1-61 Brahman Kheda Soini/ The Son of Gonda

There was a Brahman named Kheda Soini, who was a devout worshipper of Mata Durga ji.  He did a lot of pooja and was wise.  He carried the knowledge of Devi all the time.  Many people would come to him who were also Durga ji’s worshippers.  He would take them all to a pilgrimage to Durga ji’s Mandir, twice a year.  They would fast while they would do their worshipping.  Kheda Soini followed a strict way of doing pooja.  He did Simran of Durga all the time.  Once, as he was going on a pilgrimage, there was a big crowd with him.  As they travelled, they came upon Goindwal.  Everyone decided to meet Guru Amardas ji.  Kheda Soini told his people that he was going to see Guru ji and came to Chabarra Sahib.  As he came close, the Sikhs stopped him and said: “Pandit ji, listen, first you must follow Guru ji’s command, then you may come and see Guru ji.  You must first eat food in the Langar, then you may come see Guru ji.  This is the tradition of the Guru.  Go and eat Langar first.”  Kheda heard this and started to think, as he only ate food made by himself: “how do I break my tradition and eat food made by someone else?  I only eat food with purity and proper clean etiquette.  The Guru’s Langar has all castes that come and eat.  I don’t consider that hall as pure.  The Guru does not believe in the traditions of the Varans and Ashrams.  People reject their caste and then meet the Guru and become his Sikhs.  How can I do that?  Who is such a lover that only loves the Guru and renounces everything else?  Following the tradition of the castes is a very fortunate thing.  To be born in the house of Brahmins is a fortunate thing.  I can’t let go of this.  People already know I don’t eat like this.  What would they say?”  He kept his stubbornness and returned from the Chabarra Sahib, without meeting Guru ji.  He took his group and headed towards the Mandir.  Many people were with him that followed, saying “Jai Mata di.”  They travelled about 6 km and camped to spend the night.  They ate and then slept the night.  At night time, Kheda saw a scary dream.  Kalika with her Kaljognis came into his dream.  Her tongue was out with blood everywhere.  The Kaljognis were bouncing on his chest.  Kheda folded his hands and said: “Mata, I am your Bhagat.  Your Kaljognis are killing me.  Protect me from them!  Stop them, they are going to eat me.  What did I do that was so wrong?  You are showing me your scary form.”  Kali Mata responded in his dream: “you are my Bhagat.  That’s why I came to you in your dream.  You did not meet the Satguru and are coming to me?  He is the supreme.  That is why I showed you my scary form.  You are my bhagat.  The reward of my Bhagti is that you get to meet the Satguru.  I can’t give you mukti.  Only the Satguru can give you mukti.  You were supposed to meet the Satguru.  If you don’t meet the Guru and come to me, you won’t get my Bhagti.  Akaal Purakh took an Avatar to save the world.  Akaal Purakh is sitting in human form in Goindwal.  Thousands of people come and receive wisdom.  The Satguru is revealing the path of Sikhi.  He is the Parameshver Avatar.  He is my master.  The Avatar of Akaal Purakh is always hidden.  Go back and get rid of all your doubts.”  Kheda bowed in his dream.  When he woke up, he was in shock.

In the morning, Kheda went back towards Goindwal.  He now had faith and a deep desire to see Satguru ji.  He went straight to the Langar Hall and had Langer.  After eating, he went to go see Guru ji at the Chabarra.  His good karma was coming to fruition.  When he saw Guru ji, he was filled with love and bowed to Guru ji with humility.  Satguru ji asked him: “oh Brahman, tell me, why have you come to see me?”  Kheda told Satguru ji his whole story: “Satguru ji, I had doubts in my mind and didn’t eat Langar.  I went back and continued on my pilgrimage to the Devi’s Mandir.  In my dream, Devi Kalika came with a very scary form.  The Devi told me about your true form, that’s why I came back to your feet.  Please have merci on me.  The Devi had mercy on me and told me that there is no one greater than you.  I saw the scariest form of the Devi but now I wish to see the Devi in her true form.  I wish to see the form of the Devi which is the mother of all creation.  I want to see if she is happy with me or not.  This is the only wish I have.  Until I don’t see her, my pain will not be gone.  Please show me the form of Devi Bhagwati.  You are the greatest of all, please bless me.”  Guru ji heard him and smiled.  He said to him: “I can show you her form, but you do not have the strength to see her true form.  If she comes in front of you, you won’t be able to stand in front of her.  Think about this first.”  Kheda heard Guru ji and said: “please show me.  The worst that can happen is that I will die.  I don’t care.  Whatever happens, happens.”  Guru ji looked towards Bhai Bhalloo and said: “Bhalloo, hold his arm and take him to the Chabarra and show him the mother of all creation.”  Bhai Bhalloo took Kheda to the Chabarra and took him inside.  There was a bright light inside the Chabarra that felt like a million suns.  He saw the awesome form of Chandi with swords, shields, and spears.  He saw the Devi with the Ashtbhujja (8 arms- signifying 8 directions) in the Chabarra.  With the first sight, he became unconscious.  He trembled and fell to the ground.  It was like he died.  Bhai Bhalloo told Guru ji what happened.  Guru ji said: “bring him to me.”  Bhai Bhalloo brought him back and put him at Guru ji’s feet.  Guru ji looked at him.  He grabbed his chin and said: “get up.”  It was as though he was resurrected.  He opened his eyes and saw Guru Amardas ji.  He had full faith in Guru ji now, as he had seen the form of Chandi, which many saints had not been able to see with thousands of years of Tapp.  He folded his hands and fell to the Guru’s feet.  He said: “Guru ji, make me your servant.  Make me your Sikh.  That’s the only wish I have now.”  Guru ji was happy with him.  He said: “you are my Sikh.  You served the Devi your whole life.  Now I will give you the Guru’s mantra.  You will now know about the real form of yourself.  You will be given the knowledge by which your Aatma will emerge into Akaal Purakh’s true form.  You will understand Sikhi and teach others.  You will do Simran of Satnam and also make others do this Simran as well.”  In this way, Satguru ji gave him Brahmgyaan.  He received all the powers and the light of Naam was lit inside of him.  He received bhugti and mukti.  He gave the Naam to thousands of others and connected them to the Satguru.  Whoever did Kheda’s Sangat, their pain from many births was washed away.  They were not visited by the Jumms.  He preached the Sikhi of Satguru ji and came back to Goindwal Sahib from time-to-time.

