Guru Ramdas ji. Guru ji spoke to Sri Ramdas ji with great love: “these gifts are from Bhai Paro ji that he has given to me. I would like you to have them. Accept them. This horse is smart, beautiful and strong. It has many virtues. Don’t give this horse to anyone else. This is for only you to ride. This chola and money is for you as well. You can spend the money as you wish, but do so where it will be used for the Dharma. Nobody else has any right over it besides you.” Sri Ramdas ji accepted the items and bowed with humility. He was in bliss to know Guru ji was happy with him. Sri Ramdas ji was blessed by Guru ji. Sri Ramdas ji was drenched in love and was able to tolerate the most difficult thing. He was able to harness the great power and responsibility of the Guru’s throne. He did Seva with great humility. Guru ji would bless him with great blessings and the Sangat would surround him all the time. He was able to fulfill the Sangat’s wishes. The ones who met Sri Ramdas ji and did Simran, their wishes were fulfilled. There was always a crowd at Goindwal. They came to ask for Mukti and a release from the web of the world’s ways. Whoever Guru Amardas ji would bless, they would get all 4 gifts (Dharam, Arth, Kaam and Moksha).
One day, within the family, Baba Mohri ji was speaking casually: “since I have been born, I have not seen 1 Lakh Taka gathered in one place. How much is a Lakh Taka? Pithaji does not like money. If someone gives him money, he gives it back to them or spends it on the Langar. The thing that Pithaji does not like, how would we see it? If money would come, we would be able to do more.” The omniscient Guru knew what was being said as he was sitting at the Chabarra Sahib. Guru ji lives in every heart and so, he hears everything. Guru ji thought to himself: “my son is in doubt. I will make his doubt go away. He sees the pros of money but not the cons.”
The next day, Guru Amardas ji spoke in Sangat: “whichever Sikh comes to the Sangat, they should bring 5 Paisas when they come to bow.” Everyone obeyed and began to bring 5 Paisas as they bowed. It was morning and the Sikhs came with money and presented it when they bowed. They met Guru ji with love. After 3 hours of Devan, the money piled up high. Guru ji then called for Baba Mohri. He had him sit next to him and said: “here you go son. Count this and gather the money. Spend it where you wish.” Baba Mohri ji obeyed and counted the money. He was happy to see the pile of money. As he was counting, the oxidation from the silver and metal coins made his hands black. There was blackness all over his hands. He washed his hands thoroughly but the blackness did not go away. Guru ji asked him what happened and Baba Mohri ji showed him what happened to his hands. Guru ji then spoke: “did you understand how money works now? Think about this: just touching it made your hands black. If you counted it everyday, your mind will become black as well. If you gather it and keep it in your home, then the soul becomes black. Even thinking about this makes your mind black. The biggest problem is: it doesn’t go with you when you die. It stays here. To collect a lot of money, the hands commit sin. After a lot of effort, one collects money. Then, keeping it is dangerous. You have to guard it from robbers and royal tax collectors. When money goes away, a person’s life goes away too. A person becomes really sad. Money is the enemy of Bhagti, as it causes many obstacles in its way. Renouncing it gives one peace. The true money is the Simran of Hari. Collect that money. This is the best wealth. Collecting it is no danger. It cannot be stolen or burned. Money gives pain. Listen son, money kills many other strong people. Simran gives peace. Simran destroys the cycle of birth and death.” Baba Mohri ji heard his father and thought about it: “Pithaji is right.” For the rest of his life, he did not think about collecting money or spending it. He became one with Simran. He listened to his father and achieved the level of pure wisdom. He was in bliss.
