1-6 Baba Sri Chand and Baba Lakhmi Chand

Bhai Ram Koer ji listened to the request of the Khalsa and did a great service to everyone.  He dictated the history of the nine Gurus.  Bhai Ram Koer ji focused on the feet of the Gurus and started to speak the great history of the Gurus.  Reading and listening of this history makes the heart pure; and the four gifts of life (Dharam- duty, Arth- subsistence, Kaam- desire, Moksha- salvation) are granted.  There is no end to what one receives by listening to this history.  The most difficult gift to receive is Sikhi.  Sikhi is achieved by listening to this history.  The listeners sat down with full attention and focus.

Bhai Ram Koer ji speaks.

Kaliyuga has four parts.  We are now in the first part.  Kaliyuga is only 5000 years old.  Kaliyuga will be 432,000 years long.  In the first part, the sin in the world grew.  Many religions were established due to difference of opinions.  Within the religions, many sects came to be.  Nobody would listen to each other.  Nobody would meditate on the True Name, Satnam.  Many ideologies arose in the world.  Whoever gained a few grains of wisdom, they started their own religion.  They did not recognize Parmeshwar (Akaal Purakh).  They would advise the opposite of Parmeshwar’s ways.  In the previous Yugas, people did Tapp (severe penance) and Yagnas (Vedic ceremonies) and achieved Brahmgyaan.  In Kaliyuga, human beings do not have that level of power or strength.  How were the people to achieve mukti?  Karta Purakh (Akaal Purakh- the doer) then recognized the pain of the people and decided: that the True Name, Satnam, Kirtan was the only way for people to achieve mukti.  There was no other way, Karta Purakh had to come as an incarnation to guide humanity.  In other times, another being was sent to guide humanity or save them from trouble.  Now, it was different, Akaal Purakh had to come.  Parmeshwar became Guru Nanak and came to Mehta Kaloo’s home.  Parmeshwar came through the womb of Mata Tripta ji.  Mata Tripta ji was very happy with her son.  At a young age, Guru Nanak Dev ji Parameshver was beautiful and intelligent.  He gave wisdom to many at a young age: “the Simran of Satnam will slowly kill the ego.  One will be become the same as Akaal Purakh.  Accept the will of Akaal Purakh.  Be happy with whatever Akaal Purakh does and has decided for you.”  This was the core teaching of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  He destroyed the pain of many people in the world with this wisdom.

The daughter of Mool Chand was fortunate, who was the wife of the Guru.  Her name was Mata Sulakshana Devi, known as Mata Sulakhani ji.  Guru ji had two knowledgeable sons, who were Brahmgyaanis.  The elder was Baba Sri Chand ji who did not marry.  He was a celibate his whole life and rejected the householder’s life.  He was always connected to Akaal Purakh.  He was in a single state of mind all the time: without pain and pleasure; joy or sorrow.  Vices did not come near him.  He was like Bheesham Pitamah (from the Mahabharat epic) and a true celibate.  Baba Lakhmi Das ji was the younger brother.  He married and had a child.  He was equal to his brother with regards to knowledge and Brahmgyaan.  Both sons of Guru Nanak Dev ji were powerful beyond limits.  Baba Dharam Chand was Lakhmi Das’ son; from which the Bedi family spread.

One day, Baba Lakhmi Das ji went hunting.  He killed many rabbits and hung them by his horse.  When he came home, his brother Baba Sri Chand was seated in front of the house.  Baba Sri Chand ji said to his brother: “day and night you kill many beings.  You will have to give your account for this.”  Baba Lakhmi Das did not take his brother’s words well.  Baba Lakhmi Das ji said: “I can give you the account right now.”  As Baba Lakhmi Das ji was equally powerful, he went home and told his wife: “my brother’s words have been said.  I am to give my account right now.  We are all leaving the world.”  Baba Lakhmi Das ji took has wife and child, and mounted his horse.  He bid farewell to his brother.  Baba Sri Chand ji heard him and started to think: “I should grab Dharam Chand as I do not have children and the family would finish if Dharam Chand goes.”  Baba Sri Chand ji extended his arm 9 Yojanas (115 km) and grabbed Dharam Chand ji.  Baba Sri Chand ji raised Baba Dharma Chand ji as his parents went to Sach Khand.  Baba Dharam Chand had two sons Mehar Chand and Manak Chand.  The Bedis were like swans.  Baba Sri Chand ji live to about 125 years of age.  He stayed in this world for a long time and stayed in the Jog state, connected to Akaal Purakh.  Worldly desires did not tempt Baba Sri Chand ji.

When Jahangir was the Emperor, he heard of the glory of Baba Sri Chand ji from the mouth of Sai Mia Meer.  He wanted to meet Baba ji and sent his officers to ask Baba ji to come to Lahore.  The Emperor wanted to see miracles.  Baba ji’s heart was full of miracles.  Baba ji had a servant named Bhai Godharia.  Baba ji would ride the back of Bhai Godharia via piggyback if he needed to travel.  This was the way of Brahmgyaanis: different and unique from the world.  It would put people in awe to see two seniors travelling this way: one on the back of the other.  Baba ji would always stay in one state.  Baba ji jumped on Bhai Godharia’s back and reached Lahore.  They stayed one day on the outskirts of Lahore.  The Emperor had a high seat set up in his court, higher than his own throne.  Baba ji reached the court on Bhai Godharia’s back.  When the Emperor saw that Baba ji had come, he got up and bowed to him with his hands folded.  The Emperor could not take the radiance of Babaji’s forehead.  Baba ji took off his shawl and placed it where the emperor could see it.  He was very old then at the age of 112.  This was about 2 years after Guru Arjan Dev ji was martyred.  Baba ji was seated on the seat that the emperor had set up for him and asked him questions.  Baba ji answered his questions.  As the emperor spoke, he saw the shawl of Baba ji and saw that it was shivering.  The shawl would move around, up and down.  It would scrunch up sometimes and then lay out flat.  It seemed as though someone was in it.  It would stretch out sometimes, as if it was in pain.  The emperor was amazed to see this.  He then forgot what he was saying and said: “Baba ji, what is under that shawl and why is it moving around?”  Baba Sri Chand ji said: “Badshah, don’t be concerned with the ways of Saints.  Ask me your questions and mind your own business.  You won’t be able to understand saints and Fakirs.  Don’t test saints.  Fakirs do as they please.  Fakirs and Saints are always in the presence of Akaal Purakh.”  Jahangir spoke again: “please tell me what is this.  I am concerned what is inside the shawl.  It looks like it’s shivering.  Is something suffering?”  Baba Sri Chand ji then told the shawl to reveille itself.  The shawl showed its power.  In reality, Baba Sri Chand ji had a fever when he came.  He decided to leave his fever with the shawl so that he may speak to the emperor in peace.  The shawl came close to the Emperor and the Emperor then became sick with a fever.  He began to shiver and his mouth became dry.  His eyes went red and his hair went stiff.  His head began to ache, as well as his body.  He fell to the ground and folded his hands.  He said: “I do not wish to see this.  I am in great pain.  I will die otherwise.  You are very powerful.  I am sorry to test you.”  Baba Sri Chand ji heard his plea and said: “ok come back.”  The shivering came back to the shawl and it began to shiver.  Baba ji said to Jahangir, “I was sick, I left the fever in my shawl.  This is my karma, which you were so nosy to see.  I came in this manner to speak to you and left my illness.  I will take this illness and complete my karma that I am to suffer.”  Jahangir was very surprised.  He said: “Baba ji, if you can control the fever, why do you suffer with it?”  Baba ji said: “this was my father’s message.  We are not show our powers and to accept the will of Akaal Purakh.  Guru Arjan Dev ji was powerful and could have blown your kingdom.  He accepted the will and sat on the hot plate.”  Jahangir then realised his mistake and asked for forgiveness.  Jahangir wanted to give Baba ji gifts but Babaji did not accept anything.  Baba ji took the fever on top of him and removed the doubts of the emperor.