Whoever is blessed by Guru ji, they and their family cross this world ocean.  Gonda Khatri came to Guru Angad Dev ji and was blessed.  Goindwal was established by Guru Angad Dev ji’s instructions.  Gonda Khatri stayed under Guru Amardas ji’s command.  His end time came and he died.  He had two sons that remained.  They did not follow Guru Amardas ji’s way.  They were egotistical about being the Chaudharys of the village: “we are the Chaudharys.  All the people of this village are under us.  The whole village belongs to us.  Whoever lives here, gives us taxes.”  They thought: “Sri Guru ji lives here too but he does not give us taxes.  A lot of money comes to them.  We deserve a portion.  Thousands come here everyday to eat Langar.  That means they have money.  We should take taxes from them.  This is our Chaudry’s right.  First, they had less money but now they have a lot of income with Sangat coming.  People from every direction come.”  Their mind turned to the worst.  They did not know the glory of Guru ji, even though they lived right next to Guru ji.  Just as the bamboo does not pick up the scent of sandalwood like any other plant, these fools did not pick up the great personality of Guru ji.  Just as people who live close to the great Teeraths do not value the greatness of the place; they have no faith and do not bathe at the Teerath, so were the sons of Gonda.  They are foolish and gathered sin.  They go to the far “Teeraths,” seeing value, elsewhere.  The fortunate ones with faith are only blessed.  Gonda’s sons did not understand that Guru ji is the one that established the village by driving the ghosts away.  The sons started a new conflict everyday.  They were arrogant and foolish.

One day, the sons of Gonda came to Guru ji and sat down.  They said: “you live in our village and we are the Sardaars.  You should give us some Sardaari (taxes).  Everyone else pays taxes and accepts our leadership.  They give what they are supposed to.  You have been living here for many years and gave us nothing.  You should pay taxes as well.  You receive many gifts from Sikhs around the world, you should give us a cut.  When you first came here, you didn’t have much money.  Now, you have a lot of Sikhs who bring you a lot of money.  People from many lands come.”  Guru ji, the giver of mukti, heard the fools speak and said to them in a casual way: “get up and go the Langar.  Go and eat food as much as you want.  The Sangat that comes from other lands also eat from the same Langar.  You should eat too.  The point of money is to eat food.  Eat as much as you want here.  Nobody will stop you from eating.  Anyone who is hungry comes to eat there.  Bring your family and your servants.  The Sangat is my family, wealth and everything.  The poor Sikhs are given subsistence here.  Your father brought me here and never asked for any money.  You have come to me with greed.  I do not gather any money in my home.  Food and wealth are not kept here for us to give you.”  Gonda’s son said: “we are determined to take taxes.  We don’t want anything else.  Give us money as taxes.  We only eat our own food.  We will buy our own food from the market.  You have no shortage as there is always a crowd here.  A lot of money comes everyday from people who come for far away.  They come and bow with faith.  Kings come to you and bring expensive gifts and money.  Give us our portion as well.”  Guru Amardas ji understood that these Chaudharys were blind with greed.  They wish for money.  Guru ji said: “all you can get from the Guru is Langar.  Let go of your greed.  You won’t get any money.  Why do you wish for money?  You are arguing with me for money.”  In this way the Chaudharys and Guru ji had an argument.  They had bad intentions and the conflict escalated.  They said: “we will go to Delhi and tell the Emperor that we want money.  We will get a royal command.”  Guru ji said: “you are happily free to do so.  Don’t expect any money from me.”

The Marwaha Chaudharys went home and decided what to do next.  They decided to go to Delhi.  They went to meet Akbar, the Emperor, in Delhi.  (In the court of complaints, the person who wished to complain had to wear a black coat to speak in the court.  Because hundreds of other people wore the same coat, it was full of lice and dirt.  Whoever wanted to complain, they had to be serious about their complaining) The fools presented their complaints and asked for justice.  There was a Pathaan who was a Sikh in Akbar’s court.  He told the Emperor that: “these people are talking about the same Guru Amardas ji who blessed you in winning the Chittorgarh fort.”  The Pathaan clarified everything for Akbar.  The Pathaan made the Chaudharys look like fools.  As soon as Akbar figured out what was going on, he got mad at the Chaudharys and had them beaten up.  They were pushed and shoved out of Delhi.  The Chaudharys clothes were ripped and they ran back home.  They were embarrassed as they came back home.  They died after a few days.  They died of a throat illness.  They developed an illness in their throats for talking bad about the Guru.  The whole world found out what happened and what they tried to do.  Parmeshwar punished the sinners.  Guru Ramdas ji is omniscient and the ocean of blessings.  He was always doing Seva in the court of Guru Amardas ji.  He wrote about the whole incident with the Marwaha Khatris, the sons of Gonda, in the Vaar of Gauri Raag.  He wrote a Salok about the state of the Chaudharys.

Salok M: 4..

Filled with dirt and lice, the blue and black coat of the complainant, the deniers of the Guru’s greatness, put the coat on..

No one lets such people close to them as they came to slander the Guru; filled with filth, the manmukhs were filthier with filth in their hearts..

The slanderers were sent to slander the Guru, their faces were dirty with even more filth..

The whole world heard, my brother, the person along with his servant were beaten with shoes; with confusion, they came back home..

When they came home, they were not appreciated, sitting in the Sangat, nor in their family and relatives; they hid between their wives and nieces..

They talked bad about the Guru and so they lost in this world and in the next; their throats developed a sickness and could not eat anymore; they yelled in hunger and thirst as they could not eat or drink..

The Karta Purakh master is always great who made the judge make the right decision..

Whoever slanders the complete Satguru, The true Lord punishes then and destroys them..

The Creator who created the whole world, has said these words: (the slanderer of the Satguru is destroyed)..1..

The sons of Gonda died.  They only had one of their son’s surviving.  The wife of Gonda realised her sons made a mistake and that their house was in trouble.  She only had the one grandson and brought him to Guru ji.  She begged Guru ji: “my foolish sons did not understand your greatness.  It was your glory that gave us the leadership of this village.  We flourished because of you.  My sons sinned and lost everything when they fought with you.  I only have this one child left.  Oh giver of peace, please bless him and save him.  Whatever my sons did, they were punished for it.  We didn’t advise them well either.  We are all ruined but please forgive us.  I have come seeking your protection.  Saints are here to bless everyone.  Please bless the bad as well.”  Prabhoo ji protected the child with his love and said: “the family will grow from this child.”  The woman was happy and went back home.  She told the child to be in the Guru’s faithful Sangat.  She was a wise woman who had her family blessed.

1-62 Vidhya-Egotistical Pandit Bayni/ Firia and Kataara

There was a Pandit named Bayni who was a scholar.  He was an expert in Nayaa Shaaster and other Granths.  He had them memorized.  He travelled the world and was proud of his knowledge.  He would reach places where other scholars would gather and debate about different topics.  He would put up posters in the city he was travelling through that would say: “if someone defeats me in a debate, they will take all my books.  If I defeat someone, I will take all their Granths.”  People would come to see his debates with enthusiasm.  Bayni Prashaad would defeat the other person within a few minutes and take all their books.  He had a camel that he would travel on and would pack his books on it.  Rich people heard about his knowledge and gave him a lot of money.  News spread about his knowledge.  He was known throughout Hindustan.  He would take the books and travel from one city to another.  One camel would stay with him at all times, others he would send home with the new books.  He soon reached Punjab.  His students would follow him to learn from him.  He had about 200 people with him.  He would teach a lot of knowledge.  He would say: “I want to win the whole world in debate.  Who can match me and defeat me?  There is no other scholar like me.”  He was full of ego.  Casually, he reached Punjab.  He saw Sikhs wake up in the morning and bathing.  He saw them reading Gurbani and then inquired of who those people were.  He found out that their Guru was in Goindwal.  He travelled to Goindwal to see Guru ji.