1-67 Sri Ramdas ji is given the Guru’s Throne and age
The Satguru is like the dwarf sandalwood that makes all other plants smell just like it. Satguru ji makes other people into Bhagats. Goindwal was a place of great bhagats and Bhagti. Guru Amardas ji made this place into “heaven on earth,” with Bhagti and Keertan. The world felt the radiance of the Bhagti in Goindwal. Wherever the praises spread, people heard and came to Goindwal, seeking Moksha. They came with happiness and stayed with Guru ji. They received the four gifts (Dharam, Arth, Kaam, and Moksha) from Guru ji’s feet. Guru ji gave people everything they wanted. Whatever Guru ji would think of, that would become reality, right away.
One day, Guru ji bathed and sat down in Samadhi. Bibi Bhaani ji came to meet her father. Guru ji saw his daughter and wanted to bless her: “my daughter, your husband Ramdas will die in a few days. If he dies, what will you do? The body is temporary and fragile. It dies in an instant.” Bibi Bhaani ji was very wise. She understood that her father’s words were always true. She figured out that her husband was going to die. She took off her nose ring off and placed it in front of her father (the nose ring was a symbol of married women). She folded her hands and said: “Prabhoo ji, what is there for me to do? It is all in your command. If I am to be a widow, then I will follow the Dharma of a widow. I will either burn in my husband’s pyre and die or whatever you command me to do, I will do. I will die without my husband.” Sri Guru Amardas ji heard her and said: “oh daughter, you are very wise. You are the Bhagat of Parameshver. Do not let go of your body. Do the Simran of Jagadeesh (the Master of the Universe). I will bless you. I won’t let your husband die. Although his age and breaths are complete. Today is his last day. His life is over. I know that there is no other way to keep him alive. I will give the remaining years of my life to him. I will go to Sach Khand and your husband will sit on the Guru’s throne.”
Guru Amardas ji called Sri Ramdas ji to him. He had him sit close to him and told him everything: “my son, the age of your body is complete. I have come to know that your breaths are complete. I am supposed to live 112 years. I am now 105. I am going to give you my remaining age of 6 years, 11 months and 18 days. Live the rest of your time engrossed in Prema Bhagti. You are the true heir to the throne of Guru Nanak Dev ji, that is why I am giving you my remaining life. We are both one in the same. I will go to Sach Khand. There is no difference between us. Just as a water inside a pot, is thrown in the ocean, that becomes part of the ocean. You are no longer Ramdas. You are one with the Guru. We are both one. If anyone tries to differentiate us, they will not be able to tell the difference. There is no difference. Your mind has Prema Bhagti flowing through it. You have enslaved me with your love.” Guru ji looked towards Bhai Bhalloo. Bhai Bhalloo heard Guru ji’s words and became depressed. He began to shed tears. Bhai Bhalloo’s mind was drenched with love for Guru Amardas ji. Guru ji said to him: “go and bring a good coconut and 5 Paisas.” Bring it quick and call Baba Buddha ji as well. You will not face the Jumms. You will meet the Indestructible Master. The desires and vices in your mind have died. Give Sri Ramdas ji a bath and make him wear the new clothes that Bhai Paro ji had given me. Don’t delay, don’t cry and only recite and sing Gurbani. Prepare all the things needed for the Initiation of the next Guru. The time for me to go to Sach Khand is near. Prepare for my cremation as well.” Bhai Bhalloo, who had won his Indriyas, heard Guru ji’s words and followed his orders. He brought water from the Baoli Sahib and gave Sri Ramdas ji a bath. Sri Ramdas ji’s court had all four gifts present, all the time.