Baba ji was always immersed in to the light of Akaal Purakh.  Bibi Bhani ji would prepare food for Baba Sri Chand ji.  Baba Sri Chand ji was the first to take a dip into the Amritsar Sarovar, after it’s completion.  Baba ji lived till the time of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib ji.  Baba Gurditta ji, the eldest son of Guru Hargobind Sahib ji bowed to Baba Sri Chand ji and became his student.  Baba Sri Chand ji took his Saili topi (hat) and gave it to Baba Gurditta ji and made him his heir of his position amongst the Udaaseen Samprada.  Baba Gurditta was very powerful, serving Baba Sri Chand ji.  Baba Gurditta ji had all the powers of Baba Sri Chand ji.  Baba Gurditta ji had 4 students who did a strict tapp and became Brahmgyaanis.  The 4 students spread the Samprada further.  Baloo Hasana, Phool Sahib, Goonda Sahib and Almast ji, these were the leaders of the Udaasis.  The Udaasis had thousands of students that spread the message of Sikhi far and wide.  They were great Tapasvis.  From the Udaasi lineage: Baba Santokh Das ji and Baba Preetam Das ji Udaasi did the construction of a water line called Hansli: that would connect to the Ravi.  It was a covered line with bricks.  The water was fresh, coming straight from the Ravi to the Amritsar Sarovar.  Baba Sri Chand ji started this Samprada known as the Udaasi Samprada.  These were the sons of Guru Nanak Dev ji: the Udaasis and the Bedi lineage.  Kavi Santokh Singh ji bows to their feet.

1-7 Guru Lineage

1526 Vikram Samvat (1469 AD), Guru ji was born to Mata Tripta ji and Pitha Mehta Kaloo ji.  He stayed in this world for 70 years.  1596 Vikram Samvat (1539 AD) was the year Guru ji’s body transferred to the light of Akaal Purakh in Kartarpur Sahib.  The sins of Kaliyuga were causing immense pain to all.  Guru Nanak Dev ji cooled the world like a full moon.  No one was able to win Guru ji.  After being so powerful, he was extremely humble.  Many great saints all bowed in front of Guru Nanak Dev ji, as Guru ji connected them to Akaal Purakh.  Many great saints’ radiance became dull in front of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  1596 Asoo, 10th Vaddi (10 days from the full moon) Guru ji went to Sach Khand, near the Airavati Ravi River.   This was in Kartarpur.  His body was not found, as Guru ji went to Sach Khand with his body.  One half of his covering blanket was cremated by Hindus and the other half was buried by the Muslims.  Dera Baba Nanak is the name of the Gurduara that was constructed there.  The Jageer (regional tax revenue) of the area was allotted to the Langar of the Gurduara by Maharaja Ranjit Singh.

Guru Angad Dev ji was chosen by Guru Nanak Dev ji as his successor.  Just as a King changes his clothes, so did he change his body.  Guru Angad Dev ji was from the Trehan clan.  He was the son of Baba Pheroo Mal ji.  Baba Pheroo Mal was a holy man and a devout person.  Guru Angad Dev ji’s mother was Bibi Daya Kaur ji.  They had no sins from many births.  They lived in the village of Hari.  They did the Simran of Akaal Purakh, day and night.  Guru Angad Dev ji was born in the Hari Gram, Mattay ki Saran, Naangay ki Saran.  After that, he lived somewhere else.  1577 Vikram was when Guru ji was born.  He came to the home of Guru Nanak Dev ji and served him, day and night.  He wished to “play the game of love and placed his head on top of his palm.”  He gave his mind to the Guru.  He lived up to the words of Guru Nanak Dev ji, fully.  Guru Angad Dev ji became one with Guru Nanak Dev ji.  Guru Angad Dev ji had patience, just like the earth, and did not show his powers.  He was all-powerful; and saw peace and pain as the same.  Nobody could describe the glories of Guru Angad Dev ji.  Shaishnaag (who has 1000 mouths and 2000 tongues) could not fully sing the glories of Guru Angad Dev ji.  Sarasvati could not sing his glories either.  Guru Angad Dev ji was married to Mata Kheevi ji, the pure.  Guru ji had two sons and two daughters: Baba Dasu ji and Baba Dattu ji were the two sons; Bibi Amro ji and Bibi Anokhi ji were the two daughters .  All of the children were Brahmgyaanis.  Guru ji sat on the Guru throne for 12 year, 6 months and 9 days.  In 1609 Vikram, Jeth Sudhi 4th (4th day from new moon), Guru ji left his body for Sach Khand, and placed Guru Amar Das ji on to the Takhat of the Guru.  The cremation took place in Khadoor village near the house of Julaha.  Julaha requested to have the cremation in his house so he can make a Gurduara there.  Julaha was the same person whose wife called Guru Amar Das ji “Amaroo Nithava (the homeless)” and lost her mind.  Julaha then asked Guru ji for forgiveness for his wife.  The Kraeer tree that touched Guru Amar Das ji is still green today.