Bayni heard about Guru Amardas ji’s praises.  He saw Guru ji’s praises everywhere.  He wanted to see what the path of Sikhi was.  He didn’t expect to be blown away.  Guru Amardas ji was walking towards the Baoli one day.  Guru ji sat down near Baoli Sahib.  A Divaan started there.  Sikhs listened to Guru ji.  Bayni came to Guru ji’s Divaan.  Guru ji had Bayni sit down close to him with great respect.  Guru ji met Bayni with great love and happiness.  He asked him how he was and spoke with love.  The Sangat came to meet Guru ji when Bayni came.  The Sangat placed money in front of Guru ji, which Bayni observed.  The Sikhs’ wishes were being fulfilled.  They bowed to Guru ji because they were saved in this world and in the next.  Bayni saw everything and had ego in his mind.  He said: “Tapp, fasting, pilgrimage, donation are ways to achieve mukti.  They are the best actions to purify the mind.  People achieve the highest states of mind in this way.  You don’t have your Sikhs do any of these things.  How will your Sikhs achieve the highest state?  If you want the best for them, then give them the wisdom to go to the Teeraths or do Tapasya.  Clean their mind in this way.  Give them the knowledge of the Shaasters, Simritees and Puranas.  They will achieve mukti then.”  Guru ji heard the Pandit.  The Pandit was speaking with ego.  Guru ji said: “Tapp and all the things you mentioned are traditions of the Yugas of the past.  That was the Dharma of the first three Yugas.  In Kaliyuga, there is no time or ability to do all that.  Without food, a person dies.  How can one live in the jungle and do Tapasya?  The people of the other Yugas had the ability to control their hunger.  Their life expectancy was more than now.  There is no money to do yagna now.  There is no strength comparative to those yugas.  If I was to indulge these Sikhs into Karma, nothing will be done.  Their whole day is spent trying to earn for food.  The body and eyes are not pure in Kaliyuga.  The traditions of food preparation with purity cannot be done either.  They only care about how their hunger can be satiated.  They can’t do all those things.  They can only do Simran in this yuga that will give them mukti.  The Tapp and yagna were too hard.  Even after so much tapp and yagna, they only got the reward of heaven and the punishment of Hell for their bad karma.  When their rewards would finish, they would be thrown out of heaven.  It still didn’t give them mukti.  Simran gives them mukti.  It is above Tapasya, donations, yagnas and fasting.  The karmas did not give a person the stillness of mukti.  These karmas were done with ego.  Therefore, they only got pleasure and pain.  After doing so much effort, the reward was so small.  Heaven and Hell are not forever.  Nobody can live there forever.  It is now Kaliyuga.  Whoever is the ruler, owns the law.  Guru Nanak made the law of Simran in Kaliyuga.  There is nothing compared to the Seva of the Guru and the Sangat.  The Simran of Satnam is the highest.  It gives you bhugti and mukti.  Simran and Seva are the praises of Bhagti.  There is nothing greater than this in the world.  There is no other way to get mukti other than this.  Just as oil cannot be taken from sand, mukti cannot come from karmas.  Fasting and other karmas are stale without Naam.  How much more can I say?  These other actions cause ego to grow and puts you deeper into the cycle of birth and death.  The Simran kills the ego.  Ego is the root of sin.  The person who wants mukti should stay away from ego and arrogance.  You are a scholar, Pandit ji.  Knowledge is a light.  You should illuminate this light in others as well.  You yourself are falling in darkness though, and telling others how to achieve mukti.  You are full of ego.  You want to win the whole world.  You want to win the three worlds.  You haven’t won your own mind but made a lot of enemies for yourself.  Did you receive any rewards for winning others?  Thousands of my Sikhs have achieved mukti by doing the Simran of Satnam and killing their egos.  Pandits get lost in their knowledge and drown in their ego.”  The Pandit went into deep thought: “knowledge has led me to ego.  Only those that defeat their ego achieve mukti.  They do that by the Simran of Satnam, thereby killing their ego.  Guru ji’s words are correct.  I will achieve mukti in this way as well now.  I have understood the true path by meeting Guru ji.”  He became humble and asked Guru ji for wisdom: “I have gathered a lot of knowledge and became egotistical.  I was busy gathering knowledge and could not do the Bhagti of Hari.  I was busy doing the actions and debating with other scholars.  My ego and pride were a myth.  I didn’t know the significance of the Satsangat and Prabhoo.  I have understood the glory of Akaal Purakh from your words.  I know the path to Parmeshwar now.  Your words are powerful.  You are powerful.  My heart is getting soft now.  Please shower your love and bless me with wisdom.  Please wash away my vices.  How can I win my mind, desire, anger, ego and cleverness?  How can my mind be purified?  Bless me with wisdom, oh gracious one.”  Satguru ji heard Bayni’s request and spoke with grace, those words which destroyed the vices and illuminated light inside of him:

(SGGS 1261)

Guru ji stated the Gurbani and explained the meanings to the Pandit.  The Pandit heard the holy words and his ego was destroyed.  He thought to himself: “Guru ji is speaking the truth.”  Love flourished in his heart for Guru ji.  Guru ji looked at him again and connected the Pandit to his real self.  He had been asleep from his real self for many births, but was now awake.  He saw his real self, the Aatma.  He went into a deep Samadhi as he was sitting there.  He saw the Brahm Saroop that was residing in the whole universe.  The still form.  The utmost peace.  He opened his eyes after a long time.  Guru ji saw his state and said: “Pandit ji, you are great.  You have lost your vices and pain.”  Bayni was now in bliss and sang the praises of Satguru ji: “Prabhoo has come to save the Bhagats and to give them bliss.  Only you know how great you are.”

Bayni stayed with Satguru ji for many days.  He renounced his desires and had love in his heart.  He took all his books from his camel and threw them into the Beas River.  He was in bliss.  The burning from the vices was gone.  He stayed with Guru ji for a long time and worshipped the Guru.  He tried to do Seva in the Langar but the Sikhs would not let him do Seva as he was a scholar.  Bayni told Guru ji that the Sikhs won’t let him do Seva.  Guru ji told him: “the Sikhs are smart.  You should do katha of Gurbani.”  Bayni did katha of Gurbani.  He received a Manji from Guru ji.  He began to reside in Chooriaya.  His 9th generation was Pandit Hardyal ji, the translator of Saarukatavali and Viraag Shatak.  This was during the time of Maharaj Ranjit Singh ji.