The news spread about Guru ji’s leaving and passing into Guru Ramdas ji. The Sikhs in Goindwal all began to gather with Guru Amardas ji. Bhai Bhalloo ji brought the new clothes and had Sri Ramdas ji wear them. Sri Guru Amardas ji, the most gracious, gave love and respect to his servant, Sri Ramdas ji. He grabbed his right hand and had him sit on the throne of Guru Nanak Dev ji, where he himself once sat. He asked Baba Buddha ji to place the Tikka of the Guru, made of saffron and sandalwood, onto Guru Ramdas ji’s forehead. After the Tikka was placed on Guru Ramdas ji’s forehead, his radiance illuminated brightly throughout the dimensions of all creation. His forehead was bright. There was light everywhere. The light of the light came into Guru Ramdas ji, the king of kings. He was now a super sun sitting on the Singhasan of the universe. The 9 Niddhis and 18 Siddhis came to live in his feet. The whole world will source the Riddhis and Siddhis from Guru Ramdas ji’s feet. Everyone will ask and receive from him. The Parmeshwar, who resides in all of creation, has taken on a new form as Guru Ramdas ji. The Tilak of the Guru, shined on his forehead. Guru Amardas ji placed the coconut and the 5 Paisas in Guru Ramdas ji’s lap and made him the master of the 3 worlds. Guru Amardas ji said to Bhai Bhalloo: “call Mohan and Mohri, my sons. Tell the whole Sangat to come. Tell them my command and tell them that I am ready to leave for Sach Khand.” Bhai Bhalloo ji called everyone to come in Goindwal. The whole village was hurrying to come to Guru Amardas ji. They found out that he was going to Sach Khand and that the throne was given to Guru Ramdas ji. The Sangat began to shed tears.
Baba Buddha ji and other senior Sikhs were in the court, along with both of Guru Amardas ji’s sons. The court was in session and Guru Amardas ji spoke to his sons first: “my sons, bow to Guru Ramdas ji. He is the humblest of all and served the Guru well. He is able to harness the great power of the Guru.” Baba Mohan ji was unaware of the world’s way. He wasn’t aware of people. He spoke in court: “I am not going to bow to him. You are giving our rightful throne to him. We should be sitting on the Guru’s throne. He stayed in our home for many years. He made a living by staying in our home and raised his family. Now he is going to be the owner of our home. After you, it should be us that should be the owners. Other relatives and servants should stay here but the throne should be for us. He could stay here as well, along with the other relatives. You are going to give him the highest seat? We are your sons. We are not going to get the Guru’s throne? If you want to give him the Guru’s throne, so be it. But I will not bow to him. We are the sons of the Guru. We cannot bow to anyone else.” When Guru ji heard Baba Mohan’s response, he spoke to Baba Mohri ji: “my son Mohri, you should take the status of Sikhi. Now is the time. If you don’t want Sikhi, then say it now.” Baba Mohri thought to himself: “this is what happened during Guru Nanak Dev ji’s time as well as Guru Angad Dev ji’s time. Both, Guru Nanak Dev ji’s sons and Guru Angad Dev ji’s sons did not bow to the next Guru.” He thought carefully. Baba Mohri’s fortunate destiny had come to fruition. He was blessed by Guru ji. He believed in the Guru’s completeness. He understood why Guru Ramdas ji received the throne of the Guru. He understood that Guru Ramdas ji served the Guru with love and devotion and the other sons of the Gurus did not. This status is given to the servant who loses their ego and serves the Guru. Whoever is jealous, accomplishes nothing. Instead, that person sees difficulty. He thought: “it is best to obey Pithaji. We will be praised for listening to the Guru.” He then stood up. Baba Bhudda ji, other Sikhs and the Sangat all lined up behind Baba Mohri ji. Baba Mohri ji’s eyes lit up. He smiled and folded his hands. He faced the Guru, Guru Ramdas ji, listening to his Guru-Father’s command, he bowed to the feet of Guru Ramdas ji. Even though he was older than Guru Ramdas ji, he saw the same light in Guru Ramdas ji as his father. Baba Mohri ji was known as the “Sunmukh” (the one turned his face towards the Guru). The whole Sangat rejoiced and said: “Dhan Baba Mohri ji.” He was the first son of a Guru to bow to the next Guru. The rest of the Sangat came and bowed to Guru Ramdas ji. They put their head to Guru Ramdas ji’s feet and