In the village Baasarke, in the house of Tejo Mal Bhalla and Roop Kaur, Guru Amar Das ji was born.  His parents were great Tapasvis from many births.  They received the gift of a son who became Guru Amar Das ji.  He achieved Brahmgyaan by serving Guru Angad Dev ji for 12 years.  He became an idol of service.  He was 60 when he came to the service of the Guru.  His mind remained in his control.  He was 72 years old when he sat on to the throne of the Guru.  The Guru visited the world in his body.  He sat on the throne for 22 years.  He established the village of Goindwal and lived there.  He made sure that nobody’s child died while he was in his body.  The Emperor of Delhi had 22 Soobas for the 22 regions of the kingdom.  Guru Amar Das ji established 22 seats of Masands to preach Sikhi in each Sooba.  The glory of Guru Amar Das ji cannot be sung.  He was a water-filled cloud that hydrated the entire land.  His wife was Mata Ramo ji, who was a pious woman.  They had 2 sons and 2 daughters.  The 2 sons were Baba Mohan ji and Baba Mohri ji.  The 2 daughters were Bibi Dhani ji and Bibi Bhani ji.  The children were great souls.  Bibi Bhani ji was with great fortune.  Her father was the Guru; her husband was the next Guru; her son was also the Guru and then the lineage carried from there.  Her glory is sung around the world.  Baba Mohan ji was the elder son, whose mind was detached from all desires.  He would wear a langote around his waist.  His head and back would be bare.  He remained engrossed in to the light of Akaal Purakh and did not think of the world.  He would eat sometimes and pick up a roti like a child.  He was totally detached from the world and preferred to stay alone in his chabarra.  He did not bow to anyone except his father.  He did not bow to Guru Ramdas ji, as instructed to by his father, but he bowed did Guru Arjan Dev ji.  He was in the state of “ahung Braham,” he saw his soul as one with Akaal Purakh.  Baba Mohri ji accepted the successorship of Guru Ramdas ji.  He listened to his father’s command and placed his head on to the feet of Guru Ramdas ji, despite being older than him.  Mohri ji became the leader of the Sangat to help them cross the world ocean.  For 22 years, 5 months and 11 days, Guru Amar Das ji sat on the Guruship throne and gave many Sikhs, Brahmgyaan.  In 1631 Vikram, Bhadron, full moon day, Guru ji left the Earth for Sach Khand from Goindwal.  He blessed many sinners.  He was 95 years old when he left his body.  He had 6 years left but he gave them to his servant: Guru Ramdas ji, along with the Guruship.  Guru Ramdas ji was seated upon the Guru’s throne.

Baba Hardas ji Khatri from Lavpur (Lahore) was a pious person with great karma.  Mata Khem Kaur ji was his wife.  She was also a very pious and honest person.  She saw her husband as Akaal Purakh.  They had a son: Guru Ramdas Ji- who was married to Bibi Bhani ji and from whom the Sodhi family grew.  Guru Ramdas ji became the gem for the Bhalla family.  Bibi Bhani ji served her father and her husband as the Gurus in Goindwal.  She spent her whole life in seva and Simran.  Guru Ramdas ji and Mata Bhani ji had three sons: Prithi Chand, Baba Mahadev and Sri Guru Arjan Dev ji.  All three sons were famous for their virtues.  Mahadev ji was patient.  Guru Ramdas ji saw Guru Arjan Dev ji as the successor.  For 6 years, 11 months and 18 days he sat on the Guru throne.  Many Sikhs received many blessings from Guru Ramdas ji.  Many Sikhs received Brahmgyaan from him.  1638 Vikram (1581 AD), Bhadron Sudhi 3rd (3rd day from the new moon) was when Guru Ramdas ji left his body and departed for Sach Khand.  Guru Arjan Dev ji was installed as the next Guru.  The Sodhi clan was blessed by Guru Amar Das ji, at Mata Bhani ji’s request, to be the next Gurus till the physical linage of Gurus was to end.  It stayed till the 10th Guru.

When Guru Arjan Dev ji sat on the Guru’s throne, he completed the Amritsar (Sudhasur) Sarovar.  He also finished the construction of the Harimandhir.  He compiled the Guru Granth Sahib ji; by which many received Brahmgyaan.  Guru ji was married to Mata Ganga ji.  She was very simple and was a complete woman with all the virtues of a saint.  They had one son: Sri Hargobind, the carrier of the bow, who shone like the moon.  Guru Arjan Dev ji was very patient and was the flag of the Dharam.  His glory was sung all over the land.  He performed many great tasks (157,000 Rupees were spent to buy the land of Tarn Taaran Sahib, which had a pharmacy for the ill) established Kartarpur, Jalandhar; constructed many Gurduaras of Guru Nanak Dev ji’s places; served Langar all over Punjab.  He preached Simran and Sikhi from house to house.  He wrote many verses of Gurbani.  For 24 years, 9 months and 1 day Guru ji sat on the Guru’s throne with his body.  He was about 43 years in total and served two Gurus: 11 years Guru Amar Das ji and 7 years his father Guru Ramdas ji.  He arranged his own play to be martyred.  In 1663 Vikram, Jeth, Sudhi 4th (forth day from new moon), (1606 AD) Guru ji was martyred at the house of Chandu and went to Sach Khand.  Gurduara Dera Sahib is established in Lahore near the Ravi in his honor.

1-8 Guru Lineage part 2

Guru Hargobind ji was the Guru, next, who wore the Miri and Piri (worldly power and spiritual power).  He was born in Vadaali village.  He was very strong, even at a young age.  When he was an adult, there was no other person with his height and size.  He was the strongest man ever.  He was married three times: first to the daughter of Narayan Das ji named Mata Damodri ji; second, with Mata Mahadevi ji whose father was from the Marwaha clan; the third was Mata Nanaki ji, daughter of Hari Ram ji.  All three were in bliss and were connected to the Simran of Akaal Purakh.  Guru ji had five sons: Baba Gurditta ji, Baba Sooraj Mal ji, Baba Ani Rai ji, Baba Atal Rai ji and the fifth was Sri Guru Tegh Bahadhur ji.  Guru ji would have Guru Tegh Bahadhur ji sit close to him.  Guru Hargobind ji was a lion that killed many undefeated Turks.  Guru ji fulfilled the wishes of many Sikhs.  Guru ji’s glory spread throughout the land.  Guru ji sat on the Guru’s throne for 31 years, 10 months, and 6 days.  On 1695 Vikram, Chet Panchami Sudhi (5 days from new moon) Guru ji left for Sach Khand.  He placed Sri Guru Har Rai ji on to the Guru’s throne.

Sri Baba Gurditta ji was very handsome and married to the beautiful and pious Bibi Nayti ji (also known as Ananti or Nihal Kaur).  They had two sons: Dheermal and Sri Guru Har Rai ji.  The grandfather saw the younger grandson fit to be the Guru.  Guru Har Rai ji was born in Kiratpur.  He blessed many Sikhs.  He made kings out of beggars.  He was married 8 times: one was Mata Kot Kalyani ji from whom Baba Ram Rai was born; another was Mata Kishan Kaur ji, who gave birth to Sri Guru Har Krishan Sahib ji.  Mata Kishan Kaur ji was one of 7 sisters that was married to Guru Har Rai ji.  These 7 sisters were the princesses from Bulandhshehar, UP.  Their father was a king and a Sikh who wished to marry all of his 7 daughters to Guru Har Rai Sahib ji.  Aside from Mata Kishan Kaur ji, there was Mata Tokhi ji, Anokhi ji, Ram Kaur ji, Ladiki ji, Mata Prem Kumari ji, Mata Chand Kaur ji.  There were only two sons of Guru Har Rai Sahib ji.  Baba Ram Rai ji and Guru Harkrishan Sahib ji both were born in Kiratpur.  Both sons were very powerful.  For 23 years, 6 months and 14 days, Guru ji sat on the Guru’s throne.  Guru Har Rai Sahib ji removed the pain of his Sikhs.  In 1718 Vikram, Kathak Vaddi Naumi (9 days from full moon) Guru ji gave the Guruship to Guru Harkrishan Sahib ji, the child Guru, and left for Sach Khand.