There were two Sikhs who lived in Goindwal named Firia and Kataara.  They did a lot of Seva in the Guru’s house.  One day, Guru ji saw them and was very happy with their Seva.  Guru ji wanted to give them a blessing.  He called them to him and said: “where do you live?  In your country what is the religion there?  What do people do to make their life a success, spiritually?  The people who are into actions, go and stop them.  Tell them to do Simran of Satnam.  Preach Sikhi.”  The two Sikhs spoke with their hands folded: “Satguru ji, what strength do we have?  In our regions, there live Jogis, who pierce their ears.  They do Jantras and Mantras and show their powers.  The people recite “Gorakh, Gorakh” and worship the Jogis.  There is no Mandir of Devi or Devs and they do not know Parmeshwar.  They do not know Japp, Tapp, and they do not go to Teeraths.  There is know Prema Bhagti.  They are caught up in worldly tasks like making money and social norms.  They don’t listen to us.  They cannot be put on the right path without the Guru’s grace.  They are stuck in magic and spells.”  Satguru ji heard them and gave his command: “you go to that place and give them the wisdom of Satnam.  Show them the path of Gurmukhs.”  Firia and Kataara said: “those people have powers of Jantras and Mantras.  They push away people who they don’t like.  They kill them.  How can we go there without powers?  How can we make them do Simran of Satnam?”  Guru ji was happy and then said: “whatever you will say, will become true.  You will have great powers. Jantras and Mantras will not affect you.  The powers will live in your feet.  Wherever the Jogis have made their places, take over the place and kick them out.  Destroy their places.  The Jogis won’t be able to face you and will run away.  Make Dharmsalas in the villages and do Keertan there.  Live in peace.  Make them do Simran, donation and washing of the mind and body.  Make the places pure.  The people that come to see you, connect them to the Simran of Satnam.  They will come and worship your feet.”  Guru ji gave the two Sikhs Riddhis and Siddhis.  There were given blessings.  They bowed and left towards their villages.  They went to the biggest places of the Jogis first.  The Jogis tried to scare the Sikhs but were unsuccessful using the power of Jantras and Mantras.  The effect was reversed and the Jogis ran away.  The Jogis were in pain and ran away.  The Jogis called their most senior Mahant and tried to overpower the Sikhs.  He was unsuccessful too and ran away.  They ran away like sparrows flying away after seeing the hawk; like a deer runs away seeing the lion.

The Jogis places were destroyed.  The people saw and inquired to see who the Sikhs were.  They had discussions and said: “it seems these people are stronger than the Jogis.  The Jogis were our Peers but they ran away seeing these Sikhs.  They are more powerful.  Let’s go and ask them who they are and who sent them.  They destroyed Guru Gorakh’s temple and are not afraid of the Jogis.”  Everyone came to see the Sikhs.  The Sikhs were doing Keertan and Simran.  The people heard the Keertan and their heads bowed.  They bowed to Firia and Kataara.  They had love in their hearts.  They came everyday and listened to Gurbani being sung.  Their minds became still and peaceful.  They were given the true name, Satnam.  They did Bhagti and became Gurmukhs.  They became fortunate.  Whatever they asked for from the Sikhs, they received.  A beautiful Dharamsala was constructed and Satsangat happened everyday.  Other places of the Jogis were destroyed and Keertan happened there.  They were given the wisdom of Naam (name), Dhaan (donation) and Ishnaan (cleansing of mind and body).  They stopped the Jantras and Mantras.  They were all Sikhs now.  Their ignorance was destroyed and wishes fulfilled.  People worshiped Bhai Firia and Kataara.  They showed the people the greatness of Gurbani.  The whole region turned to Sikhi.  People brought gifts for them and took them to their houses for Langar.  They would go back to Goindwal, some times, and came back after worshiping Guru Amardas ji.

1-63 Resurrecting the Child/ Akbar comes

Satguru ji the most gracious, the protector of the poor, the ocean of compassion and empathy, his glory spread throughout the world.  There was no other like him.  He had the ability to rid the pain of all three worlds.  He blessed the village of Goindwal, just as Ram Chander ji loved Ayodhya and made everyone happy in that city; just as Krishan ji lived in Dwarka and relieved his servants from pain.  In Kaliyuga, it is Guru Amardas ji who removes many types of obstacles and pain.  The biggest pain, death, Guru ji removed that from his servants’ heads.  Whichever person would die, Guru ji would give them life again.  Nobody died in his village till he lived there.  Everyone lived on with the radiance of Guru ji.  When a person would die, they would bring the body in front of Guru ji.  Guru ji was so giving that he would touch them with his foot and wake them up again.  The person would wake up and walk to their own home.  In this way, Guru ji’s glory spread everywhere.  People’s physical and spiritual wants were fulfilled.  No one was ever sick in Goindwal.  Every family in Goindwal grew.  As no one died, the seniors saw their great grandchildren.  People in Goindwal were rich.  They always had an abundance of food and clothes.  They had no worries whatsoever.  They all praised Guru Amardas ji.  The whole village bowed at Chabarra Sahib, where they would see Guru ji in the window.  Guru ji would meditate there standing up, holding on to a peg.  People would compare Guru ji to Ram Chander ji.  Guru ji commanded Bhai Bhalloo: “man or woman, whoever is in pain, regardless of religion or class, bring them to me.  Tell me who is sick or in pain.  I will make their pain go away.”