placed gifts in front of him. The fortunate ones folded their hands and circumvented the Guru. The Sikhs from the Sangat came one by one to bow. Guru Amardas ji then spoke: “my son, Mohri, tell me, what do you see Sri Ramdas ji as? You bowed to him; how do you see him? How will you see him after I am gone? Tell me what’s in your heart?” Baba Mohri ji folded his hands and spoke in the Sangat: “Pithaji, this is what I am seeing: I am seeing Sri Nanak, Sri Angad ji and you as the third form. I see Sri Ramdas ji as the fourth form. I see Sri Guru Ramdas ji as the same as the first three forms.” Guru Amardas ji and the other Sikhs were happy to hear Baba Mohri ji’s response. They wanted Baba Mohri ji to have faith in Guru Ramdas ji. Guru ji said to him: “my son, Mohri, you are great. You are the wisest and you will remain connected to me. You will be the first in everything. Your name is “Mohri,” meaning the “head.” You have proved the meaning of your name. You and I are one form. There is no difference between you and I. 21 generations of saints attain moksha, but in your case, 42 of your generations will be saints.” Baba Mohri ji, the fortunate one, said: “when the Dharmaraja asks for our karma, if you were to clear our accounts, then the generations will be saved.” Guru ji responded: “don’t worry, I have cleared all your karma accounts. You won’t go to Dharmaraja. You will come through a different path and will come straight to me. You are my pure Sikh and you have been given the status of Sikh. Your family will grow. Your family will have Sikhi. Your family will remain loyal and only worship the Guru’s house. They will see me as the Patriarch, Guru and the Dev. I will be the “Ishtdev” (the Master Lord) of your family.” As Baba Mohri ji heard all this, Guru Ramdas ji, the idol of love, with tears in his eyes, amazed by the ways of Guru Amardas ji, spoke: “Sri Prabhoo ji, give me the status of Sikhi. Please make Baba Mohri ji the next Guru. I am your servant as well as Baba Mohri ji’s. Both of your sons are eligible to be the Gurus. It is good for me to bow to the feet of both of your sons.” Guru Amardas ji heard Guru Ramdas ji and was reminded of the old boon. He said to Guru Ramdas ji: “I had to give the Guru’s throne to you. This is a very old boon (where the Bedis blessed the Sodhis that the fourth one to sit on Akaal Purakh’s throne will be from the Sodhi family. Guru Gobind Singh ji states this in his Bachiter Natak; Bhai Gurdas ji states this in his Vaars as well) that was fulfilled today. As the Bedis received the kingdom from the Sodhis, the Bedis blessed the Sodhis. My sons are without ego and enmity. You are to take care of them and keep them connected to the Guru’s house. Live with them in love.”
The whole family and the Sangat gathered at Chabarra Sahib. The whole family witnessed the amazing ways of the Satguru. The fortunate Bibi Bhaani got up and bowed to Guru ji. She folded her hands and said: “Prabhoo ji, you gave my husband the throne of the Guru. Now that the Guruship is in my family, I wish for the Guruship to remain in my family. I wish that no other servant will take it from my family. I would like my family members to serve the Guru and become the next Guru. Please bless me that no other family should sit on the Guru’s throne. Please have the Guru’s throne remain with the Sodhis.” Guru Amardas ji heard Bibi Bhaani ji’s words and said: “it won’t go anywhere. It will stay within your family. But remember, as the river flows, if someone tries to stop it, it still somehow flows on ahead. There will be conflicts and heavy battles. There will be bloodshed and martyrdoms. Those will not be avoided. Laxmi (Goddess of Wealth) came to Guru Nanak Dev ji’s house, but stood 36 km away from him. She couldn’t come any closer. With Guru Angad Dev ji, she was allowed to come 18 km closer. He didn’t let her come any closer than that. During my time, she came to my door and just stood there. She tried to come inside with all her strength, but I did not let her in. Now, during your time, she will come inside. She will bring problems and conflicts. This is her nature. The person who will sit on the Guru’s throne will not be affected by her. Her problems will not be able to affect the Guru.” In this way, Guru Amardas ji, blessed Guru Ramdas ji. He also gave blessings to Bibi Bhaani ji. Ramdas, Sri Satguru, has been announced in the world as the next Guru.