Guru Harkrishan Sahib ji went to Delhi for the Sikhs and left this earth from there.  He sat on the Guru’s throne for 2 years, 5 months and 19 days.  In 1721 Vikram, Chet Sudhi 14 (14 days from new moon), Guru ji immersed into the light of Akaal Purakh.  At around 11 pm just before he left, Guru ji spoke: “The Baba is in Bakala.”  This was in reference to Guru Tegh Bahadhur ji as he was his “Baba” (granduncle).  He transferred the Guru throne to him as he left for Sach Khand.

The light of Guru Nanak Dev ji entered the body of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib ji.  He was the son of Sri Guru Hargobind ji and Mata Nanaki ji.  He was the moon of the Sodhi clan.  He was born in Amritsar.  He was married to Mata Gujri ji from Kartarpur, daughter of Baba Lal Chand ji and Mata Bishan Kaur ji.  Mata Gujri ji was the idol of Tapasya.  From their house was born the greatest warrior, complete in Degh and Tegh (in reference to charity and chivalry).  He was the master musician who wrote Gurbani in over 600 Raags.  He was a master poet to which no other poet could match.  He wore a Kalgi on his Dastaar.  He killed Turks and Hill Rajas.  Guru Tegh Bahadhur ji blessed many Sikhs.  For 10 year, 7 months and 21 days, he sat on the Guru’s throne.  When it was time to protect the country, culture and tradition, he sacrificed his head and made the Emperor of Delhi, guilty of his death.  He saved the Hindu religion by giving his head.  In 1732 Vikram, Maghar Sudhi Panchami (5th day from new moon), November 11, 1675 AD, Thursday, 11 am, Guru ji gave his head in Delhi’s Chandni Chownk.  By this great sacrifice, he became the King of Kings.  He left his body and went to Sach Khand.  The Devatas sang his glories “jai, jai, jai.”  A windstorm followed the sacrifice which chilled the hearts of the Mughals to their core.  A deep fear surrounded them and they said “hai, hai, hai.”  Everyone in Delhi cursed at the Emperor for doing such a heinous act.   The intelligent people understood that the Mughals’ rule was about to end.  Aurangzeb left Delhi the next night and could not sleep in his palace anymore.  He lost everything.  He committed a great sin and his Tapasya all finished.  He was now counted amongst the likes of Raavan.  Raavan kidnapped Sita and was killed by Ram Chander ji.  Raavan lost everything due to his ego.  Aurangzeb lost the Emperorship of many generations due to his deed.  The glory of the Moghuls mixed into dust.  His glory was compared to the Devatas at one time.  This was all gone.

After Sri Guru Tegh Bahadhur Sahib ji, Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji sat on the Guru’s throne.  His mother was Mata Gujri ji and he was born in Patna, Bihar.  When he was 5 years old, he came to Punjab (Madhur Desh).  He saw his land of Punjab and was very happy to be there.  He had three wives: Mata Ajeeto ji, the patient, was the first.  She had three great sons: Baba Jujhar Singh ji, Baba Zoravar Singh ji and Baba Fateh Singh ji.  Their radiance was very strong within the world.  The second wife was Mata Sundri ji, from whom Baba Ajit Singh ji was born.  She was intelligent, wise, and the treasure of Dharma.  She commanded the Khalsa forces for 40 years after Guru Gobind Singh ji left for Sach Khand.  She taught Kirtan and Gurbani Santhya to many great Gursikhs like Baba Jassa Singh Ahluwalia and other leaders.  She also arranged for their worldly education at the universities in Delhi.  Baba Ajeet Singh ji killed many warriors on the battlefield and closed his eyes on the battlefield.  Guru ji wrote the Gurbani: Akaal Ustat for his wives to read in order to give birth to the Sahibzadas.  Baba Ajeet Singh ji was born by this penance.  The third wife was Mata Sahib Devi from Rohtaas.  The Khalsa became her son after she wished to have children.  Thus were the three wives of Guru ji.  Guru ji fought 14 battles which were the fiercest in the history of humankind.  He did many tasks to pull the roots of the Mughals.  He gave birth to the Khalsa Panth, whose radiance is unmatched even till today.  For 32 years, 11 months, Guru ji preached the righteous path of Dharma.  He blessed many Sikhs and gave them the Kingdom of Earth and Sach Khand.  Whoever came to the sanctuary of Guru Gobind Singh ji, their pain was all gone.  In 1765 Vikram, Kathak Sudhi Panchami (5 days after new moon) Thursday, Guru ji left at 2 am and went to Sach Khand from Nanded, Abchalnagar.  The Gurduara was made their, which is radiant throughout the land.

When Sri Guru Har Rai ji sat on the Guru’s throne, Nauranga become the Emperor.  Nauranga killed his father, brothers, relatives and other saints.  His rule was strong and he took over all of India.  He was unmatched in the land.  He committed many sins before he sat on the throne.  Aurangzeb’s hands had the blood of many saints on them.  He converted millions of Hindus to Islam.  He began a conflict with the house of the Guru.

All of the Singhs listened to the words of Bhai Ram Koer ji.  They folded their hands and said: “please tell us the history of the 9 Gurus.  You know the history of the 9 Guru as you are a Brahmgyaani of the highest level.  Please explain to us what happened and why it all happened.  We want to hear every detail in the Guru’s life.”  Bhai Gurbaksh Singh ji (Ram Koer ji) heard their request and accepted it.  He then began to say the history of the 9 Gurus, as it happened.  The Khalsa Panth all sat down and began to listen.  The glory of the Gurus was said for the purpose of achieving Sikhi and peace.  Their wishes would be fulfilled by listening to this history.

1-9 The Life of Guru Angad Dev ji

All 10 of the Gurus were from the same blissful source, Akaal Purakh.  The light in the 10 Gurus was the same.  I bow to the feet of the Guru and begin the history of the Gurus.

Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji was the complete Avatar.  When Guru Angad Dev ji ascended to the Guru’s throne, his focus was concentrated onto the feet of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  Guru Nanak Dev ji began to reside inside the heart of Guru Angad Dev ji.  Guru Nanak Dev ji told Guru Angad Dev ji to leave from Kartarpur.  Guru Angad Dev ji asked Guru Nanak Dev ji if he may come back when Guru Nanak Dev ji would leave for Sach Khand.  Guru Nanak Dev ji said: “no, I will come to you.”  Guru Nanak Dev ji’s body was not found, in fact, he entered the heart of Guru Angad Dev ji.  Guru Angad Dev ji was sad to leave Kartarpur.  He touched the feet of Guru Nanak Dev ji and then touched his forehead.  He kept looking at Guru Nanak’s face, while shedding tears.  Guru Nanak Dev ji said: “why are you sad?  There is no difference between you and I.  I am always with you.”  Guru Angad Dev ji left Kartarpur with the love of the Guru in his heart.  He felt as though the body and soul had just separated.  He kept on repeating “Guru Nanak, Guru Nanak.”  He could not speak in front of Guru Nanak Dev ji and tell him that he didn’t want to go, as it was the Guru’s command.  It was the most difficult thing for him to do, to leave the Guru’s presence.  The only determination he was to follow, was to obey the command of the Guru.  He walked to his village of Khadoor.

As he came to his village, he thought: “my Guru is so great, his personality is great.  He is generous and complete.  He is generous towards the weak and poor.  When someone serves the Guru a little bit, the Guru gives many times more than they deserve.  The Guru only sees love.  Now he is going to Sach Khand and had given me the Guruship.  He sent me away from him and now I must suffer the pain of his separation.  I couldn’t tell the Guru that I didn’t want to leave.”  Guru ji was shedding tears and eventually reached Khadoor.  He didn’t notice anything on the way, as he was only thinking about the Guru.  People he met on the way, he didn’t notice and didn’t talk.  He came to the home of Mai Bhirai, his father’s sister.  Mai Bhirai was a devotee of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  She said to her nephew: “my son, Lehna, how is Guru Nanak Dev ji?  Tell me his stories.”  Mai Bhirai was the one that showed Bhai Lehna ji the path of Sikhi.  “Why have you left Guru Nanak Dev ji and come here?  You look depressed and you look like you were crying.”  Mai Bhirai kept asking, but Guru Angad Dev ji just took a deep breath.  Mai Bhirai got worried and noticed that Guru Angad Dev ji was suffering.  She thought to herself: “he is crying.  I hope Guru Nanak Dev ji hasn’t left the world.  It seems as though he has left the earth.  That is why he is depressed.  He is suffering from separation.”  She put her hand on his back and held his head, embracing it.  “Tell me what happened.  Why do you not speak?  Has Guru Nanak Dev ji left for Sach Khand?”  Guru Angad Dev ji then spoke: “I don’t like anything anymore.  I do not wish to speak to anyone.  I wish to stay in this room, alone.  I don’t wish to see anyone.  I feel like I have a deep wound whose pain I cannot tolerate.  When someone speaks to me, I feel like they are pressing on to my wound.  I do not wish see or listen to anything.  Please lock my door, seal it with bricks, and do not tell anyone I am in this room.  Please do this favor for me.  I will stay here.”  Mai Bhirai responded: “stay here, I’ll bring you food but don’t have it bricked.  I’ll keep it locked.  I cannot see you in pain and leave you alone.”  Guru Angad Dev ji did not say anything.  He closed both of his eyes and focused on to the form of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  It looked as though Shiva was sitting in his meditative pose.  Mai Bhirai figured: “it’s just best to do as he says as it is his command.”  She closed the door and had it bricked.  She had the bricks mortared with mud and no one knew who was inside the home.  The bricks for covered with mud so nobody could tell where the door was.  She followed the command of the Guru.  Guru Angad Dev ji remained in that room for 6 months.  He stayed in deep meditation.

In Kartarpur, Guru Nanak Dev ji’s body was no more.  Nobody knew where Guru Angad Dev ji was.  Baba Bhudda ji, Bhai Sadhaaran and other Sikhs got together for discussions: “we are all anxious to see the Guru.  We cannot live without Guru Nanak Dev ji.  Guru Nanak Dev ji said that he and Guru Angad Dev ji are one in the same.  Guru Angad Dev ji is not revealing himself.  We should go looking for him.  Guru ji told us to look at Guru Angad Dev ji and him as one.  If someone wishes to serve him, they should serve Guru Angad Dev ji.”  Baba Bhudda ji spoke: “Guru ji gave the Guruship to Guru Angad Dev ji and now he resides in his heart.  We should go find Guru Angad Dev ji.”  Some of the Sikhs began to look for him.  Everyone’s heart was anxious and they were eager to meet Guru Angad Dev ji.  After a while, when they couldn’t find Guru Angad Dev ji, they decided: “near Khadoor, there is a person by the name of Mai Bhirai.  She must know where Guru Angad Dev ji is.  There is no other way to find him.”  Baba Buddha ji and other senior Sikhs went to Khadoor, doing Kirtan along the way.  The Sangat followed.

They went to Mai Bhirai and met her.  They bowed to Mai Bhirai with love.  Mai Bhirai bowed to the Sikhs.  Baba Bhudda ji asked: “Mai Bhirai ji, where is Guru Angad Dev ji?  We wish to meet the Satguru.  So much Sangat has come.  They all wish to meet the Guru.  We wish to see the holy feet of Guru Angad Dev ji.”  Mai Bhirai listened to the pleas of the Sikhs but didn’t say anything.  She was under orders not to say anything.  She was stuck.  She sat down and stayed quiet.  The Sikhs all sat in the center courtyard, looking towards Mai Bhirai.  All the Sikhs understood that Guru Angad Dev ji was somewhere here.  They just wanted a hint.  They all requested her again: “Mai ji, please have pity on us.  We wish to see Guru Sahib.”  When Baba Bhudda ji, Bhai Sadhaaran asked a second time, Mai Bhirai stayed quiet again.  She didn’t want to violate the Guru’s commands.  All the Sikhs were analysing the situation.  They figured out that she was under strict orders by Guru Angad Dev ji and that she cannot say yes or no.  She didn’t want to lie to the Sikhs nor could she say the truth, as she was under strict orders not to.  Baba Bhudda ji and others figured Guru ji must be here.  There was a room, but no door to it.  Baba Bhudda ji knew where the Guru was but didn’t want to show his powers.  He got up to the wall that was covered with mortar and bowed to the wall.  He did an Ardaas to the wall: “my name is Bhudda and I have come to your court.  You have blessed me in the form of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  You said that I will always be able to recognize, and find you.  You said that I will always be close to the Sangat.  You said that whatever form you will take, I will be able to see you.  Since you have disappeared, I have been very anxious, along with the Sangat, without you.  You have come to this room and the patience of the Sangat has now broken.  They have no where else to go.  They keep looking for you, and are worried.  They couldn’t find you anywhere.  Please bless us with your presence by coming out of this room.  The Sangat wishes to serve you and listen to your holy words.”