There was a widow, in Goindwal, who was a Kshatriya woman with one son.  She worked hard and raised her son without a husband.  There was a time when the son got sick and had a fever for two days and died the third day.  When the son died, it was midnight.  The mother screamed and shouted: “oh son, I raised you with hard work.  I did not get to see you happy.  Why did you leave me, son?  Take me with you!  I will take my life.  What will I do remaining alive?  You were my support and the reason to live.”  The woman yelled in this way.  She pulled her hair and hit her head.  She cried out loud and couldn’t control the pain of her grief.  When it was time for Guru ji to wake up, Guru ji opened his eyes.  The widow brought her dead child’s body to Guru ji’s door.  She cried out loud.  Guru ji heard her cry and could not tolerate her pain.  Bhai Bhalloo was close by.  Guru ji said to him: “who is it that woman that is crying?  Go and tell her to stop.  It is the Amritvela, the time to remember Akaal Purakh.  Give her hope and tell her that Amritvela is the time to receive all rewards.  Tell her to stop crying and meditate on Akaal Purakh.  Stay quiet till the sun comes up.  Tell her to read Gurbani and I will remove her pain when the sun comes up.  I need to do my Nitnem.”  Bhai Bhalloo ji came to the widow and told her: “Satguru ji has commanded you to not cry during the Amritvela.  When the sun comes up, your son will be alive again.  Guru ji will make him alive.  It is now the time for his Nitnem.  Other Sikhs are reciting Gurbani as well.  Recite the name of Ram and stay quiet.”  The woman felt like she had Amrit placed in her ears.  She had hope and faith that her son will be alive again.  But, she was still in pain.  She shouted out loud and said: “Satguru ji, I only have your support.  I have no one else besides my son.  He is dead.  I have come to you for your protection.  Please help us.”  She continued to cry: “hai, hai.”  She pulled her hair.  Bhalloo came back to Guru ji and said: “Guru ji, I tried to tell her to stop but she can’t wait.  She is a widow and she’s lost her son.”  Guru ji, the most gracious, came out right away.  He came outside and went to the crying woman.  He touched the child’s head with his toe and gave him life again.  The child woke up saying “Vahiguru!”  Both the woman and the son put their head on Guru ji’s feet.  The mother took her son back home with great happiness. Guru ji came back to his home and said to Bhai Bhalloo: “Bhalloo, this is not a good thing to keep resurrecting dead people.  Akaal Purakh does not like this.  From now on, nobody in Goindwal will die.  Until I am alive, and in this body, nobody will die in Goindwal.  This power will remain hidden this way.”  Guru ji told Yamraj to not send his Jumms to Goindwal for till he is here.  The Yamraj that kills all, Guru ji stopped him from coming to Goindwal: “don’t take anyone’s life in Goindwal.”  For 22 years nobody died in Goindwal.  Guru ji was on the throne and everyone was happy.  Nobody died and everyone was rich.  The families lived in happiness.  They were not afraid of death.  The ways of the Guru are amazing, the Guru lights lamps without oil.  The Guru can squeeze oil from sand.  The Guru satiates sand with water; lights fire on water and cools fire down; the moon can be made as hot as the sun, the sun is rubbed against the earth; the earth blown away like the wind; the wind is made still, like the Sumer Mountain.  The Mer Mountain is blown away; the grain of sand is made into a mountain; holes are made in great big mountains; potholes are made into mountain.  If the Devatas do not listen to Guru ji, then Guru ji can take them from Heaven and throw them to Hell.  The people suffering in Hell, the Guru can bless them and give them mukti.  Brahma’s traditions can be spoiled by the Guru, and can also fix the spoiled.  The Guru can stop the flowing, and flow the steady.  The Guru can make paupers out of kings and kings out of paupers.  The drama of the Guru is amazing.  Nobody can refuse the command of the Guru.  The Guru is supreme.  The Guru is omnipotent.  The Guru can make or destroy anything.  The tradition made by Akaal Purakh, although, the Guru does not change.  The traditions are kept by the Guru.  Guru ji is the ocean of compassion.  The glory of Guru Amardas ji spread throughout the world.  The people of Goindwal would say: “Akaal Purakh lives in our village.  He has scared away Aadi, Biaadi and Upaadi illnesses.”

The Emperor Akbar came from Delhi and camped, after crossing the Beas River.  He was travelling to Lahore but stopped in Goindwal.  The officers who were wise, told the Emperor: “Guru Amardas ji, the one who blessed you to win the Chittorgarh fort, lives here.”  Akbar heard this and thought: “the Chittorgarh fort was hard to win.”  Akbar had love in his heart and wanted to see Guru ji.  He gathered nice gifts.  He sent his officers to request Guru ji for permission so that he may come and visit Guru ji.  The messengers went to Guru ji, who was sitting near the Baoli Sahib.  Bhai Bhalloo folded his hands and spoke into Guru ji’s ear: “Paatshaah ji, the Emperor of Delhi is here.  He wishes to see you.  His messengers are here to get your permission.  His camp is close by.  Should we clean the way and place tarps for him?”  Guru ji gave the permission.  Bhai Bhalloo had the path cleaned and the tarps placed.  The Emperor came out of his tent and left his chariot, horse and army there.  There were tarps laid out so the Emperor could walk bare feet to Guru ji.  They were made of silk and were really expensive.  Akbar was a wise and faithful person.  He did not walk on the tarps.  Instead, he grabbed the tarps and moved them out of his way.  He walked on the ground without his shoes, with humility.  He came to Guru ji.  He was wearing expensive clothes and jewellery.  His jewellery had rubies, emeralds and diamonds in them.  The diamonds and pearls reflected light, shining bright.  He was wearing fine silks.  He came to Guru ji’s court.  Many people bow to the Emperor whose glory was great.  Guards carrying golden maces walked in front of him, who wore expensive clothes and jewellery as well.  They held the maces with pride.  Akbar bowed to Guru ji and sat down, gathering his hands and feet together as a sign of respect.  He spoke to Guru ji with love.  He did not eat in the Langar.  Guru ji’s tradition was to eat first.  Guru ji noticed that Akbar did not eat before he came and this was against the traditions.  Guru ji, with his glory, inspired Akbar’s mind to ask about Langar.  Akbar folded his hands and said: “Guru Sahib ji, what food do you eat?  What do you like to eat?”  Guru ji said: “I have no desire to eat tasty foods.  I eat Ogra, without any salt and spices.  I eat once a day.  I don’t eat anything else.”  The Emperor was amazed that Guru ji was so old and ate so less.  He wondered how Guru ji had so much energy and radiance by eating so less.  He folded his hands and said: “Guru ji, bless me with the same Ogra.  You are the same as Khuddah.  You can give blessings and curses that are always true.  I am blessed to have met you.  Please give me spiritual happiness.”  Guru ji understood his love and said: “Bhalloo, bring the same Ogra that I eat, for the Emperor, if it is ready.”  Bhai Bhalloo brought a tray full of Ogra and placed it in front of Akbar.  The Emperor put a morsel of the Ogra into his mouth.  He was amazed to taste the Ogra.  It was the most delicious thing he had ever eaten.  It was sweeter than anything he had had before in his life.  First it was sweet.  The second morsel was sour.  He was amazed how the same food was sour.  The third morsel was salty.  The fourth tasted like Kheer (rice pudding).  As he ate, he was amazed at the way the taste would change.  He tasted the 6 types of tastes.  He kept eating and said: “I have never had Ogra without any salt but can taste everything in it.”  The Emperor was fully satiated.  He folded his hands and said: “Guru ji, your praises cannot be sung.  You are omnipotent and complete.  If you may bless me and allow, I would like to give you something.  I would like to give you a Jageer/land to serve for the Langar.  I will be in peace if you accept this gift.”  Guru ji smiled and said: “I have no desire for anything.  The treasuries of Guru Nanak are abundant.  Guru Nanak Dev ji has given enough.  The Sangat eats and the food is never in shortage.”  The officers with the Emperor also folded their hands and insisted that Guru ji take the Jageer.  Forcefully, Akbar wrote the deed to many villages on the name of Bibi Bhaani ji, citing her as his sister and Guru ji as his father, and placed it at Guru ji’s feet.  This history will be stated in detail later on, where the history of Amritsar will be stated. The Emperor took leave after Guru ji was given the deed.  Guru ji was sitting in his court, illuminating.