1-68 Sri Guru Amardas ji’s light emerges into the Eternal light
Guru Amardas ji had Baba Buddha ji with him as he placed the coconut and 5 Paisas in front of Guru Ramdas ji. He bowed to him and gave him all his powers. Guru Ramdas ji was now the same form as Guru Amardas ji. Guru Amardas ji circumvented Guru Ramdas ji three times and then bowed to him again. Baba Mohri ji, lead the Sangat and bowed his head to Guru Ramdas ji. The rest of the Sangat also came to bow and recognize Guru Ramdas ji as the next Guru. Guru Amardas ji, the washer of sins, gave the throne of the Guru to Guru Ramdas ji and got ready to leave for Sach Khand. He made him the master of the universe. Guru Amardas ji’s eyes were blooming. He was eager to go to Sach Khand. His face was radiant like the full moon. He was giving his servants bliss and happiness. His face was bright and his words were sweet as honey. His words would make everyone’s pain go away. People found out, far and wide: “Guru ji is going to leave is body today. He is really happy to go.” As people found out in the villages in and around Goindwal, they left whatever work they were doing and headed to Guru ji’s home. Some came on horses and some came on carts. Others ran to Goindwal to see Guru Amardas ji for one last time. They came as quick as they can: “to see the Guru is a big reward.” There was no one who didn’t want to come. The Sangat came from every direction and met Guru Amardas ji at Chabarra Sahib.
8km away, in Khadoor Sahib, the son of Guru Angad Dev ji, Baba Dattu ji, found out that Guru ji was going to leave. Many years ago, being under the influence of slanderers, he hit Guru Amardas ji in the chest with his leg. Since that dreadful day, Dattu’s leg had a deep pain in it. The pain was in his bone. He was embarrassed and didn’t come to ask for forgiveness. When he heard that Guru Amardas ji was leaving, Dhatu thought to himself: “I have bared the pain of my leg for many years. I should ask for forgiveness now. I didn’t go before because of my ego but Guru Amardas ji is a gracious being. He will have pity on me. He will give me what I ask for. If I don’t ask for forgiveness, my leg won’t stop hurting and I won’t be accepted in the next world. I will not get this opportunity again. If he leaves this world, I will regret it.” Baba Dattu left for Goindwal quickly.
Guru Amardas ji was sitting in the Chabarra Sahib. Baba Dattu bowed down like a stick in front of him. He grabbed Guru ji’s feet and began to shed tears. He said: “I have come to your sanctuary. Please protect me.” Satguru ji opened his eyes and saw Baba Dattu ji. He got up from his seat and grabbed his hands. He tried to make Dattu sit on his seat. He tried to grab Baba Dattu’s feet and said: “you blessed me by coming here during my last moments on earth. You are the same as Guru Angad Dev ji to me. I am blessed to see you. What can I do for you? My life would be a success if I may be able to serve you.” Baba Dattu wiped his own tears, folded his hands and said: “please do what I ask. Prabhoo, I am a sinner. I was stubborn and struck you with my leg. Jealousy had burned my chest. Secondly I was in the company of bad people who lead me astray. My mind was crazy because of those people’s influence. I wish to ask for forgiveness. I was embarrassed for many years and didn’t come to you. I sinned and was in pain this whole time. Oh gracious one, please forgive me. You are great, patient and the forgiver.” Guru Amardas ji heard him and said: “you are the son of my Satguru. I am your