Baba Bhudda ji then started to scrap the mortar with his hands and pulled the bricks off.  He found the door behind the bricks and opened it.  He saw Guru Angad Dev ji sitting in Tapasya.  The radiance illuminated out of the room.  It was like the sun came out.  It looked like Shiva was sitting in mediation.  Guru ji had closed off all his body’s senses and focused his mind on to Guru Nanak Dev ji.  His body and mind were still.  Baba Bhudda ji bowed at his feet.  The Sangat then came to bow.  Everyone was happy to see Guru Angad Dev ji but his Samadhi (deep state of meditation) was still intact.  Baba Bhudda ji came out of the room and said to Mai Bhirai: “please request Guru ji to come out of his Samadhi.  He is gracious to the weak and poor.  He will support us when he awakens.”  The whole Sangat requested Guru ji: “Guru ji, please meet us.  Please sit on the throne of the Guru and bless us all.  Your Avatar was for the purpose of saving the Sikhs.  Guru Nanak Dev ji has placed you on his seat, please fulfill your duty and save us.  Please guide us.  You came to this Earth to bless us.  The Sikhs wish to be saved in this world and in the next.  We are your servants, please give us your guidance and bless us with Simran.  Please visit us in the Sangat.”  Listening to the pleas of the Sangat, Guru Angad Dev ji opened his eyes.  He came under their love spell and let go of his personal task.  The Guru discards his personal goals and routine for the love of the Sangat.  Guru ji wanted to stay alone and stayed connected to Simran but he came out because of Baba Bhudda ji’s ardaas.  His body had gone skinny and weak.  As he came out, he was radiant.  He met all of the servants of Guru Nanak Dev ji and was pleased to see their love.  Guru Angad Dev ji was filled with love and spoke the first Salok of Gurbani that came to his holy mouth:

Sri Mukhvaak Mahalla 2 (from the holy mouth of Nanak II)

With whom you are in love with, it is better to die before them.  Living after the death of the loved one, is not living at all.2.

After speaking those words, Guru ji sat with the Sikhs.  The Sikhs that came to meet him, were now very happy to see the Guru.  They felt as though Guru Nanak Dev ji was in front of them.  Guru ji gave hope to the Sangat and asked them to do the Simran of Satnam.  Mai Bhirai ji prepared Langar in little time.  The Sikhs began to serve Guru Angad Dev ji.  The Sikhs who served Guru Nanak Dev ji then also came to meet Guru Angad Dev ji in Khadoor.

The news spread that Guru Angad Dev ji was found.  People began to come from far and wide hearing about Guru Angad Dev ji.  Guru ji would now sit on the throne.  As people would hear about Guru ji, they would come to see Guru ji.  They would see the radiance on his face and recognize Guru Nanak Dev ji in him.  Just as the sun moves into the next month (in the Sankranti calendar) so did the light of the Guru move into a new form.  Just as actors change roles in different plays, but remain the same actor, so did the body change but the light was the same.  When the sun comes up, the thieves run away and the lotus blooms.  The Sikhs bloomed and the sinners ran away.  The knowledge was transferred into the heats of the Sikhs by Guru ji.  Just as a great king comes to his court wearing new clothes, so did the same Guru wear a different body.  The court was set for the 2nd Guru Nanak.  Sikhs would serve and worship Guru ji.  The Sikhs only saw Guru Nanak Dev ji.  Just as a flame lights another diva, that is how another flame was formed.  Nothing has changed from the first flame and the second is exactly the same.  Everyone would come to Khadoor and listen to the Katha of Guru ji.  The fortunate Sikhs would come and listen to the Guru.  They remembered Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji everyday.  It was a very calm and peaceful environment full of bhakti.  Guru Angad Dev ji would remain engrossed into the Simran of Guru Nanak Dev ji.

Baba Bhudda ji would sit next to Guru Angad Dev ji and talk about Guru Nanak Dev ji.  He would ask Baba Bhudda ji: “tell me the life of Guru Nanak Dev ji.”  Baba Bhudda ji would tell him the stories.  Baba Bhudda ji then said: “There is this one person that can tell you the complete history of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  He is Balla of Talwandi.  He is a Jaat and spent his life with Guru ji.  He traveled the 9 dimensions with Guru ji.  He is still alive.  You can ask him the complete history.  Bhai Balla ji knows everything.”  As Baba Bhudda ji was speaking, Bhai Bhalla had arrived without notice.  He bowed to Guru Angad Dev ji.  Guru Angad Dev ji asked Bhai Bhalla to tell the Sangat the history of Guru Nanak Dev ji.

That history is bound into the Nanak Prakash Granth.  All of the Sikhs listened to the history from Bhai Bhalla’s mouth.  Bhai Bhalla spoke and Bhai Paira wrote it.  As Guru Angad Dev ji heard the history, he started to eat more food as the days went by.  The Sikhs that heard the history were very fortunate.  The Sikhs did Kirtan, read Gurbani and sat with Guru Angad Dev ji.  Guru ji would not speak to anyone much nor did he get close to anyone.  He was in a childlike state and was above sorrow or happiness.

1-10 Guru ji’s Daily Routine, Sikh, Humayun

Guru Angad Dev ji would speak the words and teachings of Guru Nanak Dev ji everyday.  The Sikhs would recite and listen to Gurbani; in doing so, they would cross the world ocean.  Guru Angad Dev ji would wake up at 2:30 am everyday.  He would relieve his bodily obligations and do his daattan (cleaning of teeth with meshwak) and then bathe with cold water.  He would then sit in meditation and turn inwards, towards his mind, the blissful light of Akaal Purakh.  He would go into nirvakalap Samadhi (where the conscience and Akaal Purakh are one).  When the sun would rise, Guru ji’s lotus eyes would open.  On whom his first sight would fall upon, their illness and pain would be gone.  It would be an immediate response.  If a person would be ill, they would come and sit in front Guru Sahib, to catch his first sights.  Lepers and other long-termly ill people would come.  When Guru ji would look at those people, their pain would be gone.  The knowledge of this was spread far and wide.  As a result, many ill people would come and stand waiting at Guru ji’s door.  Guru Angad Dev ji would relieve them of their sickness and pain.  The Sikhs would be cured and go home singing the glories of the Guru.

The Rababis would do Kirtan in Raags after Guru ji would open his eyes.  Guru ji would sit in Sangat and listen to Kirtan with great love.  He would be seated on his throne and Sikhs would come and visit him, and listen to Kirtan.  The history of Guru Nanak Dev ji would constantly be spoken in Sangat.  Guru Angad Dev ji would say the history of Guru Nanak Dev ji himself, with great enthusiasm.  All of the miracles that Guru Nanak Dev ji had done, Bhai Balla would say them in Sangat.  Other than Gurbani or the history of Guru Nanak Dev ji, no other worldly chatter or news would be talked about in the court of the Guru.  There was no wish for anyone to talk about the world.  Kirtan, Simran and Guru Nanak’s history is all what everyone would want to talk about.