1-64 Bibi Bhaani ji/ Bhai Langaah

Sri Guru Amardas ji thought about the future and took the deed to 84 villages from Akbar for Guru Ramdas ji.  He knew that the Guru’s house needed money and wealth later on in the future for Langar, so he accepted the Jageer of those villages.  Guru Amardas ji spread the word of Bhagti.  Whenever he would see a needy person, he would bless them and give them what they needed.

Guru ji’s younger daughter, Bibi Bhaani ji would serve Guru Amardas ji.  She would see her father as Akaal Purakh, and love him so.  She was very wise and worshipped Guru ji.  She was the incarnation of Prema Bhagti.  She was the incarnation of Akaal Purakh’s glory.  She was the form of Laxmi.  She was fortunate and Patti Vratha (chaste and saw Akaal Purakh in her husband).  She was very humble and wise.  She would serve Guru Amardas ji.  No one else would serve him as much as her.  She was full of faith and devotion.  She would prepare and bring her father Ogra to eat.  She would impress her father with her Seva.  She would wake up at 2 am and bathe everyday.  She would come to her father’s court and bow to him.  She kept her mind focused in the Guru’s feet all the time.  She saw Guru ji as Akaal Purakh’s form.  She would do Seva with devotion, which was loved by Guru Amardas ji.

One day, Bibi Bhaani ji was sitting humbly with her father and said: “Pithaji, my in-laws are quite rich.  They are proud of their wealth.  They all speak with ego and wear expensive clothes.  They wear golden jewellery.  They look at my simple clothes and tease me.”  Guru ji heard his daughter’s words and knew what she was thinking.  Bhagavan ji saw a brick in front of him and said: “will gold, the size of this brick be enough?  Will you be able to make clothes and jewellery from that much gold?  If yes, then pick up this brick.”  Bibi Bhaani ji said: “Pithaji, you are omniscient.  You are the supreme.  You can do anything you want and know everything.”  When she looked towards the brick, it began to shine like gold.  She picked up the brick, obeying her father’s command.  Bibi Bhaani ji said: “I will make jewellery for myself and for my children.”  Guru ji said: “I have no attachment to gold and don’t keep any of it.  I am to stay simple by Akaal Purakh’s command.  When the Guru’s throne comes to your home, you will receive a lot of wealth.  You needed this gold now, take this.  This will grow.”  As Guru ji blessed Bibi Bhaani ji, she did more Seva with humility.  She kept her head down all the time and served her Guru Father.  She did exactly what her father said and impressed him with her Seva.

9 km away from Goindwal, there was a village named Talwandi.  In that village lived a Khatri Sikh who limped as he walked.  He would bring yoghurt for Guru ji everyday.  He would feed the yoghurt to Guru ji.  He did it for a long time and came everyday.  He came even if it rained a lot.  One of his legs was broken.  He had made a wooden walker for the broken leg.  He would place his leg on the wooden walker and walk to Goindwal everyday.  He would come even in the winter.  One day, as he was walking towards Goindwal with the yoghurt, he met the Chaudhary of his village along the way.  The Chaudhary grabbed the Khatri and made fun of him.  The Chaudhary took the Sikh’s wooden walker and said: “you go to your Guru with love everyday and take yoghurt for him.  Why didn’t your Guru fix your leg yet?  You’ve been serving him for many years.  Your effort is useless.  You limp and drag your leg on top of this walker everyday for 9 km, what use is this?  You go in the morning and come back in the evening just to give the Guru, yoghurt.  It’s surprising that your Guru didn’t notice you.  He hasn’t relieved your pain.  The Guru gave life to many who died.  His power is illuminating in the world, why hasn’t he blessed you?”  The Khatri said: “please don’t waste my time.  Guru ji is waiting for me.  I must go and give him the yoghurt.  My Satguru does not care about the world.  He blesses when he pleases.  Sikhs are to accept the will of the Guru.  Guru ji can do what he wants to, in an instant.  I will be, as he wishes.  We should stay happy with Akaal Purakh’s will.  The Guru knows what’s best for me.  He will do what is best for me.”  The Khatri took back his wooden walker and continued on his way.  The Chaudhary wasted about 15 mins of the Sikh’s time.  He hurried to Goindwal.

In Goindwal, it was time for Langer.  Guru ji came from Chabarra Sahib and went to the Langar Hall.  Guru ji would take the Khatri Sikh’s yoghurt and mix it with the Ogra everyday.  On this particular day, the Sikh was late, due to the Chaudhary bullying him.  Bhai Bhalloo ji placed Guru ji’s plate in front of him.  The Sangat sat and had their food ready.  Guru ji sat in his place but did not eat.  The Sangat waited for Guru ji to eat and did not eat anything either.  Bhai Bhalloo ji was asked by the Sangat: “why hasn’t Guru ji begun to eat his food?  The Sangat is sitting and waiting for Guru ji to begin.”  Bhai Bhalloo asked Guru ji.  Guru ji said: “I will not eat till my Sikh comes.  He has been stopped by the Chaudhary, that is why he hasn’t come yet.  The Chaudhary is teasing and bullying my Sikh.”  As Guru ji spoke, the Sikh finally arrived and came to the Langar hall.  He presented the yoghurt to Guru ji and bowed his head.  Satguru ji took the yoghurt and ate it.  The rest of the Sangat then ate as well and were satiated.  They ate and drank water.  Guru ji wanted to solidify the Sikh’s faith and asked him: “tell me oh Sikh, why were you late today?  You came after meal time today.”  The Sikh folded his hands and said: “Guru ji, you know everything.  The Chaudhary stopped me today and laughed at me.  He bullied me and said “you take yoghurt for your Guru everyday, why hasn’t he fixed your leg yet?  You have been going for many years.  What’s the use of your effort?”  Guru ji, he took my walker and wouldn’t give it back.  I asked him many times but he wouldn’t give it.  When he finally gave it back, I came straight to you.”  Guru ji heard his words and said: “this thing didn’t cross my mind before.  Go to Shah Hussain (a Fakir in Goindwal) and get your leg fixed.  When you see him with love, he will fix your leg right away.”