servant with my mind and body. I am ready to go to Sach Khand. Sri Ramdas ji is the Satguru now. I gave him the seat of Guru Nanak Dev ji, the throne that I sat on. Please keep your grace on him. You are elder, please remove all the obstacles. When his son becomes the Guru, after a while, he will come to you to Khadoor Sahib. He will touch you and then your pain will go away.” In this time, Baba Dasu ji came as well. Other Sikhs came as well to meet Guru ji. They folded their hands, bowed and sang: “Dhan Dhan Guru.” Guru ji then said to the Sangat: “I am now in Sri Ramdas ji. He is my form now. I live in him. Worship him just as you worshipped me. There is no difference between us. I gave him my age and made him sit on the throne. Whoever has faith in him, shall receive what they ask for. Now I am going to turn inwards.” The whole Sangat heard the Guru’s words with their own ears. They all shouted out: “Jai Jaikaar.” They folded their hands with humility. Their throats swelled and they could not speak further. It was the full moon in the month of Bhadron (August-September) 1574 AD, the Guru was going to emerge into the “Indestructible light.” Baba Mohri ji was standing there along with the Sangat. Guru Amardas ji said: “prepare the pyre. Prepare the palanquin to take my body.” Baba Mohri ji folded his hands and said: “what is the tradition by which we should carry out the cremation? What is our family’s tradition? Please tell us what to do and what not to do.” Sri Satguru ji then spoke: “I don’t need any tradition. I am about to receive the Siropa in the court of Akaal Purakh. So don’t be sad, be happy for me as I am going to be celebrated in Akaal Purakh’s court. Sing Gurbani after I am gone and feed everyone Langer. That is the only tradition you need to do. You can take my bones and place them in the Ganga River as per the traditions of the elders.” Mohri ji then said: “please tell us how to live as Ghristis. Without money, tasks cannot be completed. What type of work should we do, by which our households are run? If we don’t work, money won’t come. So please tell us what shall we do that will run our households.” Guru ji said: “my family should do work that is pure. It should be without fraud and lies. The work according to Dharma makes everything successful. If an obstacle comes in your way, do an Ardaas to me and I will come to fix it. Oh son, the work of Dharam is best. Do the Simran of Hari. This is the best Bhagti. As you do Bhagti in the Ghrist path, you receive the highest bliss and the doubts are destroyed. The Bhagti of Hari is the greatest Dharam. Don’t cheat anyone and earn honestly. Without Bhagti, without Simran, the other tasks are useless.” Guru ji then spoke to the Sangat: “do the Bhagti of Hari. Your pains and obstacle will be destroyed.” Guru ji looked towards the Sangat and his family. Thousands of people were standing, crying and their hands were folded. Guru ji fulfilled all their wishes. They all got what they wished for, in their hearts. Satguru ji said: “my sons, my family, my Sikhs, don’t mourn my passing. Stay happy and do Simran of Hari. Do Keertan and Katha. Listen to it and sing it.” Satguru ji had the house cleaned and sprinkled with sandalwood essence. Garlands of colourful flowers were hung everywhere. Satguru ji sat on his seat. Thousands of Sikhs were present. As everyone witnessed, Guru Amardas ji took a white sheet and covered his body with it, from head to toe, as he laid down. Guru ji immersed into the Brahm Saroop and went to Sach Khand.