When Langar would be ready, the Langri would come into Sangat and inform everyone.  “Guru ji, the Langar is ready,” would say, the Langri.  Guru ji would perform the closings of the Sangat and head to the Langar along with the Sangat and the Langri.  Baba Bhudda ji, Bhai Bhagirath ji and other Sikhs would all sit in the Pangat (lines of people sitting in the food hall) with all the other castes on the same, equal ground.  Prince, King or Pauper would all sit on the ground.  The dishes were made of heated clay.  Leaves (usually Banana leaves) were also used to eat Langar.  The people who wished to eat in a chaunka (eating in a traditional way, that was sectioned off for higher castes) would not come to Guru Sahib ji.  Guru ji would sit with everyone and eat.  The higher castes would not come for this purpose: that the lower castes would be sitting beside them while they eat.  Guru ji would give everyone the same food.  Kheer would be made by Mata Kheevi ji (wife of Guru Angad Dev ji).  After Guru ji would eat, he would wash his hands.  He would then call all the children in the village to him.  Guru ji was above happiness and sorrow.  Guru ji would play with the children.  The kids would be glad to play with Guru ji.  Guru ji would play kabaddi and other high intensity games with them.  He would also teach them to read and write the Gurmukhi lipi letters.  They would all play till about 2pm in the afternoon.  After 2 pm, Guru ji would call the wrestlers to him, to wrestle.  Many strong wrestlers would come and bow to Guru Sahib and then exercise and have wrestling matches.  Guru ji would watch the matches and eagerly get them to compete.  Guru ji wanted to make sure everyone was in good health.  The news of this progressive nature of Guru ji: to empower the people’s knowledge and strength, spread far and wide.  Many people heard of this and came to visit Guru ji.  This would happen till evening and then Guru ji would come to the court and sit in Sangat.  Just as Shivji would sit with the Munis and saints, that’s how it would look like when Guru ji would come sit in Sangat with the Sikhs.  Kirtan would be sung in Raags and Simran would happen.  The Sikhs would sit around Guru ji.  The Rababis would sing Gurbani in various Raags.  The Sikhs would listen and in doing so, the vices or their minds would die.  Their jealously, greed, anger and desire would die.  When it would be dark, the Divan would end and Guru Angad Dev ji would go into his room and immerse himself into the light of Akaal Purakh.  He would sit in mediation.  He would sit in Samadhi for 3 hours.  At around 10 pm he would open his eyes and lay down on his bed to go to sleep.  He would make the Sikhs recite Satnam.  He would not let anyone talk about worldly affairs or money.  The talk of worldly affairs, would not be done by the Sikhs, fearing him.  Guru ji would stay in one state: no attachment, no enmity, no friend or foe, no happiness nor sorrow; always in the same state of mind.  He was always in bliss and serenity.  Listening to the history of Guru Nanak Dev ji would make him really happy.

One day, Gorakh Nath, the leader of the Sidhs, had the pleasant thought of visiting the successor of Guru Nanak Dev ji.  The Sidhs wanted to visit the one who was placed onto the throne of the Guruship by Guru Nanak Dev ji.  Gorakh Nath along with the 84 Sidhs came to Khadoor Sahib to visit Guru Angad Dev ji.  They wanted to see how the new Guru’s personality was.  The elder Sidhs would discuss: “Guru Nanak Dev ji was very powerful and was the complete form of Akaal Purakh.  Guru ji achieved victory everywhere he went.  No peer or mir (high status/royal person) could stand his power.  They all bowed to his feet.  Makkah and Medina bowed to him.”  Having these discussions, the Sidhs came to Khadoor Sahib.  They had the power of appearing at places at their will.  Gorakh, Bharthri and Charpat along with Gopi Chand, Esher Nath, Praan Nath, Mangal Nath, all came to test the new Guru.  They wanted to see if Guru Angad Dev ji was the same as Guru Nanak Dev ji.  As soon as they saw Guru ji, their doubts were all gone.  Guru Angad Dev ji was sitting on his throne when Gorakh Nath and the Sidhs appeared.  All the Sidhs came in front of Guru ji and said “Aadesh, Aadesh” (greeting of the Sidhs).  The Guru knew what was in the hearts of the Sidhs.  Guru ji had the Sidhs seated with great respect.  Gorakh Nath and the Sidhs were very happy to see Guru ji.  They began to speak: “Guru ji, in this Kaliyuga Ashtanga Yoga is necessary.  Without Yoga, the soul is not purified.  The Saints of Satyuga till now, all have done yoga in order to achieve the knowledge of the Braham (Supreme).  You are the Avatar in Kaliyuga and seated on the throne of Guru Nanak Dev ji, you should follow the path that other saintly beings have followed.  There is no yoga practised in your teachings.  Without yoga, how else will the Sikhs be saved?  Without yoga, Siddhi as not achieved nor is mukti achieved.  Without yoga, one cannot have the knowledge of the self (Bigyaan).  Gyanis, Saints and great beings of the past, all have practised yoga and reached salvation.”  When Guru Angad Dev ji heard Gorakh Nath, Guru ji spoke: “Nath ji, your way is good but there is no time for yoga in Kaliyuga.  This was good for the previous yugas.  The way of Guru Nanak Dev ji is Bhagti Yog, not the kasht yoga (strict yoga).  Bhagti yog is with love: to still the mind and sing the glories of Akaal Purakh.  You say that kasht yoga gives one Siddhis (powers), the Bhagat yogas have siddhis standing at their door.  To know the self, kasht yoga is not needed, Bhagti yoga will give you everything.  It will give you peace.  Your yoga is dependent on the name of Akaal Purakh as well.  You recite the Name of Akaal Purakh in your yoga practices.  There is no yoga without the Name.  The true Name: Satnam, is what we recite with love and are in love with.  We connect to the Name and become one with it.  That is all that is required for yoga.  You do yoga to control your body and perform even stricter yoga to control your mind; then, your mind is still.  Your students, and you, then connect with the Siddhis (powers) and think there is nothing past these powers.  You then do practices to increase your age and get caught into this trap to stay in your body.  This is nothing but showing off of your powers to have people worship you and grow your following.  This feeds your ego.  You get stuck into the unaatam (the unconscious world) and do not pursue the Brahmaatam (the collective conscious) any longer.  Your conscious does not reach the Parmaatam (Akaal Purakh).  You stay indulged in the yoga and do not reach the bliss of the aatma (soul).  Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji has told us about yoga, I will tell you what he said about the true yoga:

Sri Mukhvaak (holy words of the True Guru) Soohi Mahalla 1, Ghar 7 (Raag Soohi Nanak I, sung in the 7th house)

Akaal Purakh Vahiguru is one, Sat (infinite existence), Chetan (conscious), Anand (bliss), Saroop (form), the one that creates, sustains and destroys, and prevalent in conscious, subconscious and unconscious, is only attained by the grace of the Satguru.