The Sikh obeyed and went to Shah Hussain.  Shah Hussain’s nature was as such, that if anyone would come to meet him, he would hit them with a stick and make them run away.  He liked to stay alone and meditate.  As the Sikh came close to Shah Hussain, Shah Hussain didn’t say anything to the Sikh.  He had the Sikh sit down next to him and asked him who he was and why he was there.  The Sikh bowed and told him everything.  He was sitting with his hands folded.  Shah Hussain listened and understood what he needed to do.  He grabbed a thick stick and began to hit the Sikh.  He scolded him and told him to get out of there.  The Sikh got scared and got up to run away.  As he turned and ran away, the broken leg was fixed and he was able to run away.  Guru ji wanted to give the Fakir praises for fixing Bhai Langaah’s leg.  The Sikh was amazed that his leg was ok again.  He went back to the Fakir and grabbed his feet.  He said to him: “Fakir ji, you fixed my leg.  You are great.  Guru ji sent me to you, and you fixed my leg.”  Shah Hussain responded: “oh Sikh, you are forgetting that the doer is someone else.  Sri Guru Amardas ji is the master of the universe.  He does the work but he gives me the praise.  Go to the feet of Guru ji and serve him.  Don’t ever doubt him.  He fixed your leg.  Bow to him for me too.  I am his servant as well.  Only have faith in the Satguru.  There are many servants of the Guru, like me.”  Everyone was amazed to see how Guru ji fixed the Sikh’s leg.  The glory of the Guru could not be fully understood.

When the Khatri came back to Guru ji, Guru ji looked at him and was really happy.  Guru ji rewards all his servants for doing Seva.  Guru ji loves his Sikhs like a cow loves its calf.  Guru ji gives Sikhs Aatam gyaan.  Guru ji’s glory spread far and wide.  Fakirs and Saints saw how his glory spread.  Saints, Sadhoos, Bairagis, and Jattis came to see Guru ji.  They would receive Gyaan when they came.

One day, the Sangat was sitting with Guru ji at his feet.  A lot of Sangat came.  Baba Bhudda ji and other senior Sikhs were sitting there as well.  Baba Bhudda ji felt what the Sangat was thinking.  Baba ji asked Guru ji: “Guru ji, what is the Rehit of Sikhi?  How should a Sikh live?  Please tell us how a Sikh should live and receive moksha, and not drown in this world.”  Guru ji said from his moon-like face, in the most loving way: “whatever the Guru says, the Sikh should listen to, without doubt.  That Sikh, in whose heart Gurbani resides, is dear to me.  A Sikh should wake up in the last watch of the night (3 am).  Then, a Sikh should take a bath and sit down alone.  The Sikh should think of my form and think about Gurbani in their heart (recite Gurbani and listen to Asa Di Vaar).  The mind should be made still, and controlled from wandering.  The Sikh should do Simran of the Name till the Sun comes up.  The Sikh should work according to their Dharma and serve the Saints.  A Sikh should not desire other women (or other men) and other wealth or try to obtain these.  Slandering and lies should never be spoken.  Do not speak harshly to anyone.  A Sikh should feel other’s pain and happiness and consider it as their own.  A Sikh should only eat when hungry and not overeat; not lay down unless sleepy.  If one sleeps more than required, their age decreases; if one overeats, they become ill.  Simran of Satnam will become hard then.  A Sikh should do Simran in every breath.  A Sikh should live and accept the will of Parmeshwar and never blame Akaal Purakh for anything.  Everything that happens is to be believed as the best result.  One should not be proud of their body or caste.  Renounce your ego, desire, anger and greed.  Be content with what you have and not get caught up in profit or loss.  After doing a good deed, don’t look for praises.  When a person does a good act and shows off, the reward decreases.  A Sikh should never let go of Simran, donations and cleansing of the mind and body.  A Sikh should love these three things.  A Sikh should never listen to bad words directed towards Hari Guru.  Either run away from that place or punish the slanderer.  A Sikh should reject jealousy, fraud and the desire of material things.  The best thing to do is Simran.  A Sikh should always think about completing his/her life’s mission of reaching moksha.  A Sikh should not indulge in ways to obtain the pleasures of the world.  Do the Seva of the Guru and the Simran of Hari.  This is the best.  A wise person never stops Seva and Simran.  Stay connected to the Satsangat.  Love Gurbani with your heart.  When you recite or listen to Gurbani and it is perceived as sweet, then consider yourself on your way to being blessed.  Listen to the words of the Guru and follow it (earn it).”  Guru ji gave wisdom to the Sikhs.  The Sikhs heard it with devotion.  The Sikhs were given peace in this way by Guru ji’s wisdom.  They engrained the Guru’s wisdom in their hearts and their focus became instilled in the True Name.

1-65 Bibi Bhaani ji and Sri Guru Arjan Dev ji Receive a Blessing

Just as the sky is evidently seen to exist, so is the Satguru known to reside in every heart.  Whoever understands this, they are blessed by the Guru.  One day, Guru ji was in the Langar Hall and had his unsalted Ogra.  He drank water after and was fully satiated.  The Sikhs were all with him.  Langar was made that had all 6 types of tastes.  The Satsangat ate the Langar and had Kheer that was made with rice, sugar and ghee.  Many types of other foods were made, that were delicious.  They had many types of spices in them.  Whole wheat rotis were made that were light and fluffy.  Many types of dishes were ready.  Baba Bhudda ji saw this and said: “oh gracious Satguru, many types of delicious foods have been made.  The whole Sangat eats this delicious food and you eat a plain, unsalted Ogra.  This is not a good thing.  The food that you eat, that is what the Sangat should eat.  This is the best tradition for the Sikhs.  This is a wish of mine.  I wanted to say this to you for a long time.  Today I got the chance, so I said it.”  Guru ji was happy with Baba Bhudda ji and responded: “there is no difference between the Gurmukh Sangat and I.  I am one with the Sangat.  When the Sangat is happy, I am happy; when the Sangat is in pain, I am in pain.  When the Sangat eats delicious food, I can taste it.”  Guru ji had eaten his food and gargled.  Guru ji said: “look, all the tastes of the Langar have gone into my mouth.”  When the Sangat looked at the water that Guru ji spat out, they could see remnants of different dishes made in the Langar.  Residue from Kheer was seen along with the other dishes.  The Guru lives in all the Sikhs.  The Guru gives food to the Sangat but eats through the perception of the Sangat.  Guru ji showed everyone that he had all the food that the Sangat ate.  Satguru ji then spoke as he showed everyone his teeth that had other food particles: “my beloved Bhudda, you are very wise, understand what I have just shown to you.  The Langar that the Sangat eats with love, that Langar reaches me.  There is no one else in the Sangat besides me.  Consider both as one in the same.”  Baba Bhudda ji heard this and was really happy.  He placed his head on top of Guru ji’s feet and sang his praises.