There were many events taking place in the sky. It became very divine. The sun’s light dimmed down. A vessel from Sach Khand came to get Guru ji. Many other lights were illuminated in the sky. The vessels of the Devatas were present and covered the sky. The Devatas showered flowers as the light of Guru Amardas ji sat in his vessel. A pleasant-smelling wind came. The clouds rumbled in celebration. The Devatas all came: Brahma, Vishnu, Shivji, Inder, Sun and Moon along with Gandarvs, Sidhs, Rishis and other celestial beings, came and sung songs of celebration. They bowed to Guru Amardas ji and showered him with flowers from their realms. They said: “jai jai.” They played many instruments in celebration. The Apachras, the beautiful dancers of heaven, came to sing the glory of Guru Amardas ji, raising their arms up high. Their vessels were embedded with precious gems. Guru ji’s vessel was the most beautiful. It was made of a metal not existing in this world. Guru ji sat in the vessel. So handsome he was, that made billions of Kamadevas look pale. Everyone did his Jaikaar and bowed to him. They met Guru Amardas ji and were filled with bliss. As Guru ji was seated in the vessel, the Devatas surrounded him and walked along. They showered Guru ji with flowers and sang songs of joy. They all walked towards Sach Khand. Along the way, the Devatas had to stop to as much as they were allowed. Not all were allowed to go to Sach Khand. Only Guru ji could go to Sach Khand. They would bow and go back to their dimensions as Guru ji’s vessel went higher. Satguru ji reached the highest dimension as the Devatas watched. His light emerged into Akaal Purakh, like water mixes with water.
In Goindwal, the men and women sang Guru ji’s praises: “Dhan Dhan Satguru.” They got ready to bathe Guru Amardas ji’s body with water from the Beas River (Bipasha). Satguru Ramdas ji, Baba Buddha ji, Bhai Bhalloo ji, Baba Mohri ji, having love in their hearts bathed Guru Amardas ji’s body. They placed Guru ji’s body in a carrying palanquin. Guru Ramdas ji, Baba Bhudda ji, Bhai Bhalloo ji and Baba Mohri ji picked up the flat palanquin on their shoulders. Many Sikhs were there and walked along. Many conches were blowing, crisp rice, and flowers were rained upon Guru ji’s body. Guru Amardas ji’s grandchildren were there as well. The Chaurs were being waived on his body as it travelled on the flat palanquin. Rababis sang Gurbani as they walked. The Sikhs recited Gurbani just as Brahmins would recite passages from the Vedas. Golden coins were showered and given to the poor. The scent of the flowers spread everywhere. They brought Guru ji’s body to the shore of the Beas and found a spot for the cremation. Sandalwood was used to prepare the pyre. Thousands of Sikhs were there, as Guru ji’s body was placed on the pyre. Other essences and ghee were placed on the pyre as everyone did Simran of Satguru Amardas ji. Baba Mohri ji lit the pyre with fire, starting from the position of Guru ji’s head and then went around the pyre. The Kapaal Kriya was complete and everyone got up with Baba Mohri ji. They did the “Tilanjal Dhaan” (giving of the Sesame seed water) as per the traditions of the time. Everyone then bathed in the Beas and came back to the village. The Sikhs gathered at the Baoli and remembered Guru Amardas ji: “Guru Amardas ji’s radiance is unmatched. Dharmaraj obeyed Guru ji and no one died in Goindwal. What can be greater than this? We have heard that no child died in the kingdom of Ram Chander ji. He would give life to the child if it died. In Goindwal, nobody died: child, adult or senior.” In this way, they sang Guru ji’s praises. Everyone did Simran and nobody mourned. As Guru ji gave everyone what they wanted, they were worried if their wishes were going to be fulfilled in the future. It was 1631 Vikram, Bhadron, full moon, Tuesday, when Satguru ji left from Sach Khand. For 22 years, 5 months, and 11 days, the gem of the Bhallas sat of the throne of Guru Nanak Dev ji.
Guru ji opened the treasure of miracles. He gave many gifts to the Sikhs and saved their souls. He was the Parameshver that dispelled all sorrows. The servants that served him with their mind and body, they received great statuses. There was no limit to Guru ji’s virtues. He was Bhagavan in the form of a saint who had no beginning and no end. Munis did his Simran. Kavi Santokh Singh ji says: the master of the Devatas, Master Guru Amardas ji made his servants immortal. He is the greatest. He is the greatest. The Katha of Sri Guru Angad and Sri Amar ji was completed. I wrote it will the deepest emotions of my heart. The First Raas ends without any obstacles for everyone to read.
Thus ends the 1st Raas.