Yoga is not attained by physical practice; nor by donning clothes of yogis, nor by carrying the stick of yogas, nor by rubbing ash on the body.  Yoga is not achieved by wearing earrings or shaving your head.  Yoga is not achieved by playing the singhi (instrument) of yogis.  Only by staying unindulged by the maya of the world, while living in the dark world, can one attain to the true ways of yoga.  Yoga is not achieved by speech.  By seeing the universe as one, high and low, good and bad seen as the same, that is the true yogi.  Yoga is not in the cemetery, sitting in mediation, travelling to holy sites, bathing in holy rivers.  Only by staying unindulged by the maya of the world, while living in the dark world, can one attain to the true ways of yoga.  By meeting the True Guru, the doubts are broken; the wandering mind is then still.  Then, one is able to tolerate the difficult rivers of the world.  The mind is still in the ultimate sound of the Brahm.  Only by staying unindulged by the maya of the world, while living in the dark world, can one attain to the true ways of yoga.  Says Nanak, the person is alive but the ego is dead, this is how yoga is achieved.  The singhi is played without friction by itself, inside your soul and one achieves the state of fearlessness.  Only by staying unindulged by the maya of the world, while living in the world, can one attain to the true ways of yoga.  (SGGS 730)

Listen Nath ji, this is our yoga.  This is how Parmatma is reached and the person comes out of the cycle of birth and death.  This is how saints achieve their goal.  The saints follow Sahij yoga.  Come out of this doubt that your yoga is supreme and the only way to reach salvation.

Sri Mukhvaak Salok Mahalla 2 (holy words of the true Guru, Salok, Nanak II)

The Guru gives wisdom of Brahmgyaan: sing the glories of Akaal Purakh.  The Brahm exists everywhere in the universe from the smallest to the greatest.  How can we give wisdom to the person; whose Guru is Gur Nanak Dev ji.  (SGGS 150)”

The Sidhs were very happy to hear Guru Angad Dev ji.  They said: “Guru Angad Dev ji, you and Guru Nanak Dev ji are the same.  Both are great.  Guru Nanak saw you as the eligible one and made you sit on his throne.  You are the true heir.  The Sikhs will be saved by you.”  The Sidhs bowed to Guru ji and left.  The Sidhs talked amongst themselves: “the Guru is great.  Akaal Purakh came as Guru Nanak and saved many people in Kaliyuga.  Guru Angad Dev ji is the right person who gave us the best answers.”

Guru Angad Dev ji sits amongst his Sikhs and spends time with them.  This is how Guru ji spends his days.  His glories spread far and wide.  The Emperor of Delhi was Humayun, the son of Babar.  Humayun was sick as a child and Babar had prayed to take on his illness and thus Humayun was saved.  There were 2 Pathaan brothers who had a conflict with Humayun.  The Pathaans were first Humayun’s employees but then rebelled.  They were great warriors and great politicians.  One was Sulaym Shah and the other was Sher Shah Soori.  They had become egotistical and decided to gather the Pathaans from Prayaag and took over the fort of Allahabad.  They prepared to fight a battle with Delhi.  When Humayun found out, he mobilized his army to attack Sher Shah.  He thought his army was big and that the Pathaans could easily be won.  He though it would be a quick battle.  He reached Allahabad and the battle started.  The instruments of war sounded and the two brothers came into the battlefield themselves.  They tied their death robes onto their heads and had no plan to leave the battlefield until they won or they died.  It was a fierce battle.  They killed many Mughals and washed their swords with the blood of the Mughals.  The battle was a wide one, spanning many miles.  As the battle raged on, the land of Prayaag became red.  The Emperor’s army retreated.  This was a shock to the Emperor.  The Pathaans were too strong.  The Pathaans kept advancing, the Mughals ran away.  Humayun had to come back to Delhi but Sher Shah reached Delhi.  Humayun left Delhi and ran away to Punjab.  The Pathaans took over Delhi and conquered the throne and sent news around the land: the Pathaans are the rulers now.  The army of the Mughals disassembled.  Humayun asked his advisors: “my father was blessed by Guru Nanak Dev ji for seven generations of rule.  Is there an heir to his throne?  I would like to meet him and tell him that my father was blessed by Guru Nanak for 7 generations of rule.  This is no longer true.  I need to ask the person who is on Guru Nanak’s throne why this happened.  Find out where he lives.”  The vizier then responded: “right now, Guru Angad Dev ji is the heir to the Guruship and on Guru Nanak’s throne.  He is a great being; he knows the deep knowledge.  He is the master of the world.  We need to go to him with our desire.  You have thought of a great thing.  We will need to ask the person from whom this blessing was received.”

Humayun then came to Khadoor Sahib.  He went to where Guru Angad Dev ji was.  Guru ji was wrestling with the kids.  He was above happiness and sorrow.  Humayun came and bowed to Guru ji and stood in front of him.  Guru ji did not look towards Humayun and was paying attention to the kids.  Guru ji knows the hearts of all.  After about 40 minutes, the Emperor was enraged with anger.  He thought to himself: “the Guru has not even looked towards me.  He does not consider that I am the Emperor.  I have been standing for almost 40 minutes and he did not care that I am the Emperor.  So what if my kingdom has been taken away, I am still an emperor.  Looks like the Guru has not respected me because I no longer have the kingdom.  I should kill him.”  Humayun grabbed the hilt of his sword and prepare to kill the Guru with one stroke.  As he tried to pull his sword out, the sword was stuck.  His hand was also stuck to the hilt of the sword.  He tried to separate his hand from his sword with all his might, but was unsuccessful.  His hand was useless.  He thought to himself: “I have done something very wrong.”  He got scared and realized he had done a great sin.  Guru ji then looked towards the Emperor and said: “you could not take your sword out for Sher Shah and fight him.  You came to strike saints instead.  You ran away like a coward from the battlefield and wish to show your courage to me?”  Humayun then fell to the Guru’s feet and said: “please forgive me Guru ji.  I am a fool and a sinner.  Guru Nanak ji was one with Khuddah.  He blessed my father for 7 generations of rule and I have lost the kingdom.  I wanted to know how it only lasted till the second generation.  You are the same light as Guru Nanak Dev ji.  I would like to know what happened.”  Guru Angad Dev ji listened to Humayun’s words and said: “Humayun, you made some wrong decisions, for that reason you were insulted on the battlefield and lost your kingdom.  If you had not tried to pick up your sword on me, you would have been given back your kingdom right away.  You would have been blessed right away.  Right now, go to Kabul and come back after 12 years, then I will give you back your kingdom.  You will be wasting your time trying to get your kingdom back if you stay here.”  Humayun bowed and then went to Kabul.  He then gathered an army of Mughals there and then attacked Delhi after 12 years.  He took the kingdom from Sher Shah Soori’s children and killed all the Khans of Delhi.  The Satguru gave the kingdom back to Humayun in this way.  Humayun ruled for 6 months and then died.  His son Akbar, then became the Emperor for 50 years.  The Satguru is above attachment and hatred.  He completes everyone’s wishes who comes to the Guru with faith and devotion.