The Sangat was growing by the day.  The Sikhs were getting wiser and wiser.  The traditions of Sikhi were established and the vices were washed away along with the desires.  Satguru ji would never break his Nitnem and wake up at 2 am everyday.  He would clean his teeth and take a bath.  He would sit down in solitude and sit in samadhi.  He would focus his attention in his real form, the Aatma and immerse in bliss.  He would sit still like this till the sun would come up, in his Anand Saroop.  After the sun would come up, the court would be in session.  The Sikhs would come to see Guru ji and be in bliss.  The Rababis would sing Shabad Gurbani.  Guru ji and the Sangat would listen with love.  The Devan would continue for many hours and everyone would enjoy it.  Guru ji would then go to the Chabarra Sahib and stand there, holding on to a peg and meditate.  Everyone would come to see him there from the outside.  He would do a lot of Tapasya.  The person seeing this would be inspired to do tapp.  Their heads would bow, just looking at Guru ji’s determination in doing Simran.  Langar would be ready and then Guru ji would sit in the Sangat and eat.

One day, Guru ji woke up at Amritvela to take a bath.  Bibi Bhaani ji came to see her father-Guru.  She was the form of Bhagti and loved to do Simran Bhagti.  Her relation to the Satguru was the deepest within Sikhi: she was the daughter of the Guru.  Her husband also became the Guru as well as her son and grandson.  Guru Amardas ji sat on top of his stool to take a bath.  Guru ji sat in Samadhi, cross-legged.  Both of his eyes were closed and his attention was connected to his real self.  He had gathered his attention and focused it on to Parmeshwar.  He looked like Shivji, sitting in deep meditation.  One of the legs of the stool was broken.  Bibi Bhaani ji noticed that one of the legs was broken and may cause Guru ji to fall off.  Bibi Bhaani ji thought to herself quickly: “when Pithaji moves to this side, the stool will tip over and Guru ji’s Samadhi would break.  The Samadhi that Jogis and Sadhoos work really hard for, shouldn’t break.  Guru ji’s Samadhi shouldn’t break.  There is nothing else I can stick underneath the stool.”  Bibi ji looked around for something, but there was nothing there.  There was nothing for support.  She put her hand underneath the stool to keep it steady.  It indeed was stable and the stool stopped rocking.  Satguru ji was on top and his weight was quite a bit for Bibi ji’s hand.  Her hand began to hurt but she kept her hand there.  She sat there with patience.  The broken piece of the stool kept on going into her hand, deeper and deeper but she didn’t take her hand away.  The task that the strongest men couldn’t do, Bibi Bhaani ji was doing that painful task.  She was doing a great Tapasya.  She stayed like this till the sun came up.  She sat still like a statue.  Her patience was unmatched.  She had no focus on her body.  Her arm became numb.  Blood got stuck in her arm and went red and blue.  When Guru ji opened his eyes, he saw his daughter sitting next to him.  He saw her arm which was red and swollen.  Satguru ji knew everything but still asked: “my daughter, why are you sitting like this?  Why are you taking so much pain?  Why is your hand under the stool?”  The fortunate Bibi Bhaani spoke: “Pithaji, the leg of the stool is broken.  I figured your Samadhi would have broken if the stool tipped over.  I looked around to find something to give the stool some support with but couldn’t find anything.  So, I put my hand underneath.  I didn’t want your focus to break.  I kept the balance of the stool and put my hand there.”  Satguru ji got off his stool and took her hand out from underneath.  There was an imprint of the stool leg on her palm.  Guru ji said: “how did you tolerate so much pain?”  Bibi ji said: “Pitaji, I am not wise enough to know how to do your Seva.  I think about doing your Seva, day and night, but I don’t know how to do your Seva.  You are the form of Parmeshwar.  My eyes are blessed to see you.  Blessed are those hands that do your Seva; that heart is blessed in which you live.  Blessed are those feet that come to see you.  Those who do your Seva, those fortunate people’s whole body is blessed.”  Guru ji heard his daughter’s words and noticed her painful act.  It was really hard what she had done.  Guru ji was really happy and gave her a boon: “your family will grow.  Great saints will be born in your house.  You will be worshipped by the world.  You will grow like the moon on the second day of the new moon.  Your happiness and bliss will grow.  Whoever worships your children, they will be fortunate.  Your children will be very powerful.  They will destroy sinners with weapons and will be radiant in the world.  They will establish the ultimate Dharam of Meeree and Peeree (temporal and spiritual power).  They will change the traditions.  There will be Jaikaras to their names in Kaliyuga and they will bless thousands.  The Sodhi family will be praised.  You have achieved all this with your Bhagti.  In past, present or future, there is no other woman like you.  Your father is the Guru, your husband will by the Guru of the world, your son will be the Guru and your grandson will be the Guru.  Your praises cannot be sung.  No one else can match you.”  Sri Guru Amar ji was really happy, the gracious one.  He gave her many boons.  Bibi Bhaani ji folded her hands and bowed to her father.  She was indeed the most fortunate woman to have ever lived.  She knew her father spoke the truth and remembered his words.  She was happy that her husband and children would be the next Gurus.

Bibi Bhaani ji returned to her home.  She received the highest status from her father.  Guru Amardas ji always listens to the Bhagats.  He is omniscient and can give gifts that are otherwise impossible for anyone else to give.

One day, the child, Guru Arjan Dev ji was playing in and around Chabarra Sahib.  None of the kids were allowed to go where Guru ji stayed.  All the kids already knew this: “no one without a beard may come.”  Guru ji told everyone to keep the kids away when he was in Samadhi.  Guru Arjan Dev ji casually came to Chabarra Sahib as he was playing.  He crossed the threshold and came in.  Instead of his parents’ room, he came to Guru Amardas ji’s room.  He came close to the bed, where Guru Amardas ji was resting.  No other Sevadaar was close by.  Bibi Bhaani ji saw her son go to Guru ji’s room and ran after him.  She was scared as she ran.  Guru Arjan Dev ji was playing in the dirt and so there was dirt on his clothes.  Guru Arjan Dev ji grabbed the side of the bed and pulled himself up to stand upright.  Bibi Bhaani ji came over to grab her son but Guru Amardas ji saw and spoke: “don’t take him.  Leave him standing here.”  Guru Amardas ji grabbed Guru Arjan Dev ji and picked hm up.  He bounced him to check his weight and noticed that he was heavy.  He said: “the weight of his power in the world will be heavy.  He will be a great Guru.  He will be the “Bani Ko Bohat Bhad Hvai Hai” (he will be a big ship for Gurbani).  “Dohita, Bani Ka Bohita” (the grandson will be the ship for Gurbani).”  Sri Guru Arjan Dev ji tried to come on to the bed by lifting his feet.  Guru ji saw this and said: “you want to sit here right now?  You will get this throne from your father.  Be patient till then.”  Guru ji laughed.  Bibi Bhaani ji heard her father’s words and was happy to be so blessed.  She took her son and put his forehead to Guru Amardas ji’s feet.  She then picked up the baby Guru Arjan Dev ji and went to her home.  She raised her three sons.  She served her father with love.  In the same way, Guru Ramdas ji did Seva all day and night.
